Accountant of Theed
Read on AO3
After all is said and done, someone needs to balance these books, and nobody actually told the accounting department how they paid for this new hyperdrive. Mimi really hopes it's not a loan from the Hutts.
Disclaimer: I am not an accountant, but I work in an adjacent field (and have been considering getting a certification, but that's neither here nor there). While I did take some courses on it, I asked an Accounting Person to look over the excel sheet before I went forward with the rest of the fic to make sure it's internally consistent. Thank you to @gnomer-denois for confirming my balance on these works!
The reconciliation sheet does NOT follow contemporary guidelines in terms of format etc, but that is because it is:
In space! Standard practice differs from Modern United States or what have you.
Not the primary balance sheet, just the simplified version made to show to Queen Amidala.
If you'd prefer to view the Excel sheet in a more easily navigable form, there is a google drive link available. This is also your best option if using a screen reader.
-----------------------------------------
Theed is safe. They are rebuilding. There is even financial support, aid, from the Republic.
It comes with strings attached. Oversight. Auditors.
Wouldnât want Naboo to misuse funding after that nasty mistake with the Trade Federation, right? Sure, Naboo wasnât the one at fault, but one can never be too careful...
Mimi, as an accountant for the government of Naboo, does not in fact want to commit fraud, or enable corruption, but the rolling audits do feel a little like the Republic is punishing them for getting invaded.
âHey, boss?â
That tone. Mimi does not like that tone. âPlease tell me itâs not another unauthorized purchase with a missing receipt. Which account did they pull from this time?â
âUm... we donât know?â
Mimi gives them a moment. No elaboration is given.
âYou donât know?â
âWe donât know,â the younger employee repeats.
âWhat do you mean?â Mimi asks. âPeople charge things to accounts or cards. They forget to submit receipts. We hunt them down for receipts, and make sure nobody is skimming off the top. Thatâs how it goes. Unless this is a purchase on a personal and we need to reimburseââ
âUm, maybe?â
âIn whichâwhat? Thatâs just... okay. Thereâs a process for reimbursements. You arenât following it, which means... what? What do you mean, you donât know? Did they use cash, or pull from an account?â
The younger employee looks down at their datapad. Looks back up at her. Looks baffled and a little scared. âUm, itâs... we still donât have a receipt, but we also donât know where the money for it came from? But nobodyâs put in a reimbursement request and I canât imagine anyone on the mission had those funds on them, not even the Queen herself.â
âThe money for what?â
âUm. It sort of just... showed up?â
âSo, itâs some kind of gift?â Mimi presses.
âToo big,â the younger mumbles, refusing to meet her eyes. âIt would have to be disclosed.â
âI am giving you five secondsââ
âItâs a hyperdrive!â they yelp.
â...Explain.â
âOne of the mechanics was looking over the Royal Cruiser, and found that there was unrecorded repair work to the hyperdrive. The ship took enough damage during the escape that he wasnât surprised, but then he noticed that it was from an earlier run of the part, and when he checked, the serial number was completely wrong. The hyperdrive was completely replaced.â
Mimi closes her eyes and takes a breath. âThe mechanic doesnât know?â
âHe said thereâs nothing in the records that matches it at all, and itâs a big enough part that thereâs no way it would just slip through the cracks, not when itâs that expensive and going on the Royal Cruiser.â
âSo,â Mimi says, âwe have a part worth almost as much as the rest of the cruiser combined, that just... came out of nowhere, and nobody claiming for reimbursement.â
âYes, maâam. Thatâs what it looks like.â
Mimi has no interest in fraud.
âFind out who was piloting when Queen Amidala escaped, and see if they have any answers,â Mimi tells them. âIf we can keep it to just the hangar staff without drawing in the Royal Retinue, itâll be easier on all of us.â
âHereâs hoping, maâam.â

A Human's Touch (p.AI.nter x Reader) | Chapter 1
Next Chapter
Masterlist
Notes: This is a cross-post from AO3! Some of my readers wanted it on Tumblr so here I am! I have not posted writing in a REALLY LONG time on Tumblr so if there is any way that I can make the formatting better PLEASE hmu!
âHah! As if I would talk to you!â
You pressed your lips into a fine line, a sigh escaping your lips. You sat on a chair in front of the one and only Z-779, in other words, the_p.AI.nter who you simply called Painter in your notes. You tapped your pen rapidly on your notebook.
It was always times like these where you somewhat wished that the subject you would be talking to would simply not be coherent enough that you can skip the whole âtalkingâ process. Or even be extremely coherent and willing to talk so you could breeze through.
However this âsupercomputerâ wasnât at all interested in talking to you.
The other scientists insisted that the only time that you could only really talk to Painter near the âendâ of the day was when it would be early, Painter would be too busy mining crypto. You never knew that there would be a whole computer just to mine crypto, you thought the craze ended years agoâŚ
So much for making it easier, Painter kept ignoring you or even telling rude things. Such as insulting your fashion sense.
Painterâs screen occasionally glitched, its face appearing for a split second grinning only to turn into something more deadpan.
You sighed briefly, thinking back to its file wondering if there was anything that you could use yet coming back completely blank.
â... You really donât want to tell me how youâre doing?â You tried again.
Silence.
âDo you like working with Urbanshade?â
Silence again.
âDo you miss your life before Urbanshade?â
Bingo.
You didnât get a response but instead a reaction, it was a good start.
That was your ânuclearâ question, the one question that always worked to get a reaction to anyone that you could communicate with. And it was your job to see their reaction.
However what you didnât expect was seeing more pop-ups on Painterâs screen, opening a lot more tabs of work, as if it was trying to mine even more crypto (if that was even possible).
âHey, what are you doing?â
You quickly wrote down what was happening, approaching the computer as it suddenly overclocked, shutting down. Trying to wake up the computer you attempted to find its power switch only to pull your hand away quickly thanks to the severe overheating the computer suffered through.
âHey-â
âStep away from the computer.â You heard the intercom go, your shoulders slacked slightly. âZ-779 has overclocked its systems, it is best you return tomorrow.â
You almost wanted to protest, you wanted to know what happened to the computer to react in such a way.
Without much choice you stepped out of the room that held Painter, nodding at the researchers that were overseeing the experiment as you went straight to your office.
Even if your day was technically done (and cut short) you wanted to attempt to write down more questions for Painter. That and also wanting to find out what exactly happened to it.
âJeez~ I thought you were never going to get out of there.â Raiding the community kitchen was Sebastian in his âmechanicâ uniform, which just looked like a brown version of the prisoner uniform. He only had the coat on with a couple of belts with bags around his body and tail.
After a while of working at Urbanshade, he became like your personal assistant with research, which was why Urbanshade just let you have him around (and in turn, let him be in places he originally wasnât supposed to be at). In the end however, he was just one of the subjects that the Blacksite housed but ultimately your responsibility.
Youâre sure your co-workers are not going to be happy that heâs out there stealing their food.
âIt was actually quicker than I normally take.â You looked over at your watch checking the time as if to prove yourself a point, you were definitely extremely early compared to other times. Even with the Painter just ignoring you which made you need to be patient, it was fast.
âŚNot as fast as the time you had to study Pandemonium though.
Sebastian hummed in response, biting into a ham sandwich he found. Youâre 100% sure that was one of your co-workerâs lunches. He always liked pissing them off, snickering when he would hear them complain about their missing lunch at a distance.
âWho was it this time?â
âZ-779, the computer painter.â You replied, putting a hand on your chin. You still donât know why it got overclocked.
âOhhhh yeah, I remember reading the document.â Sebastian wiped his hands on his shirt to remove any stray crumbs, he always ate so fast when it came to normal foods that would be filling for you. You wondered if his DNA change also changed his metabolism. âWas that computer too busy mining crypto to give you attention? Thought that fad died a year ago.â
âThatâs what I thought!â You exclaimed, putting a hand on your head. âWhy would Urbanshade be constantly mining a currency that is constantly losing value?!â
Sebastian only snickered in response. âRight.â He put an arm on the fridge, leaning on it. âBut Iâm sure that isnât the reason youâre frustrated right now, hm?â
You shook your head, your confusion of Urbanshade and crypto completely throwing away your focus. âNo. Of course not.â
âThen?â
Pausing, you pondered slightly. Theories start to float in your brain. âWell, the computer completely went into overdrive when I was there.â
That seemed to raise an eyebrow for Sebastian. âDid it fry some circuits or something?â
âThey didnât let me check.â You sighed, shaking your head again. The feeling of the boiling metal still tingles your hand slightly. Youâre surprised it didnât burn you.
Sebastian only crossed his arms, now he was thinking to himself. Perhaps it was because he actually worked with electronics and circuits that he was actually thinking his own theories. Not like he was a computer wiz or anything⌠maybe.
It was only after a bit where Sebastian narrows his eyes at you. âWait, what exactly did you ask the computer?â
âThe typical questions.â You started telling him the usual questions you ask all subjects. He knew them too well as not only was he asked them multiple times but also sometimes would visit when you would be doing your own interrogations (much to your co-workers chagrin).
âYeah but did you ask that question?â
âWhich one?â
âThe stupid one.â
You pondered for a bit. âDo you mean the whole⌠âmissing your life before Urbanshadeâ..?â
Sebastian straightened his body, his third arm leaning on the counter. His expression was serious which only made you realise that question was the one he was talking about.
âWell-â
âNo! Whatâs wrong with you? I told you to stop asking that stupid ass question!â Sebastian almost launched at you in full force before you saw him hold back slightly. It didnât change the strength he used when grabbing ahold of your shoulders though as he shook you slightly. âAre you stupid or something?!â
It was rare for you to see Sebastian frowning at you, he normally was angry at everyone but you but you can feel the frustration on him.
âThat computer wasnât answering my questions!â
âSo you pull the big âno-noâ question?!â
You sighed slightly, already feeling defeated once more. â...yeah.â
Sebastian only shook you again. âHereâs hoping you get your brain cells again Doctor.â He used your title as his voice sounded strained. His voice went down into a whisper. âNone of us like this, Urbanshade took everything from us. What makes you think thatâs a good fucking question?!â
You can tell he was getting agitated, even his lure was flickering slightly. Putting a hand on his arm (that was still shaking you), you looked up at him. âI know I know, Iâm sorry.â You sighed again, looking down. âI wonât do it again.â
You felt like a child being chastised by their mother.
âYou better not.â Sebastian let you go, pointing a finger at you. âAgain.â
âIâm sorry really.â You sighed, putting a hand on your forehead. âThe computer just wouldnât talk to me at all, it was getting frustrating.â
It was a long day and only being able to talk with the computer at the end after just analysing another one earlier in the day was something. Even worse was how said computer only answered you with insults.
âThere are better questions.â Sebastian put a hand on his hip. âI thought you knew this.â
âItâs a computer.â
âA computer with fee-lings.â Sebastian used two of his hands as if to emphasise his words, elongating the last word as if to prove a point. âItâs literally in its document.â
âYeah but-â
âNo butsâ
You sighed, he was right. You were completely out of your game right now. Youâve dealt with worse subjects, apparently the crypto-mining computer just got on your nerves too much.
Sebastian opened the fridge again taking out someone else's lunch. âYou know what, letâs go to your office and read the computerâs documents again, refresh your brain, and write down better questions.â He slithered his way to you, putting one of his hands on your shoulder. âCanât believe I need to help you do your own job.â
He went in front of you, and you knew that what he said was more like a command over a suggestion. Sometimes you wondered if he was more like your boss over the subject that you oversee.
You caught up to him quickly as he slithered slower so as to not make you run to be able to match his speed. After you were beside him he gave you part of the lunch he stole.
âIn the files, they mentioned how that computer wasnât only taken away from their owner, but, and get this, was promised to go back to see the surface if it mines enough crypto.â Sebastian started, side eyeing you a little bit as you reached your office. You opened the door with your ID. âIn other words, that computer misses its life before Urbanshade. Do you understand where Iâm going?â
You already knew that your question wasnât the smartest, but it made the machine react which had to be some good result for research.
Without waiting much for your response, Sebastian continued, easily finding the Painterâs file. âThe computer already overclocks just thinking about the possibility of it, wanting to go back to painting so badly. I wouldnât be surprised if the exact reason it overheated and shut down when you were there was because you mentioned the place it exactly wants to get to and made it just want to work faster to get there again.â
You sat down on your chair. A sigh escaping your lips as everything was indeed starting to make sense. Even if you were in psychology, you felt so severely underqualified to deal with the behaviour of so many inhuman subjects.
An artificially intelligent computer was completely different from the other subjects youâve studied this whole time. So it was always nice to hear Sebastianâs point of view on these things, sometimes you would be completely blocked mentally if it wasnât for him.
You opened your notebook as Sebastian slid the Painterâs document over to you.
You stretched your fingers. âAlright, letâs start thinking outside of the box.â

Author Commentary - I Know Where to Look (Chapter 1)
Howdy y'all! I just posted the first chapter of my first tf2 fic, and figured that rambling about my thought processes from writing it would be fun. So, enjoy?
Welcome to my first Author Commentary post!
Regardless of if anyone other than my best bud (and partner in word crimes) @cursedâalien read these going forward, I thought it would be fun to explain references and thoughts from the process of fic writing. These are the sort of thing I love to know about my favorite art. Iâm a great lover of artist interviews (specifically the ones where the artist in question explains the development of the concept and reasoning for the techniques they use) and an avid reader of authorâs notes, so I hope that if anyone reading my fic is like me that they will enjoy this addition to the story.
Formatting
I feel that the most notable thing about this fic is that, despite being rated as explicit, every explicitly sexual scene is under a cut. Why do this instead of just making the scenes fade to black or formatting it in a standard manner? Because, dear reader, I have had the experience of reading explicitly rated fic solely for the buildup to the smut scenes. I experience fluctuations between sex favorability to neutrality, all the way to aversion. When Iâm feeling uncomfortable with explicit sexual content, I often wish there was a way to just skip those scenes entirely. But on the other hand, I also acknowledge that sex scenes CAN have narrative and character importance. For the specific dynamic that Corey and I envisioned for Red Oktoberfest- that being a relationship that starts as professional and sexual before becoming emotionally involved, those scenes would be a shame to ignore entirely on my part.
Behaviors and thoughts during sexual intimacy are rich with characterization, and I wanted to be able to express that. So, the best of both worlds, to me, was to have a second layer of opting in to reading those scenes. I may have to redo them later, however, because the way I had to go about it doesnât work with pdf downloads and likely isnât screen reader accessible. My current thoughts in regards to those problems is to encourage folks to download as some other format, and eventually create a podfic of this story.
Headcanons Involved
Something you may notice about this is the amount of headcanon Iâm trying to cram into it. To be frank, I use most fic writing as a vehicle with which to go âlook at my headcanons, boyâ, so this isnât surprising.
The first of which I would like to note is Heavyâs love of pulp romance. I couldnât tell you why I first thought of it, but itâs grown on me like moss. Mikhail is a lover and a fighter. To me. In my heart. He views all art for what it is, and values the stories themselves pretty equally. The only important difference between the two books heâs carried with him from Russia and the pulp heâs collected in the US is sentimentality.
Speaking of those books, why the two I picked? Brothers Karamazov is a pretty obvious choice. Itâs a classic and widely studied. Tsar Hunger by Leonid Andreyev, however was actually mentioned by name in Poker Night At The Inventory. In one conversation, Tycho asks Heavy what his favorite book is, to which he replies that he âprefers war.â Eventually, though, he does end up saying that he likes Tsar Hunger. I wanted to know if this was just a book picked at random, or if it actually meant something about Telltaleâs interpretation of Heavyâs character. After all, the tumblr side of the fandom LOVES Heavyâs PhD in Russian Literature. It was. A BITCH. To find any information about that book. There isnât a goodreads page for it. Or a wikipedia. Or even an amazon page selling copies. Like, what the fuck? Eventually, I found that the Internet Archive has it available to borrow by the hour. The particular copy that was archived was originally from the University of Texas and has a fabric cover. So no synopsis.
At this point I was thinking âoh my fucking god Iâm two hours into this research process,â and decided I wouldnât be reading King Hunger. Iâve skimmed it a bit and, filling in the blanks with some guesses based on the information Wikipedia provided about the author, itâs a symbolic/expressionist criticism of the monarchy, but one which also criticizes bloody revolution. Please take that with a pound of salt though. Once again, I spent a solid three hours getting to that amount of understanding.
This actually leads me to discussing another element thatâs important to my interpretation of Heavy. Namely, who is father was. On r/TF2, I constantly see people arguing back and forth whether its fine to joke about Mikhail being âHeavy Communism Guyâ or if thatâs a gross misunderstanding since his father was declared a counterrevolutionary. (Meanwhile these same dimwits are happily joking about Medic being a member of a certain fascist regime, but I digress)
Personally, I think Mikhailâs father (who I will be calling Ivan Melnyk going forward, as I headcanon Heavyâs full name to be Mikhail Ivanovich Melnyk) was counterrevolutionary, but not anti-communist. That venn diagram isnât just a circle my friends. In political matters, itâs very easy to get stuck in black and white thinking- and thatâs fair for large matters- but, when it comes down to how people believe they should go about making changes, thatâs where you get in-fighting between allied groups.
More clearly, I believe that Ivan was a man who believed in progress and common good, but found disproportionate violence distasteful. And he would have tried to impart those values on his son. However, Ivanâs death and his familyâs imprisonment would really sour that for Mikhail. It adds a level of complexity where he is both someone who hates senseless violence (see: the sparrow story in Poker Night), but is extremely wrathful (see: the engineer story in Poker Night).
Switching gears, letâs talk respawn. Personally, I like the idea of it as something that exists in universe, rather than just being a game mechanic in the Documentary Video Game About the Gravel Wars. It adds some more leeway for goofy shit the mercs can get up to while also opening up more avenues for mentally trauma. Angst my beloved.
Respawn
Respawn, in my mind, works by teleporting the remains to a mechanism that then recycles the matter into a pre-programmed form. I imagine that this is updated every day for the TF2 mercs, but only by the week or month for the Classic era systems. Upon exiting respawn, subjects may experience ârespawn sickness,â which includes symptoms of nausea, diziness, anxiety, sensitivity to light and sound, disorientation, soreness, ect. One can become accustomed to respawn over time, and this is expedited by the modern systems, but some might remain sensitive to respawn even after years of use.
TFI standard protocol is to switch respawn systems over to the older system in order save money and perform diagnostics/maintenance without risking the permanent death of one of their âspecialists.â
Another book note
The passage Heavy reads at the end is from a novella called Special Nurse by Lucy Agnes Hancock. It is Yet Another book I havenât read, but decided to reference. Originally, I had wanted to reference a Harlequin Romance published in 1960-63, as I really didnât want to include that flavor of anachronism. Dont fucking ask me why, but it mattered to me. However, the vast majority of what I could find online to read was published between 1975 and 1998. There were three books that technically fit my requirements, but the two from 1961 were either vacation romance or noble romance. Which just didnât fit the vibe I was looking for. And the one from 1963 was published in November of that year. Which would have been fine, but I envisioned this chapter taking place in late May or early June.
In the late 40âs to mid 60âs Harlequin published SOOOOO many hospital romances. And this amused me, so I desperately wanted Heavy to be reading one. But I searched multiple times and just. Couldnât find any that I could skim through. Fuck, dude, I couldnât even find samples or excerpts. I COULD BARELY FIND SYNOPSES. I got desperate and dug through my momâs old romance novel collection and lo and behold, there it was. Special Nurse. Itâs not Harlequin (published by Pocket Books) and it wasnât technically from 60-63 (originally published in 1948, but received 5 print runs from 1950-19060. Mine is from August 1960), but it WAS A DOCTOR ROMANCE. HUZZAH.
Dear fucking lord why do I do this shit to myself ahhhhhhhh

