Father’s Day might actually be my favourite episode of Doctor Who now. The Doctor’s insistence on ordinary people being the most important thing in the universe - both when talking about Pete, but also talking to the bride & groom about how they met. Pete’s already selling Vitex from big ol’ jugs in his flat. And Pete is so chipper - so relentlessly optimistic, and he has so much love for his wife & his daughter despite his shortcomings - which breaks my heart when you think about the Pete of Pete’s World, who had Vitex take off and made all the money he dreamed of but stayed so unhappy. Like, just look at the difference between Father’s Day Pete (who’s overjoyed to learn that Rose is his daughter, tells her he’s proud of her, repeatedly refers to himself as her dad to convince her it’s his responsibility to take care of her mistakes) and Pete’s World Pete (who repeatedly insists that she’s not his daughter, refuses to listen to her when she tries to tell him, etc.)
(I mean, she technically isn’t Pete’s World Pete’s daughter, but it’s the THEMATIC parallels that get to me)
