you then had an easy night in, ordering in food and watching your favorite girly shows, texting rafe goodnight, not wanting to bother him when you know hes so busy. you went to bed with a slight pout on your face, hugging one of his pillows and wishing it was him.

as the days went by, your patience grew thin. rafe was texting back less and whilst you knew it was due to all the hard work he was doing, you began to grow frustrated. there was only so much shopping you could do before burning out, and only so many shows you could re-watch! you needed your rafey back, or at least, some attention.

so you sent him a little text, saying, "baby can we can call tn? miss u :(", to which he replies, obviously, yes.

you giddily get dressed into one of your new sets, and when he calls you, you let it ring 3 times before answering.

seeing his face was just such a relief, you smiled so brightly. "rafey!" you exclaimed.

thoughts on barty canonically crying for his father to save him while being arrested?

to me, whether or not the crying is “real” is one of the key moments of barty’s ambiguity in the text and i love that it’s never answered. barty’s ambiguity and the unresolved tension between the parts of him that are “true” and “pretend” is one of my favorite things about him (i think of the classical greek term, polytropos) and i wouldn’t rob him of that by trying to give an answer.  

i can definitely speculate but it's just such crucial scene in my opinion. under the cut i'll talk about the implications of both options. if i had to title a barty character thesis it would be the line from that passage: “and the boy continued to struggle” 

OPTION 1: it's fake

this was my gut reaction at first. faking innocent tears is his best move in that situation and we know him to be manipulative & a gifted actor. it would also have been an audacious and hilarious move given that anybody who even remotely knows him would know that he’s not a simpering little loyal sensitive son & serve as a final way to fuck over his dad— playing up the picture of the Son That He Should Have Been. it would also explain crouch sr. being like “Lmfao Take Your Lying Ass Immediately To Wizard Jail” 

OPTION 2: it's real 

however, i believe that it was real. i dont mean that he actually thought he was innocent or anything but i think the tears were real. in my interpretation we’re watching barty grapple with this farcical trial, knowing full well the outcome, and crying for his entire wasted life. to me, that’s more compelling.

 i try to keep in mind that barty doesn’t have a father in the traditional sense, he grew up under imperius with a disembodied Father-Voice in his head telling his body what to do— he doesn’t know him as an actual man. in barty’s experience, his father is more like an old testament God. so it’s fascinating that he was able to leave & rebel to the extent that he did under those circumstances. he continued to struggle. 

i love that he’s acknowledging himself in this moment. it’s a plea for help technically, but i tend to read it as more of a condemnation: “I��m your son!” 

this is the first time in years since leaving that he’s seeing his father again, this time in physical possession of his own body. but again he’s quite literally in chains. and now all that secret dictatorial control over him is in front of an audience. i see his crying as his elektra “filth teaches filth” moment– if I had to place more of my own emphasis on his words it would be “I didn’t do it— I’m YOUR son”. in this context, “Mother, I didn’t do it. It wasn’t me” resonates harder. 

i also cant talk about this scene without calling attention to this specific moment: 

the line “i didn’t know” feels so… out of place? and guttural? it almost doesn’t make sense in context (saying “I didn’t know” feels more like an excuse for guilt rather than a denial of it) and that incongruency renders it so… honest? and then it’s sandwiched in the middle of this confession that we KNOW is a lie but it hurts for some reason… he didn’t know it would turn out like this. but i think that deep down he did, and he hoped that it wouldn’t.

i think that barty thought he could leave, and he thought he could try and arrange himself into a semblance of his own person, and he thought he could have something of a life. but there was literally no other possible outcome for him— who just happened to be born misfitted to the circumstances he was raised in, and who struggled fruitlessly his entire life— and trying to leave was a naive schoolboy’s fantasy and his apology comes out in a naive schoolboy’s words. he didn’t know! 

and this is also why it's so awesome that he breaks out of jail AGAIN and kills that man lmfao. (cardi b voice) Murder scene, Barty made a mess / POP UP, GUESS WHO, BITCH?

