Hi, I really like making little personalized references for characters I like when I get into things! I do this to figure out how I wanna draw them, and is a recent-ish development that I haven’t done a lot, but I really like character design and thinking about them! So I made some for Siffrin. How fun!

DO NOTE THAT THIS WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FOR LATER PARTS OF THE GAME. I did obviously tag it as such for the sake of others and it will be further down, but I figured I’d still warn you just in case. <:3

Now, without further ado, here’s “reference one!”

I’m personally gonna be using this in conjunction with Siffrin’s actual reference sheet (which I refer to as “notes” in mine!!) to make sure he look his best! I also wanted to make sure they’re “in line with canon,” yet still in my style and in a way I can be proud of.

Which isn’t that hard, since I’m usually always proud of my own work. I just like my own stuff. <:3

Due to the brim of his hat allegedly being bean-shaped (teehee), I thought it’d be fun if I carried that over to his torso/body. It’s not noticeable with a cloak in the way, nor when Siffrin’s standing straight up. Basically, the bean shape would only be revealed in certain poses.

(Coming up with that also made me say “Whoops! All beans!” out loud about Siffrin, btw.)

Additionally, I like giving characters is their own set of fangs. One character I draw has a gap between them and the rest of their teeth, one has prominent ones to make them more cat like on purpose — and for Siffrin, I decided to give them rounded ones.

I usually make fangs razor sharp, because I really like big ol chompers like that, so them being round is definitely a very unique thing for Siffrin to have. Well, at least at first.

I’m also a really big fan of certain design elements sticking around after something wild happens to characters… which brings us to “reference two.”

Well, if you’re not gonna be able to find any good references for this version of Siffrin, you might as well make your own, right??

The major thing I wanted to do with this Siffrin was to have him still feel like himself, but also give him somewhat of a unique design in comparison — by playing up elements I noticed during this scene.

Making this Siffrin feel as giant as they are was important to me. I went ahead and made their hat, face, hair and cloak longer. Made their shoulders broader, had them hunch over so they’d practically loom over everyone. Trying to appear smaller while still being an obstacle. Wanting everyone to stay here. Wanting their family.

I noticed that a lot of Siffrin’s hair seemed a lot more angular here, so I felt it crucial to use those shapes, but going a couple steps further and using them for his face as well… primarily his mouth and chin, of course. Which meant replacing those rounded fangs I gave him with a full set of sharper ones.

(I also wanted them to look like they’re too big for Siffrin’s mouth, so two of them — well, four? — will always peek out/fall past their lower lip. It’s like their teeth are not a comfortable fit whatsoever and it makes talking feel weird, but they manage.)

(They stick around after Siffrin “reverts back” or whatever we’re calling it. He never gets his round fangs back, but at least the ones he has now serve as a reminder that he got to the end. Might take some getting used to, though.)

(I also tried making their brows look a bit more angular? Can’t tell if they really come across that way.)

ANYWAY, I THINK I SHOULD STOP HAHAHA. I could go on and on all day, but I got other things to do and I think I’ve already explained enough! Just know that I get a kick out of putting love and care into character thoughts and designs. <:3

hi this may be a bit random but i just want to point out how deep misogyny runs in the cc fandom, starting with how some people judge and criticize the mother characters in cc with so much vitriol, while the cc fathers are given more leeway with the things they do. good examples of this are the knight family and the douglas family.

(s2 and s3 spoilers ahead, and maybe a bit of a trigger warning as well for alcoholism mentions!!)

so starting with karen, people’s immediate impression of her was that she was “a bitch” for divorcing frank due to his alcoholism and for “not letting him see his daughter”. people even go out of their way to say karen filed a restraining order against frank — which was not true btw!! karen loves frank, but while they were both understandably grieving for their dead daughter, frank being an alcoholic was a bad thing for his other daughter to grow up with. karen divorced frank because she wanted him to get himself together. and it was not karen who didn’t want to see frank, it was DAISY who did. maybe it was because she was still angry at him due to his alcoholism and him being emotionally absent in his daughter’s life. karen still left the decision up to her daughter. and it was totally valid for daisy to react that way; she could understand why her father ended up being an alcoholic, but she can still be mad at him at the same time. and in another way, frank feeling guilty about his actions and regretting the way he treated his daughter doesn’t change the fact that to daisy, he was a bad father.