Hi, thanks for all your IDs! I'm new to Tumblr and want to write IDs. Are there etiquettes that I should take note of, like which posts to write IDs for and which not to? Any tags I should look out for? I came from Reddit and I'm aware that not all users want to have IDs on their posts, there's probably something similar here.
Hi, first of all you're very welcome for the descriptions! It's always nice to hear that my efforts are appreciated :)
Ideally, any post with images should also have a description for those images. Any post that doesn't already have an ID in the original post is one that's appropriate to add a description to. Even if someone else already wrote a description in a reblog, you're allowed to write your own if you want to. I personally haven't encountered anyone who has been upset when I've written a description? I think that's more an individual thing than something specific to a certain type of post.
There's not a consensus on what format works best for image descriptions, but alt text or plain text (not colored and normal size) directly below the image in the body of the post are generally considered the most accessible. Alt text tends to work better for screen readers, and plain text works better for some people who need descriptions but don't use screen readers. I personally use alt text for posts with a lot of images and plain text for posts with only a few. I've also seen people put a short description in alt text and a more detailed one in body text.
Other etiquette includes indicating when a description starts and ends. I use brackets and start and end with [ID / End ID] but some other formats Iâve seen include âStart ID / End IDâ of âImage description / End image descriptionâ and being objective in your descriptions. If you're describing a picture of a dog as a "cute puppy," you're telling the reader what to think instead of letting them come to their own conclusion.
As for tags I know some people like to sort their posts as âdescribedâ for posts with IDs and âundescribedâ or âno IDâ for posts without. I find most of my descriptions either from people I follow or from looking in the notes of specific posts as opposed to searching tags so I'm not much help there, but here is a link to a post listing a whole bunch of accounts that make image descriptions.
There isn't really one way to write image descriptions because people have different accessibility needs, but even a simple description is better than no description. The basic format I usually go with is this:
[ID: A (type of image, painting, photo, etc) of (subject; if it's fan art I like to include the source) doing (action, this can really be as detailed or as simple as you want.) End ID]
In general, I go with more simple descriptions for comedic posts and more detailed ones for art. My number one tip is to follow people who write and reblog descriptions and to read them! I've picked up a lot of formats and phrases I use a lot in descriptions from people I follow.
If you're looking for more resources, Iâm going to point you towards my mutual Kay @pathos-logical âs accessibility tag that has a bunch of good posts on how to write descriptions. You're also welcome to send me another ask or DM me if you'd like ^^

S/O who sleeps (too much) in the oddest of places
Ohh, being tired 24/7. I feel ya,,
((My formats will be a bit a different as Iâm experimenting which feels and looks best, so bear with me))
- Y a s . My five favorite characters of haikyuu. yes. I agree. -
----------------
Pair(s): Iwaizumi Hajime x Reader, Suna Rintaro x Reader, Tendou Satori x Reader, Yachi Hitoka x Reader & Sugawara Koushi x Reader
Summary:Â
You are the type of person to either have pulled so many all nighters that fatigue has finally caught up to you and the backlash is very intense, or you are such a sleepy person youâll take a nap anywhere, anytime. It had cause inconvenience sometimes, such as having to keep the storage closet in school locked to prevent you from sleeping and being locked in, or skipping some classes to doze off. But thankfully your partner was able to help and spot you in time before anything off happens.Â
Iwaizumi Hajime x ReaderÂ
((Ughhh, I love and pimp,,, I canNOT express that enough))
Iwaizumi knows his S/O can be such a sleepy babe
He wants you to be careful where you decide to rest
One time he wondered where you were, as he hasnât found you in your class nor has his friends saw you in lunchÂ
He usually visits you to check up on you, to see if youâre okay, if you got enough sleep, or if you ate
He!! Is!! Concerned!! for !! your wellbeing!!Â
With school ending and no practice today, Iwaizumi was eager to see you and walk you home, maybe even order takeout while watching a movie or something. When he said goodbye to his friends, he grabbed his scarf and jacket, heading to your classroom.
âAh, Iwaizumi-kun.â One of your friends say, seeing him walk through the door and scanning the classroom. âIf youâre looking for (Y/N), we havenât seen them in a while. Last time we did it was the first few classes, then they left.â
Nodding in thanks, Iwaizumi decides to keep texting you, until you answer. But you didnât. Which meant you kept your phone at do not disturb again OR your phone died. Again. You probably used it to listen to the newest podcast and went straight to school without sleeping a wink.Furrowing his brow, he grunted in frustration. âWhere can they be?âÂ
He thought for a moment.Â
âNot in the storage closet, the janitor now locks it cause they kept finding (Y/N) in it. In the locker room? No, I got a text from one (Y/N)âs friends that they didnât go to P.E.â
Then it clicked.
â(Y/N) better not be up there, itâs fucking freezing-âÂ
Speed walking down through the hallways and up the stairs until he reached the rooftop, he slammed open the door and he looked around, circling the entrance, he sighed with relief.Â
You were napping against the back of the entrance building, a fluffy blanket and his hoodie that you were wearing to keep yourself extra warm. Not to mention you also layered his hoodie with his VBC jacket. You were lying in fetus position, your bag serving as a pillow as you snored softly, blanket pulled up to your nose.Â
You look so precious.Â
âSnap out of it, Hajime! They couldâve gotten sick! They canât sleep here any longer!âÂ
Crouching down, he nudges your temple with the curl of his index finger. Heâs not surprised that your skin was cold, the tint of pink on your cheeks and nose tell him how cold your face was.Â
âBaby, wake up.â He speaks quietly, still rubbing the crook of his finger against your temple.Â
Humming as your eyes flutter open, you sneezed, sniffing as you smiled in a daze to your lovely boyfriend. âHallo, Hajime. Whatâre you doing up here?âÂ
He pouted a bit, now his face is tinted red. âIdiot, I was looking for you. You havenât been answering your phone, did your phone die again?âÂ
You snuggled deeper into his jacket, looking so soft and cozy. Your boyfriend is practically dying inside from how cute you are. âMm. I think so? Mânot sure.âÂ
âCâmon, letâs go home. You slept until school was over, dumbie.â He brought his hand close to you, sneaking out from the blanket, your warm hand grab his cold one, and he pulled you up, picking up your bag and then wrapping the fluffy blanket around your body.Â
âWhen we get to your place can we sleep? Youâre so warm, Hajime.â You shift closer to him, snuggling against the crook of his neck.
He chuckled, ruffling your hair despite your annoyed, tired, protests. âOf course we can bubs. But you got to do your homework.âÂ
You hummed again, softly this time. âI did it already. I can give you the answers if it means youâll sleep with me.âÂ
Iwaizumi sputtered, âW-Watch what youâre saying, dumbass! You canât just say that to anyone!âÂ
Hugging him, the fluffy blanket still covering you and engulfing him, you smiled slyly, âThatâs why Iâm saying it to you, babes.âÂ
âIdiot, l-letâs go.â
Eager, arenât ya?âÂ
â...Shut up.âÂ
((Yes. Give me all of Iwaizumi Hajime. Yes. I agree.))
Suna Rintaro x Reader
((Look at him. Â LOOK AT HIM. Icant---))Â
Suna probably either does get enough sleep or he doesnât, thereâs no inbetween
Sometimes he does, cause heâs so tired from practice and collecting blackmail from the Miya twins fight
and there are times he doesnât that you have to pick him up from class cause not even the loudest Miya twin can wake him up
Thatâs cause Suna trained himself to tune out Atsumu HA
But in reality, I feel like Suna is a light sleeper and if you were to wake him up, heâll be like, âWassup, babe?â In the husky ,,, tone,, aARYUFVAOR
He does usually need to find you, cause he does get concerned where you sleep
During gym class, you decided to fall asleep underneath the bleachers. You werenât dead tired, but you had a big exam for three of your classes. Three tests take up a lot of mind power and studying consumes days and nights of good sleep. Â Thankfully, Suna had let you wear his VBC jacket today, cause he knows how cold it can be in the gymnasium.Â
By the time gym class ended, lunch rolled around and Suna had texted you that he was coming over to your homeroom so he can pick you up and eat with him and the twins.Â
Arriving at your classroom, he looks around and sees that you werenât there. Asking your seat mates, they reply to him that they haven't seen you since gym class. Blinking at them, he nodded and left. Pulling out his phone, he checked your snapchat and you posted nothing. Swiping up, he sees that youâre still in school, but it doesnât exactly say where, only that youâre in the Eastside.Â
Gym.Â
Youâre still in the gymnasium.Â
He knew that you were busy studying for the three tests that he came to the conclusion that you didnât get enough sleep, which meant youâre sleeping somewhere in the gym.
Going to your locker cubby, he opened it to see that you havenât even brought lunch with you. Except two juiceboxes. Taking them out, he headed back to his class and picked up his own bento.Â
âWhere ya goinâ Suna? Arenât ya sâppose to eat with (Y/N)?â Osamu asked.Â
âHm. I will. Gotta pickâem up.â He replied.Â
âGood luck findinâ them then.â
âThanks, âSamu.âÂ
Suna casually walked to the gymnasium, taking long stride to get there at a shorter time. (Curse them... and their tallness))  Entering, he decided to call you. Then he heard the small ringtone you set up for him, the âbunny-senpai themeâ something like that. Following the sound of it, he stood in front of the bleachers in confusion. The ringtone was coming from there but you werenât on the bleachers. Walking to the side, he heard the ringing become louder. Peeking from behind, he shone his phone light and saw a figure sitting against the wall.Â
Snorting, he entered into the small cave and sat next to you, seeing as you were about to fall forward, he debated on either recording you fall flat on your face, probably groan and go back to sleep, or, he cannot do that.Â
Being the good boyfriend he is, he placed his hand on your forehead, pulling it gently towards him, having you lean against his shoulder. He decided to take a photo, only for him and your eyes, adding it to his album of you two together. The album was called âFinding (Y/N)â, which was dedicated to you being found in the oddest parts of school and Suna finding you. You were mainly asleep in most of them, since thatâs why he named it after you because of the places you sleep in or on.Â
Last time he found you sleeping on one of the library tables, far back where all the bookshelves hide that table and other forgotten books.Â
Throwing up a peace sign, a certain angle showing both him and you, he captioned it, âUnderneath the bleachers :PâÂ
Somehow the flash of the screen camera made you stir, waking up, you lazily blinked.Â
Suna turned to you, kissing the top of your head. âHey, Sleeping Beauty. Nice nap?âÂ
Sighing, you nuzzled against his shoulder. âSâcold, Rin.â You muttered. Opening his bento, he picked up some meat and popped it into his mouth, talking with his mouth full he replied, âSâcause youâre wearing shorts, babe.â He draped his hand over your exposed legs, patting them softly and then pulling it onto his own. âWhereâs your sweats?âÂ
âMn, Iâunno. Mustâve putâem in the laundry. Or something.â You said, going back to sleep until you sniffed your boyfriendâs lunch. Tired eyes shooting up, you rub your head against Suna. âCan I have please?âÂ
Chewing rice, Suna picked up a piece of spice pork and offered it to you.Â
Taking a bite, you mewled at how good it tastes.Â
âNice hiding place, by the way.âÂ
âThanks, bubba.âÂ

Tendou Satori x Reader
(AUYROVARFOYVARFOY YES,,,, I SIMP AND PIMP ))
OHHH what an energetic boi *cue puppy eyes uwu*
When he sees you napping he finds it sooo cute!!!
He canât help but coo and call you the cutest nicknames for you to wake up too
âPeachâ -Â âJellal to my Erzaâ -Â âBelovedâ -Â âSweetcheeksâ etc etc YUGFOEUYFGOUYEFV I LOVE TENDOU!!!!!
Shiratorizawa is a big schoolÂ
He usually wants you to go straight to your dorm or his dorm so you can nap, but he does want you to text him so he can see you and plop down next to you so you can nap together <3
If he canât nap, heâll read manga next to you be enveloped by your body warmth
When you forget to text him AND youâre not in either dorm, you know heâs gonna f i n d  y o u
out of love, ofc <3
At the end of practice, Tendou headed to his dorm, ready to shower and change into comfier sweats. Opening the door and dropping his bag to the side, he noticed there wasnât a familiar lump on his bed. Shrugging, he took a quick shower and changed into warmer clothing. Drying his hair with a towel, he  sat down on his bed and checked his phone.Â
âAra, (Y/N) isnât in their dorm. Good thing their roomie is there. Time to find my sunshine~!â Standing up, he pocketed his phone and closed his door. He could use the snapchat app, but he always like a challenge. Checking your reoccurring and unusual sleeping spots, he had found that you werenât there at any of them.Â
Humming, he had overheard from your classmates as he passed the hallways that they havenât seen you after lunch. Like the good partner he is, he remembers your schedule. Since you had some of the same breaks, he made sure to drop by and wake you up so you can eat. He does find it worrisome that you like to sleep a lot that you forget to eat sometimes, but he doesnât mind if that means he gets to see you more often! And talking about remembering schedules, he would sometimes pull you out of class so both of you can go into one of your hiding spots and catch up on whatever you wanted to talk about.Â
Tendou loves hearing about your dreams. You tell him you have the weirdest and coolest anime-esque dreams when youâre at a specific place in school, saying it âAwakens your dream eyeâ. He indulges on it, saying that maybe one of your dreams can become a really cool manga idea, so he decided to help you keep your dreams consistent, doing research as in keeping a dream journal to continue the awesome dream you had, most of the time, you have your boyfriend on edge with how detailed your dreams can be.Â
âMy angel, lilâpuppy, light of my life, where can you be?â He sang out at the hallways, passing by students who stayed a bit late to continue their studies or help around the school by cleaning.Â
Stopping for a moment he recalled what your friend said;Â
â(Y/N) probably dozed off again. I havenât seen them since lunch and before that, we had lab.âÂ
Humming a made-up tune, he made his way to the lab reserved for the third-years, and as he slid open the door, he turned on the light and looked around. From checking to the storage closet and underneath the studentâs desks he pouted a bit.Â
A light bulb went off in his redhead.Â
Going to the teacherâs desk and pulling away the swiveled chair, he bent down and smiled.Â
âFound you, (Y/N)-ba~by!âÂ
You were sleeping soundly, your knees pulled up to your chest and Tendouâs VBC jacket being worn as it made you look so much more endearing.Â
âWake up, you hibernating bear. Gotta get up before someone finds us.â He crawled close to you and he cupped his hand on your soft cheek, turning to pinch it. Eliciting a whine, you scrunched your nose and glared with your eyes closed.Â
âOpen your eyes and time to rise! Satori is here to bring you back to your kingdom!â He teased, seeing that you started to stir, but your eyes are still closed. You held out your grabby hands and he pulled you into his arms.Â
âMustâve been a nice dream to have you skip all of your afternoon classes and forget to text me. Why sleep here?â He asks as he smoothed out your hair, you caught his hand and nuzzle your face into his large palm, his heart doing everlasting flips as how adorable you are.Â
âMm, kinda...superhero dream. Sâa redhead antihero. Kinda loâlike you, Satori. Heâs so cool, tryinâ ta change the system.â You replied a bit slurred, your eyelids opening half-way to stare lovingly at him.Â
With his lip wobbling and eyes smiling, he lightly rubbed his nose against yours, âAlways the smooth talker, arenât ya, love?âÂ