How Did the ninjas individually discover that Lloyd and Harumi are a couple, or did they find out together?Were they keeping things secret for a while. my money is on Kai probably walking in on them. just based on the face you made in one of your post with those two kids and he’s like what the hell. Sorry you just have my favorite. It’s a weird dynamic but it worked been for them. I’ve ever seen of this ship.

in my mind (and version), itd be a gradual buildup! small things they noticed about those two that were a little bit peculiar, but nothing "weird enough" to comment on. like, for example, they'd walk into a room where rumi was braiding lloyd's hair — and that's not too weird, but lloyd doesn't like it all too much when people touch his hair; or they'd walk into the kitchen to see lloyd cooking rumi a meal — and that's also not that weird, except lloyd isn't super into cooking and they order takeout most days.

and since those two already knew, lloyd told the rest of the team. their reactions varied. of course. zane was pretty accepting of it but cole and jay were a bit more sceptical.

in my version, llorumi actually break up and get back together a few times! cause their situation is so complicated its hard for them to just stay as one thing. and the ninja were all there to witness it -- they didn't have 'messy' breakups, just. breaks. it takes them a LONG long time before things become good enough for them to really stay with each other. they don't actually end up strictly dating either. they're a secret third thing by the end of it. to me :3

Sevro and Darrow's fight was awesome. Sweet, even. Talking about how he can see the protectiveness in Darrow's eyes when he was looking at the refugees on Tinos. His head on Darrow's knee. Talking about Eo & Sevro talking about how all he wanted was to cause wrath in the wake of his father's murder. He questions his leadership abilities and doesn't want it. I understand because he was the one that was still looking for Darrow. Saved him from torment and torture. He came back different, broken and defeated. Sad. ANGRY. Then how quickly leadership fell back to Darrow when he was the one that worked during that year that the Rising wavered when everyone thought The Reaper had been killed.

one of my favorite parts of this book was The Reaper's speech. Because he wasn't Darrow, he was REAPER. He's also dramatic as fuck and I love him. He was standing up there in front of Refugees and I got GOOOOOOSIIESSS bitch when the people were like, reaching out to touch him, I was like THIS SHIT IS CRAZY. He has no branding and he's like

"I STAND BEFORE YOU A MAN UNBOUND" and people are gasping in shit cause he's like the first person in hundreds of years to bear no sigils of color.

What sort of things would the DMC characters be into? What would their favorite medias be, who would their favorite characters be, their favorite dynamics, their favorite ships? Favorite things about it? Would they try and have any involvement in the fandom space online? If so, what sort of involvement?

Ill do them in order:

Dante: Well we know he's into smutty magazines and maybe even a bit of collecting, seeing how cluttered the office appears to be. This makes me thing he'd be into more retro things like old arcade machines, specifically those 1v1 combat games, and i can also see him reading old superhero comic books. (For anybody that knows the game, i can see him enjoying Dead or Alive too lmao)

He doesnt strike me as the sort to enter a fandom space and be an active participant, but i can imagine him enjoying discussing it with close friends like Lady/Nero or maybe even Trish. A casual enjoyer, i imagine he is.

Shipping too i feel like he'd try and be casual about... but we all know he secretly has an OTP that if they do not get together by the end of the series he will Lose It.

Vergil: Novels, poetry, theatre too. Also a secret Y/A novel enjoyer. By virtue of spending a good chunk of his life in the underworld and/or a bit disconnected from society while on the run as a kid, i imagine he isn't too well versed in fandom culture (does he even know what a fandom is?) But if prompted, would gladly yap to you for hours about his favourite literatures, the characters, the stories, etc. Enjoys all genres, but has a preference for darker themes and dark fantasy.

I dont think he'd be too into shipping, he strikes me as someone who'd rather analyse and break down his favourite media untill its shreds on the floor rather than pairing his favourites together. Dante despises when Vergil tries to get all analytical and point out broken physics on his favourite series when he's just trying to be a casual enjoyer lol (he secretly enjoys hearing his twin actually happy enjoying something for once, but would never admit that even over Eva's grave)

Nero: A total fandom nerd in his free time, mainly whatever TV shows were able to air in Fortuna and his favourite bands too. Can talk for hours about the intricate lore, the characters and the stories of his favourite media much like his father, however when it comes to analyzing stuff and deriving a deeper meaning from context clues, Nero would rather just enjoy things as they're presented to him. Strikes me as the type to mostly enjoy classic hero vs villian stories, and is a bit of a wimp with horror though he swears up and down he can handle it no problem.

