actually you know what the mcu was absolutely evil for introducing spider-man and immediately making him follow iron man around and then ALSO using him as a prop to make iron man look cooler meanwhile peter barely gets a faithful story of his own IN HIS OWN MOVIES

My Beef with Wanda Maximoff - An MCU Rant
Tumblr media
Sorry not sorry, I will ride the Wanda-ain't-shiitake train till the wheels are worn out. I do not care what her fangirls say. And if you're legitimately going to be so overly offended just from me disliking a FICTIONAL character, I highly suggest you click off, make some tea, and watch a Ghibli movie.
How many times does it need to be said? Just because someone suffers from some form of (small or big) trauma, IT DOESN’T GIVE THEM A PASS TO DO EVIL SH—
I really REALLY sincerely hope there's lore or bits I'm missing here (and if so, PLEASE tell me because I WANT to be wrong so BAD). But from what I know and remember, I feel as though I have every right to be disgusted with who Wanda is as a person.
It frustrates me so much how this carmine-colored narcissist will whine about people being scared of her, but she does stuff only a scary person WOULD do.
Purposefully setting the Hulk off so you could use him as a wrecking ball on innocent civilians in Johannesburg during Age of Ultron? Seems scary as heck.
Literally warping the universe itself to hunt and kill a teenager who did nothing to you during Multiverse of Madness? Seems scary as heck.
Brainwashing an ENTIRE town JUST so you can live in delusion about your man not being dead during Wandavision? Seems DOUBLE scary as heck.
Don't even try to defend what she did in Age of Ultron. Even if she supposedly didn't INTEND to have civilians killed, she sure as HECK didn't seem all too sorry that it happened. She wasn't ‘regretful’ that she did it. She was only ‘regretful' when Bruce confronted her on it. She has the nerve (the utter AUDACITY) to hate Tony Stark for the same CRAP that she does (if not worse, which let's be honest—it’s worse).
At least Tony Stark DIED out of an effort to save everyone, whereas Wanda usually tends to only help others when it benefits HER.
Wanda is nothing more than a Multiversal brat with a god-complex and no one can tell me otherwise. If something does not go 100% her way, she completely acts out and throws a reality-warping tantrum.
“Oh, but she tried to fix everything in Wandavision!”
Yeah, only after finding out she was BRAINWASHING people!
How the FREAK do you reality warp an ENTIRE town (especially at the large radius she used her magic) and expect NO one to be under mind control? Would you NOT try to fly around the premises to see if ANYONE else was there?
Once again, even if this was an example where she didn't INTEND for it to happen, then that proves another great flaw that she has.
Wanda hardly (if ever) thinks through her actions. And then when her actions bite her in the butt, she has the nerve to be surprised. Wanda almost never (and I'm being generous here) considers how her actions harm or affect others until it turns around and affects HER.
She did not deserve Vision, he was too good of a man for her, sorry not sorry.
Just the stuff she did BEFORE Multiverse of Madness ALONE is enough to not like her.
Let's not even get into the fact she never ACTUALLY apologized to Bruce Banner for everything she put him through. All she said at most when he confronted her is, “I know you're angry…”
Oh wow, REALLY? I couldn't POSSIBLY understand why Banner would EVER be angry at you for essentially brain-raping him (going into his mind and memories without his CONSENT) and using his worst fears against him to trigger Hulk so you could use him like a personal killing machine, further lessening the very few support systems he already HAD. She should feel grateful Banner didn't immediately throw her through a wall upon seeing her.
“But she became an avenger and helped them in Endgame!”
I could not give less of a DOOKIE about the fact she did that. Wanda fighting Thanos was literally the ONLY option she possibly had if she didn't wanna turn into dust along with the other half of the population. Sure, she also did it because she was forced to kill her boo BECAUSE of Thanos, but let's be honest—she would've had to fight him regardless. Her handing Thanos’ butt to him (while a very cool scene) doesn't prove JACK about her character.
The fact she ever BECAME an avenger after effectively traumatizing the MAJORITY of them is mind-boggling to me.
“Oh, I'm sorry I weaponized all of your traumas against you for my own personal gain because I wanted to work with a genocidal robot, can I join you guys?”
“Sure, Wanda! Come into the team and we'll pretend like you didn't do a darn thing!”
(The fact this isn't even ALL that she's done is absurd, I can still keep going—)
Don't even get me STARTED on Multiverse of Madness. And before anyone tries to say, “She did it so she could have a reality with her children!”
BRO, HER KIDS WEREN'T EVEN FREAKING REAL—
Wanda Freaking Maximoff wanted to murder a TEENAGER all for some children that were not even ACTUAL people. And when she did have them, didn't she make them FIGHT against the military in Wandavision or am I mistaken (which I VERY MUCH hope I am because what the he---)?
I do not care whatsoever what her reason is or what trauma she went through. Attempted murder of a minor (ESPECIALLY in this case, a minor who didn't even do anything) is inexcusable to me.
There is no way in frog fingers you guys are ACTUALLY trying to justify and/or downplay a grown ADULT trying to murder a CHILD (because that's what America was—a CHILD).
(Her and Miguel O'Hara would get along GREAT, when's the collab--)
And by then, she had ALREADY brutally murdered a whole bunch of people and probably corrupted the multiverse even FURTHER than she already had.
It wasn't until an ALTERNATE version of her (who ACTUALLY had her kids) told her to sit the [BLEEP] down (I'm paraphrasing here, but you get my drift).
Wanda is NOT a victim. Is she a good villain? Yes. But this witch isn't a victim. Not anymore at least. She doesn't apologize for her actions. She doesn't take responsibility. She doesn't reflect on what she does.
And even when she DOES finally do ANY of those things in ANY capacity, the damage is already done. In fact, it's not JUST done, it's also BURNT inside the oven causing smoke to go everywhere.
There is no rhyme or reason you could pull out that will convince me to be anything short of angry with this character and I'm so tired of her fans trying to defend her just because she was a lab rat and lost her man.
Once again, it's not bad to like a character that does awful stuff. But please, for sanity sake, STOP acting like they're a lost little angel BECAUSE you like them. I know they say "hurt people hurt people" but that still doesn't justify doing bad stuff just because bad things happened to YOU.

assigning marvel heroes engineering majors (1)
i tried to write this so it makes sense even if you don't know much about engineering!! this post has my headcanons for peter parker, steve rogers, tony stark, and clint barton!!
as a preface, i am very aware that most of the marvel heroes would not in fact be in school for engineering even in an alternate universe. unfortunately, my fixation on both superheroes and engineering knows no bounds.
please feel free to ask me any questions about eng or for further explanation my reasons for these picks!! i am only in one type of eng but know many people in other disciplines so hopefully i'll be able to answer :)))
Peter Parker - Mechanical & Biomedical
I truly, truly believe the correct peter parker engineering take depends on what portrayal of spiderman you are looking at. like tobey's spiderman? would not touch biomed with a pole let alone mech. ... that peter parker is so far from engineer...... i dont even know where i would put him. materials? pls send your opinions if you have them.
BUT MCU, tom holland, spiderman would definitely definitely be in mechanical & biomedical. i actually got this from an irl friend, so if you see this somehow pls say hi LMAO
mechanical is one of the most common streams of eng and, while absolutely not something i ever want to touch, is really neat. it centers around keeping things in motion (contrary to civil engineering where if something is moving you're in trouble). it applies physics in really cool ways which i imagine would be a draw to peter just on the sole basis of personal interest. mech also plays with materials as it explores elasticity, deformation, fractures, yield strength, and other materials things i have blocked out LOL. when i think of that aspect i feel like it matches really well with the designed suit, the webs, and, if you listen to the science jargon he throws around in the movies, some of his prior knowledge.
biomedical engineering is actually used by some (the insane) as a gateway into med school. it covers human anatomy and genetic engineering (radioactive spider????). i do not believe peter would do med school too (because that student debt tho) but i also can't imagine him not trying to apply what he learns to helping others. i am personally partial to applying engineering principles to physiology and i can just imagine him implementing his mechanical knowledge into making prosthetics. if i had the brain power for this degree i would love to do that.
Steve Rogers - Civil Engineering
.... listen. steve rogers would fight a war before sitting in an hour lecture about dirt. i know this and acknowledge this wholeheartedly. HOWEVER,,,, I have a friend in civil with a special interest on sustainable design and you cannot, cannot tell me that isn't steven rogers coded.
civil engineering is not architecture, like at all, which i think is a common misconception if you don't know engineering well ( totally understandable!) unfortunately, i don't think civil caters to his artistic side that well but as someone who likes art but only does it as a hobby next to eng, i think thats okay.
civil engineering is kind of the mother to environmental engineering in the sense that they both look into wastewater treatments, geology, and even environmental planning (in some cases) but civil will also go into more detail with structural components and design of buildings. you'll find civil engineers involved in every building being made and in every town council ensuring clean drinking water and working sewage systems. typically they specialize into one or the other but shhhh ignore that for this post.
what i am trying to say here is that this would give steve a shit ton of wiggle room which i think he would use to help both the environment and people. paying engineers is expensiveeee especially for qualified, capable ones. i think steve would find deep satisfaction in working either for free or for the bare minimum cost (not that you should - know your worth :) ) and i think that he would actively use his work to call out designs that endanger communities or their environments.
this man knows his local engineering ethics code and WILL call someone out.
Tony Stark - Engineering Physics
when i started writing this section i thought it was going to be the easiest but unfortunately i did in fact have to phone a friend. tony stark is THE engineer so narrowing him down to one discipline felt impossible. my friend suggested engineering physics so i went with that.
the thing is eng phys is THE engineering degree. it is wonderful because you look at almost every thing mech, elec, and comp related (will explain more below) without specializing too greatly. it is also difficult because you don't specialize. for tony stark, who did not have to go into that internship grindset mentality, it would all be net positives.
to make the suit i immediately knew tony needed to have an extremely good knowledge on BOTH electrical (circuitry, coding, wires, magnetism, fun stuff) and mechanical (explained in peter's section!!). i was considering a double major but then was stumped because i love my elec and mech friends but they have no desire to produce a new element and also... creating an arc reactor??? plus AI's??? while likely related to software, it he would have bare minimum had to have had a good computer engineering (kind of how it sounds, engineering related to building and using computers and components of computers, lots of overlap w/ elec) background.
to wield the amount of science knowledge tony stark has an be able to apply it in an engineering context he would either have to be a genius (which like canonically he is so yknow) or take every course offered to engphys students (and some).
i think as a student he would have also enjoyed that not having to specify aspect. i imagine him always in the pursuit of knowledge. yay eng physics!!!
Clint Barton - Materials Engineering
If you've read the reasonings for some of the characters above you have likely thought to yourself "wow, such clear arguments, time must have been put into this" which like yes but also no because for this decision i am going exclusively on vibes.
materials focuses on, well, materials. it looks at both composition and properties (plus how composition effects properties). my friends in matls tell me its pretty research heavy which doesn't really fit with clint, i am aware. but every person i have met from this faculty i am convinced would get along with him.
I KNOW THIS ISN'T GREAT REASONING. i think that engineering would always be second to other things or interests in his life (even when he's a student) but I think the promise of a stable job and the hypothetical applications are really interesting. matls and mech can be surprisingly similar and i think he would find more satisfaction in manipulating materials to better fit his goals than in being stuck within predefined constraints.
plus, imagine creating a new material for like the tensile strength of your bow. incredibly cool
I'm thinking i'll work on doing more of these as i find the time!! i definitely have a few ideas for other characters, i just need to figure out how to articulate my reasonings haha.
if you have any ideas or shared interest in engineering and superheroes please let me know!! i have also been recently into the bat family, as you could probably tell by my reblogs, and am thinking of doing a version with them also!!

