i woke up this morning like “i want to write a story justifying why éowyn would have dropped her virginity like a hot potato” and anyways 4,000 words later i am Not At That yet but i am getting a better sense for what i think her life would’ve been like. it’s below the cut in its unproofread state lol also a brief reference to what faramir was up to circa TA3011 because i can’t help myself

Until her twelfth birthday, Éowyn had never thought of herself as particularly more of a girl than a boy. She was addressed as a (young) lady when she wasn’t being addressed by her kin, and had certainly been forced into dresses and skirts — though this came perhaps a little later than it should have, if the judgemental looks from the various women of the court were anything to go by; but outside of those instances, there really hadn’t been much to differentiate her from her elder brother. She had learned to use a sword just as he had, she had been taught (with limited success) to speak several politically-important languages, and had been given as free a rein on Meduseld and Edoras as he had at her age. Those years, she would later realise, had been some of the easiest and most contented of her life, even if the dark cloud of their parents’ passings ever hung over her.

On her twelfth birthday, in a firestorm of misfortune, everything had changed. First, and entirely by coincidence, Éomer had received his first posting, in Captain Grimbold’s éored stationed in the Wold. For Éomer, it was nothing but excitement — at long last he would be able to take off out into the world just like Théodred and would finally get to define himself as a warrior and as a man. That he would be going quite far away from home only heightened the excitement. For Éowyn, who had always been closesr to her brother than anyone else, it was the end of an era, though in exactly how many ways she had not, in the moment, fully known.

Second, she had her first blood. It was not something anybody had warned her about and, in that manner which precocious children are wont to take up, she attempted to solve the problem without knowing quite what the problem was. Hiding in her chambers, hands and knees shaking somewhat at the sight of unexpected blood, she had changed into something thicker (and darker in colour), and bundled the soiled garments up in a spare bedsheet. What little she knew of such matters told her that to be caught bleeding must be a sign of some personal failing, and so must be handled in the utmost secrecy.

There was, she knew, a small fire burning in the western gardens that morning to clear fallen foliage from the previous week’s thunderstorms. With luck and a little careful manoeuvring, she imagined she would be able to sneak her secret bundle into the flames without arousing any suspicions.

Creeping through the halls of Meduseld (mercifully quiet owing to the ceremonial changing of the guard happening later that day), Éowyn had accidentally stumbled upon the third thing that would change her life forever.

Even to her young mind, he immediately seemed a man of contradiction. Undeniably young, but somehow carrying himself with the comportment of a man several decades older; the dark hair and shorter stature of a Dunlander, but the presence and language of a man of the Mark. At first, he had not noticed her — he was so diligently listening to the King that it seemed to her he might not have noticed if an entire éored had passed him by. But when, failing to mask herself fully behind a passing attendant, Éowyn had been spotted by her uncle, the man’s attention had fallen to her entirely.

He was impeccably behaved, granting her the courtesy of a deep bow — despite few ever humbling themselves before such a young girl — and spoke to her levelly (not, to her ears, taking notice of her youth). In the practice yard and on horseback, Éowyn was accustomed to being spoken to with little regard for her age, but rarely was such deference extended into the stricter social edifices of Meduseld.

By any stretch of the imagination, it should have tickled her pride to be spoken to as an equal, it had, of course, been something she had longed for ever since she had first mastered stringing words together into sentences. Something, however, unsettled her about the entire interaction, raising hairs on the back of her neck and forcing her shoulders back into a defensive posture. She told herself that it was a natural consequence of having been effectively caught attempting to bury evidence of a misdeed, and that had she not first met him while she was clutching a bedsheet hiding a bloodied shift, she might have had an entirely different opinion of him.

After she was dismissed and scampered out into the gardens, she was immediately caught by Ceolwenne, the daughter of one of the Lords of the Eastfold who had recently arrived at Edoras to be presented at court. Ceolwenne, who Éowyn had, until that moment, had very little time for, had taken one look at the bundled sheets and Éowyn’s ghost-white face and immediately pulled her into a hug. Together, they had thrown the bundle into the garden fire, and Ceolwenne had, in perhaps flightier language than Éowyn might have preferred, explained what that blood had meant and exactly what she should do to prepare herself in the future.

It should have been a tremendous relief to her to discover that it was not a sign of moral failure and to find that it was something that women could speak to other women about in relatively frank terms. Instead, and for reasons then entirely unexplainable to her, it filled her with a deep, abiding sense of dread.

Thereafter, the changes in her life came on gradually, some of them so slowly that she hardly noticed they had happened at all. The years passed and she grew up. At least two or three times a year, she bled, but now she knew what to expect (though that did not mean she found it any less unsettling). Éomer and Théodred were away for greater and greater stretches of time, and the man, who she now knew as Gríma, took on a greater and greater role in the Golden Hall.

At first, Éowyn had imagined that the duties bestowed upon her were duties given to account for Théodred’s absence — welcoming local and foreign dignitaries, maintaining the daily running of the household, and seeing to the needs of the King. But with these duties came certain infringements on the life she had come to enjoy. Gone were the comfortable linen dresses and loose hair of her childhood, replaced by elegant velvet gowns and coiled, braided updos; no longer could she practice for hours on end in the practice and tilt yards, not when, as Gríma took care to remind her, the household could not cope without a strong commander at its helm.

With the finer gowns and the increased hours spent indoors came a change in how people spoke to and looked at her. After years of hoping to be treated as an adult, she began to learn that what she had hoped for was to be treated as an adult man, not an adult woman. Adult men could sit in counsel with her King-uncle, and could drink until late at night and argue about the mechanics of war and glory. Adult women could not.

