Let’s get one thing straight. What’s shown for Germany is a meal, not an actual hot dog. Remember the Filipino dog? That’s basically considered a meal over there. And Germany’s isn’t too far off in structure- basically a sausage, carbs on the side and some kind of sauce, plus some extra stuff. I would argue Peru’s is closer to the hot dog structure than those are, because it’s regularly served as street food.
Semantics aside, in Germany, actual hot dogs, per the street food definition, are either 1) served in a hard roll with mustard and sauerkraut or 2) served in currywurst. I made the chart version, bought the hard roll version at a German sausage place and also made currywurst.
All I had to do for the chart version was boil one of the Meica jarred sausages I’ve been using for the European hot dogs so far, then add sauerkraut, mustard and potato salad:
Tumblr media
This was fine, but it would've been better with a more substantial sausage like bratwurst instead of the wiener.
The German sausage place near me, Alpine Sausage in Denver, has both sausages and sandwiches for sale using German kaiser rolls. I asked for a German wiener with mustard and got this:
Tumblr media
The sausage was excellent quality, definitely tasted way better than the jarred hot dogs I’ve been using so far. I didn’t care for the bread but maybe that’s because it got wrapped up in paper and had to travel home.
I used the recipe from here for currywurst sauce. It’s one I’ve been using for quite a while, since I love getting currywurst at Christmas markets, and it’s really good. I also got some weisswurst and fries:
Tumblr media
This was excellent, interesting with the weisswurst. Maybe I should try searing the sausage next time after I finish boiling it.

Day 4 of my once a year family visit. The final day.
Today was a more relaxing day. A lot less driving and going all over the place. Went to a park/museum place about the history of this area. My nephew loved it since he got to ride on a train.
A thing about my 4 year old nephew. He has a dog plushie named Max and in fact, every dog is Max to him. In one of the buildings was a statue of a dog up on the roof and he was wondering the whole time how Max got up there. He's adorable and I'll miss him.
My niece to who for sure won't even remember me since she's still a baby. Maybe I'll see them in 2 years or maybe I won't, just depends on how things go.
Food wasn't as fancy today. It's the last day and were tired and just want what's nearby and cheap, or well cheaper then the other nights.
We went to a brewery where I got full 100% authentic German currywurst.
Tumblr media
Exactly as the Germans intended. My German girlfriend @fayeastria didn't call that an abomination at all nope. Just some authentic foreign cuisine.
It was still really good though despite it's eldritch like qualities for my fellow German friends.
Then we got ice cream which I won't post because my dumbass left the name of the place in there and it would basically out where I live. Was good to and holy shit I was full by now.
Went to a proper park which had a community garden that was neat. Not much was there and I'm not sure how many people manage it, but I'm glad it exist.
Then we went to one my favorite hole in the wall family owned Mexican places. Cheap, good, unhealthy, way to fucking much food, and always worth going. I ate way to goddamn much, but vacations are about indulging yourself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I went to their hotel, played with my nephew some and said my goodbyes. It's not horrible or anything seeing them, but I'm still half pretending around them. idk how or when I'll cross that bridge of me being trans to them or me wanting to move to Europe. It's bittersweet and a lot of uncertainty with what my future holds vs their expectations of where I'm going.
Was still nice to not have to worry about anything else for most of a week and not think about my job or money or lifes many stresses.

It had been a long day at work, and Lily was looking forward to sitting down to some good Currywurst and some trash tv to take her mind off things. She had just sat on her couch when her phone rang with an old military march. She felt her stomach clench as she reached for it. She didn't need to see the caller ID to know who it was.
"Hello, Dr. Liliane Beilschmidt speaking," she said, even though they both knew he knew who she was. But he expected to be answered properly each time.
"Hello, Liliane, this is Herr Gilbert Beilschmidt. I am calling in regards to our upcoming hunting trip."
"Oh, yes, sir. Is everything alright with it?"
"Well, it would seem your brother isn't interested in coming." He said, "your brother," as if it were her fault somehow.
