When a laser beam marking on the glass, a portion of the beam is reflected on the surface. So most of the laser beam passes directly through it. UV laser marker etches on the surface of glass, extremely high energy density is required. 
However, if the energy density is too high, cracks or even chipping will occur. If the energy density is too low, the dots will sink or may not be directly the surface is etched.

2. How does laser glass engraving machine work? 
1).  Engraving flat glass UV laser etching on flat glass is directly related to laser peak power, the final focus spot size, and also the galvanometer speed. We have found that, sometimes the laser beam of a high-power isn’t etched on the surface of the glass. 
But it will pass directly through glass. This is because the peak power of the laser is not enough, or the energy density is not concentrated enough. The peak power is depending on the laser beam, pulse width and frequency. 
The narrower of pulse width, the lower frequency, and the higher peak power of the laser glass engraving machine. The energy density is affected by the spot size and beam quality M2. 
The spot size can be changed by using a high-magnification beam expander. M2 can only be determined by the laser beam quality. The smaller the M2, the larger the beam expander magnification, the more concentrated the energy density. 
UV laser engraving on the surface of the glass, but it still comes laser through glass. Besides, some of the points formed by the pulse will sink into the glass to make the inner sculpture.