Since Fortuna is pretty cut off from the outside world, and internet doesnt seem to be a very prominent thing in the DMC universe (if it even exists at all), i dont imagine he'd be too aware of larger fandom spaces. But i can see him having his own group of friends in Fortuna who share common interests with him, and they discuss the media together (possibly even friends from the Order or maybe even his time in the orphanage.)

Shipping, absolutely. Has multiple pairings and a few he depises for whatever reason, isnt too concerned about whats canon and whats not canon, and will gladly re-imagine the lore to suit his needs.

When it comes to his music, he will 100% make you a playlist or 5 of his favorite bands, what he things you'd like, what he recommends to try, and maybe even some he doesnt like just for fun. Much like me, Nero cannot live without his music.

For the others, ill do them kinda brief but i can expand on them if people wanna hear more:

Lady: Casual enjoyer of various media, mainly TV shows, but very much likes shipping and will happily debate over her pairings. Has a secret love for horror.

Trish: A bit like Vergil in the sense that she likes analyzing media and diving into the deeper meaning of everything. Likes shipping but less to pair cute couples, and more to explore various relationship dynamics and whatnot. Likes romance and cheesy stuff, but also really enjoys some darker genres sometimes too.

Nico: The kind of person who has to get into the physics and realism of everything in her favorite media, pointing out what does and doesnt make sense both within the fictional world and their "real world", and loves pointing out references to things whenever she can. Also takes inspiration from various media for her creations. Most of her favorite genres might be considered childish, but that just makes them even cooler to her.

Kyrie: A sucker for a good romance novel, she says she's just a casual enjoyer and not that deep into the fandom, but she has cried when her OTP didnt get together by the end of the book.

Lucia: Dumary seems pretty dead so i dont think theres much going on there to get into fandom-wise, but if Lucia were to get into something i imagine she'd enjoy watching rom-coms with Kyrie and Trish, the three of them debating their favourite pairs and laughing at all the cheesy moments. Much like Kyrie, she's a sucker for a good romance plot.

Im going to do my fave Eng cover lyrics first, then im gonna pull the two choruses and the second verse from the official eng translation. Also im gonna look at this song from the perspective of my boy Yasuke.

I feel like this is a FANTASTIC beginning, not only for the actual song, but to establish Matsushima. They were each others WORLD, they wanted to live their entire life with the other. But its also that give and take. They sacrifice so much of themselves for the other and they still feel unbalanced, especially with how Yasuke constantly feels used but acknowledges that Junko was always there when nobody else was. This also gives Yasuke the need to keep Ryoko at arms length, unsuccessfully.

we said we would stop, but it was all talk, a lie to one another

we hide the truth with wordplay and rhyme

a secret language you won't get just by looking into our eyes]

This truly represents both Yasuke's constant cruel words, and sometimes actions, but also Junko's need to inflict despair onto the ones she loves. But at the same time, its their game. Its their way of communicating with one another. Yasuke says that it took up until the tragedy to realize how obsessed with despair Junko actually was, and to me that reads as though he viewed her inflicting despair onto him like how he inflicts cruel words onto her. He never truly means those things, and he thought Junko didn’t either. Its their secret game, their language.

Not much here, but I definitely see this as Yasuke realizing that their love is no way healthy, and he wants her to recognize that. Even though they will never do anything to fix it.

Yasuke losing his mind by the end of Dr0, all thanks to Junko (AKA Android Girl). By the end, he literally feels like he never knew her and that she was just using him for her own benefit. Even when all HIS feelings were genuine. He spent most of his life truly believing that Junko loved him, and that belief is totally shattered by the time he dies.

i know, although

I see the first lyric both as how long has Yasuke loved her, but also how long has he hated her. I can see him asking himself when resentment began to grow and how did he manage to love a person like Junko. The kiss line also will forever remind me of the kiss scene between them, and how she uses poison in her lipstick to paralyze him. The last line, i personally prefer the translated ver, but the way Yasuke keeps trying to save both Junko AND their relationship. They are stuck in the loop of give and take. And Yasuke just wants the old her back. He wants to restart with Ryoko.

Yasuke being the little shit he is and refusing genuine affection. He keeps pushing people away, but he knows Junko can see past this, so he has no incentive to stop. Having your own mother forget and start to hate you has GOT to affect your self esteem in some way, and his constant isolation is a clear sign of that.