When SHIELD collapsed, Kira convinced Sam to move to New York to be closer to the Avengers.
DC just wasn't quite the same for him anymore. Not after meeting Captain America and then promptly taking out the city's secret HYDRA cell.
Steve had originally suggested the move. Sam wouldn't have to be an Avenger in any official sense, but he could be around people he knew and trusted, which would be reassuring after that whole mess. It was Kira who eventually managed to persuade him, though. After he'd helped rescue her from HYDRA, they had quickly become close friends. Her insistence made the prospect of moving to a new city easier. Less daunting. It also didn't hurt he'd managed to find a place near the Avengers' Tower with rent that was actually reasonable.
Kira was, to say the least, glad for the company.
She often seemed to find herself alone in the Tower, whilst the rest of the team was out on a mission. It was for her benefit. Apparently. Her therapist insisted her mind just couldn't handle high levels of stress so soon after everything, so it was best to take a step back occasionally. Kira wasn't a fan of those sessions. Frankly, she would've dropped the whole thing if Tony hadn't insisted. And because it was nice to have someone who finally seemed to make sense of her fucked up head. Not that she would ever admit it.
Over time, she realised she didn't mind too much. She was always looking for an excuse to be at Sam's apartment anyways. The tiny, slightly messy, studio was her favourite place to be, helped mostly by the fact one of her closest friends lived there. Every time she would show up, the two would fall into an easy routine of buying greasy takeout and watching cheesy romances, no matter the time of day or the reason for Kira's appearance.
Like usual, they were sitting in what Kira called 'Sam's extended bedroom'. He insisted it was his living area. She wasn't convinced.
She had been staying over that weekend, whilst the rest of the team was on a mission somewhere in Eastern Europe. This time, she had been eager to miss out, urging the others to go on without her. She used the weekend-long visit as an excuse to get takeaway for nearly every meal, on Tony's card, despite Sam's protests that it could not be good for them at all. He quickly let it go when she threatened to eat his food.
"I don't get it." Sam pointed to the characters on-screen, confused at the newest movie Kira had put on. As it turned out, it was a family drama with multiple romantic storylines and it was starting to hurt Sam's head. "Is that supposed to be his little brother, grown-up?"
"Mm-hmm."
"And he doesn't recognise him? Like, at all?"
"Yeah..." she said, realising the absurdity of it now Sam had pointed it out. "But can you blame him? I mean, look at the actor playing him as an adult. He doesn't look like his younger self at all. Even his eye colour's different."
"Well, it is a movie," Sam reasoned. "It's fictional. Like, they 'struggled', but live in a mansion in central London. You're supposed to suspend your disbelief or whatever."
"Yeah, or whatever. It'd be easier to do if I wasn't so stressed about this stupid thing," Kira sighed. She poked at the laptop sitting on the coffee table in front of her, with the back of her fork, as if that would hurry it up.
As much as she loved Sam, she hadn't bailed on the mission just to spend the entire weekend with him, though it was a perk. The actual reason, that had been slowly decrypting for the last two days, sat in front of her. The laptop she was doing it on, which she had found in a dumpster behind a pawn shop, was so run down it had to be kept permanently on charge, and its fan whirred so loudly, she was sure it was going to break. All to watch some stupid CCTV files so she and Sam could try and find her runaway brother.
Just like she'd promised Nat, she hadn't told anyone else about it. Which was why they were doing everything, in secret, in Sam's apartment, whilst the rest of the Avengers were away.
Kira had mainly taken over Nat's involvement in the search, as her memories returned, and Sam took over for Steve, to avoid suspicion from the rest of the team. The other Avengers only knew a couple of things about Jamie. First, he used to be Steve's best friend and was Kira's adoptive brother. Second, whilst his legal name was James Buchanan Barnes, Steve had given him the nickname Bucky and Kira the nickname Jamie. He was also a former Winter Soldier, currently on the run from the authorities and a topic that was completely off-limits.
But that was all they knew. They weren't aware of the extent of what Jamie had done. They hardly knew what Kira had done. The information in the files that, first, Tony, and then the rest of the team, had received, only touched on what Department X, and later HYDRA, had done to them. Not what Department X and HYDRA had made them do. Sam, Steve and Nat were the only ones that knew exactly who the Winter Soldiers had hurt. And, apart from Nat, no one knew anything else.
To Kira, that was fine. That was all they needed to know. The depth of what had happened in Department X, what had happened outside of Department X, and what Nat and Jamie were, wasn't their business. And what Kira was planning, dependent on finding Jamie, wasn't their business either. Not even Nat's. It didn't bother her much no one knew the whole truth. It wasn't like she was hurting them by not telling them. She didn't think they'd care much anyways.
Sam and Kira had spent nearly the whole of the last year trying to find Jamie. He, however, didn't seem to want to be found. It was clear he was hiding. After Nat had found the tape of him at the Captain America exhibition, only small signs of Jamie had shown up. First, they came from across North America, but later they started up in Europe. Mentions in police reports of someone sketchy near a crime scene with long brown hair, wearing a baseball cap, covering his face. Weird acts of kindness from a quiet man with a metal prosthetic arm. A mysterious stranger, walking to compensate for some heavy weight on his left, moving into an apartment, ignoring everyone and then quickly moving out again. It was still promising. Even if his movements never made sense.
There had been a tip-off, recently, to the police in Rome. A man with shoulder-length brown hair had reportedly stopped a bullet with his left hand. Of course, no one had taken it seriously. It was 'impossible'. Which was precisely why they had managed to hear about it. After some digging around, Kira found someone willing to sell her, through less than legal means, CCTV footage of the alley the day it took place. She had to decrypt it herself, though.
The laptop somehow whirred even louder now but didn't seem to be working any faster. It was so bad even Sam was starting to worry, glancing over at it one too many times. She was just glad it was badly encrypted. If the encryption was advanced, it would've needed a much more powerful device, the type only Tony had access to and that was a no-go. Plus, the laptop was old. No one would miss it once it finally croaked.
Still, the laptop was battered enough that the decryption might finish in anywhere from the next few minutes or the next few days. She sighed and looked up at the TV screen, instead. Bad idea. The younger brother was getting all teary-eyed at the older one, who still hadn't recognised him, whilst vaguely talking about their family. Maybe a movie about long-lost siblings wasn't a great idea right now.
The doorbell interrupted them then. Sam looked over at Kira, panicked. "It's okay," she reassured him. "My danger sense isn't going off, it's probably just Steve or Nat." She checked her phone, sighed and then held it up, showing the hour-old text from Tony that they must've missed. "See? It has to be them. They got back a while ago."
"You sure?" he asked.
"No, Sam. I've been lying about my powers this whole time. I'm not even a Super Soldier," she deadpanned.
"Hilarious," he said, sarcastically, getting up to open the door to Steve and letting him in.
"Aren't you guys supposed to be working?" he asked almost as soon as he entered, looking pointedly at the TV, before dumping his bag next to Sam's bed.
"What happened to 'hello'?" Kira muttered into her noodles.
"We are, don't worry," Sam answered, sitting back down. "It's just taking forever to work."
Steve walked over and squished into the small space between his two friends. He stared at the laptop for a while like his glare alone could fix it.
"Hey, Steve?" Kira asked.
"Yeah," he replied, turning to her with his usual kind smile.
"You know the mission?"
"Mm-hmm?"
"...What happened?"
He stared at her blankly for a second. Then, "Oh, right. Shit, sorry." He shook his head as if to clear his thoughts. "Yeah, it went well. You can read the mission report later if you want. Everything happened basically as planned," he told them. "Got Strucker and put him in jail, shut the base down, found Loki's sceptre— actually, there was something off." They looked at him curiously. "We found two enhanced. Twins. About your age." He turned to Kira.
"My age?" she asked sceptically. As Sam always loved to remind her, she was old enough to be his grandma. Great, more sad sibling stories, the voice in the back of her head added, unhelpfully.
"Biologically," he amended. "Think Strucker kidnapped and experimented on them, actually." Kira could almost see him lose his train of thought at the horrible realisation. More kids taken and hurt by Nazis for their own benefit. It was officially the world's shittiest never-ending cycle she would've been naive to think had miraculously stopped with her.
"Well, where are they now?" Sam asked, concerned.
"Not sure. They ran off almost immediately. Can't blame them. We're trying to keep tabs on them for the meantime, though."
"Why? You gonna invite them into the Avengers too? Get a little formerly kidnapped-by-HYDRA boyband going? A bit too specific, don't you think?" Kira joked, darkly. It was a bad habit.
"I mean, maybe. You might make some friends then, Ki." Steve was clearly very proud of himself with that. Kira was not.
"Hey!"
"Ouch."
"Or... you could come to the party Tony's hosting."
"Ugh, I already told you I'm not going," she turned away from them, defensive. "What the fuck am I going to do there? Smile as the richest and most boring people in the city tell me their life stories?"
"Sure. If you have to. At least you'll get in some practice socialising."
"You'll have fun, I promise," Sam tried.
"That's easy for you to say. Everyone loves you. Not many people like casual conversation with a Winter Soldier," she sulked. Kira paused. "Wait." She turned to Steve again. "Did you just say 'practice socialising'? What's that supposed to mean?" she asked, suddenly very offended. I know how to socialise... right? "Sam?"
He was silent for a second, clearly weighing up his options, before blurting out, with a pained look on his face, "Girl, you have no friends."
Kira scoffed. "What are you then?"
"Apart from me."
"And Nat?"
"You've known her forever. She doesn't count."
"Steve?"
"You work together. He doesn't count either."
She scowled at him.
"You've run out of people, haven't you?" Sam asked, a smile creeping up on his face.
"Oh, fuck you." Kira threw a pillow at his head as he burst out laughing.