but back to karen, the hate got even worse with frank’s betrayal. people even added a “manipulative” to the “bitch”. she was now a “manipulative bitch” because she “blackmailed frank to do the things he did or else he would never see daisy again.” now i understand why frank did what he did, but truth be told, he did worse things than karen WILLINGLY. he even admits to it and defends karen, saying she never manipulated him!! and he even tells the player and amy that HE WAS UNREDEEMABLE AT THAT POINT. he had the chance to defend himself, but he defended karen instead!! in fact, karen was also manipulated by tesla!! karen organized the heist and did all the things she did just to save her daughter, but people call her an evil, manipulative bitch for it and A BAD MOTHER. while frank does worse for the same reasoning, but people say that karen manipulated him and he’s a good father for doing everything he did for his family.

and then with angela, god. i remember watching pitchingace88 and rolling my eyes whenever he would complain about angela getting worried for her daughters. he insinuates that she’s a bad mother for letting one of her daughters help with the autopsy, and he would yell at her to watch her kids whenever one of them goes missing!! and people blame her for the shenanigans her daughters do like the whole crossbow thing!! but when lars accidentally loses one of their daughters under his watch, somehow the blame STILL GETS SHIFTED UNTO ANGELA!! and people even say he’s the more “responsible parent” just because he doesn’t like talking about gory details of a murder around his kids!!

like people kind of ignore the reason why their daughters ended up tagging along with them in east asia at the first place; lars wanted to move his family to india on a whim without even consulting angela, and when angela gets furious at him for it, somehow people still call her a bitch for it!! angela clearly knows how dangerous their line of work is and clearly doesn’t like the idea of it, but at the same time she misses the girls because they rarely spend time with them, so she eventually warms up to the idea. but that doesn’t change the fact she was upset at lars for it. it would also be exhausting for the girls to go to a totally different country to meet their parents, only for them to immediately get sent back after. LARS EVEN ACKNOWLEDGES AND APOLOGIZES TO ANGELA SAYING THAT WHAT HE DID WAS WRONG!! and in east asia, it was clearly shown and mentioned that lars and angela take turns with watching over their kids, but whenever something happens to their daughters, people still find a way to blame and hate angela for it.

edit: also found a comment in one of pitchingace88’s videos saying that angela ONLY DOES AUTOPSIES, therefore she should be able to watch her kids so it’s her fault 😭 like what

listen, i don’t hate the male characters mentioned, but it’s okay to like and understand a character while acknowledging their faults at wrongdoings at the same time. and we’ve gotta expand our media literacy and stop the hate for the female characters. if frank and lars could hear the shit some people are saying about their wives, they would not like them 🥰

hello and welcome to the start of my rough Despe/Hiromu recap essay! I'll go over their history in relation to one another. A big reason for this recap is to explain my fascination with the 10+ year long history of these characters, and why I, a queer person, is so drawn to it — this post will include links, spoilers and cover the first 9 years of their careers. If you have corrections or additional infos pls DM me!!

egg, (2010-2012)

Hiromu Takahashi and El Desperado started their pro wrestling training around the same time in NJPWs dojo – both passing NJPW's entry exam in 2009 and training for roughly a year till they officially debuted in 2010.

Desperado in March under his real name, Mikami Kyōsuke, and Hiromu later in August. And here we already have some key moments:

Takahashi's professional debut was a singles match against Mikami. (its on YouTube btw)

Despe's first ever singles victory was defeating Hiromu in said debut match.

Mikami is older and ahead of Takahashi, going on to have an impressive winning record over Hiromu, who only managed to get a sole victory over Despe during their time together as students. (two if you count in a dark match)

Hiromu genuinely struggled a lot as a Young Lion (dojo trainee), having been close to giving up on wrestling if it weren’t for main roster wrestler Tetsuya Naito, who took him under his wing.

So yeah starting off Despe had the upper hand.

This part of their career is the hardest to research given that 1.) the language barrier was way higher a decade ago, 2.) there straight up is barely any footage. So instead, I want to explain the emotional importance of the NJPW dojo background:

The time as Young Lions in NJPW is kayfabe canon. These guys are rivals but also teammates, live and train together, fight with/and each other, cheer each other on in their bouts with the seniors, carry each other to the back when they once again got beaten – these guys are close, they have to, it's them against the world.

And that is the case for pretty much all the homegrown NJPW talent. This system provides feuds with an emotional core; why would someone who was that close be so cruel to each other now? What turns brothers, best friends, partners into enemies? So much room for juicy rivalries with a real weight behind it, after all we watched these guys grow and learn, saw their highs and lows.

Also on a less serious note it's simply amusing to watch old stuff and see two guys that will be bitter rivals, who’s matches will get praise and awards - tag together in mostly fruitless efforts, stumble behind the curtain together and be so clueless about all the greatness they’ll achieve one day thanks to each others hard work.

oceans apart, (2012-2016)

As is custom with most Young Lions both went on excursion: Mikami graduating first, in 2012, and working in Mexico for a year as "Namajague" - Hiromu leaving Japan the year Desperado debuts on the New Japan main roster, in 2014, touring in Mexico and the US as "Kamaitachi" till August 2016.

