How to Know Allah
Know Allah by His Names and Attributes
Surah Al-Hashr
youtube
How to know Allah?
How do we get to know Allah? Imam ibn Rajab writes
“In the Qur’an, Allah, Exalted is He, invites people to acquire ma’rifah; or knowledge and gnosis [of Him], via two ways: Firstly, by reflecting upon the divine handiwork [in creation]; and secondly, by contemplating over the Qur’an and pondering over its meanings.
The former are His signs that are seen and witnessed, the latter are His signs which are heard and understood. “The first type is referred to in His saying: “In the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and day; in the sailing of ships through the ocean for the benefit of mankind; in the water that Allah sends down from the sky and with which He revives the earth after its death; in the animals of all kinds that He has scattered therein; in the ordering of the winds and the clouds that are driven between heaven and earth, are signs for people who can think”. [4]
And His words: “In the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the alternation of the night and day, are signs for those of understanding”. [5] Verses like these occur frequently in the Qur’an.The second is referred to in His saying: “Will they not reflect on the Qur’an?” [6] As well as: “Do they not reflect about what is being said?” [7] And: This is a Book that We have sent down to you, full of blessings, that they may reflect over its signs”. [8] Such verses also occur frequently.”
Thus Imam Ibn al-Qayyim shows two ways to know Allah- pondering on His creation and studying the Quran. How can you not be amazed except by seeing the sky, marvel at the clouds of various shapes, colours and sizes flying across the sky? Is it not amazing that there are 6 billion people on earth, and they have 12 billion eyes, and Allah knows what EVERY eye sees? How Allah knows what the 12 billion ears hear? And He knows what all these people think, wish and want to do?
Is it then not amazing that among all of his creation he decided to choose men to be the best? And among the human beings, he chose us to be Muslims, when billions are still lost, looking for guidance?
In the cycle of blessed days and months, let us ponder on the creation of Allah. Take time to watch a documentary about any of the creation of Allah, whether it’s the clouds, or animals, or even natural events like cyclones and tornadoes! Learn about them and marvel at the power and majesty of your Lord, Full of Might and Honour! And then open the Quran, and be marvelled at his beautiful message, the mauidhah (heart penetrating advice) that He decided to send to you and I!

PODSERIES: SIGNS OF LOVE FOR ALLAH, THE EXALTED – PART 6 OF 8
Tumblr media
The next sign of truly loving Allah, the Exalted, and the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, is to dislike the attitude of those who may perform righteous deeds but do so without following the traditions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. Meaning, they do not actively seek out his traditions and act on them. Instead, they seek and act on good deeds which have been advised by others. Even though, these are good deeds also yet, a muslim must understand that no good deed is superior to a good deed prescribed or advised by Allah, the Exalted, or the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. Everything has a hierarchy. So one should not deviate from the correct priority and instead first fulfil their obligatory duties and then fulfil as much of the traditions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, as possible. Only then should they perform other voluntary deeds if they find the time and energy to do so. Even the traditions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, should be prioritised correctly as they vary in grades which scholars have made clear. Simply put, all paths to Allah, the Exalted, are blocked except the path of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him. So muslims should choose his traditions over the voluntary actions prescribed by others. Chapter 3 Alee Imran, verse 31:
“Say, [O Muhammad], "If you should love Allah, then follow me, [so] Allah will love you and forgive you your sins…”
The next sign of truly loving Allah, the Exalted, is loving the Holy Quran. This must be shown through actions by acting on its teachings not by simply kissing it, wrapping it in a nice cloth and then placing it on a high shelf in one’s home. One must fulfil the aspects of the Holy Quran in order to prove their love for it. Firstly, they must recite it correctly and regularly with respect and concentration. Secondly, they must study the Holy Quran from a reliable source in order to understand its teachings. Lastly, they must strive to act on its teachings in their everyday life. A muslim must always act on its teachings and not only when it suits their desires or in a specific situation or time, such as during the Holy month of Ramadan.
In addition, a part of true love for the Holy Quran is not to use it as a tool to fix one's worldly problems. Unfortunately, some have adopted this attitude and only take out the Holy Quran to recite it when they encounter a worldly problem. And the moment their problem is fixed they put it away not to be looked at again until their next worldly problem. They treat it like a tool which is only taken out of the toolbox in order to fix something. Even though, the Holy Quran is a cure for worldly problems but this is not its main function. Its main purpose is true guidance so that one can reach the hereafter safely. It is foolish to ignore its main function and only use it for something else. This is the like one who buys an expensive car which does not have engine in it only to watch the television that has been fitted inside it. Wouldn't this person be labelled a fool? If a muslim treats the Holy Quran correctly they will find it not only guides them to Paradise but it also fixes their worldly problems also. Chapter 17 Al Isra, verse 82:
“And We send down of the Qur’ān that which is healing and mercy for the believers, but it does not increase the wrongdoers except in loss.”