i was reading through your blog and omg musicals!!!! a theater kid, myself, i'd love if you'd write some headcanons about a broadway/musical star mc, if its not too close to your famous mc headcanons! also, i'd love to hear if you think the ol1 boys can sing and who would help mc practice (both lines and singing)! also who would sing along with mc while they're doing chores/housework/etc or if they'd just listen/hum/etc! you can just assume theyre poly with mc for this, if it makes it easier! :)
Listen. Listen. I love this so much. I am also a theatre kid (so much that I am forced to spell it with the "re" at the end) and I have many thoughts.
Also, Bobby from Company is Baxter after he reconnects with MC and friends, with an MC that ends up with Cove or Derek and this is just a fact. Evidence:
youtube
This is a video of single Baxter with his ten friends in five couples: Cove and MC, Derek and Tamarack, Terry and Miranda, Jude and Scott, and Qiu and OLNF MC.
ANYWAY.
-- Cove is such a fanboy. He's there to see your shows literally every time he can make it and will be disappointed if he can't come. He knows all the words to all the songs and a lot of the dialogue too. He is so proud.
-- Did you get to make a recording of your show? Try to get Cove to play something else in the car, I dare you.
-- Derek is also a big big fan, he is telling anyone who will listen about how he's your friend/boyfriend/husband. Jorge might have to tell him to chill a little bit but he's just so EXCITED.
-- He will make a point to pick you up after your evening shows. The crew knows him, so he just comes backstage after and will walk with you out the stage door. It's late and people are unpredictable, and he wants to keep you safe.
-- Baxter, surprise, also a big fan! If you started Broadway after the breakup in Step 3 then he may not figure it out, Broadway stars aren't as mainstream as movie or pop stars, for example. But he'll obviously find out when you're brought back together in Step 4 and he'll have some much research to do on you during those lost years!
-- He'll be streaming your recordings and just feeling so many things.
-- But maybe in Step 3 you've decided to pursue your theatrical dreams! A last summer at home before you move to New York, perhaps. Let Baxter take your headshots for you! He will be so good at it. He will also style you.
-- If this is the case, that you move after Step 3, I don't think Cove will move too. He could! But I can't picture him leaving the California coast. Long distance love. He and Cliff come in to see your big shows.
-- Cliff cries. Cove does too, he got it from his dad.
-- Maybe Derek will blow off a big game because it's his only chance to come see you. He feels bad about it, but he's not going to miss your big moment.
-- I haven't thought about this too much shut up
-- Boys at the Tonys! Baxter is going to KILL IT. I've talked about this with the general famous MC stuff lol, the awards show stuff, but he's going to dress to impress. So will Derek, this is very important and the boy who wore a polka dot bowtie at 13 isn't going to pull out any stops.
-- You're going to have to tell Cove to button all his buttons though, it's not the time for your cleavage baby
-- I think Baxter is the only one who could carry a tune, but he wouldn't try to get technically good. Cove is bearable with his singing. Derek really is not, but he has so much fun with it that no one would ever tell him to stop.
-- They'll all help you with your lines. Derek might actually learn lines instead of reading them from a script so he can help you practice while he's driving or something. And yeah, that's a lot, but that's just who he is.
-- If you're just having fun singing, in the car or doing chores or whatever, then they'll all sing with you. But if they catch you really going for it in the shower or something, they will all just stop and listen because oh my GOD

I'm gonna come out and say it; No Way Home sucked. Sure, it had some good moments but in my opinion, it does not live up to the first two instalments of the trilogy. I liked the first part of the movie but as soon as I knew where the second part was going, I fell off that train pretty quickly.
Not only did it make MCU Spidey end up with the same tale as his two predecessors but it also undoes Peter's entire establishment in Marvel's overall franchise. What was the point of the last four movies putting him on the roster with Earth's MIGHTIEST Heroes if you were just going to take all that away and make it like he exists in a completely separate world from them? What was the point of the three cameos we had from RDJ, Samuel L. Jackson, and Benedict Cumberbatch in their iconic roles to show that interconnected universe as with every other MCU movie, only for that to be stripped away at the very last second? Might as well have been another one of Sony's solo ventures at making a series after TASM but it's not and that's why I HATE the uncertainty of Peter Parker's future in the MCU. However, given the current failing reality of the MCU with every new movie that comes out, I can already confirm it's nothing good. In fact, it probably would be best if progress stops altogether before Marvel really is stuck in the dust and just a part of a magnificent past with no legacy to carry on. (This is a side note but that is still a big issue for me anyways that I may expand upon later in another post. In the meantime, go watch all the video essays on YouTube, I'm sure you'll find many good ones.)
He had a unique story that fit into the overarching plot of the MCU and the premise he had was different from the previous Spideys which is what was so interesting about his character development. This Peter Parker had friends that weren't introduced before, or at least, they were more developed than in other series; he had a superhero as a mentor, not a scientist turned villain due to unfortunate circumstances; he had a guy in the chair who wasn't after him or turned villain because his father was one, he had two crushes that were friends, he was part of clubs and acted more teenage-like than the last two. He interacts with other heroes, joins the Avengers, fights THE villain, perishes, comes back, loses his mentor, and is still expected to keep on going.
For crying out loud, he was asked if he was going to be the next Iron Man but he knew he wasn't which is what Far From Home set out to show us. And to all those who called him Iron Man Jr. in Homecoming, I hope you know that you make no sense and I think Marvel did a wonderful job making him stand apart. He was a kid admiring one of his role models and now that he actually had a connection to him, of course he was going to want to be like his mentor but even Tony recognized that he wanted him to be more, not like him. This shows Iron Man himself had great respect for the young hero.
Now, moving onto No Way Home, two main things that annoy the heck out of me; Peter being forgotten (obviously) and Aunt May dying. I'll start with Aunt May's death. To be honest, it was a completely unnecessary death and it actually doesn't make sense for the purpose it had in the movie. The punchline "With great power comes great responsibility." loses its premise as soon as you recall Civil War's intro to Peter in the first place. Uncle Ben had already died, Peter was Spider-Man at this point, and remember what Peter told Tony when they met, why the older hero related to him so much? "When you can do the things that I can, but you don't... and then the bad things happen... they happen because of you." So he already learned that lesson on responsibility and by the time we get to No Way Home, this kid had learned lessons also involving the universe at large. Why are we rehashing Uncle Ben's offscreen death with Aunt May if Marvel literally stated that was overdone? Make that make sense. But oh, it was to make something big and dramatic happen in the movie because we needed to mOve aLoNg. Peter lost his parents, his uncle, and mentor; can you come up with something new other than parental figure losses? Why do TASM Peter and OG Peter still have their Aunt Mays and even if it was just a deleted scene, technically TASM Peter's dad? Huh, then what do you say there? Why did MCU Peter Parker have to lose ALL his parental figures?
Finally, the thing that probably broke most of us; Peter being wiped from everyone's memory. As I stated earlier, his entire existence within the MCU just vanishes, like that, in seconds. So......... what was the point of his existence up till now in the MCU? What was the point of his specific development and growth if he was just going to get forgotten? Why was he meticulously introduced at the height of the Avengers' conflict and then constantly involved with some other MCU hero/important character if he was going to be removed from that? If the Avengers were never a big deal, why make him a part of that at all and why were we still bringing them up at the climax of the film? For those who bring up the argument that he's supposed to be a solitary hero, well that was the worst way to have introduced him then, right? But Marvel chose that route, not any other. Which is why that decision still makes no sense to me. You put him in a world where he wasn't the only superhero and he was going to interact with other heroes which none of the other Spider-Men had and that already put him in a unique position. Why give him a background that was going to get swiped?
Imagine that, making five blockbuster films that gave him a firm standing in the MCU at the peak of Phase 3 and then in his sixth film, his last standalone which is supposed to be his most shining moment, he gets the rug pulled out from underneath him to give him a blank slate? You might as well have thrown every script out from 2015 to 2019 including him before they were ever written or considered. It's the equivalent of undoing everything you just worked on in a school project that's worth 40% of your final grade. Think about that for a second. Marvel just undid 6 years of work and investment in a single character for them to go back to the beginning. Why didn't you just do that then from the start? You could have had more classic Spidey a long time ago by that train of thought (which I really didn't want because we already saw that twice and this Spidey was something fresh).
Anyways, thanks for reading. This is 2 years worth of disappointment and frustration put on the page.