Yachi Hitoka x Reader
((SYUFOYVFYYOYV YES I AGREE I LOVE HER I WANNNT HERR IM A GREEDY PERSON OKAY OMG LET ME SIMP IN PEACE JEEZZ)
The pretty girl worries to death
Yachi knows that you donât sleep at night cause youâre too busy gaming
Last time she slept over at your place, she tried her best to stay up for you but she passed out, when she woke up, YOU WERE STILL AWAKE
Finds ways for you to sleep early so she wonât have to find you sleeping in the storage closet beside the folded chairs
Conflicted on not wanting to wake you up or waking you up so you wonât get in trouble
You look so peaceful when youâre sleeping! She really dislike waking you up :(
As practice rolled around, Shimizu-senpai asked Yachi to pick up some more chairs from the storage closet. As she walked there and opened the closet, she heard soft snoring.Â
She should know that it was you, but she was scared to move anything cause she doesnât know exactly where you are sleeping on. Shuffling slowly, she peaked over some of the corners, reaching the blue mats, she saw the tuft of your hair at the opposite end. Climbing onto the mat, she crawled and looked down, seeing that you were sleeping in a cramped space.Â
âHow can (Y/N) be possibly comfortable?âÂ
Your head was leaning against the stacked mats, knees pulled to your chest and arms crossed on your knees. Just as Yachi was about to reach and fix your hair, she squealed when you caught her wrist, pulling it down as her face was closely met with your tired eyes glaring at the person who tried to wake you up. Softening your stare, you smiled kindly, loosening the grip on Yachiâs wrist and kissing it from holding it a bit tight.Â
You were satisfied with the new color plastered on her face, a stuttering mess.Â
â(Y/N)! W-Whatâre you doing s-sleeping here?! Donât you know how cramped it is? And dusty?â She asked, avoiding your gaze.Â
Humming, you rubbed the pad of your thumb against her soft wrist, âMâsitting on a spare towel. Whatâre you doing here?âÂ
âI had to get chairs for practice.âÂ
Groaning, with your other hand, you rubbed your temple. âI missed my last two classes. Damn.âÂ
Yachi pouted cutely, â(Y/N), did you sleep at all?âÂ
âI took a power nap. For five hours. Heh, donât act so mad, buttercup. At least I got to wake up to you.â You flirted, snickering at how redder she became.Â
âD-Donât do that! Iâm trying to be mad at you! You know I worry about your health. An average teenager should try to at least sleep seven or eight hours!âÂ
Sighing, you smiled at her with fondness, âIâm nocturnal, Hitoka. I sleep as much as possible when itâs the daytime. And I know for a fact that a student like you doesnât sleep as much considering all the advanced class work can be a pain in the ass. Wasnât it two nights ago you face timed me at two in the morning cause you were ready to set your homework on fire?â Smirking as you observed her sputtering for an explanation, you raised your hand and held the back of her head.Â
âIâll fix my sleep schedule if you give me daily kisses, how about that? Would you accept my offer, princess?â Your lips ghosted her, you can practically feel how warm her face is.Â
Staring at her, she scrunched her brows and pursed her lips. âI donât mind that proposal.â Yachi whispered.Â
Grinning, you straightened your back as Yachi willingly leaned down to tilt to the right and returned the kiss. Pulling away, you stuck out your tongue between your teeth with a successful smile.Â
âSince youâre awake, can you help me bring some chairs to the gym?âÂ
((Iâm dying. Iâm dying. IM DYING))
Sugawara Koushi x Reader
((This man,,, goddamn,,, angels voice DEVILS WORDS))
Sugawara knows you love to sleep too muchÂ
He wonders if you hibernate in the winter
Makes jokes about you being bear,,, or a catÂ
Would sometimes invite you to his house or go over to your place so he can make sure you eat and remind you to do your homeworkÂ
Babe loves to nap with you after practice!!
Snuggling into all the pillows and blankets you hoardÂ
âI am in the cave of the hibernating honey bearâ
âKoushi, go to sleepâ
Sugawara knows how sleepy you are, so he doesnât mind coming to your place and greeting you with kisses for you to wake up to. Even though practice ended late and Coach Ukai was pushing them a bit harder, Sugawara became a bit energized after showering and walking a bit faster to get to your place. After your first-year together, you decided to copy your house key and give it to him. Arriving to your place, he opened the door and knocked off his shoes, greeting your parent as they told him you were sleeping, as usual.Â
âI was lazy to cook, Sugawara-kun. So, I ordered you guys pizza and burgers. Knowing (Y/N), I know they would complain to me if I havenât bought them fries either. Itâs in the living room, so try to wake up that tired kid oâmine to eat. Went straight to sleep when they came home.â Your parent sighed, shaking their head at your behavior.Â
Sugawara chuckled. âIâll bring them down, donât you worry!â
âIâm positive you will. If itâs you and food, (Y/N) wonât mind at all.âÂ
The teen went up the stairs and opened your door, switching the lights on as his eyes landed to the barricade of blankets and pillows that shifted a bit. Walking closer, he saw the small exposure of your facial features. Tearing away the blankets, he smiled as he leaned in to pepper your face with soft kisses. The apples of your cheeks, forehead, temples, nose, and lastly, your own lips.Â
Stirring, you slowly blinked.Â
âGood evening, Sugar. Did you sleep well?âÂ
You grunted.Â
âCome downstairs, thereâs food!âÂ
Two hands shot out from the blankets as you held onto your boyfriendâs shoulders, pulling him down as he yelped.Â
âKoushi, you canât use food against me. I was sleeping.â You said in a tired voice.Â
He turned to his side to look at you, lifting his finger and tracing your face, cheeks, nose, arch of your nose, and your lips. You took his hand and intertwined his fingers with yours. With half-lidded eyes, you watched underneath your lashes the pink hue on his face, even the mole near his eye was highlighted.Â
âYou have to get up, (Y/N).â âWhy.â
âSo we can eat and watch anime!â
âHmm.â You brought the hand you were holding close to your chest, âBut I wanna stay here and hold you.âÂ
Sugawara can be speechless at how flirtatious and bold you can be, even if it was unintentional. But he knows you, and he knows how to play this game.Â
Shuffling close, you can feel his body heat, âIf you wake up, I can give you some of the answers to the homework. And hand feed you fries.âÂ
Eyes fully awakened, you smiled cheekily, âYou know me so well, Sugarplum.âÂ

"Even if we're far apart, I'll keep singing for you with all my love." Unbalance Shadow - ZOOL
For Haruka from i7 please?
7. âEven if weâre far apart, Iâll keep singing for you with all my love.â Unbalance Shadow - ZOOL from the lyric prompt list! thank you for your request!! i love haruka so so so much, he's my favorite character in i7! >< also! i'm trying a slightly new format that i'll be aplying to my future posts! i'll also start editing the old ones just beause,, yeah i think it looks cute. the colored letters aren't part of the format, but i felt like they fit here so lol on a slightly sadder note, the first draft of this got deleted on accident and i had been sulking about it for a while but lol here we are warnings: gn reader, light hurt/comfort, fluff, long-distance relationships, set sometime in the future of i7's story, though this is pretty much fluff without plot,,, word count: 1623 words
"Up next are Natsume-san and Isumi-san, three minutes!" the voice of a staff member makes him look up from the screen of his phone, where he had been aimlessly scrolling down on his SNS while the hairstylists did his hair.
"Yeah, understood." He answers, putting his phone down on the table as a makeup artist retouches his makeup.
The young idol then walked alongside his unitmate to enter the dark stage, adjusting his in-ear monitor as he sat down on the chair preppared for him beforehand, surrounded by the expectant, excited whispers of the audience who waved their lightsticks in support for their favorite idols. Scanning the audience with his eyes, he clutched his microphone.
The spotlights landed on the two idols as the music started to play and they could hear the cheering of their fans before they quieted down, in order to hear their singing.
"I wandered, lost in my loneliness like a desert without roads."
Haruka Isumi didn't need anyone at his side to be the best, everyone will just drop him the moment the next shiny, newest toy appears in front of them. At least, that's what his experience had taught him.
"There, a single, tiny flower became the melody of love."
Then everything happened. ZOOL happened. But more importantly, you happened.
He, who didn't care for almost anything anymore, became infatuated with you. He fell in love with you, who always looked at him and appreciated him, you, who always supported him and never laughed at him.
"My tears suddenly fell, shaking the green leaves."
You, who helped him through each and every one of his worst moments and were there to laugh with him during his best moments, you, who were both his best friend and his dear, dear lover.
"Wow, 'the weaker you become...'"
You, who always supported him on his dreams and were the first one to congratulate him on everything he achieved.
You, who he was now supporting as you walked to your own dreams.
You, who were walking towards your dreams, far, far away from him.
"(So, don't look back)."
"'...the kinder...'"
You, who he hoped woke up earlier than usual today just to see him singing live even if it was through a computer.
"(Sharing, big love)."
"'...you'll become.' Your gentle warmth taught me that."
You, who taught him everything he knew about romantic love, who showed him that there was more to people than hatred and betrayal. So warm and gentle, you always made him feel like he belonged somewhere.
But you're not next to him, not anymore. Not physically, at least.
But, that's alright. It hurts, it hurts so much and it makes him anxious constantly even if he'd never admit it out loud. But that's alright.
"Like the falling rain, we are not alone."
That's alright, even if it hurts and it brings scary, unwanted thoughts into his mind, it's alright. It's alright, because he knows you're doing what you love just like he is.
And it's alright, because he's not the weak, arrogant crybaby he was when you met. He's stronger now, he has grown up, he's mature. He can handle this. He can keep this going. He can support you without crying every night for your absence.
"Beneath this wide sky, even if you're on the other side of the world, I'm thinking--"
"--of you again today."
It's alright, because he knows you've grown up as well, he knows neither of you is a stupid, oh so stupid and inexperienced highschooler like when you first met. He knows, you both can be stronger than this distance.
"(Unbalance, Unbalance)."
"Look, the crescent moon is beautiful, isn't it?"
He knows this, and still...
He can't help but get worried, sometimes.
"(Unbalance, Unbalance)."
"I want to envelop everything..."
He can't help but worry that you'll get tired of this. Tired of him always being busy, of your schedules never matching, of how he still has to keep you as a secret to protect you from the tabloids and his crazed fans. Worry that you might find someone who has less trouble giving affection, someone who can love you better than him.
Though all his worries wash away, everytime you send him a picture of his newest merchandise that just arrived to your apartment and a cute stamp through RabbitChat at ungodly hours for him, followed by the usual voice note saying 'i love you'.
He knows you have your own fears about it all, as well. But he's told you, over and over again, without ever feeling annoyed, that he only has eyes for you, no matter how many pretty actresses and idols try to snatch him away, the only person he loves in that way is you and only you.
There has never been anyone else but you inside his heart.
You're the only one Haruka wants to spend his whole life with, the only one who can fully understand him and love him.
"...Just as the gentle wind loves the sea..."
And no matter how longer you may have to be apart, how many people you both will meet and how many worries there will be in between before you can next meet again, he wants to and will make sure to remind you daily that he loves you and will love you until he takes his last breath.
"Even if we're far apart, I'll keep singing for you with all my love."
He lifts his gaze to look at the camera with a content sparkle hidden in his eyes, once his next line comes around.
"I wish you--"
("I got a scholarship to finish my college studies overseas, Haruka!" You told him a couple years ago.)
"--happiness."
("I'll be here waiting for you to comeback when you're ready." He called your name that night at the airport, hugging you close before you took off.)
"This seed of happiness that I touched exists to protect the person I love."
("It must be hard for you, isn't it? You don't need to call me every day if you're too tired to do it. I can wait for as long as you need.")
"Our words dissolve in the twilight."
("Nonsense! I... am, tired, but! You must be tired too, right? Get some rest, I'll hang up if you promise you're going to rest too!")
"That seed of happiness that you touched reaches out to someone I don't know."
("I saw that selfie you posted with those two from ainana, I'm so happy to see you really have friends!" "Why did you even doubt that?!" "I worry about you, since I can't see you everyday and all that...")
"Because the circle of love that connects us lights up tomorrow."
("I miss you." "I know, I miss you too." "Let's try to meet during my summer break?" "I already told you, didn't I? I can wait for as long as you need, dummy.")
"Look, it has started to rain."
("Isn't it almost midnight there? Go to sleep." "But I wanna talk more with you..." "You're so hopeless... Go on, sleep, I'm not going anywhere until you sleep." "Hehehe, can I get a lullaby from you before I sleep?" "There's no helping it, right? You really get needy when it's late at night." "But you love anyway, so it works out...~")
"I want to envelop everything, Shadow."
("...Yeah, I love you.")
"Today's live was amazing, Haruka!" Your voice tells him through the phone while he layed down on his bed, late at night in his timezone. "Everyone was so cool, but you were the coolest! The whole time you were on screen I was all like 'Yes this is my boyfriend just look at him go he's so amazing!!!'"
He chuckled at your words, a loving gaze softening his gaze while he listened to your voice.
"I know, right? Praise me more, praise me more~ But only after you tell me, did you sleep early yesterday to wake up early today?"
"I totally did! I wouldn't miss one of your shows if I can help it!"
Though most of the times you couldn't.
He still felt his heartbeat race up at your support.
"You're so cute, did you know that?"
"Eh-? Why tell me that all of a sudden?!"
"Because..." He yawned. "I want to." You went silent for a second, before speaking again.
"You're tired, aren't you? You should go to sleep..."
"No... wanna talk to you more..."
He can already hear your tender smile just from your words alone.
"Go ahead, Haruka. You did well today, you deserve some rest."
"Do I get a lullaby from you to sleep?"
You chuckled.
"Yeah, of course. You are so needy when it's late at night..."
"Like you're one to talk."
"I know, I know."
He smiles, hearing you giggle through the phone.
"I wish I could hold you until you fell asleep right now... But since I can, you'll have to do with me singing my new favorite song for you~"
"'s okay, I like your voice. I'd listen to your voice the whole day if you wanted me to."
"Then... I'll start..." You cleared your throat, and he couldn't help but smile to himself again when he heard the lyrics of his duet song with Minami.
You're not a singer like he is, and you of course haven't trained your voice for as long as he has, he knows that and he still loves the sound of your singing voice.
He drifts off to sleep with your voice as his lullaby, and he knows you both hold true to the lyrics for as long as you need to.
"Even if we're far apart, I'll keep singing for you with all my love...~"

