CBS Ghosts is my new guilty pleasure so take my new OCs. The Blanchet family were distant French cousins of the Woodstones who visited the house in the early 1900s, only for a violent house robbery to take the life of their youngest daughter, Mercedes, and her loyal self appointed guard dog, Horse. Only 8 years old, it takes some time for Mercedes to understand her fate, and for some time she’d be very distressed that her family seem to be ignoring her. On the bright side, the other ghosts are there to try and make things easier, though the misfit collective have a hard time caring for a child given their circumstances, and conflicting ideas on how best to raise a little girl.

Of all the ghosts, she is closest with Thorfinn. He has a soft spot for the little girl.

#‘why does her dog have an English name’ because he didn’t have one at first he was just dog. and then they died #and thorfinn who had watched this dog take a bullet in attempt to save his owner #took one look at this thing and went “’AHA! Imagine looking at a character whose entire premise is that in every stage of his life, he's made every version of himself into someone that inspires people to such a degree that EVERY SINGLE VERSION OF HIM has people wanting to literally follow in his footsteps in some way or another.....

And coming to the conclusion that like.....the most important things about him are the sum of all his trappings. His entirely homemade developed from scratch could not exist if not for what he already was and brought with him BEFORE crafting this newest version of himself trappings, with his greatest trait throughout all of it being his adaptability; his ability and willingness to roll with the punches and not try to simply weather any opposition or changes to his life but instead reshape himself as needed to better fit INTO whatever new shape his life and the world around him takes. All while managing to carry the most innate, fundamental and necessary aspects of himself from one version to the next. Thus every single version of himself is different but simultaneously every single version of himself is also undeniably the same person.

The strength of this character, to me, will always be that he can be so many versions of himself, he can become so many things, all without ever actually losing or discarding any of the aspects of himself he considers most essential, the things he's not willing to lose or give up just to keep going. Finding that road not taken by most, usually because most never even think to look for it as an option. But one that he's always able to find because the one trick he's mastered in his tumultuous life is threading that needle of not just digging in his heels in an unproductive way but rather being selective about when and where he makes a stand and decides "this is not a thing I'm willing to compromise about" but here are places and ways I can and will change and evolve and adapt in order to make it possible for me to hold onto these parts and keep them as they are.

And that's why its always so mind-boggling to me that so many writers can't seem to think of anything else to do with Dick Grayson other than invent some new reason for him to just....not be that person, or to like just take the character whose most basic fundamental trait he's NOT about to compromise on is willingly giving up his spot in the driver's seat of his own life.....and make him just a passenger in his own life and stories.

Dick Grayson at age nine....at age nineteen...at age twenty nine....the one core thread running through all versions of him is the only way he's standing back and letting you call the shots for him or putting him on the sidelines in some way is over his dead body.

HOW he goes about that, what that looks like, who he becomes and what aspects of himself he plays up at some times and what traits he lets fall by the wayside at other times when they offer less in service to his primary goal here....that changes constantly. He changes constantly.

But those changes are almost always (or at least they used to be/should be IN MY OPINION) made with the intention of keeping certain things about him or his life as consistent as possible.

That's the duality of Dick Grayson that I'm here for. The inherent contradiction of him that COULD allow for endless conflict and breaking new narrative ground in all sorts of ways if mined properly:

His eternal willingness to compromise....but only ever in pursuit of doubling down on the ways he's not willing to compromise.

Forever walking that tightrope in ways that only a kid born and raised in a circus could ever hope to.

Fox is not the most talkative person. He isn't brooding or particularly quiet, either, he enjoys a good talk. He has some parameters for what consists a "good talk", but if the other person has something interesting to say or a good enough sense of humor, Fox will engage with them.

He also does not enjoy sitting alone in his office in complete silence, trying to finish up his work. No, he works the best when there is someone else in there with him, or if he can have a quiet conversation with someone while typing. It makes it all a little more bearable, and makes him a faster worker.

Thus he enjoys sitting with his brothers, listening to them talk, saying something back to them every now and them while he works. He enjoys having Breha on the other end of a call, and her either working as well or reading to him if she's taking a break, and every now and then either one of them will say something funny and they will laugh a bit, and then go back to their work, with smiles on their faces. He enjoys going up to Bail's office to work, listening to him hum something softly as he reads his papers, and getting a good cup of caf that Bail makes just right just for him.

