as for books, I would say Capitalist Realism by Mark Fisher could be a good starting point. And I think it would be worth to read something about these topics:

neoliberalism, capitalism

communism - marxism, history of socialist countries

russian nihilism

christianity - dispensationalism

The devs have said that they were influenced by Hegel, Marx, Slavoj Žižek, Lenin, & they also said they used to be anarchists so I would say reading some anarchist text could be interesting too if you want to really dive into it (idk, Emma Goldmann for example)

it's a gramsci quote :D technically it's a loose translation of a gramsci quote filtered through french, from slavoj zizek (whom i have no opinions on other than that i cant listen to him talk.), the original is more literally "The crisis consists precisely in the fact that the old is dying and the new cannot be born; in this interregnum a great variety of morbid symptoms appear." it's about fascist italy in the context of the communist gramsci getting imprisoned by mussolini. i like it on a political level but yes also on like. An asoiaf level. call me cringe but my books and stories and media.... oooo its soooo like my blorbos from my books....... -_-

in general it does describe westeros like the courts and kingdoms and politics etc :) my personal fav out-of-context web weaving of it is about the long night... im personally a long night supporter i think it's like the bubonic plague and will cleanse westeros 😈
