savory food for a possum kin please ?
Okay, since I have two asks -- one for a Possum and one for an Opossum, this one will be the Australian Possum while the other will be the American Opossum!
Australian Possums are mostly herbivorous, mostly eating eucalyptus. But that's poisonous to humans. And sometimes they eat eggs or lizards. I don't think you want to eat lizards, but I'll include some alligator at the end, just in case.
Main Possum Diet:
Egg Recipes
Several Lychee Recipes
So Many Different Apricot Recipes
Eucalyptus Alternatives:
Sorrel Recipes
Four Different Pennywort Recipes
Watercress And Fruit Salad
Watercress Omelet
More Watercress Recipes
Three Spinach Recipes
Alligator:
Smoked Tacos
Fried Bites
Allemond
I hope this helps, friend!! The Opossum Ask will be out next!!

Phil the Brushtailed Possum-Character Sheet and Backstory
This post was made available to Ko‑fi donors before everyone else on Tumblr--please spread the word about The Back of Beyond comic and donate if you'd like access to posts first!
Phil is a brushtailed possum--a golden one--and these are different animals than the American opossum. Nocturnal marsupials that forage in the trees and on roofs of homes, these creatures are considered pests by farmers and city dwellers alike, thriving in any environment from the top end of Australia to the neighboring country of New Zealand.
Possums are noisy, running from roof to roof at night, causing fights and clearly very active--so it made sense to me that Phil (originally Philbert, after Rocko's Modern Life) would be a possum.
Phil's grown facial hair and a mullet ('they're back in style!'), and I've made his eyes a little larger, more blue/gray than before. A footy player in uni, he now plays for the Lions on occasion as a back up ruck-rover, a role he is very proud of. As a joey, he loved playing the Seega Genesis (it's a play on how Sega is pronounced in Aus, lol) and despite his gaming addiction, he went on to excel in uni, earning a PhD in bioengineering. Phil's fascination with dolphins (which are strangely not human level sentient in my stories) led him to research their echolocation and how their bodyminds were affected by mining run-off as well as oil spills in the environment. Selma shares this fascination with Phil in terms of dolphins--this will be explored in later posts! :)
Phil experimented with love interests in uni, and while he is newly single, a past love interest named Seth--a pissed off wombat--is extremely nosy and possessive of him. Phil manages to keep his distance from Seth, but that 'type'--an androgynous, thick and curvy body--is what draws Phil to Selma initially, besides the unique circumstances in which they meet.
I hope you've enjoyed reading about Phil, one of the main characters in my anthro animal comic The Back of Beyond! Next up is Will the wallaby, Selma's best friend...
More posts are to come,

Idk how I’ve lived in Australia all my life and never heard a possum screaming in close quarters
But good god I heard it tonight
I am shaken to my core
I am Pandora if she never opened the box, and instead it snuck up behind her while she took out the rubbish and unleashed every demon all at once

From my hammock in my Aussie backyard:
Its around 11pm and I've been listening to a possum munching away in the neighbours fruit tree, what sounds like half a dozen cars doing burnouts, and a koala in the distance is doing what I can only assume is REPLYING to the sound of the cars by roaring in similar patterns. A koala has done the same thing when my dog was barking at it, they sound like bloody devils.

Oscar: Holy crap, what a mess!
Nora: *picking her way over a twisted door* Yeah, Pyrrha really loses her inhibitions when she gets all wolf-y…🙂↕️
Ren: I just wish she would save her antics for daylight hours. Jaune, do you see anything? 😑
Jaune: *shining a flashlight around shredded butcher shop* Pyrrha…? Pyr, are you there?
????: *burps*
Jaune: *shines his flashlight on torn-open meat locker covered in red wolf hair and pawprints*
Werewolf!Pyrrha: *lying beside a mostly-eaten side of beef in a food coma* 🤤
Jaune: *gathering up his werewolf girlfriend in a bridal carry* Oh, Pyrrha…this one’s gonna be hard to explain to the cops…😓
Werewolf!Pyrrha: …do what you must…I have already won…! 😁

i would love to see australian animal patches
wombat… ringtail possum… bandicoot.. redback spider.. cool birds
I would love that also! Australian wildlife has been on my long-list since forever, so to the top of that list it goes, anonymous antipodean and/or australophile!
I have unpublished Kangaroo and Quokka designs from early days, and an Ibis I've been hoping to place — with adjustments, I think that motif could do right by the unfairly-maligned but delightfully-monikered "Bin Chicken."
Wombat is just a sketch, and my sense at first was that it would work up much too large, but then I looked up "wombat scale" and
I see that this fear was unfounded.
I confess also that, when I searched for a "ringtail possum," I expected someone with a striped tail, like a lemur? instead…
i immediately lost The Game.
I'll definitely have a go at Bandicoot and Redback Spider! Off the top of my head I'll also be looking into a Koala, an Emu, a Kookaburra, a Dingo, an Echidna, a Tasmanian Devil and…
… we'll see who stands out in this first round, but if anyone has species to suggest (especially herps, birds and invertebrates), design critiques to offer, or advice and or resources to share on Indigenous protocol/preferences vis-à-vis representation and naming, I'd be very happy for that input!

Brushtail possum loves climbing trees, so ranger was an obvious choice. He’s also got opposable thumbs, which makes him pretty much the only one capable of wielding a bow.
Side note: I this is my favourite little guy out of this series, I'm very proud of how he turned out.

I have a self insert original character now! Her name is Mint and everyone is in love with them because I said so and no-one can stop me
She wears a lot of hearts because she's best friends with Rouge 🩷 While drawing her I realised I technically could make her any colour I wanted, considering Sonic's a Blue hedgehog and Knuckles is bright Red, but idk I like replicating the natural colours you can see in animal fur so you get common ringtail possum markings 😀
#there is a quokka and an echidna in Sonic canon and I was like- well what Australian animals can I make my s/i and I asked my brother#I was considering a dingo but he said I was a possum and I was like 😦 holy shit you're a genius#mint the possum#sonic#sonic oc#sonic fan character#sonic original character#sonic self insert#sonic the hedgehog#my art#oc#original character#self insert