Jumu'ah Khuthbah: 9 June 2023
Alhamdulillah that we're now 7 years old as twin kiddies, now that we are beautifully conscious of Allah - we can also fully dedicate ourselves to show Him (SWT) our complete love! Not that He (SWT) needs it, actually it's us that do - that's the open secret us adults will share with you both!
This is how our spiritual inspiration for the week flowed, Alhamdulillah!
#1. Nawaaz beautifully asked to know about guidance, how do we determine if it's from Allah or our nafs...?
Shaykh Nishaat responded intriguingly where he said that guidance can only be from Allah as a gift, and if it's not, then it's not guidance! Allah's actions should reflect in our thoughts and actions. We should each reflect our learnings, even spiritually as Muslims, we should be able to see some signs of it. That is why, we pray for guidance and peace in our lives in some way.
Our choices reflect our guidance. If we make the wrong choices repeatedly, are we enacting Allah's guidance? How we choose what we choose is a reflection of where we are in our lives. We can see whether something is guidance from Allah or misguidance from ourselves. We have a system of asking our hearts and then we become relaxed and neutral, where we know our reaction is enough!
Shaykh Taner also said that this world is for verification; but do we go after our own versions of truth or follow Allah, by watching His rights and wrongs ...? Here I remember my own struggle to determine whether I should marry your Abbu, Allah sent several pieces of verification 😊 As I have shared before; the tiny sprinkling flowers from a tree, a leaping dolphin in the horizon and a smooth journey despite several potholes on the way, including our 2018 car accident. Subhana'Allah!
#2. Shaykh Nishaat continued on the topic of guidance. We are not going to make the right choices when our nafs is in control! We need spiritual help to bring our nafs under control. We need to look at the intention behind the intention to determine if the guidance is from Allah. Choice is heavily linked to guidance.
The choices that we make shapes us, and Allah says that forgiveness is better! Upon others, and upon ourselves I would add; as a self-depracating worry wart - Insha'Allah one day I will receive that guidance and peace!
#3. On a blessed resumption of Saturday Sohbets, Shaykh Taner described those who see with their logic and think they learn when they make mistakes... When we actually learn by doing what's right, when we support positivity and remove negativity!
The emphasis on being positive over being negative has been a spiritual panacea, that opened so much in my heart and mind's consciousness - Ya Shakur (Divine gratitude!). Insha'Allah I pray to defy my fiery, doom and gloom genetic disposition and steer towards positivity as a natural inclination!
#4. Shaykh Taner continued to cool our hearts by saying that the important thing is, that Allah teaches us with love. When we come to Islam or faith because the name is unimportant, our mission is completed with no fear nor grief. Fear and grief are for the world of manifestation. Allah is the doer and we are just the 'shahid' as the observers.
Anne continued to project rahma (mercy);
What is close to our hearts may change at different stages of our lives but we must maintain our connection to Allah...
This is our fanafillah as merging with Allah or our experience of Laylatul Qadr where we must return to our worldly lives to enact Allah's actions.
That left a mysterious unknown, personally for me. I have been blessed with so much spiritual awakening through my 'disability', what is next Allah? Insha'Allah with continued love and commitment to Allah and thereby, our family!
#5. Again my spiritual panacea on positivity was elaborated by an altogether different source, the eloquent Yasmin Mogahed.
youtube
She said that we must have a positive view of Allah akin to our mothers, where we wholeheartedly trust them in wanting the best for us. Allah has more mercy for us than our mothers! We must trust Allah's credentials as the most wise, most knowledgeable and most capable.
Our understanding of matters differ due to various factors, where pain can be dealt with in different ways. Eg. Anger when something doesn't happen the way we expected it to. Sabr (Patience) is the minimum response we should have to our lives, we must not complain to the decree of Allah or have resentment! We must always have hope to fix something in ourselves; like my inherited, doom and gloom, and negative perspective - Bismillahir rahmanir rahim to living Allah’s positivity...
This has been a productive week of learning on all fronts, Ya Shakur that the learning is seemingly endless! With your Aunty Amira and me on board with your Abbu, and the Degrowth theory as a real alternative to Capitalism - Subhana'Allah!
Ya Alim Ya Hakim Ya Nafi (Yearning Allah's knowledge and wisdom in crafting goodness)

JUZ 20-LESSONS
➖SURAH AN-NAML
-Allah SWT is our Creator, Only He deserves worship and subservience
We should learn about the different types of Shirk and leave all of them. Make it a habit of saying:
throughout the day and especially when going to bed to be resurrected on Tawheed.