Please allow me to tell you about one of my favourite cartoons through this informal essay I did for school a couple of months back.Â
Gravity Falls and How it Did The Unimaginable
**SPOILERS... KINDA**
The 2010s saw the creation of some of the most iconic animated tv shows ever made, the likes of Adventure Time (2010), Steven Universe (2013), Over the Garden Wall (2014) and The Legend of Korra (2012). To explain why this eraâs shows are so admirable is honestly rather difficult. Yet, there are many factors that can be taken into consideration when looking for an answer.
The past decade was very successful in perfecting their craft and utilizing the animated format to their favour, creating some of the wackiest and fascinating cartoons ever made. With the advancements made in both 2D and 3D animation for film, this bled into the world of TV as well.
To mention that 2010s cartoons have stunning visuals would be an understatement. Everything about the animation was beautiful; the strong colour palettes, the clean and imaginative character designs, the colourful and immersive backgrounds and especially the mesmerizing worlds that can be found within episodes that are half an hour.
This eraâs cartoons also led to a massive shift in storytelling, writing longer-running stories that spread out across seasons while also swapping out episodic adventures for serialization. This heavily aided in the popularization of these shows, due to the rise of internet fandoms and dropping the taboo that cartoons were only for kids. Many shows acknowledged their older viewers by leaving clues and even puzzles to be solved by the theorists who have a large appearance on social media platforms like Reddit, Twitter and Tumblr. As the shows progressed, their fandoms created many theories for what they believed might happen within their favourite series. The top three shows from this era all utilized these changes, being at the forefront of the shift and helping guide the creative vision of 2010s cartoons.
Often regarded as many peopleâs favourite cartoon, Gravity Falls presented one of the best mysteries of the decade with two seasons and only 40 episodes. Inspired by Twin Peaks and The X-Files, itâs considered as the kidsâ version of these two iconic shows as this cartoon acts as many peopleâs first introduction to horror through bright colours and fun characters.
This series follows the adventures of Dipper and Mabel Pines, twins, who are sent to spend their summer with their great-uncle or Grunkle Stan in Gravity Falls, Oregon. This town is full of oddities like supernatural creatures, insane and eccentric inhabitants, and many puzzles. The Pines twins must adjust to the weirdness while uncovering the mysteries and protecting their new town.
While living in Gravity Falls, the twins are forced to work in the Mystery Shack, a tourist trap created by their Grunkle Stan that overcharges unlucky tourists, teaching about fake monsters despite there being real creatures all over town. On his first day in Oregon, Dipper accidentally came across a mysterious journal written by an unknown author that explains all the oddities to be found in this strange town. This book acts like an encyclopedic of the Weird for Dipper, an inquisitive 12-year-old kid who seeks answers.
Dipper is an extremely intelligent kid, his brain being far more developed than his body. Heâs rather awkward and self-conscious as he often stumbles over his words or gets embarrassed trying to talk to girls. Despite this, the boy is an adventurer at heart who just wants to grow up and skip his upcoming teenage years.
While Mabel is quite the opposite in many ways, she is loud and has an in-your-face personality. Mabel is bouncy and fun, she is so excited to start high school. She is easily excitable and for the larger part of the series, she is in her boy-crazy phase. Mabel is a girly-girl as she likes all things; glitter, unicorns, rainbows, partying and crafting. Yet, she doesnât often compare well with many of the other girls in town, they see her as weird and âtoo muchâ.
(In all fairness through, it is not too kind to either of the characters as their personalities are more complex than just awkward nerd and artsy girl-girly.)
Dipper and Mabelâs personalities are very different but somehow, theyâalong with their Gravity Falls familyâmanage to solve mysteries and save the town, multiple times.
Gravity Falls is an honestly genius series that completely changed the way cartoons were made. Originally when writing a series, youâd create a base of your story; characters, the universe and a basic plot. Yet, when creator, Alex Hirsch (who was in his early/mid-20)s and his small team first began constructing their show, they planned out everything they could possibly think of for the first season. Additionally, outlining some answers for their biggest mysteries that would be answered at the end of the series.
Despite being rated TV-Y7, this series really pushed the boundaries of kidsâ television. From the teeth being ripped out of a deerâs mouth by a demon, rearranging the functions of every hole on a manâs face to an aggressive pop-rock sock puppet show that ended in a dramatic slow-motion scene of the puppets burning. Gravity Falls wasnât afraid to get a little weird or creepy. Or create some genuine nightmare fuel.Â
From the beginning, Gravity Falls had built a mystery into its series, hiding secrets and clues all throughout the show. Most notably were the backwards-recorded message and cryptograms, using roughly nine different kinds, even creating two of their own.
The inclusion of cyphers and mysteries for fans to solve is possibly the reason why this series was so successful. As one of the first shows to do something like this, Gravity Falls used social media and internet fandoms to its advantage.
As mentioned earlier, cartoon fans have quite a presence on social media platforms like Twitter and Tumblr. They create theories and share fun ideas about their favourite shows. Viewers of Adventure Time, Gravity Falls and Steven Universe were all included in their share of theory fun.
Sometimes, fan theories end up being correct but when youâre Gravity Falls creator, Alex Hirsch, you donât just watch from the sidelines as your viewers figure out the biggest mystery of your show. No, you create a hoax to get your viewers off your trail and that is what he did. Around 2013, only halfway through the first season of the show, viewers had started to follow the clues, theorizing who was the author is Dipperâs mysterious journal.
Unfortunately for the Gravity Falls production crew, the viewers were rightâ for the sake of readers who have never seen the show, I will not mention who the author was as it would be the biggest spoiler.
In 2013, a supposed leaked image of a tv showing a younger version of the showâs crazy old man character, Old Man McGucket, writing in the infamous journal was uploaded anonymously (by Alex Hirsch) to 4Chan.
Despite the image only being on up for a few hours, it spread like wildfire. Much to the teamâs success, theorists stopped searching for the answer to âwho is the authorâ and just accepted the image of McGucket as the truth.
To further push the fake-out, three words were posted to Alexâs Twitter, âfuming right now.â
The tweet was deleted a few minutes later and fans genuinely believed that someone from the Gravity Falls team had leaked the most important part of the story.
While doing research, I came across a Reddit post from April 10th, 2013, the day after âleak,â Alexâs tweet was uploaded. In this post, user, TheoDW uploaded an image of Alexâs tweet with the caption, âIt seems that Hirsch got mad at last nightâs leak. He already deleted this tweet.â
Seeing the reactions of these Redditors in 2013 is kind of weird and crazy to look at. âHe has every right to be upset. Someone internally released a plot revealing screen shot of series breaking spoiler information,â a deleted Reddit account commented.
âThis is Alex Hirschâs biggest success by far, he spent a huge amount of time carefully planning out the series, and then in a moment someone releases a major spoiler. It would make anyone upset,â the user, Time_Loop commented.
âSeriously, this is a nightmare for a storyteller, and shows a breach of trust. I feel so bad for himâhonestly, I hope whoever did the leak gets caught and appropriate action is taken. You donât fâk with someoneâs story like this. Itâs unprofessional.â the user, lonelybeloved angrily commented.
In 2014, this âleakâ was finally disproven when viewers were given an episode on McGucketâs backstory and an amazing tweet from Alex Hirsch.Â
Alex had post an image of himself playfully pointing at a monitor with the supposed leaked picture with the caption, â1) Make hoax  2) Upload to 4Chan  3) Post angry tweet about "leak" 4) Delete tweet 5) Let internet do restâ
It is so interesting to look at these comments know that all of this was orchestrated by Alex.
I wish I had been old enough at the time to follow theories and fandom stuff like I do now with current cartoons but really looking at this from an outside perspective, this was insane!
The real author wasnât revealed until 2015 and when viewers first got the answer to this biggest show on their screens, they must have freaked out!
Following the finale in 2016, a single frame of a stone version of Bill Cipher, the showâs villain, flashed in after the credits had finished.
Alex Hirsch and his team actually created a real-life statue of their villain for their viewers to find and on July 20th, 2016, the Cipher Hunt began.
By following clues, the Hunters found themselves all over the world; Russia, Japan and then travelling throughout the United States for the final 12 clues. When the hunt took them to Los Angeles, actor, Jason Ritter (voice of Dipper Pines, also a massive fan of the series) and Alex Hirschâs twin sister, Ariel Hirsch (the inspiration for Mabel) joined in the fun helping the search.
Finally, the hunt ended on August 2nd when someone tweeted out an image of the found statue in Oregon, the same state in which the fictional town of Gravity Falls exists. The Cipher Hunt had ended but finding the statue wasnât Alexâs goal for the scavenger hunt, it was about the journey and bringing together the viewers, more than having them actually find the statue.
Creating its own hoax, an international scavenger hunt and quite a bit of nightmare fuel, Gravity Falls was a show truly unlike any other.
The 2010s saw some of the strongest cartoons ever made, Adventure Time, Gravity Falls and Steven Universe acting as the leaders for multiple different changes in the medium; storytelling, worldbuilding, interaction with viewers, utilizing social media, representation and further pushing music into the cartoon world. From what was created this past decade and what has already been released in 2020, Iâm so excited to see what comes next.
I have another one of these which is on Steven Universeâs representation and music if you would like to see that too!!Â

