TERRIFIER (2016)
This movie blatantly plagiarized Hannibal Lecter and SAW. The damage tracking makes NO sense, someone will get stabbed directly in their brain or shot point blank in the face but is still alive to endure the next few blows. Multiple people come close enough to actually kill the clown but they never do and then he kills them. Not one iota common sense for any character and if I could unwatch this movie I would. Unoriginal and uninspired.
(Trigger Warning Suicide)
⭐
[Originally given 0 stars but changed one star for my tumblr rating system]
Two girls get stalked by a clown, and I will hand it to them, he is good and creepy. They get taken by him and then the dumb blonde gets sawed in half like the the old torture maneuver but he saws through her bones SO easily it’s stupid. Then the brunette has the opportunity to kill him and fucking doesn't. She is beating the hell out of him with a plank of wood screaming, "get up motherfucker!" instead of just fucking beating him to death when bang(!) he pulls out a gun! He shoots her in the leg, then the stomach, she is still crawling away when he shoots her in the fucking cheek which (point blank from a handgun) gives her a little hole and she is STILL breathing… enough time for him to go, reload, come back and shoot her like 12 more times in the face.
Usually psychopathic killers with all the costuming and such have rituals to there kills but this guy who is supposedly already an established killer moves from dissecting to axe murder to medieval torture to guns to blunt force trauma to skinning to suffocation to whipping to cannibalism and finally suicide, I mean it's RANDOM. The clown also sustains a lot of damage over the course of the evening but after a moment of rest he seems no worse for wear. Some bullshit goes down with the wacky homeless lady and the brunette girl's sister but the villain doesn't track for me. He doesn't seem the type to use a fucking gun and his motives are super unclear. Is it important that he scares his victims first? What is it about the killings that gets him off? It all just seems like violence but a gun seems a weird choice for him. Also he has mommy issues? Since fucking WHEN.

spooky tuesday is a (now not so new!) podcast where we’re breaking down all of our favorite slashers, thrillers, monster movies and black comedies on the new scariest day of the week.
the promos for terrifier 3 claim that art the clown is "practically as much of a horror icon as michael, jason, and freddy," and based on what monica and sydney saw at midsummer scream, that just might be true. we had to check it out for ourselves — which is why we're kicking off sydneypalooza by throwing it back to terrifier (2016). this movie may not have marked art's original debut (that honor goes to all hallows’ eve), but it was his first solo flick and david howard thornton's first turn in the role. it's also batshit crazy, and we're breaking it all down on sydney’s birthday episode of spooky tuesday.
give spooky tuesday a listen on apple podcasts, spotify, iheart radio, or stitcher

The Neon Demon (2016)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
TW: There are scenes of sexual assault and necrophilia (I know, what the hell) in this film (all after the 1 hour mark). Be aware of triggers.
“A diamond in a sea of glass.”
Such a strange, glitzy bildungsroman. I loved the colour palette, lighting effects, and the secondary characters that molded Jesse. However, some scenes are very uncomfortable to watch, given her age.
Watch this if:
you really do think models are bloodthirsty demons
the themes of exploitation, youth, and beauty aren’t too on the nose for you
Similar titles:
Rabid (2019) (more of a literal models = monsters story, but still insanely good horror)
Saltburn (2023) (but many Barry Keoghans and one Jacob Elordi)

Terrifier (2016) dir. Damien Leone. 7.5/10
I wouldn't recommend this movie to my friends. I wouldn't rewatch this movie.
Art getting dressed up with that little hat is kinda cute.
I want to see more of the process of how Art made that first guy into a jack o'lantern. I'm invested, I want to know more about Art. He's being so brutal and violent in an unconventional way but I just want to talk to him to see what he's thinking about and stuff. I like his facial expressions, I think he's kinda funny. Tara and Vic are so smart. Vic ripped the plastic bag over her face. Tara can read social cues.
People who can't handle gore wouldn't be able to watch this, I guess.
I had hopes for Tara but oh well. Vic has a midterm, we don't have time for this.

