Shader Programming: 3D Scene using Direct 3D 11 - 3rd Year Project

My favorite project I made while I was an undergrad! This was the first time I used Direct 3D, HLSL and coded my first shaders.

I had no idea about shaders prior to this project - I had only dabbled in OpenGL, but wasn't aware of the graphics pipeline, nor that GPUs were programmable.

That said, the whole module fascinated me. It was so engaging, and I loved the way algorithms and vector maths could be implemented to draw and render shapes and effects on the screen.

The scene makes use of the vertex, hull, domain and fragment shaders, for geometry manipulation and post processing effects.

All of the shaders were written from scratch using VS and the D3D11 graphics API, in C++ and HLSL.

今日低山登ってたら前にいた爺が地面から少しだけ出てた根っこでつまづいたかと思ったら、2〜3歩おっとっとって、歩いてたスピードよりかなり加速して谷川に進んで転んで、細い木に顔面からぶつかって止まってた。

木にぶつからなかったらそのまま谷に落ちて行ってそうだった。

The European Stag Beetle

The stag beetle (Lucanus cervus) is the subject of quite a bit of European folklore. In Germany is was believed that these insects would carry burning coals into homes to set them on fire. Some also claimed that stag beetles could attract lightning, leading to an association with the Norse god Thor. To avoid being struck by lightning, people would wear the heads of the beetles on their hats. Stag beetle heads are actually still worn frequently as an accessory in traditional Bavarian costumes.

The practice of wearing stag beetles was not exclusive to Germany either. In his Naturalis Historia (Natural History), published in AD 77, Roman historian Pliny the Elder writes about a custom in which stag beetles would be worn as amulets around the necks of infants. This was apparently done to protect them from disease.

Stag beetles were also often associated with the devil and therefore seen as especially malevolent creatures. In England these “Devil’s Imps” were believed to be sent to destroy crop fields. As a consequence, they were often killed by people who found them. This association also seems to have spread to Germany as evidenced by the term “Teufelspferd” (Devil’s Horse), sometimes used to refer to these insects.

HBO Asia首部原創紀錄片《塔瓦家命案之謎》（THE TALWARS: BEHIND CLOSED DOORS）講述發生於印度諾伊達一名少女及家中僕人的雙殺案，這樁案件很快地成為印度最大宗的謀殺疑案，引起舉世注目。由HBO Asia與Star India聯合製作，《塔瓦家命案之謎》每集1小時共4集，將在11月26日（日）晚間9點於HBO和HBO HD頻道獨家首播，每星期同一時間播出1集，HBO隨選視訊服務（HBO ON DEMAND）也將安排播出。

時間是2008年5月16日上午，塔瓦夫婦發現女兒Aarushi遭到毆打並慘遭割喉，陳屍於自家床上。一開始被認定為頭號嫌疑犯的是行蹤成謎的尼泊爾籍幫傭Hemraj Banjade，但隨後在公寓屋頂露台尋獲他的屍體，且有遭受虐待的跡象。由於案發當晚似乎只有四個人在公寓裡，而其中只有兩個人存活下來，因此警方將偵查方向轉往塔瓦夫婦，但經歷九年共三次的偵訊和一次的上訴審判，塔瓦夫婦被無罪釋放。《塔瓦家命案之謎》以英語及印度語發音，並搭配當地語言字幕播出，同時紀綠片更首次獨家訪問到Aarushi的雙親，也就是塔瓦夫婦，並近距離與涉入印度史上最惡名昭彰雙殺命案的最密切關係人訪談，以了解全案的面貌。