She frowned. Alex hadn't come on a hunting trip in years. That shouldn't be news to either of them. After a few seconds, it clicked. "Oh, you mean Ludwig, sir?"
"Yes, girl. That's what I said. Apparently, he would rather stay in Canada with the Canadian, than spend time with his family."
Liliane literally bit her lip to avoid saying anything rash. She couldn't exactly blame Ludwig for his choice, even if it was now causing her grief.
"I see," she said, calculating each word, "and he didn't offer any kind of alternative?"
"No, of course not."
"I see." She took a bite of a fry as quietly as she could. She could feel his seething from the other end. After she swallowed, she spoke. "Why don't...why don't I call him and see if I can change his mind. Maybe a little...gentler, womanly touch will help. Would that be acceptable, sir?"
There was a pause, and she could just picture him narrowing his eyes and tapping his finger as he did when in thought. "Hmph. Very well. You may try. But I will not be surprised if you fail."
"Ah, yes, sir. Thank you, sir. Is there anything I should know before I call him?"
She could hear him sigh before saying, "No, no there isn't. Just report back to me as soon as you are done."
"Yes, sir. Ah, goodbye, sir."
"Goodbye, child."
Liliane hung up and then let out the breath she hadn't known she was holding. She set her phone down and stared up at the ceiling. This was no easy task. She hadn't planned on mediating between two grown men in her off hours today. She took a few more bites of Currywurst, and then called Ludwig.
When she was done talking to her brother, she set the phone down again. She wasn't quite ready to call Herr Beilschmidt back, but she knew that the longer she waited, the harder it would be. And the more impatient he would grow. After taking a bite of sausage, she picked up her phone again, stared at his contact for a moment, and then hit the call button.
"Hello, Herr Gilbert Beilschmidt speaking."
"Yes, sir, ahm...Dr. Liliane Beilschmidt speaking. I have news from Ludwig."
He didn't answer right away. Then, he said, "Go on."
"Yes, well, he told me that he'll be in Germany from June 9th through the 15th for his exams and some meetings. But he can arrange to go hunting then. Would that be...acceptable to you?" She almost squeaked the last part out.
There was a tense moment of silence. She barely dared to breathe. And then...
"Yes, that would be acceptable."
She breathed out in relief. She smiled. She felt some hope grow in her. And then, he spoke again.
"Will he be prepared? I believe he has most of his supplies in Canada, does he not?"
"Ah...um, yeah, about that. He said he won't be able to bring his own guns. Or his dogs."
"I see," came the cold reply. After a moment of silence, he continued, "Well, I should have expected him to slack off. He still relies on me, but what is an older brother for, if not that, hmm? At least you can be counted on to be prepared."
Liliane smiled, but then felt guilty for it. At least no one was around to see it. "Yes, sir. Thank you, sir," she said.
"Very well. I will provide the guns for him and myself, and the dogs if I decide we need them. We'll go deer hunting. I have it on good authority that the bucks are large this year."
"That sounds perfect, sir."
"Of course. Oh, and, child? You and I will still be going boar hunting on our regular date. You will come with the boy and I to go deer hunting too, won't you?"
"O-oh, yes, sir. I...I didn't know I was invited to that too. Thank you."
"Hmm, well, it would be good to have a good example of a respectful child along. Perhaps he will learn to emulate you, if it can be drilled through his thick skull."
Once again, she had a guilt-heavy smile on her face.
"Yes, sir. Thank you, again, sir."
"Hmm, well, if that's all. You may call him back and tell him of my approval. I will make the arrangements shortly."
"Yes, sir. Of course."
"Goodbye, my dear."
"Goodbye, sir."

