73. how do you visualize scenes? do you see it like a movie in your head, or do the words just flow?

Hmmmm... I suppose a bit of both. Sometimes a scene will come to me, and I'll visualize it intensely, other times, I don't have a whole scene planned, or I only have a single image, and as I'm writing, the characters just decide what they're going to do. That said, during revisions of certain scenes (especially in TiWWaN), I have a tendency to think about things in that visual, film-like way and decide on staging and movement patterns as I might direct a theatrical production. The most notable examples I can think of are the argument in Medic's office in chapter 47 and the Asbach scenes. The fight scenes are also thoroughly choreographed.

I thought about this one for a good, long time, and if I could deliver my younger self a piece of writing advice, it would be: study planning methods. Even if you hate it. Even if you never really use it. Study planning methods so you can get a grasp on plot and boundaries.