It was as much a sign of her becoming aware of herself as it was a sign that she was physically changing. Slowly, so slowly that she hardly noticed it if she didn’t think about it, her hips swelled and her breasts became heavier and more pronounced. Her face slimmed, her lashes lengthened and darkened, and hair grew on parts of her body that she had not expected it to grow. All of these things seemed to her to be things of little note — except, perhaps, as an occasional nuisance when gowns that had previously fitted her no longer did — but seemed of great consequence to the people around her.

The whispers of the women and men at court wriggled their way into her subconscious. Lascivious tales of noble women undone by pregnancies out of wedlock, peasant women trapped by Dunlenders and subjected to unimaginable acts of violence, and women who took so happily to the chore of sex that they freely took multiple partners — to the chagrin of the court. Without expecting it or inviting it, Éowyn soon learned that the mantle of womanhood that she was now inheriting was a heavy and burdensome load.

She was fourteen the first time she had recognised a man staring at her chest. He was a minor sergeant from just outside Aldburg, twenty-two years old, fairly handsome for so short a man, and loud-spoken with a riotous laugh. They had been standing opposite one another in conversation at the outlying perimeters of a celebratory dance when she had followed the line of his sight. When he realised she was aware of where his attention was turned to, he had smirked at her, then disappeared off to find the hand of another young girl for the next dance. Beside her, one of the fluttering twits who hovered around the court in search of a high-born husband leaned in to her and giggled, telling her in no uncertain terms that she should be honoured by the man’s interest in her body. She did try her best to be honoured, but the only emotion she could conjure within her was a vague sense of fury.

After that, she had taken to finishing her domestic duties as hastily as she could so she could slip out of her gowns and exhaust herself in the practice yard. The first few times she had done so, she had moved so speedily through her duties she began to trip up and make careless mistakes, which had resulted in Gríma keeping an ever-closer eye on her work. When mistakes were inevitably discovered, she found herself forced back into gowns for longer and longer periods of time, and being forced back into gowns meant being forced back under the sometimes-lewd gaze of men. These failures, she was told, were an abdication of her womanly duty to maintain a neat household. Thus, womanhood became inextricably bound up with restrictions on her liberty and the unsettling and unwelcomed notice of men.

Ceolwenne married Elfhelm on a cool spring day, a humble but pretty affair. They went away for a few short weeks, and when they returned, she had a wealth of stories to whisper to Éowyn. Ceolwenne, who had been far better prepared for a woman’s life than had Éowyn, seemed to have entered her marriage with a plethora of insecurities and expectations — most of which had turned out to be wrong. Even still, it was the first time Éowyn had heard that sex could be anything other than a wearisome duty to be endured.

When she was sixteen, Théodred’s èored briefly returned to Edoras for some ceremonial formalities. A young rider, at most three or four years her senior, watched her in the practice ring as she proved to her cousin all that she had learned in his absence. Théodred, with a small smirk, departed after just two rounds, leaving her alone with the man. He introduced himself as Alaric, a local boy under Théodred’s command. He was quick-witted and praised her combat skills, and she had been happy to have someone who wasn’t her kin speak admiringly of her ability to fight. He’d told her he had little experience with cleaning up in the royal stables, and that he needed advice on how to properly stack the saddles so as to avoid her cousin’s ire.

Because she was sixteen, and because she had so rarely been around men who didn’t see her desire to fight as a threat to their manhood, she convinced herself she believed that he needed help, and followed. Inside the stables, she made a valiant attempt at showing him the ropes, until he’d pinned her to the wall and kissed her breathless.

It was sloppy, bordering on bad (though then she had no basis on which to judge the quality of a kiss), and it surprised her. But he didn’t seem to mind that he was kissing somebody in breeches who reeked of horse, so she kissed him back until a stable boy interrupted them. When Théodred’s men left at the end of the week, she didn’t watch them leave, and she never again asked after him, though for many years afterwards she often thought of that day in the stables.

A few months later, her marriageability was first spoken of. Lord Boromir of Gondor, a steadfast and favourite friend of Théodred’s had momentarily passed through Edoras on an unofficial diplomatic errand. (After he had left, her uncle had made it clear that he thought Boromir had been sent by his supercilious father to sniff out weaknesses in the Mark.) Lord Boromir had very proudly admitted that he expected that his younger brother, a captain fighting at the far eastern reaches of Gondor, would soon announce his betrothal to the eldest daughter of some lord from the south of the kingdom. It was, he said, a remarkably politically-savvy match, certain to bring the more capricious southern fiefdoms back into line.

Gríma, invited but not desired at that dinner, had, as was his way in those days, managed to redirect the conversation towards the theory of marriage as a political tool, and how a more stringent application of that theory in Rohan (as was seen in Gondor) might come to the kingdom’s benefit. He had implied, though had stared her down while he spoke, that unwed women kin of the King ought to make themselves more available to men of good sense.

Éowyn, who had never before given much thought to marriage, except in passing recognition to the fact that she would likely one day have to marry, blanched at the notion that any future marriages of hers would be discussed so openly. But then it occurred to her, with the swiftness of a winter gale blustering through an open door, that she was, in fact, of a perfectly reasonable age to be thinking of marriage.

In a move that had endeared him to her immensely, Lord Boromir had pointed out that while he referred to his brother as “younger,” he was in fact eight and twenty years old, and his apparent intended was only a few years younger than that, and both had come about the arrangement after many years of unattached life in adulthood.

The door, however, had been kicked open, and the monster that dwelt within could not be so easily returned to its enclosure.