-Allah SWT is He Who hears the supplication of the desperate
He makes us go through the pains so that we connect with Him. Sadly, when people are in
this phase they call or text another human being to talk or complain to. Some turn on their television sets to watch a movie or a drama. Some go to the mall for their "retail therapy."
Allah SWT gave us this pain so that we would turn to Him and make sincere heartfelt du'as, but we turn to the creation to calm us down.
Make du'as to Him even if you do not see an immediate response.
-When a person has the "yaqeen" [certainty] of the Hereafter, they will work for it and not just dream about it or wish for it
La Tahzan! If you are a Da'ee, get out of your depression. Do not be discouraged by people's attitudes and comments. Make your heart strong so that you stay motivated in spreading Allah's commands to others.
-Allah SWT is Sufficient for you against your opponents. Hand over all matters to Him. Make Him your Wakeel! Let Him fight your case. You busy yourself with His worship and obedience.
- He who desires Allah's Mercy and Guidance should hold on to the Qur'an
-It is not in our control to make some people listen to the Message - their hearts are blocked
-Ad-Daabah - a great beast that is hidden in the earth and will emerge near the End Times. It will have the ability to speak and reason. It will make marks on the people's noses which will distinguish the believers from the disbelievers.
Do not say anything without knowledge especially about the Qur'an, Sunnah or any other religious issue
-The Day of Judgment will be a horrifying day. Only they will be saved from the terrors of that Day for whom Allah SWT desires. O Allah, please make us of them! (ameen)
-Whoever does good, will be compensated with goodness. We expect reward from the people, but ignore Allah SWT?
Do not stay behind in doing good deeds. Ask Him: O Allah, choose me for good deeds and enable me to do them with ease. Please do not choose someone else ouer me, ameen.
Do not get frustrated when people approach you for help - questions related to Deen (if
you've authentic knowledge); parenting advice (if you're an inspirational parent); study help
(if you're an outstanding student) or financial help (if you're blessed).
Do not frown! Do not turn people away when you're in a position to help them.
Allah SWT CHOSE YOU over others!
-Whoever does this will be in peace on the Day of Judgment so do not take this lightly
➖SURAH AL-QASAS
-Tyrant leaders rule over others by causing division among the people. Beware! Do not hate someone because they are of a different race or think differently than you.
-Allah SWT inspires His righteous servants regarding what they should do. Do not ignore inner thoughts to do something good. Ask Allah SWT:
"O Allah! Inspire in me guidance and deliver me from the evils within myself." [at-Tirmidhi]
-When you are patient over a trial and ask Allah SWT for strength, you will notice an increase in your emaan
Allah SWT won't disappoint a person who relies on Him when taking a step or decision
Judgment [Hukm - the ability to see things in their real form and take the right decision at the right time] and knowledge is a gift of Allah SWT. We ask Allah SWT for material things but fail to ask for innate abilities that will help us for life!
-The moment you realize you have committed a wrong, tum to Allah SWT in repentance the way Musa AS did.
Be Like Musa AS
- Stay connected to Allah SWT and talk to Him as your life's situation changes
When he accidentally kills a man
When he feels threatened
"My Lord, indeed I have wronged myself, so forgive me." (28:16)
"My Lord, save me from the wrongdoing people." (28:21)
When he is in need of Allah's favors
When he finds himself lost
"Perhaps my Lord will guide me to the sound way." (28:22)
"My Lord, indeed I am, for whatever good you would send down to me, in need." (28:24)
when a person wants to reach the destination/goal without hurdles or want to get out of his trials then he should make this du'a
-A special character trait of woman
-HAYA in SHYNESS
-HAYA IN DRESSING
-HAYA IN MANNERS
-HAYA IN SPEECH -HAYA IN WALK
-COMPOSED
Acknowledge you are faqeer, in need and weak, lack knowledge, lack wisdom
Guidance is for him who seeks it. Allah SWT knows our intentions, the day we become sincere in seeking guidance, He will open up the way for us.
- When someone from the People of the Book accepts Islam, they receive double rewards. One for believing in their Scripture and second for believing in the Final Messenger and the Qur'an.
Who are these people? (see 28:52-55)
- they avert evil through good
- they spend from what Allah SWT has provided them
- when they hear ill speech, they turn away from it and say, "For us are our deeds, and for you are your deeds. Peace will be upon you; we seek not the ignorant."
- We can't guide anyone because guidance is in Allah's Hands. We should continue to advise them and make a lot of du'as for them.
- Never become arrogant when you are blessed
- Consult with Allah SWT in every matter. Do Istikharah yourself (don't ask others to do it).
