My thoughts on Flight of Icarus (so far!)
I finally got my hands on the book yesterday and also had time to read which hasn’t happened in a very hot minute.
These are just my first impressions, commentary, and takeaways from chapters 1-9.
More will come, but I am realizing that I have so much to say that I need to break it up ✨
I will start off by saying that I was skeptical, as all of us were, when this book was announced. Prior to reading it, I had been steering clear of spoilers and others’ reactions just so that I could go in completely unbiased and with an open mind and heart.
Within the first 10 pages, I was crying. Like, openly weeping. Something about Eddie talking first person about his childhood experiences and confirming what so many of us suspected hit me so suddenly. I was not prepared for the swell of emotions that bubbled over as a result of not only that, but reading his name printed on a real, hard bound book when I've only ever read it from a screen was something else as well. Something about it being officially licensed by ST and providing us with some concrete backstory (if we choose to take it) for so many things that we've been only speculating on for the last year and a half.
These are a few snippets that really had me going:
Anyway, I'm broken.
Onto the writing --
I genuinely think what I've read so far has been incredibly well-written. The first person narration sounds so much like Eddie, as does the dialogue. The insights and ways he describes things cleverly but also with that touch of dark humor that he deflects with so often is very present. I do feel like I'm stepping into his curly noggin and viewing the world through his bambi eyes. It's such a treat.
Also, I have noticed her using many words that he frequently uses in his limited dialogue on the show in her narration, the main one I can think of right now being "not exactly". It's touches like these that let me know how closely she's paying attention.
I am also impressed with the general quality of prose, how she seamlessly integrates setting and character description into the scene. Also clever and creative ways to describe objects that still stay very in character. This one stands out:
Also this. This hyper-awareness that his home life is different than his peers, something I try to illustrate in my own writing and appreciate that this author did as well:
As a writer, I learn so much from reading. I can honestly say that I am learning from this experience as well, and dare I say it, am inspired.
The chapter I am working on now for DSSCTM deals heavily with similar themes and questions that FOI covers, such as Eddie's motivations for staying in school, his relationship to his dad, and how he views himself. So I feel a lucky sense of coincidence that this book was released during the time I am writing it. I, like everyone else, invented my own backstory for his parents that suited the story I was trying to tell and will keep it for consistency going forward.
Characters that stuck out to me --
Gareth -- OH. MY GOD. BABY GARETH. Little fluffy ball of rage. I cannot. My heart is going to explode fr. Also the tenderness with which Eddie handles him is just too much for me.
Ronnie -- Stan her. You know, this character really makes me wonder how much of our fics the author has read because I feel like it is one of the most common and earliest tropes for our Reader characters to be best friends of his that grew up in the trailer park along side him. Maybe it's just an obvious trope? But interesting she included it. Also making her the book-smart one who's got a golden ticket out is another very common thing I see in our stories.
Chrissy -- I love the bit of backstory I've read so far and how sympathetic she writes her. I love that we get the whole scene of them before the talent show and them bonding for a short moment.
Al -- There aren't enough words for how big a piece of shit this man is. When he said this to Wayne I almost yeeted my book across the room. Nobody talks to Wayne Munson like this in my house. 😤
Paige -- Eh. Not sold tbh. Although I do appreciate reading through Eddie's first person narration about him having a crush on someone though. It's cute. Just the crush part, not Paige specifically. She's mid so far.
Principal Higgins -- I had to suspend my disbelief a bit for how strong he came on tbh. I mean, I think she made a somewhat believable case for his absolutely unhinged behavior but it still struck me as borderline unbelievable how Higgins spoke to Eddie like that. What it did confirm for me was something I had suspected from the beginning, which is that Eddie's dad never graduated high school. Also, I appreciate the question being asked about why he is still in school BUT my issue is that this question isn't as applicable in his first senior year as it is in his third. I think the author was trying to find a reason for Higgins to be asking it and had to dig a little to try and make it believable. It's a question I have asked myself, one that I had Teach ask him in the first chapter of DSSCTM, and one I will be exploring in ch. 16.
One final theme-related thing I noticed and appreciate:
How chapter 4 ends with his dad telling him to sleep on the idea of pulling off a heist with him and chapter 5 begins with "The question is pretty simple. At the end of the day, who do you want to be?" and proceeds to a scene of him building a character with Gareth. Likewise in real life, Eddie is figuring out who he wants to be, and I think using this as a metaphor is really clever and beautiful.
ALSO. A theory. Illian died right? Illian wasn't Gareth's he was Jeff's. What if this is alluding to the possibility of another character we all know and love who supposedly died in canon to be able to come back and re-invent themselves? 👀
Could just be my delusional ass reading into this way too much but it was just a thought I had.
Anyway, onward. ✨

Here’s the new AU I thought up! A Robin Hood AU with a twist!! Ronnie and Jake were engaged/married before he’s sent off to the Crusades/a medieval conquest. She promises to stay faithful to him until the day she leaves this earth. Well, that’s put to the rest very soon after Jake is sent off because he’s reported to Ronnie as having died in battle.
Soon after, the sleazy lord in the neighboring village takes an interest in Ronnie and tries to force her to marry him. After he goes too far, Ronnie with her trusty fellow ladies Natasha and Catherine take off to the woods, where they’ve heard tale of the legendary Robin Hood and his Merry Band of Thieves, aka Pete and Co.
The ladies are immediately taken into the fold due to Pete having served with Goose and knowing that he died saving Pete’s life in battle.
Time goes on, and word slowly reaches them that there is a mysterious man setting siege to the corrupt lords’ properties all over the area. It’s rumored that he works with the Grim Reaper himself since no one sees him until it’s too late.
It’s ya boy, Jake and Javy, setting fire to the men who separated him from his love, Ronnie. He was also told that Ronnie had died, but the sleazy lord told him that to try and kill Jake in an emotional frenzy. Instead, Jake started a rampage to lash out at those who sent him on the crusade.
Our two favorite lovers are eventually reunited, and the first thing they do is Ronnie gently cups Jake’s cheeks, strokes her thumbs across his face, and whispers, I knew I would see you again. Before they kiss.
MA'AM MA'AM HOLY SHIT MA'AM I AM ASCENDING
i am more than willing to expand and discuss further with you M cause uh.......Oh My. I freaking love Robin Hood, any version. And the subversion that it's Mav that's the robin hood figure is top tear. he's already got his maid marian in penny, and the cycle is beginning to repeat itself and that is FASCINATING.
and "I know I would see you again" my HEART CAN'T TAKE IT like??? they thought the other was dead??? I am weeping, screaming, throwing up????

Good morning! I hope you slept well and feel rested? Currently sitting in my study, attired only in my blue towelling robe, enjoying my first cuppa of the day. Welcome to the working week although, for those of you working in the NHS, welcome to just another day.
Many thanks to everyone that listened to the show live and to everyone that will listen to the show on MixCloud. On Saturday afternoon, an English man named John Dodds came to visit me in the studio. He currently does a jazz show on a community radio station in Allentown, Pennsylvania. Every Saturday morning at 8.00 am, he listens to ‘The A-Z Of Mi-Soul Music’ (and watches English football if there’s a game on!) It’s always good to be around people that genuinely love radio. He was fascinated by our systems and gear but talked most of all about our 24-hour-a day dialogue with our audience and the level of interaction. I sometimes take it for granted but I am well aware: no audience = no radio station, so I try to show my appreciation of my listeners whenever (and however) I can. I guess we must be good broadcasters? Our audience hear, receive and respond to our messages. The amount of love I receive literally makes a grown man weep.
Your weekend may be continuing but I have to work today. I have a one-hour seminar with my students at 2.00, then I’m sitting in for my brother Ronnie Herel on Mi-Drive. Get your requests in now, so we can do a ‘Picks At Twenty Six’. Hardly ‘work’, though, as you know, I love doing radio. My buddy Paul came to see me at The White Lion on Sunday and said, “I love your giggle!” Yeah, I absolutely adore doing live radio!
Congratulations again to Theresa and Devon for getting married on Saturday. So much love and good will for them in the room. I was fortunate enough to be asked to DJ and Theresa chose a lot of the tunes I played. She knows her tunes, so the music was good.
On Sunday, I was back at The White Lion (Streatham) for another bank holiday all-dayer. I love these events as they really keep up the musical tradition of UK all-dayers. Those big old anthems sound so good on a Sunday evening! Yes, some of those tunes are very obvious but, on that day, in that setting, they are perfect!
Plus, of course, we had the weather with us this weekend. I made sure I slapped on the Nivea Sun ‘Protect & Moisture’. I don’t have time to contract sunstroke.
My diary has suddenly gone barmy and there is lots to look forward to. We have one dinner date on May 31st, a steel band concert on June 2nd, another dinner date on June 3rd, a fabulous 60th birthday party on the June 9th and it’s The Trouble’s birthday on June 11th. We are having dinner with two of our favourite people on June 17th, ‘The A-Z Of Mi-Soul Music’ is coming live from Summer Soulstice on June 24th, there’s another birthday party on June 25th, we have a yummy BBQ on July 1st and then I’ll be doing the Mi-Soul ‘Concert At The Castle’ event in Windsor on July 9th. I shall be whipping it out at every opportunity and adding more selfies to my collection!
Have a marvellous and momentous Monday. I love you all.

“Why do you hate me?” with Ronnie and Chris ?
CW: Implied ableism (you don’t see it but you do see Ronnie’s reaction)
The palm of Ronnie’s hand digs into her forehead where she sits at the kitchen table, phone to her ear, reminding herself to breathe past the furious pounding of her heart. “Jo, absolutely not. Tris has his qualifiers coming up and there’s just no time-... no, yeah, I get that the prices will go up by then. No, I’m still not-... Joanne, listen to me.”
She can hear Tristan in the living room, playing some kind of game, headset on as he chatters happily to Akio on the other end. There’s a sudden burst of video-game gunfire, an overwrought, overdramatic scream, and her son shouts his victory.
She manages a weary smile, at that. But her sister’s voice on the other end of the phone wipes the moment of contentment away.
“No, Paul can’t handle it. You know he works long hours, he-... I beg your pardon?” She sits up, her spine going ramrod-straight, Veronica Higgs has never backed down from a fight in her life and she’s not starting with her own sister. “Paul loves Tris very much. But his work-... Right. Jo, I would love to have a girls’ weekend-”
She’s lying.
“-but Tris’s qualifiers are a huge deal, and if he nails this he could be in line for the U.S. Olympic team in a few years. You know his heart’s set on it.”
There’s silence, and Ronnie’s hand drops down to the table, closing into a fist.
“He goes through the same qualifiers everyone else does, and you know it.”
Behind her, the video game sounds quiet a little, and Tristan murmurs into his headset before he slips it off.
“No, they don’t-... change the rules for-... Joanne, my son is an immensely talented gymnast and you’d know that if you didn’t spend all your time trying to insult him in ways you think I won’t catch! You think I don’t hear the absolute goddamn bullshit coming out of your mouth when my back is turned? Insulting my son? Honestly, Jo, what’s he ever done to you? Huh? Besides be my husband’s son, besides exist? He is a fifteen year old boy! Why do you hate him so much?”
Ronnie breathes slowly out as her sister stammers, stumbles, backpedals like always at the other end of the phone.
“Yeah, I suppose that’s enough for you to write him off, isn’t it? Paul being his father, Tristan looking like him, acting like him... that’s enough, huh? Well, he’s a teenager, and he’s a sweetheart, and he’s smarter than you are, and he’s going to the goddamn Olympics one day and I hope when he gets a fucking medal you reconsider your goddamn bullshit concepts of what Tristan is capable of!”
When she was a teenager, she used to slam the phone down into the cradle. Pushing the little red button on her cell phone is much less satisfying.
She drops the phone onto the table and puts her head into her hands, fighting back tears that threaten, refusing to give them leave to fall. Her breath hitches-... once, twice.
But she’s had these conversations before. Just... not with Jo.
A thin, long-fingered hand touches her back, carefully settles palm-down against her spine between her shoulder blades. She takes another breath. “Hey, Tris. Go play your game with Aki, okay? I’m fine.”
Tristan is quiet, and then he leans over, sliding his arms around her. Her teenage son is all muscle, compact and built for the gymnastics he loves more than anything else in the world.
“I’m, I’m sorry,” He says, awkwardly, against her shoulder. His voice is rough, changing as he ages. Deeper every month, it feels like, cracking sometimes. Her sweet baby boy.
“Me, too,” Ronnie says, softly, leaning back so she can lift a hand to rest it against her son’s face, palm to his cheek. When he was a baby, he used to pat her like that, over and over again. It drove her crazy and it was the sweetest thing in the world. He’s nearly grown and still, deep down, she sees the tiny infant with his puffs of nearly-blond copper hair, nestled against her.
Nearly grown, and with ambitions she had never dreamed of for him when he was new, but will give anything to help him achieve.
“I’m sorry,” Ronnie says softly, “that she’s going to miss out on how amazing you are.”

Mine
Title: Mine Prompt/Day: Day 5 - Baby Rose or Hugo does not sleep Tumblr name: Rating: G Brief summary: A newborn Hugo refuses to sleep. Can Rose be the answer to the young parents finally getting some sleep? Any possible triggering/warning tags: None.
Ever since the day she was born, Rose Weasley-Granger was a blessing to her young parents. Quiet, undemanding and easy to please, life was bloody brilliant with her around, or so her Dad thought.
As she grew, Rose showed great curiosity about the world around her. Even as a toddler, she absorbed every book and every story. When she came across bridges, cranes, or muggle vehicles — she always asked how or why.
Ron was more than happy to indulge her, taking her out for walks, and trips to the museums, places his wife teased him about as he’d always claimed he hated them before Rosie. And when Hermione discovered that she was pregnant again, he braced himself for the incoming questions the now three-year-old might have.
But none came.
Rose accepted that her baby brother was growing inside her mother, her curiosity replaced by the excitement of finally getting a sibling, just like the rest of her cousins. And that was that.
As Hermione’s stomach began to grow, Rose was obsessed and developed an instant love for the life inside. During family cuddles, Ron would often find himself elbowed out of the way so that Rose could get access to the baby bump.
“My baby,” Rose would say to anyone who would listen, splaying her hands across her mother’s belly and giggling as it rewarded her with a kick in response. “My baby. In there.”
⁂
As soon as Ron and Hermione brought Hugo home from St. Mungo’s, Rose claimed him as her own.
But Hugo was unlike his sister.
Restless from his first day in the world, the baby refused to settle, and the parents soon found themselves struggling to sleep or cope with two small people with very different demands to look after.
Ron found himself calling on his mother more than ever, pleading with her to take Rose, something he and Hermione agreed never to do.
Bereft every time they parted the siblings, sending Rose away came with its own problems. She would kick and scream as they forced her into the Floo network, tears marking her face and a look that told her Dad she’d never forgive him for this.
⁂
“I don’t know what to do,” Hermione fretted on their fifth morning with baby Hugo. It had been another night of not sleeping. She bounced him in her arms; his face bawled up. He wanted to be latched to her all the time, yet he rarely fed, meaning she was not getting a break.
Ron looked on desperately. They were out of their depth. Noticing that Hermione was about to give up completely, he held his arms out.
“Let me take him, love. I know I don’t have boobs, but he’ll just have to cope for a bit. You’re so frazzled. Why don’t you go and get a shower, and I’ll try and calm him down. Then when you’re ready, we can try feeding the terror again.”
“Okay,” Hermione whimpered, her entire body sagging against the pressure of not being able to calm her baby.
Taking the bundle of blankets from his weeping wife, Ron pressed a kiss to the top of her head and pushed her towards the bathroom. As soon as she was gone, he started to pace the bedroom floor, following in Hermione’s footsteps. With a million nieces and nephews, Ron had an arsenal of tools to try and help soothe his son, and he was willing to try them all. Hugo must be exhausted with all this crying; maybe he just needed a decent amount of kip.
The roar of the Floo activating distracted Ron from his mission, and he shifted the aggravated baby into one arm before heading down to greet their visitors. He arrived in the living room just in time to see his mum and daughter tumble from the green flames.
“Daddy!” A bundle of bouncy red curls threw herself at his legs, almost knocking him off balance. Her grip was vice-like but comforting. At least one of his children liked him, despite her regular protests at him ‘sending her away’.
“Hugo still not settling down, love?” His mother clucked, peering at the red ball of anger in Ron’s arms.
“Nah, I reckon he’s pissed off that we took him away from Hermione’s womb. He was so comfy in there, getting fat and sleeping. He’s just trying to punish us for it.”
Scooping up her granddaughter, Molly settled on the sofa. “Well, he was over two weeks late; it was about time he came out. Not like his sister, hey Rosie? Perfectly on time and lovely ever since, weren’t you? Where’s Hermione?”
“I’m letting her take a shower. She’s probably trying to drown herself in there, just for a breather.”
“Want me to take Hugo for a bit?” Molly glanced up, a hopeful look on her face. It didn’t matter how many grandchildren the Weasley’s popped out; each and every one was special and exciting.
“Su—” he started, eager for a break from the annoyed newborn, but he was rudely interrupted by his daughter.
“No. Mine.” Rosie’s arms were up in the air, demanding a cuddle from her brother.
“Oh, I don’t know, Rose.” Ron frowned. “Your brother still isn’t a happy bunny, and he’s very noisy. Why don’t you help Nanny cuddle him instead?”
“No, Daddy. My baby.”
Ron was surprised that Rosie hadn’t used accidental magic to summon her brother to her. The adamant look on his daughter’s face, with furrowed brows and curls that crackled with electricity, reminded him of Hermione, and he chuckled. He knew his daughter wouldn’t give up until she got what she wanted.
Glancing at his mum, Ron shrugged and, with her help, placed the baby into Rosie’s arms.
“Aww baby,” Rose cooed, the hand not supporting the baby’s head reaching across to stroke Hugo’s cheek. “My baby. Poor ‘oo-go.”
To Ron’s amazement, the baby calmed down almost instantly. Two bright but unfocused eyes searched the room for the source of his comfort. Something must have assured him that it was close by because Hugo closed his eyes and finally settled down to sleep.
A clammer on the stairs broke the silence, and Hermione burst into the room, a towel wrapped around her body and hair, her eyes wild with fear.
“He stopped crying — what happened? Is everything okay?”
“Rose sorted him out,” Ron stated before collapsing into the armchair and closing his eyes. “Now shhhhhh before you wake the beast up.”
Forcing his eyes open, his heart almost stopped as Rose continued to coo over the baby. He thought he couldn’t love anyone as much as he loved Hermione until these two tiny people were thrust into his life. He just wished they would always be this quiet.
The silence wouldn’t last long. Rosie’s arms were small, so she wouldn’t be able to support Hugo for the rest of the day. And he guessed it wasn’t ethical to allow their three-year-old to look after her brother forever. As parents, they’d need to step in eventually.
Sensing his thoughts, Molly smiled over at him. “Time for your shower, I think, Ronnie. And then maybe the two of you can take advantage of the quiet to have a nap. Rosie and I have things under control. Isn’t that right, sweetheart?”
“Yes, Nanny. Mummy, Daddy. Go!” Rosie beamed up at her grandmother.
“You heard her. Off you go.”
Shaking his head and marveling at the way his daughter already had him under her thumb, Ron got to his feet. He was desperate for a shower and a decent sleep. Placing a hand on the small of his wife’s back, he steered her towards the stairs.
“You heard the child. Its time for us to have a break."

Hey there
Favourite one direction songs??
Hi friend
Thanks so much for asking and what a question this is. You didn't say how many faves so I've put a list of my top 10 below (because I am murder at making decisions) and probably more info than you care for but I had fun choosing.
It's also no secret that my soft spot for Louis is a mile wide and if I had to rate the boys based on my faves he'd come out on top every time, that context may help/be obvious here.
Home
Home being the best One Direction song of all time is a hill I am willing to die on. I don't think I need to explain this beyond the fact that I love it, Louis wrote it and it is criminal that it's never been performed live.
Long way down
I reckon this is the most underrated 1D song, it is bittersweet af and I live for the angsty, anxiety-ridden, sit-in-my-feels way it leaves me every time I hear it.
Where do broken hearts go
This performance specifically, Louis switching so Harry can be next to Ronnie Wood and then Harry having the time of his life and half grinding on Ronnie is an absolute highlight:
No control
Firstly, I love the fact it became a fan project, and that Louis leads the chorus. I absolutely live for those videos of Harry going off while performing it and wriggling around in those skinny jeans. Secondly, it is pretty horny, and while I, like any good brit, despise anything James Corden related post Gavin and Stacey, this interview where he reads the lyrics out and then asks what they're about is one of my fave things:
youtube
Made in the A.M.