Sorry to be American in ur inbox but you always reblog those food polls with tags like "yessss we had this every Sunday for tea time" and it's not only a food that I've never heard before but also a food that is completely inscrutable from the name and the photos. Excuse me what is currywurst. What are you talking about.
omg wait i've just seen this 😂 currywurst is actually german and i've only had it bc i've been to germany lol. it's basically a bratwurst with a spicy ketchup-y sauce, usually served with chips (fries) or crispy potatoes
Tumblr media
(badly cropped picture of currywurst i had in berlin)
but a lot of the british foods are just. ubiquitous here and it does surprise me when people don't know them! i have american/canadian friends who live here and i am always really surprised at things they don't know (like i just found out recently that american pigs in blankets are sausages in pastry?? but not like a sausage roll like a hot dog sausage?? weird) considering lots of people think our cultures are similar

Okay one more ask then I'll leave you alone lol (unless you don't mind talking german stuff) Are there any particular places or sights you'd recommend to someone visiting? Like something they really shouldn't miss out on while in Germany?
I love talking about German stuff! Keep in mind that I haven’t been to Berlin since before the pandemic, so not sure if all my recs are up-to-date, but these were my favorite places when I lived there:
Teufelsberg is one of my fav places on earth! It’s an old listening station from the Cold War built on top of a giant hill of WWII rubble covered in greenery/forest that’s basically been turned into a shrine to graffiti (which btw is everywhere in Berlin, the street art scene is incredible there) and it’s a fun hike to get to the top
Hamburger Bahnhof is a very cool contemporary art museum with a bunch of weird installation art, also one of my fav places
All the museums on Museum Island are great, and the Berliner Dom is there too if you want to go up to the top for a view of the city
Brandenburger Tor is a great landmark to see, and if you go at the right time there are cool events around it (I went to a projection art festival there and it was amazing)
The Holocaust memorial is very powerful, as is Topographie des Terrors, which is an incredible indoor/outdoor museum that I would highly recommend
For shopping, the Mauerpark flea market has great stuff and is huge (would recommend learning enough German to haggle!)
If you like contemporary theater, Schaubühne is great, and the opera and ballet companies are very good if that’s more your thing— tickets can be cheap depending on where/when you get them and if you can get a student or senior discount
Not sure how the nightclub and bar scenes are rn but I would recommend trying to find a local source for those if you’re into that! The “big ones” generally aren’t worth the cover price (and if you’re American you can’t even get into some of them on principle lol), so try to find some hole-in-the-wall types if you can
I don’t have any specific restaurant recommendations (except maybe the rotating restaurant at the top of the Fernsehturm if you want to be a fancy tourist), but make SURE you get some Currywurst (there’s even a fun museum around the food) and some Döner! Berlin has a lot of great Turkish food and some fantastic Vietnamese as well. If you want classic “German” food, go somewhere that says they serve southern German food (from Bayern aka Bavaria)
There are also a lot of awesome parks in Berlin if you want to hang out and look at dogs or kites or stuff like that, it’s a super green city! Tiergarten, Treptower Park and Tempelhofer Feld are all great, and the Botanischer Garten/museum is lovely (I went there a lot since I lived close by)
And finally, if you’re anywhere in Germany around Christmas, go to a Christmas/winter market! Beautiful (often handmade) things to buy and so much delicious food, I miss those a lot
These are all just from my experience being there! If you want a really robust tourist experience I recommend looking at one of Rick Steve’s guidebooks :)

We are always looking for new lines to add to our comprehensive line up of catering options. A German sausage cart is one that has been suggested regularly. We have always done hot dogs, or Frankfurters, as they are commonly known, so technically we already do German sausage. But we have never added a full line up with Bratwurst etc. So, that is going to change. We were recently contracted by a major corporate client to provide lunch for five days at the opening of a new warehouse. The stipulation was something different everyday. We finished on the last day with Bratwurst and fries. This went down a storm, so we decided to add a full German sausage experience to our menu. The initial offering is gonna look something like this; Bratwurst The famous German sausage, whose name translates as pretty much 'Fried Sausage.' This is probably the most popular of the offerings, and what many consider as the typical fare. Frankfurter Although fans of the frank might argue the point. Equally well known, and also hailing from Germany, this one tends more often in this country to go by its alternative name of hot dog. Currywurst Basically the aforementioned bratwurst, chopped into bite sized portions, then slathered in curried ketchup. Kasekrainer Basically a sausage with chunks of cheese inside, a fabulous combination, well it is if you happen to like cheese and sausages. These will all come with a selection of typical condiments such as mustard, German ketchup etc, oh and the traditional sauerkraut, which happens to be finely chopped cabbage fermented by various lactic acid bacteria which gives it a distinctive sour taste. If you want to book a German sausage cart for your event, check our service out! Read the full article

VW also make a spiced ketchup to go with the sausages.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When the notion for currywurst strikes, as it does occasionally - fond memories of eating it while sauntering round the market in Freiburg - I get my sausages, sometimes Bockwurst, sometimes Silesian Jagdwurst, from the local Eurospar, and make my own spiced ketchup.
