Oak Manor quiet pool, preferably after 10pm. 🐠 . . . Being a Buffalonian, swimming pools have always been exciting to me! I actually learned to swim in that exact pool when I was little. And while we were on vacation, I would beg to go swimming night and day. Covid-19 - my experience so far with it and future blogs

This account was meant to be used to tell you the experiences I would have this year, and more specifically, to tell you about the China trip I was supposed to go on from the end of March to the mid-end of the Easter break. However, with how the Corona situation evolved, from how it was at the beginning of January to now, things have changed.

For one, the China trip was cancelled WEEKS ago. At the end of January, I had gala and we were joking about it, eating Chinese food, and I was still under the impression, that this situation would blow over and be done with, by the time I was supposed to go to China. Fast forward to shortly after the Winter break (which was in mid-February) and the China trip was cancelled, and in those few weeks between the Gala and Winter break, I went from not wanting the trip to be cancelled to praying that it would be cancelled. And boy was I happy it was.

The second thing that happened, was how things changed, and how some people would look at you if you coughed. I am in Denmark, so most people were still just joking about it and making some fun of it, but as time progressed, people become more and more paranoid. And then things exploded in Italy, and we had what we called “The Corona Scare” at the school, as a visiting student was picked up in an ambulance because they had family members who had been in Italy, even though the student themselves didn’t have Covid-19.

And then the third thing happened; Schools and other such institutions were told to close from latest Friday the 13th of March. There was chaos, as Denmark went into a sort of self-quarantine, and people were rushing to the few stores and supermarkets which were open after 9pm. And I am not proud to say, I was one of them because my friends put me into a panic and convinced me to go with them, and I knew the moment we went into that store, that that was the worst decision of my life. Even more than getting an undercut that did not suit me what so ever.

But we were told not to go to school and the same Wednesday night, that this message had come out, I could go on my school app and see how all my lessons the next day was cancelled. And while some people were relieved by this happening, as it signalled Denmark actually trying to do something to break the infection chain, for me and a lot of people I know, this gave us a new concern.

I live at a boarding school, which functions as a kind of student home, more than anything fancy. But the boarding school is for the student who goes to the school connected to it. Would we have to leave or would we be quarantined here?

We got our answers the next day, where we were told that student who had living connections in Denmark and could be there, was “recommended” to go home, which meant they HAD to go home. And student, who had no living connections in Denmark where they could stay, was “recommended” to stay at the boarding, which meant they technically weren’t allowed to leave, even though the last one was very hard to enforce and a lot of students still went home to their own country.

For me, a Dane, this was bad, as I wanted to stay at the boarding, since my dad it chronically ill and is, therefore, at high risk of not surviving if he gets Covid-19 and I would have no idea if I already got it before I went home, and by then it would be too late. Fortunately, because of my circumstances, I was given permission to stay at the boarding school.

But now I am in quarantine, or isolation, from the rest of the world. Yes, I can still go to the store if I wish, or be outside on boarding school grounds and do whatever I want. But I can no longer have any guests who aren’t also staying at the boarding. We can no longer be more than 10 people in a room. Most of my very close friends were forced to go home and only 2 remains with me. And I can no longer see and hug my parents, as they live in another city.

Because of all of this, and the stress this is giving me, I am trying to stay busy by doing virtual homework and assignments, together with whatever I can do to make sure I don’t let the stress and depressing thoughts get to me. I am, therefore, going to try and write on my blog as much as possible, to tell you about my day. This might be boring, but this will be my way to cope.

As I will be getting a new phone any day now, which actually have a functioning camera compared to my current phone, I might also post some pictures to go with the blogs, if that is possible.

I will also, one of these days, finally write about how my Gala went at the end of January, together with a picture of me in my gala dress.

I hope you are all during well in these sad and stressful times and are doing whatever you can, to minimize and break the infection chain.