I just love it. The whole song is a reference to a shared experience that might be romantic/sexual/platonic and whatever it is I think it's just such a lovely thing. It makes me sad and melancholy and I love to sit in my feels.
Best song ever
Listen, this song hits different in the car, blast that baby at 100 on a Friday afternoon after work and it is like free therapy. Also, the music video is just pure joy to me - it's weird and nonsensical and silly which combined with Harry's performance as Marcel and Zayn's as Veronica alongside all their dance moves means it will forever be in my top ten. (I actually think it is probably my favourite music video they made)
Something great
This is all I have to say:
If I could fly
This is probably the most heartbreakingly romantic of them all in my opinion, and on particularly emosh days it could make me weep. There are two things that add to how much it makes me an emotional wreck: the first is Liam on a radio show saying it was the song off the album that really moved him and how it made him cry; the second is this, and I am grateful every day to the absolute babe who recorded this at the listening party:
youtube
What makes you beautiful
Ah WMYB my beloved, listen it's a total bop. It's as much a bop today as it was when it was released eleven years ago. It's one of those songs that comes on the radio and before you know it, you're belting it out. Solidified by the fact Harry continues to play it every live performance, and how much joy it is to dance around to and by him saying he fell in love to it.
Act my age
Right, listen, this song absolutely slaps. I love the pace of it. It's fun and silly but I actually just vibe with the underlying theme of love that is life-long. The second thing I really, really love about it is how much fun it is to watch live performances of, and how much Niall seems to love it on stage:

Practically a Weasley pt. 2
Charlie Weasley x Reader
Summary: Home for the holidays! Finally, after the end of a bitter war, the Weasleys have some much needed family time to catch up on. The holidays are the perfect time to celebrate family, no? Charlie and (Y/N) seem to agree.
Word Count: 3.8k+
Warnings: None
A/N: A much anticipated part 2 to my Practically a Weasley fic! I love writing for Charlie. Dragon boy just doesn’t get much love, does he? Also Fred ain’t dead. My heart couldn’t handle that if it were true.
Part 1 ... Part 1.5 ... Part 3 ... Epilogue
__
The Burrow was fluttering with delight, the holidays had been finally sworn in with the arrival of the entire Weasley clan. How long had it been since most of the redheaded family sat under one roof, let alone one table? With everyone’s various lines of work and hectic schedules, it was a surprise and a holiday miracle even half of them had shown up.
Bill was enchanting the younger children with vast stories of his work as a curse-breaker (with a little exaggeration, of course). Molly and Arthur were bickering about him bringing yet another Muggle artifact home for the holidays. And Charlie? He sat quietly at the end of the table, humming along to Celestina Warbeck’s newest album, gingerly holding (Y/N)’s hand with delight.
Nothing had changed, not really, not ever.
“How do you know all of the words already? She just released these songs like, two days ago?” (Y/N) chuckled, taking a small sip of the hot beverage in front of her.
“I have a perfect memory,” Charlie mused, rubbing his thumb in circles on the back of her hand. “Or, did you forget?”
“I suppose I did, Mr. Weasley.” (Y/N) grinned, eyes flitting across the various freckles under his brown eyes.
“Such a shame, you really ought to know better, Mrs. Weasley.” A soft peck danced across their lips.
Ah. So something had changed.
“Ew.” Fred spat, eyeing his older brother down from across the table.
“Double ew,” George retorted. “Get a room.”
“They’re married, you gits,” said Ginny, bumping Fred in the arm. “Let them be.”
“She’s my best friend!” groaned Fred.
“Wow,” muttered George, a hand rising to his chest. “After all we’ve been through, Freddie? I’m gutted.”
(Y/N) chuckled quietly at the twins, now not-so-playfully fighting each other across the table. “They’ll never grow up, will they?” Whilst the twins began their fight to the death via dull forks, the newlywed couple pulled away from one another for the first time in hours.
“No, I reckon not,” Charlie hummed, rising from his seat. “If they’re going to continue on like this, I might as well pour myself a glass of firewhisky. Did you want one, love?”
Silently, (Y/N) shook her head, allowing Charlie to flee the scene for a few moments. The album had finally reached the end of the track, resulting in Molly starting it right back up. Ron and Ginny groaned gaudily, as this had been the fifth time she had done so this evening. The two shut right up after Bill had sent them both a quick and sharp glance.
“I must say,” Molly began. “I never imagined the lot of us sitting around one table again,” The war had reached its climatic end only a few months prior, wounds starting to finally heal. “I’m truly blessed to have almost my entire family together for the holidays—”
“—minus Perce, Fleur and Harry, of course!” George piped up.
“Right,” Molly cleared her throat. “As I said, almost the entire family.”
“Fleur sends her regards, truly. But with the condition her mother is in right now, she needed to be home,” Bill responded, again apologizing for his wife’s lack of attendance. “And Percy and Harry will be joining us in the coming days, no?”
“Yeah,” Ron nodded, leaving the absence of his brother and best friend at that. “Harry’s got some errands to run, or whatever. I reckon he’s out buying gifts even when we asked him not to.” Ron chuckled.
“Well, regardless of who isn’t here, we still have a large family. A growing family at that!” Arthur rejoiced, causing (Y/N)’s face to drop slightly. “It’s (Y/N)’s first holidays as an official Weasley!”
(Y/N) felt her face flush. A sigh of relief. “Oh Arthur, that’s hardly anything to celebrate”
“Hogwash,” Charlie retorted, returning with his promised firewhisky, and a glass of water for (Y/N). “You can’t escape now, you’re sorta in it for life, yeah?”
“I feel like it’s already been a lifetime, love.” She chuckled. “Besides, just because we signed some stupid paper and wear these rings—”
“—wonderfully selected by your adoring husband.” Charlie mused, wriggling his left hand. The cool silver shone off his hand, a matching band with (Y/N)’s delicate ring.
“You know what I mean, Charles.” snickered (Y/N). “I mean, I’ve practically been a Weasley since second year!”
“It’s true,” George paused, setting his fork down. “I mean, we would’ve married her first but—”
“—we were too busy being repulsed by the thought!” Fred finished, poking his tongue out slightly.
(Y/N) returned the gesture.
“You lot will never grow up,” said Molly, shaking her head. “Whatever the case, I’m truly blessed to have another daughter.”
“Mum, just remember to think about the daughter you’ve always had, yeah?” Ginny laughed, causing the entire table to join in.
__
Hours passed, with it, a final read through of (Y/N)’s latest project. The sequel to The Distracted Dragon. While she had intended to finish the novel earlier, something larger than herself had erupted in their little world that needed attending to. The various fans of the first story were surely gutted, but to be completely fair to all involved, a war seemed like a pretty eminent reason to move the newest addition on the back burner.
“So you’re telling me… Bancroft gets a girlfriend?” Ron asks, looking to (Y/N) for an answer. She hesitantly gave a nod. “That’s the moral of the story? Get yourself a girlfriend and all your problems will be solved?”
“No,” Fred sniffed, moved by the book. “Ronnie, the moral is that sometimes we need help from another person to grow and accept our past!” With a loud honk into a tissue, he continued to weep.
“Nah, I still think that Harriet solved his problems.” Ron shrugged, popping a crisp into his mouth.
As Fred began to argue with Ron louder, chiming in about Hermione, Charlie gave (Y/N) a simple nod, aiming upwards towards the stairs. She got the hint quickly and excused herself.
“Tired of it yet?” asked Charlie, grabbing (Y/N)’s hand gingerly as they walked up the stairs towards his room. Bill had offered to stay in the twins room while (Y/N) was here, letting the newlyweds to have a space to themselves.
“No, not yet,” replied (Y/N). “Though,” She opened the door. “I’m rather pleased at how keenly Fred took to the book.”
“Ah,” He sat on the bed, waving his wand to shut the door once more. “He’s a bit of a romantic, no?”
“Fred? A romantic?” She laughed, pulling on her pajamas. A simple purple nightie, just touching the tops of her knees. “As if. He’s just… more in tune with the details I reckon.”
“Details… sure. Whatever you say, flower.” Charlie began to pull his socks off, eyeing his wife up and down. “You know… I bet the entire lot downstairs is going to be busy for a while.”
“Oh?” (Y/N) mused, flicking the lights off. “Busy, you say?”
Charlie nodded. “With Ron and Fred’s arguing, they sure drown out the sound, no?” He wriggled his eyebrows, climbing under the quilt next to his wife. A gentle hand caressed her thigh lightly.
“Charlie,” (Y/N) sighed, almost annoyed. “As lovely as the thought is,” He began peppering kisses to her neck, slowly down to her collarbone. “We shouldn’t.”
“Love,” more kisses. “It’s not like we’ve never fooled around up here before,” said Charlie, leaving a suckling mark below (Y/N)’s ear. “You love the risk.”
(Y/N) gently pushes Charlie away. “You’ve had too much firewhisky,” said (Y/N), pecking her husband once on the lips. “And I’m not feeling up for it.”
“Flower, I barely had any firewhisky,” he laughed. “Not nearly as much as you drink, well, normally anyhow,” a puzzled look adorned his freckled face. “Why didn’t you drink tonight? It’s Christmas Eve!”
“Are you saying I need to drink to have a good time?” (Y/N) accused, only half offended.
“Of course not! But you do find any and all reasons to have a nice drink at gatherings like these, it's odd, s’all,” He shrugged. “I mean, it’s a holiday! With the family. Our family. What better time to drink?”
“I didn’t feel like it.” (Y/N) mumbled, flopping down under the covers, turning away from her husband.
“I sense that you’re lying, love.” Charlie said, rubbing her arm gently. “You’re my wife…” mewled Charlie, hanging onto the last word longer than usual. “I’m keen to noticing these things.”
“Oh yeah?”
“Indeed,” he quipped. “You have a rather easy tell, too.” Charlie gave a quick side glance in (Y/N)’s direction, smirking. “You tend to push your hair behind your ears, bite your lip and flick your eyes ever so slightly.”
“I do that all the time.” mumbled (Y/N).
“Does that mean? No…” Charlie gasped. “Could you’ve been lying to me the whole time I’ve known you?”
“Charlie…” (Y/N) groaned.
“Okay, fine,” He laughed. “But you’ve been acting off these last couple of weeks. Not drinking, barely getting any sleep—”
“—which I’m trying to do right now, thank you!” (Y/N) quipped, pulling the covers higher.
“Your mood has been real shit lately too. One moment you’re all smiles, the next you want to send me to the dog house just for looking at you.” Charlie sighed. “And I know it’s not,” his voice lowered to a whisper. “‘that time of the month’ yet, because it was last week, right?”
“No, and stop talking about my period like you’re afraid to say it.”
“Huh… It’s normally around the third week of the month, no?” He mumbled. With a gentle shake of his head, he continued. “Flower, all I’m trying to say is that even when you went to the doctor, they didn’t diagnose you with anything, right? I’m just worried something is wrong with you, (Y/N)”
“Nothing is wrong with me, Charlie.”
“Nothing? You run to the loo to empty your lunch like it’s your job,” He laughed. “I’ve never seen you like this. It’s almost as if—”
He stopped.
“Charlie?” (Y/N) turned around to check on her husband. Charlie just sat, staring forward. “Honey?”
“(Y/N),” He continued to stare forward. “Are you…?”
“Darling,” She sat up, gingerly grabbing his hands. “Look at me.”
Charlie’s eyes were brimming with tears, begging to be let go.
“I wanted to tell you tomorrow, a Christmas present,” (Y/N)’s eyes were swimming with matching tears. “But I guess one present early couldn’t hurt, no?”
His eyes flicked back and forth from his wife’s, waiting for any sign of an answer. (Y/N) nodded her head slightly, fighting back the tears. Charlie wrapped his arms around his wife, hugging her tightly, afraid to let her go. “You’re kidding!” A flurry of kisses brimmed (Y/N)’s head, forming a crown upon her temple. “Love! This is a great—no—the best gift you could’ve given me”
“You’re excited?” asked (Y/N), giggling in her husband’s embrace.
“Of course I’m excited,” Charlie pulled away slightly, meeting his brown eyes with (Y/N)’s, darting between the two rapidly. “A baby. Our baby.”
In an instant, their lips met. Softly at first, crescendoing slowly into an intensity as bright as the stars above, burning hot at the sight. The moment was broken only by the parting for air, quickly returning to the fire before. Was it the thrill of their family below? Or the joy of the family growing between the two? Perhaps it was a bit of both.
“How long?” asked Charlie, rubbing (Y/N)’s upper arm gently. “I mean, how far along are you?”
“Remember that Quidditch match your friend Andre invited us to?” (Y/N) giggled.
“I don’t remember much of the match,” Charlie said, scratching his head. “Come to think of it, you pulled me into an empty stall and we—” His cheeks flushed, burning up to the tips of his ears. “Oh.”
“Yeah,” (Y/N) laughed, brushing Charlie’s hair out of his eyes. “Andre’s team won in the end, by the way.” Another laugh.
“Well, I suppose we both scored,” Charlie joined in the laughter. “But that was about two months ago, no?”
“Something like that. I found out last week at the doctor’s office,” said (Y/N). “It was the hardest thing to keep from you! I was so scared that—”
“—that I’d be upset?”
“Something of that sort, yeah,” (Y/N) mumbled. “Of course I was being a real idiot about the whole thing, I realized that the second you figured it out.”
“Love, I come from a family of nine,” Charlie held his breath. “Now, that’s not to say I want to rival my parents in the baby-making contest, but I’ve always wanted a little piece of that happiness. Especially with you.”
“Charlie if you keep saying shit like that I’m going to cry,” (Y/N) warned, choking back tears, a common theme in the past few minutes. “I can’t believe I was even remotely worried.”
“What was there to be worried about?” Charlie asked, stroking (Y/N)’s hair, fingers twisting the ends lightly.
“I’m not sure. We just got married a little over a year ago, after a bloody war had started no less—”
“—to be fair, we got married during the war.”
“I suppose we technically eloped before the war was over.” (Y/N) mumbled, tracing her hand up Charlie’s chest, resting gently.
“We also got married before Bill,” Charlie laughed. “Not an important detail, but one that I like to rub in his face.”
“Besides your points,” (Y/N) rolled her eyes. “We’re newlyweds! We’re young! I mean, we never even really had the whole ‘baby’ talk before. I was worried we weren’t ready, hardly after a war,” (Y/N) gulped. “I was worried you’d be scared.”
“Love, of course I’m scared. Babies are terrifying,” said Charlie. “With their little hands and tiny feet.” He feigned a grimace, clearly joking. “But you’re right. We are young, but that just means more years of being a family, no?”
“I guess…”
“Now, you’re also right about the ‘baby’ talk. We haven’t really talked about it,” Charlie looked down at (Y/N). “Let’s have it now.”
“I think it’s a little late for that.” (Y/N) giggled.
“Do you ever want to have kids?” Charlie asked, ignoring his wife’s growing laughter.
“Yes.”
“Do you ever want to have a child together?”
“Of course.”
“Then that’s all that matters, right?” Charlie said, his brown eyes meeting (Y/N)’s. “Who cares if it’s a little before we might have planned? I know that we’re going to love the shit out of our child.”
“I know you’re right,” (Y/N) mumbled. “But you don’t have any worries about all of this?”
“Only one,” said Charlie. “I mean, if it’s not a boy to take on the Weasley name, I may consider a divorce.” Charlie hummed, smirking lightly.
“Charlie!” (Y/N) slapped his chest rather firmly, eliciting a slight groan from the redhead. “If you keep joking like that, I may consider divorce first.”
“Flower, you know I could never divorce you,” Charlie laughed, placing a kiss to his wife’s temple. “Besides, with the amount of brothers I have, the Weasley name is rather safe I reckon,” Another kiss to her temple. “Come on, let's get some sleep.” It took only a few fleeting kisses, happy murmurs and mumblings before the couple finally retired for the night.
—
“Well, look at the lovebirds!” George sang from the kitchen table, setting his coffee mug down, eyeing up (Y/N) and Charlie descending from the stairs. “Unusually well rested. Obviously not taking advantage of their own room I see.”
“George,” said Molly, sternly shooting a glance at her son. “Happy Christmas you two.”
“Happy Christmas, mum,” said Charlie, placing a peck to his mother’s cheek. “Happy Christmas George.”
“Yeah, yeah. Christmas or whatever,” George sipped from his mug. “You lot slept in a bit, the rest of the family is outside. You know, completing a family tradition and whatnot. So disgraceful.”
“Ah, but the real disgrace, George, is the fact you also are missing out on the snow angels,” (Y/N) chirped, grabbing a plate of hot breakfast from Molly. “Besides, everyone’s coming in for breakfast soon anyway. No one can resist Molly’s cooking.”
“Oh (Y/N), you humor me,” Molly laughed, opening the window. “Breakfast!” She called out to the rest of her family. One by one, the clan filed into the kitchen, sitting in their respective seats.
“Mum, you outdid yourself again! This food looks delicious.” Bill said, piling a load of eggs onto his plate. He handed the skillet over in Ginny’s direction, eliciting a scowl to the yellow mush beneath her nose.
“Kiss-up.” Ginny mumbled, immediately passing the cooked eggs over to Ron.
The rest of the family began eating, enjoying a rare moment of silence in the Burrow. Only sounds of scraping forks and the occasional burp echoed through the walls. Fred and George were the first to finish their plate, diving into another round of home cooking immediately after. Charlie and (Y/N) sat together, gently hold each other’s hands while they ate, Charlie sitting at the end.
“While you’re all sitting down, I suppose now’s the best time for your gifts!” said Molly, cleaning up the table. She quickly exited the kitchen only to reappear with a rather large bag. “Careful not to get any muck on them, I don’t want to do any washing today.” With a flick of her wand, the colorful stack of wool dispersed evenly among the family, a jumper settling in everyone’s lap.
“Jumpers? Oh boy, what a surprise!” George laughed.
“Really shocked our socks off, mum!” Fred added, unfurling his pile of purple.
“Oh hush,” Molly smirked. “Just go put them on and humor your mother, would you? You seem to find every other opportunity to do so.”
The twins groaned and pulled the fabric over their heads, both of the violet jumpers were adorned with their store’s logo on the front. Bill’s had a niffler, Ron’s had a Chudley Cannons print, Ginny’s had two crossing brooms and Charlie’s had (not surprising anyone) a large white dragon.
“What about yours, love?” said Charlie, elbowing (Y/N) slightly, the light blue wool rubbing against her arm. She turned to face him, the green jumper was decorated with a book and quill, the cover oddly resembling her first book. “Wow! That looks amazing!” He exclaimed. “Mum, how do you keep making these year after year?”
“With patience and a whole lot of love.” Molly smiled.
“Her enchanted knitting needles help too,” Arthur added, brushing biscuit crumbs off his new maroon sweater, ignoring the icy glare from his wife. “Besides, it’s a tradition.”
“A tradition getting harder every year,” Molly sighed. “Thankfully none of you are getting married any time soon, no need to worry about adding any other jumpers to my long list!” She laughed.
“Besides for next year, of course.” said Charlie offhandedly. (Y/N) froze.
“Next year? What’s next year?” Bill asked.
“Yeah, I don’t reckon Fred or George are going to meet anyone by next Christmas.” said Ron.
“Hey!” The twins exclaimed.
“Well…” Charlie looked up, all eyes were on him. A quick glance was given to (Y/N), who shared an equally pale face as him. He shrugged, raising his eyebrows. “You never know when people can meet each other, no? I mean, (Y/N) and I met in a coffee shop of all places!”
“Charlie…” (Y/N) began.
“Hell, we even eloped! Do you know how easy it is to do that?” Charlie continued, nervously bumbling longer sentences. “We got married in like, an hour once we set our sights on it!” He chuckled loudly, trying to drown the attention away from his sweat.
(Y/N) stood up, placing a hand on Charlie’s shoulder. “Before Charlie continues to blabber like a right idiot,” she said, shutting her husband up successfully. He sighed loudly. “I’m pregnant.” The entire table sat in stunned silence.
“That’s amazing!” Fred shouted, breaking the silence, jumping from his seat. “My best friend is having a baby!” He wrapped (Y/N) in a large hug, gripping her tightly.
“Again, am I chopped liver?” George laughed, running over to join the hug. “A baby! Promise that you’ll name him George! Or Fred. Not terribly picky on that.”
“Boys! You shouldn’t hug (Y/N) that hard,” said Arthur. The twins loosened their grip slightly. “Congratulations you two,” He glanced between the happy couple. “Children are a blessing.”
“Is that why you had seven of them?” Ron asked, getting slapped on the shoulder by his mother.
“Oh (Y/N),” Molly cooed, fighting back her tears. "My first grandchild! We couldn’t be more thrilled for you!” She ran over to Charlie, embracing him in the warmest bearhug she could’ve mustered. “I can’t wait to start knitting their jumper! It’ll be so tiny I won’t mind the extra on the list.”