The Nice Guys
Set in 70s LA, alcoholic mess of a father Holland March (Ryan Gosling) and muscle-for-hire Jackson Healy (Russel Crowe) must work together to solve the death of porn star Misty Mountains. This movie really solidified my theory that every buddy-cop movie is either a father-son passing the torch kinda deal or…homoerotic. The Nice Guys is on the side of homoerotic. Maybe not erotic. But it is gay with a side of co-parenting. The introduction to each character does a perfect job of telling you who they are. From Healy’s first punch at a real creep to March’s exit out of the bathtub fully clothed. Right from the first interaction between March and Healy, we know they’re gonna make a great team whether they like it or not. "you just gave up your client" "i made a discretionary revelation" "no you gave her up. I ask you one simple question, you gave me all the information" "I thought that's what you wanted" Shit’s hilarious The story is great as well. We start with a simple case of seemingly mistaken identity but realize there’s so much more to this case but it never becomes over complicated. And one thing I really like is how well they do that whole “mentioning something off handedly and bringing it back later” but I’m not entirely sure if it counts as Chekov’s Gun in this instance. All I know is Killer Bees are mentioned in March’s introduction scene and then again a few more times. They do it with other things that are more important to the plot too and it’s so great when you go back for to rewatch it and notice those callbacks from earlier in the movie. I love shit like that and The Nice Guys does it so well. Speaking of callbacks, co-parenting. Other than Healy and March’s hilarious banter, I love seeing the way their…”friendship” and business-partnership develop. I mean, Healy starts by punching March in the face and ending by essentially being Holly’s second (and more responsible?) dad. And it’s obvious Holly comes to trust him more too which is fuckin adorable. And even in their marketing, they did vids called COUPLES THERAPY ?! I mean…how am I not meant to read their relationship as gay dads ??? Overall, this movie was a fuckin masterpiece and absolutely deserved a sequel. Every person that I’ve shown it to has liked it without fail from my friends to my mom who doesn’t even like violence all that much which this has plenty of. In her words “that was a very silly movie but in a surprisingly fun way.” I think it’s important to know that, from the moment the credits started rolling, I opened up ao3 to look for fics. And if none of this is enough to convince anyone who hasn’t seen it to watch the movie, idfk what is.

Viral (2016)
Released only 7 years ago, the world has changed so much since Viral was made it practically feels like a period piece but that actually works in its favor.
The news is warning people of the “worm flu” as it spreads throughout the world. Caused by a parasite, those affected develop a voracious appetite before vomiting blood and collapsing from severe seizures. When the worm flu forces their town to quarantine, teenage sisters Stacey (Analeigh Tipton) and Emma (Sofia Black-D’Elia) are left alone. Their father, (Michael Kelly) was on his way to pick up their mother from the airport and the new security measures mean they have no idea when they'll be able to return.
You can see what I meant earlier about the film feeling like it comes from a different era. Viral, was made before the COVID-19 epidemic and one of its more interesting aspects is how accurately it predicted what would happen. The Drakefords have recently moved to the area. While Stacey has made plenty of friends and has a boyfriend, CJ (Colson Baker), Emma is only starting to feel at home in her new school. After the teens are left home alone and learn school is closed indefinitely, they go to a party with all of their classmates. Normally, Emma wouldn’t be interested, but Evan (Travis Tope), the handsome neighbor she’s befriended, will be there. They don’t see the imposed curfew or the government warnings as anything to take too seriously. There, a few people wear masks but most don’t and wouldn’t you know it, someone infected shows up, spreading a plague that could’ve been contained to who knows how many households. The sickness in this film is obviously more extreme and dangerous than the one we went through but several scenes in the film feel eerily familiar. Government vehicles pass through the streets, blasting warnings to everyone to stay indoors, respect the curfews and report infected individuals. When people die from the flu, everyone in the house is taken away by people in hazmat suits and their house is marked so the CDC knows how many people were taken. Food packets are distributed to each household so people don’t have to leave their homes for any reason.
Another of the film’s strengths is the relationship between the characters. Stacey and Emma feel like real sisters. The actresses have some nice little bits of dialogue to help us understand who they are even whether they’re talking about normal subjects like school and boys or they're contemplating the danger they now face. Stacey may be more outgoing, she may tease her little sister often but she’s looking out for her. The scenes of normal interactions make you understand why, when one becomes infected, the other refuses to leave her behind.
Once the worm flu comes home, some of the weaknesses in the story creep in. We're reminded that this is a horror film - not a dramatic thriller set in a frightening time - with a scare that turns out to be just a dream. Towards the end of the picture, the sisterly bond on display strains credibility. Remember, this worm flu is not like Covid-19, where it’s just infectious and potentially fatal. The disease in this movie is directly compared to Toxoplasma gondii, the parasite that removes rodents’ fear of cats. It alters the way people act and can make them murderous. When your loved one manages to escape the room you’ve locked them in, it’s not so they can hang out with their friends or go buy that cheeseburger they’ve been craving; it’s so they can kill and/or spread the parasite. If they run into a dark, abandoned house, only an insane person would follow them and that's before we see the dead bodies and the open door leading towards the dark basement. It’s the ultimate “don’t go in there!” scene. In its defense, it leads to a great, final reveal about the worm flu. Except for one scene where we get to see it take control of a hostile neighbor, the details about the parasitic worm are kept vague, which keeps it scary. That final reveal raises all sorts of questions as it makes you realize how big of a nightmare these characters are living in.
Minus a couple of moments where the characters toss away their survival skills like a dirty face mask, Viral is an enjoyable horror thriller when it's not trying too hard to go for the typical scares. I'd rate it higher if it wasn't for another movie that "predicted" the pandemic more frighteningly and accurately, Contagion. Between the two, that's the better movie. (October 29, 2024)