Both worked in CMLL as heels, as is custom for foreign trainees, starting as masked wrestlers, loosing them in a stipulation match, and also getting their hair shaved at some point.

Here you have unmasked Namajague, who went on to rock a half facepaint look and had half of his hair bleached (in 2014, a trendsetter)

and here you got a young unmasked Kamaitachi (yes he was in a team with Christopher Daniels and Frankie Kazarian in RoH)

These are the years Mikami and Hiromu don’t interact in canon, but in an 2020 interview Desperado confessed that he kept an eye on Takahashi during the latter's excursion, cause of his success in Middle/North America and spectacular matches with Dragon Lee.

Love confessions, (May - June 2018)

Their rivalry was fully rekindled in the “Best of the Super Juniors 25” tournament, so let’s set the scene:

Takahashi’s successful: having won the most important championship for their weight division in his first year on the main roster. He’s beloved by fans and critics and a valuable member of his mentor's faction, Los Ingobernables de Japon.

El Desperado is struggling: unsuccessfully having fought for singles titles several times in the last couple of years. His only championship victories so far having been in the tag division, after joining Suzuki-gun, a shady group that tolerates him, but not without hurdles. The masked man debuted in 2013 as a cheerful honourable guy, but by now he was just a bitter, sinister bastard.

They will have their first singles meeting in 6 years, and their first on the main roster.

They are winking and nodding towards the fact that Desperado already has several wins over the younger guy, but do not address who Despy really is - officially Mikami Kyōsuke hasn’t wrestled in New Japan ever since he left for Mexico.

Leading up to the BOSJ Hiromu made a booklet in which he describes all of his possible opponents, Desperado's page is kept blank at first, but later Takahashi adds “I know who you are, and I hate you.”

Despy wants to impress Hiromu. He was one half of the IWGP Jr. Tag champs at that point and took both belts with him to the ring - he's also wearing a special mask, that is mostly white, a colour Japanese wrestlers tend to only wear on special occasions/in big matches.

A lot has changed since they last fought 1 on 1 - except one thing: Hiromu cannot beat Desperado.

Both didn’t shy away from using dirty tricks, but in the end Despy has the upper hand once more. As his opponent lays defeated in the ring the masked menace has this to say:

Hiromu will go on to win the tournament and IWGP Jr. Heavyweight belt from Will Ospreay at the 2018 Dominion show, but the loss to his fellow former Young Lion means that the latter has the right to challenge him, and so he does, in this now infamous promo.

(funfact, this happened the same night Kenny won the IWGP Heavyweight Title with Ibushi in his corner, the gays were EATING that day, in pride month no less)

Leading up to their confrontation Hiromu would post a video on his twitter playing the 'love me/not' flower game, landing on "he loves me" - which promptly makes him eat the flower in frustration

On the day of their match, June 18 2018, he brings Desperado a present:

A bouquet in a guitar case, a cruel call back to Desperados main roster debut back in early 2014: after Kota Ibushi won the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight belt at Wrestle Kingdom 8 a masked stranger approached the ring with a guitar case, revealing it to carry a bouquet of black roses for the freshly crowned champ (who was a lil confused by the whole situation)

It was the start of Despes unsuccessful run as a face and partnership with Ibushi (which you can read as the first man he tried to pursue).

The masked lad wasn't that fond of Hiromu bringing back old memories.

Their match is an all out war, both using underhanded tactics to keep the other one down, including Hiromu unmasking Despy, who shockingly doesn’t care at all - which is a huge deal, I'm going to quote Japanese NJPW commentator Milano here because he said it best:

“To a masked wrestler that’s your identity. It’s everything. But Desperado has it ripped off and then just puts it on like he was fixing his necktie. He was saying that this very essence of himself wasn’t as important as Hiromu or the belt." (translation by Chris Charlton)

But in the end Hiromu is victorious, finally ending his losing streak. After the match he has some interesting things to say:

Life’s a b*tch. (mid 2018 - late 2019)

Hiromu's next title defence is in August 2018 in the USA against Dragon Lee, a match I still haven't been able to watch and probably never will. Due to a messed up move from his opponent, Hiromu lands hard on his neck, breaking it in the process. He somehow managed to finish the match but collapsed backstage, immediately being rushed to a hospital.

In the documentary RED HEADED REVIVAL Hiromu shared that he knew right away that something was wrong – he saw his life flash before his eyes and feared that this is the end of his career, but he decided against stopping the fight:

It took Hiromu over a year to fully recover.