It seemed to her the most frustrating conversation in her life in the subsequent two years, and it seemed to her to occur at two levels. The more overt level was that of the occasional discussion of marriage candidates’ suitability. Men would come, from time to time, to seek out the hand of Lady Éowyn, and Lady Éowyn would, with ruthless efficiency, dismiss them. In this, she had an entirely unexpected ally in Gríma, who seemed to find fault in all of her suitors as quickly as she did, and was far less reserved in his dismissals.

The more subtle level was that of discussions of what would be expected of her after marriage. At first, the language had been amorphous: Théodred had been slow to marry, Éomer was far too pleased with his status as the effective “spare”, what would become of the line of Eorl? Who, asked those who dared ask aloud, would ensure the birth of an heir? In those years, Gríma became a master manipulator of conversations. Where compliments paid to Éowyn had once concerned her ability to uphold her duties, or her voice, or her ability to dance, soon they focussed on her youth, her femininity, and, for the bolder flatterers, the curve of her hips.

She reached an age where she took to working with the elder women of the court on the various tapestries and blankets and carpets that they wrought on their looms. Then, she learned that sex, despite for so many of them being a frustrating burden at worst and a bore at best, was a regular topic of conversation. In their conversations, she came to learn much she hadn’t before had a way to learn. There was a moment, she learned, in the midst of sex where people reached what the women referred to as a “crisis.” For men, this crisis was not only common, but nigh on mandatory, the ultimate and only goal of sex. For women, this crisis was uncommon, but certainly not unheard of, though often stumbled upon quite by accident. Despite their language, all of the women seemed to speak fondly of this crisis, as if it was something to be actively sought after. Having no experience of her own against which to measure her opinions, Éowyn merely accepted that this was the way things were, and that, even if it was a happy one, a crisis sounded like a level of instability she would rather not invite into her life.

Meanwhile, her uncle seemed to age ten years for every one that passed. Her duties became more numerous and more laborious. Stubbornly committed to her precious few minutes of freedom a day, she fought hard to preserve her few hours of swordplay a week, even if it came at the cost of sleep or eating. It was to her benefit and detriment that she placed such a high premium on that time; benefit, in that she never felt as if she couldn’t defend herself from physical harm if needs must, detriment in that it became Gríma’s easiest way to wrest control over her. She had to guard it jealously, had to take to keeping a dulled blade beneath her bed for the days in which she found all the practice blades mysteriously locked away, and had to implicitly enlist the help of the servants to cover her tracks.

More men came seeking her affection, and she sent them all away. Some men, the younger ones, the maverick officers, didn’t come looking for her hand in marriage, but to take their chances at cracking the Lady of Rohan’s stony exterior. It became a game of sorts amongst men in the know, winning her attention was a warrior’s challenge in its own right, akin to slaying a first — or tenth — orc. Whether she was oblivious to it or intensely obstinate the men never figured out, but either way, none ever had any success.

What to them was a game became a struggle for life and death for her. For each man that flirted with her or sent tokens of affection, Gríma tightened his grip further and further. Her uncle had been almost entirely unmanned, his thoughts so consumed by the looming conflict that the social troubles of his youngest ward bled into the background noise.

Gríma touched her for the first time a little while after her seventeenth birthday. It was a brisk spring morning, and she was scheduled to meet a minor lordling from the Gondorian province of Anórien. She had gone out to the veranda without a mantle and, after a single shiver, Gríma had disappeared back into the hall, only to return with a thin, dark cloak. Though she was loath to accept any gestures from him, she was already surrounded by far too many dignitaries of the Mark who could not be trusted with any sign of defiance from the representatives of the House of Eorl. So, she had tipped her head in assent when Gríma presented her with the mantle, and held her hair back as he stood before her and secured it around her through. To onlookers, it would have seemed as if the fastener on the cloak was particularly fussy, because it took him several long seconds to finally catch it through. To Éowyn, the seconds stretched like hours as Gríma brushed long, moist fingers across the hollow of her throat, over and over and over until finally she’d stiffened, and he seemed to be broken from his trance.

A month passed before he touched her again, and then it was only a hand against the small of her back as he passed her in the council room.

A few weeks after that, it was his fingers wrapping around her arm to escort her away from her exhausted King.

Orcs pushed further into Rohan, a worrying puzzle that panicked all those in Edoras who had any business of knowing. Her cousin spent more and more time riding between his detachment and Meduseld, and each time she saw him he seemed tauter, more bereft of good humour, and, unsurprisingly if frustratingly, less able to listen to her worries. Through no fault of his own, he could hardly notice that it was not just his father whose constitution was bowing under the burden of conflict, and failed entirely to notice that Éowyn had grown distant and jumped every time someone entered the room without fair warning.

Her change in mood did not go unnoticed by Gríma, who quickly used it to drive a wedge between her and her uncle. Théoden, who had also become increasingly paranoid, seemed convinced that his line would die out. It took some careful manoeuvring from Gríma, but in time her uncle believed that it was Éowyn’s reserved personality that most threatened the House of Eorl. She was instructed, in no uncertain terms, to have a more open temperament and to show more warmth to their guests and allies.

It went against every defence she had learned. If she were to be more open and inviting towards their guests (who were all, invariably, men) then she would be indirectly inviting Gríma’s jealousy. She had always tried to deny that that is what it came down to — he was twenty-one years her senior, had known her since she was barely into girlhood, it all seemed incomprehensible to her — but at this earliest of breaking points, it was almost impossible to deny.