Get a standard bottle of ketchup, empty out enough to make room for 1 heaped Tbsp curry powder (I like hot, with maybe a bit of extra-hot ground chilli for Extra Interest, though medium or mild works just fine) then replace the cap and shake well.
Leave it for about half an hour for the curry flavour to develop, then cook the sausages and fries, cut the sausages into chunks, slather on the ketchup, dust on some more curry powder and Get Stuck In.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Side-note; I've also made a from-scratch Tomato Curry Cooking Sauce which tastes really nice.
Peel 1 large onion and 4-6 cloves garlic, and chop fine.
Heat about 2 Tbsp vegetable oil in a saucepan, add the onion and garlic and fry gently until the onion is soft, translucent and golden.
Remove from the heat, add 2 Tbsp curry powder (heat level is up to you), 1 tsp of black pepper, 1/2 tsp salt, and stir together for a couple of minutes until the curry-powder smell has mellowed.
Return to the heat, add 2 x 400g (standard) tins of chopped tomatoes and 1/2 tin of water, bring to a boil, reduce to a simmer and cook gently for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour. Stir occasionally to make sure it's not sticking to the saucepan.
Taste, and add more salt / pepper if required (try a splash of lemon juice or vinegar as well). Using a blender / stick mixer, whizz until smooth, or push through a sieve with the back of a spoon, and put into jars; it will keep in the fridge for about a week, in the freezer for at least a couple of months.
To use: put into a saucepan and gently cook Stuff in it until done - the Stuff can be cubed chicken / meat / fish, paneer (pressed fresh curd cheese, Google for how), pre-soaked lentils, carrots-green beans-red/yellow/green sweet peppers, a combination of any or all.
(I've used it with sliced sausages too, which I suppose is a weird sort of currywurst - kabanossi, pepperoni, cervelat, even hot dogs; if the sausages are ready-to-eat, just heat everything through.)
Serve up with brown or white rice, chapattis / tortillas, pasta (little ones like orzo work very well), even baked or mashed spuds. It's probably more Confusion than Fusion, but I won't say anything if you don't.
;->
FOOD HUBRIS BY COUNTRY america: believes their shitty local burger chain is a once-in-a-lifetime culinary experience because their mayo includes onion paste canada: if your poutine tastes better than the styrofoam plate it comes on you will discover the cold rage that lies under the canadian's polite exterior united kingdom: despite thriving and unique fusion cuisines spreading from the UK to the rest of the world in recent decades, when asked to think of 'british food' the average UK citizen will start a fight over whether cold beans with a modest side of white bread is haute cuisine france: McDo Ortolan Bunting italy: extremely mad about american versions of italian food. blissfully ignorant of what happens in brazil brazil: if the scientific genius applied to making cronenbergian pizzas were applied to anything else, brazilians would all be commuting to jobs on the moon. They have pizza that can feel pain russia: obviously mayonnaise is the perfect topping for all foodstuffs, this is solved. The question is what to put on top of mayonnaise, and it might never be answered germany: less a joke than a fact: the single most produced numbered Volkswagen part is a standardized currywurst

Opening up the Cheap Food Section: A Comprehensive Look at the Food Service Industry in Germany
Tumblr media
In the bustling culinary scene of Germany, fast food occupies a significant position. The Germany Food service market offers a wide range of flavours and experiences, from the scent of freshly baked pretzels to the sizzle of bratwurst on the grill. However, the fast-food industry stands out as a beacon of convenience, flavour, and cultural fusion in this vibrant mosaic.