That wasn't the only unfortunate incident though: in spring of 2019 Desperado broke his jaw in a deathmatch against his idol Jun Kasai. The timing couldn't have been worse: the highly anticipated BOSJ Tournament for that year being just about to start. Despe had to withdraw mere days before its opening.

Neither of them would make a return till late 2019. And their next actual confrontation wouldn’t be till 2020.

It was a sad time to be a fan of either - with Hiromu we didn't know till his return if he will even be able to wrestle again. And with Despy we had to witness fans being unnecessarily rude to him, ridiculing him about doing a deathmatch in the first place, eventho the injury could have occurred in any type of match. (if I remember correctly, Desperado even deleted his twitter due to the fan backlash)

BUT I'm gonna end this post on a good note:

1.) Despy's return marked the start of a new era for him:

He wasn't gonna apologise, he broke his jaw, so what? Shit happens. He wasn't going to pretend that the situation didn't happen either tho, hell - Despe returned in a shirt covered in blood spots, making direct references to the match he got injured in. (sth he talked about in this video) And his mask? Dons a fractured jawbone now, the cracks filled in with gold - reminiscent of kintsugi, a Japanese method for repairing broken ceramics with a special lacquer mixed with gold, silver, or platinum. The philosophy behind the technique is to recognize the history of the object and to visibly incorporate the repair into the new piece instead of disguising it.

2.) Hiromu wasn't giving up on his way of life either, making a spectacular return - the best was yet to come. Individually and together/against each other.

Sebson Sunday (Nov 17th 2024)

On Jenson & Sebastian's 2009/2010 World Championship and how they're both decided on who ended up finishing P5.

or something something about Sebson being destined as soulmates to each other by winning their championship pretty much the same way.

Note: You could basically look all of this up on the internet and wikipedia. I just wanted to give some more context to each of the Championship year and put it all on one place. Wikipedia was good, but it didn't exactly explain the scenario when the drivers ended up with the same points or which exact position each driver had to end up for them to win the Championship. So I guess this is my way of doing that (hopefuly). Anyway...

Jenson Button - 2009 - Brazilian Grand Prix:

Simply put, the scenario for Jenson to secure his Championship was this:

Sebastian had to finish P1 if he still wanted to fight for the Championship in Abu Dhabi (the final race) and Jenson finished no higher than P5 (!!!).

Jenson technically had to finish within 4 points of Rubens to make sure Rubens couldn't catch up (example: Rubens could finish P1 but as long as Jenson didn't finish below P3, the 4 point deficit, then Jenson would still be ahead regardless of what happened at Abu Dhabi.)

Side note, neither Sebastian nor Rubens could end the season with the same point as Jenson because then Jenson would still end up as the World Champion for having the most wins in the season.

Now unfortunately, Jenson had a bad qualifying (tbh he'd said he never liked qualifying all that much). Like— started at P14 bad, and Rubens btw was on POLE! So... that's nice for our boy.

A slightly good news? Sebastian also had an equally bad qualifying and would start at P15 just behind Jenson. (See? Seb was just so sweet🥺 he just couldn't leave his boyfriend behind so he decided to join him at the back).

Anyway, quick recap for the race: Rubens struggled so hard to keep his position he unfortunately ended up getting lapped a few drivers and only ended up P8. That was only 1 point added to the board. Meanwhile, Sebastian managed to make up 11 places from P15 to P4🤯. However, that was not enough because he had to finish either P1 or P2 (to be very fair, he really had to finish P1) to make sure he still had the chance for the Championship.

So at the end, Jenson Button (my boyyyy!!!) managed to secure his World Championship simply by finishing P5🥳 and making sure that no other driver could take his place even if he DNFed at Abu Dhabi (Spoiler Alert: He ended up P3 there, that's good enough for me😌)

Sebastian Vettel - 2010 - Abu Dhabi Grand Prix

In some ways, Seb's Championship scenario was easier to explain but a lot harder to achieve in practice. He had to finish P1 at Abu Dhabi while Fernando (who was leading on the standing) finished no higher than P5 (!!!). No other scenario, because that way Seb would still end up as the World Champion for having a lot more P4 finishes (these two basically tagged along the entire season🫨 having the same amount of P1, P2 & P3).

Mark & Lewis was there I guess😅 (Okay, my bad. Sorry boys). Mark would instead be the World Champion if he was P1 and Fernando didn't finish P2 (So P3 all the way down was fine, just not P2). Seb didn't matter in this scenario, since Mark was above Seb in the standing before Abu Dhabi.

Lewis had to finish P1 while Fernando had to either finish outside the points or straight up DNFed, Seb didn't finish on the podium, and Mark didn't finish higher than P7. All at once which— love Lewis, but it's just not gonna happen this way (and it didn't, so you know...)

