actually thinking people should die because a politician said they're not worth helping is a vile, evil, disgusting attitude and i want no part of people who think like this.
To see someone suffering and your heart not to break for them and to have no empathy-- this is actually the hard heartedness is ruining this country.
#Certain conservatives#Certain liberals#But sadly more conservative that I see#So called Christians#Maybe you people should cut off actual unnecessary thigs#Aid to help people live isn't wasted#You cant put a price on human lives#No matter what country they're from#I'm so disgusted w all of them#They are the ones who will cause ww3#And who will cause untold suffering#And will bow down before the great golden idol just bc he promises maga#Lack of empathy IS a problem#It's a disease#Devaluing it#Devaluing reason and only following#Only screaming hate and conspiracy theories#Instead of caring for real people#Who need love

The more I think about it, the more I question Arcane S2's politics and themes, which were so foundational to S1. Like, a tiny example [SPOILERS AHEAD]:
Singed wins. He gets exactly what he wants in the end. All his "efforts" are rewarded. What does that say about people who share his ideology of eugenics? He is the source of nearly every horrible thing and conflict that happened (Shimmer, the factory deaths, Jinx, Vander as Warwick, the corruption of Viktor), and he gets a happier ending than any other character. Not even a 'he got what he wanted but he has become completely unrecognizable/monstrous to his daughter' tag at the end. You can say they're setting him up and need to open his daughter to future shows, but the way you end a character's story says something about what you think about that character. What does it say when the eugenicist war criminal gets the happy ending he doesn't deserve?
#personal#delete later#and you can say “it's not that deep it's just what makes sense to end his character” but lets not kid ourselves#this past month people have been chattering about microexpressions in animation or metaphors and symbolism in interactions#and random props and set details. the end of a character's arc MEANS something thematically.#and it just feels offputting that the most unforgivable character wins while everyone else is dead or suffers alone#and don't give me that “sometimes the bad guy wins” look this is an extreme lol.#i would be fine with this outcome for singed if literally EVERY other character wasn't suffering. only singed got what he wanted#honestly fans who have been completely unwilling to consider negative analysis and criticisms of arcane annoy me so much#y'all chirp about how amazing it is that arcane is so political until the politics get weird. then it's a completely apolitical show#specifically the final “dirt under you fingernails” line. that felt so weird and offputting coming from vi#a part of this is definitely just reactionary anger at a fictional character. like. you caused untold amounts of suffering and agony#all for your daughter. fuck you you don't get your daughter

Just rambling / putting my thoughts down...
I think what’s truly tragic is that KDJ might have, given enough time and love, learned to love himself. Towards the end of the novel, it was clear he was starting to accept that he’s loved, but he has not yet accepted that he’s worthy of love.
But. You can see him slowly coming around to the idea that perhaps, just perhaps, he does deserve a happy ending. You can see it in his tiny, fragile dream of living together with all his loved ones in a big house. A person with such great ambitions in tearing the Gods themselves down from their throne, and that’s literally all he wants out of life, that’s his happy ending... (Great, now I’m SUPER sad.)
But whatever amount of self-acceptance he had scraped together was completely destroyed when he found out that he was the cause of all his companions’ pain and suffering, that he caused YJH’s suffering, that he was nothing more than a hypocritical sinner.
It triggered his freefall back into self-loathing. That last act of self-sacrifice was less sacrifice, imo, and more a desperate act of atonement. He no longer dreams of his happy ending, because he thinks he doesn’t deserve it.
#orv#spoilers#I often think about that quote from Fruits Basket when I think about KDJ#'The first time I loved myself was when you loved me'#might be paraphrasing a bit but that was the gist#how does someone who has never loved themselves pull themselves out of self-loathing?#I imagine it's immeasurably difficult#the only reason KDJ started to was truly because of his companions' love for him#through their love he starts realizing that he is worthy of love#and that's just one step away from accepting he deserves love#but how does he continue accepting their love when he finds out he caused them untold suffering#his love caused their suffering#how does he forgive himself for that#he can't#that's why he freefalls again#and that's just#horribly tragic

[text description: #is there a way we could spare the teenager and let the rest of them suffer? /end description]
I hope they find the idiot rich ppl I hope a teenager doesn't have to die a horrible nightmare death and then I also hope they immediately get slapped with a $500,000 bill to repay the taxpayer cost of rescuing them from their idiocracy and then also another $1billion dollars inconvenience fee of making us all hear about this for 3 days straight.