For three years, there was a stalemate of sorts. It was not a receding of hostilities, so to speak, but there were no escalations either. She found that if she didn’t put up any resistance when his fingers slipped under the hem of her sleeves or he stopped so close to her side she could feel his breath on her face, then she wouldn’t lose time in the practice ring, and wouldn’t be cornered into emotionally devastating arguments with her uncle and liege-lord.

Men continued to call, though there were fewer as the conflict worsened at the borders of the Riddermark. A daughter of a lord of the Westfold came to Edoras, Edith was her name. She was beautiful and self-possessed, she laughed loudly and drank heartily, and charmed the entire court within hours of her arrival. She took many bewitched men to her bed without a hint of shame, and in so doing left no room for anyone to criticise her. Better to die of good sex out of wedlock, she told Éowyn, than of bad sex in wedlock.

Théoden’s condition worsened, and Gríma cast a wider and wider shadow across Meduseld. Éomer was made third Marshal of the Mark, and Théodred began to spend more time in Edoras. The condition in the Westfold became bleaker with each passing week, the Dunlendings now threatened harm greater than they had ever been empowered to do before.

It seems to me that Satan would share the most in common with your way of life. You want a lover who is able to understand the intricacies of emotion - and Satan has spent his whole life working towards understanding exactly that. He may not believe in his own perception, but it is actually quite astute after a couple millennia of practice. He can usually tell when you need space, and he is not offended by it. At the same time, he is a very attentive partner. He will hold you tight for as long as you want, and is almost always happy to make space beside himself for you. The fact that you are able to apologize first after arguments makes it far easier for him to reciprocate. He hates admitting when he's wrong about something, but the way you handle yourself with grace in those situations inspires him to rise to your level. He will always apologize right after you do, and try to find a compromise to make you both happy.

He makes sure to tell you exactly what about you deserves this present, and the depth of his feelings. He is upfront about them, and has read so much that apparently he's learned to become a damned poet.

The notes he leaves you will sometimes leave you completely flustered with emotion, sometimes completely smitten.

The front door to the House of Lamentation was heavy. Unless careful, everyone in the house would know when someone came in. If you didn't take the effort to catch it before it closed, then the force of it would shake the whole front room. It was something that the brothers had come to forget about after so long living in the home, except for when expecting someone.

Except for when waiting for Makenna as Satan was. He had nothing special in mind, but knowing that she had a special group meeting for one of her classes left him a little on edge. He didn't know how the other demons in the classes would treat her when not immediately next to him or one of his brothers. And sure, Simeon was also in the group, able to protect her just fine - but that didn't ease his fears as much as it should have. He barely knew Simeon compared to his brothers after all.

When the door closing announced Makenna's arrival, he let out a sigh of relief and put down his book in order to go and greet her. Instead of having to go far, he found her already in the hallway, practically running to her room. A sharp worry pierced his chest when he couldn't decipher the look on her face, but he watched her retreat without saying anything.Things must not have gone well.

However, instead of following her, Satan turned the other direction.

About an hour later, a light knock sounded from Makenna's door, quickly followed by Satan's head peeking in. "Makenna?"

She turned to him, looking tired, and that same worry nagged at his heart. "Yeah?"

"I made you dinner," he began, opening the door wider to step inside. He was holding a plate of food, beautifully arranged like it was ordered from a fancy restaurant. He always thought presentation helped. "Your favorite."

He watched her expression for a sign, and the way her shoulders relaxed soothed him. At least he had been able to take one thing off her mind. "Thank you.." she murmured as he handed her the plate.

"Let me know if you need anything else," Satan told her after a short silence. He stepped back towards the door to give her time. "I'll keep my D.D.D on loud."

"Wait.. Satan?" Makenna called to him before he could go far. "Would you.. be willing to stay and watch a movie with me?"

His heart almost jumped for joy. Yes, of course he would. All he wanted was to make sure that you were happy. He would watch movies with you all night if it would bring your smile back. "Always," he answered, letting the evidence of his happiness bleed into his expression. Putting his hands gently on her cheeks, he put a soft kiss to her forehead.

"What would you like to watch tonight?"

DnD Characters:

note: for some of these, i have to omit large portions of info as i am either actively playing them, or saving them for a future campaign, and i dont want anyone im playing with to see and accidentally spoil themselves

Fennryn Autumntide—

They were separated from their parents as a baby, and instead raised by an older dwarven woman named Rhiannon Autumntide (AKA Anna). They lived in the forest on the mountain together. She taught them how to fend for themself, and a basic respect for nature and other living things. Their relationship was very teacher/student, but as the years went by they saw each other as family. Fenn solidified this by taking Anna’s last name when they were of age. Eventually, Anna passed away, and Fenn was left in the woods alone.

Fearful of dying alone without ever having experienced life off of the mountain, Fenn sets out to find an adventure. And they find one, alongside a younger tiefling man named Finn. Finn is an experienced pirate, but he is vulnerable. Finn and Fenn trust each other explicitly, and after some time, they fall in love.

Fenn is tall, muscular, and an older elf. They’re around middle aged.

Alistair—

Alistair is a mystery. They are a bizarre-looking half-elf, with a wicked grin, and glowing cyan eyes that lack pupils. They are seemingly fairly young, despite their hair beginning to grow white at the roots.

Alistair is extremely curious, and values sating that curiosity above most things. They spend much of their time exploring and researching. They also have a complete lack of respect for personal boundaries, and love to study and inspect whoever they can get their hands on. (They’re good with a pair of pliers, if you’re willing to let them pull a tooth. They’d be happy to show you their collection.)