“How long have you been keeping that secret, Charlie?” Bill asked, smiling at his brother, amused at the kisses their mother was placing on Charlie’s cheek.
“He’s barely known a day,” (Y/N) frowned in Charlie’s direction. He smiled sheepishly. “I’ve only known for a week. It’s still early, but we’re excited.”
“I hope it’s a girl,” Ginny added. “That way we’d finally be on our way to have a boys versus girls Weasley quidditch match!”
“With my quidditch skills and (Y/N)'s creative mind? I’m sure they’d be an amazing quidditch player!” Charlie bubbled in delight. “Though, how young would be too young to get them on a broom?”
“Charlie! We’re not putting our baby on a broom!” (Y/N) scolded. “Besides, they could easily get my quidditch skills.”
“But you don’t have any quidditch skills?” Fred said, cocking his head.
“You can hardly keep yourself up on a broom!” George added.
“Exactly,” (Y/N) hummed, sitting down, a hand resting on her barely existing bump. “I say we stop hypothesizing and projecting onto the baby. Whatever they choose to be and do will be great…” (Y/N) sighed. “Because Charlie and I are the best, so our baby is going to be the best baby ever.”
“Nailed it, darling.” said Charlie, high-fiving his wife.
“You two really deserve each other.” Ron groaned.
“We do,” Charlie hummed, beaming down to his wife. “We really do.”
With the big news out of the way, the Weasley’s enjoyed the rest of their holiday morning, welcoming Percy and Harry home later in the afternoon. Once the two were caught up on gifts and laughter, the family had finally found peace in their holiday. No more big secrets, no more stressing about keeping said secrets. Just a relaxing and calming holiday before the whirlwind of parenthood whisked Charlie and (Y/N) up into a tizzy. But they were ready.
They’re Weasleys, after all.

Ronnie: Hey, honey. At the store picking up some things. Anything you want for dinner?
Y/N: Oh, babe, you read my mind. I would love some ice cream, chocolate sauce, cherries, the works… oh, and pickles!
Ronnie: LOL. Okay whatever you and my lil’ pumpkin want. I’ll be home in a little bit.
Y/N: We love you, daddy!
---------------
You put the phone down to adjust your body on the couch, the further along you were getting, the harder it was to feel comfortable, let alone pretty. But Ronnie never failed to make you the happiest woman in the entire world. Always asking what you needed, rubbing every inch of your body when it ached, running baths to soothe you and your growing little one, and fucking you whenever you had the rush to eat him alive.
He always went out and got whatever you needed, even if it meant waking up from a dead sleep at four in the morning all because ‘the baby’ wanted some black olives that seemed to be missing from the pantry. He was so selfless that way and in every way. You thanked whatever entity over and over again that he and you had met at the diner that one day. Both ordering the same cheeseburger and milkshake for lunch, sitting across the way, shooting glances as his mouth devoured the meat like the carnivore he was, and then proceeding to do the same to you in his smart car not even thirty minutes later.
The both of you were inseparable at that point. Loving the same things, watching the same shows, eating the same foods. It was kismet in every single sense of the word and even more so when you found out that a carbon copy of you both was on the way.
You sat there, contemplating the last year, waiting for your knight in shining armor to arrive home with the good stuff, rubbing your protruding belly as your little girl flailed around like the deviant she was.
“I know sweetie,” you whispered to your bump, “daddy will be home in a little while,” glancing up as you heard the key turn in the lock.
“Hey, there ladies,” your grinning husband beamed as he saw you cuddled up on the couch waiting for him, “how’s my favorite girls?” he put the paper sack down and knelt between your legs, pulling your face to him with his large hands, kissing you with the sweetest effort he could muster.
“We’re good daddy,” you grinned, grabbing his face in your hands, rubbing your thumbs along his shaven cheeks, admiring his soft pouted lips, “we missed you today.”
He sighed, bringing his hands to meet your bump, rubbing it to get his daughter’s attention, “I missed you girls too,” bending his head down to meet your clothed skin, kissing the baby, “So. Much.”
A series of flutters hit his hands as your daughter squirmed at his honeyed voice, “I think we’re slightly hungry, huh, baby girl,” he laughed as he felt more kicks pummel his fingers.
“God, yes we are,” you whined as he got up to pick up the sack and bring it to the kitchen, “comin’ right up ladies,” he smiled grabbing the stuff out of the bag and chuckling at your excitement when bringing the jar of dill pickles and a fork your way.
He kissed your forehead after taking the food, “I’m gonna make our sundaes after I get changed, okay honey?”
“Ronnie, I can make the food,” you said struggling to lift your body from your spot.
“Woah there mama,” he pushed you and your pickles back on the plush sofa, “I can do it. How about you queue up the show and put your feet up. I’ll rub ‘em when I sit down.”
“Honey I really wan-,”
“No,” he scolded, “you and my daughter relax while I get the menial tasks done that you shouldn’t bother yourself with. You’re the one doin’ all the hard work after all,” he grinned again, his glasses moving up his perfectly chiseled nose, displaying his precious dimples.
You prayed that your little girl would get those perfect features of his. The ambered eyes, the dark hair, the moles that littered his body. He was too damn perfect.
“Okay honey,” you sat back, balancing the jar on your belly as you shoved one pickle down your throat, rolling your eyes back into your head at the satisfaction of sustenance. He chuckled again, padding upstairs to change into more comfortable clothes as you got your weekly show ready for viewing.
He made his way down after changing into a pair of black joggers, and a grey t-shirt, the sight of him hopping down the stairs causing a warmth to radiate through your pussy. After a few minutes of cabinet opening, and fridge closing, he came into the room armed with the majestic concoctions he’d created for the both of you, grinning ear to ear at the sight of your doe eyes twinkling at the food.
“Babe,” you looked at him, “I love you so much, this looks amazing!”
“I thought you’d like all the fixings,” he grinned even wider, sitting down and handing your special sundae to which you located where the pickle jar had been.
He situated himself with an arm around you, and the sundae on his thigh, lifting the blanket you’d had over him so he could scoot even closer. After some rearranging, you pressed play on the show you’d decided on and devoured your ice cream as if you’d never had any your entire life.
Half an hour in you held the empty bowl, thinking about sitting up to put it on the coffee table. You started to strain up to put it there, when Ronnie noticed your movements before you could even put them to action, “honey, here,” gesturing his large hand to which you placed it in and he did the deed for you.
Sitting back after putting both bowls down, he threw his arm back around your shoulder, and the other to meet your belly, rubbing the spot as you laid your head between his neck. He looked down at the scene before him, smiling and kissing your crown, taking in the jasmine-scented shampoo that emanated from your gorgeous hair. Grinning yet again as he saw his unborn daughter writhe under his touch.
His eyes wandered to your plunging cleavage, where a stream of chocolate sauce had found its home. His eyes widened at the glimmer from it, thinking of how he’d love to cover you head to toe in the mixture and lick every single bit of it from your perfect skin. His loose cock straining in his joggers as he became restless at the thought of bending you over the couch and stuffing you fuller than you already were of him.
“Babe?” you looked up at his lust-blown eyes behind his glasses, “are you okay?” running your hand to brush his painful erection.
“What’s going on?” looking at him with concern, “do you need something?”
“Honey,” he calmly stared into your eyes, “I need to do something,” his lips fell into a pout.
“Okay?” you gestured, “what is it?”
“I need to fuck you,” he matter of factly said, gripping your belly with his hand.
Your lower stomach twisted in a knot, “o-okay babe, that’s fine with me,” you chuckled at his desperation.
“But I need to cover you,” he moved his hand to plunge in between your tits, the motion causing a gasp to leave your mouth, “with chocolate sauce,” he said showing you the amount that had found its way there in the first place.
You were fully on fire at this point, willing to let him cover you in anything he wanted to get him to fuck you good and hard.
“Get the bottle,” you gripped his forearm, pleading him to wreck you.
He jumped from the couch and ran to the kitchen to grab the large bottle of sauce, grinning like a fucking kid in a candy store. In the time he had grabbed it and run back, you were already completely undressed and sat upon the edge of the couch, tits, and belly protruding out as you arched your back towards him.
“Fuck, honey,” he beamed at your changed body, opening the bottle to drip it on your delicate skin, “you look fucking delicious,” watching the cascade of sweetness drip into the crevices of your breasts.
You sat there, completely dazed as your husband painted a mural on your tits, musing as he watched the chocolate cover your engorged peaches.
“Perfect,” he marveled, capping the bottle and setting it on the coffee table. He made quick to remove his shirt, displaying his thick body to which you shuddered at the sight.
“Suck my fuckin’ tits babe,” you mewled, falling to pieces as he brought his lips to your aching buds, sucking the life out of them as he situated himself between your legs kneeling before you on the couch again. His hands caressing your luscious pregnant curves, rubbing the sauce all over his face and your jugs.
“These fuckin’ tits,” he moaned, “they’re gonna be the death of me, honey,” removing his glasses as he devoured them, leaving no trace of chocolate as he finished his work.
He gazed at your blissed-out face, taking in the sounds you made and the way your lips parted as he made you fall apart over his gestures. His hand wandered down to your heat, feeling the wetness seeping out of your weeping cunt for him.
“So fuckin’ delicious,” he groaned, rubbing the skin with his middle finger.
“I want you to ride me, honey,” he begged with golden eyes.
You of course couldn’t resist his puppy dog pleading and made him lay back on the couch like the good boy he was.
“Take your pants of babe,” helping him undo his joggers as his large cock sprung free from its cage. Grabbing it in your soft hands and pumping it as he guided you onto his lap, your juicy thighs straddling either side of him. You let him help you guide your pussy to his tip, settling down as the shaft was covered by your walls as you sank down.
“Fuck, Ronnie,” you whined out, feeling every inch of him touch your fluttering pussy, “you make me feel so damn full babe.”
Undulating your hips on his lap, his hands gripping your sides with a bruising touch, rocking you back and forth on his body.
“Yeah, honey?” he panted, “you like bein’ all full of me don’t you?”
Thrusting up into your cunt, knocking on your tight cervix, releasing a piercing moan from your open mouth.
“Goddammit!” you screamed speeding up your motions, “I fucking love it so much!”
Your tits bouncing at his gyrations, your belly on display, it was almost too much for your poor husband. Your walls began to clench around him, signaling your orgasm, to which he moved his left hand down towards your throbbing clit. Rubbing tight little circles as he watched you unravel in front of him for the millionth time that night.
“That’s it, honey,” he growled, “fucking cum all over my cock. You know you want to.”
Watching your face look down at him, screaming for release, “I wanna cum on your big cock babe!”
“Fuck Y/N,” his eyes went wide as your pussy released its sweet nectar, causing his pulsations to quicken.
“I’m gonna fuckin’ fill you up,” he gritted his teeth as you were rag-dolled on his thighs, sweat beading up on his forehead as he watched you grip your aching tits whining and moaning like a whore on his thick cock splitting you in half.
“Stuff me full babe!” you cried out, rubbing your sensitive nipples, as he slammed your hips harder with his. He let out a feral growl as his dick twitched inside you, releasing his potent seed into your sopping hole. He pumped up and down slowly, watching the mixture began to seep out, only to have this bright red cock push it back in with a squelch and a groan.
You both took some deep breaths, stilled in position, still gripping your tits as his hands left your hips to grip your bump, “you girls okay?” coming out of his haze in concern.
“Yes babe,” you laughed moving to get off his lap to be more comfortable, “we’re just fine, I promise,” patting his blushing chest as he tried to control his pulse while helping you get into position. He sat up, grabbing your t-shirt from the ground as well as his, helping you place it back on, kissing every inch of your face and neck as he did so.
“I love you, Y/N,” he grinned, pulling your face to his in a searing kiss as your fingers found his loose strands, pushing them back as your tongues danced over each other.
You pulled off, gazing into the swirl of his ambered eyes, still petting the baby hairs that had stuck to his face, “I love you too babe.”
At that moment, your daughter made her presence known again, sandwiched in between your sweat covered bodies. Ronnie brought his large hand to meet your over your belly, “she’s gonna be mad at us all night now, huh?” he laughed, rubbing on the spot where her little foot was poking in and out.
“Ya,” you agreed, “I’m gonna be up all night with her I think,” putting your other hand over his and kissing his cheek as you both sat back into the embrace of the couch.
Leaning down to press his lips to your bump, “pumpkin you’d better not give your mama any grief tonight,” he pecked a few times, rubbing his thumb over the flutters erupting, “she needs to sleep just as much as you do baby girl.”
Your hands rubbed the back of his head as he nuzzled on your belly, cradling it as he shushed your squirming little one. The sounds of his hushing lulling you to sleep in the light of the tv playing the show you’d both been neglecting.
After a few minutes of rubbing and cooing, he lifted his head to look at your sleeping form, admiring the way your face looked so peaceful in the white light of the tv. He kissed your forehead, gripping under your knees and back, lifting your dead weight into his hulking body. He sauntered up the stairs, carefully moving you out of the way of sharp objects and corners as he found your shared bedroom. He placed you gently on the bed, making sure you were on your side, and grabbed the body pillow you’d worn out over the last few months of its purchase.
He placed it just so it supported the baby, and your aching body, watching as you closed in on its plushness, sighing in relief when you’d relaxed on it. He stared in the dim light of your bedside lamp in total adoration of you, noticing the baby moving in your body as you quietly snored.
He bent down once more to kiss the appendage poking out, “go to sleep baby girl,” he whispered on your skin, “mama and I love you to the moon and back, pumpkin,” kissing it again and then moving up to you.
“Goodnight honey,” he whispered into your ear, kissing it at softly as he possibly could, “I love you more than life itself.”
He switched the lamp off, and slid into his side of the bed, enveloping himself around you, cradling his baby. Letting out a heavy sigh as he let the sweet sounds of your snores lull him to sleep.

Come Find Me
Come Find Me
by rons-hermiones
Summary: Unplanned, Hermione is forced to spend Christmas at the Burrow due to her grandmother falling very ill. After being ignored by Hermione for weeks, Ron is determined to show her how much she means to him. Just before he gets the chance to tell her, Bellatrix Lestrange shows up with other plans for Hermione. Can Ron get to her before it's too late? (Ron/Hermione Half-Blood Prince AU)
Rating: M for language & dark themes in later chapters.
Chapter Thirteen
With unsure nods, the pair vacated the kitchen and back into the living room. There was a mix of weeping family members and those out doing something. Searching the area, thinking of where Hermione could’ve gone.
Ron soon decides he’s done being in the mourning category. He needs to remain strong and vigilant, for no one else but Hermione.
“Someone needs to get Dumbledore here.” Ron’s shaky voice says, commanding all eyes to him.
“Albus?” Arthur asks curiously, his eyes a little glassed over as he rubs Molly’s back.
The youngest Weasley brother nods, “You-Know-Who he wanted,” he inhaled, trying to keep his voice leveled, “he wanted Hermione.”
Eyes widened in shock. Bill’s mouth hangs open as Lupin furiously paces the room, tapping at his temple.
“What would that bastard want with Hermione?” George grumbles lowly, but it’s loud enough for everyone to hear.
“We don’t know,” Harry finally spoke, “that’s why we need Dumbledore. Now.” His tone left no room for argument.
“I’ll do it.” Lupin tells the group, stalking off to the kitchen.
Everyone was rather astounded by the proclamation, they were expecting Remus to push Ron or Harry to divulge what happened.
“I got it.” Tonks announced, suddenly appearing from the back door.
Everyone whirled around to face her, “her wand, I have it. It’s Hermione, isn’t it?” The woman’s voice became softer.
Ron stepped forward and gently took it from Tonks hand.
‘Not so brave without our wand, are we muddy?’
He shivers as the cold wood caresses his hand.
“She hasn’t got a wand,” Ginny moaned behind the veil of hair she had been hiding behind, “she’ll die.”
“Oi Ginny!” Ron said angrily, no one had ever seen him this mad before, his sister flinched.
“Don’t you say things like that.” Molly told her daughter, hugging her to her chest.
They were all interrupted by a soft rapping on a nearby window.
“Dumbledore already?” Charlie said aloud.
Instinctively, Ron pocketed Hermione’s vine wood wand and drew his own. Arthur lurched to the window, ready to strike, when he stopped.
Breathing a sigh of relief he turned, “it’s your owl Harry.”
“Hedwig?” He asked suspiciously as he stalked toward the bird.
Tied to her leg was a rolled up piece of parchment. Giving her a nice pet first, he soon untied the contents and noticed it was addressed to Hermione.
“Who is it?” Bill asked.
He sucked in a breath, “it’s for Hermione, it’s from her parents.” His voice dropped at this.
Molly suddenly let out a small cry, completely forgetting that her own parents were to be told that their child, their only child, was gone.
“What’s it say?” Fred piped up from his spot on the arm chair.
Harry’s eyes fell on Ron’s, “I’m not sure if it’s my place to open it.”
Wordlessly, he passed the envelope over to Ron, whose mouth was agape at being trusted with such a thing.
Ignoring the gazes from his family, he peeled open the thing and let his eyes fix on the page. He skimmed every other line as certain sentences stuck out.
Merry Christmas!
We’ll send your gifts as soon as we’re home.
I hope you’re being kind to the Weasley’s.
We’re sorry to tell you this way, please don’t be too upset.
Grandma Jean passed last night, on Christmas Eve.
It was peaceful.
She thought of your grandpa.
She thought of you.
Don’t disappear on the Weasley’s.
Stay where you are.
We’re fine.
You have Ron and Harry.
We love you.
See you soon.
He let the parchment flutter to the ground. He hadn’t had it in him to read the entirety of it, but what he read was enough.
The phrases like ‘don’t disappear’, ‘stay where you are’, and ‘see you soon’ reverberated around in his head.
“Ronnie, what is it?” Bill probed gently from his spot next to Fleur.
He swallowed the bile in his throat, “her grandmother, she passed. She’s gone.” A few gasps filled the room, “their daughter, she’s, she’s gone too. How are we gonna tell them? How am I gonna tell them? It’s all my fault.”
Despite not knowing what entailed, no one, besides Ron himself, blamed him for what happened.
“Ron,” his mother swiftly budged in, ready to console her son.
However, he was having none of it, he didn’t deserve it, “her parents they don’t know about any of this.”
Late at night in fifth year, he found Hermione in the common room. She was working mercilessly over a piece of parchment as tears pooled on the pages. When he asked what was wrong, she finally let it out and admitted she’d been living a lie. Telling her parents Hogwarts was lovely and the only thing on her mind were exams. No dark lord, no death eaters.
For a brief moment, he wondered if Harry knew too.
“Not about You-Know-Who, not about Cedric, the department of mysteries, not even about prejudices against Muggleborns.” He admitted to everyone in the room.
And by the look on Harry’s face, this was news to him.
“Did you know?” Ginny dared to ask Harry.
At this, the chosen one shook his head. Suddenly feeling guilty, Harry had been wallowing so much in his own problems he failed to be there for Hermione, who was fiercely loyal to him.
“Why would she lie about that?” Fleur butted in, not judgmental, but just trying to understand.
“She was scared they’d take her out of Hogwarts.” He told everyone, Tonks nods in understanding, her dad being a Muggle.
“Because of me.” Harry said without missing a beat.
“No,” Ron protested.
“Yes, she wouldn’t be in this position if it weren’t for me. She wouldn’t be gone, she wouldn’t be lying to her parents.” He stated, sure that was the case.
“You’d also be dead without her.” His best friend stated with conviction. Ron was already lost in self wallowing, the last thing he needed was for Harry to drown in it too. “We both would be.” He couldn’t help but add, despite the situation being so close to home.
“Ronnie,” Fred’s voice, sounding the most gentle he’s ever heard, broke through the air, “can you tell us what happened? Please.” He pleaded. After all, everyone here cared for Hermione too.
A few times Ron opened and closed his mouth, not really knowing what to say. After fumbling like a fish for two minutes, he settled for something, “I’m not-“ I’m not strong enough.
But, the words never came, a crack sounded outside, and for a sickening moment he imagined Bellatrix Lestrange to waltz through the door.
Instead, he was meant by his fathers shouts, “it’s Dumbledore!” He exclaimed, opening the back door.
In a moment's notice the Headmaster's looming six foot frame is towering in his doorway and at the sight, Ron knows somewhere within him he has to manage to be strong enough.
“Albus.” Molly said, relieved at the sight of him, “we’re sorry to do this to you on Christmas and all.” She stood wiping at her eyes.
The old man didn’t have the heart to tell everyone here that Christmas had long gone, it was nearing two in the morning.
“Of course Molly. I’ve had Remus go collect Alastor and Kingsley. Nymphadora, do you mind getting Minerva for me?” He asked kindly, annoyingly calm if you ask Ron.