(When they go to bed, all three of them, Fox has the time to scroll through the holonet and read social media posts and whatnot, and it's warm and quiet, and every now and then he will show something to Bail and Breha as well, before they all go back to doing their own thing)

“South Park is a satirical show that goes after everybody and at the end of the day is meant to make you laugh and not be taken seriously” and “south park jokes about sensitive topics that hit close to home for a lot of people and it’s absolutely valid to feel uncomfortable by some of it” are statements that should be able to co-exist tbh

#this is something I think a lot of people need to realize tbh lol #because I see so many people who take this show WAY too seriously #fans of the show a lot of the time to boot #and the things they choose to draw the line at are always so weird??#like why is every single other thing they make fun of in the show fine to you but the second they make fun of one particular topic it’s #going too far??#however I also think it’s important to remember that something being a joke doesn’t necessarily mean it’s not gonna be hurtful #esp since YEAH this show is very offensive and jokes about a lot of dark topics #and some of it CAN feel like a bit much or take things too far sometimes #I feel like it’s pretty normal to feel uncomfortable by it at least a bit??#like I’m one of this show’s number one defenders and there are still absolutely things that make me uncomfortable jokes or not #doesn’t mean I’m gonna go around throwing a fit over it but it doesn’t mean I have to like it either??#and I do think a lot of people have this mindset of you either have to love everything in this show or hate everything #which I think is kind of silly lol

I dedicate this one to the friends of mine who love Sengo and Tonbo. It's a beautiful performance with a wealth of interpretations, a myriad of feelings.

Keep in mind that these are only the subtitle files, timed and tled to the DMM senshuuraku and the bluray respectively. The archive version will have a talk at the start, so the starting times of the subs will have to be delayed accordingly.

That time I was showing my cousin the Oda death scene and as a light-hearted, thoughtless question she asked me why Dazai threw away his coat and I answered without hesitation “that's to symbolize how he's repudiating everything he's ever known for Oda”. I still stand by that

I go off about Catholic/christian religious influencers of all kinds and I do so for many reasons but one of the main ones is just. the feeling they’re selling (and it is a feeling and they’re selling it, even if just for views) it doesn’t feel like that for everyone. That whole simplistic set-up of struggle struggle struggle, breakthrough, clarity, emotional peace, tears streaming down the face. That’s not real. Or at least it’s not real much of the time in MANY cases and even when it is real that isn’t the only part or the most important part of having a relationship with God. It’s probably the least important part, the feeling. and so it fills me with RAGE when the emotional part of religion is sold and packaged and paraded and presented on Instagram as “inspiration”! it distorts the whole reality of a relationship with God and puts a literal and figurative Instagram filter over the whole thing.

#I mean. pray in silence where your Father who is in Heaven can see you. like??????#I’m sure I’m getting the direct reference wrong but.#anyways it just bugs me so much because I’m a highly emotional and intense person and religious experiences just aren’t like that for me #and faith isn’t like that for me. and it just isn’t this soft-hearted feel-good thing all the time!!!!!!!! most of the time it isn’t #and it makes me feel sooooooo bad and awful when some Instagram influencer with woman femininity or grace in her handle #shows up in my feed ready to talk about the waters that the Lord has led her through #like I can’t even begin to articulate my own journey with God #nor do I feel compelled to do so. but seeing other people do it makes me feel so instantly awful and alienated #and …. grubby #it makes me feel grubby because I am not seeing the world through soft pastels and lens flares #and because I don’t experience God’s love for me as a feeling #never have probably never WILL #and it’s just upsetting and maddening and I think it’s so bad for the culture #also I’ve started reading a little bit of st. Francis de sales every night #much against my will at first because pretty much all spiritual reading makes me bristle and makes me anxious #but honestly it’s been so good and he finds that kind of insta-influencing DEAD #because it isn’t fake and it isn’t performative and it is practical #and generally it’s realistic and hopeful and simple #anyway just ughhhhhhhhhhhhh. I have so many feelings about this

trying to finish as much as i can off playstation plus before letting my subscription end and one of those things was the bioshock infinite burial at sea dlc and oh my fucking god what an absolutely atrotrious experience. incredibly somehow worse than bioshock infinite (a game i hold no affection for) and may be one of the worst video game experiences i've ever had.

#we happy few remains the single worst game i've ever played #it has quite a lead on anything else #but damn this was so much worse than i was expecting #from a gameplay perspective i hated every second of it #the worst stealth mechanics i've ever experienced in a video game #games that have no stealth mechanics and expect you do stealth do better at stealth than this does #pretty much impossible to walk more than a few steps without every enemy in the level instantly knowing exactly where you are #because you stood on the wrong kind of floor #miserable #and of course elizabeth has to be weak and much less capable of combat than any other bioshock protagonist because she's a woman obviously #from a narrative perspective it was just #there should be a specific concise term for when prequels spend all their narrative efforts to show you the origins of any important elemen #lets call it 'story by way of recognizable nouns' or 'prequel origin porn' or someone else is probably better at naming things than i am #anyway that's the narrative in burial at sea #its vapid its obvious its a foregone conclusion it fucking sucks #and like look i don't love elizabeth bioshock infinite but she deserves better than anything that happens in this dlc

I came up with maybe not a theory but more of just an observation that the east blue 5 seem to parallel the 5 love languages and it's kinda reframed all of their actions and behaviours towards each other so much for me on my watchthrough. Got brainworms from that one oda interview where he said zoro doesn't like verbally expressing gratitude and prefers to show appreciation through actions and it got me thinking

The 5 languages:

Physical touch - Luffy

Acts of service - Zoro

Quality time - Usopp

Receiving / giving gifts - Nami

Words of affirmation - Sanji

Funnily enough in OPLA we definitely see a lot of physical touch Luffy. He's always playfully punching or hugging crewmates, despite having known the crew for such a short time he's just instantly clingy and physically present around them in east blue.