#i understand it okay i do#each of them has caused untold suffering to countlesspeople#but as always: i don't want them dead. i want them to stop. i want them to fix it.#oceangate#the point about the erosion of empathy is REALLY important#the reason i don't wish suffering on ppl is bc once you decide its acceptable it becomes a slippery slope on WHO should suffer/die#and also I'm not the arbitrator of death even if it was consequential#mindset#morals#id added#text description

the thing about padme’s deleted “mother of the rebellion” rots scenes is this is a once-14yo girl who said “i was not elected to watch my people suffer and die while you discuss this invasion in a committee” now a 27yo woman who grew into one of those helpless senators, spending her final days trying to stop a war via committee before watching her husband cause untold suffering and death. like id lose the will to live too damn
#i don’t talk about padme’s politics a lot considering i am user padmestrilogy#idk im muddy on her pacifist/defeatist/demsoc ways#i think it’s more useful to talk about how tightly controlled her life is when looking at her political choices then try and#form a coherant padme political theory book#similar to how anakin has the wierd politics he does bc he of his surrogate father figure in palps#not bc he woke up one day thinking ‘fascism rox’. yk?….#(considering how muddy lucas’ own ideology was i think this is the sane approach )#padme amidala#star wars

Your Best Man | J.Ww
Pairing: Wonwoo x reader
Genre: fluff, humor, established relationship
Summary: Wonwoo has tried his best to become the best man you've ever met. At the end, he is the best man.
Author note: let's have a break from angsty suffering story and have some fluffywonu!
Wonwoo loves you. He loves you with all of his heart. Honestly, he loves you with all of his life. In conclusion he loves you very much. Wonwoo sat there, an empty soju glass in hand, his words flowing like the river of affection he held for you. Mingyu, realizing his friend had reached the brink of tipsiness, halted the soju parade, albeit reluctantly, knowing Wonwoo was just getting started.
"Mingyu, remember when I fell head over heels for her at first sight?" Wonwoo's tone was earnest, albeit slightly slurred, as he delved into his favorite topic, you.
Mingyu nodded, taking a break from his spicy budae jiggae to indulge Wonwoo's sentimental journey.
"She was stunning," Wonwoo continued, his gaze drifting upwards as if searching for you among the stars. "I mean, she's always been gorgeous, but back then? Wow. Even Cupid would've been jealous of my aim that day."
He chuckled, the warmth of nostalgia enveloping him as he recalled the moment fate intervened, intertwining your destinies.
"In hindsight, it's like the universe had a checklist and decided, 'Yep, these two are meant to be.' And who am I to argue with the universe, right?"
Wonwoo's laughter filled the air, a testament to the joy you brought him, even in the haze of alcohol and spicy food.
So there they sat, one lost in love and the other in a spicy stew, united in their admiration for the wonder that was you. And as Wonwoo raised his glass in a tipsy salute to your magnificence, Mingyu couldn't help but toast silently to the cosmic comedy that brought you all together. Cheers to love, laughter, and the occasional soju-fueled confession.
Years ago, Wonwoo became acquainted with you through a movie he watched with Vernon. You were a rising rookie actor at the time. Fate, however, had a more direct introduction in store for him. It happened one evening by the Han River, where Wonwoo sought solace in the night air and a bowl of ramyeon, alone with his thoughts.
The tranquility was shattered by the intrusive click of a camera shutter, followed by a beam of flashlight. Initially annoyed by the presence of paparazzi, Wonwoo's irritation quickly turned to anger as he contemplated the invasion of privacy suffered by countless others in the industry.
His resolve to confront the paparazzi was cut short by a sudden thud and a groan. Rushing to the source of the commotion, Wonwoo discovered the paparazzi lying on the ground while another figure stood nearby, inspecting the camera.
"I know this is your job, but this is not right," Other person admonished, voice firm with conviction. "You've invaded someone's privacy and caused them untold discomfort. Can you even sleep at night knowing what you do?"
As the other person, you, retrieved the memory card, your eyes met Wonwoo's. In that moment of shared understanding, Wonwoo offered a thumbs-up in appreciation of your intervention, sparking a conversation between the two of you.
You explained that you recognized the paparazzi, having caught them fabricating rumors within the industry. Wonwoo nodded in solidarity, acknowledging his own frustration with such unethical practices.
"I was about to take action myself," Wonwoo admitted, shaking his head. "I'm relieved to know I'm not the only one who feels this way."
And so, amidst the backdrop of the Han River, a bond formed between two strangers united by their disdain for injustice and their shared desire to protect the integrity of others. It was a chance encounter that would leave a lasting impression on both Wonwoo and you, shaping the course of their future interactions.
A conversation led to another, as late-night discussions evolved into playful banter and eventually escalated into vulnerable talks. What began as strangers connecting gradually blossomed into friendship, and then something more profound – love. Wonwoo cherished every step of the journey with you, never once regretting the decision to let you into his life. With you by his side, life seemed brighter, the shadows dissipating whenever you were together, and he couldn't shake the feeling that you were the one sent by a higher power to fill the void within him.
"Do you want to spend the rest of your life with me?" Wonwoo's question hung in the air, heavy with anticipation and hope. When you said yes, he made a silent vow to himself to be the best man you'd ever known. He listened to your concerns, ensured you never felt pressured, and held you in the highest regard, becoming your staunchest supporter whenever your movies or dramas premiered.