So I'm actually very glad you came back, among many others I'm sure :D Esepecially because I recently saw a post by Sineala stating the difference between 616 vs MCU Steve and Tony, and she said people should ask someone else if they wanted to know about the MCU. So, I really wanted to ask you from your perspective what you think the difference is, because you seem to like MCU the most! This is the post.
sineala(.)tumblr(.)com/post/172540509139/whats-the-difference-between-tony-and-steve-from
Thank you and welcome back :DDD
oohh i know that post and i love that post 🤗 i learn so much about 616 from sineala, her fic and meta are more sacred to me than comic canon i'm so serious about that
i feel like i read the comics very chaotically and so most of my limited firsthand knowledge is very.. incidental. but if you're looking for someone who has spent too much of her time obsessing about every stevetony related detail in the mcu i am your girl <3
mcu steve makes me go *heart eyes* because even though he's very fighty and very stubborn (the core steve rogers traits across the multiverse), i think as a generalisation mcu steve is sadder and 616 steve tends to be angrier?? in my opinion he's gentler, quieter, more reserved and measured and forgiving than his 616 counterpart and that's one of the reasons he's so attractive to me because i think he's actually so soft!!
also- mcu steve did the best with the hand he was dealt but he did not at all have the support system that 616 steve when he came out of the ice :'( in the comics the avengers are the ones who find steve, but in the movies it's a group of shield agents who get a call from an oil team. the first thing that happens to mcu steve when he wakes up is that he gets lied to (shield puts him in that fake hospital room and tries to convince him it's still the 1940s to ""ease him in""), and then between waking up in 2011 and meeting the avengers in 2012, he's completely alone. there's an amazing deleted scene from a1 that shows steve wandering around new york by himself and his loneliness is palpable
i think this also relates to their ideas of home in the 21st century. 616 steve seems very sure about the fact that tony gave him a home, his home is with tony and the avengers, but mcu steve spends a long time searching for a place to call home. even in catws, when he's been in the 21st century for 3 years, he still has books stacked on the floor of his apartment and paintings he hasn't hung up yet. a year later in aou, sam asks if he's found a place in brooklyn yet, and steve says he doesn't think he could afford a place in brooklyn, and sam says "home is home" and steve sort of just stops smiling and goes quiet and looks away. the only place he calls home in the movies is avengers compound, once in aou when tony asks if he's alright and steve says "i'm home" and once in infinity war when sam asks where they're going and steve says "home" (referring again to the compound). and when the compound gets blown to bits in endgame, even that's gone
on the other hand mcu tony seems more well adjusted than 616 tony and that felt like a deliberate choice based on the scenes that didn't make it into the movie. for example ,there's a deleted scene from im1 where pepper finds tony on the floor the morning after a party, drinking in his iron man suit and he's bleeding and there's a wisp of smoke coming from his armour and he is clearly not doing well, and an alternative opening scene for im2 that they didn't use where tony is vomiting and altogether freaking out a little bit before the stark expo
tony's alcoholism and sobriety is an important part of his 616 character, and there's the birthday party scene in im2 where tony gets drunk to cope with the fact that he's dying, but other than that and mysterio casually calling tony a "boozy man-child" in spiderman ffh, it's not really part of his mcu character
there's also the childhood trauma he has from howard, 616 howard was horribly abusive!!!!! a lot of people dislike mcu howard for not showing tony affection growing up etc, but the mcu portrays that father-son relationship in a more complicated light so you do see people split over tony forgiving him in the end. for example tony invents the new element in im2 with the help of howard's old tapes and notes and goes "dead for almost 20 years and still taking me to school," tony tells steve "my father made that shield" "he made it for you," and there's the full on reconciliation scene tony has with howard in endgame (also we get to see young howard stark in catfa and agent carter and he is honestly so likeable there, which still confuses me to this day but anyway)
and in the comics tony sees himself as more separate from iron man, hence the secret identity, and it feels like he sees iron man as his repentance and as having only his good qualities, someone he wishes he could be? but they tossed that right out at the end of im1 when tony literally says "i am iron man," which was a very clear rejection of the identity-crisis component of his 616 character, and they drive it home again when it's his last line in endgame. i think mcu tony sees iron man as an almost inextricable part of himself which i really love about him, and it makes sense because 616 tony hates himself so much more than mcu tony does ;_;
in terms of steve and tony's relationship, they have such a long history of friendship in the comics which makes the civil war arc hurt more but i feel like they always have that friendship as a bedrock to keep building and rebuilding their relationship on, whereas in the mcu they get off on the wrong foot and tiptoe around a very fragile relationship/disproportionately deep feelings for a few years but don't trust each other enough for a long time and that's the reason their civil war happens, and it's only at the end of their canon that they resolve it and really come together
there's also the romantic relationships- they both have several significant love interests in the comics but just one true love in the movies, it's always been peggy for steve and pepper for tony, but i think that's more due to the nature of the mcu being one movie canon and 616 spanning so many more years and going through so many more writers
now i'm just rambling but they shifted a lot of the characters around in steve's life as well, like the role sharon plays in the comics is diluted in the movies and peggy and natasha are the two most important women in his life instead because they're the ones who give him that support and guidance. also mcu stevebucky doesn't really exist in the same way in the comics because they didn't grow up childhood friends with bucky being protective over steve, they met in the military and bucky is a few years younger than steve in the comics, so steve was a mentor to him

May as well pop this, let's try the Adult Swim cartoons. Favorite character from their initial wave of shows: Space Ghost Coast to Coast (technically started on Cartoon Network first before Adult Swim began in 2001 but it gets lumped in as Adult Swim these days), Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law, Seelab 2021, The Brak Show, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, and Home Movies (began on UPN but continued production under Adult Swim). Throwing in Baby Blues, Mission Hill, and The Oblongs as bonuses that began on The WB but also finished on Adult Swim when The WB didn't bother finishing airing them.
Thank you. I may gloss over some later stuff, and you don't seem as into adult animation, so I appricate this. (And correct me if i'm wrong on that). Plus I can see you like doing these. But I grew up on the shows in this block's early days and some of it's middle days, so let's cook.
Space Ghost Coast to Coast: Moltar. IT's a hard choice as the main trio as a whole are all uniquely great, but I love his awkwardness and hidden monstrosity. And his attempts at knife fights. Coast to Coast is excellent and well worth checking out if you haven't. It's funny, got only funnier with time, and a handful of it's best stuff lives rent free in my head, something common among a lot of adult swim shows. And while this did predate adult swim, Space Ghost feels like why the block happened at all and it's earliest shows that weren't taken from the WB or UPN all kinda ape the formula of taking a classic cartoon and bending it, and joined it as soon as the block formed. Without it we woudln't have all these other great shows... I mean we might but it's a razor thin margin. It had a perfect comedic trio of the egotistical stupid manchild spaceghost, the cooler but blantatly evil and self destructive zorak and the also evil but awkward as hell moltar. A true classic and I badly miss C Martin Croker who played Zorak and Moltar and wrote this classic.
Harvey BIrdman Attorney at Law: WHOSE THAT CAT WITH THE BEAKKKKKKKKKKK? This theme song is dope as hell and is the reason this got made. Okay so faviorite character is Phil. HA HA obvious choice. But Stephen Colbert owns every scene he's in as Phil and the show rolls with it as it goes, letting Phil just getting into weird fucking hyjinks, the highlight being blackwatch plad where he hallucinates several things that never existed being stolen, somehow reads harvey's thoughts and institutes code rush's seminal album moving pictures. This show was a lot of funa nd introduced me to the bulk of hannah barbera's catalogue, finding fun ways to deconstruct the classic libraries from Fred as Tony Soprano to leaning on the fact Shaggy isn't actually a stoner but really, REALLY comes off as one, while getting better as it went by expanding on it's own weird cast, with Peter Potamus in paticular being pretty great. Add in some great Stephen Colbert performances before he had to leave for his own show, a killer soundtrack and one of Gary Cole's best performances as our bumbling hero just kind of ping ponged around by his clients and zany boss, and you have a show I now really want to rewatch. Adult swim would have better and shows I rewatched more, but the power of attorney is still strong to this day.
The Brak Show: Dad. George Lowe is just allowed to go into incredibly weird places with this man and I support it. The show itself is an underated classic these days, and while I try not to be too old man yelling at those them kids, this is a show the younger set who didn't grow up with it shoudl check out as it's absurd goodness. Brak started on space ghost and cartoon planet, but was too big to contain resulting in this lovely bit of nonsense that defined what an adult swims how not riffing on a cartoon could be. I mean it still did a little as it kept brak and zorak from space ghost but recast them as a loveable teen dummy and an agent of chaos.. the same people but in a new scenario that let them go hog wild. The show even got experimental as it went with batshit weirdness like Braklet Prince of Spaceland that puts the cast in hamlet (And dad as hamle'ts dad sans pants) or all I desire is you where the cast is suddenly in a soap opera). It's good stuff with a psycho musical, an election where Dad claims his opponent is killing pets with pet bombs nad fails the instant he actually has to debate, and of course
Tumblr media
Sealab 2021: Accidently put this one out of order but it might be my faviorite of this batch, with one other jockeying for the crown. Captain Murphy is my faviorite and while the show had a few classics after his actor Harry Goz's tragic passing, it never felt quite the same. Sealab 2021 is the first abriged series and a damn good one. While the show skidded at times, at it's peak this was just pure comedic chaos under the sea, and the cast bounced off each other amazingly. The show wasn't afraid to experiment either and out of the shows here, while brak dabbled later, seemed to do it the most and made it stand out: as early as the end of season 1 we got a waking life full episode take, an episode following the cast as actors on the show, my personal faviorite tinfins that takes this concept and applies it to the making of a movie, a backwards episode, and one repeating the same running gag with variations over and over. The show had a great ensemble, mostly anchored by goz and later his son, and cemented Adam Reed as a legend in adult comedy.
Home Movies: Coach McGurik. It was John Benjamins brekout: While Dr Katz had welcomed him tot he world, McGurik made him a star and would eventually lead him to bob and archer, and he's still one of his best roles, a sardonic drunk who bonds with kids, yet also should not be around them and once claimed BRENDON SMALL IS ON DRUGS and tried to get a bunch of children to do an intervention.
youtube
I could honestly quote McGuirk moments all day and he frankly stole the show half the time, to the point the bulk of later seasons has him in his own weird b-plot, from gambing on a boat with the host of his seminar, to buying a bunch of swords when drunk, to telling a bunch of kids to go upstairs in a hurricane because being in the same rooms mean they'll all bump into each other. The last one isn't a subplot, it's just comedy gold.
The show had an easy dry improved style: While they did put in scripts after the first season, it was still mostly "get to this point" and let Brendon Small, a voice acting and comedy legend in his own right, and co cook. The result is a funny show with detailed charcters: Narccisitc control freak at only the third grade brendon, entirely out of it jason, only sane woman till she isn't melissa and Brendon's mom Paula who alternates between voice of reason to her child and her life being a hurricane. It's one of the best shows Adult Swims ever made and they hit the jackpot pickign it up
Mission Hill: Gus. While the joke could easily be "GET IT THE GUY IS REALLY MANLY BUT HE'S GAYYYY" they let him go beyond that and while his queerness is integral to who he is, he's also funny> We also get that great subplot of a knife just.. jutting out of his shoulder for a whole episode. The show itself is pretty good and worth a revisit from me, a nice hipster's pardise. The odd couple coulld get boring but Andy and Kevin play off each other well: Andy does need to grow the hell up, and I like the reveal both of his friends, while also cooler than thou slackers.. do actually have stable jobs. not saying a 9 to 5 job is growing up, I don't have one, but more that andy needed to change as a person and the series lets him grow, while Kevin bursts out of his shella nd misconceptions. The show was too good to last and i'm sad the spinoff fell apart. It was fantastic.
Baby Blues: Carl. What could easily be just the more grumbly testorone guy to the goofy darryl is a pretty fun slob. The show itself was solid. Is it anything like the comic strip? Honestly not really, having read the strip both early and not: It does deal with the difficulties of having a baby (Something Zoey was for the early years of the strip), but it's more it's own thing and honestly finding baby blues mid, that's a good thing as the show baby blues is pretty solid. Nothing super standout, but still memorable enough to stick in the brain.
The Oblongs: Down in the Valley where the chemical spill. Pickles. it was, unbenownst to me my first experince with jean smart and it's a good one. This is a show i'll give another shot someday as I wasn't a huge fan as a kid but in hindsight. it's really good. not nearly as mean spirited as I thought.