Zoro is very much an actions person. He's a little emotionally constipated and doesn't verbalise his feelings very much, in fact that seems like the last thing he wants to do, but he will always be looking out for any member of the crew silently, and is almost always the first to spring into action when it's called for. He shows he cares through acts of service and being there for his captain and crew.

Usopps language being quality time is shown pretty well in syrup village with his relationship with Kaya. Kaya is a girl who has everything she could wish for financially, but ussop provides her with a much needed friend, someone to support her and just physically be present and talk to her. He risks so much just to make her smile because being there for his friends is such a crucial and important thing for him.

Nami's love language being giving/recieving gifts means so much to me because it is so often seen as the most shallow of the love languages and I have seen so many poor analysis and digs at Nami's character, reducing her to just being greedy and money hungry. Did they watch Arlong park with their eyes closed??? For Nami, gold or money is a means for her to provide for the people she cares about, to ensure their financial stability and freedom and to keep her crewmates fed and afloat. She spent so long scorned and alone and (believed she was) hated because she created this money hungry persona to save her village and to best Arlong. Every piece of gold she bled to get was meant for that end goal. Nami deserves the financial freedom and gold that being a strawhat pirate could give because for years and years every bit she earned was tucked away for the well-being of others and was then stolen from under her nose. (This paragraph got very long but I'm not sorry I am the captain of the Nami defense squad.)

And finally Sanji reflects words of praise as a love language. I think it's the most clear to see with how Sanji is so quick to praise any female character he comes into contact with, especially Nami, but I think it also reflects his strained relationship with zef while working at the baratie. Zeff is always verbally critical of Sanji as a way to rile him up and to encourage him to leave the restaurant. Zef weaponises what makes Sanji tick to antagonise him and tries to get him to leave that way, but Sanji is far too stubborn and feels too great a debt to leave.

I think east blue definitely shows the 5 dynamics in a pretty clear way and kinda helped me understand what makes the characters tick. Also why some of the characters end up butting heads or getting into arguments. They all show and recieve love in different way, sometimes there are misunderstandings or clashes but at the end of the day they all trust each other with their lives and it's such a strong bond.

Anyways I'll eventually draw some more OP but I'd love to hear any thoughts or other people's ideas if they have any on the matter. Sometimes I get analysis brainworms, and I first shared the idea on discord, but figured why not post it to Tumblr too

ALSO please if anyone has examples from the series that fit the love languages PLEASE share it, makes my heart oougggghhghg.

i feel like my dany posting is probably getting annoying i’m sorry lmao but i think the main difference between the show and book is that while book dany clearly deals with the same issues of superiority that like, fucjing everyone from westeros deals with, i think she really does want what’s best for people in the end whereas emilia played her so fuckin flatly and they were so bad at trying to adapt the themes of her story that for most of the series it just felt like she had a much more tywin-esque “i’m doing this bc Targaryens Have To Be On Top.”

like, book dany DOES ultimately believe in what she’s espousing ya kno, that all people should get to live safe, happy, healthy lives, that all people are deserving of dignity, that all humans are people with personhood! whereas for show dany, it all rang so fucking hollow. i just never know what scene to point to bc a lot of it is on emilia’s acting and apparently all of twitter & instagram has decided she’s emmy worthy so people will point to her scenes in the series and i’m like WHERE IS GEORGE’S AMAZING WRITING. #hello . uhhhhhhhhhhh #UHHH WAIT WAIT I CAN EXPLAIN I SWEAR #i know i haven't posted a thing since like A MONTH AND I'M SORRY BUT i have a really nice excuse for this . yes .#right after posting devi's drawing my mom BROKE HER FOOT ?? WOAH !#and idk maybe i was sad or . stressed because i had to do a bunch of things my mom used to take care of and it was really stressing #this + school stuff + a drawing a day + some other things pretty much started killing me #and suddenly i was getting hives every single day after 11.30pm . yeah . it was TERRIBLE #so uh . i had to stop doing some stuff for my own wellbeing . like . drawing . for example #but it worked !#now i just have a bunch of mosquito bites on my hands . they seem to like them .#OH SO well um YEAH DRAWING #an art trade with one of my friends !!!! drawing this was honestly so fun #as you can see this is from october 25th . but i wanted to wait for brusk to finish her piece before posting it #te quedó precioso emily . valió totalmente la pena la espera . tqm #edgar's costume looked so boring next to scriabin's #he looked way prettier with wings but if i wanted to add them i would have to erase 90% of scriabin and he came out so pretty to do that #so . instead of making him wear something pretty and detailed like scri's costume i had to make him wear something you could see and think #“ oh yeah that's an angel ”#i explained this to brusk after showing her the drawing and she said #“ if you think about it . him having a traditional costume fits his character "#and i was like OH #ACTUALLY YEAH THAT'S COOL #anyways i really like this one . the colors are so pretty . i finally found a way to make my colors warm and pretty .#WELL UH THAT'S TOO MANY TAGS BYE #vargas #zarla s #vargas zarla #scriabin vargas #edgar vargas #sunny's art