Of course, it wasn't all smooth sailing. Like any couple, Wonwoo and you faced their fair share of ups and downs. But each challenge served as a lesson, strengthening their bond and shaping them into better individuals for each other. If Wonwoo were to recount their biggest argument, it would likely be the time he recommended you to a director he knew.
Wonwoo happened to know a veteran noir movie director, a figure you admired deeply for his work. During a discussion between Wonwoo and the director at a premiere event, your name came up, sparking a conversation that would ultimately change the course of events.
"Your girlfriend is Ji Y/n, right? Her acting was exceptional in the last movie," the director remarked, his interest piqued.
"She's a huge fan of yours," Wonwoo replied. "I know it might be unconventional, but I was hoping you could consider casting her in your next project. It would mean a lot to her."
To Wonwoo's surprise, the director revealed that he was indeed seeking an actress for his upcoming movie and would be delighted if you were interested in joining the cast.
Initially, the news seemed like a dream come true. However, Wonwoo's excitement turned to concern when he received a series of missed calls from you while he was away on a business trip. Upon calling you back, he was met with the sound of your sobbing, instantly stirring worry within him.
"What's wrong?" he asked, his voice laced with concern.
"I never asked for your help with my career," you replied, your tone heavy with frustration.
Wonwoo's brow furrowed as you mentioned the director's name, realizing he had unwittingly stepped into a sensitive issue.
"I never asked you to secure a role for me in his movie, so why does everyone think I got it through a connection?" you inquired him, your voice trembling with emotion.
Wonwoo sighed, acknowledging his mistake. "I was talking to him that night, and he mentioned you—"
"He talked behind my back saying you begged him to put me into the cast."
"I never asked for that!" you continued, your frustration evident.
"I know," Wonwoo conceded, regret weighing heavy on his shoulders. "He didn't say what you think he did."
Feeling hurt and misunderstood, you ended the call abruptly, leaving Wonwoo with a sinking feeling in his chest. Acting swiftly, he instructed his manager to drive him to your place, determined to resolve the misunderstanding before it escalated further.
Wonwoo entered your apartment well past midnight, his fatigue from a long day's schedule overshadowed by the weight of guilt gnawing at him. Upon seeing you seated on the couch, head bowed in distress, he felt a pang of remorse pierce through him.
"What did he say to you?" Wonwoo inquired gently, his voice laden with concern as he approached you.
"It doesn't matter what he said," you replied, your tone laced with frustration. "What matters is that you overstepped by asking him to cast me in his movie! I want to build my career on my own terms, and I want people to recognize that."
Wonwoo knelt in front of you, seeking to meet your gaze. "I'm sorry," he murmured, his remorse evident. "I just thought—since you admire his work—it would be a good opportunity. I didn't anticipate this outcome."
A heavy silence hung between you before you confessed the truth. "I walked away from the role midway through filming. I couldn't bear to work with someone who talk trash their talent like that."
Wonwoo nodded understandingly, pulling you into a comforting embrace. "I understand," he whispered, his voice a soothing balm to your troubled thoughts. "You did what felt right for you."
As you feared, rumors began to circulate in the weeks following the announcement of your departure from the movie. Speculations about your connections within the industry surfaced, casting a shadow over your hard-earned reputation. Yet through it all, Wonwoo stood by your side, offering unwavering support and reassurance.
He knew the truth, and that was enough for him. Together, you weathered the storm of gossip, emerging stronger and more united than ever before. For Wonwoo, there was no greater reward than seeing you stand firm in your convictions, unyielding in the face of adversity. And as long as you had each other, no amount of speculation could tarnish the bond you shared.
Years later, you and Wonwoo went public with your marriage, and he was grateful for the overwhelmingly positive feedback you both received. The wedding was an intimate affair, attended only by close family and colleagues. For Wonwoo, it marked the culmination of his journey to become the best man you'd ever known, now leveled up to become the best husband himself.
He found joy in the simple moments of life, relishing in the comfort of sleeping and waking up beside you each day. To the surprise of his fellow members, who often referred to him as the prince by his fans, Wonwoo had embraced domesticity wholeheartedly. Learning to cook, clean, give massages, and take on any task that arose became second nature to him, especially during your pregnancy with your firstborn, Jeon Jihan.
Now, at five years old, Jihan possessed a strong will of his own, often refusing to hold hands with Wonwoo when being taken to daycare. Wonwoo couldn't help but wonder whose attitude Jihan had inherited—though deep down, he knew it was undoubtedly from you. Nevertheless, it didn't dampen Wonwoo's love for you and his son. He cherished every moment spent with his family, grateful for the love and happiness they brought into his life.
One day, while Wonwoo was away on tour and Jihan was just two years old, he heard from his fellow members that the women—referred to as "their girls"—had gathered at Seungcheol's wife's place. Concerned for your well-being, Wonwoo immediately called you to check in.
