First the release dates, locations and numbers. Initial production of the Yaris GR-4 is scheduled to start next year, with an entrance into the 2020 Japan Rally Championship, though a 2020 commercial release can't be guaranteed. If not it will almost certainly be early 2021. Production rates are rumored to be 1000 a month worldwide. Release areas will be.... Japan and Europe (yeah like North America was ever going to get its hands on this).

Next the specs, apparently the TNGA-B platform which the Yaris is built on, while designed to handle 4WD, is not designed to handle any engine bigger than a 3-cyl. So the experts at the news sites expect a 1.5L Turbo 3-cyl making around 250HP with 4WD.

The big reach here is the performance estimates. Unnamed Toyota sources have confirmed that the Yaris GR-4 is designed and created to be a revival of the old Rally Homologation specials and that the GR-4 in its road going form will also be entered into the All Japan Rally JN1 class. Now the JN1 class is the one which Lancer Evos and WRX STIs compete in, meaning if Toyota is serious about entering the GR-4 into the JN1 class, the rallying performance of a GR-4 should be at least comparable to an Evo or STI.

Additionally an R5/WRC-2 Yaris GR-4 is being made, but that car supposedly has a 1.6L Turbo 4-cyl derived from another unspecified car.