Understanding Germany's Food Service Market Before delving into the particulars of the fast-food sector, it is essential to comprehend Germany's food service market  broader context. There are a wide variety of eateries in Germany's robust food service industry, from traditional beer gardens serving hearty schnitzels to avant-garde bistros serving creative dishes.
As per statistical surveying, the German food administration market has encountered consistent development as of late, filled by variables like rising expendable salaries, changing shopper inclinations, and an inexorably unique eating society. Customers in Germany are picky about what they eat and place an emphasis on quality, authenticity, and sustainability, which drives demand for diverse and high-quality food options.
The Rise of Fast Food in Germany Despite the fact that Germany has long been associated with culinary traditions that are rich in history and heritage, the fast food industry has experienced a remarkable rise in popularity over the past few decades. There are a number of reasons for this trend:
Changing one's habits: Convenience reigns supreme in today's fast-paced world. With furious plans for getting work done and occupied ways of life turning into the standard, shoppers progressively go to cheap food choices for speedy and brother free dinners.
Globalisation: The impact of worldwide culinary patterns couldn't possibly be more significant. Germany's food culture embraces cultural diversity as well. Offering a taste of exotic flavours and cuisines, international fast-food chains have entered the German market.
Innovative Products: In Germany, fast food restaurants now offer more than just burgers and fries. Fast-food menus now offer everything from gourmet hot dogs to vegan falafel wraps to satisfy a wide range of tastes and dietary preferences.
Key Players in the Fast-Food Industry The fast-food industry in Germany is dominated by a number of prominent players, each with its own distinctive flair. Among them are:
McDonald's: McDonald's continues to dominate the fast-food industry in Germany with its golden arches adorning street corners all over the country. The restaurant chain continues to attract diners of all ages thanks to its renowned Big Macs and crispy McNuggets.
Burger Lord: With its flame-grilled burgers and indulgent Whoppers, Burger King, which is a close competitor of McDonald's, has established itself as a distinct player in the German market. Customers in Germany have embraced it because of its strategic expansion and emphasis on personalization.
Subway: Subway is a refreshing alternative for health-conscious diners looking for new, customizable options. Subway has established itself as the go-to spot for healthy fast food thanks to its made-to-order signature sandwiches and salads.
Neighborhood Top picks: Germany has a thriving ecosystem of local fast-food restaurants and snack bars, each offering a taste of regional cuisine, in addition to multinational chains. These establishments, which range from currywurst stands in Berlin to döner kebab shops in Cologne, give the fast-food industry a new flavour
.
Opportunities and Challenges The fast-food industry in Germany continues to thrive, but it faces challenges as well. Operators of fast-food establishments face significant obstacles as a result of increased awareness of health and wellness issues as well as increased scrutiny of environmental sustainability. Additionally, the rise of food delivery services and shifting consumer preferences present market participants with both challenges and opportunities.
Be that as it may, with development and versatility at its centre, the cheap food portion in Germany is ready to proceed with development. Fast-food restaurants can stay ahead of the curve and meet the changing needs of German customers by embracing eco-friendly practices, digitalization, and plant-based options.
In conclusion, the fast-food sector contributes significantly to the German food service market in Germany by providing a diverse selection of flavours, convenience, and cultural experiences. As purchaser inclinations advance and cultural patterns shape the scene, cheap food administrators should stay dexterous and receptive to remain important in this aggressive climate. Fast-food restaurants in Germany can continue to delight customers and earn a unique place in the country's culinary history if they adhere to their core values of quality, innovation, and customer satisfaction.

What are some interesting ways to serve Bockwürst (German smoked pork sausage)?