"Seek, through that which Allah has given you, the home of the
Hereafter; and [yet], do not forget your share of the world. And do good as Allah has done good to you." (28:77)
- We build and decorate our homes as if we are always going to live here. When there is an increase in our paycheck, we also increase our expenditures. Instead of upgrading your lifestyle here, upgrade your home of the Hereafter. Enjoy your blessings but do not forget the Right of Allah SWT. Give sadaqah. Arrange gatherings of knowledge in your homes. Spend money to build mosques and Islamic institutes.
Whatever Allah SWT has given you, think about how you can use it in His way.
- SELF-CHECK: When do you feel excited - when you get some material possession or when Allah SWT chooses you for a good deed? An Akhirah focused person will be happy to serve and please Allah SWT. He does not like hoarding wealth or possessions.
- Do not attribute your success to yourself. Everything that we have is from Allah SWT.
- Do righteous deeds in this world, protect your time, live as an ascetic, gain knowledge of the Deen and spread it - busy yourself in this, for a better reward in the Hereafter. Live a simple and content life. Do not desire what other's have. Less possessions = less accountability.
➖SURAH AL-'ANKABOOT
Do the people think that they will be left to say, "We believe" and they will not be tried?
Allah SWT tests His servants to separate the true believers from the hypocrites. Therefore, when you are being tested, be patient.
- Whoever strives only strives for the benefit of himself. Allah SWT is free from need. We are the ones in need. We need Allah's protection and mercy in this world and the next.
-Belief in Allah SWT and righteous deeds can erase the misdeeds so increase your good deeds
- Allah SWT knows the reality of the claims that we make and what we hide in our hearts
- In the Hereafter, no one will carry another's burdens so make sure you take your knowledge from the authentic sources and follow the Right Path - the path of Rasoolullah (salAllahu 'alayhi wa sallam). No innovations!
- Do not make du'as to dead saints or peers for an increase in provision. Ask directly from Allah SWT. He is the One Who provides to everyone.
- People of the Deen love others who are busy serving the Deen of Allah SWT - this is love for the sake of Allah SWT, the best form of lo
- Prophet Nuh (AS) called people to Allah SWT for 950 years...how easily do we give up when calling people to Deen? Be patient for the sake of Allah SWT. Do not give up. If you are sincere in your duty, He will help you.
- When you start a conversation talk about the good things first. Do not start a conversation with complaints or negative things.
- Homosexuality is an immoral act, an entire nation was destroyed because of this. Do not approve of something that is forbidden in our religion. Save your families and loved ones.
-Whoever plots against the Deen of Allah SWT their plots are as weak as a spider's web
-No one understands the examples given in the Qur'an except those who have knowledge. We ask Allah SWT for rushd and knowledge and to not make us of those who are arrogant or ignorant, ameen.

Beh.. Bismillahirrahmanirrahim..
I do not know where to start the storytelling session from, but here is the brief version, 8 years ago I got accepted in a master's degree, I was happy, proud, excited, you name it.. but I was in a different phase of my life where my priorities weren't straight, and I sorta did things for the wrong reasons, but that's not the point. After studying and passing the first 2 years it was time to work on my research and write the MA dissertation thesis.. which took me about 2 years of wasted time, and I missed all the deadlines and ended up quitting and leaving the program without graduating. It was one of the hardest times it in my life. I only have one description for it: Painful. When I was trying to work on my research I was utterly and completely lost. I struggled with crippling anxiety, I wasn't sleeping or living properly, I was way under rock bottom. I remember the nights where I tried to force myself to study or write something, my arms would hurt and freeze on me, I couldn't even move my fingers on the keyboard, and I would end up crying myself to sleep. I watched my days slip away, my classmates making progress and me falling behind.. I still remember the pages of " pros and cons " on my diary that I filled with reasons trying to ease my pain and convince myself that I didn't need to graduate and that a degree doesn't make you happy. Anyways, let me save you guys the ugly details, long story short, I gave up. It was too painful. I let the rope go. How did I live on with that feeling and with the circumstances? Obviously not healthily. Little did I know back then that it was all a part of Allah's plan and Allah's test for me. Alhamdulillah. That was mid 2018.
A year later, I picked up school again. I enrolled in the master's program all over again, I had already gotten a full time job and still, with Allah's blessings, managed to study and work, pass my exams, improve my grades, and a year and a half later I found myself face to face with the research and the dissertation again, aka, my nightmare. Obviously, my very unstable brain decided to bring back all the psychological damage from last time and live in it. The episode of severe anxiety had begun, I went on antidepressants, I took a leave from work on to focus on research but all I did was procrastinate and cry about it. I know I tend to whine a lot on tumblr but a few of you have been close enough to me to witness the struggle and to see my pain, I am beyond grateful to any one and everyone who ever helped me even with a simple word of encouragement, may Allah swt bless your hearts and grant you pure happiness. Anyways, it was painful as well, except that this time, I did things the right way, with a closer relationship to Allah swt than my 2018 self, and seeking therapy, I was making progress, and obviously when you see yourself making progress it gives you a sensation of reward, you get high on the dopamine and you find the energy to keep going, and to reach the finish line, Alhamdulillah!