Stark Spangled Banner Masterlist // Main Masterlist
March 2013.
Any doctor would cry if they visited SHIELD; the caffeine and alcohol intake of pretty much every worker there would way exceed a dose construed to be healthy. Mind you, if you asked any agent whether theyâd give up coffee or alcohol, theyâd say alcohol in a heartbeat.
Well, most of them.
Katie couldnât imagine surviving without an ice cold beer on a hot summerâs day, but she also didnât function until she had her morning cup of Joe. It was a tough choice to make.
Not today though, she needed coffee. And lots of it. After âgoing rogueâ to chase the Mandarin with her brother, monthâs later Fury was still pissed and as such was basically giving her the most boring thing he could think of- working through piles of mission reports to analyse and cross reference with others to pick up on common threads .To be honest, she didnât mind it too much. After the excitement of the festive period she had welcomed a relatively quiet return to work, and didnât particularly give a shit what Fury thought about her either.
She circling a part of the hard copy of the report she was working on with highlighter pen, before glancing back at her computer screen to cut and paste it into the Scrapbook App she used to trace trends with, letting out a groan. Who was she kidding? Desk duty sucked ass.
*****
Steveâs morning wasnât going much better.
Whilst he wasnât desk bound, after a particularly gruelling Ops Training session during which one of the newest kids suffered a broken nose after colliding painfully with a stray shock baton, he was almost wishing he was. Following a quick debrief, he checked his schedule on his phone and found he was free now for the rest of the day so he showered and headed up to find Katie. He found her in her office, paper in her hand as she stared at her computer screen, eyes narrowed. Steve watched her for a moment, taking in the way her nose crinkled as she read something, her bottom lip being dragged under her top teeth as she continued her work, completely unaware he was there. With a groan she dropped the notes sheâd been holding to the desk and ran her hand through her dark hair.
Steve felt he was interrupting something, even though he knew he wasnât, but he also didnât want to appear like heâd been watching her either, which he totally had. So he gave a little cough and, as she turned round, her pretty face cracking into a smile which he returned.Â
âHey! How was training?â
âDonât ask.â He let out a snort.
âThat bad huh?â
âIn a fashion.â He nodded, leaning on the door frame. âYou had lunch?â
âNope.â
âWanna come get some?â
She nodded instantly âGod yes. Can we get FroYo after?â
âYeah but donât let me pile it with all that crap this time!â he shot her his best playfully disapproving look as he remembered his first trip the Frozen Yoghurt stall. He had loaded his with all sorts of different things and the result had been beyond foul.
Katie gave a laugh and picked up her jacket, shrugging it on. Standing up straight, he moved to allow her to step through the door and followed her to the elevator.
âStick to chocolate chip, mint and cookie dough.â She said, stepping into it. âTrust me.â
They strode across the foyer and into the early spring sun. Katie pulled her jacket tighter around herself as they crossed the street, shivering a little in the cool breeze.
âHow are you just wearing a shirt?â she looked at Steve as he fell into step besides her, making sure he was on the side nearest the road. He noticed that sheâd long since given up chiding him on this old fashioned habit after he had revealed it was something he used to do for his mom too, and Buckyâs younger sister. In fact, today, he swore he saw something that looked like a soft smile flicker on her lips when he positioned himself on her left, but as quick as he noticed it, it was gone.
âItâs not too bad.â He grinned. âIâve been through worse.â He opened the door to the Deli for her and followed her in as they took their place in the queue. After a moment or two he became aware that she was looking at him.
âWhat?â he asked, turning to her exasperatedly. Katie couldnât help but grin, she enjoyed winding the usually mild mannered man up
âIâm trying to imagine how you would look with a beard. And with shorter hair.â she mused, causing the Captain to roll his eyes.
âNot gonna happen.â
âWhat the hair cut or the beard?â
âNeither.â
âSpoil sport.â
âCaptain America doesnât have a beard.â he shook his head.
âNo but, Steve Rogers couldâŚâ
She was impossible, but Steve couldnât help but want to laugh. This playfulness was the thing that he enjoyed the most, how she could just treat him like any other punk she knew.
âDid anyone ever tell you youâre exhausting?â he rolled his eyes, a smirk playing on his face as she stepped forward in the queue.
âYeah, you.â she spun round to face him, grinning âSeveral times. But you still come back for more.â
âWell I have the distinct impression if I didnât youâd hunt me down anywayâ
They ordered and ate their lunch, Steve filling her in on the ops drill and after Fro-Yo they made arrangements to slob out that evening at his with a film. They walked back to the Triskellion where Katie headed back to her office to continue sifting through the Mount Everest of reports she had to do. As with anything, once she got the bit between her teeth, she completely zoned out. It was only when she heard a gabble of voices all bidding each other goodbye that she looked up from her work. It was dark outside, and past six.
âShit.â she groaned as the realisation washed over her. She was supposed to be at Steveâs for half past. She clicked to save her work whilst calling him at the same time, phone sandwiched between her cheek and shoulder.
âSoâŚIâm running late.â She apologised the instant he answered. He chuckled.
âI thought that you said the one good thing about being confined to desk duties was that you set the hours.â
âYeah, well I got caught up in something, but Iâm leaving now. Do you want me to grab pizza on the way?â
âSounds good, not Chicago Style though. Iâm hankering for a proper piece of pie.â
âGod youâre such a New Yorker.â She rolled her eyes.
âYou say it like itâs a bad thing.â His voice took on a mock hurt tone and she could imagine him pouting on the other end of the phone.
âHmmm, Iâm undecided. Right, Iâm leaving now. See you soon.â
âDrive safe.â
âWhat are you my dad?â she snorted at his stern instruction.
âOld enough to be.â he shot back.
âTouche.â she sniggered, cutting the call
*******
âBoring New York style for Mr S RogersâŚâ she spoke into the intercom at the main door to Steveâs apartment complex and he buzzed her in. By the time sheâd climbed the stairs to his floor he was waiting, leaning on the door frame.
âBout time.â He muttered, taking the boxes off her âWas about to send a search party.â
âMarioâs was packed.â Katie said, kicking off her sneakers and heading straight through to his kitchen to grab a beer out of his fridge without waiting for him to offer, knowing he wouldnât. He didnât need to.Â
Steve headed into the living room, depositing the thee boxes on the coffee table before he sank onto the couch and reached straight in for one of the pepperoni slices. A few moments later Katie flopped down next to him, handing him a beer.
âWhat we ticking off the list tonight?â she asked.
âA Few Good Men.â he said, nodding at the TV where he had queued the movie up ready.
âWait, did you manage to navigate that Android box all by yourself?â She looked at him and he sighed.Â
âIâm not completely useless ya know.â
âJuryâs out.â she teased, curling her legs up onto the sofa next to her.
They watched the movie. Steve got most of the references within it. He chuckled in the right places, and laughed out loud when Katie was unable to stop herself uttering the immortal line You canât handle the truth. When the credits began to roll,  Katie unfolded herself from where she had been sat and they launched into Steveâs favourite part of Movie Nights- the post film analysis.
âWho was the guy who played the colonel, Jessup?â he looked at her.
âJack Nicholson. Amazing actor. Heâs in a few on your list.â
âHe was good. And I know he was supposed to be the good guy so to speak but Kaffee annoyed me a little. He was so arrogant.â
âHe reminds me of Tonyâ Katie sniggered.
âWell, I didnât want to say anythingâ Steve gave a little smirk and Katie shrugged.
âI get what you mean though. He is an ass, and it pisses me off a little the romance angle they take with him and Galloway. I mean, sheâs portrayed as this strong woman, in the male dominated military woman and they still have to go there.â
âIt does seem to be a tried and tested format.â Steve nodded, leaning back against the cushions on his couch âBoy meets girl, boy likes girl, boy wins girl overâŚeven the movies I saw back in before I took a sub-zero nap were the same.â
âI suppose it appeals to the hopeless romantic in all of us.â Katie shrugged.
They continued to chat for a bit longer until Katie glanced at her watch, and seeing the time, decided to call it a night. Steve walked her down to her car, he always did without fail, another thing she had given up chiding him for and when he came back upstairs and got in the shower, he found himself straying back to the first time he had seen her, the minute she had stepped into the light in the boxing gym and heâd found himself looking into the greenest eyes he had ever seen in his life.
The more he stood there in the stream of hot water, thinking about her, the more he started to feel somethingâŚwellâŚdifferent. And he couldnât put his finger on it. Was it that he found her attractive? Well of course he did. To be honest, he reckoned youâd have to be blind not to. And if he was totally honest, since heâd seen her the first time in that little boxing gym in New York he had noticed how pretty she was. She had the figure of the stars of his time. Hour glass waist, brunette hair, shapely ass and legs and quite large breasts considering she was so slim. But what did it for him were her eyes. Deep, sparkling emeralds that he could lose himself in quite happily. And that smile, that fucking smile that could make him stop in his tracks when she flashed it.
But it was more than just that, she wasâŚwellâŚjust Katie.
It was strange, really, she reminded him so much of Peggy in some ways, but in others she was so different. Both were vivacious, smart, strong willed and beautiful. But where Peggy had been harsh, after a military upbringing, Katie had a softer edge to her. She was still ferocious at times, but she was a people person, and somehow knew exactly how to explain and understand what he was trying to say even when he struggled to himself. She made him feel at ease. With that in mind it wasnât surprising they had grown so close. He could trust her and knew that she would do anything for him because she was a good person. And she made it so easy to be around, he didnât feel a shred of awkwardness around her.Â
He hadnât thought heâd ever find himself a friend he could be as honest and open with again, one he would happily lay his life on the line for, not just out of a sense of duty but out of a sense of love and friendship.
Who you trying to kid, Rogers?Â
He knew his feelings went deeper than that. All those times heâd felt irritation at other men looking at her or touching her, all those times heâd looked at her and just wanted to smile because she was just her⌠the fear he had felt when he had known she was off chasing the Mandarin and he wasnât able to helpâŚnone of that was anything to do with mere friendship.Â
He leaned his forehead against the tiles of the shower cubicle and groaned. He was crushing on his best friend.
He was so fucked. *******
Katieâs desk arrest didnât last much longer. Two weeks later she was catapulted back into the field, on what was supposed to be a simple op, simple by SHIELD standards, anyway. They had a request from the Cuban government â all very hush, hush, of course âto take down a drug lord who ran a cartel SHIELD had tangled with last year.
Katie, in her role as Mission Analyst, read the files and all the intel, pulled together a briefing and delivered it, answering questions that came her way from the team and then handed over to Steve when it was his turn to take the floor. He started issuing out his orders, and informed everyone that the three newest recruits would be joining them as it would be a fairly straight forward op to ease them into.
And it had been, for the most part, until one of those new recruits, Jack Adams, had frozen mid fire fight and as a consequence heâd taken three bullets to the chest. Which shouldnât have been an issue given the armour they all wore. But when the man failed to get up, Katie knew there was something very, very wrong.
âAdams is down!â she loudly spoke into her radio as she took aim at the hostile responsible. As soon as she was sure the round she had let off had hit her target, she broke cover to get to Adams, as she was closest to him. She skidded to the floor, pressing her hand to his chest and her other reached to his face, turning it to look at her.
âI got you, Adams, look at me.â she urged gently, her hand warm, wet and slick with the young manâs blood. Steve dropped besides her and she turned to face him.
âArmour piercing rounds.â She shook her head. âSteve, I canât stop the bleeding.â Her tone left the Captain in no doubt as to how worried she was and he looked around frantically for help.
âMedic, NOW! We need emergency evacâŚâ
âStay with us, Jack.â Katie reached into her belt and retrieved a tab of morphine as he young manâs hand gripped her other whilst she administered the pain relief.
âSon, youâre gonna be fine.â Steve spoke and Adamsâ horrified eyes turned to Steve. The soldier swallowed, fighting to keep his face calm. Heâd seen that expression so many times on the battle field, the one that told him the man who lay injured knew he was injured beyond repair, that there was nothing to be done for him. But this was now seventy years into the future, medical science had worked so many wonders since then, they had to be able to do something, right?
âRUMLOW WHERE THE FUCK IS THAT MEDIC?â Katie screamed, her tone frantic.
âStill got hostiles on us!â Rumlow replied over the coms. âEvans has taken four down but theyâre approaching from the right! We need to cover the medics in and now youâre down thereâŚâ
Steve instantly looked round before he looked back at Katie âWeâll have to take him ourselvesâ
She bit her lip, looking at the young man, then up to Steve again. Everything in their training told them not to move casualties, but Steve knew if they stayed here he was going to bleed out. Katie seemed to come to the same conclusion and she nodded.
âAlright. Brock, weâre coming to you. Have the medics prep the bay on the jet.. Evans, we need top cover.â
âRoger, CapâŚâ
âJack, weâre gonna move you now.â Katie looked at him, her voice calm and level as besides her, Steve moved to take the injured man into a lift over his shoulder. Once he had him positioned, he gave a small jerk of his head and Katie picked up his shield in one hand, and her pistol in the other as they broke cover, sprinting across the front of the industrial yard towards the jet. In the corner of his eye, Steve spotted two hostiles moving but before he could shout a warning, Katie had fired off two shots, the thumps and lack of returning fire meaning each bullet had hit its target. Soon they were joined by Rumlow and Rollins who flanked them up the ramp where Katie dropped Steveâs shield to the floor with a clang and offered her hand back to Adams as Steve placed him gently on the stretcher.
âItâs gonna be ok.â Katie soothed him as the medics bustled around, her eyes glancing up every so often to watch what they were doing.
âCan you tell my mom I love her and, and my dad.â Adams was mumbling now and Katie shook her head.
âYou can tell them yourself.â She told him fiercely. âYouâll be fine, I promise.â
âWeâre locked down outside, local authorities are handling it now.â Rumlow informed Steve who had stepped back from where Katie was knelt by the injured man. âHow is he?â
Steve turned to Rumlow, shaking his head sadly. âNot good. He lost a lot of blood.â
At that point Katie suddenly drew back slightly, looking at the hand held in hers, before she glanced at the medic who was sadly shaking his head. Katieâs shoulders slumped as her eyes closed, face screwing up into a pained expression and Steve pinched the bridge of his nose with his thumb and middle finger as he realised that the young man had lost his final fight.
âShit.â Rumlow muttered.
âRadio baseâ Steve turned to Rumlow his voice soft âLetâs get him home.â
*******
Writing mission reports wasnât Katieâs favourite thing to do, but this one was awful. So sheâd treated it like ripping off a band aid, and after a horrific nightâs sleep, sheâd been at the Triskelion early to get it done. As a result it was little after ten am, she was done for the day and was about to head home until she heard a familiar voice.
âEat meâŚeat meâŚâ The voice was accompanied by a bag from her favourite bakery, which was hovering in the space between the door to the office and the frame, before Clint Bartonâs head poked round the side, a grin plastered on his face.
âHey!â She beamed at her friend as he dropped a cup holder containing two coffees and the bag onto her desk before taking a seat, scooting the wheeled chair over the floor towards her.
âHeard you had a rough time of it yesterday so I brought donuts and almond croissants. And coffee.â
âHawkeye, you are a godsend.â Katie smiled, taking a large drink and leaning back, closing her eyes.
âThat the first time youâve lost a man on a mission?â Clint asked.
âOther than Coulson.â she shrugged. âShit, Adams was twenty-three Clint. He had his whole life ahead of him.â
Clint watched as she rubbed at her temple before reaching into the bag and pulling out an almond croissant. She couldnât remember when she had last eaten, it must have at least been before the mission.
âHowâs Cap taken it?â
âOn the outside he seems okay, but I know he blames himself. Keeps saying he shouldnât have taken him.â Katie shrugged âHeâs gone with Fury to see Adamsâ parents. Rather him than me.â
âThis job is hard.â Clint said after a moment or two pause. âWe fight to keep everyone safe, but yâknow, sometimes not everyone makes it. Thing is, if we canât find a way to deal with that, then maybe next time no one gets saved at all.â
âYou mean like Collateral damage?â she snorted, shaking her head.
âNo, I mean that everyone one of us that are out in the field know the risks Nova, hell last year 7 of us took on a horde of Aliens in New York. For hours we fought them, and did any of us give a second thought to our own safety? No, because thatâs what we do.â
His words made sense. She knew they did, but that didnât stop the feeling in her stomach that if she had done her research more, maybe she could have spotted something that would have told them about the armour piercing rounds.
*******
Adamsâ parents already knew he was dead. Fury had the local authorities call ahead, common practice now, but still, Steve found himself sat on their couch, talking, informing them all about their sonâs last moments. They hadnât shouted, hadnât screamed or blamed him. Instead, theyâd thanked him for what he had done and for bringing him back so they could hold a proper burial.
By the time he got back to base, he was exhausted.
âHere.â Fury handed him a glass of scotch from the bottle he had pulled out of his desk. Steve took it, dropping onto one of the sofas at the side of the large office, Fury settling into the other. Steve knew the drink couldnât get him drunk, but he liked the momentary buzz he got that lasted all of sixty seconds post sip, and the comforting burn it gave when he swallowed.
The pair of them sat in silence for a few moments before Fury sat forward, his eye fixed on Steve.
âEver done that before, a death message?â he asked.
âCanât say I have. Wasnât really my job back in the day.â Steve shrugged, undoing his tie and popping the top button of his dress shirt.
âWorst part of the job. Doesnât matter how many times you do it, never gets any easier.â Fury ran his hand over his face, and it struck Steve how tired his boss actually looked.
âYeah, it isnât exactly up there with my favourite thing to do.â Steve rolled his tie up and shoved it into the pocket of his old Army uniform pants.
âHowâs Nova?â Fury asked.
âSheâs upset.â Steve sighed âBut sheâs strong, sheâll be okay. Iâm gonna head over and see how she is later.â
âYou two spend a lot of time together outside of work.â Fury commented, innocently enough but there was something in his tone, something that was almost good natured accusation.
âNot a problem is it, Sir?â Steve asked, keeping his face straight.
âNo, not at all.â Fury said âWhy do you think I partnered you up in the first place? Sheâs a people personâŚâ
âSheâs a good friend.â Steve nodded âWe get on.â
âGlad to hear it.â Fury nodded. There was another momentâs pause before he spoke again. âThereâs going to be a debrief with the Secretary of Defense tomorrow.â
Steve sighed âIf theyâre looking to blame someone, the buck stops with me. I should never have taken the kid.â
âBullshit.â Fury said simply âIâve read the reports. From what they say, he just froze.â
âHe wasnât experienced enough.â
âTaking risks is part of this job. Itâs a dangerous gig.â Fury held his gaze. âIt was a straight forward in and out job Captain. What happened was an accident. A tragic one, but an accident none the less. From the reports, neither you nor Stark could have done any more to save his life.â
Steve shrugged, the words were kind but didnât help him feel any better.
Three glasses of scotch later, Steve shook the directorâs hand and left the office, pulling out his phone. He didnât want to appear like he was checking up on Katie, so he pinged her a text, dressing it up like it was him who needed to see her, which wasnât a complete lie. He did. He was craving the normality she gave him.
Can I come over? I could do with seeing a friendly face
He read it a few times, before deciding it was casual enough before he sent it. The reply was almost instantaneous.
My door is always open for you. And I made Mac and Cheese. Plenty left.
He couldnât help but smile. One of the best things about this new life was the food, and her Mac and Cheese was frankly his favourite thing to eat on the planet.
He changed into a pair of sweats and a hoody, hastily making his way to Katieâs penthouse and the smile she gave him when he walked into her place instantly made him feel at ease.
âHey.â she crossed the space towards him and gave him a hug which he happily melted into, a hug they both needed.
âHow did it go?â she asked, pulling away.
âAs well as can be expected.â He sighed as he followed her into the kitchen, dropping into the stool on the other side of the breakfast bar. âHis mom broke down but they didnât shout or yell.â
Katie flipped the lid off a beer and handed it to him. He took it, with a nod of thanks and pulled a large swig before he rest his hands on the counter, staring at the bottle.
He was brooding and blaming himself, Katie could tell, so she gently lay her hand on his, reaching over the counter.
âIt wasnât your fault Steve.â she spoke softly and he looked at her.
God, she did that all the time, knew what he was thinking. It gave him the unnerving impression that sometimes she could read his mind.
âI should have spotted that shooter.â he shook his head.
âIâm the fucking mission analyst.â she sighed. âI knew from last time those guys were packing, if Iâd done more research, maybe I would have found out about the armour piercing rounds.â
âYou canât seriously blame yourself?â Steveâs frowned.
âWhy not?â she shrugged sadly. Sheâd been over it a million times in her head that day and had come to the same conclusion every time. She should have spotted something, dug further. âI didnât do my job.â
âYes, you did.â he implored, his eyes locking onto hers âYour report clearly set out the layout, the learning from previous missionsâŚAdams was just too inexperienced, I should never have taken him.â
There was a pause as the microwave pinged and Katie turned to look at it.
âYou know, Clint made a good point before.â she reached in for the plate and the smell of the food made his stomach grumble again as she continued âThis job, itâs hard. We fight to keep people safe but not everyone makes it back all the timeâŚand if we canât learn to live with that then maybe next time no one gets saved.â
âIt feels like trading lives.â He took a deep breath as she placed the plate down in front of him âItâs just wrong.â
âI know.â She said, handing him some cutlery and sat down next to him.
âYou eaten?â he asked, looking at her, suddenly aware she didnât have a plate. She nodded.
âCouldnât have waited until now, Iâd have starved to death.â she said, shrugging.
âHardly.â he replied, mouth full, instantly realising he had said the wrong thing as she narrowed her eyes at him.
âIs that a fat joke?â she asked, making him roll his eyes as he swallowed. That hadnât been it at all, he was referring to the fact that she never actually stopped eating, despite her tiny frame she gave him a run for his money.
âNo, thatâs not what I meant. Youâre tiny.â he said, almost choking on his food through his protests.
âSo now youâre making short jokes?â She shot back. Steve looked at her, dismayed she thought he was being mean to her but then he spotted the look in her eyes and rolled his own.
âPunk.â
âJerkâ she shot back.Â
It was the perfect way to escape the trauma and stress of the last few days. Once they had finished eating the two of them flopped down on her large L shape sofa, Steveâs legs extended along one side of the L shape, her legs tucked underneath her as she leaned against his shoulder. He couldnât help but notice the smell of her shampooâŚapple, he thought, along with her perfume. Her proximity was making his head buzz but he wasnât about to move her, the contact was comforting. And it clearly was for her too as about an hour or so into the film- the first in the Lord of The Rings trilogy- he felt her head growing heavy. He glanced down and saw that her eyes were closed and, as he watched, her head slipped slightly. He shifted so that he could catch her gently, and grabbed a cushion from behind him, placing it against his leg. He manoeuvred her head so that she was lay down, gently brushing her hair off her face. She stirred slightly, snuggling down further into the cushion as he absentmindedly rubbed between her shoulder blades as her breathing grew gentle and even.
Steve stayed like that, engrossed in the film right to the end, surprisingly. He had enjoyed it. Katie hadnât woken up, and he looked down debating whether or not to wake her or simply carry her through to her bedroom. In the end he decided to do neither, instead he reached for the remote as he sifted through to find something else to watch. He didnât want to leave just yet, he was too comfy and too at ease. Picking one of his favourites, Casablanca, he settled down, getting himself comfy as he immersed himself in the familiar world of Rickâs CafĂŠ Americain. At one point he felt his eyes growing heavy and he lay his head back, deciding to rest them for just a little whileâŚ
**** Katie was jolted awake, quite violently, and as she jerked into an upright position she saw exactly why. Steve was thrashing in his sleep, his face contorted in horror, small murmurs and whimpers slipping from his plump lips. She placed both her hands on his shoulder and shook him. Softly at first, then a bit stronger, trying to rouse him.
âSteveâŚâ she gave him a harsher shake and his eyes flew open, wide in panic and she reached up to cup his face in her hands. âHey, itâs okay. It was just a dream.â
Her soft voice filled Steveâs senses and, as he realised where he was and whose eyes were looking at him, he took a shaky breath and lay his head back.
Damned it, heâd fallen asleep and had a nightmare. On her sofa.
âSorry,â he said, his voice croaky, âI errâŚâ
âDonât apologise, itâs fine.â Katie shook her head gently âIâll get you a glass of water.â
Whilst she was gone he leaned forward, swinging his legs off the couch so his feet touched the floor, wiping his clammy head with his hands, the memory still flashing through his dream.
Cold air was blasting his hair backâŚthere was a hole in the side of the trainâŚthen a flash of light and Bucky flew straight through the hole. âBUCKYâŚâ he yelled, grabbing onto the side of the train, the bar in one hand as he stretched to reach his friend with the other.
âSteveâŚâ The voice was louder, but not loud enough. No, he had to get to BuckyâŚ
But he was gone, Steve was grasping at nothing but air.
Just a dream, Katie had said. It was anything butâŚ
She appeared back in the room with a glass of water and he thanked her as she passed it to him. He took a large gulp, swallowing and was relieved when his breathing began returning to normal.
âYou ok?â she asked, kindly as her hand gently knotted into his, her concern evident.
âYeah, just a nightmare.â he nodded softly âIâve not had one for a while.â
âUnderstandable with whatâs happened. Wanna tell me what it was about?â
âIt was Bucky.â he swallowed thickly âI was replaying the moment he fell. The moment he plummeted to his death from that Hydra train and I didnât save him.â
Katie stayed silent for a moment before her hand curled round Steveâs shoulder and she pulled him to her, causing him to lay his head on her shoulder. âYou know it wasnât your fault.â
âI should have done moreâ The guilt ate Steve up every day, that he had survived. Why had he deserved that any more than Bucky?
âHow?â she said again. âHow could you have done anymore?â
"I should have gone after him.â he said quietly.
âWhat wouldâve changed if you had?â Katie asked. âThereâs no way he could have survived that fall.â
âHe wouldnât have been there if it wasnât for me.â He replied, "I should have gone after him, brought him home, done something.â
Katie remained quiet, her hand gently running through his hair which was nice, far too nice. He took a deep breath and sat up moving away from her touch.
"What time is it?â
âNearly six in the morningâ Katie glanced at her watch.
âYouâre kidding?â Steve snorted.
âNope. You want some coffee?â she stood up, stretching her arms above her head.
âYeah if thatâs ok.â he replied, following her to the kitchen. From her body language he could tell she was rolling her eyes, even if she wasnât facing him.
âI donât know if your Ma ever told you, but itâs rude to run out on a girl after you spend the night with her.â
âAnd as you know, Iâm useless with women.â he sat down at the barstool on the breakfast bar. He watched her, but he didnât say anything as she bustled about, throwing some bread in the toaster and then went to the fridge for the butter, marmalade and jam, sliding them onto the island. At that point Steve held his hands up.
âYou donât have to-â he started to say, but she silenced him with a glare, similar to the ones Peggy used to give him, the look that could stop him in his tracks it was that stern.
âShut up.â she poured them both a cup of the coffee before adding milk and a spoon of sugar to each, passing one to him. The bread popped up from the toaster, and she put it on a plate before sliding it over to him and adding more bread to the machine.
His stomach rumbled and he gave in, smearing butter over his toast. He eyed the jam curiously. Heâd had marmalade before butâŚ
He looked at Katie and she nodded. âItâs good.â
So he added some, and after a bite he concluded she was right, and nodded in agreement. Once the next round of toast was done she sat next to him.
âSo, when did I fall asleep.â she asked, swallowing her food.
âAbout an hour into the film.â
She shook her head âWhat an assâŚâ
âIt wasnât a problem.â He replied honestly as he took a bite of his breakfast. âTo be honest I enjoyed it.â
âWhat, me drooling on your leg?â
He swallowed, his eyes wide âI meant the film.â
âI know.â she smirked.