"Are you joining them?" he asked, his worry palpable over the phone line.
"Will you bring Jihan?" he added, mindful of your responsibilities as a parent.
"Of course, he can't take care of himself," came your sarcastic reply.
Wonwoo chuckled at your dry humor. "But didn't you say our car broke down yesterday?"
"I'll find a solution, don't worry about it, darling!" you reassured him.
However, after the concert, Wonwoo discovered from Seungcheol himself that you had ridden his bike to their place—with Jihan in tow. Not a word of this had come from you. Frustration and disbelief churned in Wonwoo's chest as he made a call to you.
"How could you ride a bike with our child being that young?" he demanded, his tone edged with concern.
"Jihan loves it!" you countered, sending a photo taken by another woman at a traffic light, showing Jihan smiling while securely attached to your front.
Wonwoo facepalmed with his hand, unable to believe what he was hearing. "You could have endangered both of you and Jihan. You're not allowed to ride my bike again!"
It wasn't that Wonwoo doubted your skill—you had been riding bikes for years, a shared passion that had drawn you both together. However, the idea of riding a bike with your child had never crossed his mind, nor did he ever imagine you would consider it. The incident led to his members labeling him as a "gangster husband," a nickname stemming from your unconventional lifestyle and characters in the movies.
"So what's the matter now, hyung? You said you're okay, you love her, you'll support her no matter what. Then what's with the change of heart?" Mingyu confronted drunken Wonwoo.
Wonwoo clumsily put down his glass, "You're not married, Mingyu. You won't understand my pain!" he declared, slurring his words as Mingyu rolled his eyes in amusement.
Without missing a beat, Mingyu dialed your number. "Hello, Y/n! Did you miss your husband already? He's being a pain in my ass tonight. Should I take him home?"
Wonwoo's eyes widened in panic as he realized what Mingyu was up to, but his drunken attempts to grab Mingyu's phone proved futile.
"Just the usual babbling about his undying love for you and some other nonsense. I'll be there in 20, okay? Bye!" Mingyu announced cheerfully before hanging up.
"No! I don't wanna go home! I don't wanna face her like this," Wonwoo protested dramatically, his words slurred as he tried to resist Mingyu's attempts to escort him home.
Mingyu sighed, shaking his head in exasperation. "This hyung..." he muttered, resigning himself to the task of dragging a stubborn and intoxicated Wonwoo back to the safety of your arms.
*
"Where's Jihan?" Wonwoo groaned, nursing his pounding head while seated at the dining table, his breakfast being served by you. The mere act of opening his eyes felt like a Herculean task.
You shrugged casually, "Someone woke him up last night, and he ended up staying up late. He's still asleep."
Wonwoo's brows furrowed, knowing full well that the culprit was none other than himself. Yet, he was surprised by your nonchalant reaction to Jihan's extended slumber. "He's not going to daycare today?"
You shook your head, taking a seat across from him. "I'm free today, except for my ballet class at 4. Your mom wants to see Jihan, so I'll be taking him to your parents' place before then."
The mention of your ballet class jogged Wonwoo's memory of his conversation with Mingyu the night before. "You're still taking ballet classes?"
You set down your utensils and fixed him with a steady gaze. "Yes," you confirmed firmly. "And Mingyu filled me in on your little chat last night."
Wonwoo grumbled, "I'll punch him later," before offering a weak smile in your direction.
"I've decided to take the role no matter what, darling. It'll be my first-ever romcom movie," you declared, determination shining in your eyes.
Wonwoo sighed deeply, his headache worsening at the thought. "That's the problem, babe. I'm just not ready for that!" he confessed, his tone tinged with a hint of panic.
"What are you not ready for?" you queried, raising an eyebrow as Wonwoo stretched his hands and gestured vaguely.
"All the lovey-dovey stuff you'll have to do in the movie! Kissing, hugging, and acting all smiley with other men—I'm just not prepared for that!" Wonwoo exclaimed, his expression a mix of concern and discomfort.
You scoffed, "I thought we were done talking about this. I asked for your opinion, remember? If you don't want me to take the role, I won't. But you said your opinion doesn't matter as long as I'm happy, and I'm more than happy to challenge myself with this role."
Wonwoo nodded solemnly. "I know, but that was before I found out about the intimate scenes like kissing and hugging!"
You nodded understandingly. "You're right. And besides, you're the only man who can kiss and hug me like that."
Wonwoo sighed, relenting slightly. "Just kiss me three more times every day, and I'll pretend like nothing happened," he bargained, a hint of resignation in his voice. After all, he is your best man, right?