Dumbledore, being one of the only people to get away with calling her that, Tonks just nodded to him as she stalked out to the backyard.
Ron gulps, it’s just now hitting him how serious this all is. The Albus Dumbledore, the most powerful Wizard living, someone with their own bloody chocolate frog card is in his living room. But there’s no time to marvel at it or even feel shocked, because he knows why he’s here.
He’s here because Hermione’s gone.
Next, the white haired man found a spot on the sofa and surprisingly plopped down. “Now, I need to know everything if I am to help.”
Ron’s still reeling from telling Harry and because of the owl from Hermione’s parents. And by the looks of it, Harry’s feeling the same as he stands stock still and paler than usual.
Thankfully, Bill notices the boys expression and takes over as much as he can, “it all started we were all in here, opening gifts, and then,”
“I was in the garden, we-,” he swallows the lump in his throat, “we were in the garden.” Ron almost whispers.
A little awkwardly, unsure what to say, Bill just nods and goes on, “we were opening gifts and we heard a crack, apparition.” Dumbledore nods at this.
“Two cracks.” Charlie interrupts, earning a slanted look from Bill.
Doing his best to not get frustrated by the multitude of people butting in, he ignores it. “So we went outside. We heard her first...” he trailed, not wanting to say it.
“It is crucial you tell me everything that happened, everything that was said.” Dumbledore reminded at his uncertainty.
“Bellatrix,” Harry’s shaky voice said, “she was saying how she killed Sirius.”
Everyone, Bill included, waits for Harry to continue the story on, but instead the dark haired boy offers the eldest Weasley a nod.
“Greyback was with her too.” Bill added, “She didn’t say much honestly, nothing out of the ordinary. Recognized the lot of us, Tonks, Lupin, Harry, called us blood traitors, remembered Hermione from the ministry.” At the mention of her name the room tensed, “then she casted incendio around the Burrow and skipped away, literally.”
Neither Ron or Harry made a move to fill in the gaps.
Bill sighed, “Harry, he ran after her, Hermione followed, so did Ronnie. By the time they were all gone, the fire, it blocked the path.”
At the admission, the chosen one's eyes bulged, “it’s all my fault. She ran after me.”
“Harry,” Ron tried weakly.
Sensing the lack of energy, Fred surprisingly jumped in, “if one of you went all three one of you would’ve. You know that just as well as I do.”
“Mr.Weasley is correct, now I know this may be difficult but I’m going to need one of you to please tell me what occurred. This is the only way I’m able to help your friend.” The old man eyed Ron and Harry who had found themselves standing side by side against the window.
“I can’t say much, I was running before I stunned Greyback. Hermione and Ron were with them longer.” Harry was able to speak, mustering any courage he had left.
Ron stared blankly at his headmaster.
“Ron.” His mother said gently, “please.” She sounded like she was crying.
Sucking in a shaky breath, he hoped to some higher power this would be the last time he ever told this story. He knew he would be reliving it for the rest of his nights, whenever he fell asleep.
“I didn’t hear Bellatrix say much, not the first time at least,” this made the room shudder, “all I could see was her wand pressed to Hermione’s throat, Greyback was eying her like a meal, so I tried to disarm her.” His voice dropped, “it didn’t do anything, I couldn’t use any spells, I couldn’t hurt Hermione.” Ron’s eyes grew glassy, “then Harry came.”
Seeing Ron needed a minute, the dark haired boy jumped in, “I stunned Greyback. He fell to the ground. It surprised Bellatrix, Hermione was able to get away. Next thing I knew, I was running.” His eyes flicked back to blue ones.
“So were Hermione and I. She started going-going,” he’s stuttering, “going on about how Lestrange told her that You-Know-Who, he’s been talking about her.”
Small gasps filled the room, even Dumbledore’s eyes grew wide, “about Miss Granger?”
Ron nodded stiffly, “she was certain they wouldn’t kill her, said they needed her for-for something. Bellatrix, she said she wasn’t here for Harry.”
It was Harry’s turn for answers. His eyes pleaded with Dumbledore for any piece of wisdom, practically begging to know what game they were playing at. However, for once, the old man didn’t seem to know any answers now, they laid with Ron.
The youngest Weasley brother sensed his responsibility and thought of Hermione, using her to be strong.
“We stopped by the old oak tree to catch our breaths, we knew we had to go after Harry, but before we could we heard the two of them. She thought we were Harry, when she said as much, Greyback asked why it had mattered, they were on strict orders not to kill him.”
“Why?” Harry’s voice broke, he needed to know. Bellatrix had ample opportunities to end it but she hadn’t.
Dumbledore shook his head, “I can’t say for certain Harry. It sounds as if Voldemort,” the Weasley family shivered at the name, “wants you for himself. Tom has always been one for theatrics, anything for an act of defiance. What I can’t understand is why they didn’t attempt to apparate you.” He voiced aloud.
Slowly, the Boy-Who-Lived nodded in acknowledgment, but certainly not in understanding.
“What happened next Ron?” The man asked softly.
He cleared his throat nervously, “Bellatrix, she said if she found me, that she’d-she’d kill me.” Nearby, Molly moaned in pain, falling into Ginny, “that I was just another blood traitor. But for Hermione, she said-” he shut his eyes tightly, “said she’d be a perfect gift for him.”
They all knew who ‘he’ was. Fleur was trembling as the story continued, Ginny had the urge to clamp her hands over her ears, Charlie was fully engaged, and the twins nervously eyed the floor.
“Said she was the brilliant one and all that, that she must know something and they’d get it out of her.” He released a breath, “Merlin, she’s so stupid, so stupid.” He began to cry.
“Ron, you need to tell them. For her.” Harry reminded in an equally as broken whisper, clapping a hand on his shoulder to give him strength.
“She knew they wanted to kill me and she knew they didn’t wanna kill her...” he trailed, wiping at his eyes.
“No.” Fred said aloud, before he could help it, dropping his head in his hands, putting together what happened.
“She casted the stunning spell on me and a disillusionment charm, there was a crack and she was gone.” Ron said it rushed, sloppily, unable to even get through it before collapsing against the wall.
Molly stood up, sat down and embraced her son.
“Did Bellatrix perform any spells or curses on Hermione?” Dumbledore asked the sobbing boy.
“Albus.” Missus Weasley scolded.
Ron shook his head numbly, “expelliarmus, that was it.”
The old man paced around the room before directing his attention to Harry and Ron, the latter now calming in his mother’s embrace.
“Did she know something?” He asked flustered. Harry’s never heard the professor sound so rushed, so panicked. It worried him to the core.
Frantically, Potter shook his head, “I don't know, maybe, no? I don't know.” He’s panicking now too.
The white haired man turns his attention to Ron, “she wouldn’t have to me anything, she wouldn’t.” It broke his heart even more, it’s just now hitting him that Hermione’s gone and he can’t remember the last thing he said to her. Just what he wanted to say.
“Has she been fixated on anything? Talking, asking, reading?” He lists off, Harry hasn’t heard him use this tone since his name was pulled from the goblet of fire.
The boys look at each other and think, but nothing comes up, they can’t even see straight.
“That book.” Ginny states in a crisp voice, “she’s been reading the same book for weeks. Writing notes on it.”
He rounded to the young girl, “what book?”
Ginny shook her head unknowingly, “I don’t know. She puts it away whenever anyone comes around.” Her voice is uneven, but it’s evident she wants to help anyway she can.
“The cover is black, there’s gold trim. There’s no title, very old looking.” Fleur speaks for the first time, recalling their time under the tree.
“Do you know where it is?” He seemed determined to find it, Harry sensed realization in his eyes.
Fleur shook her infadictly, Ginny shrugged, “her trunk?” She suggested.
“Please take me there.” He said to no one in particular.
Over his large frame, Ginny’s eyes found Harry’s, she nodded at him, signaling it was his duty.
“Follow me.” Harry stood from the floor and rushed to the steps.
Dumbledore’s robes flew behind him as the old man climbed the steps with fervor. When he reached Hermione’s trunk, he flung it open unceremoniously and ripped through its contents like a mad man.
Harry had half the heart to scold him and be more gentle with her things. And he was just about to say as much, until the headmaster stopped moving.
In his old, shaking hands, was that old thing that had been attached to Hermione for weeks.
Harry had asked her about it a few times, she just said it was for ‘light reading’ and brushed him off. He chose not to mention it, reading was ordinary for her.
Next, a brown journal was being pried open by Dumbledore. By the looks of it, the pages were spelled as he whispered a counter incantation to it as the witches neat scrawl filled the pages.
“Hey, it’s just her diary! That’s private.” He scolded.
And for the first time since they got up here, Dumbledore turned to him, eyes wide as saucers.
“This is no diary Harry.”

AAHHH what a fabulous fest!! Thank you Frozen Over mods, and thank you to all of the creators who have participated and gifted us MIND-BLOWING fanworks in this fest. I’m utterly grateful.
I’ve barely made a dent in the number of works I’ve read and the last 24 hours have been a mad rush in trying to get this done, so here goes nothing:
FROZEN OVER BINGO BLACKOUT:
A fic with a rare pair or friendship pairing — i thought i'd ask you just the same
Literal heart eyes for this glorious twylexis, where they bring out the best in each other, obviously!
A fic hot enough to melt snow — the weather outside is frightful
This tender and sexy fic definitely warms Patrick up! *wink wink*
A fic involving a winter sport or pastime — Five Ways to Ruin A First Date
I’m totally counting sledding as the winter pastime. What a hilarious and heartwarming take on one of my favourite tropes ‘there was only one bed’ but in this case, there was only one SLED.
A fic that made you feel cozy — hopes as high as a kite
What a delightfully soft and tender fic that pulled me apart and put me back together in the best ways. Really got into all my Patricky feels.
A fanwork with art — [art] a very brewer christmas
This artwork is GORGEOUS. The expressions on David, Patrick, Marcy, Clint, all have a story to tell. The attention to detail is wonderful
A fic shorter than 2000 words — Last Christmas
Love David and Patrick creating new traditions together
A winter-themed au — Drink a toast to innocence, Drink a toast to now
The pining! The teasing! The flirting! The twists! *chef’s kiss*
A fanwork with podfic or other multimedia — Come In From the Cold
Ray and Ronnie have the most delightful dialogue in this one. I love how this fic digs into Ronnie’s dating life. DULCE! makes an impressive appearance. The podfic is GLORIOUS and all of the soundscaping just heightens the experience incredibly. My heart belongs to Joni Mitchell.
A fic with holiday or family traditions - Christmas at Ronnie’s
Ronnie and Stevie spend Christmas together over the years. I’m a sucker for these two poker-faced softies having created their own traditions. Lotsa found family feels.
A fic involving retail or a workplace - Pining For You
Literal and figurative *pining* as David and Patrick work across the road from each other, annoy each other, and also flirt a lot.
A fic with a favorite trope - It’s Always Been You
There! Was! Only! One! Bed! C’mon!! I’m such a sucker for this trope!
A fic that made you laugh or cry - Good Winter
I AM DECEASED! I AM A WEEPING MESS! I AM WRECKED! Bon Iver is one of my all-time *faaaaavourite* artists, so my response to this was extremely visceral and I have no words. I’m ready to fling myself into the ocean. This isn’t a fic, it’s *ART*
Free Space - All I Want, aka O Christmas Trope
FAKE DATING, Y’ALL! Another trope I’m a sucker for, and a fic I’m ready to re-read over and over. I did not want this one to end! Truly, I love these idiots so much.
A fic longer than 10000 words - Bells All Ring, Horns All Blow
This was one of my prompt fills and ahhhhh!! It is absolutely CHARMING AND GORGEOUS, and I am in AWE of the well of emotions in this. Thank you for this beautiful gift!!!
A canon-compliant or future fic - along for the ride
an incredibly moving, stunning, and powerful story that I will definitely be re-reading!
A fic with cooking or baking - Rose Apothecookie
I went literal for this one— That RA facade! All the little character details! Alexis’ necklace! Johnny’s pocket Square! Moira’s embellishments! Beautiful!
A fic with holiday rom-com vibes - A Cardamom Christmas
This was also one of my prompt fills and it is absolutely DELICIOUSSSSS in every way! So rom-com-y and so tender and sweet! The banter and flirting was so swoony, and David as an artist is a total JAM for me! Thank you for this gift!!!!
A fic you already reread or plan to reread - Where Every Stay Feels Like Home
Two words: ESCAPE! ROOM! There are so many jokes and details in this fic that I need to re-read this to really absorb them all! It’s funny with so much heart, and the character voices are on-point. What a wonderful tribute to the show!
A fic with inclement weather - Hurt for the Holidays
This fic is sooo much more than the inclement weather! But the weather conditions are responsible for *accidentally* bringing them and keeping them together. Wonderfully flirty, funny, and delightful, despite the circumstances they meet in!
Read all the fics released on one day - Day 1, aka 12/1 (and then I couldn’t keep up! We are sooo spoiled as a fandom)
A fanwork with caroling or music - Singles Week
David says I love You to his butter-voiced beau. But what if you could sing about his day to the tune of Jingle Bells? This is perfection!
A fic with parents/in-laws - It’s My (Christmas) Party and I’ll Panic if I Want To
A fantastic marriage of ‘Merry Christmas Johnny Rose’ and ‘Meet the Parents’ and seeing all the parents together this way in a holiday setting is what I would have loved from the show.
A fic set outside of schitt’s creek - you’re here (where you should be)
TED! ALEXIS! GALAPAGOS! FIX-IT!! ALL THE GOODNESS YOU’D EXPECT FROM THIS!!! AHHH!!!
A fic with magical elements - The Snow it Melts the Soonest
Patrick is a snowman, and… can you be murdered by a fic? Because this murdered me.
A fic with a holiday other than christmas - Have Yourself A Happy Little Hanukkah
Love the exploration of David’s relationship to his Jewish-ness, and I love Patrick wanting to do something special for David

Weep Not for the Memories (John Deacon x Freddie Mercury)
Summary: John is devastated after Freddie’s death. A nighttime visit from his departed friend helps him contemplate moving forward, as he grapples with the loss.
A/N: Yup, this is sad. BUT I try to be a glass-is-half-full sort of gal, so the story shows how Freddie helps John cope with the loss by keeping their memories close and embracing all the good in his life as he considers his future. Here’s to lovely memories of Freddie, to those Queen boys who loved him – and still do and this community that celebrates him!
Special thanks to @painkiller80 for providing great edits and to @melisa-may-taylor72 for those Japan videos, which showed me the perfect outfit for Freddie :)
Warnings: Mention of death, sorrow, some tooth-rotting song lyrics (bolded & referenced at the end)
The November Sunday morning dawned grey and damp as most did that time of year. A wind whipped up the fallen leaves and blew them into almost perfect whirling oblong circles. He arose and prepared for the day. She stayed sleeping on her side, cuddled under the blankets. Once downstairs, he started the kettle for tea and ventured to the doorstep to pick up the newspaper that leaned carelessly against the front door. There it was: Freddie’s announcement of his illness.
John was surprised but not shocked. The reality they had been living with for years was finally revealed in black and white. And with it, there was no more denying, no hope that he would be cured and no thinking that maybe, just maybe, it wasn’t as bad as it really was. Of course, they knew the truth from his deterioration and his rueful jokes, but so long as it wasn’t officially announced in print, they could still hope -- or deny the harsh reality. He folded up the paper and shoved it into the entry foyer shelf between boots and hats and scarves.
He carried on with the morning routine, preparing breakfast before church. The kids started to amble down the steps and he corralled them around the kitchen table to eat, keeping he banter light, responding to them as needed, mustering great concentration to be in the moment. Veronica joined them, holding the youngest’s hand cajoling them to finish up and dress for church, which they did. Attired and groomed neatly, they gathered by the door without fussing or fighting, bantering or bossing, asks or antics, as though they anticipated the ominous afternoon that lay before them. After church, the kids scattered to the family room turning to regular Sunday pre-lunch activities: games, books and crafts. John joined them eager to distract himself, as Veronica prepared lunch.
The drizzle started hitting the large window, laying wet tracks on the glass. John turned on all the lights. He welcomed the bright bursts that contrasted the grey landscape and sat down. Suddenly he heard the unmistakable sound of tires on gravel. He peered out the window and saw one, then two cars enter the wide driveway. The cars parted, peeling to opposite sides of the circular drive, and parked, forming the base of a heart. The boys exited their cars, pulling their coats tightly. They met and the tall one’s arm gently touched the other’s lower back, as they walked toward the house, their feet crunching.
“John…” Veronica called, her voice shaking. They all knew it would happen-some version of this-and now that it was here, it began to unfold in slow motion.
“I know.” John said, rising and walking out of the family room toward the entry foyer where she now stood. She extended her hand, brushing it down his arm as he grabbed a coat from a hook and put it on while opening the heavy wooden door.
And, at that moment, John knew that once he walked out that door, his life would never be the same. What lay ahead for them, he couldn’t say. How he’d deal with the avalanche of emotions, he didn’t know. How many memories would fade over time, he couldn’t imagine. Crossing the threshold to that uncertainty, into the dampness, he felt fullness rush to his chest. Emotions ricocheted within himself, the feelings kept at bay for so long. He met the boys in the middle of the driveway. Brian extended his long arm and pulled John in, his other arm now tight around Roger. Before Brian spoke, John’s tears started to flow.
“He’s gone, Deacy.” Brian’s wet eyes bore into John’s as he brought John and Roger close to him. They huddled together in the rain, their own tears raining down collectively.
“Do you, would you like to come in.” John asked quietly after a few moments, as they were standing in the rain, and his politeness overcame him.
Roger broke away. “ I can’t.” his voice cracked. “I keep hearing Phoebe telling me on the phone. It’s too much. I gotta go.” He slid his hand down Brian’s arm, letting it linger just a few seconds against Brian’s hand as they stared at each other. He broke away and turned to hug John. “See you at the funeral,’ he said as walked toward his car.
Brian rubbed John’s back. “Do you want to talk a bit?”
“I…I don’t know,” John said between tears. “I gotta keep it together. For the kids. for Ronnie.”
“We’ll have time. Here I wrote down the funeral information,” Brian took a neatly folded sheet of paper from his inner jacket pocket. “We’ll meet there and then go to lunch. Just the three of us.”
“Yeah. It’s just the three of us, I suppose. For now.” John said. He took the paper. Brian looked at him curiously, but remained silent as John hugged him, letting the tall man hold and soothe him.
The funeral came and went and the week passed in a blur. Roger and Brian did an interview and talked about Fred’s last days, the intrusive press, the stigma of AIDs and homosexuality, the Mercury Phoenix Trust and a future Memorial Concert. John couldn’t believe they could be so articulate and composed, holding it together. This was such a contrast to himself. He needed to use every ounce of energy to go through the motions, trying to hold the patchwork pieces of his life together as the threads loosened. But not very well.
Veronica tried to be patient but became increasingly annoyed with his detachment. “I know you are hurting. But, we are here. We are living. We need you. All of you. Even when you’re crying you’re beautiful too. The world is beating you down. I’m around for every mood.” (1) She said.
Nights were long and torturous. Veronica got used to sleeping with John flipping around beside her. Memories assaulted him, stirring up tears as he recounted days together that would never be recaptured – or repeated, lurching him into a state of sadness.
Finally, over a week later, exhaustion overcame him, and John fell into a fitful sleep. A breeze circulated through the room and skimmed John, causing him to shiver just as he let himself slide into unconsciousness. Was the window open? he wondered. His eyes flickered, and through them he saw shadows of branches dancing on the bedroom wall, lit by the moonlight. He was too tired to get up to investigate, so he pulled the blanket up around his neck and finally, finally, let his body slide into the rest it craved.
Suddenly he heard that familiar voice, the voice that soothed, cajoled, joked, laughed, created, emoted, sassed, swore, bickered, slayed, agitated, mediated, cackled. Sang. Loved.
“Deacy, Deacy, Darling….”
“Freddie??” John sat up in bed as he glanced toward the wall, seeing Veronica cuddled sleeping. He turned the other way, toward the window, and blinked as his mustached friend came into full view before him: healthy, muscled and fit, dressed in tight white pants with a red sash belt, his white wife beater with the black lightning bold and the red jacket with the similar design.
“Freddie….you look …. like when we were in Japan. We ALL wore white!!”
“Yes! What a wonderful set of shows we had there – over the years, really!” Freddie said wistfully.
Deacy felt a jolt of energy rush through him. He was uplifted more than he had been in weeks. The chill in the room had vanished. “You’re healthy, Freddie. Tell me, please! It was it all a nightmare - and I’ve woken up and you’re still here!!!??”
“No, dear, I’m still dead, sorry to say.” Freddie said in his direct way.
“How? what, why, are you here??” Deacy asked, confused.