Alistair also thrives on positive attention, especially from people who don’t give it easily. Perhaps that’s why they insist on hanging off of Frey as much as they do. Frey Matthias Wolfe is a rich bastard. He’s a man of study as well, but he’s a real mean bitch. And Alistair loves him.

Alistair’s patron... Is a whole other story. One that will remain secret, for now.

Jesse—

Jesse was spawned from the thought “I should make a mean nerd for everyone to bully!” And the execution, imo, was flawless. A 24 year old human man. Jesse is a bard, and he hates it. He has been traveling on his own for a while, and finished his bard college education a couple years ago. He’s pretty studious, and he’s determined to learn everything related to magic that he can.

Despite being a jackass, and kind of a stick in the mud, he does have some semblance of a sense of humor. He also likes to use his intelligence and skill to feel superior to the people around him as often as possible. He is visibly extremely disturbed by corpses.

Jesse is very vague about his past and his reasons for traveling alone.

Ford—

Ford is my newest character! He is a firbolg cowboy. Extremely tall (approaching 8’), with a powerful build. I can’t say much about him yet! He is seemingly very friendly and happy to lend a helping hand whenever he can. He has a sister, named Clementine, who owns a small grocery store.

Cressida:

(note: cressida city + the world its a part of belongs to my boyfriend @ghost-gore ! all the characters that mine know belong to him as well. warning for gore on his blog.)

Ellis—

Ellis is a demon who works in limbo under a man named Crow. Ellis is technically speaking, pretty old, but he looks just as much the young man he was when he died. He keeps his long hair back in a ponytail, and can’t seem to ever wear his suit properly.

Ellis’ powers allow him to see and alter people’s memories. Limbo, as it works out, is a mess of memories. He is always very busy keeping things in order. He’s no stranger to making mistakes, but he has a knack for fixing them to make up for it. When he has a moment to himself, he likes to slip into the dreams of humans. He thinks they’re interesting! (But he keeps accidentally bringing them nightmares...oops. Don’t worry, he can fix it!)

Ellis is in love with his boss, and has been for over a century. He has a hard time keeping it subtle, but fortunately(??) Crow is oblivious. But a century is a long time... And things have gotten intimate between them more than once.

He is also good friends with a much older demon, named Cordia. They like to meet up for drinks, and bond over funny cat pictures.

Rosier—

Rosier is an old, powerful demon. He was once a high-ranking officer in “Hell”’s military. He was charming, and an excellent strategist. (Having a powerful beast form also helps.)

However, something triggered him severely. In a frenzied panic, he shifted into his beast form and flew off.

As a beast, he has large red eyes, long antennae, sharp claws, and huge black wings. Years passed as he isolated himself, and legends spread of the Mothman. Rosier lost himself more and more, until he lost the ability to speak. He stopped seeing any people as the apocalypse happened all around him.

Later, living in the ruins outside of Cressida, he is found by a young hero named Ghost. Ghost is initially intimidated by Rosier, and treats him as an enemy. They fight a few times, before Ghost realizes that Rosier isn’t necessarily a foe— he’s just defending himself. Ghost then begins to treat Rosier almost as a pet.

After some time rehabilitating Rosier, Ghost brings him back to Orion HQ, where they work for Cordia. Cordia is one of very few demons old enough to recognize Rosier.

Eventually, Rosier is able to read, speak, and transform back into a more human shape. He still retains a few of his moth form’s traits, including fully red eyes, fur here and there, and limbs that fade to near-black at the tips.

Cyrus Darcy—

Cyrus is a rich bitch whore. He cares about three things ONLY: wine, sex, and himself. Money is power and he has more than enough of it. His parents passed away when he was a teenager, and they left him a fortune.

Cyrus always gets what he wants. If money can’t get it for him, he has another trick up his sleeve that can. Cyrus is a celestial, meaning a human born with supernatural powers. Cyrus has the power of suggestion, meaning that he can give anyone a short command that they are compelled to follow.

Cyrus has all the makings of a villain, but in actuality he is very neutral. He just wants to have a good time unbothered. He uses his powers mostly to get randos to leave him alone. (Randos like Arley and Kier, who are sent by Cordia to recruit Cyrus for Orion. It takes a while.)

Evelyn—

Evelyn (AKA Evie) was born in the Victorian Era, to a rich father. With money and good looks, she was often pursued by men wishing to court and marry her. She was disinterested in all of them. She preferred to spend her time reading and studying. Evelyn loved to learn, but she also loved a good romance or fantasy to sweep her off her feet.

Enter Cordia, who spent her Victorian days posing as a man. They had a passionate love affair, until Cordia made a sudden exit from Evelyn’s life.

Many years later, Evelyn awakens in the afterlife as an angel. When she and Cordia meet again, it is as equals and business partners.

She is now working as a librarian/an archivist. She also boxes, because she likes to feel strong.

Marcy—

Marcy is a thotty rave twink. They love music, they love neons, and they love to flirt. Marcy is very enthusiastic, and they are a little bit in love with basically everyone. They flirt constantly, and are not shy with physical affection. They like to do drugs and make out and they’re happy to do that with pretty much anyone who’s willing.

Marcy is also a celestial. Their powers allow them to control their personal gravity. They can jump really high, and come down hard, among other things! They mostly use it to help themself go fast. They used to be in roller derby! And they still love to skate.

(ps they have thighs for days and an ass that wont quit. thank u)

Other:

Bonnie Briary—

My newest oc! She belongs to a world where monsters are real, but hidden. Monsters aren’t super common, and they generally avoid integration with human society. (The setting is also a blend of modern + victorian fantasy. Think Lemony Snicket ambiguity.)