My thoughts on don't breathe 2016.
this is because I think I'm a movie critic /j
This post DOES contain spoilers so if you have not seen the movie view at your own risk :)
plot: Hoping to walk away with a massive fortune, a trio of thieves break into the house of a blind man who isn't as helpless as he seems (IMBd.com) this movie is rated a 7.1%/10 on the website and is described as a horror, thriller, and crime movie. This does have a sequel which came out in 2021, which I have not watched yet!
Now onto my thoughts!
I think for it coming out that year it definitely shows, and the creators who made 'Evil Dead' just three years before, which I could see greatly between the two films. For example when we see the blind man filling the box with the Dead pregnant girl with blood it reminded me a lot of the style of Evil dead.
There were definitely times where I cringed but with a movie that late it was bound to happen, I laughed when Rocky had stuck the turkey baster in his mouth and made him gag. It was deserved.
In thought the movie looks, cringe, but I do think it was a great film, it had its moments because all have those, even the favorites.
My favorite moments:
The ending, that Rocky and her sister got the better life the deserve.
When Alex saves Rocky from the basement and how he used Money's body to save himself from the stab with hedge trimmers.
When the blind man pops up on the trio(giggled)
The bedroom scene, I think he falls asleep to home videos and it made me sad.
So in conclusion I give this movie a 8/10 on the wax meter.
Have a good day/night/whatever and ily<33
If you would like more please let me know and I will do my best!!!

Here's a thought 💡
If Trolls (2016) was written differently, do you think Branch could've been considered an anti-hero or if they were to write it in that direction, do you think it would've been better? How would you write the movie?

i think movie reviews are very silly and don't get me wrong i love doing movie reviews but im talking about those who say that it's objectively 'bad' when nothing can be objectively 'bad' (in terms of theatre, art, music etc). i think the rocky horror picture show 2016 was absolutely amazing and yes the acting of mainly brad and janet was very dramatic and 'over the top' but that's also present in the original productions of it, it not only adds to the vibe of the goofy strange weird film but it perfectly portrays these characters. brad andjanet are the only 'normal' ones and when they start to realise they might not be 'normal' they're very classically dramatic which works with their characters!! i think this film was amazing and the characters were portrayed almost perfectly c:
please remember this is simply my opinion i just very much enjoy the remake and think its amazing, this does not mean everyone will like it as everyone’s taste is different!!