“I know you’ve been out of sorts and well, I want to help you move on. You know I love you and it pains me to see you suffering.” Fred replied.
“Freddie, I can’t – I just…I don’t know what my life will be like now. And I don’t know if I can play again. Without you. Inside my heart is breaking (2)…” It felt good for John to express his pent-up feelings.
Freddie nodded. “I understand. But - You have to join the living-your beautiful wife and children. They need you and they want you. They love you so. You don’t have to decide about playing, but if you decide you don’t want to – that’s ok. But you better bloody well play at my Memorial concert!” he laughed slyly.
“I will, Fred…I’ll play for you. Of course. When you died, a light went out, the same light that had guided me, brightened me and calmed me. You saw the best there was in me. Lifted me up when I couldn’t reach. You stood by me and I stood tall. I had your love I had it all. I’m grateful for each day you gave me. Maybe I don’t know that much, but I know this much is true. I was blessed because I was loved by you. (3) I keep remembering our times together-the images just come to me. Over 20 years of images. they’re supposed to be soothing but they just hurt.”
“I know. They won’t always hurt, Dear. As they say, ‘don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater.’” He chuckled. “See them as celebrations of our lives together.”
“I just can’t believe you’re gone.” Deacy felt his eyes brimming with tears, as Freddie looked at him with love and empathy.
Fred nodded. “You all knew, but the finality of it. But our music lives-and me, in it. And there are all those videos. Miami has them. Who knows one day, maybe they’ll be available to the masses!” (If he only knew) Freddie laughed, stretching his arms in a grand, graceful gesture, as only he could do. “Hear my song. Still think of me the way you’ve come to think of me…Just close your pretty eyes and you can be with me. (4) I will be there with you on your journey. When you need me, I’ll wait here in the silence until you come and sit awhile with me.” (5)
Fred continued: “Deacy-You have to choose to live. And love. You have so much love to share-you always have. You have to redirect your love for me elsewhere-to your family. And create new love, perhaps,” Fred winked.
Deacy looked down with a shy smile.
Fred continued, “Well, I’m sure you and Veronica can work on that! And the band-well, Brian and Roger will have their ideas. You need to do what’s best for you. Whatever that is, It will be ok. You don’t have to figure that out now. Any of it. Just be present – in this present. I know it’s not the one you chose. Hell, I assure you it’s not what I chose either. But unlike me, you have a chance for new chapters-with people who love you.”
Deacy took a deep breath, feeling the words and presence of his friend permeate him and a calmness envelop him. You’re safe in my heart, and my heart will go on. (6)
Suddenly, Deacy felt chilly. He put his feet on the floor and leaned forward. “Freddie, stay awhile!! Let me grab my bass and we can jam a bit - Anything, whatever you like.”
“I can’t, Deacy. Now the wind has changed direction and I’ll have to leave.” (7)
“Please Fred,” Deacy said as he lurched to touch Freddie, who backed up toward the window and started to fade. But before he did, he said, “I love you, Deacy. Remember our chat. I’ll always be with you-keeping an eye on you, watching your lovely family, laughing at your jokes. Focus on the future and the love in your life. Don’t let your life pass you by. Weep not for the memories.” (8)
“Freddie, no, no, come back…please, just for a little while longer.” John said frantically and started to cry. Veronica rolled over to John, easing him down on the bed and then swinging her leg and arm onto him, running her fingers through his hair.
“It’s ok, Darling. Did you have a dream about Fred?”
“It wasn’t a dream, Ronnie. He was here. I was awake. We were talking. He looked so good. He….”
“What did he say?” She asked, not debating the interaction he claimed.
“He reminded me of the love I have-with you and the kids. That’s where I belong. I must think of a new life, and I mustn’t give in. (9) And, he said we should …create new love….” He smiled at her.
“Oh, John, what a lovely thought. Let’s pick that up tomorrow.” She giggled. “Now, you need to sleep. Lie back, baby, let me kiss you to sleep.” And she planted soft kisses on his neck and cheek and rested her head on his chest. As John drifted off, their video of The Show Must Go On came to him. The images, the music and lyrics lulled him to sleep. I guess I’m learning. I must be warmer now. I’ll soon be turning, round the corner now. Outside the dawn is breaking but inside in the dark, I’m aching to be free….Fairy tales of yesterday grow but never die, I can fly, my friends. (10)
In a few minutes, Veronica heard his steady breathing of sleep.
She closed her eyes and whispered, “Thank you, dear, sweet Freddie,” before she joined John in a welcoming, deep slumber.

Confusion for the one word prompt!
CW: Some inadvertent, non-hostile ableism
Ronnie’s got her pen in her mouth, chewing idly on the cap, sitting on a little bench in the ‘storytime’ section of the bookstore while she flips through a magazine full of recipes, discarding this one or that one as she makes her grocery lis for next week.
Tris isn’t the pickiest eater as long as the food isn’t “mixed up” - she cooks all the pieces separately, puts them on a plate, and then mixes them up for she and Paul afterward. It’s just that Paul has always had a weirdly specific taste in food, and it’s easy to narrow down what she can make and can’t if she wants her husband to eat, too.
Not that he wouldn’t happily make himself dinner separately, he’s a grown-ass man, but she still tries to make things that include him.
Nearby, seven-year-old Tris sits on the rough carpeting, humming to himself as he carefully lines up a series of books that, as far as she can tell, are about cats. She has no idea what he is using as a criteria for which books go where - clearly he’s not what number in the series they actually represent, she can see from here that they’re lined up all out of order - but he is deeply and seriously involved in his work, and his humming is soft-pitched, low and quiet.
“You good, Tris?” Ronnie asks, writing the word ‘apples’ down on her grocery list.
“Mmmn, mmmmn, mmmmn,” He says, and she decides to take that as a ‘yes’ and goes back to looking at the apple crumble recipe.
He’s been wearing that dinosaur shirt for four days, but he agreed this morning to put something else on his afternoon, if she would wash it so he can wear it clean tomorrow again. At least he agrees to clean underwear and pants, right? She has friends in her parents-group whose kids are Tristan’s age and still can’t dress themselves. Or maybe they just feel better without the weight and scratch of clothes on their skin.
Sometimes, she thinks she should really just buy seven sets of the same damn shirt, and let Tristan be happy.
That morning he had climbed into bed with she and Paul, snuggling up under her chin, and hummed and tapped and hummed and tapped in happiness until Ronnie had pulled him up and half-carried him out, just to let her poor husband get a few hours of sleep after work.
He’ll go to daytime work hours soon, he promises, and Ronnie can’t fucking wait until she can stop trying to keep her son silent while his father sleeps, because that’s one particular mountain she is fucking tired of climbing.
Rather than deal with it today, she took Tris to the bookstore, and Tristan is safely ensconced in a routine he loves - bookstore at 9 AM when they open the doors, Mommy gets her breakfast and coffee and Tris gets to pick a snack and the chocolate milk in the red box with a cow on the front, stay through storytime at 11:30, and then get a chicken nugget happy meal with ranch dressing for dipping on the way home.
Every bookstore day is the same. He wraps himself in the schedule like it’s a warm blanket, and Ronnie can’t say she doesn’t love mornings out with him when he’s not overwhelmed.
When he pulls down the books and lines them up, or stacks them, or just holds four or five while looking at them. Her favorite days are when he brings them to her and explains, in his halting, soft stammer, every single goddamn detail of what happens. She sets her expression to fascination and listens and thinks that there was a time, before gymnastics and therapy and IEPs and everything she’s fought for, where she worried that she would lose her son to his own mind, that he would stop coming out of it to find her.
“Mommy, that weird boy is making a funny noise,” A high-pitched voice says, and Ronnie glances up from her grocery list to see a harried woman with ash-blonde hair, carrying a pink backpack with a unicorn on it over one arm, a little girl with blonde hair on one side and a toddler with red hair on the other. The woman’s eyes meet Ronnie’s, briefly, and Ronnie sets her jaw, ready for the fight.
Tristan doesn’t seem to even hear them. If he does, he doesn’t care. He goes on smiling, picking between two books with a deep seriousness, before choosing one to set down. He never cares what anyone says who isn’t one of his gymnastics friends, who take him as he is. It’s Ronnie who always feels the need to defend his brain. Tris just goes on living.
“Mommy, why is that boy-”
“Ssshhhh, that’s very rude to talk about people,” The woman says, looking away from her then, and Ronnie’s fingers tighten around her pen, digging a black dot into the paper until she’s worried she’ll tear it.
She knows what comes next. People like that, kids like him, she’s heard it all, more of it from Tristan’s own teachers than she’d ever admit to him. Not that he would care, really.
There’s a moment where she opens her mouth, ready to say something, to build the wall around Tristan as she has always done, when the woman adds, “He’s just enjoying himself, honey. Some kids make sounds when they’re happy, just like when you sing at home and in the car, right? He’s just in a good mood. He’s just singing here, instead.”
Ronnie stares at her. She didn’t expect that. Her mouth stays open, the sharper words still harsh on her tongue, unspoken.
“Oh.” The girl thinks it over. She’s blonde, too, and looks just like the woman. She wears a white shirt with a unicorn made out of glitter on the front and pink leggings, plus pink shoes. Ronnie wonders, for just a second, what it might have been like to have a second child, a girl, to buy those kinds of things for.
Not that Tristan didn’t love glitter, too, to be honest. Honestly he probably wouldn’t mind pink, either, as long as it had a fucking velociraptor on it. No, wait, the big ones weren’t really velociraptors, Tris and Paul said that was some other one... Having your son and husband care so much about dinosaurs is sort of exhausting.
She should see if there were pink glitter dinosaur shirts... he might like those.
“Hey.” The girl marches over to Tristan, and he looks up after a second, as if broken out of his internal spell, looking at her. The last hum dies on his lips. The woman and Ronnie both redden, neither looking at the other. “Hey, kid.”
Tristan looks at her, blinking. Then he holds out the last book, in his hands. “Dark River,” He says, simply.
The girl looks down, looking at the painting of a cat on the cover, and then nods, solemnly. “I read that one,” She says, head tilted. “It’s good.”
Tristan nods, and lays the book down with all the others.
“Why are you doing that?” The girl asks, and Ronnie tenses again.
“I, I, I want to,” Tristan says without looking up.
“Huh.” The girl pauses, for a second, and then says, “I like to make my books like that, too.” Then she turns and walks away, and her mother takes the toddler by the hand and follows.
Ronnie hears the girl’s mother say, “Wait, that’s why you always make a mess with your books?”
Ronnie watches them go, staring, wondering what she just witnessed. If it means something, if it means nothing, if it means the woman will get her daughter evaluated, if if if if.
“Done,” Tristan says, breaking her out of her stupor. She watches him rearrange the books back into the order they were originally shelved in and place them carefully back. “Better, better now.”
Better than what? Her son is a mystery, and she safeguards him like a dragon guarding treasure it cannot understand but knows it would give its life for.
He looks at her, still comically solemn. “Snack?”
“Uh... yeah,” Ronnie says, voice slightly raspy. “Yeah, baby. Snacktime.”
“Story, storytime after?”
“Yep, we have...” Ronnie checks her phone. “Twenty minutes until storytime, so that’s perfect.”
Tristan smiles in her general direction and waits as Ronnie gathers her things back up. He doesn’t look back at the girl as he leaves the kids’ section and heads for the front, where the café is.
Ronnie wonders if the girl looks back at him.

When Brian May walked up to the BoRhap boys who were engaged in a discussion about how to better work off of one another during the big Live Aid scene, Ben in the meantime had been struggling to get one particular bit in ‘Radio Ga Ga’ right, so Bri, the ever-loving father figure, went out on a search for the real drummer. “Has anyone seen Rog? Ben’s struggling with getting the movements down.” The guys only shook their heads when Jon got a quizzical look on his face. “We haven’t seen Roger in like half an hour. In fact, we haven’t seen Y/N for twenty minutes either.” It was a bold suggestion, but by the eye roll that Brian did, they knew they hit the jackpot. And all the confirmation they needed came in the form of a thoroughly dishevelled Y/N. “Did you have fun?” Brian asked, and she winked at her old friend. “I think Roger enjoyed it a bit more, this time.” “Well, is he put together enough to go out and help Ben?” Brian asked, just as the blond actor came up to the guys, drumsticks tightly clutched between his fingers. “Come on, love,” Y/N said linking her arm through his elbow. “Rog is a bit preoccupied at the moment, so I’ll try and help as much as I can.” Ben’s eyebrows were high up on his forehead. “You know how to drum?” She hummed in response, and the crowd, seeing him and the woman walk out on stage went wild, chanting Y/N’s name like she was a Goddess there to fulfil all of their wishes. With a small wave, she sat down behind the drum set and adjusted the height of the little round bench. “I also know how to play the cello, violin, bass, guitar, piano and trumpet.”
Expertly Y/N twirled the drumstick and looked up at Ben. “Which part were you struggling with, honey?” But even before she could tap a snare, Roger stormed on stage, the crowd of extras going absolutely crazy. “No,” he pointed a finger at Y/N. “Not happening. You’re not stealing my spotlight.” A smirk tugged up her lips, seeing that purplish mark on his neck, which he so desperately had tried to cover up with a shawl, but it was still peeking through. “Your spotlight? Love, it’s Ben that’s gonna be on stage, not you.” Roger raised a grey eyebrow. “And who do you think he’s playing? Me! Ha!” “Fine,” Y/N stood up, leaving the drumsticks on the chair. “But who do you think is sleeping on the couch? You! Ha!” and with a wide smile plastered over her face, Y/N waved at the roaring crowd and disappeared behind the scenes. The grey drummer put his hands on his hips and looked up to the sky, letting out a deep sigh. “You alright?” Ben asked, clearly concerned if he’d somehow made a mistake and offended the legend. “Yeah,” Roger nodded, sitting down behind the drums. “Just can’t figure out how the hell did I fall in love with a woman who infuriates me so much.” But he said it with nothing but adoration in his voice.
***
“Ronnie, I’m telling you, it’s crazy freaky,” Y/N sat in one of the sofas in the trailer that was labeled 'THE BAND AND PAUL'. “I’m telling you! Look, I’ll just send you a picture and then you can see for yourself.” As Y/N pulled the phone away from her ear and went into the photos folder, Joe walked inside, fingers massaging his scalp as he had just been able to get the wig removed. The woman gave him a small smile, before doing a double take and practically shouting “Don’t move!” and putting her phone back to her ear. “Imma switch to Facetime.” She said to whoever was on the other line and Joe just stood there confused. Y/N turned the phone to him and the man almost choked on his spit seeing the Veronica Deacon on the other side, the woman’s eyes widening at the appearance of Joe. Silence took over the trailer before she quietly asked when he was born. “Nine- ninete- 1983. September 21, 1983,” Joe stuttered out. “Mam.” Veronica narrowed her eyes before yelling down the house. “John, you better come here and explain some things to me!” Joe couldn’t believe what was actually happening as John Deacon came in view, the man rubbing his eyes as if he had just been rudely awoken. “If this is Y/N again, trying to persuade you to go bar hopping, I’m not joining. Last time ended with you in a jail cell and her in Scotland.” But just as he was about to talk further about the crazy things the two women had done, he stopped, looking Joe dead in the eye. Veronica for a second thought he wasn’t breathing, but then John cleared his throat. “Hello,” he warmly smiled at Joe who was still frozen in the spot. “You must be mister Mazzello. Brian and Roger have had nothing but good things to say about you and the guys.” Joe just stared at the rock legend, mouth hanging open, cause holy fucking shit, he was talking to the Disco Deaky. Y/N smiled looking at the star-struck actor and glanced at Veronica who cleared her throat and crossed her arms. “Are you sure you didn’t have an affair with someone in late 1982 or early 1983?” Veronica turned her head to the side as John looked at her fondly but rolled his eyes. “I’m just saying, you look quite uncanny.” Joe laughed at that and he couldn’t help but feel relief flood his veins. They spent a few minutes talking about the music of Queen and how Y/N had been the one to push Veronica to ask Deaky out on a date. “She was so bloody petrified that he wouldn’t say yes, she came to my flat and we both got drunk. In the end, she ended up calling him and slurring out that she liked him and wanted to go out on a date.” “And she,” Veronica pointed at Y/N, “ended up calling Freddie, who was also coincidentally drunk that night, and convinced him that flying over to New York that night was a good idea.” Y/N shrugged, remembering how she had woken up next to a passed-out Freddie, in a hotel room. Her scream had been the thing that had stirred both of them up, massive hangovers already forming. “What the fuck did we do last night?” Y/N asked, rummaging through the first aid kit she had found underneath the sink in the bathroom for some painkillers. “Where are we?” Freddie had been very nonchalant about all of it, as he made two cups of black coffee. “Well, my love, by the view outside of the window, I’d say we're on some thirty-odd story of a hotel in the middle of New York.” Y/N had choked on the water she was drinking. “New York? How the fuck did we end up in New York?” Veronica smiled, reminiscing about how much fun it had been to tease the two as they caught the first plane home. “Almost gave Rog a heart attack. He thought she’d run off with someone.” “Honestly, he overreacted way too much,” Y/N replied, and it was like he had been waiting to be mentioned, Roger stepped in the trailer. “What are you two conspiring about? Y/N if you’ve put some bloody dumb ideas in his head, I swear you’ll be the one staying at Bri’s.” She rolled her eyes and scooted closer to Joe, to make room for Roger to sit down. “Deaky!” his blue eyes lit up like Christmas trees, seeing his old friend. “How are you?” “Good. We were just talking about when Y/N and Fred got so hammered they ended up in the city that never sleeps. And she was just saying how you overreacted.” “Overreacted?” Roger’s eyes shot up to his forehead. “One second you and Ronnie are simply drinking wine at your flat, the next I hear is Freddie’s hungover voice telling me to be at the airport in nine hours, since you two had fucked off to God knows where.” “We had gone out on two dates, Rog. You really took it as if I had cheated on you and married the pool boy.” “You were still my friend, even if we weren’t dating then. So, pardon me if I got worried.” Y/N rolled her eyes, but her heart swelled at the thought of Roger taking care of her like that. The five of them talked a bit more about what wild things they’d done in the past and a little bit about how Joe could become an even more convincing Deaky. Soon enough, he was called to set, and with a very solemn look, he said goodbye to Veronica and John, exiting the trailer. “Honestly, you two,” Deaky said through the phone pointing at his wife and Y/N, “are forbidden to drink without supervision.” Roger laughed and nodded along, but the glance Ronnie threw Y/N, whose smirk had widened tenfold, was enough to make his heart drop. “What did you two do?”
***
The cast and crew, Y/N, Roger, Brian and Anita as well, all decided to go to a local pub after a gruelling day of shooting and during that, her mischievous side came out once more. The drink off between her and her husband was provoked by Joe who was chatting away with Anita and she had mentioned how wild Y/N used to be. He’d laughed and told her about the conversation they’d shared with Veronica and Anita could only agree. “I mean,” the woman snickered, “they had been married for what, eight years at that point, but were still at one another throats. And so, after a particularly bad fight, she said that if Roger could out drink her, she’d forgive the man.” Joe laughed, leaning in. “And did she? Forgive him?” At that point, both Ben and Y/N had overheard their little conversation and she simply smiled as Anita answered. “Let’s just say the next day, that minx over there was filled to the brim with guilt, as Roger nursed a hangover for two days.” “What can I say,” Y/N said, smirking at Ben, “if there is one thing, I know how to do right, it is leave an impression. And obviously, prove a point.” And right on cue Roger Taylor, most famous drummer in the world of the most famous band I the world started weeping, as Freddie’s voice erupted over the heads of everyone singing ‘Love Of My Life. “I love my wife, Bri. I love her, so much. Even though there are times I think she might kill me, I love her.” Y/N sighed, rolling her eyes and she went over to her husband. “Alright, Rockstar, that’s enough for you,” she said and chugged his half-finished pint. “Hey!” now an obviously pissed off Roger looked up at her. “I was drinking that- wow.” He leaned over to Brian, and the curly haired man already knew what was about to happen. “D’ya think she’ll let me shag her? She’s real pretty. I like pretty women. Like Y/N. Y/N is the prettiest. Hey love, what’s your name?” She almost choked on her laugh. “I’m Y/N.” “No fucking way!” Roger exclaimed, “that’s my wife’s name.” “I know. Cause I am your wife.” For a second, Roger paused and then through a big, big grin he exclaimed, “Cool! Can we go home and have sex?” This was where Y/N saw her opportunity. “We can.” The smile that split Roger’s face apart was amazing, and he smugly looked at Bri. “After all these years I still have it.” “If,” Y/N interrupted his gloating, “you can outdrink me.” Brian was instantly up on his feet and pointing at her. “Y/N, no! We’re not going through this again. Just take your idiot of a husband and go home. Please,” the last word was a desperate plea, but she just ignored the only rationally thinking person in the room. “Bri, ma man,” Roger said standing up and motioning for Y/N to go to the bar. “I thought we were friends. And here you are, barring me from having a good night with that fox.” She smirked over her shoulder ordering twenty shots of vodka, ten for each. When Brian saw it, everyone could read the disappointment on his face. “When they get to shot number five, you two,” he pointed at Anita and Joe, “take Y/N and me and Rami will get Rog.” “Why five?” Gwil asked, amusement evident on his features as he watched the married couple sit down by a free table in the bar, the shots in two perfect rows before them. “Cause last time they got to number six, they got thrown out of a pub for indecent behaviour.” And let’s just say, everyone in the bar looked with awe in their eyes as the two of them downed shot after shot, completely disregarding the fact they had been together for years, only so they could shag.