Bonnie is shy, sweet, and curious. She likes to study plants in particular. Her style of choice is cottagecore/fairycore blend. She has a garden that she loves very much.

Faust (belongs to tovomiel on ig), is a trash punk gargoyle monster, who for some reason has decided he likes Bonnie. He teases her relentlessly and loooooves to make her flustered. The catch is, he’s too shy to make a move beyond teasing and the occasional kiss. Bonnie, sweet as she is, is dying for him to stop leaving her hanging. Shenanigans ensue.

Lucio Headcannon-turned-Oneshot ~Support~

Imagine if you will (some of you wont have to) that feeling you get in your gut, that something isn’t right, and no matter how much you rationalise it, you know it’s going to stay there... For a while... Then it starts to infect your every day, every moment. Every movement or noise you make, however mouse-like feels like a monstrous mistake that other will undoubtedly judge you on. You can see it in their eyes. Maybe not. But YOU can SEE it.

This is how it felt in the Palace. Like you were the most abnormal creature in here. And when you’re surrounded by demons, risen dead, magicians, and other Archaic things, that just rubs pure salt rocks into road rash.

You missed your family. Your friends. You missed the love and the gentle reminders of it in a passing touch or outright hold. The most physical contact with another sentient creature you’d had recently was with those two lovely snow white pooches of the Count.

You were passing the parlor when Mercedes had trotted away from her company within. She paused when she saw you then hurried her pace to catch up, quickly followed by her kin. Within moments they had surrounded your legs, sat on your feet and wouldn’t move until you’d bent down and scratched their wispy heads. This was quickly rewarded by many a face lick. It was as if each drag of their tongues painted the corners of your lips higher until small giggles and serotonin began to flow. You paused, before quickly taking both the pups into your arms. Their necks settled on your shoulders and you three stayed there for a good few moments, charging your energies.

You knew you would be wearing that smile for the rest of the morning, and set on your way quick enough to avoid any perplexed, sneering attentions. You shouldn’t have worried though. It’s not like anyone was anyone around... Or like anyone would care...

Everyone here was wound tighter than piano wire; so hung up on stature, power, appearances, their own duplicitous endeavors that you knew, at least you thought you did, that asking for help would ruin the minuscule image of yourself that you’d fought tooth and claw to build up within these wretched circles.

That why you found yourself, burying yourself deeper into the blankets and pillows you’d arranged near the window, clutching the last of your wine in your hand and trying desperately to calm your wrenching sobs.

It was far later than it should be for you, but you found yourself staying up later and later now, unable to sleep. Just wanting to be held. The weight of the blankets felt real enough for now, you supposed. You could hear a servant or maybe two muttering in the halls. The hour of it should have made you stop to ponder, but you just wanted your glass filled. You’d decided to take a leaf from Valerius’ book as of late, and though you missed the tea you usually drank, alcohol seemed to numb you effectively as cliche as it sounded... It wasn’t as good as your mother’s home brew though...

Another tiny sob squeezed through your pipes.

There was a knock on the door.

You quickly dried your eyes, “Come in.” You scolded yourself for letting your voice crack. The door creaked open. It was one of the maids. A woman her age could have had several children and them, their own, but her face still held the hard vigor of a young lady.

“Evening madam--” she began, though you knew that it was so late it could be early, “--, you asked for some tea to be sent for you.” She presented the small, steaming pot brewing on a tray with it’s partner vessel.

You were too tired to be pleasant, “No, I did not.”

The plainness did not even catch the young woman off guard, “Well, whomever called for it, it’s here for them now”. She glanced at the empty bottle and glass in your hand pointedly, “May I take those for you madam?”.

There were only the dregs left. You nodded, “Yes, you may, thank you,” you almost looked guilty when you passed them to her, “That’ll be all.”

She gave a modest bow before turning with a curt stride, but she stopped at the door as if listening to her thoughts. She turned to face you, her voice becoming more gentle than a chicken’s plumage. “And if I may say so, madam, a cool compress, glass of water and a good night’s sleep will remove those red, puffy eyes before the morning.”

Your blush would have hidden any stand-out irritation around your swollen peepers, “You may... Thank you.”

Another nod, and she was gone.

You’d followed the maid’s advice and it worked a treat. She must have been sent by a guardian angel, because the tea sent you straight to the Land of Nod, and the suggestions removed most of the redness and volume from your under-eye. To anyone else, it would have looked merely like a restless night, and thank whatever God for that, because you had been called upon.

As you approached the balcony that led to the gardens, you spied the Count, as expected, sitting down to a simple lunch. Much more simple than his usual feasts. In fact, you would say it was almost folksy. Bread, cheese, simple fruits and sliced meats. You didn’t know what was in the cups yet, but you were ashamed to say that you almost wanted a little wine.

The Count could be said to look calm in that moment. You could say the same for yourself, only you knew that it was because you were still too tired from your pity-parade last night to worry too much today. To anyone but last night’s maid, you could be said to look either demure or bored out of your mind.

A grin slithered from his mouth as he saw you approach, “Aah, my guest for the morning. Please, sit.” He gestured at the wrought iron chair across from him, angled to the view. As one bordering on being a member of his court, you’d spoken with the count on multiple occasions. Though your associations mainly resided with Countess Nadia, you and he frequented each other’s company enough to skip several formalities. You noted that there were no servants to wait on you this fine morning.

There was no need to bow anymore, so you seated yourself, “Thank you, my Count--” His reaching for the bread halted.

“I’ve told you before, Petal, Lucio is just fine--” You reached for a handful of grapes.

“And I’ve told you before, Count, my own name suits me quite well.”