Yes, 2010 was the year when FOUR drivers could still technically won the Championship (feat. Jenson Button, who sat comfortably in 5th😅 He's just happy to be there). Jenson was already eliminated in Brazil the previous race, which was kinda sad if you think about it since he secured his Championship the year before in Brazil and this year he lost his chance on the same track🙁

Anyway, qualifying went okay, the top 5 started the race on the top 5 as well. The race was when everything changed for everyone. Remember the scenario above? Yeah, Mark & Fernando got held up by the Renaults and they only ended up P7 & P8 (which was ironically sweet, because they suffered together at the end. basically the whole webbonso experience😅) while Seb finished P1 and leapt ahead from 3rd to win his first Championship as the youngest ever Formula 1 World Champion.

In conclusion: It's very neat that both Jenson & Sebastian managed to win their Championship simply based on who finished P5 in their respective races. While Jenson's P5 finish finally brought him his Championship, Seb's first championship ended up being his because his closest rival couldn't manage to finish P5 as intended.

The dungeon rabbits! Absolutely horrifying! Marcille having to necromancy all her friends 😭😭 (I mean that one panel was kinda funny ngl-). There's no way she isn't traumatized from that.

I find that it was appropriately paced! Before starting, I groaned at the thought of reading all that, but nothing really felt like it dragged on more than necessary (unlike SOME manga *cough cough* one piece *cough cough*)

The bonus 'what-ifs' are actually kinda also depressing? I'm specifically talking about the 'Laios gets eaten ' one, the rest are quite funny.

Drabble: Cannibal Secondo x FBI agent reader [GN]

I start my new job tomorrow... Won't be able to give you chapters from my fics each week from now on (I think) but I wanted to leave you with something before I become an inconsistent mess. This is based on the “if you want to get really close to someone you should try eat that person” monologue from Secondo because it had Hannibal NBC vibes and I live for that show (also that video lives in my head rent free), this drabble is also based on the show itself so spoilers ahead.

- Secondo is your therapist. He is also secretly obsessed with you (you are pretty oblivious to it at first though…). He seems very cold and distant but in reality, he is very easy to talk to, or at least you think so.

- He is also a cannibal that debates between eating your organs, keeping you away from his intentions and nature so you are not harmed, or eating you out and make you moan and squirm for him and keep you all to himself.

-As an FBI agent you have been investigating various crimes related to a criminal that collects their victim’s organs as trophies to then eat them.

-Secondo is clever, elegant and very strong. He wears the most beautifully tailored suits and he puts a lot of effort into his appearance.

-The passion of his life is to cook, to find what flavours match, creating the most delicious dishes. It is a pity that he also loves to eat human flesh and that he finds it so very delectable (and he also wants to feed it to people without them noticing).

-His love language is acts of service, so he starts cooking for you as your friendship develops (and his obsession/crush too). He gave you human meat a couple of times, telling you it was pork or something of the sort.

-Seeing you share his ‘hobby’ in such a way made him extremely hard and after you left his house he had to jerk off to your image eating human flesh. You had told him that it was delicious and he wanted to taste you there and then (in any way he could). He resisted the urge though, clenching his napkin so tightly under the table that his knuckles turned white.

- His final goal is to make you realise your true potential. He can see (or wants to see) that you are just like him, that you would be perfect together.

-He had manipulated you, he knew what would nudge you into the direction he wanted, but that also made you fall in love with him.

-He would linger close to you to smell your scent, hold your hand to feel the blood flow under your skin, anything to satiate his hunger for you just for a bit.

- When you finally discover that he was the cannibal that you had been looking for he injures you pretty badly but he knows you will survive, he has made sure of it by not hitting any vital organs or an artery.

- While you are laying down, bleeding like a sacrificed animal, he kisses you very gently and disappears from your life, having tasted your blood for the first time. He would think about that taste for the years to come.

-After a few years of him being missing you find him, he was hiding out in Florence. He made sure that you could find him of course, that you would realise that you are made for each other. You cannot lie to yourself either, you have missed him so very much.

-When you finally meet after so long, your feelings are so exposed and visible for one another that you cannot keep your hands or mouths away no longer.

-He fucks you like you have never been fucked before. He is gentle and careful with you, but also so ruthless and animalistic that tears of pure pleasure fall from your eyes.

- While fucking you, he bites your shoulder and he tastes your blood for the second time in his life, his canines piercing your soft skin, imagining your beautiful and perfect flesh in one of his dishes. He cannot take it and becomes undone by the taste of your blood alone.