I see this as him regretting both the things he did to protect Junko, but also him betraying her by keeping her as Ryoko. He’s extremely pessimistic and constantly worries about everything, he cant just forget about everything and start living a normal life with her. Also the fact they it isn’t over, he still has things to cover up for Junko, loose ends to tie. The last line, Junko literally promised that they would be together forever, but i find it so fascinating that he only refers to Ryoko as either his patient or his acquaintance. Despite Ryoko calling him her friend.

Yasuke wondering if he should allow himself to get close to Ryoko, to indulge in the old Junko he had practically lost to time. Yasuke hating Junko so much in the end, that he kills her for his own sake. Even though he still loves and cares for her, he cant keep going on, so he tries to end it. He doesn’t want to let get, but he has to.

Ryoko was truly "his", but there where times he couldn’t tell what was Junko and what was Ryoko. He didnt know who she was at the beginning of chp 3, still cautious that it was Junko. He wanted no part of her to remain in Ryoko.

I prefer this last lyric over the other, mainly because its exactly what he’s doing. He’s rebooting her, over and over. But it wont change anything, no matter how hard he tries. I feel like it encapsulates his motivation sooo well.

THE ANSWER IS. BOTH YES AND NO. it never Actually Happens but it is talked about!!!!!!! the whole thing is like. dannys parents are ghost hunters and dont know about his powers so theres a lot of him like. overhearing talking about them dissecting ghosts and experimenting on ghosts and such. not knowing that he is one!!! prime territory for somes angsty ass fics. however i am of the small minority that doesnt actually think the fentons are monsters apparently. they dont know!! how could they know!!!!! theyre scientists!!! do you know how much scientists casually talk about dissecting things!! its a lot!!! also theres been a few different instances of them finding out about dannys powers (almost always retconned by time/memory shenanigans but its fine) and EVERY TIME THEYRE SO SUPPORTIVE OF HIM. AND THEY TELL HIM THEY LOVE HIM REGARDLESS. AND IN ONE CASE THEY EVEN APOLOGIZE FOR SAYING THOSE THINGS AROUND HIM BC THEY DIDNT KNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! anyway. anyway. i digress bc i love the fentons. anyway! there are so many. OK I AM SOOOO FUCKING BAD AT TWO TRUTHS AND A LIE. IM SO BAD AT IT I CAN NEVER THINK OF ANYTHING. so instead i am just going to think of fun facts about them. so actually im gonna kill two birds wiht one stone here and answer both of ur questions abt them. here we go !!!

i think it would be REALLY funny if william is the only one with a drivers license bc he grew up in Not The City (just because he has a license doesnt mean hes GOOD). dakota is lactose intolerant but chooses to be in stubborn denial about it (he canonically doesnt like ice cream!). virion, despite being compared to a cat so often, is allergic to cats. speaking of animals, william likes animals but animals DO NOT like him!! on the other hand animals absolutely love dakota he is friends with every stray dog and cat in the whole city. virion was homeschooled by his parents/the greats. virion also doesnt know much about anything in regards to pop culture/general everyday civilian life? because he was never completely removed from the cape world at any time growing up. no non-cape adults in his life. so he and william still have their movie nights where william introduces him to shitty b-movies hehehe. dakota tries to get him into more Normal movies like. disney or ghibli or whatever but virion likes the shitty ones more. ASSIGNING THEM FAVORITE GHIBLI MOVIES WHILE IM AT IT. this is not which ones i think theyre the most like, just the ones i think are their favorties. dakota likes ponyo, william likes howls moving castle, virion likes princess mononoke, ashe likes spirited away . dont ask me why. UHHH FAVORITE PLACES TO HANG OUT OUTSIDE OF THE BASE/HOUSE. dodgeboy memorial library. lightspeed hangs out there and they like her <3. antonios pizza. he lets them loiter bc they always tip really well. william likes going to the park because he has chronic Grew Up In The Woods disease and needs outdoor time or else he'll go crazy. hes not used to city life. dakota likes the park bc there are lots of little animals there and he can Run Around, virion doesnt like the park as much bc its a lot of Vulnerable Open Spaces and those make him nervous. speaking of which in my head ive grown so attached to the idea of him being so hypervigilant at all times. look at him ive given him anxiety!!! just like. the insane betrayal losing every important figure in his life immediately leading into a life basically on the streets alone picking fights with other capes led to . idk man i keep thinking about it like sleeping in shifts but its impossible to do that with only one person!!!!!!!! do u know what i mean!!!! basically translating the "growing up on fauna where everything wants to kill you" energy into this setting. Snorpy x Reader (Infodumping)

You knocked quietly, hoping you wouldn’t disturb him while he was getting ready or startle him. “Snorpy? Hun? Ready to go?”