***
“Rog, what did we do?” Y/N groaned, pressing her face in her husband’s shoulder, who pulled her closer, the bright morning sun making her eyes hurt. “I think we had a drinking competition," he replied. "Again. Though things are very blurry after Anita said something about a badger and you two running around naked in Bri’s garden.” Y/N hummed and was about to roll out of the bed when a stack of pictures caught her gaze. Slowly, she took them, and her mouth hung open when she saw a bare Roger and her own stripped body in them. “I guess we recreated a moment from what- 1976?” Roger’s eyes were still closed, but his mind remembered the exact thing that was in the photos; how a young him had persuaded her to take her top and pants, off so he could snap some pictures of the girl. “If these ever get out, Roger Meddows Taylor,” Y/N had said through a laugh, covering her face with her hands, but that meant leaving her chest exposed. “The next pictures people will be seeing in the tabloids will be of my mugshot.” Roger had laughed, pressing his legs tighter around Y/N’s hips, so she would stop squirming and he could focus the camera on her body. “I promise. These are for my personal collection when I get lonely without you on tour.” Though that had been his intention, Roger was quite the forgetful person. And let’s just say he’d heard an earful two days later as Y/N berated him for leaving the polaroids on the middle of a table on the bus. “If history repeats itself, I’m divorcing you, Taylor,” she said, slipping the photos in a drawer and closing her eyes ready to go back to sleep. “If history repeats itself, then we should prepare for a pregnancy.” Instantly Y/N’s eyes were open, cause, of course, that little photo shoot had led to one of the steamiest nights of her life and of course, that’s when she’d fallen pregnant with their first child. “Well, then this time, you’ll be the one pushing a watermelon out of your vagina.” With that said, the hungover pair smiled and fell asleep, dreams of the past pulling them down, securely wrapped in one another’s embrace. “Think they’ll allow to put that moment in the movie?” Roger suddenly asked, and Y/N slapped him. “Shut it, Taylor.” “Love you too, Taylor.”

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Recap: Cast Four – 22/23 & 26 May (Part One)
On Wednesday and Thursday I saw Cast Four for the first time. I came out of those performances unsure how I felt about the cast and the changes to the show. There was a lot that I didn’t like, and I didn’t feel excited about the year ahead at all. Looking back now, I was exhausted when I was watching those shows. I didn’t take much in, and when I was trying to write my recap I knew I was missing a lot. I felt neither passionate about nor proud of what I was writing.
So on Sunday I got another ticket and tried again. I ended up sitting further back than I have in a year and a half, but also in the second most central seat I’ve had in a year. And it helped.
I’ve always found that sitting close to the stage you focus on the action close to the front a lot more. It’s difficult to get the depth of what’s going on. When you sit slightly further back it’s far easier to take in the choreography, and what I was unhappy with on Wednesday and Thursday was largely the choreographic changes.
My Sunday seat gave me a view like I was looking at a model box of the show — it was the sort of view the show was designed to be seen from. All the shapes came out, the lighting, the details of the movement, plus it was an absolute gift of a show. I fell in love with portrayals and changes I hadn’t been certain of, and fell even more deeply in love with the things I’d already enjoyed.
So, without further ado, here are some thoughts about the new portrayals we’ve got (including our first cover of the year — the wonderful Gordon Millar as Karl etc.), followed by a recap of Sunday’s show, combined with thoughts from Wednesday and Thursday.
Because this got exceptionally long (my second longest recap ever), I’ve split it in half. Part One is below, and Part Two can be found here.
*
David Mara — Station Master
If I had to pick anyone to step into Martin’s shoes, it would have been David. He was great in every role I saw him cover last year, and he was great in this role too. I like the strange whistle he does at the start of the scene — it reminds me of someone else who used to do proper signalling style whistles — and it’s fun to watch him looking with confusion at the boys as they chat in their corner (although I am concerned by how much he must overhear). I can’t wait to see this scene develop over the year.
Lucy Mangan — Myrtle
I think Lucy’s going to be a really excellent Myrtle (and I can’t wait to see her cover Delphi too). There were some great over the top little touches to her portrayal. When she did ‘the weeping after he was taken’, she cried once then stopped, cried again then stopped, then one of the boys started trying to talk so she held a hand up to stop him while she cried a third time. It’s ridiculous little details like that, which make me most excited to see her again.
Blythe Duff — Professor McGonagall
They honestly couldn’t have found a better person to take over from Sandy. Blythe is the first McGonagall not to have the Maggie Smith look, but that actually made me love her more. It was her warmth and charm and sparkle that made her feel like McGonagall, and I would probably fight to the death for her already.
Her Trolley Witch was also gorgeous. I’ve seen many Trolley Witch debuts over the years, and even ones I ultimately come to love have felt disappointing first time round, but not this one. She captured the right feeling of ancient, authoritative power so perfectly. I cannot wait to see her again.
Gordon Millar as Karl
Our first cover of the year, and what a good one. On Wednesday and Thursday he went straight onto my ‘must watch’ list, so a big part of me deciding to go for a ticket on Sunday was the desire to see him.
His Karl is actually quite sweet (which I think stems from Gordon being a lovely, funny human being), but in the St Oswald’s scene Gordon’s character is an absolute — to put it bluntly — dick. He’s a bully, a nasty piece of work, and it really helps the scene (more on that later). I also loved Gordon’s Krum a lot. This one has great movement (like seemingly everyone in the cast), and I cannot wait to see more of him.
Luke Sumner and Emma-May Uden as Yann and Polly
I feel bad lumping these two together but in the show they really did come as a pair. They were perfect fake, popular, nasty individuals. I’ve never hated Yann and Polly more, and I mean that in the best possible way. They were just the sort of people who would bully Albus and Scorpius, and I loved it.
Ronnie Lee as Craig
My heart belongs to Ronnie. There was just something so likeable about him. Sometimes Craig feels like a little ray of sunshine, and that’s just how it should be. Also, I appreciate the boldness of someone who’ll full on lie on the death table, with both feet in the air, so it looks like they’ve been blasted off their feet and are falling to the ground in slow motion. That was an excellent death.
Another thing I noticed about Ronnie was his dance talent. There was a Mackley-esque fierceness to his Death Eater dance, and he was just generally brilliant at the movement. This whole cast is so noticeably strong on the movement — possibly the strongest so far.
Also, while I’m talking about Ronnie I have to mention the other two members of the most adorable trio of Slytherin boys ever — there’s Gordon, as mentioned above, and Duncan Shelton. They had some chants going on in the first task, some excitable stampy feet, and just lots of general sweetness. I can’t wait to get to know these three better. They’re going to be brilliant.
Kathryn Meisle as Umbridge
One of our very first Hogwarts foreign exchange students. I thought she did a really good job, and I particularly thought her Petunia was good. Also, she did a little skip when she was going off after telling Scorpius he was ruining Voldemort, which was just the perfect touch of sweet, girlish, disgusting Umbridge.
Madeleine Walker as Delphi
I had two first impressions of Madeleine as Delphi. First, I don’t know how many of you have seen Puffs, but in terms of attitude and eyeliner she looked just like Megan — like she’s trying to be edgy but is actually just a nerd. My other first impression, related to that, was that Delphi was exactly the sort of person that Albus and Scorpius would want to be friends with.
She’s awkward and nerdy and has the same vibe as they do. It’s easy to see how well she’s playing them, especially in Part One. But at the same time, once she’s revealed her true self she doesn’t change much, and there’s something very creepy about that. This person who seems so harmless and nice has all this evil lurking literally right under the surface, and she holds very little of herself back.
It should also be said that at some point this year, Madeleine is going to deliver the wildest Torture Scene we’ve ever had. Even on Sunday she absolutely blew me away, and it’s only going to get better. I’m so excited.
Michelle Gayle as Hermione
I liked Michelle‘s Hermione. She had a bit of the know-it-all vibe, and her Hermione felt quite young. There was this obvious relation to book Hermione that worked well. I particularly liked her scene in Harry’s office right at the start of the play. She felt like Harry’s friend from the books. I also think that she’s got a lot of great thoughts about the character, and I can’t wait to see her engage with them throughout her performance and develop them over the year.
She made a great attempt to play Delphi Polyjuiced, which I really appreciated. That was a big highlight from her. It’s surprising how rare it is to see the adults actually try to replicate what the kids are doing (aside from Jamie B, who’s a master of the art).
Rayxia Ojo as Rose
Rayxia’s back, and it’s wonderful. Her Rose has always seemed so grown up and mature, and next to Dominic’s Albus she feels particularly so, just because she looks so tall beside him. It’s weird because in all the ensemble scenes she’s one of the shortest people around. Anyway, it’s great to have her back in the show, she works wonderfully with Michelle (there’s a similarity of character there that’s really nice), and I can’t wait to see more from her.
Ryan Mackay as James
I’ve seen Ryan as James a few times before, and always enjoyed him, but he seems to have come into his own with this cast. He particularly owned the Lily and James death scene, and it was uncanny how much he and Dom looked like brothers when they were standing near each in the opening scene. I also adored his Cedric, particularly on Sunday, and he has a very fine background moment in St Oswald’s that I truly think helps make the scene palatable. I’m so pleased he gets an expanded role with this cast and seems to be flourishing with it.
Dominic Short as Albus
Sometimes when I watch someone play a character in this show for the first time I feel an instant comfort in their portrayal, and that was how I felt with Dom. It was a mixed blessing because I felt so comfortable and confident in him that I didn’t pay him as much attention as I should have done (there was lot to take in), but I really loved him. Thankfully, on Sunday I get to pay a lot closer attention to him, and he absolutely blew me away. Even from near the back of the stalls his expressiveness drew me in.
His Albus has a certain happiness to him. He’s less broken than the last couple have been. There’s genuine jubilation in his portrayal at certain moments, like when he casts some of the spells successfully and when they figure out how to get a message to Harry.
There are many moments when he reminded me vividly of Sam’s Albus (which will never be a problem), and I loved the flashes of anger and emotion. On first viewing I felt that he was quite a young Albus, especially after Joe whose Albus was quite mature and surprisingly thoughtful. However, on second viewing he felt a lot more self-aware, and there was some real tenderness there. Some absolutely beautiful moments.
One of my favourite things about him was that in Part One he feels wrapped up in his own problems, and you can clearly see the spiral from an enthusiastic boy looking forward to going to Hogwarts to an angry, miserable, withdrawn young man by fourth year. The transition scene was perfectly played in that regard.
I really was very impressed by him. I think he’s the Albus they’ve been trying to cast since the show opened. He has Sam’s fierce anger and prickliness, with Theo’s emotion, Joe’s humour, and an ability to adapt and change to what’s going on around him. We’re only at the start and already he’s sparking my imagination and making me desperate to see more. This is going to be the most excellent year.
*
So, with those first impressions out of the way, let’s get into some changes and great character moments.
Opening and transition scene (Act One, Scenes One to Four)
The weird thing about a first show, especially one in which the person playing the Sorting Hat is staying the same, is that for the first few seconds nothing feels different. It could be any other show. But then the first member of the ensemble walks out and you realise that everything has changed.
There’s a new bit of choreography in the first scene that I was pre-warned of but of course completely forgot about until it happened, so it took me by surprise. The Sorting Hat (who now wears glasses as part of his costume – fun facts) stands in the middle of the stage and manipulates the people around him. There’s a whole group that he diverts with a flash of light, a man he turns round with a gesture, and he makes the woman at the front of the stage walk round her suitcase.
As someone who loves the Sorting Hat, his role in the play, and what it means, the whole interaction felt a bit random. It’s obviously a flashy opening to the show, with a bit of magic, but I’ve never seen the Sorting Hat as a manipulator. I’ve realised recently that he’s a protector and guardian of the boys (particularly of Scorpius) in the same way that Hagrid is a protector of Harry, and he’s also the bringer of magic to the show, but this doesn’t seem to add anything to that. If anything, there needed to be more of the manipulation – there were only three interactions, so it didn’t actually make that much of an impact on someone seeing it of the first time. To me it ought to be go big or go home.
On the second viewing I realised that technically bringing Harry onto Platform 9 3/4 could count as one of the manipulations (it’s got the same sound effect associated with it), and I also realised that he never seems to touch a group that has Delphi in. So maybe there is some meaning in there if you dig a bit.
The first big line change is Lily’s line in the opening scene, which is no longer ‘Are they here? Maybe they didn’t come’. It’s not her wondering whether the Granger-Weasleys are late, and lamenting that they’re always late. Thankfully this isn’t a line from the epilogue, so the change doesn’t really have that much impact. It’s another of the random changes that we now see throughout the show – ones that don’t really make much of a difference, and it’s unclear why they were made.
In this opening scene, seeing Dom and Ryan side by side showed how perfect their casting as brothers is. They look so similar, particularly in face shape.
Watching this cast for a second time from a distance let me appreciate a really cool James moment properly for the first time. When Albus is being sorted, James and Scorpius are on complete opposite sides of the stage, perfectly symmetrical, and they’re the only two people in the crowd picked out by a spotlight, which illuminates both their faces. It’s like Albus’s Sorting is visibly tearing him between his family and his new best friend, and it lets you see both their reactions perfectly — James’s bewilderment and Scorpius’s disbelieving excitement.
Going back to the opening scene, we got to see the first glimpse of Dom’s Albus before anything happens to him. There’s a youthful joy there. He laughs at Ron’s jokes and seems to be relaxed around his family. He’s genuinely excited to be going to Hogwarts. Until he gets there…
There are directions throughout the transition scene that with each passing year, Albus gets more withdrawn and miserable, and that’s just how Dom played it. You could see the process of Albus becoming increasingly demoralised with life at Hogwarts, and it was wonderful. Right from the start, Dom had such ownership over Albus, putting his stamp on the role, and even just the first scene made me excited to see him in Part Two – it was an excellent start.
In the first show everything was technically perfect, but in the show on Sunday, the fire didn’t work on the Incendio trick. However, Dom’s cover for it was perfect, and added something to the character. He just sighed very heavily and sort of threw his hands in the hair as he said he didn’t expect it to work anyway. I never realised before how that line is so open to all possibilities.
The next few obvious changes came in the transition scene: Scorpius now offers Rose a rose in London (is it a trick rose? It looked like it had a collapsible stem to me), also, when the boys’ potion explodes, the kids around Albus and Scorpius flop forwards instead of bending backwards. And then, of course, you get the wand dance.
Dominic was so bold in the wand dance, which I really enjoyed. Nothing was held back and everything was extended and gone for. There was actually lots I loved about the new choreography in this scene too (I think it was one of the biggest successes of all the changed elements). There are lots of circles and lines, and my favourite moment was when all the other kids circled round Albus, leaning in and looming over him. I also liked that he got a moment to fit in and help the others – just a brief flash of success, that must be all the more painful for being so fleeting.
The new wand dance begins with a big flashy trick – the current shot of fire now connects up to a sort of flaming rope on the ceiling, so that brief spark flies all the way from the bottom to the top of the stage. It ends with the usual red smoke, and one of the other kids taunting Albus: “Even his wand wants to be in Gryffindor”.
To briefly backtrack, I need to give a quick shoutout to Dom’s “I stayed for your sweets” from Sunday. He did a little dad dance as he said it, and I can only describe it as like he was milking a cow. A little up and down motion with his hands, fists clenched. I know it sounds weird (this show has made me write some very bizarre descriptive phrases) but he made it work, even if he did look like a ridiculous nerd doing it.
Blanket Scene (Act One, Scenes Six and Seven)
I really liked the introduction to Delphi in the scene before the Blanket Scene. Her conversation with Albus is really sweet, and she curtised to him before she went off to talk to Amos (the first of two curtsies in the show — the second was to Scorpius when he called her The Augurey).
One of her finest moments was when she shook hands with Harry and looked at the scars on his hand. You could feel her reading ‘I must not tell lies’ and mentally calling him out for lying right in front of her. After all, he does know about the Time-Turner, she knows he does, and she also knows that he’s lying to Amos. It was such a powerful, silent moment of judgement. A gorgeous little detail.
In the Blanket Scene itself, I adored how Dom’s Albus interacted with his siblings. Because I was so far away for the Sunday show I couldn’t actually see or hear Albus laughing at James’s antics, but I could see his shoulders bouncing from the laughter. And then when Lily comes in looking for her Potions book, Albus holds his hands up to say it’s not his fault. It’s only when Harry comes into the room that he finally sits down, perched on the edge of the bed, and from that moment he never really relaxed or seemed comfortable. His space had been invaded, and he tensed up almost immediately.
Once they got into the scene itself, we found an angry Albus, who wasn’t afraid to raise his voice and fight back. At no point did he seem even close to accepting the blanket, and there was an expression on his face that said that he hated his dad’s reasoning for giving it to him. He knew the gift was all about Harry, and he detested it right from the word go.
One of the things I noticed about Dom’s Albus was how he always shrank back, never holding his ground. He ended up occupying parts of the stage that people don’t normally go to – only by a few centimetres sometimes, but it was still noticeable. In this scene he was pushed well back beyond the bed, and again in the final scene he hid among the graves, keeping a physical distance from Harry. In this particular scene it worked really well, the shrinking away, closing himself off, as Harry got more heated. I also loved that he said the final line of the scene the original way round: ‘No luck or love for me then’.
Dom’s is one of the angriest Blanket Scenes we’ve had for a while. He really explodes, and it’s wonderful. He fully unfolds the blanket when he describes it as mouldy, and gives it a look of disgust that Harry is so upset by.
St Oswald’s (Act One, Scene Thirteen)
I have now seen the new St Oswald’s three times (once on Broadway, twice in London), and I still can’t say that I’m convinced by it.
At first I hated it. With a passion. It starts off alright, with a biscuit palace appearing onstage, then quickly descends into something quite distasteful. The stage direction in the script for this scene is about magic being done for fun. It’s supposed to be joyful, people who can do magic because they love it rather than having to do it for work or study. It should be colourful and vibrant, as well as chaotic.
What we get is certainly chaotic, but as the employees of St Oswald’s play various tricks on the residents, there’s an uncomfortable feeling to the scene. There’s not a nice spirit there. Previously the scene has been hilarious and delightful. Now it’s just mean, and borders on elder abuse, which just isn’t necessary. The scene could have been remade without going anywhere near that territory, and I do think it’s a serious misstep. Not to mention the fact that some of the tricks are so juvenile and fake (one lady gets stuck inside a sofa, with a pair of legs that are so clearly not her own sticking up in the air).
On Sunday, my third viewing of it, however, I did start to see sort of what they were going for, and there were a couple of redeeming features. When you sit close to the front it’s difficult to see the choreography going on towards the back of the stage, so sitting further back allowed me to see Ryan’s role in the scene, and I loved what he brought to it.
His staff member has a very brief role in proceedings, but I think it’s essential. While Gordon was bullying the residents (which he did with incredible viciousness), Ryan was looking utterly horrified. There was an expression on his face that just said ‘this is so far from okay, I’m not doing this’, and that was the point when he exited the scene.
It was really good to see someone in character acknowledging how bad what was going on was, and showed a self-awareness that I hadn’t realised was there before. There was also the fact that at the end of the scene, when the nasty staff member gets his comeuppance (he ends up holding a teacup that’s spilling over with fire), the residents of St Oswald’s all started dancing and enjoying themselves. Those two things combined really helped me with it, and I think with further viewings I might come around to accepting it.
It is still frustrating to have to work so hard on it though. I’ve always loved this show for its artistry and joyful magic, and this scene feels like an unnecessary step away from that. What was wrong with the original, very funny, perfectly good spirited version of the scene?
Around the map (Act One, Scene Seventeen)
The scene where the adults talk around the map, trying to work out where Albus and Scorpius might be, is always a bit of a dark horse of a scene. It doesn’t feel that important, but there’s always so much fascinating character work going on there. And so it was in this show.