DQXI/Octopath Traveler Crossover
Crossover week: Home | 1 | 2 | 3| 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 |
Anyone call for a story idea with just character roles planned but no plot? Oh boy do I have the post for you! Iâve only played through chapter 2 of Octopath but from how things are going I have a few ideas for plotlines⌠on the whole, however, this post outlines each of the characters and their backstories.
Character descriptions under the cut because itâs long! Mentions of a character who's deaf, another character who's trans, and another character with DID.
Iâve been loving Octopath Traveler, but if thereâs one thing I had to nitpick, itâs that thereâs not enough moments woven in between all the characters! Thereâs a âtravel banterâ feature that covers the thinnest bases, where at some points in the game, the option for travel banter will appear on your screen and you can select it to see two characters have a short conversation. You have no choice in which characters talk to which, and you canât go to that chat feature whenever. Also, letâs say youâre doing someoneâs storyline. The other characters donât talk in otherâs cutscenes!
It sort of feels like there are eight games in one when you format the game that way. It's a little⌠disjointed.
Premise: Another fusion fic where the eight characters in Octopath are swapped for the team in DQXI (plus Gemma). Each character can still have their own backstories and subplots, but I am hankering hard for an overarching plot and antagonist. Maybe thereâs, like, an evil League of Villains or some cult. Shouldnât be too hard to find a place to slot that in, right?
Just like in the game, you stick to one characterâs perspective and travel around to pick up the rest of your team, only in this fic, thereâs varying dynamics between all the characters and oh boy itâd be prominent.
Characters
Hâaanit ⥠Elimelech (El)
The Hunter
Born deaf, Elimelech hunts with his wolf companion and a quiver on his back. Despite appearances, El is not one to be underestimated; he is the pride of his village, which has recently celebrated his rite to adulthood. However, with adulthood comes an unexpected discovery, one which spurs him to leave the village in search of answers to his true heritage.
A literal strong, silent type. But has his shy moments, too. I can imagine you having to tap his shoulder to get him to see you talking to him sometimes, and he has this cute, brief look of curiosity on his face⌠đĽş
Similar to how Hâaanit spoke in Middle and Old English, I think sign language would be interpreted the same way in this world. So everyoneâs comprehension of SL is good, signing back⌠maybe not so good.
Animal companion (Sandy but beefed up into a wolf) would help him interact with the world, or at least keep him out of trouble.
Therion ⥠Erik
The Thief
Like the muck wiped off someoneâs shoe, Erikâs not much wanted in most places, but luckily not thought about, either, which helps when heâs stealing coin purses. After a heist goes wrong, heâs tasked with retrieving priceless heirlooms to get back something important.
Does Derk fit well as replacement for Therionâs best buddy? (Sure?)
Therion was apparently well-known despite no one knowing what he looked like. Maybe I can make the opposite work for Erik.
The whole thing with Therion was getting a silver band off his wrist but I still like Erikâs canon plot more, so Iâd find a way to shove that in.
Tressa ⥠Gemma
The Merchant
An ambitious and overly friendly adventure wannabe, Gemma uses an anonymous journal as her guide to the wonderful â and perilous â world beneath her feet.
Original plot for Tressa tracks fine, although wouldnât it be cool if Gemmaâs journal were written by Sudo Nim??
Old Dragon Quest had merchant classes, too. Wonder if thereâs anything in those mechanics I could add to this fic.
Gemma and El hit it off right away and converse excitedly about everything from cuisine to cute boys. Though⌠no one tells Erik, who thinks theyâre crushing on each other. (love triangle that really isnât, haha!)
Cyrus ⥠Rab
The Scholar
Newly retired and looking for a new purpose in life, Rab decides to answer a decade-old mystery. While scholarly work has always been a hobby for him, heâs prepared to get to the bottom of this puzzle and hone his analytical skills in the process.
Definitely NOT following Cyrusâs plotline here
I could still have fired Rab (similar to Cyrus) and claimed workplace discrimination, but I like my alternative: âRab was the head of a royal estate but got bored and âquit,â putting someone else in charge so he could go fart off elsewhere.â
Is Rab related to El in this??? He could be. (Sercretly.)
Alfyn ⥠Sylvia
The Performer
A talented performer with an elusive path, Sylvia has called many places home. Following in the path of a traveler who once changed her life, she sets out to bring smiles to peopleâs faces and avoid the roots of a past that refuses to leave her alone.
Alfyn was last on the list when I was doing matching so sorry Sylv that you got matched with this backstory. But I can adjust it to make it work
Sylvia and Alfyn both have the goal of cheering up sick kids and ya know I think Sylv could learn some healing stuff along the way! Sheâs much more than just a pretty face, you know.
Someone from Sylviaâs path definitely shows up again and that will be trouble for her
Primrose ⥠Jade
The Dancer
Jadeâs patience and sharp mind have sustained her through years of hard living, although it is all worth it when she finds her chance to exact revenge upon those who killed her father.
â Pretty straightforward, can take a lot from Octopathâs plot for this one.
â Hard decision of whether to somehow incorporate this into Hendrikâs storyline or make Jadeâs father and the king Hendrik serves two completely different people
Olberic ⥠Hendrik
The Warrior
An erstwhile knight of a fallen kingdom, Hendrik melts into life in a quiet mountain village until word comes of a former comrade whoâd turned traitor and killed their liege.
Jasper is the traitor, obviously!
As for their slain liege⌠can it really be Carnelian again when thatâs Jadeâs storyline? Like a plot twist that they were both following the same guy this whole time? Probably not. Probably needs to be someone different. Or Carny can just be twice as dead.
Ophilia ⥠Serenica (Serena and Veronica)
The Cleric
A level-headed cleric, Serenica serves the faith alongside her adoptive family. She takes up the torch to fulfil a traditional pilgrimage to rekindle light across the realm.
This one is complicated and Iâm not sure how Iâm going to do it yet
I wanted Veronica and Serena to both inhabit the same body and considered them having Dissociative Identity Disorder. I am very not sure about this. If I do it that way, Iâd want to do it properly, with a sensitivity reader, research, etc. Because being respectful is Cool.
(P.s. There was fanart but someone (me) misplaced the art and never took photos of it???)

Hiya! I had a Top Gun request! Could you maybe right something where the reader barely makes it back from a dangerous mission, and immediately sheâs comforted by Ice, Mac, Goose, kind of all the guys when she gets back? Thank you so much!
Thank you for requesting, and I hope you like it!đđđâ¤
(I've given the reader the call sign Strike, but if you want me to change it, I'm more than happy to do sođđ)
That Was One Close Call.
Top Gun characters x reader

Warnings: violence, in-flight combat

"Can anyone actually see these bogeys yet?" Slider questions through the mics, voice sounding bored, though there is a distinct undertone of confusion running through it.
One by one, the rest of us, Maverick, Goose, Iceman, Arrow (my RIO) and I, deny having seen any other jets in the area, all of us flying in formation as we head to the designated area, eyeing the clear expanse of sky suspiciously as we go, making sure to pick up on any movement at all. Currently, after a good twenty minutes of flying, we've had no sightings, picking nothing up on the radars, our RIOs not spitting anything amiss in the skies around us, our actions now cautious rather than confident. Nerves race through my veins, a feeling I haven't had in months, my fingers tightening minutely around the joystick in my grasp, the jet adjusting in the air accordingly as I accidentally steer it into a different path, sweat coating my brow thanks to the sweltering confines of the cockpit, my breaths short and fast in my mouthpiece.
Just as I go to talk again, a sharp beep interrupts me, my radar having finally picked up on something, a small green dot appearing on the screen, moving rapidly towards us.
"You guys seeing this?" Maverick inquires, having clearly seen the same thing I have.
"Yeah, we got a mig on our six, moving very quickly. They're nearly o-" I go to reply only to cut off abruptly when the controls in front of me start going off, signifying that I'm under missile lock, and in great danger, the jet having closed in on us much faster than we thought it would.
"Get us out of here, Strike! They're right behind us!" Arrow speaks up, voice shrill with fear as the hulking shapes of the enemy jets drop from the sky behind us: eight much faster, more manouverable aircrafts with a higher firepower than ours, putting us at a severe disadvantage.
"I'm trying!" I bite back, annoyed that he didn't spot the bogeys on our tail sooner, having now put us in jeopardy. Gritting my teeth against the pressure forcing us into our seats, I sharply pull our jet around into a tight banking motion, inadvertently putting it into a dizzying barrel roll as I go, aiming to get out of range of their missiles, only to start in surprise and shock when gunfire suddenly pelts the side of plane. Instantly, the left engine starts smoking, the controls going crazy before me, Arrow panickedly contacting with the others, radioing for help from the carrier. Adrenaline starts to kick in, suppressing the terror and panic flooding my mind, prompting me to switch off the affected engine, knowing it will slow us down, but will also prevent us from blowing up too soon, swiftly dragging the hindered aircraft into a tight ascent, praying that I'll make it past them before they can react to me, though I know it's futile.
Yet more gunfire tears into the metal of the exterior of the jet, Arrow's only reaction now being to yell for help, helmet banging against the glass as he looks up to check the damage.
"They hit the canopy! We won't last much longer at this rate!" From my place ahead of him, I can tell he's shifting around very quickly, trying his best to gauge where the bogeys are, though he is struggling considerably, what with the migs flying at a mug faster speed, diving in and out of view, "Maverick, Iceman, where are you?!"
"They're keeping us away from you! We can't get any closer without being shot!" Goose calls back, clearly frustrated.
"Same here. Until we can get past, you're on your own." Iceman agrees grimly, the pilot sounding angry at this turn of events.
"I don't know how long we'll last like this!" I manage out as I drop the nose of the jet into a sudden dive, falling past a few of the attacking bogeys as I go, only to suddenly realise that the right engine has also been hit, the flames petering out. At this revelation, panic explodes within me, my hands instantly pulling at the joystick, trying to flick on the emergency engines to stop us from plummeting to our deaths.
Our speed continues to increase, the jet dropping faster and faster as the sea grows ever closer, Arrow screaming at me to pull up, the aircraft unwilling to shift into a more level track as the momentum carries us down. Unable to think of anything better, I slam on the air brakes, jerking the joystick around to the left, yelping as I'm thrown against the side of my seat. Responding to my actions, the aircraft rolls ungracefully into an untidy barrel roll, the world spinning before our eyes as we finally level out again, the right engine finally giving out completely as we continue to glide along the now ridiculously close ocean. Nausea rises up my throat, but it is overwhelmed by the brief sense of relief, my mood instantly dampened again as the emergency lights continue to blare loudly, notifying me of the imminent danger I'm in. The sound of Slider's voice over the mics cuts through suddenly, though I barely register what is being said due to my concentration being entirely in trying not to lose more altitude.
"We got one down, wait, no, two down!" The RIO informs us, grateful to be the bearer of good news.
Shaken, I don't manage a reply, my focus now completely on the fact that there is a bogey swiftly catching up to us, missiles ready to be released.
"We got our two down, too." Maverick reports, Goose assenting this seconds later.
"We need help!" Arrow finally speaks up, having noticed that I am apparently incapable of saying anything.
"We're on our way!" The others respond, only too happy to help.
Another, more shrill alarm starts ringing in my ears, the tone dreadfully familiar: we're running out of fuel.
"Guys, we're in serious trouble here, we've got to get back soon!" Arrow informs the others, having noticed the same thing as me, checking the gauge with apprehension.
My pulse pounds in my ears, creating a white noise I can barely hear over, dark spots starting to dance at the edge of my vision as I realise the gravity of the situation, tremors going up and down my body as it struggles to remain upright, fingers locked tightly around the joystick.
"...we got another two down, the rest are going home. We need to get back now!" A voice somewhere says, but I don't quite register it, only just managing to keep the jet above the sea line now.
It's only when Arrow places a hand on my shoulder that I snap out of my reverie, instinctually pulling the jet up again, using an uplifting air current to lift us a little higher, back into the safe zone. Wordlessly, I guide the aircraft back to the carrier, only just grazing the runway as I land it, the wires thankfully catching us as we threaten to hurtle over the edge again. I taxi the jet into a stationary position, hands still shaking as I try to unclasp the canopy, fingers fumbling with the security measures, the broken window sliding back as I finally manage it, my body heaving itself out of the cockpit and onto the runway. Once on solid ground (ish) I make it all of three steps, before I collapse to my knees, Arrow instantly at my side.
"Strike? Are you ok? (Y/n)?" The RIO interrogates me, crouching beside me, arm around my shoulders.
"What happened?! " Maverick's concerned voice is loud in my ears as he, Goose, Ice and Slider all rush over, the rest of them having noticed my residence on the floor. Immediately, the four of them are on the floor around me, helmets discarded on the concrete behind them as they start fussing over me. I feel my helmet being taken off, my body being pulled into a larger, more muscular one, the smell of peppermint and sweat clearly belonging to Iceman, a scent which had always made me feel safe, his arms cradling me against his chest as he strokes my back, trying to get a response out of me. When he pulls away, he looks me in the eye, at which point I finally lose it, tears flooding from the corners of my eyes, sobs wracking my body as I bury my face into my hands, barely noticing as Maverick moves closer, whispering sweet nothings as he rubs my back soothingly. Both Goose and Slider sit there a little awkwardly at first, before they swiftly move forwards to help, the former pushing my hair from my face as the latter takes my hand in his, neither of them saying anything, though they have ready smiles for me when I look up at them. When I catch sight of them, a small smile of my own pushes at my lips, the corners quirking up a little, the expression slowly growing as Goose grins at me in relief.
"There she is!" He comments, patting my knee appreciatively, eyes glittering happily.
"I'm gonna have to start calling you The Invincible One at this rate. That was one close call!" Slider jokes, trying to cheer me up with his usual brash humour.
"Suits you." Goose adds, nodding at me.
"No it doesn't." I manage to say, my voice hoarse and rough from my crying, still smiling at them.
"Are you joking? Of course it does!" Slider protests, grin broadening as I laugh. Maverick and Iceman exchange a glance over the top of my head, the former moving to stand up. Looking down at us, he offers me his hand with a smile of his own, easily pulling me up (even if it is with a bit of Iceman's help), steadying me against his chest.
"Come on, you'll feel better after a shower." He says to me, vending over to pick up our helmets from the floor, the others quickly moving to join us as we walk towards the changing rooms. As we walk, Slider wraps his arm around my shoulders, pulling me against his taller body a little, the sense of safety that accompanies this making me feel better about myself. By now, Arrow has already moved to the changing rooms, preferring to face difficulties alone, rather than with us, the RIO clearly trusting the others to do a good job of comforting me, which, of course, they have.