Since we kinda know each other a lil bit I am brave enough to ask....what's the appeal of Cap/Tony to you? I know a tooooon of people ship this and I never really got the appeal (but I would love to get it this is not a AND HERE IS HOW YOU'RE WRONG question I am genuinely asking...)
Ooooooooh. I am actually thrilled about you asking me this because Cap/Tony is one of my oldest and pretty much the most beloved OTPs of all time <3
I got into Marvel during the waiting period for the 2012 Avengers movie. Cap and Tony hadn't even met onscreen yet, so what I did, like most people back during that time, was: I turned to the comics. And in the comics ... well. Their friendship has been established over decades of various comic arcs.
They're pretty much like yin and yang, opposites that complement each other, past vs. future, idealist vs. cynic, the team parents, soulmates friends that will find each other in every universe and just need to be at each others side. They banter a lot (which can sometimes come off as flirty, especially from Tony's side), they have nicknames for each other (winghead and shellhead).
Tumblr media
Especially Tony grew up idolizing Captain America and describes finding him frozen in a block of ice as the greatest day of his life. (I think he canonically has a room full of Cap memorabilia and merch but I can't find the scans to back that up right now.) He once opened his faceplate surrounded by toxic gas to give Steve mouth to mouth/CPR, because he thought keeping Steve alive was more important than his own life (x).
Tumblr media
Things Tony once said to or about Steve:
I'm not half as good at anything as when I'm doing it next to you.
you were my rudder, steering me when others couldn’t
I miss your battle cry
And then there was Civil War. It was a huge event in the comics that had an impact on pretty much everything and Steve and Tony were the heart of that dispute. See, that conflict was mostly shoehorned and silly, but it was an angsty gold mine for shippers. A lot of what happened hit so hard because Steve and Tony had such a special and deep friendship. And then, in the aftermath of Civil War, Steve gets shot and dies. Tony, feeling partly responsible for what happened, completely loses it. He's supposed to hold a speech at Steve's funeral, but he breaks down crying in front of everyone before he can finish it. In one of the spin-off comics you can see Tony sitting beside Cap's dead body, pouring his heart out. And Tony, having played the villain throughout the entire Civil War, having betrayed and lost friends because he fought for what he thought was right (something he learned from Cap!), bitterly admits: "It wasn't worth it." (This is a callback to when Steve angrily asked him "was it worth it?" - Tony didn't have an answer back then.) (x)
Tumblr media
Fun Fact! In one of the multiverses, Civil War canonically gets resolved because Tony is a woman and marries Steve:
Tumblr media
Movie!Cap and movie!Tony had a very different dynamic. They were more of a enemies/rivals to friends (to lovers) kind of thing - which is also fun! - but A Lot of aforementioned comic canon bled over to how I and many over fans depicted/interpreted them. And that was a lot of fun, for a while. Except over time and with every new movie that go released, it got clear that the MCU had no interest in actually making them and showing them be friends. They were begrudging co-workers at most (and not just Tony and Steve, the whole team besides Tasha and Clint were rarely shown to have meaningful interactions) and that took away a lot of the impact of Captain America: Civil War.
So yeah. It's this deep and meaningful friendship that draws me to Steve and Tony. I still ship them in the MCU, but it certainly got soured a little by what the movies did (or didn't do) with their friendship.

ooooh I'd love to hear your thoughts about bruce & steve!!!! even if they're rambly lol i love how they're the unlikely introverts of the og6 and how they're somehow connected through the serum! i also really love their first meeting and how respectful steve is about not caring about the hulk!! (i LOVE tony but everytime someone is like "tony was the first one to be friendly to bruce" im like but what about steve!!!!)
AHHH! You have given me the gift of a lifetime. I will absolutely take this opportunity to ramble about Bruce and Steve and everything I think about them before I hit talk fatigue. Please walk with me slowly here because I'm afraid I'm not gonna make a lick of sense 😭 I almost feel like I should rewatch The Avengers and The Hulk movies before typing this...I might...LONG POST!
Ok so Bruce's whole life was consumed by the serum right? He must know every goddamn thing there is to know about Steve, physically at least. In fact, I'd go as far to say that Steve was little more than a subject, a project to him before they met (and maybe Bruce still secretly saw Steve as a something rather than a person before he took time to know him). And you can't fully blame him for seeing Steve that way cause Steve was dead when Bruce was trying to recreate the serum. All this to say that Bruce spent a lot of fucking time studying Steve Rogers and imagine his....awe and fascination when the main subject of his research was right before him. I could imagine Bruce staring at Steve, cataloging every shift he makes. The peak of his life's work - the only success story of the serum that ruined his life, finally reachable. Bruce might even feel...not bitter, but melancholy mixed with his fascination.
I actually took the time to rewatch The Incredible Hulk just now and poor Bruce omg :/ It makes what you said about Steve and Bruce's first meeting even more heartwarming. Steve immediately saying that he doesn't care about the fear surrounding Hulk and whatnot and he MEANS it.
"Word is you can find the cube."
"Is that the only word about me?"
"Only word I care about."
FIRST meeting! And yknow one thing that gets me heated is how some fans will say "Oh but Steve was scared of the Hulk when Tony was poking him yadda yadda" - Nope! Or at least not really. At this point, Steve's only interactions with Tony were being needled and mocked by him. It seemed to me (even on my first watch!) that Steve genuinely thought Tony was bothering Bruce, being mean or - God forbid - being a BULLY. And you know that's Steve's trigger word. Of course he's finna say something. Not to mention he was already irritated with the whole Tesseract mess.
I think Bruce is mostly curious about Steve('s body) at first. About the blood running through his veins. About how the key to unlocking human invulnerability lies within him. Must be a heady feeling. Kind of erotic (but not necessarily sexual if that makes sense).
I can imagine that Steve would be uncomfortable with this knowledge at first, knowing that Bruce is a product of attempted recreation. I think Steve in general is just very upset with what the serum's legacy has produced since he went in the ice and so having an outcome right in front of him, as a teammate, is something that can be hard to face. Up till then, the only "failed" subject for the serum he's encountered was the Red Skull and we all know how that turned out. Overall, I think Steve wants people to stop messing with things beyond their control especially when they're trying to weaponize it. That's why he's so pissed with the Tesseract situation in AV1. Despite this, Steve clearly doesn't hold it against Bruce. He also knows the truth about what happened in Harlem (as opposed to what the WSC said), else he wouldn't be open to working with him. Steve, if anything, would want to grow closer to him, maybe. Knowing how the whole world shuts him out at first glance because they're terrified of the Hulk would drive Steve to do the exact opposite.
Also, let's get into Bruce's morality. Anti-military, wanted to avoid all use of the Hulk if necessary - but he knows its going to be necessary at some point. And he probably dreads the day that Steve calls him up to the plate to unleash the Hulk in combat. Steve got Hulk's cooperation on day ONE. Hulk trusts Steve from the get go which is kind of insane! But Bruce knows that on any given day, Steve is going to choose the lives of citizens over Bruce's desire to never use the Hulk. He doesn't resent Steve for it (maybe a little, but not a hateful resentment) but he knows.
Just now realizing this far in that I'm talking about a version of Bruce that isn't really present in the MCU tbh. I mostly take my Bruce characterization from The Incredible Hulk and Avengers 1 and that's it 🥴. I feel like they didn't really know what to do with his character...or didn't want to fully explore his psyche properly. But that's a different topic.
Anyways, some of my all time favorite Bruce characterization comes from an ao3 author named lettered. They wrote "Let's Stop The Time Warp (Again)" and "The Hollow Men" which are both stellar if you want to read Bruce and Steve in such real ways.
Whew...re-reading this post....just as I thought, barely coherent but this won't be the only time I talk about these two - hopefully next time I'll have proper words to say! Thanks for giving me a chance to spew my Bruce/Steve thoughts out like this! ♡