The thing that confuses me about the "don't vote" left (not the "I don't want to vote", I'm talking explicitly the "don't vote" left. I don't agree with the "I don't want to vote" left either but I can understand their logic) is they lose me at the final step of the logic. I've tried to connect the logic here, even if I don't agree with a political position I do try to understand where people are coming from (empathy for someones situation is not the same as cosigning it), but I just can't connect the dots here in a way that isn't deeply cruel. Does United States politics prioritize the lives of those in the US (and often white) over those in the Global South? Yes, it's a fucking atrocity. We should continue to make noise about it, cus Biden has used less drones and that shows progress, even if it's not enough. The part where I lose the plot is where the conclusion to this injustice is to let even more people die? Cus that's kinda how I see the idea of not voting: I can pick between shit and more shit, and at the end of the day, I'm picking whoever allows the most people to make it to the next day. Given Trumps stance on everything but specifically climate change, I feel like Biden is pretty significant harm reduction.
I don't think both things can't be true: that every life lost is a travesty we should not forget AND the more people we can save is worth fighting for.
The thing is, I have seen nothing among the "don't vote" far left (and I am talking here specifically about the people who both loudly announce their intention not to vote and try to convince others to do the same) to convince me that they actually care about harm reduction or stopping genocide. They only care about what makes them look the most Correct and/or superior to the Democrats. They yelled bloody murder about Obama using drones, they went dead quiet about Trump using them even more (even when he nearly started WWIII by assassinating the Iranian general Soleimani with one), and then said nothing at all when Biden reduced the drone program to almost nothing and withdrew the US from a failed war in Afghanistan it had long ago lost. Now they will yell all day about Israel/Hamas (something that Biden did not start and has had no direct military role in responding to) but they don't care about Russian genocide of Ukraine and Syria, Chinese threats to invade Taiwan, etc, because those governments are "anti-western/anti-American" and therefore should be defended. Their opposition to human suffering is extremely conditional and rests on whether they can look good out of it, and they never interrogate the hypocrisies of their own ideology.
Likewise: every country in the world prizes its own citizens above those of other countries. It's just a basic fact. Yes, the US has a grim history of intervening in other countries and causing untold civilian damage (especially during the Cold War and then in post-9/11 War on Terrorism). Yes, that legacy is complex and needs to be acknowledged. But literally none of that will be fixed, not to mention all the vulnerable people in America itself who will be punished, by Trump getting into power again. Biden is not just a grudging "lesser evil," but has done a lot of truly good and helpful things, regardless of the Online Leftists' constant lies, misinformation, and misrepresentation. If you spend all your time announcing what a champion you are for non-American marginalised people and/or those undergoing terrible suffering, and then deliberately and knowingly adhere to a course of action that will increase that suffering tenfold not only for those people but your own neighbors, friends, and family, then no, I don't believe you are a brave champion of social justice. You just want to know what categories of people you can gleefully and righteously punish and make to suffer for not believing the same things as you, that makes you just as dangerous as the right-wing fascists, and I can and will call out your ass accordingly.

whats your perspective on anarcho-primitivism?
I dislike it.
When I think of a better society, I don't think to return to hunter-gatherer tribes or breaking our backs working in pseudo-medieval village communes. I think of education, medicine, housing, food, being available to everyone and without anyone hoarding them. This can be accomplished by the right implementation of politics and technology, which does imply a state and industrial civilization. Anarcho-primitivism is reactionary, it's just a 'leftist' version of "everyone should go to church" fantasizing of the Middle Ages. Luckily, it's only the domain of some boring writers and some 'humanity is a cancer' people on Twitter (lol) but I think it's worth discussing because it reveals some biases.
Industry is not inherently bad. People can have decent, comfortable lifestyles if industry, instead of being guided towards profit, is guided towards the welfare of people: avoiding waste, planned obsolescence, consumerism, enviromental destruction. To accomplish this, you must have something (a state) that controls what is done and how (the means of production). To make the state works for the welfare of the people and the planet, it needs to be built on those principles. I'm sure you can figure out where I'm going with this.
Every human activity has an enviromental impact, from mining to agriculture. I simply do not believe this is inmoral, like many anprims seem to believe. I think it is harmful and yes, possibly inmoral that our current rates of consumption are damaging the global ecosystem, but I do not think farming or mining or using electronics is inmoral, when all those things can be done in ways that reduce impact as much as possible and allow people to have comfortable lives. And, this is key, industrial civilization and a state that provides for the common benefit of the people is what allows people to live good lives, to not worry about spending all their time doing farming and leaving other pursuits to a very privileged class, and importantly, not to die from disease or suffer by the abuses of a feudal class that would develop in such a situation.
Because let's face this: if anarcho-primitivism is implement, billions would die. You cannot feed the current human population without industrial farming (and I'm not even talking about GMOs or agrochemicals here, I'm saying stuff like tractors), and a transition to subsistence farmer civilization will only cause untold suffering and death. I do not even need to tell you that people who depend in modern medicine would die without the very complex industries that produce current medications and treatment. And if we go all the way to the extreme and abolish agriculture itself, not only humanity would be reduced to hunter-gatherer bands, but the enviromental devastation would be untold. An anprim society would be a decline on human quality of life like we've seen in the worst episodes of human history. All this for what? A moralistic, pure version of the past that not even far-righters have dreamed of? A medieval village but with D&D night instead of church? Thank you, I'll pass.