đ series masterlistđ
After the talk with Bakugo, you needed to vent to someone. This was something HUGE and if you didn't start talking you'd go insane.
Quickly scrolling pass your contacts you clicked on your best friends. After a few seconds, their faces popped up on the screen.
"Hey what's up?" Denki asked as he munched on his sandwich. "You usually don't call us unless something happened."
"Is everything alright?" Shoto asked looking at you with concerned eyes.
"Yeah...well..." you sighed feeling frustrated. You didn't know how to even feel, to begin with. Everything was all over the place.
"What is it y/n?" Your other best friend Tenya asked. "Did they catch the one who framed you?"
You shook your head and bit your lip. "No... it's something else. I don't know what to feel...he did seem sincere."
"Wait! Did Midoriya confess to you?!" Denki yelled at the screen causing his co-workers to look at him.
"What?! No!" you quickly said, "He never will do anything of that!"
"You don't know!"
"Anyway...no that's not it. Bakugo...actually asked me if we could talk." you said dropping the bomb right away "And well he said a lot than I had expected him to."
"Good or bad?" Shoto asked.
"It was good...surprisingly. He was quite respectful and didn't yell at me for once...a bit awkward I gotta say." you explained, "He did apologize to me though."
"Wait what? Since when is he not an asshole?" Denki asked.
"I don't know either!" you responded. Taking a deep breath you tried calming down. "But when he spoke. I could even tell...he meant what he said there was nothing behind it. It was just a person apologizing for his behavior."
"What did he tell you exactly?" Tenya asked.
"He started by saying that he was an asshole and shouldn't have acted that way. He judged too quickly without thinking about it since it's never happened before. I understand...then explained that he will make sure the person who ruined the project will be punished immediately. He never meant to yell and hoped that I will accept his apology and if I didn't he would understand." you explained.
"Did you accept his apology?" Shoto asked closing the door to his office.
Your eyes met with each one of your friends. They looked at you silently waiting to hear what your answer would be. After a long pause, you finally spoke.
"I did."
Tenya nodded along with Shoto. Denki however didn't say anything almost as if he had been bothered by your response. You were too kind, to begin with even if the silent treatment did last there was no way you wouldn't say no.
"I'm glad he finally apologized for his mistakes. He did say some bad things though...are you sure you can forgive him for that?" Tenya asked.
You decided to move to a more private part of the building. Luckily mostly everyone was having lunch on the top floor so the garden was empty.
"I realize that it's too early for me to forgive so easily-"
"-yeah it is after all the bullshit he has said to you. Not to mention what happened at the festival." Denki butted in "I saw you two arguing before you even ask and don't try to deny it."
"I'm not trying to deny anything. Yes, we did argue there and the things he said hurt a lot-"
"Then why did you accept his apology?!" he exclaimed.
"Because! This is my workplace and I shouldn't be acting like a high schooler. He is still my boss and not to mention I work with him. Bakugo did say a lot of crap but I'm not going to act immature. That's not right when he's owning up to his mistakes."
"Just because he is owning up to his mistakes doesn't mean he feels sorry." Denki retorted.
"Guys calm down there's no need to fight-" Shoto spoke trying to ease the tension.
"What are you trying to say?" you spoke ignoring Shoto at the moment.
"Maybe he apologized because Abigail is gone and he needs a right hand. He's going to use you!"
"Don't say that! He wouldn't do that to me. Plus I'm working with Midoriya-"
"Why can't you see it? Your little crush on him is making you blind to see shit." he retorted.
"I don't have a crush on him," you said not sure if you were trying to convince yourself of them. There was no way they would believe you.
"You do though. We've been seeing how you're acting. His relationship or whatever he has going on with Abigail is bothering you. It's not good to deny something you know it to be true." Tenya said.
"Shoto tell them I don't have a crush on him." however your friend shook his head and didn't speak.
"See we can all tell. If you're only doing this to be near him then you'll only end up getting hurt again." Denki added. "It's best to be professional and not engage outside of work for the sake of your insanity."
"I gotta go. Midoriya is waiting for me. See you later." you ended the call before anyone else could talk.
After work was finally over you and Midoriya started making your way to the bar. He had been invited by Denki and decided to go there together.
'It's been such a long day...all I want is a drink.' you thought taking off your blazer and setting it down on your lap.
"By the way...you don't have to tell me if you don't want to...but did everything go okay with Bakugo?" he asked keeping his gaze on the road.
"Uh...yeah yeah...he apologized and said he was going to investigate as well about what happened. Bakugo wants there to be no tension especially since we're still working together," you answered looking out the window.
There wasn't traffic surprisingly, only a few cars here and there. It was chilly but you didn't care. Your mind had been cooped up all day with the conversation you had. Part of you was ready to put it behind you while the other side of you knew nothing would change. Bakugo was with Abigail that much was true.
"I'm glad to hear that." he took a turn and kept driving. The music was only background noise, there wasn't anything specific. "I hope after this...things will ease around the group."
"I hope so too," you mumbled.
After a few minutes, you had finally arrived. The bright sign welcomed you making your eyes wince at how the lights shined. Midoriya opened the door allowing you to enter first.
"Thank you," you said making his cheeks turn a slight pink in return. Midoriya walked in after you and kept himself close in case any drunk men tried to talk to you.
He looked at your figure, not in a sexual way but observing you. There was a clear notice about how stressed you were. After you had talked to Bakugo your mood had changed. He asked if there was something wrong however you shook your head and tried changing the subject. At times he wished he were able to find out what happened to you, find a way to make you smile again. It was obvious to his friends how much he had changed after meeting you.
His personality had developed and you made him feel confident and comfortable again. Still, there was no telling how much longer he would be able to go without letting you know how he felt.
âY/n!â a familiar voice yelled out. Your eyes scanned the place to see your pink-haired friend.
âMina?â you said as she walked over to you. âHey.â still confused about her being here.
Mina pulled you into a quick hug and smiled softly. âI hope you donât mind. Denki invited us as well.â
âUs?â you questioned âI didnât know more people were coming. I know he only invited Midoriya-â
âOh...I thought he told you,â she said and you shook your head. Looking straight ahead you see three different bodies sitting at the bar next to Tenya and Shoto. Midoriya had left to go talk to Denki.
âWho else came?â
She was about to answer when a rough voice spoke instead. âI did too.â
âIâll go get you a drink.â you smiled small and gave her a nod. Mina looked at the two of you and left.
âI...um didnât expect you to come. Giving the fight you had with your friends...â you said.
âMina told you?â he asked, âI told her not to say anything.â
âWell...it was unavoidable since you commented on my post wishing them both a happy life. Kinda hard not to talk about...she was practically happy the next day.â you chuckled lightly.
Bakugo smiled small, âI needed to fix it. Thereâs no reason to dislike...sheâs happy and...I need...to try.â
âSheâll appreciate it.â you added, âLittle by little, Iâm sure itâll be okay.â
âYeah.â he rubbed the back of his neck. There was an awkward feeling between you two. Up to now you never have had a true conversation that wasnât about work. Besides the one in the park, you were drunk so there were some things you didnât quite remember.
âCan I ask you something?â you asked.
âWhat is it?â
âD-Did you mean it when you apologized?â you quickly shook your head âI-Iâm not doubting you! I-Itâs just...t-that I want to make sure...because I want things to be okay between us. I want to keep supporting you in anything you need...youâre still technically my boss after all.â
âI hope I didnât mess it up!â you thought.
âI did.â he softly spoke âI-I meant it...and I hope you can sincerely accept my apology. I...also want to...work well...again.â
You broke into a soft smile âI will continue to do my best.â He gave you a soft nod and was about to speak but got interrupted.
âCome over to the bar!â Hanta exclaimed looking at the two of you.
âI guess we should head over,â Bakugo said. You nodded and made your way over to the bar, taking a seat next to Midoriya.
âHereâs your drink,â he said placing it next to you on the wooden table.
âThank you.â you softly smiled and drank some of the mixed drink. There was a slight burn in your throat that felt good.
âAlright! Today there should be no talk about work or anything okay?!â Denki yelled over the background music. âLetâs enjoy tonight!â a small smile formed on your face and raised your cup clinking it against the other ones. He already had a little too many drinks that you could tell.
The music blared louder grabbing their attention. âLetâs go dance!â Mina exclaimed dragging him to the dance floor. He placed his drink down and wrapped his arms around her body making her laugh.
âDo you wanna dance?â Midoriya asked nervously. There was no telling what would happen and if you wanted something to happen. Taking his hand you accepted his offer and followed him. Bakugo sat back watching the scene unfold.
âIâŚhave never danced so I apologize in advance if I step on you,â you admitted making him chuckle.
âDonât worry about it.â he smiled âIâll help guide you. Iâm not an expert but i will try my best to help you learn.â
You nodded softly smiling and followed his lead. The song wasnât fast pace it was more on the calm side. He had his hands resting on your waist and your arms were wrapped around his neck. It was small talk you tried enjoying yourself and focusing on the music. After a long battle with your self, letting loose was the thing you needed the most.
Midoriyaâs heart began to beat loudly. He tried his best to stay calm and enjoy this moment with you, it took all his strength to not kiss you right here and now. It was true he was liking you more than friends and coworkers, this man was falling head over heels for you. Despite knowing what the risk was he wasnât going to let you go.
The song then changed into a louder tone people danced differently. He spun you making you giggle. The lights shined brightly on the two of you, his hand in yours holding it tightly. Your smile grew feeling relaxed and comfortable, the way he made you forget about those uneasy thoughts was incredible.
âI donât know what to tell you, broâŚâ Kirishima spoke, âIt seems like Midoriya isnât backing down either.â
Bakugo looked down at his beer he was already kicking himself for not fixing it earlier. Looking at you made his chest clench again. Abigail was there but he wasnât sure if there was something more or if it was an old feeling being brought up with no meaning.
âI think you should tell her,â he said.
ââŚYou donât know what youâre talking about.â Bakugo mumbled, âYouâre already drunk.â
His friend shook his head âIf you donât accept your feelings now thereâs no telling what will happen. I know nothing is going on with Abigail⌠as much as you want to ignore what you feel, itâs not going away.â
âIs there even a chance you feel the same way?â Bakugo thought running his fingers through his hair creating a messy look. âWhy would she?âŚI donât  blame her if she didnâtâŚâ
All this self-pity was making him upset, since when did he start doing this to himself? It was getting ridiculous if he didn't feel afraid with Abigail why was he nervous around you?
He rubbed the side of his temple, it was too much. Bakugo felt like a teenager all over again he thought this crap would be over but then Abigail happened and things changed.
"What do you have to lose?"
Kirishima was right.
Your mind was filled with happiness. The small drink began to loosen you up and the tension in your body was gone. Midoriya enjoyed himself whenever he was with you, he could tell you were tipsy already but not enough to make any wrong decisions.
The more he kept his eyes on you the easier his heart was falling for you.
His emotions were getting difficult to control all he wanted to do was confess and show you how much better he could be. That's all he wanted and hoped for.
"I love this song," you shouted making him break out into a chuckle. His hands held tightly onto yours making sure not to let go. Your smile was bright and the lights made your (e/c) eyes glow.
As the song was starting to end he spun you around and brought you close to him. With the final melody, he dipped you gently and looked into your eyes.
"I don't know how long I've been able to last," he said. "Now that I have you here...I don't want to hold back y/n."
"Izuku..." you softly spoke.
He looked at your beautiful face and then at your soft lips. His eyes closed, within a second his pair of lips were placed on you.
The kiss was slow yet soft at the same time. It held a lot of emotion and everything he felt you now knew. Your eyes slowly closed as well, then they moved on their own. The noises were being drowned out as your mind eased and focused on only him. There was no reassurance that you felt the same way however you were feeling protected and cared for something that you had long lost a long time ago.
Midoriya then pulled away and lifted you back up slowly without breaking eye contact.
"I know...I-I probably crossed the line." he explained "But I can't keep it a secret any longer." holding you close, his hands held your own. "I like being around you, your smile is the highlight of my day. I don't mind working late or being stuck at the office all day. When I'm with you it feels like a different place. There isn't a guarantee that you like me back that much...but I don't want to keep pretending like I donât have feelings for when itâs true. I like you y/n."
Your heart then dropped. âY/n?â Midoriya asked until he decided to turn around to see his old frenemy standing there.
"Bakugo..."

đđ˘đđĽđ: scouting dilemma đŹđĄđ˘đŠ: hyodo juza/reader đŤđđđ˘đ§đ : sfw đ°đ: 1.7k words
đđ§: guess who was inspired by the 2020 gem heist? wrote a dumb little thing dedicated to all my fallen comrades bc juza wonât come home to them after the reset- sorry to the requests I have yet to fulfill! year 2 ages btw~
This was the moment youâve been waiting for. You managed to save up a massive amount of gems, waiting to be spent on a banner with your best boy in it. For months, your fingers itched to pull but you were loyal (with a few caving exceptions) to the character who got you into the game in the first place.
When the developers finally announced a banner with him in it, an SSR of best boy in a summer outfit no less, it was as if fate decided to tell you now was the moment to splurge strike.
9:58 pm.
Staring at your phone screen, you made sure everything was prepared before you could summon. You decided to do your first pull at 10 pm (his favourite number was 10), and surrounded your phone with a summon circle made entirely out of candies still in their wrappers.
9:59 pm.
You sent your prayers to the gacha gods, counting down the seconds until the clock struck-
10:00 pm.
With a shriek, you nearly ruined your summon circle formation of sweets as you scrambled to your phone, clicking the bright, shiny button that had tempted you endlessly.
âYes, Iâm sure I want to spend! Come home, come home, come homeâŚâ you chanted, unable to decide whether you should close your eyes until the final results or keep them wide open.
Choosing the latter, you gritted your teeth at the sequence of cards arriving.
R, Event R, R, R, Dupe SR, R, R, R, R, Event SR.
Suppressing the scream that wanted to escape your throat, you tried to laugh it off. At least you got two of the event cards Maybe it would have been better to wait until 10:10 pm?
An SNS notification popped up at the top of your screen, and from the little summary, you could tell you were gonna get upset at the contents. Checking the chat, your mutual quickly followed up her message with a screencap of your best boy. Coming home to her.
You quickly sent your response before promptly returning to the game, âasdfghjkl im happy for u but like also muting u rn :â< brb soon hopefully yeet need to retrieve my boi from the gameâs clutches cyaâ
Despite your initial optimism, as the pulls kept going, the lower your gem count, the worse your mood became.
Should⌠should you stop right now? Banner really said no rights to best boy, huh? Sure you were able to fully merge a bunch of SRs and even the event R and SR cards, but not once did he come home? Even his sworn rivalâs initial SSR came home if only to spite you or him or both.
Mentally exhausted, you decided to sleep. Maybe your luck would be better tomorrow?
When you walked into the room with a frown visible on your face, Juza immediately knew something was wrong.
From even before he got together with you, he was always sensitive to the different expressions you made, and by association your emotionsâ to the little smile on your face as you ate desserts together or the eyebrow furrow-pout combo you did when the professor said something you didnât agree with. Heâd never say how fun it was, seeing the different faces youâd make.
However, while those were cute, this just made him worry.
Heâd really rather not fight anyone, but if he has to beat up someoneâŚ
Juza found himself distracted during class, unable to stop himself from constantly looking at you every few minutes. With a faint peach staining his cheeks, he slipped his hand underneath the desk to grasp your own.
â⌠you okay?â he said, voice low and quiet as to not catch anyone elseâs attention. The look on your face turns a little softer, even throwing him a quick smile but he knows you well enough to spot the traces of sadness still present.
You donât reply, squeezing his hand back as you finally tried to pay attention to the professor.
He sighed, slowly releasing your hand from beneath the table. Heâll find a way to make you feel better later, but for now, he had to take notesâ for the both of you, it looked.
Itâs not every day that Juza does most of the talking, but that just so happened to be the case today. Heâs getting restless, stuck between actively wanting to help you out with whatever you needed or just sticking by you and letting you overcome whateverâs troubling you on your own.
Youâll talk when you want to, he knew that, but even still he wanted to be more useful to you. Do you want him to just keep talking to help you take your mind off things? Do you want to rant to him so he can listen? Do you want him to get you something? Heâs not the best at giving advice, but if you needed it heâd do his best.
He doesnât know what to do. Youâre responding to him, but your mind is all the way elsewhere.
The next thing he knew, heâs getting a spoonful of his frozen dessert and pressing it against your lips.
You get startled from your thoughts when a sudden icy temperature meets your mouth. You opened your mouth, cringing slightly at the cool before finally enjoying the shaved ice dessert.
While it wasnât uncommon for Juza to let you taste the food he ate and vice versa, he was usually more reserved, too shy to feed you in public.
âHe must have been worried,â you thought to yourself if he had to do that just to catch your attention. You immediately shifted your thoughts from the game to Juza, already about to apologise for troubling him before he interrupted you.
âWhatâs wrong?â he asked, and even though he had a scowl on his face, he looked at you with tight and worried eyes.
He knew you played games on your phone, but it was still a bit embarrassing to admit that you were upset for such a long duration because of your best boy not coming home. However, Juza deserved to know, so you pushed away your hesitance before explaining the whole fiasco to him.
Juza doesnât get it entirely. Heâs bordering between relief and confusionâ on one hand, at least no one wanted to hurt you or fight you or anything; on the other hand, a 2D guy got you upset?
The concept isnât completely foreign to him, what with Itaru-san and even Settsu constantly gaming, but usually it was his roommate being irritating and gloating while the salaryman got frustrated, eventually passing his phone to Sakuya.
Heâs honestly shell-shocked that youâre upset, so even though he doesnât understand why itâs such a big deal heâll do what he can to make you feel better. Heâs not the best at comforting people, he can never find the right words⌠but heâs good at listening.
He placed his hand on top of yours, grateful you donât point it out verbally or he might actually combust. He can only hope the two of you are seated secluded enough that no one comes by.
Somethingâs starting to bother him though. The more he listens to you, the more heâs conflictedâ if youâre dedicating that much of your⌠gems (?) to this guy he gets why youâre upset. Another part of him wonders whatâs so great about this specific guy.
Heâs not upset nor is he jealous, heâs just⌠figuring out what specific traits you like in this guy. For future reference. Who knew, maybe heâd get to play a role similar to the character you like so much?
âWhy do you like him so much, anyway?â He asked, staring intently at you.
Your attitude quickly changed from being upset to being excited to talk about your favourite character.
âHeâs just so kind and thoughtful! A total gap moe, you wouldnât expect him to be so family-oriented because of his appearance but he totally is!â you began, barely catching a break to breathe before continuing on, âplus he didnât start off as the strongest? But heâs constantly trying his best you just want to root for him and care for him?â
Unexpectedly, Juza finds himself a little flustered, though heâs unsure of why when youâre only describing a character. Perhaps it was the look on your face while you talked?
âPlus, he looks a lot like you! Obviously, I need him to come home, right?â you exclaimed, hitting him straight in the heart with your crinkled eyes and a beautiful smile.
The hand that was comforting you a while ago and gently rubbing patterns onto your skin stilled. You noticed right away, hoping you didnât say anything too weird during your rant.
âJuza?â
Heâs silent for a while, unsure of what to do and ultimately deciding to say the first thing that popped up in his head.
â⌠then whyâd you need him to come home if Iâm already-â
When he heard you squeal he stopped himself from continuing whatever he was going to say. Did you hear him? Dumb question, of course, you did!
You covered your face with your hands, unsuccessfully hiding the strawberry red colouring your face, and screamed internally. You canât see how Juza is reacting but you just heard a bang on the table?
âJuza? Who told you to- istg Iâll have you arrested for-â
After a few moments, youâre the one who ultimately breaks the silence, knowing neither of you had enough will to point out the warm flecks that still remained on both of your faces.
âWe should get going. Our class is all the way in another building,â you said, slowly standing up from your seat.
â⌠âkay.â
Youâre not holding hands while walking, but if he noticed the frequency of your hand grazing his he doesnât let you know.
Reaching the midpoint between your classroom and his, you turn to face him before splitting off in the hallway. You look to see if the coast was clear, and to Juzaâs surprise, you enveloped him into a warm embrace, quick but heartfelt. Neither of you saw each otherâs expressions, but Juza wondered if your heart raced just as fast as his did.
âThank you for making me feel better⌠I love you,â you whisper the last part, before untangling yourself from him and speed walking away to your classroom. You miss the way Juza looks back at you, body frozen but face a mixture of shock and longing and love.