He grinned as he poured you both a soft sun coloured water. “Forgive me. Would you rather I call you Dirty Druid as Valerius does?”

You lifted the fine glass to your lips. It held a light chamomile taste to it. You guessed that it was some blend of tea; and quite a soothing one too. Your brow raise din appreciation to it, “Would you like me get up and leave? As a Dirty Druid I can find my own lunch well enough. Even in a garden as impractical as this.” It was then that you noted that the platter in front of you was much like what you would nosh on amid any day,

Lucio chuckled around the bread and meat in his mouth, quickly washing it down. “Look at me. Here I bring you to make you an offer and I’ve already upset the conversation.”

It was your turn to pause your collection. The Count’s eye peeked up past his lids, feigning occupation in preparing his next mouthful.

You bit into the slice of honeydew melon and crossed your legs upon the seat. “Colour me intrigued.”

He smiled; he had you hooked.

“Let’s finish this lovely spread first, then I can reveal my dastardly plans.” Your eye-roll almost groaned. You hated to wait; it made your nerves stand on end. You also didn’t know how someone could top up a glass so smugly, but this bastard someone managed to do it! You could feel your mind going overtime again...

He wanted to wind you up like a spring toy. He wanted to watch you jump. Loosen you up with a nice lunch, get you to relax and then BAM! This could all be some little prank between him and his courtiers. You didn’t know how or why, but your gut knew. It twisted in knots as you ate until you knew without a shred of doubt---

“You look stressed.” Your head flicked up. You hadn’t noticed he’d stopped eating, staring at you. You hadn’t noticed that you’d only been picking at your plate for the last 15 minutes of idle chatter.

The Count set his drink down, making to stand and reaching out for your hand, “Maybe the offer shouldn’t wait. Shall we?”

You took his hand, and followed him to wherever he was leading you, “I’m loath to think of what it is.”

“Nothing too terrifying I assure you... At least, not yet...”

He led you through the gardens to a rather secluded spot near a fountain. You’d come here often. It was far away enough from the Palace that you had your privacy to lounge in the grass, pick various plants for your dark needs (flower pressing), and you could dip your feet in the water on hot days. As you rounded the lavender you saw his faithful hounds resting under the tree, but they weren’t alone. You looked quizzically at a smirking Count next to you, but he only motioned you to go closer.

The lovely beast’s ears perked up as you got closer, almost running to you, but staying quite calm around the box they protected which was in no way too small. Sitting down next to them, you could hear movement inside. A slight rustling.

You lifted the lid as if there was a firework set to go off inside, but your worries soon vanished.

All sense of place, time and company vanished.

Because looking up at you were two large, mottled eyes.

It was a young mutt. Black, white, grey, brown, this mongrel looked like they had been splattered by an upset paint tin. Their eyes looked like a tempestuous sky that hovered off the coast. But above all, this little puppa wanted some loving. She immediately hopped out of the box and onto your lap, tail wagging and nosing tentatively up for some sniffs and kisses. She had a grin on her that practically drooled joy, and you soon had one to match.

Lucio felt the same thrill as if a well-planned siege had come together. Maybe something else, too.

You almost felt that warmth radiate from him and looked up, this time, properly befuddled.

“Found that little guy snooping around the carriage on my way through the city. His rugged good looks and obvious sense of taste reminded me so much of myself,” he ran golden claws through his hair and the sun flared behind it with dramatic timing, “that I thought it would be a shame for such potential to go to waste out on the streets. Looks like a sharp boy too.”

This dog’s eagerness was starting to forced some laughter out of you, “Well, they certainly have your more boisterous qualities, Lucio, but you may want to rethink the brains. HE is obviously a SHE.” You promptly held your new friend’s front paws up to reveal the lacking genitalia.

Lucio just stared straight passed her and at you. Oh stars! You thought. You just flashed a mutt’s privates at the Count! What were you thinking!? You struggled to not think of the humiliation to come--

“You called me Lucio.”

Your rising panic ebbed ever so slightly, “... Yes, I suppose I did.”

...

“But I still have a question.” Lucio began listening to you again. “Why are you showing me this absolutely adorable young lady?” You punctuated your query with a squeezing hug to the wriggling fluff ball.

“She’s yours.”

You were shocked, “What?”

Lucio paused, organising his words for once, by thunder. “I have Mercedes and Melicor, and now you have this little one;” Said little one recieved a good ear scritch as he continued, “ Dogs are said to be man’s best friend, and I would agree. They don’t trick or taunt, they don’t know malice or pretentiousness. If you treat them well and do your best, they understand that, they feel it, and they’ll love you for it.” Lucio’s gaze seemed to drift off, “Even if nobody else seems to want to.” You slowly bent your head, eyes searching for his to try and pull him back. You wanted to hear what he was saying. He tried a smile for you, “Everyone needs someone to love and hold when things hurt just too much. When wine, blankets and slovenliness just doesn’t quite cut it.” Your whole body tensed up. He knew. It was him. “I just hope that this little one could help you like these two help me. I could help you as well of course, if you like. I just thought that maybe you’d be more comfortable with a--”

You didn’t know what to say. You felt that you could cry, but for what, you had no idea! Your mother said, ‘When you don’t know what to say, say...’

“Thank you. I mean it. Thank you, Lucio.”

That beam told you that that was enough for now.