Also, and this is personal: I love space exploration, and I think humanity's future is among the stars. Any ideology that does not allow for that is worthless to me. Yuri Gagarin didn't touch the skies for people to tell me that it's proper leftism to stay down here in feudal farms forever.

I made a lot of comparisons between Solas and Emet-Selch back in Shadowbringers, and to be sure there's a lot to compare there, particularly in terms of their goals and desires for the future of the world. But having finished main Endwalker (I'm at the beginning of 6.3), I realize now that in terms of the past, Emet-Selch isn't the Solas figure.
Venat is.
Venat is the one who broke the world--sundered it, even, a word both franchises are fond of--because, as Solas puts it in Trespasser, "every alternative was worse." The Evanuris would have destroyed the world and sacrificed untold lives to maintain their power. The survivors of the Final Days would have continued sacrificing untold lives to Zodiark in hopes of restoring their "paradise." Solas and Venat both know there is no choice they can make that calls for no sacrifice. They both simply choose to make a different one. And they both live for ages hence with the weight of what they've done, the suffering they have caused, because they believed the alternative was worse.
Emet-Selch in Shadowbringers is a version of Solas who never comes to see the people of the future as people, as lives just as worthy of saving as those of ancient times. (And even he kind of does in the end, it just takes, you know. dying. for him to acknowledge it.) But Venat, past and future, is more analogous to a version of Solas that a lot of fans (myself included) believe it's possible for him to become: one who believes in the future and in its people enough to let the past go.
And I love them all.

She.
Is.
Still.
GOING.
30, 000 people still imprisoned over Marijuana related crimes. More who have had their lives permanently altered or ruined by getting locked up over it. There's an untold amount of suffering that's been caused by one of the most ridiculoudly harmless drugs you can get. But with that said--
Quite your fucking diaper shitting Lorch, nobody's fucking fooled by this temper tantrum. You can make as many poor attempts at a motte-and-bailey logical fallacy you wish. People can just still read the mask-off, unhinged screed about substance abuse. You're spending way to much time around MAGAs, you forgot their repugnant, cruel rehoric wasn't universally accepted, didn't you?
I don't even like weed that much, lol.

cw: hurt, comfort, short drabble
pairing: Cyrus/Reader
It was rare that Cyrus felt so desperate.
A sickening feeling to consume his heart as he went through his days.
He would never allow himself room to doubt his plans. Everyone underneath him unquestionably followed his lead with little faltering. (Those who did were promptly removed.) His commanders fully supported his ambitions, praising his genius and competency. It all felt hollow.
He was fully aware they did not perceive him as he was. The mask he placed on to direct to Team Galactic was nothing near the true self that lurked just under the surface. They would all be horrified if they truly understood what he wanted. How much he was tormented by the very existence of spirit — Of the ever present emotional turmoil that would swirl inside him until the end of time. No, until he finally succeeded in his ambitions. The spiritless world he would create was a desperate calling for the horrible world of strife around him. Everyone was just so blissfully unaware of the constant conflict that unconsciously was stirred by the useless spirit in their beings.
He needed to correct it. A firm hand to create a logical, perfect world. No one else saw what he did; no one could perceive the reality around them as he would.
Yet, in the madness of those already worshipping him a deity and the sole focus on his goals, he forgot about the one person who reminded him of one pitiful fact.
Cyrus, one who desired to reshape this world and ascend further on to the role of a deity, was nothing more than a man.
A man with many issues that caused him to fall into such dark mentalities. A certain kind of abuse and suffering that leaves no physical marks but untold blistering on the mind. A corruption of an otherwise bright spirit with ambitions that could truly be better and bring this world to a happier point.
He was not the type to beg.
Not the type to fall to his knees and desperately call out for another.
To pay heed to his heart — to let it dictate him and constrict him.
That damned Lake Guardian would mock him if it saw him. It must have been behind this. Making this weakness bloom from him.
But, he simply could not lose you. Not like this. Not when you looked at him in such horror and disappointment. You admonished his plans — saying you could not believe that he had gone so far off the deep end. About how you had failed to notice, and this was partially your fault, but this was beyond saving. You could not bear to witness the failure of this all — and it would fail — and that you needed to leave. His heart felt as if you had buried a blade deep within. It likely would have been a less painful experience.
“Please…” his voice sounded so far from his usual quiet mumble or deep rumble to rally those under him, “Stay.”
Your hand, which grasped the doorknob, hesitated. Standing perfectly still, Cyrus realised that only now did he have a chance.