I caught Harry and Ginny having a silent conversation, in which Harry told Ginny not to mention what he said to Albus. I’m pretty sure that was because he didn’t want Draco to know, and if he had to tell Hermione he’d rather tell her in person. And yet of course Ginny brings up an opportunity for him to tell everyone. It made it feel almost as if she was betraying him, which did actually work.
There’s a lot of conflict during the show between Harry and Ginny. It’s hidden because their relationship is so strong and they do spend so much time interacting. They obviously love one another. But Ginny does find Harry’s actions difficult to swallow sometimes. She calls him out on them. And that tiny interaction in this scene really laid the groundwork for that.
Ginny’s priority throughout the play is Albus. Harry is a grown man who can look after himself, and while she loves him, she knows that Albus is by far the more vulnerable party here, and she’s going to fight every step of the way to find him and help him. In this scene, getting Harry to admit what he’s done is the best way of achieving that, so she makes it happen. She doesn’t actively tell everyone what Harry’s role in Albus’s disappearance was, but she puts him in a position that enables him to tell the truth.
To know that that came from a silent conversation between the two of them was so fascinating, and it added an extra dimension to the journey they take through the rest of the show. We could not be more lucky. Jamie and Susie are such fantastic actors, and the thought they bring to their characters is game changing.
Opening of Act Two (Act Two, Scene One)
Here were a couple of changes that I loved straight away. Before in the dream sequence, young Harry has been haunted by a single, ghostly hand, and that’s still the case. Except in the new version, by the end there are three hands reaching for him.
This might be a bit random, but I really liked the fact that there were three hands, not four. The odd number threw things off and added to the creepiness of it. There was something even more unnatural about the dream. And actually what I noticed throughout the show is that in the moments that are meant to be unnatural and wrong, tiny bits of choreography have been tweaked to make that vibe feel so tangible.
The other great thing about this new version of the dream is that Harry finally does look like he’s wet himself. It’s a detail that should have been added years ago, but I’m glad it’s here now. Also, Harry’s clothes are now genuinely too big for him. They look like adult’s clothes, just the way they should. Those little things make all the difference.
The adults visit McGonagall’s Office (Act Two, Scene Three)
There were so many reasons to love Blythe as McGonagall, but one of my favourites came in this scene. As they were leaving the office to go and find the boys, she saw Ron with the napkin tucked into his top, and reached across to take it off him with a tut. It was so brusque and no nonsense, plus it hinted at her familiarity with him and the others. Although she holds power over them (even Hermione) by virtue of being one of the most wise and respected figures in the Wizarding World, this group are also colleagues in a sense — fellow soldiers who have fought through a war together — and the respect goes both ways. Respect and fondness. Almost a familial bond. It was such a sweet little touch.
Expelliarmus Scene (Act Two, Scene Four)
This is one of the big trick scenes that can go wrong, but I’m pleased to report that it didn’t in either show. There was an air of confidence from both Madeleine and Dom, and the trick worked really smoothly. Being able to pull that one off with such panache must take guts, especially first time out, and they did a great job. In fact they were both very good with the magic throughout.
Another excellent Delphi moment came at the end of this scene (only in the first show — sadly it wasn’t repeated on Sunday). After she kissed Albus on the cheek, Scorpius did his normal flailing routine in front of her, and she was having none of it. She rolled her eyes and, from several metres away, did a fake little ‘mwah mwah’ in the air, roughly directed to either side of his face. It was sarcastic, impatient, and designed to let him know that he needed to get out of her way fast, which he did. It was a great way of handling his ridiculousness.
Bane and the search for the boys (Act Two, Scene Five)
One of the little details I noticed during the opening of this scene, when everyone was searching the forest, was that Harry wasn’t quite alone when he started calling for Albus and Scorpius. On Wednesday I assumed this was just because the ensemble were a little bit slow getting off the stage, but it was the same on Sunday too, and I was really pleased. I liked it as a sign of Harry’s desperation. Even amongst all these other people helping him, he starts shouting for his son. No waiting for a private moment. No embarrassment. Just his guilt and his need to get his son back safely.
First Task (Act Two, Scene Seven)
If anyone was afraid that the First Task might be a little quiet without the Mackley, Josh, and James Phoon show, you needn’t be. There was plenty of chaos going on, enough to make it difficult to watch the main action.
This was the scene that made me fall in love with the trio of Slytherin boys – Ronnie, Gordon, and Duncan. They were simply wonderful, and absolutely adorable. They had a little chant that I couldn’t quite catch (I think it might have been Cedric related), and then there was some excitable chanting of Krum’s name when he was announced. Also, Ronnie kept stamping his feet to emphasise his applause, and it looked like the three of them were having a whale of a time.
On Sunday, when Gordon was in Hufflepuff, Ronnie went on a Josh-style excursion to visit him, which was very sweet. When he got back to Slytherin there was a lot of hat stealing and Krum chanting and just general chaos.
Hospital Wing (Act Two, Scenes Eight and Nine)
Albus had a little nightmare while Harry was talking to Dumbledore. He didn’t thrash around as much as Theo used to, it was quite contained, but he was definitely bothered by something going on in his head. There’s something nice about an Albus waking up with a shout of his dad’s name. Even after everything, he still subconsciously loves and needs his dad.
Another little detail from this scene was that this Albus actually ate some of the chocolate. It’s always fun to note who does and doesn’t (Joe very much did not).
One of my favourite Dominic moments came in the scene after this one, when Albus tells Scorpius that he can’t speak to him anymore. He was sharp with Scorpius, but it seemed to be driven by his desire to at least try and do what was necessary to make peace with his dad. However, he was certainly not happy about it. After he’d told Scorpius they’d be better off without each other, he turned to his dad to say ‘okay?’ It was spiteful, spat out, as if saying ‘are you happy now?’ As much as he wants his dad’s affection, he hates the things he has to do to try and get it.
Staircase Ballet (Act Two, Scene Twelve)
This was the first scene where I really noticed the difference in height between Jonathan and Dominic. I obviously knew that Jonathan is the tallest Scorpius we’ve ever had and Dominic the shortest Albus, but there’s something about seeing it in person that makes it all so much more real.
The two boys came together at the top of the stairs (the point when they’re standing side by side, and Albus is trying to avoid Scorpius’s eyes) and there they were. Tall and tiny.
The other thing I really loved about this staircase ballet came from something I’ve noticed before. While Scorpius moves through Hogwarts with ease, from staircase to staircase without a thought, Albus hits dead ends and has to wind his way through the school. It’s like the school accepts Scorpius, but is rejecting Albus. And in both these shows, when Albus walked out from the wings to climb the staircase and meet Scorpius in the middle, he was faced with the wrong end of the staircase. Instead of having steps leading up, there was an unattainable ledge high above him. It was just another sign of the school shutting him out. Another barrier. Sometimes he must feel that he can’t possibly get anywhere – even the building is against him, let alone the classes, his magic, and his fellow students.
Library Scene (Act Two, Scene Sixteen)
I don’t remember much from this scene on Wednesday, but Sunday was vivid, so let’s talk about that. In fact, let’s just talk about Dominic.
In every scene, but in this one particularly, his body language alone carried right to the back of the theatre. While Scorpius was yelling at Albus, most of the time he was on the verge of stepping forward. He wanted to interrupt, to defend himself, to just say something, maybe even apologise. He was constantly on tiptoes, half stepping forward, half rooted to the spot, shoulders hunched, Time-Turner cradled in his hand.
Then Scorpius started talking about his mum, and that was when Albus finally stopped trying to interject. He stepped back, bowing his head. He seemed to shrink, and all the fight went out of him until there was just despair.
When I first saw Dom’s Albus I thought he might be selfish, but on Sunday I realised just how self-aware he is. Especially in the library scene he was so conscious of everything he’d done and said, and what Scorpius was directing at him. It was heartbreaking to see him crumble like that. And when he got onto his apology there was such softness to it, but also power, this drive to let Scorpius know the truth. It was such a beautiful apology, and I’m so pleased that by Sunday Dom had already found Albus’s softer side, because (probably down to nerves) that was the one thing I was lacking on Wednesday and Thursday.
The other big thing to talk about in this scene has to be the hug. I don’t even know if it can be described as a hug, because there wasn’t much of the boys holding onto each other. While Dom did attempt to do some hugging, Jonathan just draped himself over Dom’s shoulders. He was hanging off him, arms dangling down his back. Only very briefly did Scorpius actually pat Albus’s back, before they parted. It was one of the most awkward disasters of a hug I’ve ever seen. I loved it.
Act Two ending
A couple of little things to finish off Part One:
McGonagall absolutely embraced ‘I solemnly swear that I am up to no good’. She did the most epic wand swish, and was really going for it. Rebellious McGonagall might be my absolute favourite thing to come from the show.
When the boys are under the lake, they now have wild static hair. I noticed it first because I spotted how wild Dom’s hair was. Then I noticed that Scorpius’s wig was sticking up. It took me a second to twig that it was because they were meant to be underwater. At first I thought it was a nice touch, but then I realised that, because the hair doesn’t move like they’re underwater, it kind of just looks like they’ve been attacked with balloons backstage. Also, I feel really sorry for Dom who has to brush that mess out before he can go and have lunch. A little puff of wind or something to make the hair move might make the whole thing more effective. It’s difficult to tell. But for now I guess I’ll just be entertained by how wild they look.
Umbridge did a very creepy skip as she went off after telling Scorpius about Voldemort Day. It was chillingly perfect; just the right amount of gross girlishness.
The Dementor on stage left is wild. Both on Wednesday and Sunday it kept pogoing up and down like mad. I kind of love it. It’s very excitable.

babe.... bAbe..... u can’t give them the Good Dad Rog shit and the. not follow up with the hot space angst.................... it’s what the people Deserve
i copied this verbatim from our chats so like, if its choppy that’s why. also, this is like….part 1 of what is really 85 pages of hc’s all about hot space so like…more to come??? sorry for the angst
it begins with brian having cheated on chrissie
and dom, who is pregnant with baby #5, takes Offense to it
basically dom gets chrissie her divorce and sets her up with crystal, who has always had a Thing for her
and while in the middle of handling this shit because dom is kickass, dom comes to the decision that Brian Is Wrong and Needs To Be Taught A Lesson
so she convinces ronnie to her side and is like, we do not interact with brian for as long as it takes for him to realize he fucked up
so basically hot space is such shit because dom and ronnie are like for however long you support brian we will not have sex with either of you
like you want to be there for him? fine but your hands gonna be there for you instead of us
john immediately is like good luck brian hope you figure your shit out
kinda backfires actually
roger and john are like uhhhhh
well this is a shame certainly bc we love u
but also
ig we…. gotta fuck each other
Oh No
they’re so smug about it until they receive an envelope from home
its pictures of both women together in various positions
john gives in first but roger is annoyingly stubborn when he wants to be
And that’s why John don and Ronnie all get to go to Bali
they come back
And roger has moved out
and he’s like. uh. can i? am i allowed to see the kids
and they’re like wait what?
and they’re like OF COURSE WHY DID YOU MOVE OUT???
and he’s like. you uh. u said? that if i stuck with brian that we were like. done. and like brian’s a fuckhead and chrissie deserved none of what he did but uhhhhh he’s also like. my best friend and he’s going thru some shit even if it’s self inflicted u know and um. you guys have each other i guess so like i knew you’d be okay but i just.
i’d really like to be able to see the kids
and fucking miami ends up at the door
with all the NDA’s and legal shit they sorted out
like ok so, here’s how separation is going to work
and they’re like wait no no no we just–we were just upset???
but roger is like but you threatened to end our relationship and withhold sex unless i give in to what you guys want and i’m sorry but i…i can’t do that
and miami is literally like you. you all. left. and you took the kids with you. you left a NOTE
what the fuck did u think he was going to think?
and they’re like WE TOLD HIM WHERE WE WERE
WE THOUGHT HE’D COME
miami is like
“bali” is not an invitation
like no you thought you could manipulate him into bending to your way
that doesn’t COUNT
miami is Team Roger
which is how they know They Fucked Up
and roger just kneels down before their little army of kids and gives them giant hugs and is like no matter what i will always love you guys
and then miami like takes him outside and is like i will take you all for everything he’s owed
and roger goes and lives with freddie
brian ofc has NO IDEA any of this is even fucking happening
maybe thats when roger starts The Cross
and its all angsty heartbroken shit and Johns like HE’S QUIT THE BAND
and the three of them are like shit
we do not work together without roger
miami ends up being like the weird go between who picks up the kids for their weekends with roger
and they beg miami for information
and miami is like you do not deserve to know how he is
and crystal is like look, i get that you’re supporting my girlfriend but now you’ve hurt my best friend and my boss like…do you understand how your actions have fucked me???
and roger isn’t really? doing well? but he also know he can’t afford to fall apart because if he goes to shit there’s an excuse for him to not be able to see the kids???? and like he doesn’t wanna think they’d do that??? but he only has legal rights to like. three of them.
and the thought of never getting to see all of his kids keeps him up at night and he spends a lot of time drinking
like a lot a lot
and he writes all the kids letters from where he’s holed up working on the cross and he makes it sound like hes! doing! so! well! on! his! own!
the kids get little gifts delivered? like all the time
bc he’s always thinking of them and he has the money to just.. send them trinkets
ugh ok so they’re separated for a while then like. just under a year maybe?
rog moves out of fred’s after two months
when it becomes apparent that uh
this isn’t
he gets his own little shitty house
this might be for Real
and he tries to get one with rooms for each of the kids
and when they come to visit he’s like look here’s something for you and bunkbeds for the twins that aren’t twins and a pool and maybe we can get a dog?
but the kids just want to pile into bed with him
but one of them like is crying? and john’s like whats wrong? and she’s lke do you think papa is lonely in his big house who’s going to cuddle him at night he’s all alone
and johns like……….. fuck
like not only have we broken the best relationship we’ve ever been in but we have broken our children too
the kids asking roger in the big puppy pile in his bed and he’s like well i cuddle you all SO MUCH while your here that it it keeps me warm even when you go home
that why i hug you all as soon as i see you!!!! i need a top up of your love!!!! gotta keep me toastie warm :)
and freddie is a fucking liar he’s like roger is doing BETTER THAN EVER he is so FUCKING HAPPY NOW and hes like ROGER IS THIRTY FLIRTY AND THRIVING AND YOU GUYS ARE MISSING OUT ON HOW HOT HE LOOKS NOW
like POST BREAK UP HE’S TONED AND FIT AND HE LOOKS AWESOME
flash to roger sitting on the floor of the kitchen in his boxers without a shirt on just sobbing into a pint of rocky road ice cream
roger: vaguely emaciated, surviving on cigarettes and gin and tonics
he hasn’t shaved but the man can’t grow a beard so its jsut ugly patches of hair
but!!! like the other three really only see him when the kids are around and??? yeah??? he looks good!
because no one can KNOW because as far as he’s concerned they didn’t want him
like he’s dressed nicely. he’s lost a bit of weight but well he’s hit his thirties so maybe not the Worst thing even if they did Love His Pudge
and he would never ever ever scare the kids by showing them how he looks
freddie’s like oh yeah roger’s GREAT
SO BRILLIANT
and you can’t tell he doesn’t sleep and has massive bags under his eyes because that is the dawn of the prescription sunglasses
TRIED TO HAVE HIM AROUND FOR SCRABBLE THE OTHER DAY BUT HES JUST GO GO GO THESE DAYS
freddies like you should hear the songs he’s written like that stuff is GOD
(the songs are just him weeping over a guitar track)
cut to the other day: freddie and roger playing scrabble for thirteen hours in between crying jags
the next day: chess, but the pieces are shot glasses
freddie is like in bed next to jim like i dunno how much more alcohol we can drink i’m running out of ways to make him drunk enough to forget
so jim makes him garden with him bc it gets him out of the house so he even gets a TAN but they just drink SO MUCH WHISKEY
then ronnie and dom and john are like look at him he’s golden tan he looks gorgeous
but the kids are like DAD HAS A STRAWBERRY PATCH!!!! AND WE PLANTED SUNFLOWERS TOGETHER
and jim is like he’s only evenly tanned because when he passed out in the garden i rolled him over so his back would get tan too
and yeah they’re like??????????? he looks so good????
and miami lowkey thinks hes helping but he is NOTbecause every time he sees him he’s like okay we can get you think much from your combined fortunes and the beach house and i can make it so you have custody of your legal kidsroger: they’re ALL MY KIDS MIAMI
but rogers mainly like i’m not gonna separate any of the kids that’s????? no. like. they belong as a family
even if i’m not……. part of that family….. any more…….
roger is like look i just want to be able to see them. i won’t take them form their parents and miami is like roger..you’re their parent too
and roger is like no i’m just like, their uncle now?
like i’m not in that family they made i clear that i am not allowed
A N Y W A Y S
ronnie is the one who sorta caves first
she’s lke look we started this and i kinda pushed for us to end it so i’m gonna fix it
john wont bc of the band dynamics, dom is top aware that it could splinter the group back into two couples, ronnie is really the only one who can
yeah and ronnie sorta. just shows up at his house in the middle of the night
and like (luckily for him) he’s just got in from a thing for the cross
so he Doesn’t look fucking awful
but he’s also fucking exhausted so he opens the door and is like FUCK are the kids okay!!! shit!!!! dom??? john???
and ronnie’s like everyone’s fine i just. i missed you?
and roger’s like. he’s so tired he’s just like ronnie….. i can’t do this right now. you can’t. you can’t just show up here
that’s not fair.
and ronnie’s like…. well. she wasn’t sure how she was really expecting it to go because. yeah. they’re literally not been within about 50m from one another in fucking months
but she was. hoping at least for an “i miss you too”
but roger’s like. it’s really late, i’m… gonna go to bed. i really, really cannot do this right now. i’ll see the kids on friday.
and so ronnie goes home and bawls her eyes out to john and dom who are…. also kinda shook?
like. they were NOT expecting roger to turn her away like that, that’s… yeah. but like roger has been mostly by himself this whole time. like they’ve had one another but he’s. just been sorta trying to learn to keep his head above water by himself again and. it was actually a dick move showing up there unannounced. like, they basically left him with little to no warning they can’t just try and walk back in the door y’know?????
and anyway on friday miami comes to pick up the kids and ronnie is like uhhh i’m coming with
and miami is like uh. disrespectfully speaking? you fucking are not
and she’s like oh :) ur not taking my kids then
which. is just. another bad move? tbh
miami is like. right. fine. can i use ur phone to call the other father of ur children to tell him that one of their mothers won’t let him see them
and ronnie is like go right a fuckin head
and dom and john are sorta there like ronnie ronnie wtf are u doing ronnie
but ronnie’s like nah i’m calling his (miami’s) bluff
and dom is like no, uh, roger can have the kids
but. miami calls
and ronnie is like not mine he can’t its all or nothing
he’s stood there in their parlour
and like obviously they can only hear his side of the conversation
dead eyeing ronnie like i fucking hold this band together out of sheer will
i can outlast you no matter what
Miami: Hi Rog, Miami. Yeah, yeah, the kids are fine. I’m at your old place right now, actually. No, yeah. No. Well, actually, Rog. Veronica says you can’t have the kids this week. No, she didn’t say anything to me about it before. No, no. I’m sorry, Rog. I know, I’m so sorry. She hasn’t said anything about next week yet. Yeah. Yeah. It’s alright, it’ll be alright. We’ll work something out. I’ll come right around, okay? Alright. Okay. I’ll let them know. Yeah, I promise. Just like you said. Won’t change a word. See you in a bit.
and ronnie is like what did he want you to say to us?!!!!
and miami just straight up blanks her and dom and john
and walks into the living room where the kids are, all ready to go
and is like hey rugrats!
(which is totes rogers nickname for them)
and they’re all like!!!! uncle miami!!!!! are we going to see papa now???