“In a moment, dearest!” Came the muffled reply, as the sound of scattering pencils and sheets from papers most likely knocked over in his haste. You can’t help but snort at your boyfriend’s antics, waiting semi-impatiently. You don’t have to wait for much longer thankfully, as he stumbles out of the room a few minutes later. He stands in front of you, giddy and nervous at the same time. “I hope I look presentable..?” He asks.

He looks adorable, handsome as well. His usual apron and cap were removed, with his locs being put into a nice little ponytail. His apron was removed in place of a red knitted sweater, from a close friend, and navy overalls, rolled up at the ends. And while you would normally tell him as much, his bashful, hopeful grin is too much for you not to kiss him. You gently cup his cheeks, and press your lips against his forehead, nose and lips in rapid succession.

“D-Darling!” He cries out, surprised glee in his voice.

“You look amazing as always, Snorpington.” And you mean it. You hold out your hand, and he takes it as you walk out the apartment you two share.

“So, where are we heading, anyways?” He asked. You’ve kept the location of your date incredibly secret so far, and you planned to keep it that way.

“Nowhere crowded, I promise~”

“That’s incredibly vague…”

You simply shrug, him snorting at your smirk. You both head inside the car, shift it into gear, and reverse out your apartment grounds. It’s not a far drive, just a couple turns and a few miles until your car reaches a deep forested area.

“Love?” Snorpy inquires, glancing around at what he presumes is an empty space. “I don’t understand why you’ve…” He turns out and you visibly see his breath get taken away. His pupils dilate. The little things you love about him when he’s flustered. “Oh.”

You hold a small bundle of blankets, as well as a picnic basket, kissing Snorpy before heading in front of him. “C’mon, this way!”

He follows after your brisk steps, nearly tripping over a tree root or two until you two make it to a cliff. You’ve chosen the perfect time, the sun setting as evening comes, it’s orange hue providing a perfect view on top of the large ledge you’ve chosen.

Snorpy sputters as you rest down the blankets. “H-how did you even find-?”

“Me and Chandlo found it after a hike in the woods, I thought it’d be a cute date spot.” You spread out your picnic, admittedly full of his favorite sweets as it has actual food in it. “Sit down!” You say, taking a seat on the blanket. Snorpy drapes himself across your lap.

“Mmmm…it is quite nice outside. Thank you, dear. I did need a bit more fresh air.” Snorpy hums.

“No problem. But hey, now that we got some time to ourselves, you wanna tell me about the theories for that new show you got into?” His eyes light up, and he rushes to unlock his phone. You’re so used to seeing it when he talks about his charts or Grump Peaks, it's cute seeing it for something else.

“Oh where do I even begin?! It’s just- The mystery is so gripping and the threads are connected and -ok, ok, the main character, I think personally she's the one that betrayed the crew because if you look at the beginining of the show-” Snorpy rambles uncontrollaby, pulling out a slideshow he had made on his phone for you to scroll through. The bright radiant joy from your normally so quiet boyfriend is something you cherish and care for.

“And then, it’s Grump Peaks right, where, uh, where…” His fingers snap. “Right! The-the-“ Snorpy flapped his hands squealing, before returning to his infodumping. You listen to him patiently, stroking his locs all the while.

“So, you’re saying this cyborg lady is actually the mother of…Jaxon?” You ask.

“Yes! Exactly!” Snorpy nods. He stammers for a second, before taking a breath and looking at you grateful. “Um…t-thank you. Y’know for listening to me.”

“Of course. I could listen to you ramble all day, especially when you look so happy, honey.” You giggle, smooching his nose. “Now go on, I wanna hear more!” The floodgates for theories open once more, as Snorpy stims with his hands, infodumping his heart out. His smile is infectious, and his eyes still gleam.