And it happened, with Allah's blessings and mercy it happened, with Allah's kindness and generosity it happened, and today, I am a holder of a Master's degree in applied linguistics after a journey of eight whole years!
Now of course shaytan can't see you or let you put your effort in something and work hard on it without trying to shake your self-esteem and distracting you with negative thoughts, like what are you doing? Your friends graduated 4 or 5 years ago. Have you seen how old you are? You couldn't do it last time there is no point in doing it now! It is pointless and your work is very mediocre. You are only wasting your time, blah blah blah.. But the key to break this vicious circle of self-doubt and negative self-talk is to realize the following:
To each their path, to each they journey, according to their own right timing. There is no rule in life that holds us to reach a certain milestone at an exact age or timing. To each their own experiences, and each person blooms differently, which is beautiful. There are 7.7 billion people in the world, do you think they all have the same goal or the same definition of success? do you think they all graduated by the age of 22 or 25? How many people do you even think got to go to college? It is not a fixed template that we have to all adjust our lives to. Absolutely not. Do not compare your journey to anyone else's!!! Walk your own path, with your own steps, write your own story!
And remember, it is okay to try again. It is okay to start over. It is never too late. You are gonna make it, the way you are supposed to make it and not the way other people made it. Success looks different from one person to the other. What works well for you does not necessarily work out for others. And if you fail? That's okay! Trial and error is a part of the learning process. Making mistakes is what makes us human, and perseverance is what makes us superhuman.
Writing this with all the love in the world. May Allah swt bless your journey and grant you the strength and patience to keep going. May Allah swt grant you success in this duniyah and the akhirah.

Islam and youth in the modern world
Yesterday I was feeling quite down in the dumps over something I couldn't pin down, or probably over one of those trivial things you feel guilty about worrying that are not within your power or control. Anyway, since I didn't have any lectures/classes after Dhuhr I decided to watch a few Khutbahs in order to regain my sense of optimism and I stumbled upon this particular one by Nouman Ali Khan where he exhorted people (primarily the youth) to withstand challenges and difficulties they face as Muslims in a modern world drawing from the example of the People of the Cave (Surah Kahf). And SubhanAllah, a pall of tranquillity had descended upon my heart towards the end of it and instilled a tremendous sense of self-confidence and strength that I was lacking especially on how to carry yourself when you're engulfed by non-Muslim in every social circle. He discussed how to stand tall as a Muslim and hold fast to your deen and iman during these peculiar times when filth is doing the rounds everywhere and the majority of the world is bending the rules according to their will devoid of morality or succumbing to it. While we as Muslims can still stand erect and upright rather than buckling under the pressure to not stick out. And while it might sound a tad bit cliche, all of a sudden I felt eternally grateful to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala for bestowing Islam upon us and honouring me as a Muslim, Alhamdulillah. How often do I ponder upon the fact that simply carrying a Muslim identity is the most profound blessing Allah has graced me with? That He chose to shine His guidance upon me especially considering that I used to feel inferior (for a lack of better adjective) among non-muslims and decided to just mingle with the tradition of those people for the fear of being alienated and feeling outcast? That I never did take a stand for my religion which is the biggest ni'mah and rahma my Rabb has bestowed upon this humanity? The religion which embellishes our lives in every aspect and yet I directed my concern to people's criticism? That I almost lost my conscience in the way of condoning things which my Rabb has sternly forbidden because that is the popular standpoint of the world?
I can just sum it up by claiming that I do not have to shy away from asserting my identity as a Muslim and neither do I have to bend to the tide that normalises things which are clearly displeasing to my Lord. I do not have to be reluctant to stand out as someone with a differing viewpoint even if draws the ire of the people. I do not have to fear allegiance to my deen even if it buys me the label of an “extreme” person. Adhering to the Qur'an and the Sunnah of our Rasūlullah (ﷺ) is the need of the hour even if it ruffles people's feathers. Since we're living in an era where the fitnah is so rampant and the line between morality and immortality or right and wrong is blurring, we need to unwaveringly cling to the “most trustworthy handhold” and that will suffice us, In sha Allah.
