Bush Plane - August 2023 While I was trying to get an image of Denali peak at Talkeetna, this bush plane flew low up the river. Like many of the planes in Alaska, it is a very old wood and fabric aircraft. This particular plane is a Piper PA-18 Super Cub that has been modified with extra large wheels for rough grass landings. This type of plane was first built in 1946 and over 10,000 were sold before it became “obsolete” in the late 1950s. They are not obsolete in Alaska. Most of the float planes and bush planes are wooden frames with fabric skins. These handle the extreme temperature ranges better than aluminum and are easier to repair. It would not be surprising to find that the plane which I photographed was well over sixty years old. MWM

(Firebaugh, California) a rounded corner sign on i5 in california - though county line signs may not count as Highway Signs, so afaik the map data is still correct for California

the corners on alaska's signs have a smaller radius than the lower 48 apparently

Fly Agaric Mushroom - August 2023 While driving from Anchorage, Alaska, to Denali we stopped at the Denali View Pullout. Denali was still hiding in the clouds, but Kathy noticed a very beautiful mushroom growing under the trees alongside the pullout. This Fly Agaric Mushroom (amanita Muscaria) was in very good condition. It must have been at most a day old. I took several images, but this one was the best. MWM