-He had tried to remember the taste of you for so long, cuming into his hand as he pumped himself into pleasure thinking it was you who was taking all of him, hearing you cry his name, digging your nails on his back and drawing his own blood. He imagined you tasting it from your finger nails, it mixing with you saliva and then tasting his own metallic crimson blood from your own precious mouth.

-His grumpy facade does not exist with you. After being so ruthless with you in bed he takes care of you as you are the most important thing in his life.

-If you decide that you don’t want to eat human flesh he will respect your decision.

-But if you fulfill his desires and become what he thinks you should become he is more than thrilled. He feels that he has found in you his other half, his equal, someone who understands him.

- Whatever you decide he will spoil you rotten with gifts, meals, escapades, books, whatever you may ask. He just wants you to be happy, but always by his side.

- He would not take you leaving him in a good way to say the least. If he cannot have you as his equal, he will have you as a meal, feasting on you, together forever inside of him… (that is if you don’t kill him first).

👋 Hi, I lost a fic I read on Ao3 back this summer about the BatFam. BTW spoilers ahead for the fic…..

Basically Tim Drake(Civilian Tim Drake) kills the Joker like it’s on video and everyone knows he did it. Tim just mows him down in broad daylight in the middle of the street and like the reason why is super suspicious of why Tim set up all the dominos to fall that way so he could /legally/ kill the Joker and get away with the “crime”. But Jason falls in love with Tim from the time of the announcement to the conclusion of the trial. I don’t remember the ending of the fic but I think Jason had been seriously wounded by the Joker and Tim testified that reason Joker had to die was killing Robin in front of the entire Wayne family like even Talia supported Jason’s one sided romance after that… I can’t find the story anywhere and I know I bookmarked it too but I also can’t find it through tags…

Anyone know it or where to find it?

fun fact this is the first time i got 100% achievements on a game please ignore the Visual Novel tag I am a very pro gamer I swear

anyway some quick rambles:

I've been slowly making my way through this game rather than rushing through so some of my thoughts on the early sections are lost to time,

the main thing about this is that it takes a while to get to the good part but also without the slice of life elements i think it would be a significantly worse game so probably slowly going through rather than binging all at once is the right call

also the steam release has "updated" sprites (you can turn off) and i have a rant on why those sprites are actually worse in my opinion even tho they are technically drawn better but that could be its own post

(would you believe me if i told you these two sprites are supposed to be conveying the exact same emotion, according to the game these are the same sprite)

(or what about mion being banned from showing emotion beyond default anime expressions, not like she's a super playful energetic character or anything)

you can turn these out so it's not an issue but if we have to have redraws for rereleases can they be like.... good, when all a visual novel has is a couple dozen sprites per character they need to be good at showing emotion

oh yeah also its very obvious they only have like 7 songs total for this game ost lol there is only one good song in the ost btw, from a quick google serch looks like every version of the vn has a different ost lol

oh right yeah one thing is that going into the VN knowing the twist from the anime i think did make the experience slightly less good in some places i kinda do wish i could go in 100% blind but i know it would not hold my attention otherwise

(spoiler talk) knowing about the Hinamizawa Syndrome ahead of time def made it some some suspenseful scenes had me going "Keichi you ass your literally just tripping balls" like on one hand scenes where i notice a logical explanation with the context of knowing the twist is a sign of good writing but because i did not get my first experience with the VN idk i feel like i was missing out

regardless ill probs slowly go through the rest of the VN cuz i liked it overall, i already bought the next 3 games (first was free) so i guess i have to cuz i hate having a backlog

oh yeah the first chapter of the VN is free and its 10+ hours so if you like sorta kinda are intrested cuz of the anime you dont have anything to loose i wouldnt say its a strong reccomened yet but its more a "i enjoyed it and didnt feel like my time was waisted"

SO ROLESWAP WITH FALIN AS THE ONE GOING TO RESCUE LAIOS AFTER HE GETS EATEN BY THE DRAGON. things would be similar to in canon with some differences. Laios getting fuckin bit in half saving falin. Marcille being the one to teleport them all and feeling really guilty for leaving laios behind but she was unable to stomach the idea of losing falin when it was so close to happening… both of them still having chil tag along (chil is now the one pining for his missing touden btw. if you even care).