In this lecture, Nouman Ali Khan presents a beautiful metaphorical analogy (I'm just paraphrasing):
Imagine a tree with firm roots that is standing unbudgingly whose roots run deep into the earth. And then there's a deluge or flash flood and its current is carrying people and everything along with it. In this situation, you will certainly want to rescue yourself from getting carried away by the flood. So you decide to hold fast to the tree which isn't budging. And although you might face resistance and pressure and feel the grasp loosening, yet you continue to hold on to it, thereby saving yourselves from the perilous situation.
This example has got etched in my mind. The tree obviously represents the Qur'an and the sunnah of our Prophet (ﷺ) and so when something uncomfortable or unnerving befalls you and you're conflicted about your choices and preferences all you've got to do is hold tight to the guidance of Allah SWT and His messenger (ﷺ) even if you face harsh and severe resistance from all the sides in the form of people's rebuke and slander or Islamophobia. And while the rest of the world gets carried away by the deluge of ignorance or misguidance you will save yourselves from it. And nothing is greater than the force and power of the word of Allah SWT.
Lastly, I sincerely pray to my Rabb:
Ya ذو الجلالي والإكرام, in this age where the line of distinction between morality and immorality is getting conflated, I seek refuge in you from lending my solidarity to things which are displeasing to You. I request you to plant firmness in my heart, just like you endowed the heart of Musa (As) with strength, to stand up for the truth and the just despite my vulnerabilities. I ask you to never withdraw your guidance which pulled the wool off my eyes and strengthen me in this beautiful religion so that I could always hold fast to Your Word and the teachings of our Prophet ﷺ. I cherish my deen, my love for You and Rasoolullah ﷺ and his companions, my iman and this religion more than my life so, please do not deprive me of these, ya Rabbi. Please lend Your guidance to my brothers and sisters in the faith who are conflicted and undergoing tremendous pressure and mental stress due to Islamaphobia. Please uplift us in our eman so that we feel content to have been sufficed with this beautiful deen. Ameen <3

Ramadan Diaries: The Best Company
I imagine myself siting outside a marquee in Jannah; the grandest mehfils of them all! In the faint distance I can hear the sweet recitation of Hz. Dawud (AS) in the background, which is joined by the birds and animals. As I step closer to the source, I can feel the radiance of Nur envelop me and a rush of joy overwhelms me! I find myself a corner to sit in and just try to watch the majestic display from afar.Nearby, I see the Ghazis of Badr gathered around a bonfire sharing their war stories with the Muslims.I then see the brave Hz. Ali (RA) walking with the Sahabah brandishing his double-bladed sword as he retells the stories of Khyber to the Sahaba. And just besides him, I catch a glimpse of Hz. Umar (RA). taken aback by the magnanimous aura of awe and fear he exudes. And then there is Hz. Uthman (RA) as well! with his handsome appearance, humble as always, the Dhun Nurayn! And then you find Hz Abu Bakr (RA), the best friend of your Habib (SAW), you wish to come closer to him, and want to hear all the incidents of all the joys and sorrows he shared with him from start to finish. And then finally amidst all the crowd, you finally see him. your beloved Nabi (SAW). His blessed back is facing to all the choice Sahabas, martyrs and greeting them with open arms. Your heart is aching just to catch a look of his shining face, but then your heart skips a beat. Tears well up.  When his eyes fall upon you, will he recognize you as His Ummati and give a radiant smile or will he be dismayed, and turn away. You want to apologize, you want to run to him into his arms and cry and ask for his blessings. But then something amazing happens... The Curtain opens.Allah (SWT) reveals Himself with All His Glory and Majesty and a wave of contentment takes over you and there is nothing more you could ever ask for and it looks like finally you found peace... at last. ◣━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━◢ "And he who obeys Allah and the Messenger -they shall be with those whom  Allah has favoured -the Prophets, those steadfast in truthfulness1, the martyrs, and the righteous." How excellent will they be for companions!" [4:69]This thought experiment is of what it might be like to be part of the best of companies! The Sahabah, Nabiyun we hear are not simply chapters in our stories but were living breathing personalities and just imagine how awesome it would be if we could meet them in Jannah! Imagine if you get to meet the friend of Allah (SWT) - Ibrahim (AS) for a day, the mighty Musa (AS) ? or the shining Yousuf (AS)?Assalaatualanabi Wassalaamualarasul Walambiyaa-il-mursaleen Kulluhum mukramoon!

Not Obsessing over others’ Blessings: Prophet Zakariyyah’s Dua
Prophet Zakariyyah (as) was entrusted with the guardianship of Maryam (as) while she was secluded in her worship and dedication to Allah (swt). At one point, when he came to check on her, he found that she had provisions – fruits that were not in season. His reaction to this is recorded in this beautiful series of verses:
Allah (swt) says:
Every time Zakariyyah entered upon her in the prayer chamber, he found with her provision. He said, ‘O Maryam, from where is this [coming] to you?’ She said, ‘It is from Allah. Indeed, Allah provides for whom He wills without account.’