(Spoiler for Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story — up until episode 7, also there’s a bit of a rant)
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: Just to let you know that I’m not one of those fangirls that falls in love with serial killers, this is just me simply commenting on a part of the movie. This does not mean that I condone anything that he had done or even justifying what he did. I’m just a normal guy that is very honest about my opinions and just wanted to express that.
I do give my condolences to the families and friends of victims that are affected by Jeffrey Dahmer though.
Update: I just found out that the part that I spoke about with Tony and Jeffrey didn’t actually happen. He basically lured him into his house like literally every other victims. It’s quite sad that Netflix would make a movie out of something that real and is still affecting families and would get some details wrong. I could see why they changed it slightly for the dramatic effects, but this shouldn’t be taken lightly as it should.
Although I am upset that Netflix would do such a thing and not even at least fact check, I will keep my vent up since I did wanted to let it out. Also, I do wanted to make people not feel alone in this since I also really liked them together.
Please note that I didn’t make this post out of disrespect since this is me reacting to a movie adaptation that I watched. Any misinformation, I will address.
I can’t be the only one that shipped Jeffrey and Tony together. It had seemed as if he found someone that understands him and would do the same back.
I even loved how when they saw each other they would literally hugged and then their little moments on that date. They were smiling and giggling at each other. I really thought this was when we could finally see that he could find this “missing person” that makes him feel like someone after going through a lot of trauma growing up, especially with the fact that he has been an outcast from his high school class where people would bully him so much that they would literally scribble him out of the yearbook.
Even the part where he didn’t ended up drugging him, I thought that was when he finally realised that he did found this person he was looking for all these years and that he could finally change it up. Or even if he doesn’t change, he could still be partners in crime as they would lure more victims in for threesomes or orgies and then drug them before killing them or something. At this point, I didn’t care. As long as Tony would be alive and be Jeffrey’s boyfriend, that was all I ever wanted, and I’d be so glad to hear that.
Sadly, his anger and detachment issues got the best of him as he still couldn’t get the hint that people has lives and needed to work, so he just murdered him just like that.
The moment I found out that Tony died, my heart sank. This was his best match and all of his interactions with the man was nothing but positive and full of genuine chemistry. I even had to awe so loudly when he kissed him on the cheek or when he managed to get his signs right. I was literally rooting for him, like a cheerleader. I was so glad he was able to have those feelings for him and to even have him decide last minute not to poison his drink like he would always do to his victims. I was so happy for Jeffrey and the fact that he could had possibly found his first actual boyfriend.
I’m still sad as I lay in my room thinking about the events that could occur if he never killed him. You know, like more dates such as a walk in the park with Jeffrey holding a camera so they could take pictures since Tony wanted to be a model, or even a road trip or something. Or even them getting married after gay marriage has finally be legalised where they live. I wanted to see them grow old together and maybe even spend the rest of their lives until they died. Even if they do go behind bars due to murder or anything, I’d still be glad because they would always have each other regardless.
Man… if only he knew that people go to work, just like how he did. However, they would still love him just as much. This guy is so fucked up in the head that he was blinded by his own ignorance. Tony loves him, and he knows that. He just needed to go to work because he needs to get money for himself, just like the fact that he needed to get money just to find an apartment that he could afford. Why can’t he just understand such thing?
Tony really didn’t deserve that treatment from Jeffrey. He gave so much love to him that it even touched his heart and yet he still killed him. All just because he works and took that to heart. The man even had to reassure him that just because he’s not with him doesn’t mean he doesn’t love him. Bless his heart. He died trying to explain to his possibly love of his life that he still loves him even though he’s not with him.
I still cry every time I imagine that scene when he confessed. He’s really a sick man that killed someone as innocent as Tony. I know this is a show, but this is based in real life experiences. I’m still upset now, but I know he’s in a good place somewhere. Jeffrey deserves someone, but not Tony. In fact, it should be nobody at all that would give him that kind of love and then get death returned to them.
Rest in peace, Tony.

Movie Review | Monster Hunter (Anderson, 2020)
Tumblr media
Maybe I was more tired than I realized watching this, or maybe I'm just getting dumber and reacting to movies on the level of pure sensation than actually trying to keep track of narrative elements, but I had a weirdly difficult time following along with this. I won't rule out those first two reasons, but I also found this awkwardly paced. One can charitably describe this as "lean", in that we're basically hit with incident after ostensibly exciting incident, and it's refreshing when a movie isn't bogged down in exposition, especially for potential future sequels (although this annoyingly ends with a cliffhanger and post-credits scene). But I still expect a movie to set things up and sell us on the significance of certain developments. Perhaps I was too zoned out to notice all the intricate groundwork this might have been laying, but it seemed that every few minutes we were getting hit with a new monster that it never bothered to set up, rushing through the confrontation so as to undermine any awe the monster might inspire, and the racing along to the next action scene. There's no breathing room, no moments to sit back and savour what the movie's serving.
I also think some of that lack of awe stems from the visuals, largely the 2.35:1 aspect ratio, which often suggests grandeur when deployed in the more tactile epics of yore, but feels claustrophobic here, undercutting any real grasp of the monsters' size. And while I understand there was actual location shooting, the CGI-assisted cinematography renders everything plastic in a way I often found unpleasant to look at. Paul W.S. Anderson is a director I've been unable to fully embrace, and I don't think this makes a particularly good case for him. His affinity for clean geometric compositions clashes with the desert setting, as whatever order he finds in the manufactured interiors of his Resident Evil movies is totally absent here, and the plain desert landscape leaves a dearth of interesting things in the frame to look at. And while the action is less incoherent than in the last Resident Evil movie, the cutting is still too frantic to let any of the juicier images breathe. I will at least say that the confrontations here at least seem free of the inconsequential back-and-forths and arbitrary denouements of his fight scenes elsewhere. And there are individual images, like the shells piling up as the heroine fires a machine gun, or the part where she whips out a rocket launcher, that made a direct appeal to my inner fifteen-year-old, the dork who saw the end of the first Resident Evil when the heroine pumped a shotgun and the camera pulled back and thought it was the coolest shit ever (but then waited over a decade to watch the whole movie for fear that the movie would actually be lame, which sadly turned out to be the case).
Despite the fact that production was completed prior to the pandemic, this definitely feels like a pandemic-era "blockbuster" with its small, weirdly insular and artificial world, but I suppose Anderson's movies have always been modestly scaled and budgeted for special effects extravaganzas. I do wonder if my growing interest over the past few years in '90s studio vehicles has been a subconscious reaction to this, as those movies offer large casts, seemingly lived-in worlds and tactile pleasures. This one has a bunch of randos that it fails to define with any personality and throws in even more randos in the third act, although I did enjoy the chemistry between Milla Jovovich and Tony Jaa, who bring their own brands of charisma to the material, and for some reason there's an anthropomorphized cat not unlike the one in Dragon Ball Z, and I will never say no to Ron Perlman showing up at any stage in a movie.

Note
Hi! I hope you have been feeling even better already in the last few days. I finally watched Poor Things this weekend! I liked it and think Emma deserved her Oscar...for her acting from a child to a grown woman but it also wasn't my kind of movie either. But it was funny and entertaining, but then at some point felt almost like another movie and also a bit long. It also made sex a big part of the movie and like it's necessary to being a woman. The Barbie comparisons are pretty funny but it was also almost nothing like Barbie, and the humor is a bit different, but I still liked both. The difference is I wouldn't want or need to watch Poor Things again, even though I still think it's a good movie.
Honestly I never went back and listened to the soundtrack for either one but maybe I will. That sounds like a good plan. The movie and stage musical of Cabaret are pretty different honestly but I would still recommend it. I actually watched a bootleg of it first with Emma Stone as Sally and the movie shortly after, so I was surprised the movie didn't have as many songs. I think the only reference is when Dove Cameron's character working at somewhere like the Kit Kat club though and Ariana Debose Maybe this time ish song. I don't remember the movie Brigadoon very much but I think it's only reference in the plot of the show..a place that comes back every 100 years. I've only seen the Gene Kelly movie though, a long time ago. Almost like Being in Love is my favorite song.
Was it the Aaron bootleg...lol. I think he makes a pretty good Sweeney actually and like his version of Epiphany. Also another fun fact is that Next to Normal was the 2nd bootleg I ever watched...cuz I couldn't find a Newsies one at the time lol even though I watched the Disney movie at that point. Anyway I'm excited for the other Gatsby too..although Isaac Powell seems pretty young to me. That's so interesting about making Nick gay though..I thought the character Jordan Baker was supposed to be his gf...but I haven't read it so idk. Maybe I finally will and try to watch a bootleg of this one eventually. I will watch it for Jeremy and Eva anyway even if it's bad. One of the other songs,I heard, his love song to Daisy, kinda sounded a little like Colors of the Wind, which to me didn't sound that bad. But that's just my opinion..and it's fine to disagree especially if it's something you really love. I hope the next one is even better and will probably have a different tone to it anyway based on what we already know so far. I'm glad you're happy with it. The Outsiders seems alright too and I also just heard a couple songs from Water For Elephants. I hope I can look into it more and listen to some cast recordings if they're out when Tonys get closer.
Do you have anymore or newer favorites from Tortured Poets yet? I like it a lot more now..I think it was just a lot to take in and I hope you were able to listen to it properly now. Haha something similar to me has happened to me before but it's usually because my sister is the one who is too tired to stay up and listen. I think my favorites have stayed the same but I've been appreciating other songs more too. What are your favorites from the Anthology? This week I'm going to play it on shuffle and sometimes that helps me notice my favorites more. When we heard about the Anthology and how many new songs there were, my sister said she was probably gonna add more songs on tour which makes sense. I just think it's hard to predict which songs cuz there's so many and people can have a lot of different favorites. But I could definitely see Fortnight, Tortured Poets or Down Bad, Who's afraid of Little Old Me, maybe But Daddy I Love Him, but it's kinda long and it depends if she is cutting songs. Also definitely I Can Do it with a Broken Heart and/or Clara Bow, if she doesn't wanna sing that one. I think the circus choreography is for Who's afraid of little old me. I'm not sure about the Anthology honestly, but I think for surprise songs since they are mostly acoustic and it seems like a good amount already if she's not cutting songs. I also still think she'll sing Castles Crumbling with Hayley too. It's so cool you're going to another show at the end of the year. I'm sorry if I forgot anything..I wanted to reply since it's been a few days. 🩷
helloooo! i'm feeling a lot better, but have been migraine-plagued for the last two days + still wheezing a bit — victorian child immune system, it's okay. it's been sunny today, i'm excited for the weekend, for warmer weather! how are you friend?
i haven't been watching many movies lately! but i did finally start graceland 🫡 did not watch it in 2013. but here we are in 2024. just incredibly humbling behavior. i feel like a court jester. i was talking to one of my best friends about cabaret, because she likes it a lot, and i was reading about the revival reviews! very interesting to see how different the reception is here, vs. the west end (and similarly, with back to the future). it's been a while (probably like three years, if not longer) since i've felt ... invested? in theatre in this way where i'm looking at reviews + grosses + boards + etc. again. so that's been fun for me! what do you think of the tony nominations? are you rooting for any show, or any person in particular?
almost like being in love is such a beautiful song! ugh i loveeee musical love songs. i've been listening to my musicals playlist a lot lately. which has actually been really fun for me!
and of course it was the aaron bootleg 😔 i actually really liked his take on sweeney, but i am 1) incredibly biased + 2) am not a sweeney person! i can't even remember what the first bootleg i watched was, it's been so long. but next to normal is another show that is very dear to me. i've been meaning to watch the west end boot at some point. i have actually only seen the newsies movie once, but i loveeeee the musical. i have no idea how long you've been following me, but i used to be a Newsies Blog. newsies is just very dear to my heart; it's the first show i saw on broadway.
i'm currently rereading gatsby (albeit slowly) and i love it; i loved my english teacher back then + the discussions we would have and she really helped me further my love of reading + analyzing text, and so gatsby is very special to me! isaac powell is actually closer in age to gatsby in canon than jeremy is — gatsby is 32, isaac is 29, jeremy is 39! i like kerrigan-lowdermilk's stuff (the mad ones, etc) but didn't really care for kait kerrigan's stuff on her own; i like nathan tysen's tuck everlasting but aside from that haven't really loved his stuff. so i was always a little hesitant about this production of gatsby, but think that the show just misses the mark on a lot of the themes in the original text. i hope it finds its audience; i'm clearly just not one of those people! and that's okay!
i'm really intrigued by the outsiders; haven't read the book or seen the musical but i've always wanted to. so since i'm embarking on my english class reading journey maybe i'll pick that up when i'm done with gatsby (or the iliad). i like paul alexander nolan (once, bright star, daddy long legs) so i'm curious about water for elephants but haven't checked it out yet!
the songs from tortured poets that i regularly listen to are: fortnight, down bad, but daddy i love him, guilty as sin?, i can do it with a broken heart, the black dog, i hate it here, i look in people's windows, the prophecy and the manuscript. i've been hearing things about more songs coming and i just ... i don't even know if i want them at this point. there's so many songs already. it is just so much to take in. but tour starts up soon! so that'll be fun to see what she changes and what she does for surprise songs. i'm not going to lie, every time i see "clara bow" i still think of bonnie & clyde haha. i could see her adding but daddy, i can do it with a broken heart, and would be curious if fortnight would not have post malone's verse! i think it'll be fun to see her sing castles crumbling, but i wonder if she'll cut long live :( my friend was really looking forward to hearing long live live :(
hope you're doing well and having a good day! have a good weekend if we don't chat before then! xx