And meeting Senshi who is a bit more reserved about Falin’s magic but less wary because it’s gnomish and he knew gnomes at least. Falin and Marcille both doing dark magic together to resurrect him. (Um. Falin may have put herself in the dungeon a bit and well you see she might just be a beautiful puppy girl with gender affirming fangs and feathers and. um. the dragon cock) and

She is grappling with taking what she wants and no longer just being understanding and easygoing and protecting everyone else but having to confront seizing her own happiness and her own life and rescuing Laios even if other people don’t like him. i see her as being a fundamentally deeply enmeshed character and growing from that would be her plot arc. Namari would still leave but they might still have Shuro idk. Or maybe Falin would alienate him by saying something abt Laios mattering more and not caring about Shuro or if he loved her if he can’t save Laios then who gives a shit about him. And then he’d leave to get his retainers and prove himself to HER rather than his father I think. Yeah that’s pretty good

And ANYWAYS falin is already a chimera so the changeling shrooms maybe don’t affect her or maybe she just gets like. Um. you know how izutsumi just becomes a different race of beastkin. Don’t look at me. And then Marcille is still a half foot and she gets soooooo overwhelmed. The speculative bio of it all. The undocked long tail. (Chil could share a little lore about them traditionally being docked at adolescence to become an adult to avoid stigma of being considered basically beast men etc [and falin would be like ooooh shit that’s why he’s so weird about eating demihumans huh bcuz some ppl consider half-foots basically as that.] but also that more modern half-foots are eschewing the tradition... He let his kids pick what they wanted to do, and Fler wanted hers docked but Mei and Puck chose to keep them.)

And anyway overwhelmed Marcille just wants Falin to take care of her so Falin carries her away in her big strong chimera tallman arms and keeps brushing her whiskers and well. They simply get so curious about each others’ bodies (no chance to explore really with the pace of the dungeon and staying ahead of Others), that they simply must bang it out. Falin can smell her. Btw. Biting with the fangs. Btwwww

Chil also had an experience of chimera laios treating him oh so gently and staring at him w the same usual dopey laios look before wreaking havoc on everyone else. Btw. And it keeps him up at night. If u even care

Officially finished a first play through of all the romantic routes in book 3. Gonna give my review/thoughts on all of them. Probably a long post ahead because I have a lot of feelings even if no one but me cares lmao. (Obviously, spoilers under the cut)

The overall book

I’ve already seen someone in the tag say that this book had their least favorite plot but favorite relationship scenes. And I think I have to agree with that. The villains of this book just…did not intrigue me the way the villains of the first two books did. I’m not sure why but something about them didn’t hit. HOWEVER the romance and friendship scenes were excellent, the best of the series so far. And because I typically care more about characters than I do plots, that saved it for me.

Gonna ramble about the routes in order of the way I played them. (Since I only play the femslash routes, I’m going to be referring to the characters only by their female names in order to not complicate things. But obviously most of it applies to the male versions too.)

Ava

Ohhhhh Ava. My personal fave but the one that hurts the most lol. And this book (especially the ending) was no different. Though to her credit, we DID get a lot more from her than I thought we were going to get. Ava showed far more vulnerability in this book than she did in the first two books combined. From telling the detective her backstory (which was unbelievably sad btw. I totally get why she’s so emotionally guarded), taking the detective on that car date and letting them in on something that gives her personal enjoyment, and affirming to the detective more than once that she’s afraid to lose them.

And then….that kiss/confession scene. Like many others, I predicted that we were going to get a kiss only for Ava to take it back. But it DID kind of surprise me that she was so honest about it and did confess that she knew there was something between them. I kind of figured it was going to be an impulsive scene with no actual confessions. So this was better than I imagined. Still, it was a gut punch. And while I sympathize with Ava’s trauma and I don’t think she owes the detective a relationship, it is kind of coming off as her (unintentionally or not) playing with the detective’s feelings. So because of that I do think she sort of deserved the verbal smack-down your UB bestie gives to her towards the end. (In my route, Morgan accused her of caring more about protecting herself than she did about protecting the detective…and atm I’m kind of inclined to agree with that.)

I see Ava finally giving in at some point during book 4. Mostly because at this point…where else can her route go? They’ve kissed and feelings have been confessed. There’s no taking that back. It can only go up from here now, right? (At least I hope lmao). I’m wondering if the detective is going to move into the warehouse in the near future now that they’re officially a member of Unit Bravo? That could also be interesting on this route.

I love Ava and desperately want her to finally be happy. But she needs to stop sabotaging herself 😩

Favorite scene: The car date! I loved that we got to see a lighter, more peaceful side of her during it. Plus that wrist kiss 🥺

Morgan

While Ava is my favorite member of Unit Bravo, I do have to confess that Morgan was probably the MVP of book 3 specifically. Both her romance route and her friendship scenes were excellent in this book. Her character development is so apparent. I love how the detective steadily notices Morgan using less and less sexual innuendos in their conversations together as the route goes on. Not because Morgan has lost interest, but because she’s becoming legitimately afraid of the possibility of something happening to the detective…and grappling with the realizations that she really does not want to lose them. I was initially surprised by the lack of sex in her route, but the fact that there wasn’t one until near the end was really fitting imo. And at that point, it wasn’t just sex, it was making love. (Whether Morgan fully realized it or not). The route was just so emotional, in a way I wasn’t fully expecting.