Petra, as you now called her, followed you around everywhere. She would sometimes trot off on her own to explore, of course (she was adolescent and had a busy world to explore), but she would wander into meetings with you, accompany you on your duties, snuggle with you in bed, played with the snowy twins in passing, greeted everyone she met (yes, courtiers included), and SOMEHOW, she could sense when that feeling in your gut became too much. Before it even had a chance to build, she would put her paws to your knees and snuff it out... 90% of the time... Some emotions were too big for such small creatures to handle, but Petra was there for that too, and if she had to run off and call for backup, you could be sure that there was a cup of tea for you and a friendly ear waiting.

Republicans have easily maintained their hold on the House, while missteps from Tea Party favorites helped Democrats retain a majority in the Senate.

That means the two chambers of Congress remain deeply divided, with prospects for agreement on such big-ticket items as deficits, tax rates and climate change unclear.

In the House, Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, gloried in his party’s victory and laid down a marker. Saying he stands “willing to work” with his partners, Boehner added, “with this vote, the American people have also made clear there’s no mandate for raising tax rates.”

For his part, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said, “The strategy of obstruction, gridlock and delay was soundly rejected by the American people. Now, they are looking for solutions.”

‘miserable And Emboldened’: If Republicans Lose The House They’ll Be On Defense

House GOP leaders are expecting to oversee a more conservative conference next year, with many of their losses coming in seats held by centrists. That tilt to the right is likely to mean even more pressure by top leaders for members to stick together to vote on legislation that is closely aligned to Trump and his agenda.

Senate Democrats had faced a steep challenge as they fought to keep seats in states Trump won by double-digit margins in the worst battlefield for any party in modern history.

Just six Republicans were up for re-election; all but one of them ran in safely Republican states.

Democrats landed on a plan to allow each vulnerable Democrat to run an independent campaign without a unified platform. For example, Heidi Heitkamp in North Dakota could stump on protecting farmers while Joe Manchin in West Virginia promised new health protections for coal miners.

Election Senate Odds: Will Republicans Regain Upper Chamber

Democrats are narrowly in control of the U.S. Congress, but Republicans are licking their chops for next years midterm races because, over the last 30 years, the party out of presidential power has usually made substantial gains in midterm elections during a presidents first term, with the most substantial occurring in 1994 and 2010.

Given Democrats extremely slim margins of control, the prediction that the Democrats will lose at least one, if not both, chambers of Congress can be supported by historic precedents.

However, changes in the Senate have been less consistent than in the House. And given next years election trajectory in Congress upper chamber, the likelihood of a Republican takeover there deserves a second look.

Can Democrats hold their 50-50 majority in the Senate?

First, lets take a look at the collective odds for Congress.2022 Election Congress odds

Republicans only need a net gain of one seat to capture the Senate, but Democrats are well-positioned to make gains because the GOP will be defending more seats. Moreover, several seats are being vacated by Republicans in swing states where Democrats have experienced some electoral success over the past 5 years.

With the polarizing nature of the current American political landscape, neither oddsmakers nor bettors believe theres much of a chance that control of Congress will be split following the 2022 midterm elections but thats the most likely scenario at this point .

Democrats Can Keep The House In 2022 Really

Next year, promises to be tough but House Democrats can beat the usual trends of losing enough seats to hand the majority to the Republicans.

Last week, the Washington Posts Karen Tumulty asked House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer how he is feeling about the 2022 midterm election. After all, the presidents party almost always loses at least a few House seats and usually many more. Yet Hoyer insisted he is optimistic. He argued there are a couple of exceptions to the midterm rule, in particular, when the country was facing deep economic downturns. He also noted that Donald Trump wont be on the ballot and the Republican Party is deeply divided, which could dampen Republican base turnout.

Meanwhile, analysts have pointed out that Republicans are poised for a takeover of the House. As CQ Roll Calls Nathan Gonzales put it, Republicans should disband if they dont win back the House in 2022 because Democrats have their narrowest majority in more than a generation, and Republicans have redistricting and history on their side in the midterm elections.

But Hoyers optimism should not be treated as delusional or dishonest. History does show Democrats have a path forward.

Where hope lies for Democrats is in the exceptions to the midterm rule. However, Hoyers specific analysis is well off the mark; deep economic downturns are not good for the presidents party!

Rising Violent Crime Is Likely To Present A Political Challenge For Democrats In 2022

But there are roadblocks to fully enacting Democrats’ agenda. Their thin majorities in both chambers of Congress mean nearly all Democrats have to get on board with every agenda item in order to push through major legislative priorities. And without adjusting or eliminating the legislative filibuster in the Senate, Democrats need 10 Republicans to join them for various legislation a near-impossible task.

Trump Sticks To Trump Country As He Pushes For Gop Wins In The Midterms

Trump personally played a significant role in tight Senate contests in the closing weeks of the election cycle. He traveled to Indiana, Florida, Montana, Nevada, Missouri and Mississippi and in some cases landed in dramatic fashion aboard Air Force One to crowds of supporters enthusiastically cheering his red-meat speeches focused mostly on immigration and warnings about what Democratic control meant for his agenda.

His visits included overt reminders to his base supporters that they weren’t just voting for any Republican on the ballot they were voting for senators promising to back his priorities.

“They want to raise your taxes, the Democrats do, restore crippling regulations, shut down your new steel mills, take away your health care, and put illegal aliens before American citizens,” Trump said in a closing rally in Indiana on Monday. “If you want more caravans, if you want more crime, vote Democrat tomorrow.”

A year of big money and big controversy

Democrats benefited from a flood of donations to official party organizations and outside groups working on their side. Democratic candidates and their outside supporters are expected to spend more than $2.5 billion on this year’s election, according to the Center for Responsive Politics. Republican candidates and their backers are on track to spend $2.2 billion.

Fundraising in 2018 far outpaced what is normal for a miderm election.