At that, Zakariyyah called upon his Lord, saying, ‘My Lord, grant me from Yourself a good offspring. Indeed, You are the Hearer of supplication.’
So the angels called him while he was standing in prayer in the chamber, ‘Indeed, Allah gives you good tidings of Yahya…’ (3:37-39)
When Zakariyyah saw that Maryam had provisions that seemed to appear out of thin air, and fruits that were not even in season, he was genuinely surprised. But after Maryam said to him, “Allah provides for whom He wills without account,” He turned to Allah (swt) right after and made dua for a son.
Zakariyyah didn’t immediately think why don’t I have what she has, since I’m also a believer, a worshiper, and even a prophet? or what makes her more special than me?
Instead he saw these provisions as a miracle, and a sign that Allah (swt) is capable of all things. It was at this point that Zakariyyah turned to ask Allah (swt) to bless him with a son, despite his old age and despite his wife’s barrenness.
When we see people who have things we don’t have – large homes, beauty, loving spouses, children, monetary success – we can do one of two things:
Drown ourselves in rivers of envy because we don’t have the same.
Recognize that these blessings are from Allah, and use it as a motivation to ask of Him alone.
I hate to bring up social media, again, but I must. Our exposure to social media means that we are constantly (even if unknowingly) comparing our lives to the lives of others. (Related and relevant: “Comparison is the Thief of Joy”)
Their blessings are on full display. (I have my own opinions on whether or not some of these displays are Islamically appropriate, but that’s neither here nor there at this point.) The issue at hand is – how do we handle the constant barrage of images showing us how much better someone is doing in life than we are?
The Muslim fashionistas always seem to have picture-perfect clothes, lives, and relationships. The Instagram moms always seem to have their houses clean and dinner cooked and kids looking presentable and happy (oh, and five DIY projects in the making on the side). The Muslim businesses always seem to be on top great new ideas and turning a significant profit.
We all know that these images are merely a sliver of what these people’s lives really entail. But that doesn’t diminish the effect that these open displays have on us.
We easily become envious creatures when we allow our consumption of these things to go unchecked. And get this: we even become envious of people we don’t know, and over things we never even thought we wanted! That’s the most surprising thing of all.
Even if we place great controls over what we view, we will always see someone somewhere with something “better” than we have. That’s just a reality of existing. What we really have to examine is how we react.
Prophet Zakariyyah saw that Maryam had been blessed with something he never had (an emotion we experience on the daily). His reaction to it, however, was beautiful. He turned to Allah and asked Him to give him a son. Because after all, it wasn’t provisions that he desperately wanted – it was a son to inherit the role of spreading the message of truth to his people.
So when he saw the blessings Maryam had, he was able to redirect his thoughts to the Greatness of Allah (swt), and then to something he actually wanted. He asked Allah (swt) for that thing – and of course, Allah (swt) responded.
In order to be able to incorporate this attitude into our lives we need to do the following:
Limit our consumption of other people’s lives. Yes, I know their lives are on display, but that doesn’t mean it’s healthy to be constantly watching. (Read this.)
Take the time to develop our goals and our vision. When we become laser-focused on our own development, we won’t lose ourselves in other people’s achievements and blessings.
Turn to Allah (swt) in dua always, and especially whenever we feel overwhelmed by the blessings of others.
Turn our attention to those who have less than us, not more, and then take steps to offer help.
May Allah (swt) cleanse our hearts from envy, and allow us to focus on the betterment of ourselves and those who are struggling in our homes and communities.

I attended a dars (religious lesson) with the ethereal Ustadha Eiman at my mom's good friend/neighbor's house in SoCal today. The topic for discussion was "sabr" (patience). She talked about how Allah (swt) has guaranteed that we will ALL be tested -- either through our wealth or through our children or through our health or through fear. We are all going to experience tribulations at some point or the other, and the mu'min (believer) doesn't respond with "aaaah!" but with "la Ilaaha ilAllah" (there is no god but God) instead. The believer can feel grief/depression, but he/she doesn't complain about the Will of Allah and instead uses the trial as an opportunity to draw closer to his/her Lord. This way, even the tribulation becomes a means of benefit. She gave personal examples of feeling fear along with the eventual realizations that Allah (swt) was both the Bestower and the Remover of hardships and one had to find comfort in the Divine Decree instead of falling into the trap of constantly asking "why me?"
I looked around the living room at the circle of ladies -- my mother's friends -- many of whom I had known since I was a young girl in high school and college. On first sight, these were elegant and refined ladies, dressed in silk and diamonds with designer bags on their arms and luxury cars parked in the street. Most would think that these were the privileged few who had been spared any "real hardships" in life.