“… You have all the right to be upset with me,” he continued. Your head turned back to glance at him, shocked by the sight of him. “Beloved, I was a fool to hide such things from you.” He was in no mental place to dismiss his own plans, but he would relent that you were perfectly correct in being hurt by him hiding things. For so many days, he was away at the office with no return. You could have taken it as something far worse. This was on him. Shame ate at him further. You could not hate him. He truly felt that he would be unable to remain tethered to this world in any form if you did.
Blue eyes gazed into your very being as the normally stoic man was clearly on the edge of breakdown. Your hand left the doorknob. Leaving him alone like this was a cruelty that he had been left to so many times before. It found his cheek as he gazed up at you. How much pain had he faced? You wished that it could all be erased and that he could shine as bright as the sun.
“… In this world, there is nothing I need more than you,” the words left him with little thought, “I can't lose you.”
It was simply the truth, too. In the end, despite being surrounded by endless worship and praise, all of it runs hollow in comparison to your love — your adoration; your affectionate touches.
You swallowed.
Could you tell such a desperate man no?

UPDATE:
A couple of people don’t agree that the MCU’s Tony Stark isn’t a villain. Here’s my explanation…
* Tony Stark was an arms dealer
* Tony Stark’s revealed his identity as Iron Man because of his enormous ego
* Tony Stark didn’t lead the Avengers, he lied to them and manipulated them
* Tony Stark created Ultron despite the objections of other Avengers which led to the destruction of Sokovia and the death of thousands (for this alone he should have been put in jail for life).
* which led to the Sokovia Accord
* which led to the Avengers Civil War
* where he took an under age boy to a foreign country to engage in a super powered battle (lying to the boy’s guardian to accomplish it)
* In his blind fury, Tony Stark attempted to murder Bucky Barnes
* When Tony Stark got the Gauntlet, he could have “undone” the first snap, but because he didn’t want to erase his daughter, he simply brought everyone back - which cause untold suffering for billions on Earth and trillions around the universe. So his death wasn’t selfless… it was selfish.
* Tony Stark then bequeathed his “sunglasses” to an under age boy but didn’t include instructions - the sunglasses controlled weapons of mass destructions; when the boy first wore the sunglasses he very nearly killed a bus load of children, then the boy gave the glasses to a villain who caused more death and destructions (I’d say this was criminally irresponsible.)

Feeling emotional about Eramis again. Feeling emotional specifically about how she's arguably one of the best D2 antagonists we've gotten in terms of being morally grey- even Savathun, for how well-written she is, can fall a little flat sometimes simply bc we know we can never trust her due to her track record of being self-serving, even if our desires can align with hers and she's still very complex. But Eramis is one of the few antagonists we've gotten who have never really been against US specifically- her hatred for the Traveler and the path it took her into the Darkness were all the results of systematic faliures from those outside her control. She WAS right to be hateful to the Traveler- it leaving Riis WAS what caused the Whirlwind, and the total loss of her homeworld. And yes, she DID choose to seize the Darkness to try to eliminate it, but the thing was that she had no idea just what she was getting into at the time. The Witness manipulates and abuses the weak and vulnerable- she thought she'd finally gotten her hands on a means of keeping the Eliksni safe from the Guardians (which she's right about btw!!) and leveling the playing field so she could fight on par with literal godslayers, but she was tricked. It's extremely clear from Plunder onwards that she never desired what the Witness did, but she didn't have a choice bc she was reduced to being just as helpless as she was the day that she fled Riis
But for all her pain, and how much she believes it defines her, it still didn't fully destroy her! She hates what we represent, but she still begs for us to choose what she believes is the path of least suffering. She still asks for us to give her friends the dignity of last deaths, and she grieved with Osiris when he offered her the chance. In Plunder, she warned Eido that if she tampered with her mission that she would kill her, but she still put her own life in danger for the daughter of her enemy- defying the Witness in the process, btw- to save her. And then, in Defiance, she put herself in danger AGAIN by not only betraying the Witness's plans to trap + kill us, but by physically flying into enemy territory to save Misraaks- who nearly killed her just a few months before. She hates what he stands for, but she'll still risk her own life to save him because she always, ALWAYS put the lives of her people over her own- and she knew as soon as the Witness began to turn Salvation into Wrathborn and Scorn that she had lead them into a trap. She's proud, but not so proud as to not recognize when she's done wrong...inwardly, at least
Eramis's heart is fundamentally good and it kills me that she's either ignored or hated by the D2 fanbase (hated more by the widespread audience, really) bc she's outwardly hypocritical and bc of her role in Rasputin's sacrifice (which she didn't even have a choice in, either- she was outright being watched by the Witness). All of her poor decisions are the result of untold centuries of trauma, suffering, animalistic desperation, and then finally being broken down by loss after loss after loss. Nothing she did is something that couldn't have been avoided if she just had the support system to keep her from being driven to the brink, and nothing that she did is not any more terribly monsterous than what we ourselves have done
I sincerely hope that Athrys is somewhere out there for her, and that she and Eido will be that support system for her post-FS. I want to work alongside of her and earn her respect and help her heal so bad, even if she never really comes around to us. It would feel counterproductive to Destiny's theme about grief and healing and learning to move past the unforgivable if we couldn't- because it's not like we didn't do the exact same thing that she did when pressed into the same circumstances (accepting the powers of the Witness to slaughter Salvation en-masse when threatened by them). We just had enough people supporting us to let us know when the devil was whispering in our ear, which is support that she very much did not have when she followed it to Europa
#destiny 2#eramis#also like. we owe her sooo much glimmer after what she faced in the Prison of Elders#that + the fact that salvation honoured our surrender in the last seraph mission rlly drives home#the fact that we were the assholes in both of those situations. like damn eramis had more honour than humanity did#and dont even get me STARTED on the narrative comparisons between her opening the glassway and clovis's motives#they are LIGHTYEARS apart in selfishness

Character Aesthetic Deep Dive Tag!
