so i started this show and it just gets worse and worseeeee not only did it lift the romance subplot directly from twilight (and not well) but they also are trying to play the forbidden love angle hard in the fantasy racism vein except it's a "cross-species" relationship between the two whitest people i've ever seen in my life and there are three people of color in the whole (first season of the) show who aren't villains and it seems that every other episode (and sometimes ebery episode and sometimes twice an episode!) there is a man physically or magically subjugating a woman and i keep waiting for the big reveal at the end to be stolen from fucking rainbow rowell

METEOR GARDEN (2018 CHINESE ADAPTATION)

So the ending was Dong Shancai (SHEN YUE) was told by Ximen (CEASAR WU) that she rejected Daoming Si (DYLAN WANG) and he moved to London.

Then Daoming Si appeared making the same demands of when they met. Shancai denied him and he left. Then Daoming Zhaung (HSU DEE) appeared with two backup dancers and danced to the song RIVER (by BISHOP BRIGGS aka SARAH MCLAUGHLIN) which is a popular song in the states at that time.

She then tried to summon Daoming Si but instead got Hauze Lei (DARREN CHEN) Ximen (CEASAR WU) and Meizuo (LEON LEONG) having to choose one of them to marry. They all make their pitch.

After she turns them all down they summon Daoming Si who appears with every other guy that fell for our heroine Shancai including her best friend Qing He (LIN YIN HAO) Thomas (BLAKE ABBIE) and Tian Ye (WANG RUN ZE)

They were married by Daoming Si's sister without Shancai's parents or Daoming Si's evil mother who by this point wasn't trying to stop them in attendance. But the two mean girls that sent Shancai into a blizzard were there. But like @pose4photoml said...they got their happy ending.

One thing I don't think people consider re: the complaints about epithets in fiction. (Eg. The taller man did xyz, the blonde smiled)

Here's the thing. If you're writing a scene in 3rd person between 2+ people (or even first/second person if there's the narrator/"you" and 1 other person) who both/all use the same pronouns, there are gonna be circumstances where using pronouns is going to create confusion.

And yeah, you could use their names, and you probably should periodically, but in an action heavy (not action as in fighting, action as in any description of a physical actions- reaching, touching, drinking, etc) and dialogue light scene, once again you are gonna run into a point where every other sentence has the character's name in it, and gets repetitive as hell to read.

Some people aren't bothered by this, some people are really taken out of the story by it.

So shocker, epithets, like every other writing element that is deemed overused, should be used deliberately and in moderation + combination with other methods (in this case of referring to a character).

A scene containing a healthy mix of name, pronouns, & the occasional epithet for clarity is over all going to read better than if you Never Ever Use Epithets because tumblr told you it's bad.

I promise you every single person who writes reblogging complaints or guides on the ONLY way to use them has done it and just forgot bc they did it in a way that makes sense & reads naturally.

Genuinely, where are ML people congregating these days. None of the Discord servers I'm in are super active anymore and I barely see people in them posting about new episodes/specials and definitely not as they're airing. Where is the new episode camaraderie

There used to be so many active Discord servers and groups on Tumblr/Instagram who talked about where to find links for whatever was coming out and livestreamed episodes themselves and went crazy while watching them all together and I can't tell if this is something that has gone by the wayside fandom-wide or if I am a loser who just isn't invited to be part of these things