Yet, one after the other the women stepped forward, thanking Ustadha Eiman for her important reminders and wise advice, sharing their own very real experiences with grief and patience.
"Time is a healer -- time and Allah," one beloved auntie who lost her 2-yr-old son to a tragic drowning told my sister and me. "It's easy to only focus on the one great thing you lost and not see the countless blessings you have around you. You MUST be grateful; you HAVE to see all the blessings that still surround you even through all the pain."
Another lady overheard us talking and joined our little group. "The pain never ever goes away, does it? It only gets easier to bear, but it doesn't ever go away," she smiled at our auntie while squeezing her shoulders. Then she asked me, "Do you remember my son So-and-So?"
I blinked for a moment and then suddenly recognized the face of a young boy I taught in Sunday School (back in the early 90's) in her own sweet face. She told me that he died 18 yrs earlier at the age of 12.
"After his death, this life is like a mirage to me. Nothing is real. Nothing is permanent. What is the point of attaching your heart to anything so completely when that thing can be taken away at any moment?"
I squeezed her hand and couldn't trust myself to say anything.
She continued, "My son belonged to Allah, and Allah took him back. He was never 'MINE' to begin with. I bargained with Allah for a long time. I told Him He could burn down my house, cut off any of my limbs...but now I find patience and comfort knowing that I will be reunited with my son one day in a much better place. THIS place is just a mirage."
Another auntie began to weep and said, "I don't feel that I passed my test when I lost my child. I didn't show patience. I dressed myself, I ate food and drank water and talked and smiled and went on with life, but I went through a lot of depression. I asked, 'Why me?' I thought, 'If only...'"
"But you have your imaan (faith) in your heart," my sister told her. "You're still standing here as a believer. You HAVE passed the test."
"Not getting depressed, not feeling sad, not bargaining, not playing the 'what if?' game -- THOSE aren't signs of passing the test," I told her. "Not lashing out at God, not being angry with Him -- THOSE are the true signs that you have been patient."
"All I have is my faith," she said through tears. "If I didn't have my spirituality, I don't know how I would have gotten through the years. Only Allah can get you through a grief as great as this. This life is a test. It is nothing but a test."
I watched another auntie on the other side of the room as she smiled and hugged her friends. She lost her father at a young age, then her brother when he was a teenager, and -- only a month ago -- she lost her 30-yr-old son without any warning. If you looked at her, you would never guess the heartache her fragile frame concealed -- not just over the past month but over the past few decades.
Then I spotted my mother's best friend who is busy day and night taking care of (and praying for) her loving husband who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Her back was straight and her smile was tired (but sincere as always) as she warmly greeted the community members who surrounded her.
I approached an auntie whom I had never met before as she sat on the sofa and picked at her lunch. All I knew about her was that she had buried her 23-yr-old daughter only 3 days earlier. I knelt in front of her and introduced myself and gave her my condolences and prayers. She smiled and listened to me and then -- holding my hands -- said simply and succinctly: "God...is...Great."
These women carry battle scars no one ever wants to earn. They are our teachers and our examples. We have so much to learn from their embodiment of the deen (religion).
One of them said to my friends and me, "You young people are so much better than us. You are learning and practicing so much at such a young age. We didn't know anything when we were your age."
I tried to control the tears from springing to my eyes as I felt my face flush with shame. "All we know is theory," I told her. "You are the ones putting what we are learning into ACTUAL practice. None of us knows how we'll react to a real test. You are our teachers who have earned wisdom the hard way, at a great price. Wisdom doesn't come easy."
She grabbed my hands and said, "You know, I always say that no one can understand what we have been through unless they actually experience it. But my foremost prayer is that NO ONE ever has to experience this kind of pain in their lives. May Allah (swt) protect you all AND your children."
Aameen.
I am posting this as a reminder first to myself and then to others -- we have NO IDEA how people are being (or have been) tested and tried. EVERY single person is experiencing some kind of pain -- if not today, then tomorrow (may Allah make it easy). We must treat each other with mercy and compassion and love even if we don't know each other's stories. Today was a real eye-opener for me.

Getting into Jannah is never easy way! And there's lot of trials and suitation in life where it's tested lot and polished and reshaped that's how diamonds are used!
That's how the people are tested with lot of trials, challenges and suitation in life! Life is never easy! They'll be fame then next moment you'll be flopped down how?! You never know because it's all Allah will whom he want to bring up or pull down don't let your proud get into way!
And now I look lot of people who's just having lot of troubles with family, with fiances, with dunya.... There's lot!
And there's lot of people who's been incapable of doing things and I sincerely appreciate the efforts they put on life and move on! But I wish they follow the Islam the wise way!(not by the force)