Hi! May I please have an emergency scenario with Kirishima? I lost my mom recently in an accident and Iâm devastated because we were very close and it was out of nowhere. I want Kiri to comfort a reader who went through the same thing, if thatâs okay with you. It would mean so much to me if you did, so thank you â¤ď¸
I am so sorry, you have my deepest and greatest condolences. nothing in the world can bring her back, but I hope that her spirit lives on in you and with you and you can see this as a moment to know that she loves you and will forever watch on. I have not experienced death within my family, I have all my abuelos, tias and tios, cousins, parents and siblings, so I hope that I capture that essence still.
triggering topics - family death
pairing: kirishima eijirou x reader
warning: angst, family death, cursing
a/n: i did this on my phone sorry for weird formatting
~
The phone in your hand clattered to the table as the words of the operator say heavy in your ears.
It wasnât true, there was no way itâs true.
âY/l/n-san?â
âYes, that is me?â
â...there is no easy way to say this, but your mother was involved in a car accident... I regret to inform you that we were unable to save her, and that she passed away just a few moments ago.â
âW-What?!â
You had spent the next thirty minutes mindlessly rambling to the phone operator, insisting that they check again. It had to be a mistake. It couldnât be real. You had dropped your phone as you pressed your palms to your temples.
Your mother was dead... you had seen her just the day before, the two of you planning on watching what would be only the worst movie to grace the screens in cinematic history for the memories. You thought of her birthday that would be approaching, yours that was nearing, and the multitude of holidays that you would no longer have her at. Then you felt yourself spiraling as you thought of your wedding should you have one would be without, of how your future children never meeting their grandmother.
Your chest heaved as ice and fire boiled in your chest, you could barely focus on the area around you as your breathing became shallow gasps. Gasps that wouldnât fill you with oxygen as you grasped the table, trying to will yourself to live as your mental barriers came down.
It then dawned on you that were alone without your mom.
âY/n?â
You didnât even turn towards the voice that normally made your day as you wheezed on your chair, your chest was corrosive as you let out a strangled sob.
âBaby, are you okay?â Kirishima asks, his voice seeming worlds away as shaggy and sweat filled red hair sat before you. Your eyes locked in on red eyes that swam with concern and worry, his hands brushing the hair out of your face as he asks again, âWhatâs wrong? What happened?!â
âM-My mom!â You choked out as tears poured down your face.
âWhat did your mom do?â Kirishima asks trying to keep the tears from dripping down your face.
âItâs not like that!â You wail, curling into yourself as you feel like a helpless child again.
âThen what happened, baby?â He tries again, soothing you as best as he can with minimal information.
Instead of answering, your arms pull in your sweaty boyfriend as you hold him close. You needed physical contact, a reminder that someone you cared for was alive and well.
âIâm sorry if I smell,â he apologizes as his large and warm hands gently strokes your back, his tone trying not to give in to his desperation to be let in on your turmoil.
It took longer than Kirishima liked, but felt like an eternity until your sobs became muffled sniffles and hiccups.
âMy mom... she passed away...â you manage to whimper out as all the energy within you seems to vanish on spot. It hurt still, but it seemed at the moment you had no more tears left.
âY/n!â Kirishima yelped as he shifted in your arms, be tried adjusting to hold you in a better coddling position, and you let him given your lack of energy. âBaby! Shit... Iâm so... fuck, Iâm so sorry!â
You sniffle loudly as your head tucks against his chest as you let out a dry sob.
Death was natural, you knew it, but why did it have to be so cruel?
âI just... how c-could this happen to me? To her?! M-My mom was the best person I k-knew and now sheâs gone! Iâm not old enough to even be prepared for that! I didnât get to say goodbye, I never got the chance to go to the hospital because she died before they arrived, and I forgot to fucking...â you heave as tears return to your eyes, it seemed there were some left. âI didnât even call her this morning because I was too fucking lazy.â
Kirishima was quiet for a bit, his eyes looking down as his face twisted.
âIâm sorry,â you whisper as the silence stretches for too long of a time, but Kirishimaâs eyes fly open. His red eyes wide in panic as he shakes his head.
âNo! Sorry! I was just... I needed to gather my thoughts because this isnât an easy subject,â Kirishima apologizes as he presses a kiss to your temple. âDeath is so fucked up... I wish I could say that itâs a natural thing and that everyone experiences it, but thats just so... insensitive I think. Your mother was a kind, amazing, and amazing person and she was taken away too soon, and thereâs nothing I can say or do to replace that. I am so so sorry that you have to go through his process before youâre ready to say goodbye, y/n. People who we love and care about leave parts of themselves in us, and itâs a space we canât refill when theyâre gone. Yes, they can be covered up, forgotten, ignored, but they still are there.
But I think that itâs also a good thing. You have a piece of your mother within you forever. It wonât be filled up, no one can ever replace it, but your mom left such an amazing piece of her in you. Look at yourself, youâre strong, beautiful, intelligent, and hardworking! You are what your mother intended you to be and so much more! Iâm not trying to say to live for her, because you need to live for yourself, but know that you represent her daily. She is with you dead or alive. I really am sorry that I canât do or say more... Iâm not that great with words, Iâm so sorry,â Kirishima lowers his head in embarrassment and in recognition of your deflated status. âBut feel free to cry, scream, yell and be angry at the word! Itâs okay to be mad and upset and donât you dare listen to anyone who tell you differently. Iâll be here for you through it all to make sure you end this in good health. I will make sure you leave this in a safe piece, no matter how long it takes.â
Your eyes stared at your boyfriend whoâs cheeks were identical in color to his hair and eyes. A small hiccup escaped your lips as you bit your lower lip, âThank you, Ei.â
âI love you, y/n, Iâll get you through this no matter what.â
Tears dripped from your cheeks as you shook your head, you definitely didnât feel better but this was a start to a long journey of recovery. âI love you too, but this is why youâre my favorite hero...â

Hi ^-^ I don't really know how headcanons work, but, maybe a Claes Bang x newbie actress!reader? I think it could be interesting :) Have a good evening ^-^
Good evening! I hope youâve enjoyed the day!
I was actually thinking about this earlier, coincidentally so letâs just dive right in! ((Also yes this is pretty much the format I was thinking. Should you feel the need to ask for some different AUs, feel free to be a little more specific â¤ď¸)) possible
So this is your first big role
Pretty much your big break
Itâs a movie with Claes, similar to the film The Babysitters (if youâre familiar with that film, ily) in which Claesâ character and your character start a scandalous affair.
The first day that you meet, there is immediate chemistry. Claes is doing his best to make you feel comfortable and he feels like he isnât because youâre kind of quiet and awkward and clearly very nervous. But youâre smiling at him all the same, somehow charming him despite your negative energy
Anyway, so the scene starts and... you transform into a new person. Itâs just a basic rundown of what youâve read so far of the script, youâre not even on the set, but you embody your character so well that it kind of catches him off guard
Heâs immediately smitten with you
Whenever you are in scenes together, most of the crew are in awe at the way your chemistry gives the scene so much life.
Because itâs a romance, thereâs a lot of lingering touches and things like that early on in filming. However, Claes begins to engage in doing them off-camera as well as on.
He often comes into your trailer to tell you how well you performed, and on the first day of filming, he brought you the biggest bouquet of flowers youâd ever seen.
Like
H U G E
Heâs literally like the heart eyes emoji every single time you walk into a room
And whenever you do walk in, heâs by your side to talk to you about the scenes you were doing, asking if you sleep well, if youâd eaten enough, making sure you were ok.
And the crew is totally sick of his obvious smitten-ness with you. Every time you leave a room, his eyes linger on you. When he walks in in the morning he asks if youâre already there.
Heâs enchanted by you.
Youâre this young woman, your big break, and youâre just phenomenal at what you do.
He thinks so highly of you but it soon becomes apparent that you donât think quite as well of yourself as he does.
Which means he praises you even more
Cue your first kiss scene - about 14 days into filming
(Youâve known him for a few months now due to having to run through scenes before and after amendments, get to know each other, work on promotion pictures, etc)
It happens kind of quickly, and itâs a passionate moment between the two characters
Claesâ character is meant to push yours up against the counter, take absolute control of her
And Claes is kind of nervous because itâs you
And youâre... a mess
Youâre not ready to start acting this intensely, after all, youâd only been doing ads and little pieces on TV for years
Claes can see your nerves but you push through
And holy moly he kind of forgot that it was only a scene and he was meant to be acting
He canât believe he gets to kiss you and you literally bruise from how hard he slams you against the counter
His lips fit yours perfectly and you melt into him
After all, it was kind of a dream come true for you - kissing Claes Bang
His hands are on your face, your fingers are through his hair, your legs wrap around his waist and despite it not even being in the script, the director doesnât stop you
After the scene, he awkwardly apologised for hurting you
And he doesnât stop thinking about the kiss for days - it keeps him awake
And the next day he invites you out to get a coffee
Which happens the next day
And the day after
And the day after
Until itâs routine to just take a stroll to the local coffee shop, sit down and talk like normal humans for half an hour or so.
Itâs nice being in his company and as you begin to open up to him, Claes finds himself falling harder for you
So a few weeks go by after this and even though youâre receiving all of this praise from the crew, your co-stars and of course Claes, youâre seriously doubting yourself.
After all, youâre only a new actress, you couldnât possibly give a performance as well as Claes does.
You feel as though everything youâve recorded up until now just isnât good enough for the big screen
And one night after filming quite an angry and angsty scene, your emotions get the better of you.
Claes overhears you speaking with the director - you want to drop out of the project.
Absolutely no way
Over his dead body are you leaving
He always enjoyed coming to work because he knew that heâd get to see you
And because your scenes had become more passionate and even if it was artificial, the way you treated him in your scenes was kind of like a dream come true for him
He didnât want to do this film with anyone else
So when you leave the directorâs office, he quite literally steals you away, pulling you into one of the sets
âYou donât seriously doubt yourself that much do you? You donât want to give up on something youâre already perfect at?â
âIâm not perfect, Claes. How could I even think for a second that my acting was able to match yours? Itâs like an amateur football player going up against David Beckham and expecting to win.â
âYou are literally one of the best actresses Iâve had the pleasure of starring with. You cannot walk out on us - on me - like this!â
He may just lose his patience with you when you keep taking down about yourself
He may bring his hands up to your face, forcing you to look up at him
âYou are perfect for this roleâ it comes out as a whisper
And then youâre kissing
Not an acting kiss, but a real kiss
With real feelings
And it feels so good
And
Oh my god youâre kissing Claes Bang!
Thank god this part of the set has a bed
Because one thing leads to another
And when the lighting crew comes in in the morning to start getting ready, they find you and Claes tangled up in the sheets
You decide to stay and work on the film
But it becomes hard to concentrate, because youâre not really acting
Youâre just speaking lines that youâre given
And thatâs how you won all of the awards that year
Because it was just you and Claes, the chemistry flowing between you and the fake words
But the âI love youâs were all meant from the bottom of your hearts
And at all the red carpets, Claes holds you so close
People are in pandemonium speculating on your relationship status
Just to tease, you never confirm anything
But you stand each other on podiums so high every time someone asks your opinion on the other
Itâs not until Claes starts to get a little bugged with the âare you datingâ repetitions from the interviewers a few weeks later that he snaps again
Live TV
Halfway through your interview, as youâre being asked about him and your relationship and the film
He strides out onto the stage
The crowd bursts into applaud but heâs looking right at you
You freeze up and suddenly, heâs tugged you right out of your chair and heâs kissing you!
There is a thunderous noise of screams and whistles and clapping from the audience
The interviewer canât believe what has just happened
Claes claims you as his own, telling you for the first time without a script that he does, in fact, love you.

I was tagged by @wangxianbunnydoodles (oh my, this is long and you might regret it; also I donât follow instructions well đ). I tend not to be very good at these things (sorry to anyone else who has tagged me in these kinds of things beforeâthis is a rare event happening mostly because I wanna talk about Tolkien books and ships) but here goes:
Top 3 Ships
I donât actively ship characters that often. Iâm not sure why that is. I do enjoy reading fic with pairings either canon or not, but I donât often go âall inâ on ships in most narratives I consume. There are notable exceptions (more than three but these are the three most recentâI have no idea how to identify my top ships):
WangXian (CQL). This is surely obvious from the current state of my blog, right? I blame The Untamed and its impossibly tender, only-subtextual-by-a-hairâs-breadth romance. I donât think Iâve ever seen a show express ultimate devotion, deep affection, true appreciation, complete understanding (eventually), and the sheer *necessity of the other* between two people quite like this one has. Hell, I donât think Iâve ever seen two characters and desperately wanted them together and happy as much as I have these two, so bravo to the cast and crew for generating such second-hand devotion in me.
Silvergifting (Tolkien). This is all @thearrogantemuâs fault. Iâd read some Silvergifting before I read These Gifts That You Have Given Me, mostly out of curiosity (some good stuff, too!), but I had never read any Tolkien fic that convinced me it was *true* (on many, many levels, though the ship level is the one pertinent to this post). In any canon-like universe this ship hurts, but in the Gifts universe it hurts the most; it hurts like Hell. It hurts in the way only razor-sharp, sorry-the-universe-works-this-way, oh-are-those-my-entrails-on-the-floor-I-didnât-even-feel-the-knife tragedy can hurt. And itâs so convincing that itâs just...a fact now. Tolkien just forgot to tell us. So now I ship Silvergifting, but most deeply, specifically THAT Silvergifting. (Meanwhile, 14 year old me continues to look at *significantly* older me like Iâm insane.)
ZeLink (Legend of Zelda). Deep down Iâm still 12 years old and no amount of fine lines and wrinkles is going to change that. When is Breath of the Wild 2 coming out?
Last Song
I listen to soundtracks and bombastic and dramatic orchestral pieces much more often than I listen to what people mean when they say âsongs,â and a significant chunk of the âsongsâ I listen to are from musicals/operas.
Earlier today it was Hanz Zimmerâs soundtrack to Dark Phoenix (donât start me up on the continuing disappointment that Phoenix adaptations continue to be to meâyou donât want to hear it; even I donât want to hear it).
Before that it was Barbra Streisandâs The Broadway Album. (I prefer her outer space cover of âSomewhereâ to the actual thing. Fight me.)
Before that it was Carmina Burana (One of my favorite things ever was when we went to a live performance of Carmina Burana and a boy who couldnât have been more than 7 years old sat in the aisle in front of us and head-banged enthusiastically through âO Fortuna.â It was so metal. You go, kid. You get it.).
Before that it was a splattering of Billy Joel hits with emphasis on â2000 Yearsâ, âRiver of Dreamsâ, âScenes from an Italian Restaurantâ, âThe Strangerâ, and âOnly the Good Die Youngâ (thanks to that outstanding WangXian interpretation!).
Of course the soundtracks to The Untamed/CQL have been on repeat for weeks around here, particularly every single iteration of âWuJiâ and the flute-heavy instrumental pieces (man, those are good!).
Not long ago I had Sarah Brightmanâs covers of âFiglio Perdutoâ from La Luna and âGlosoliâ and âOne Day Like Thisâ from Dreamchaser burning through my iPhone battery (yes, I like popera).
Enya, and especially Shepherd Moons and The Track Which Shall Not Be Named has been on repeat a lot.
Last Movie
I donât sit down to watch movies that often any more. It just takes too much stillness and undivided attention and more resistance to multi-tasking than I have. The actual last movie that I watched (in a âhave it on on another screen while I workâ kind of way) was Raiders of the Lost Ark, which, of course, Iâve seen umpteen times and which followed a similar rewatch of the Back to the Future trilogy. The last movie I watched completely without distraction was Book Smart; I donât watch comedies very often, but I really enjoyed it in an âOMG, I can totally relate to thisâ kind of way (except for the class president thingâthat would have required that I interact with other people my own age and also not be homeschooled). Before that I think it was the Tolkien biopic. Man, I still havenât written anything about that.
Currently Reading (in order of when I started them)
Oh dear.
The Familiar: part 1, Mark Z Danielewski. *sigh* For as much as I think Danielewski is brilliant and House of Leaves is one of my favorite books ever, Iâve just not been able to get into much of his other work. Itâs universally a time and energy investment to penetrate and puzzle through, and I just donât have as much of that as I used to. House of Leaves makes that investment worth it from early on and is absolutely a page-turner once you settle in, but other than The Fifty Year Sword Iâve just not been able to get into the rest of his work. The Familiar: part 1 is supposed to be the first in a 26 part series which is currently halted at part 4, I think. Without a guarantee of all parts ever being published, I donât think Iâm ready to invest more time into part 1 and may end up abandoning it, unfortunately.
History of The Hobbit, Douglas Anderson. Anderson did what Christopher didnât and gave The Hobbit the HoMe treatment (if a bit less literal and opaque in format). Itâs fascinating (I mean, thereâs the Beren and Luthien name drop you were not expecting right there in the first draft), but reading essentially the same passages with only small changes over and over can be a slog, so reading it has been an ongoing project for over a year now.
Splintered Light: Logos and Language in Tolkienâs World, Verlyn Fleiger. This is Fleigerâs look at Tolkienâs Middle-earth in light of his association with Owen Barfield. Particularly, she is examining Tolkienâs work in conjunction with Barfieldâs Poetic Diction and his thoughts on language and meaning. I have not read Poetic Diction, but I probably will now since it apparently addresses language formation as related to the origin of human consciousness which is SO up my alley.
New Seeds of Contemplation, Thomas Merton. My late sister-in-law had a masters in theology from Notre Dame and became a huge Merton fan. Meanwhile, my best friend actually spent a weekend retreat at The Abbey of Gethsemani. Between hearing about him from the two of them, I developed an interest in Merton. I happened to read âMoral Theology of the Devilâ a couple of years ago. It was one of the most illuminating theological things I have read and deeply inspired my own Tolkien fic-writing (letâs just say the progress there is otherwise slow). This book is a collection of pieces which happens to contain that piece, and Iâve been skipping around through it for a while now.
The Lord of the Rings reread (Tolkien, obviously). I hate this, but I am so deep in so many critical Tolkien books that Iâve not had the chance to really sit down and relax into my reread for months and months and will likely just end up starting over. Plus I want to read it concurrently with the next entry in this list and the next entry is taking longer to get through because of its format. That entry being:
The Lord of the the Rings: A Readerâs Companion, Hammond and Scull. This is a treasure trove of data and insights for those really wanting to dig critically-historically into The Lord of the Rings on a chapter-by-chapter, passage-by-passage basis. The only issue with it is that jumping back and forth between the two (as you have to: this is a reference book) tends to kill the mood of The Lord of the Rings when read as itâs meant to be read: for enjoyment!
The Power of Limits: Proportional Harmonies in Nature, Art, and Architecture, Gyorgy Doczi. This has been an ongoing read here and there since Christmas, especially as I work on two personal projects.
The Gospel in a Pluralist Society, Lesslie Newbigin. To be honest I donât think I am going to finish this one. I like a few of the things he says, things I think are truthful and which need to be confronted in American Christian culture in particular, but itâs just too much Calvin for my taste, too many assumptions I do not share being the heretic that I am, and I spend too much time anger-notating about theology to read it with grace.
In Full Measure I Return to You, thearrogantemu. This is a reread of the (relatively) happy AU fic for my most favoritest Tolkien fic (Gifts), but Iâve put my reread on hold while I finish one of the two projects, after which I am diving in and screw the rest of this list for the time being.
Food Craving
Sushi. My kingdom for some good sushi. Iâve only had sushi once since we got back from NY and while it was the best sushi I have had locally IT WAS NOT OMAKASE AT SUSHI NOZ. It also didnât require a personal loan to pay for, but *shrug* Iâm spoiled now and will forever crave what I can no longer have.
People Iâd Like To Get To Know Better
I hate tagging people in these things because Iâm awkward and shy and do them so rarely myself that it feels hypocritical for me to ask it of others. That being said: if youâre a follower of my blog and you want to do this, please do! And please tag me! Iâd love to get to know more about you đ.