Veronica is like ho don’t you fucking say it
and he’s like i’m really sorry guys (and ronnie goes to interrupt but he stops her) but daddy has the flu
and the kids are like!!!! oh no!!!!
and he’s like so you can’t go see him this week :( he’s really really upset about it, and he HOPES he’ll be better next week because he misses all his little nuggets so much
and the eldest is like???? but!!!! our hugs keep daddy warm!!! if he’s sick he needs to be warm he can’t be cold!!! who’s going to recharge his cuddles???
and miami is like well he said if you all hug each other reaaaaally right he can feel it! so long as you all keep giving each other lots of hugs he’ll keep tight and cosy
and he goes to leave and is like to the three of them like…. i cannot believe that you are actually doing this. i didn’t know you could be so cruel
and off he trots
and ronnie is like. fuck
fuck
FUCK
and the other three would be like ronnie what…what the fuck was that???
they end up having…. a huge fight over it
like giant
like “hi chrissie can you take the kids for a couple of days” fight
and chrissie is like uh…. i can take a few? but crystal is. away
work emergency
and johns like????? queens on a break????????????
and dom’s like???? ROGER, JOHN. ROGER IS THE EMERGENCY
so they’re like trying to find babysitters so they can fight it out but also maybe go to roger???
because the work emergency is code for roger is trying to destroy himself via alcohol poisoning
like miami knows the second he hung up that roger as going to just drown himself in whisky
so he used a payphone to call freddie and crystal
and is like i don’t care what you have to do or how you do it but you need to be at roger’s yesterday
but brian isn’t looking after their fucking kids
freddie isn’t home
and jim has heard what they did
and hes like that was fucking cruel
crystal isn’t home
miami is gone
fucking RATTY doesn’t pick up
phoebe straight up was like freddie told me if i watched hte kids he’d kill me
he was like i am not even allowed to be speaking with you thank you and goodnight
so they call mary and they’re like please mary
and mary is like as far as i’m concerned if you’re that worried about roger watching his own fucking children i do not know why you would call me as the better option
like fuck you you think roger can’t be with his kids and now you want to DUMP THEM ON ME??? “and anyway, i’m just stopping at home for the booze i have here. we’ve all been banned from the liquor stores with in a ten mile radius of…… a place.”
eventually they manage to scrounge enough family members on john and ronnie’s respective sides
but it. genuinely takes like over a day
everyone is either straight up just not answering or, if they are at home, not willing to step in
[meanwhile miami is on the fucking warpath he is like you wanna play chicken? i’ll roast you for dinner VERONICA he’s writing up a custody agreement so tight it will tie them up in court for years like he sits down at roger’s kitchen table while roger is profusely vomiting up all the alcohol he had and then some and he’s like they’re gonna fucking pay
he’s getting the kids and the houses and over half the money and the royalties and here is a list of available bass players because HE GETS THE BAND TOO]
but yeah john ronnie and dom end up having a giant, fuck off, end all fight
and dom is like. u realise we just took his fucking kids away right
and johns like for fuck sake chrissie is FINE do you really think she wanted me to tank my career and for all of us to blow up our entire family because of her????
but the problem is. it’s BIGGER than the chrissie thing now
johns like she knew what she was getting into and she knew he was a cheater when they were fuckign dating
but really it was like, six different fights that all boiled over in the name of Chrissie’s Honor and then
the biggest thing is that like,
when they were in bali
they did fully think roger would come
and but then he didnt and the spent 3 weeks getting angrier and angrier at the situation and him and brian and it spiraled into this black ugly mess of shit
and they didn’t realize how vital roger was to keeping them together like he’s the fun dad so the kids have been acting out more becasue he’s not there to get them to blow off steam
(plus like, the kids just lost their dad??? like he doesn’t live there anymore he’s at a different house and that is big)
and he’s the peace keeper (surprising despite his tempter but everyone else like stews he’s the only one who’s like lets talk it out)
and he makes them all coffee in the morning so they’re all vaguely caffeine deprived
and now ronnie has fucked it all TWICE first by showing up and then by TAKING HIS KIDS and dom was like when we had baby#2 and it was clearly rogers we promised him we SWORE that he would never ever ever take them away from him
like we said that as long as he was their papa that was IT he was their father and we would never ever take that from him
and ronnie’s like i didn’t MEAN IT he should KNOW I WOULD NEVER MEAN THAT
and johns like. ok. but uh. how would he know
bc
i mean. we sorta
did take his kids away from him
when we went to bali
when we went to bali for a month
and again
and then
now
five days of the week
and now?
i mean
we have been… slowly taking the kids away from him
three weeks ago we made him give them back a day early so that we could do to the beach
bc we could only do it…. as a family…. on the weekend
and then two of the little ones (one of which is his) was sick and we kept them home
because. him seeing his kids is inconvenient to us
and we had them on the actual day of his birthday
which you know is his favorite day of the year because the kids make him breakfast in bed and wake him up singing happy birthday
so. us just pulling the plug isn’t… really all that unrealistic is it?
and dom and ronnie sort of get defensive and backing each other up
dom is like no!! we have NOT!!
and ronnie like how dare you
and johns like. ok. but see this is the problem
this was the problem in bali too
like its us vs. him
we all get caught up in defending ourselves
when he’s NOT HERE TO DEFEND HIMSELF
that everything we do seems right
and he should… just be grateful?
to have us?
to see the kids?
and that we have proven that if he doesn’t agree with us he doesn’t haveus?
like originally it was just sex yeah
but then it was clear that you wouldnt budge
and neither would he and why should he have brian has been there for him longer than he’s even known me
like brian is terrible for cheating but he’s roger’s brother and we literally made him choose his family and when he wouldn’t
we chose for him
and, as we’ve established, chrissie is FINE
and a grown woman
and roger knew that better than any of us because crystal was filling him in on EVERYTHING
she probably didn’t fucking need the two of you, and then me, ripping apart our family, the band, and the various social circles we run in
or even WANT us to do that
and dom’s like……. i really miss him
i’ve been trying really hard not to
bc it’s easier to be angry
and i didn’t want it to seem like i love him more than you guys
because i know it can be hard sometimes like not falling into those couple-y behaviours
and i didn’t want to do that
but i really really miss him
but like, roger is my first
he is my first real love and i love you both so much but he’s my roger
and. it’s been really hard watching [youngest] hit milestones and rogers not here to see them
(and they tried to be nice and send videos and pictures but its not the same!!
so they just stopped telling him hoping that the kid would do it there and roger would think it was the first time
but that just made roger feel like they didn’t care enough about him
to be like oh hey your kid’s walking sucks that you had to learn form the older kid insead of the other parents)
and dom’s like. and it’s made worse because. he wouldn’t have let this happen if it was one of us
and john is like. uh
and ronnie’s like fuck. no. ur right. he wouldn’t have
dom’s like. right back at the beginning he was always saying that he’d make sure we were all involved in the kids lives no matter what that this wouldn’t happen he wouldn’t let it
and we did it to him
and ronnie is like. how the fuck do we fix this
bc shit like that. like their youngest hitting milestones???? like that feels like something they stole from him bc they can’t give that back
for like the first time john actually cries
and is like what have we done
and yeah. the fight just sorta ends with all three of them in tears and just. sort of silent
because maybe that was the biggest issue
because. what the fuck
because chrissie was pregnant and maybe dom was pregnant and they were like imagine this was us
and we got cheated on
and so when the whole Bali Thing happens the kid is like maybe 6 months?
so roger genuinely misses over half of this kids life
and kidlet just. doesn’t have the same bond with him???
because there’s so little you can be there for when you get every weekend
and roger knows
but the other three don’t because they haven’t seen him with the kids?
but the kid just cries the whole weekend and wants his “daddy”
kidlet isn’t really comfy around roger and neither, really, is their second youngest who is withdrawing
and roger is just like???? these are my KIDS
and the second youngest is roger’s
and i’m a STRANGER to them
and he tries so hard! but the other problem is like, we have so many kids
and i am one person
like he is stretched so thin
so he can only do so much like if hte baby is crying he has to take care of the baby sorry oldest ones i can’t go play outside with you
and the three of them just realize, like, what have we done???
cut to roger’s house he’s just lying on the floor not even crying just laying there his bedroom is ruined because he hung up with miami and just trashed it
and is laying on his floor like i want to die here
john calls while the Roger Stomach Pumping Emergency Squad are on day three of their duties
and crystal picks up which is. it’s not the BEST he could have hoped for, which would have been freddie, but it’s the second best bc crystal still nominally works for him
(crystal is like i’m gonna fucking quit like i will take the cross to the NEXT LEVEL even if i have to KILL JOHN TO DO IT)
and johns like ok this is. i’m just calling to say that i’m going to come around tomorrow? i’ll be there are 12. i’m not asking for permission, but i’m just calling to give you a heads up. to give roger a heads up
and so. they uh. sober roger up. do their best to make him somewhat presentable? (does not work. he refuses to shave or shower or get changed out of his Depression Pajamas. he swills some mouthwash, they call it a win)
(depression pajamas are john’s pants and the joke shirt ronnie and dom bought him for his birthday years ago thats like save a drum bang a drummer)
and then. they go upstairs, just leaving miami downstairs except he’s Not Allowed To Talk
he is there, strictly, as roger’s legal representation
miami just holds all the papers for legal divorce and separation the papers that are going to FUCK THEM UP if roger says so
and john shows up and he’s like. oh. um. this isn’t. this isn’t really a legal talk?????? and miami is like yes well y’all do have a history of Technical Kidnapping so
can’t be too careful 🙃
and roger just. doesn’t give a shit
he’s like miami can you shut the fuck up
like what the fuck do you think johns going to do that’s worse than break up with me and refuse to let me see my kids?
what, have you all gangbanged my mum too? just for a giggle?
and john is like. uh. no. winnie is. un-gangbanged. as far as i know.
and rog is like well there you go, everything appears to be Just As Shit as it was yesterday and no worse
and johns like look. i just. ronnie honestly didn’t mean that you couldn’t see the kids, not at all. she just. she just wanted to see you and the kids were… leverage? sort of? which sounds awful
and roger is like. yeah. that sounds pretty fucking awful, actually
and he’s like where’s my alcohol and miami is like as your legal representative and your medical emergency contact i must advise you not to drink anymore as i do not believe your liver will survive
(miami [visibly jots down john calling the children leverage])
but yeah rogers like. well. here i fucking am.
and johns like. this is all. it’s all fucked up. we love you? we never stopped loving you? this has all spiralled way out of control. the girls were just mad about chrissie and
and roger is like?? do u think i give a FUCK about chrissie???? none of this was EVER about chrissie on my side. this was about the three of you deciding that our relationship with acceptable fucking collateral for you to throw about to win arguments and get me to do what you wanted
[miami in the corner scribbling it all down]
that’s now how relationships fucking work, john. and i never thought you’d take my children away from me for it.
and johns like. i know. i’m sorry, we’re sorry. it honestly just grew out of control. when we were in bali we thought you would come and then it would have been fine, but you didn’t and we got angry and
and rogers like?!! i didn’t do what u wanted so you ran away with my children for a month
i couldn’t have come even if i WANTED to
“gone to bali” is not a fucking address, john
(and the thing is when they wrote that? it was tongue in cheek. it was a “come find us”. but, well. that didn’t work out as intended, did it?)
like they thought of course roger would like, call miami to find them or hell ratty or something like they all have the same credit cards they could figure it out…right?
and johns like. i’m sorry. can you. would you be…. interested? in talking to all three of us? we love you, and we miss you. we want to try and save this
and roger is like i dont know
i don’t know if it can be saved
and well. that’s enough to get a foot in the door because. his kids. roger would grin and bear his way thru 16 and a half years of painful awkwardness on his part of it means he gets to be with his kids as they grow
but he’s not saying yes
he’s saying he’ll talk to all three of them together
but miami will be there
and miami is like 💅
and so they set a date for the next monday
and this time roger is wearing like. a fucking suit, he’s all scrubbed up
and they’re like???????? what the fuck
(john totally went home and told the other three how terrible he looked)
but this time like. it’s…. it’s make or fucking break like if they walk out of this and he can’t see it being salvaged then… that’s it
he’ll be giving them the (kindest) separation and custody agreement’s that miami has drawn up
miami has like three all drawn up and ready depending on how it goes
one is niceish one is harsher and the last is scourged earth
nice: they get half his assets, he gets friday evening-sunday afternoon and ¾ of all school holidays
harsh: ¼ assets (minus property and future royalty income from existing tracks), friday afternoon school pick up- sunday evening, and all school holidays apart from three days beginning and end, weekends, and potentially visitation right son Public Holidays (such as christmas day)
scourged earth: ½ present cash assets (nothing else), friday afternoon pick up - Tuesday morning drop off, all school holidays minus weekends (excepting public holidays. so if xmas day falls on a sunday? too fucking bad)
miami is like i will wipe the board with you if he asks and i will not hesitate
and he WILL be going to court to attempt to win rights to have ALL of the children involved in those custody agreements (miami thinks they have a case given how many interviews they’ve given over the years referencing how the children view each other as brother and sister)
plus there’s like squatter’s/commonlaw rights
yeah basically miami is. uh ready to destroy
like roger is the common law parent because he has lived with these kids in that house for 7 years
roger’s one request was just can i have enough to buy a house big enough for all the kids to come visit and can i just see them? like even if its once a month i just want to see them
miami is like i gotchu fam you’re my favorite tell the others
BUT YES SO roger is like i’m really just here to see if there’s anything to salvage.
and like
dom immediately bursts into tears
she hasnt seen him in person since he LEFT
and because??? how could there not be??????????
dom is willing to give ANYTHING to fix it
and ronnie is like. horrified. she keeps going to reach across the table to hold his hand before catching herself
and she starts. she apologised for what happened the other day, for crossing that line
and rogers like… it’s been coming for a while now
because he always knew one day the kids would stop coming
like either they wouldn’t let him see them
or the kids wouldn’t want to come see the guy who was once their dad but now just has his own home
like the two youngest already don’t want him
so it makes sense
yeah.
and dom’s like… do you still love us?
because i still love you
and rogers like. i. i could never stop loving any of you???? but i also cant ever forget the past year and the things that have happened either
That’s what makes it hurt the most is like I still love you?? I will always love you you’re the mothers of my children and John you’re their father like you’re raising my kids
and johns like well. love is a start, yes?
and roger’s like. yes. but i love my kids more, and. i spent the last year hoping we were just… going to work it out. that this was going to stop, but it hasn’t. it’s got worse. and i suppose it’s a good thing that you did what you did last week because instead of the kids being slowly taken away from me and me having to accept it over time, it happened all at once and i can’t take that. i Won’t take that again. and so now i know that if this isn’t going to work out that i am Going to have a relationship with my kids, if i have to fight you all in the courts for it
and ronnie’s like we’re not? we’re not going to fight you
and miami that sneaky bastard pulls out the SCORCHED EARTH custody agreement and is like so you’ll sign this?
and dom’s like what the fuck is it?????? and he’s like custody agreement. in the event of your separation from roger, dominique, and/or his departure from the home you share with john and veronica he would be entitled, by contract, to have the children (ALL OF THEM, those children being those who were born between 1974 and 1983) from friday school pick up to tuesday morning school drop off, and the entirety of school holidays apart from weekends.
and johns like fuck. that’s. a lot of time
and roger is like? i haven’t had all of the children together in over a month
and ronnie is like fuck. you haven’t, have you? there’s been….
and miami picks up another piece of paper and starts listing off reasons
Because he’s been picking them up and dropping them off and every single time one of them isn’t there he writes it down
dentist appointment, flu, stomach bug, school trip, trip to the beach “as a family”
They watch a roger visibly flinches at the “as a family” comment
and dom just signs it. plucks it right out of johns hand who is trying to read it (or the first page) and flips to her page and signs
and johns like fuck!! dom!!!
and she’s like. roger wouldn’t ask us to sign anything that would be detrimental to the kids OR to us
we used to fucking know that, john
She’s like Roger is their father first and foremost and he has the right to as much time as he wants from them. If they miss us I will PERSONALLY but them their own phone line to call us but he gets as much time as he wants with them
and like. john and ronnie aren’t going to sign, not without their lawyer there to check it out, but. that sign from dom? is enough to get roger to agree to try
to agree that maybe there’s something to salvage there
Even if it’s just with dom
Because she was like I have faith in this man and I do not plan on ever losing him again so I’ll sign anything because it’ll never come down to it
Yeah because. well. he can live with that if it means he gets his kids
he can live with knowing that he’s not wholly Wanted in this relationship
if he’s… wanted a little bit and he gets to watch his kids grow up every day
it’s 16 and a half years
that’s doable
He will do what he needs to for his kids
he loves those rugrats so fucking much
he stays at home SO MUCH for the next like. year. bc he is BUILDING that relationship with the youngest two
Like the rest of the break? Is because roger will not leave the house
He is like nope not working I’m with the nuggets
And Freddie is like bring them to the studio just come
Like it’s just him with the kiddos
Writing and trying to get his babies to love him again
And he’s like I’m never leaving you ever again
That first tour? Is ROUGH
like it is hard for roger to leave and he almost is like I can’t do it I can’t leave them what if they forget me again??
Which just adds to the angst because they did that to him
they made him doubt that his kids really love him
so then like, fast forward six-eight months???
oh my god even when they get back together? and get comfy with one another to start having sex again (which takes A WHILE) roger is suddenly. really adamant about using condoms
ugh he’d be sneaky about the condom thing at first too. like. he distracts them? clever fingers, clever mouth, encouraging them to help each otherlike it takes. a Distressing amount of time before finally dom is like I Want You To Fuck Meand that’s when That Whole Thing goes down
she’s like c'mon like how we used to
and roger is like uhhhhh i can’t do that
because you might get uh, pregnant
and the other three can’t think of anything better like yes this will reunite us
an roger can’t think of anything worse because the thought of losing another baby?? he wouldn’t, uh, he wouldn’t survive that
and they’re like????? look if u slept with someone else like. ok that…. hurts. but. get tested and if ur clean it’s fine
and rogers like. no
that’s not the problem
dom has straight up a breakdown about it when she realises what the issue is
because roger is GOOD with kids
roger LOVES babies
but he’s like i do not want to have babies with you because i cannot guarantee that you won’t take the baby from me again
and roger is just sitting here uncomfortable
while dom weeps and john and ronnie are like what the uck is going on
but. he’s not. he’s not comfortable? this doesn’t feel like a family he’s
building for keeps anymore
not really
it feels like something that can, might, will be taken away
he’s like look we can call it what we want but i get it i’m here for sex
and that’s great!! i love sex!! but i’m not going ot risk it
and the baby starts crying and roger sorta. automatically goes to get up before being like. oh. uh. it’s probably better if one of you goes. she. she’s not comfortable around me, she won’t settle if i go in
its not fair to the kids (because that’s who he’s really messed up over)
like they were so upset and it’s not fair to have them have to like, be separated form their homes and from their parents
roger is just so natural around the kids?
like u honestly wouldn’t even notice that he’d been gone
he slips right back in
he’s a bit distant for a few days, learning the new routines, new schedules, new favourites, new dislikes
but once he’s got it? he’s back in there
but just. flinching away from the casual touches that pass between the four of them
so later dom fucks john and forgets a condom and has a pregnancy scare
and roger is like. weirdly……. fine
and dom is like??????? what the hell ur ok with this??? if i am pregnant?
and roger is like…… i haven’t decided yet
and dom’s like wtf do u mean? and he’s like. it would be a dick move of me to just leave ig. so perhaps we could separate but i’d stay living here in a separate room from the three of you?
and ronnie is like? those are the only two options for you
we’ve been back together for like eight months
and rogers like? and we were separated for over a year
i’m still not sure if this is real
AND THEN
freddie calls john one night like. a month or so after the condom revelation (which they’ve all been. sorta sadly going along with? like it ruins the mood a little bit each time bc it’s a reminder that something’s a little bit broken here), and is like. look. i. i really shouldn’t be telling you this? but i think he’ll end up regretting it because i. god knows WHY but i have faith that you guys are all gonna pull thru this. but rog’s munich trip next week for the cross? yeah he’s booked in for a vasectomy.like he wouldn’t say anything because he doesn’t want them to make it a Big Deal
and they’re SO UPSET but they’re like we can’t tell him not to because…if he wants to, he wants to
So when he comes back from munich
they think he had a vasectomy
John is like how does one check for that?? Does his penis look different???
Does his sperm taste different?? How would we know???
but one night he just goes to ronnie Just bends her right over and is like let’s do this and it’s the hottest sex they’ve had
like they have INSANELY HOT SEX and they’re all. laying there. happy and sated. rog is curled up in the middle super asleep and the three of them are just all wide awake staring at the ceiling like huh. what feels weird
and then they realize and they’re like he didn’t use a condom so that means…..
:(
and then they just PANIC
Like ROGER
ROGER YOUR CONDOM
and he’s like oh my godddd shut up i’ve gotta be up for swimming lessons in like. five hours oh my god
and ronnie is like maybe he did maybe he didn’t but like YES YOUR SWIMMERS ARE THE ISSUE RIGHT NOW
THEY MIGHT BE SWIMMING
IN ME
ROGER
and roger is like is…that a problem???
and like they’re panicked bc!!!! he REALLY didn’t want any more kids!!!! they don’t wanna fuck with that they’re finally in a good place again!!!!!
and roger is like, sorry, guess i should have talked to you guys about having another kid???
but ye he’s. secure again. and their youngest is like. older now. he misses babies. and also miami still got all the old paperwork
and they’re like wait….so you didn’t get the vasectomy???
and roger is like lol no
so like, oops, ronnie, you uh, might be uh…pregnant
and they all just sort of fall on top of him because while they’re still not perfect
it’s a start
they have like, five more kids afterwards
also
veronica, the trooper, still having fucking babies into the mid 90s
god bless her