There are several creative ways to serve Bockwürst. Here are a few ideas:
1. Classic Style: Serve the Bockwürst with sauerkraut and mustard, accompanied by a crusty bread roll.
2. Bockwürst and Potato Salad: Pair the sausage with a traditional German potato salad, which typically includes vinegar, oil, onions, and herbs.
3. Bockwürst in Curry Sauce: Serve the sausage sliced in a rich and flavorful curry sauce, often accompanied by fries (Currywurst style).
4. Bockwürst in a Bun: Serve the sausage in a hot dog bun with your favorite toppings like onions, pickles, and mustard.
5. Bockwürst and Pretzel: Serve the sausage with a soft pretzel and mustard for a classic German combination.
6. Bockwürst Skewers: Cut the sausage into bite-sized pieces and skewer them with vegetables. Grill or bake them for a tasty appetizer.
7. Bockwürst in Beer Sauce: Simmer the sausage in a beer-based sauce with onions and spices for a flavorful dish.
8. Bockwürst Stir-Fry: Slice the sausage and stir-fry it with vegetables and noodles or rice for a quick and easy meal.
9. Bockwürst Breakfast: Serve the sausage alongside eggs, toast, and hash browns for a hearty breakfast.
10. Bockwürst and Cheese Platter: Serve sliced sausage with a variety of cheeses, crackers, and fruits for a delicious snack or appetizer.

“Tampon manufacturers always use blue liquid instead of something that looks like menstrual blood, it’s ridiculous!” “Razor manufacturers would rather show their product being useless than show a hairy female leg!”
I realized I can actually explain why this is the case. Last year I decided I had to get a professional photo of myself for my website (was doing freelancing stuff then) and the photographer I went to, as it turned out, had recently completed a MA in economics and, given that as a photographer she was interested in this kind of thing, she had written her thesis on how images work in advertising.
As it turns out, the accepted wisdom in marketing is that people subconsciously associate the product with the images it is shown with, and especially with the emotions these images cause in them. My photographer had done an experiment where she asked people how much they were willing to pay for products when she presented them along with a photo of a puppy vs. with a neutral or off-putting picture and people were willing to pay way more for the product they associated with a puppy - even if the product had nothing to do with dogs. If you look at ads closely, you will notice that often products that have nothing to do with cute animals, flowers or children will nevertheless feature pictures of them. And attractive humans. Lots and lots of conventionally attractive young people.
From an advertising standpoint, it’s a bad idea to have people associate your product with the problem it’s meant to fix. When you analyze it rationally, this doesn’t make sense, but when you look at it from an irrational emotional standpoint, it very much does. If you show a tampon with menstrual blood, people will apply whatever associations they have with menstrual blood to the tampon, so the tampon will generally be seen as messy and dirty. Same with razors, which will be associated by the people most likely to want to shave their legs with feeling dirty and unattractive.
So advertisers are not really being misogynist, they are merely being “not subversive” and adhering to the dominant views on the “problems” they’re trying to fix. And now I’ll show you a recent ad by a German mobile internet company so you’ll remember my post more favourably. Note how it manages to show a cute raccoon AND a cool hipster guy who likes peace, diversity and currywurst. Hahaha! That sure is a likeable company raccoon!

They all look so yummy 😋 🤤 thank you @hammill-goes-fogwalking I accept them all!!
I researched them all!! And I would especially pick the Nussschnecke and Krapfen mit Hiffenmarkalthough it’s tough because the Käseschnecke looks amazing too!!! Also I LOVE that the Laugenhörnchen are called SQUIRRELS!!! So cute!!! Anyways these all look soooooo good, it’s past 3 am and I would eat em all right now to be honest. P.S. how genius is Currywurst-Tasche?? I mean the flavourful curried sausage in that delicious pastry instead of how Americans put terrible quality sausages/hotdogs (conventional hot dogs are the WORST, they’re so gross) in a horrible spongy bun?? Yes please!! I’ll take a Currywurst Tasche any day 😋.
