Sometimes I'm normal
othertimes, i think about the oath zayne must've taken to "do no harm" ( on account of being a surgeon ) and how... he's lived by that quite religiously. Like, he looks like he could kill you ( and probably could with his experience, combat training, and his evol use ) but he's not going to. He's not even going to... rough anyone up or get very physical unless under very specific circumstances. He'll be rude and ignore people but never more than that.
And then, carrying that oath, he has to kill his friend--someone he studied with. Someone that took him under his wing and mentored him. Someone that encouraged him--stuck by him when the invasion at Mt.Eternal occurred. The very last face he saw on that mountain was William's.
On top of that, he has nightmares upon nightmares of this man that looks no different than himself but is... not him. Of said man being beset upon and having to kill Wanderers--that he knows now could possibly be human underneath. And in these dreams, him having to kill them is him doing no harm. Because they ask him to. Because some beg him to not let them turn. Just like William did.
while I don't think zayne is necessarily a pacifist, i do think that... there is something very sad about taking the hippocratic oath and, not even a couple months later, having to kill one of your good friends. Or having nightmares like the ones Zayne has where he can see his face commiting those acts.
I also think there is something to be said about Zayne still choosing to become a doctor despite that. Or trying to still help people the only way he can as dawnbreaker.
#❅| ( headcanons. )#.a lot of my muses are desensitized to hurting people ( or eventually are )#.zayne is not one of them#.at least. Not main or main alt verse zayne#.the others? Maybe.#.but this one is not#.I'm also realizing that this is the reason he destroyed his research#.I'm not talking just “oh delete”--he destroyed it. For fear of what it might lead to