I think at this point, Morgan knows that the detective is very important to her. She just isn’t fully sure how she wants to define the relationship. But I see her getting there very soon. I used to say that I saw Morgan fully giving in to her feelings before Ava (and I still think that) but maybe they’re both going to get there in book 4. Just Morgan towards the beginning/middle and Ava probably at the end.

Favorite scene: The shower scene. It was so tender and sweet. I loved that it was completely non-sexual and just Morgan helping the detective with their wounds. It’s possibly in my top 3 scenes of the series so far in general tbh.

Nat

I enjoyed Nat’s route this book way more than I thought I was going to. I like her character but her route has always admittedly been my least favorite…mostly just because I found it the least interesting. However, that certainly started changing here.

First off, it was surprisingly spicy. I already mentioned this in another post but I’ll say it here too. I find it very funny that Nat comes off as so scandalized by the sexual stuff in Morgan’s route but then in her own route…we get a potential outdoor sex scene, and one against a pool table lmao.

But outside the shallow stuff, I also liked all of the internal conflict with Nat. Her route is arguably the fastest burn. (I know Farah’s was kind of fast as well, but Farah at least hasn’t dropped the L word yet. At least not on my play through). Nat fell hard and fast. HOWEVER I think the reason for that might be because there’s a lot of angst coming in her route in the future. It’s obvious she’s keeping something about her past a secret from the detective…something dark. And she’s afraid that if the detective finds out about it, they won’t love her anymore. I’m very intrigued to find out what that is. My guess is she spent a period hunting and killing people before she joined the agency and found redemption. Whatever it is, it’s sure to be juicy.

Favorite scene: Their first sex scene. I loved that it comes right after the detective’s first love confession.

Farah

I saved Farah as my last solo route because I wanted to get some fluffiness in before delving into the pain the triangle was bound to bring me. And it definitely delivered. Her route had me smiling like an idiot throughout most of it.

But I also enjoy the complexities of Farah’s character. It’s very apparent that she has abandonment issues. Even though she’s obviously happy being with the detective, she also isn’t 100% sure that the detective isn’t going to eventually leave her, which breaks my heart. (And that’s probably part of the reason the L word hasn’t been dropped on her route yet). In a way, she’s almost as emotionally guarded as Ava and Morgan but she just hides it better. (Using a sunny and happy persona).

My hope for her is that she eventually gets to a place where she can talk to the detective about those insecurities. My guess is eventually, something big is going to happen that’s going to finally fully prove that the detective is in it for the long haul with her. Maybe she gets kidnapped and the detective goes through a lot to save her, or something like that.

Favorite scene: The movie date :)

Love Triangle

Not gonna lie, I’m not a huge fan of the love triangle. Partly because I always feel bad and making the decisions stresses me out lmao. But because I want to see everything, I have a detective for it.

The drama is heating up. Nat is beginning to realize there’s something going on between Ava and the detective, she just doesn’t want to accept it yet. And they’re starting to fight more :( I take solace in the fact that the author has already said that A and N’s friendship will be okay in the end, no matter what happens with the triangle. But I’m assuming we’re in for some more drama before things settle.

Being that Ava is my fave, I’ve pretty much always planned to have my detective eventually choose her, even though I feel bad about hurting Nat. But ngl, this book only further cemented that decision. I know there’s probably traumatic reasons why Nat is so overprotective of the detective but Ava was right when she said she was smothering them. I find Ava’s way of handling things (obviously wanting to protect the detective but also acknowledging they’re strong and should be able to get the chance to fight for themselves) far more attractive, personally.

(Side note: It’s interesting that there’s kind of been a role reversal between Nat and Ava on that front. In the beginning, Nat wanted to tell the detective the truth about the supernatural whereas Ava wanted to keep them in the dark. But now, Nat wants the detective to sit out of the fighting while Ava thinks they should get to be involved).

I’m wondering when the triangle is going to be resolved? My current guess is by the end of book 4, being that’s when I think Ava will finally give in on her solo route as well).

Basically, everyone in Unit Bravo needs therapy.

i read the manga during my last year of uni and when i tell you i SOBBED at the end... yes ofc for obvious reasons, but mostly bc my little Levi loses EVERYTHING. He is the SOLE survivor of the veteran scouts. He's missing multiple fingers, an eye, and the ability to walk. He was the strongest (yowaimo) but wasn't even granted the mercy to die at the end of his narrative! Broke my fucking heart.