She was pushed hard by Marvel as a diverse female, and never succeeded in the way that they hoped given the investment. When Leftists claim that Marvel never tried to have female main characters, it's a lie - from memory, she led the Avengers and was on the cover of the box for the RPG. She has a few fans but was d tier. Her costume was actually a pretty good one - but it had to be sanitised for "a modern audience".
Can't have a sexy woman - that's misogyny!
I don't think she was ever as interesting as Carol Danvers Ms Marvel. She has her fans though.
Tumblr media
That character - to the left of Thor - her outfit had to be totally castrated for the Leftists when they took over - was one of the sexiest and most sexually orientated of the Marvel universe. She was always waking up in someone else's bed with a hangover and regrets. She had relationships with Mar Vell (sp?), the man who was the original Captain Marvel. I vaguely recall reading his stories but he is mostly remembered for his death nowadays. e.g. "Carol ... asks about Mar-Vell and finds out that he is dead, she transforms into Binary and flies away. She looks for Mar-Vell's grave, and when she finds it, she mourns not for the fact that he's gone, but that she feels no emotion for his passing.
She recalls how they met and how they fell for each other. She leaves his grave, and afterwards, Logan finds her watching the sunset over the ocean. She tells him of her emotional detachment caused by Rogue..."
https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Marvel_Fanfare_Vol_1_24 Again, removing the X-Men from her story makes her characterisation empty. She's much more interesting with Rogue and shouldn't have been included unless they were willing to have the X-Men in the main universe. She also had relationships with many other superheroes e.g. https://www.marvel.com/amp/articles/comics/captain-marvel-carol-danvers-war-machine-james-rhodes-relationship-timeline She was a lot like Tony Stark in that respect, and he did try to help, but she wasn't interested. She was traumatised and had to cope with having her powers largely stolen by Rogue to the point of near death. I'd still rank that as a C tier. She never really carried stories by herself but was a good side character. https://www.writeups.org/ms-marvel-warbird/
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The current versions of both are F tier. As in, they fail; Wandavision created Monica as a boring character who just affirmed Wanda's terrible choices. The Marvels shows all three in a horrible light, but most seem to agree the psuedo-Muslim Ms Marvel - who is totally different in the comics - was the star of a movie that was supposed to be about Brie Larson. Iman Vellani seems to have some charisma, and only time will tell if she comes out and starts ruining her future like Brie did, by pissing on her own fanbase. Making her character an obsessed fangirl is a weird move. Why would she even know who Captain Marvel was? She was almost completely absent from the series, and most of her action was light years away. It's just a projection of the writers wishes for fans to be obsessed with how cool their characters are.
Tumblr media
I saw a review of the show which said "every woman is gay in the M She U" and I'd have to agree that the Muslim girl here doesn't seem to be straight. And I would have thought her parents would have something to say about her shrine to a false god, but whatever. Come to think of it, how does she even know what Captain Marvel looks like? I don't remember any place where someone would have photographed or filmed her. Her absence from Earth is explicitly a part of her background. The audience knows because we watched the movies. Is she extra-dimensionally aware?
By the way, here's typical examples of how an actual Muslim girl would decorate their bedroom.
https://www.etsy.com/au/market/muslim_girl_bedroom
Tumblr media
She is this weird Leftist vision of a Muslim, who worships an openly Lesbian atheist, and never wears hijab. Yes, the MCU version of Captain Marvel is a lesbian, because "put a chick in it, make it gay, make it lame" is all they know how to do.

Hi luv I was wondering if you could do a Shuri x fem reader, what it would be like to date her/how she would be in a relationship.
If you can't that's ok.
Have a good rest of your day/night luv🫂💕
ღ dating shuri!
hi sun! thank you so much for requesting! it was my first request ever so i’m pretty excited about it lmao, anyway. i’m sorry if there are any mistakes, it was my first time writing headcanons like that and also writing it in english so it was even more of a challenge, but i hope you enjoy them!! love you <3
Tumblr media
navigation // request // me and find the rest!
summary: just some headcanons on what i think meeting/dating shuri would be like
warnings: SPOILERS FOR BP: WAKANDA FOREVER !!!
notes: i didn’t specifically write you as tony stark’s daughter here (but i was imagining it while writing lol) but you’re really interested in technology and everything in this one, i hope it doesn’t bother you. shuri was 16 in the first bp movie so she’s around that age in here, and so are you. (not that it matters but that just how i see it) have a great day/night too! i hope you love it sun! enjoy!!
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>•<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
• let’s begin with some backstory
• first time you met shuri when all the avengers arrived in wakanda, before infinity war for vision’s little “operation”
• coming into the lab you saw a girl, working on something
• when she saw some people were coming in, she turned around and then you saw her — you froze
• natasha immediately recognised your state, she quickly came up to you bringing you back on earth. lucky for you, shuri haven’t noticed anything, being too caught up on her work or so you thought
• after some time most of the team left the lab, leaving shuri to deal with her work at peace, natasha gave you the last glance making sure you won’t make a fool out of yourself when you’re alone with “the pretty girl” but you ignored her, looking out of the window
• there were just the two of you alone in her lab (almost alone, if you want to count turned-off vision, laying down on a table)
• you didn’t know what to say so you just stayed in your place right next to the window, being so interested in the beautiful nature behind it
• suddenly you heard a chuckle, breaking the somehow uncomfortable silence
• “you didn’t think i haven’t noticed your stare, did you?” she asked not looking up from her work
• you turned around to face her, noticing the little smirk she got rilled up on her face
• “you’re not as slick as you think, american” she looked up at you, and that was the moment your eyes met
• “it’s not my fault i can’t resist looking at a pretty girl, when i see one” you finally responded, not knowing from where you suddenly got the bravery. shuri smiled even more at your comment.
• and just like that after some time the two of you started dating
• (let’s just assume thanos didn’t erase half of the universe)
• when t’challa found out about you two, to your big surprise he welcomed you to the family with open arms and started treating you like his another little sister, which was pretty sweet
• but when the avengers found out,,,
• natasha, who was actually the first one to officially know about your relationship - she was joyful you found someone who made you as happy as shuri did
• tony was a bit more sceptical but it quickly passed when he discovered by his own eyes how amazing this relationship was serving you both
• the rest of the team didn’t really care that much but were genuinely happy you got someone to spend time with
• at the start of your relationship shuri was self-isolating herself when things were getting more serious, but when she found out she could really trust and count on you everything changed
• she came up to you with every little problem she got. even if you didn’t know the answer - she just wanted someone to fully listen to her and not judge her despite the fact she’s “just a kid”
• lucky for you both, with problems she got in the lab you were more than happy to help her and finally try out all of the amazing technology they got there, even if you weren’t totally sure what you were doing
• after some time, when you two grew closer, one day she gave you a gift — kimoyo bracelet. you were speechless and couldn’t believe your own eyes. shuri said it wasn’t a big deal and that it’ll ease your communication with each other
• it was a big deal, it was a huge deal. you put on the bracelet and immediately kissed her showing her how much it meant to you. she kissed you back with the same passion while smiling in to the kiss, easily reading your expression
• you were often flying to shuri to wakanda than shuri was flying to you. not that it bothered you, let’s be real the beauty of that place was taking away your breath every time you got to see it
• when you got deeper into your relationship you noticed she was totally different from the girl you met for the first time in the lab
• she was more out-going and highly-spirited than you previously assumed
• but there were certain things that you were right about
• for example, shuri didn’t know how to handle her problems so she was just hiding in her lab, excusing herself that she desperately needs to work on this or that
• good for her, you were always the one to take her out of there and try to figure out some other way for her to cope with problems
• most of the time it was working and the two of you almost always ended up at the roof of their palace watching stars and having those deep convos
• but at the time when even you couldn’t pull her away from work you just kept her company there, making sure she wasn’t overworking herself
• after all, you were the only one who could be around her when she was in a terrible mood (and t’challa but it was depending on a day and the reason of the mood, really)
• as i previously said, shuri is a cheerful person when she feels comfortable
• she is the type of person to tell the most unfunny jokes on the planet, but they are actually funny because of the way she says them
• let’s not forget the part that you both love working on new technology, so you can expect a lot of lab dates
• just the two of you, whole lab for the both of you and endless time, what to want more?
• just shuri in general i mean let’s be real
• i feel like she would like cuddling but like the official version is that she doesn’t like it but you know better than that
• shuri is a girl kisser
• and she’s great at it (and she knows it!)
• with that being said, im sure she would know how to make the other person just loose their mind even by a quick kiss
• i also feel like she’d be such a tease i mean-
• like when you’re working in the lab with the rest of the avengers she will smoothly move her hand around you to finally state it on your waist
• or or
• she will sneak behind you and totally “accidental” touch your lower back, back, arms or any part of your body to be honest
• and while the others would be pretty confused why are you looking like a tomato, she would just quietly chuckle not to anybody’s notice (well, natasha’s maybe)
• ya i see that as pretty “shuri thing”tm
• (actually i have two versions of shuri in my head but let’s just roll with this one sksjsjssk)
• i think shuri’s the type to not be afraid to make a move or do something more bold that you’d expect, i mean look at your first meeting, ya? ya.
• you were the only person she opened up to after the death of her brother
• the first time you two said “i love you” must have been the time, when namor started his attack on wakanda
• when queen ramonda died, shuri got no one left besides you
• it was also the time you two grew even closer than before, not that you could think it was possible
• when shuri again buried herself in the lab desperately trying to make the heart plant work, you and riri were there to help her with everything you could
• finally, when the recipe was correct and shuri took it, you couldn’t be more proud
• after her “vision” you knew something was up
• you took her to the side and said that she can trust you with who she saw, but even if she decides not to tell you, you’ll happily respect it
• eventually she told you, killmonger was the one she had met with
• you were speechless but tried to not let it be seen, to not scare her off
• as an avenger and one of the smartest people on team, shuri was grateful you’d be helping them in the battle
• even tho at first you fighting along with her was out of question; she was just afraid of losing you as the last person she cared about to be fair, who wearing her shoes wouldn’t be scared?
• eventually she agreed, but said that before the fight, she needed to make some changes in your suit — on which you were more than happy to agree
• shuri made sure your suit could protect you at all cost and that nothing possibly could happen to you, she did everything in her own for you
• the two of you were at the top of the ship, getting ready to fight
• she then suddenly took your hand in hers and while looking at the horizon said “i can’t loose you today, or any day, i need you”
• tears filled your eyes. it was just a simple sentence, but it made your heart shutter
• “you won’t loose me, today or any day. i’ll be always there for you, i promise” you said looking at her, but her eyes were still focused on the water in front of you
• “don’t promise me anything” she scuffed, finally turning her head to you along with her eyes “i just…” she squeezed your hand a bit
• “shuri” you said, needing her full attention “nothing bad won’t happen today. i’ll be fine, and you’ll too” you assured her, even tho you didn’t fully believe your own words
• “i love you” she said a moment later which took you by surprise “i just wanted you to know that” she added, looking away
• your eyes again started to tear up “i love you too, shuri” you said it back, watching as a little smile crowded its way up on her face “more than anything” you hugged her so tight, while she kissed your forehead still looking at the horizon, but this time she was smiling
• the battle began and everything went smoothly and along your plan
• when you saw shuri fighting as a black panther you could’ve not been more proud and more in love
• at the end of the day, when you saw her along with namor both of them speaking to their people, you knew everything went even better than you expected
• when all of the wakandininas came back to their homes everything went back to normal
• shuri was the new queen of wakanda which was surreal to be honest
• more or less a month after all of this you and shuri could be enjoying a holiday together finally doing everything and anything you want <3

