No Launch Date Yet for Honda StepWGN in Indonesia

The Honda StepWGN is one of the exciting hybrids sold overseas that stunned everyone last July during the 2024 Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show (GIIAS) organized by PT Honda Prospect Motor or HPM. Public interest in this MPV is nothing short of spectacular. With a large interior, good design, and much-sought hybrid, StepWGN now occupies one of the top places at the height of anticipation of vehicles in Indonesia.

According to Yusak Billy, Sales & Marketing and After Sales Director of PT HPM: "StepWGN is still at the survey stage. Although the GIIAS event has given good insights to Honda, it will only hold its final stage during GIIAS Semarang from 23rd October to 27th October. Then, Honda will study what it could get from the feedback and whether it should enter the market in Indonesia or not.".

"Perhaps the last (survey) at GIIAS Semarang next week, then we will complete it and evaluate it since public interest is very high in Indonesia," Billy said during a media interview in Jakarta on 19th October 2024.

The final assessment would also ascertain whether the StepWGN would be officially sold in the country since the company weighs the high interests of the public with logistics and bringing this model into Indonesia.

Public Demand Increases

Billy said that some keen buyers approached him, asking him when is the car going to hit the roads of Indonesia, as they were eager to see the car drive around the roads of Indonesia. However, PT HPM never set the date for launching the car. "They asked when it is launched, but we already said we cannot afford it yet," Billy added, summarizing the cautious approach Honda will take before finally announcing the date of launching the car.

Billy gathered from the surveys conducted so far that Indonesian customers perceive the Honda StepWGN as something that should start from IDR 500-699 million. It is huge value for features and technology used by the vehicle, and this will be a stronger case for the product in the Indonesian market.

Competitors and Market Position

Another closest competitor to Honda StepWGN would certainly be Toyota Voxy and Nissan Serena, which are indeed the most popular models in the MPV Japanese market. It can be added that StepWGN has a really minimalist design and can be placed apart from all models of Honda's MPVs. Among them are Freed or more expensive Odyssey.