I created this tag in this post, and I want to do it again for another Scrapyard Boys OC of mine so here we go!
Rules: Make a moodboard with your character's aesthetic, a playlist that fits their vibe, "badly summarize them" (like, talk about their personality, but funnily), etc. It absolutely does not need to be super detailed!!!!!
✦ Character Aesthetic: Maxwell Cymbelline, WIP -Scrapyard Boys
♡ Moodboard ♡
♡ Playlist ♡
Not All Heroes Wear Capes - Owl City
He doesn't fight crime Or wear a cape He doesn't read minds Or levitate But every time my world needs saving He's my Superman Some folks don't believe in heroes 'Cause they haven't met my dad He loves his workshop And rock 'n roll He's got a hot rod And a heart of gold And you could say he's a man of few words But he talks a lot within And even though I'm a little taller I still look up to him
Could Have Been Me - The Struts
Don't wanna live as an untold story Rather go out in a blaze of glory I can't hear you, I don't fear you I'll live now 'cause the bad die last Dodging bullets with your broken past Well, I can't hear you, I don't fear you now Wrapped in your regret What a waste of blood and sweat Oh oh-oh I wanna taste love and pain Wanna feel pride and shame I don't wanna take my time Don't wanna waste one line I wanna live better days Never look back and say It could have been me It could have been me, yeah
Burn The House Down - AJR
Used to keep it cool Used to be a fool All about the bounce in my step Watch it on the news Whatcha gonna do? I could hit refresh and forget Used to keep it cool Should I keep it light? Stay out of the fight? No one's gonna listen to me If I write a song Preaching what is wrong Will they let me sing on TV? Should I keep it light? Is that right? Way up way up we go Been up and down that road Way up way up, oh no We gon' burn the whole house down
I Can Do It With A Broken Heart - Taylor Swift
'Cause I'm a real tough kid, I can handle my shit They said, "Babe, you gotta fake it 'til you make it" and I did Lights, camera, bitch smile, even when you wanna die He said he'd love me all his life But that life was too short Breaking down, I hit the floor All the pieces of me shattered as the crowd was chanting, "More" I was grinning like I'm winning, I was hitting my marks 'Cause I can do it with a broken heart (one, two, three, four) I'm so depressed, I act like it's my birthday every day I'm so obsessed with him but he avoids me like the plague I cry a lot but I am so productive, it's an art You know you're good when you can even do it With a broken heart
Gone, Gone, Gone - Phillip Phillips
When life leaves you high and dry I'll be at your door tonight If you need help, if you need help I'll shut down the city lights I'll lie, cheat, I'll beg and bribe To make you well, to make you well When enemies are at your door I'll carry you way from war If you need help, if you need help Your hope dangling by a string I'll share in your suffering To make you well, to make you well Give me reasons to believe That you would do the same for me And I would do it for you, for you Baby, I'm not moving on I'll love you long after you're gone For you, for you You will never sleep alone I'll love you long after you're gone And long after you're gone, gone, gone
♡ Badly Summarized OC ♡
Seemingly delicate, polite teenager who loves vintage stuff but can actually pack a punch and is not afraid of a fight - in fact... she rather likes a good bit of chaos
Certified Daddy's Little Girl
That one friend that strangers think is the "Responsible One" but is actually a main Source Of Chaos in the friend group
Feral gremlin of a girl and unashamed, will watch the goriest and intense horror movies while having a girl's night with her friends and painting her nails different colors
Enabler of Bad Decisions who never thinks things through and then gets like "well, went horrifyingly out of control.... LET'S DO IT AGAIN!"
Worst driver in the history of drivers but is trying her best <3
Human embodiment of both an orange cat and a hyperactive border collie in one body
Would practically collect stray puppies and kittens like Pokémons if her current doggo wasn't jealous of every other animal in the world
Likes cereal without the milk. This has nothing to do with anything, but I think its a relevant fact of her personality lol