too late
--
summary: peter plans a getaway trip to treat you but doesn't show. fem!reader, both reader & peter are like early twenties (let's just pretend that's when tony recruited peter.)
word count: 1645 (still kind of a blurb, idrk where i was going with this)
warnings: angst, swearing that's basically it
a/n: definitely inspired by the opening scene of the movie 'american ultra' also, i haven't posted in a long time and i wrote this at like 3 am so just give me a little time to edit
Tumblr media
you weren't sure how much hope you had for the unforeseeable future. or even the future that held just a few hours ahead.
having a boyfriend like peter, everything was uncertain. and no, it wasn't just to take a dig at him, you loved him with all your heart and knew what you were getting into when you decided to stay with him after finding out he was spider-man.
the missed dates, missed calls, texts, and events. the missed time together. you were amazingly understanding, it came as a surprise to not only you but peter as well.
still, this didn't mean that you didn't find yourself disappointed sometimes.
it all started as peter's idea. a trip. not just a day trip or a few-hour road trip. an actual trip, a getaway. somewhere it would feel like only the two of you existed. no criminals, no stress, only you two.
and normally one would think if it was peter's idea, and the trip didn't pull through, then it must've been you, you were the one who flaked. but that wasn't true.
seated in the airport terminal, your leg wouldn't stop bouncing. you chewed at your fingernails, anxiety taking you out in waves. the tears were burning your eyes but there was no way you were going to cry in public like this.
especially when you knew this would happen. in fact, you expected it to happen. it was too good to be true. every fiber in your body was fighting against acting upon the rage filling you with each passing second. and as the final call for your flight was forced to be ignored by you, you huffed out a breath, lifting out of your seat and rolling your suitcase with you to the exit.
'i'll meet you at the airport' he said.
that should've been the first sign he wasn't coming.
peter already felt guilty. so guilty, he felt physically sick. to make matters worse, he was late. doing what? he wasn't out assisting the police in a car chase, or stopping some wanna-be criminal from stealing the purse out of some poor lady's car in the middle of the day. instead, he was pacing on the roof of your apartment. his chest rising and falling as he felt his own anxiousness suffocating him.
he couldn't lessen the worry of what would happen while he was gone. there were people that depended on him, a whole city, tony. could he just leave it all behind? and what about when we got back? will everyone have turned on him for not being here?
"fuck," he kept mumbling over and over, migraine absolutely killing him. his hands were shaking profusely. no matter how hard he gripped one in the other, the shakes wouldn't stop, nerves flowing through him rapidly. this weight was crushing him second by second - and the more peter pictured you, confused, alone, angry even- it got heavier.
he had the decision to make, and fast.
unfortunately, he didn't make the deadline. he subconsciously made his choice and now would have to pay the price when he saw the look on his girlfriend's face.
----
a voice in the back of your head kept urging you to do nothing but pay attention to the road.
he was sitting right next to you in the passenger seat and although he was completely silent, his presence weighed a heavy tension between you both. so thick you could slice it with a knife. and what you'd give to do just that.
"y/n, i'm sorry." he finally broke the silence, voice shaky. you didn't even want to know if he was looking at you or not.
"it's okay." your voice was sweet and convincing. a part of you just wanted to convince him so you could convince yourself as well.
he eyed the promise ring on your finger, he remembered picking up a (less than) part time job in order to save up for that ring. he got fired right after he bought it. your birthstone sat on the band of the ring and in the right light, it really did look beautiful. but the beautiful image was soon squandered when he saw your knuckles. white, from gripping the wheel so hard.
"i-it's not." he finally replied.
he wanted you to know that he already know's he fucked up, he's aware. he wants you to know that he cares about you more than words could explain and not even all the sorry's in the world could cover how fucking sorry he is.
"peter, i said it's fine," you said in the same tone as the first time.
"no, it's not fine." he persisted.
"i really wanted to do this for you, you know? i researched what hotels were best to go to, the restaurants, the stores… i know you would've loved to drag me to all of them." at this point he was rambling on to himself. "i fucked up, i ruined it."
"you didn't ruin it." you shook your head, trying to get him to just… stop.
but now you knew he was looking at you. he could see your eyes glassing over, although you were trying your hardest to blink them back without blurring your vision. you knew he wouldn't let up until you gave him some sort of reaction but what were you supposed to do? what would getting upset do other than put you both in an uncomfortable position neither of you wanted to be in?
"you should be mad at me-"
"i'm not." you interrupted, glancing over at him for just a second.
"well, why not?" he nearly spluttered out.
"it's not your fault, peter. i mean you have a lot on your plate, it's not easy to just walk away-"
"seriously?"
"what do you want me to say? it's… it's alot! is it not? isn't that why we're going back home?"
you didn't mean that in a passive-aggressive way. more of an 'i'm trying to understand you' way. but peter picked at whatever he could get.
"no, we're going back home 'cause i fucked up more times than i can count. it's my fault, i ruined this for us."
"don't-" you took a deep breath, thanking whatever god was to bless you for only being a couple of miles from home. "don't say that, alright? it's okay. i promise."
those were the last words spoken for the remained of the ride. pulling into the driveway, you swiftly turned the key out of the ignition and rushed out of the car, not worried about the luggage.
still, peter called out. "i'll get the bags." before you slammed your door and made a quick beeline for the front door of your apartment.
in the few seconds, you had to yourself, you choked down any emotion, hoping to finally just convince peter that you weren't mad. you really weren't, you didn't feel as mad as you did at the airport. you were just... disappointed. anyone would be if they planned a trip to Hawaii with their partner and their partner didn't show.
you shook your head as if that would rid you of your thoughts. every time you tried to reason with the situation, it just made peter seem bad and you didn't want that- you understood.
when he stumbled in with the suitcases, you looked at him blankly for a moment, thinking of what to say or do. nothing came to mind. you took your suitcase from his hands and went to your room, hoping to unpack both your luggage and your mind.
there was truly nothing more to say, you're already told him you weren't mad (though he didn't believe a single word of it).
setting the suitcase on your bed and unzipping it, you looked down at what you had packed. a couple bathing suits, nothing too extra (you intended on just pulling it together with a sheer coverup), casual outfits - summer outfits. one's you could no longer wear at this time given it was fall in new york and the weather was less than forgiving. packed at the bottom of the luggage was the ugliest palm tree button-up you'd ever seen in your life. peter insisted you buy matching ones, claiming it'd make the cutest picture, the cutest memory.
"ah, what the fuck?" you sighed out, the heel of your palm pressing down on your eyes as you tried desperately not to cry.
"i knew it," you were startled by peter's voice behind you. "you are upset." his voice cracked, walking over to you and pushing your suitcase out of the way. he sat in the spot now, looking up at the way you towered over him. "I want you to be upset with me."
"peter, stop it."
"no, I won't. it's not fair to you."
"it's not going to help either of us if I lash out at you." you brought your hand up to his hair, pushing back the curls falling in his eyes. it reminded you of how you two sat up late last night debating if you should give him a haircut, make it more manageable before you left. clearly, you both decided against it. you didn't mind, you loved his hair longer.
with nothing blocking your view now, you could see in his eyes. you could practically feel the guilt radiating from him and if you chose to ignore it before, that sad, desperate look in his eyes only struck you harder.
"i just..." he choked on his words, letting his head fall to your chest, words now muffled by your clothes. "I'm really, really sorry, baby." he apologized for quite literally the millionth time.
"pete. it's okay."
"you deserve so much better."
"oh, so i have a man telling me my worth now?" you teased, hoping to lighten the mood.
"i'll make it up to you." he looked up at you again. "I fucking... i swear, I promise. i mean it this time, I do."
"i know you do, baby."
"i love you."
"i love you too, peter."
you had no doubt he meant it, you just weren't sure how he was going to keep to his word this time. or if he was even going to.
