If I were to make a story about them, it’d be mostly about Mabel bonding with her kid who she has shared custody with with her ex husband as she visits Gravity Falls (where Mabel would be) but Mabel would be living with Dipper, Pacifica, and their kids in the newly reinvented Northwest Inn!

But as for Dipper and Pacifica, I feel like they’d be semi young parents, definitely did not plan any of their kids, and were the ones that got stuck with the twins gene (sorry Pacifica lol)

Their twins would be Isaac and Isabel Pines. Isabel got her name bc on some sort of bet/swear/promise Pacifica made to Mabel to somehow name their kid after her and Isabel/Mabel close enough. Isaac would be a kid very good at reading people for his age, but definitely care a bit too much what other people think about him, probably from all the teasing he dealt with as a kid with his little elf ears (the signature pines weirdTM trait). Isabel would be so nice both Dipper and Pacifica have no idea where she got that from, but are definitely grateful. In fact, she’s probably a little too nice!

I think at some point Pacifica gets the full Northwest estate back from Tate McGucket (probably didn’t wanna live in a huge ass mansion on his own in his elder years or moved with his own kids maybe?) Isaac is probably going insane having found out they actually come from MONEY money. Basically Louie from Ducktales lmfao. He’s also quite embarrassed a bit by his dad, who happens to substitute here and there at the Gravity Falls middle school when he’s not using his grant to do some research on the town.

Isabel is just the sweetest angel. Too sweet. So sweet she gets bullied but she just thinks everyone’s aggressively friendly or always gives them the benefit of the doubt. Good thing Pacifica hasn’t lost her edge, AND she’s not afraid to fight kids. Also definitely a daddy’s girl, still hasn’t accepted the fact she might be too big to carry around on her shoulders by Dipper, but Dipper doesn’t have the heart to tell her no so.

I also think they have a third kid but I’ve just been calling him baby Pines in my head. He’s just there to lose Dipper and Pacifica even more sleep lmfao

For the art requests thing, perhaps a Minkowski? If you need something more specific, I'd love to see S4-era haunted, guilty Minkowski (or late S4 kick-ass harpoon murder Minkowski), because I feel like whenever I see art of her it's S1-era, and as both a tragedy enjoyer and a Minkowski enjoyer, S4 is my favorite part of her arc. (or perhaps Minkowski and Lovelace...)

So how do you think the darkeyed politics resolved in WAT? I remember seeing so much criticism on it for previous books but I'm only seeing some stuff for this one.

oh bad lol. it's always bad. i think maybe it was less insanely tone deaf and more just not physically in the book for sa5 (just as bad) so maybe that's why you're seeing less of it but it's always bad. i think white fantasy authors often find examples of racism and classism or real world historical models of oppression and think "hooray hooray a fun little thing i can use to spice up my worldbuilding" and not in the real sense of like. this is a thing that happens to people and affects their worldview in a way that sometimes doesn't befit a narrative arc. i remember watching a 'what your fave fantasy series say about you' yt video by a popular fantasy booktuber years ago who got to n. k. jemisin's broken earth series (the best series to ever have done the fantasy racism thing imo) and said "if this is your fave series you probably care more about The Message than you do anything else about the book" and man. fuck off lol. wtf is that supposed to mean? like oh a black woman took fantasy racism SERIOUSLY and immediately white people send her award winning series to fucking DEI hell? just write her off immediately because theyre not used to actually examining the oppression so many of them love writing about?

i wasn't expecting anything different from stormlight 5 and there were a couple of wins (kaladin's eyes, mentioning the kharbranth murders, what seems to be irrefutable narrative destiny that points to a positive moash resolution, some singer stuff but not all) but it doesnt change the fact that people who read way of kings and expected a story that cared more about dismantling systems of power than it did about writing....how many? two full on sieges? two sieges with the promise of a third? are going to feel cheated out of what was set up early in the series.

I actually really wanted them to get like, an all brand new story HOWEVER; I am almost known as the biggest complainer that the sizzy engagement story was about Clace SO she did this for me and I’m also REALLY excited no matter what I thought it’d be haha. My cuties deserve everything in the entire worldDDDD also I can’t wait to see Simon propose LOL, like that’s the thing I was so upset we didn’t get to see in the short story!

My first impression

I think I probably ran into her first in fic but I don't actually remember anything in that regard. First impression with the comic was that this was a character with a pretty design but somewhat... confusing of a storyline.

My impression now

God her canon portrayal is so annoying and inconsistent I SWEAR. Jason and her misunderstanding and misinterpretating what's going on and immediately jumping to kill each other has happened EVERY TIME and what is the point!!! Her backstory and motivations are so opaque and the flashbacks to their time together in the All-Caste keep on dangling the promise of an interesting story in front of me and then not delivering. Lobdell and Tynion IV when I GET YOU--

However I've thought about her too much and now I have brainworms. She is the side character I have adopted as my own. I understand her better than her creators ever will <3 (I have extrapolated a lot of conclusions from like 3 panels out of all her appearances. It is working out for me.)

Favorite thing about that character

The concept for her character. Particularly as a daughter to Ducra and one of the original Untitled. The fact she's been banished from the All-Caste apparently for not being willing to give up her "dark powers" when Ducra did? That's so interesting to me. It could be such a good parallel to how Jason's moral code causes a rift between him and Bruce. Tell me more. Lobdell you will surely explore this further, won't you? Lobdell aren't you gonna-- LOBDELL

Least favorite thing

Can I complain about Lobdell again. I will not. Instead I will complain about how her little like... intro narration box? You know the thing where comics will give you a little line to tell you who a character is if you don't know them already. Hers is that she's the "last human descendant of the All-Caste" which is just WRONG? She is the DAUGHTER OF THE UNTITLED. She is like, objectively not human at this point. JASON is the last human descendant of the All-Caste, maybe. Y'know, the first human they've taken in in over a century and the first in millennia to survive a cleansing? Y'know, that guy?? Also she literally reinstated the All-Caste at this point in the timeline why are we calling her the last human descendant. She's literally they're leader right now. I'm so mad I'm so mad I'msofmkgekmreklgm

Also I really don't like that her Blood Blades draw only the blood of the guilty or whatever like it does to Artemis in RH:O #45. Or the whole capturing souls thing in #35. I hate it I hate it I hate it girl please go back to fighting people with your smoke magic.

Favorite line/scene

I overall think the scene in RH:O #35 was bad but I do particularly like her lines here.

Oh girl. Girl you are never escaping the legacy of your mother. Ignore the fact that Ducra is literally still alive even though we established that she died in the first issue and her ghost vanished back in RHatO v1 #27 I'm not mad.

Favorite interaction that character has with another

Her fight with Kori in RHatO v1 #22

I think using Tamaranean tech like this is very clever!! Essence is immortal, ancient, and very powerful, but alien tech was also a weakness for her back in Issue #7 and I think that's a nice touch.

Also the fact that Kori literally summoned her to try to talk and help Jason and they end up trying to kill each other for several pages is so funny to me. Like. In the next volume Essence also fights Artemis and possesses Isabel like... girl are you jealous that he's seeing other women? Is that what this is?

I think the thing with the amnesia arc where all of Jason's friends were trying to help him from different angles and with incomplete information and in the process fucked over each other's attempts forever could have been really interesting if written well.

A character that I wish that character would interact with more

ISABEL ARDILA. Genuinely fucking impressive that Lobdell managed to write them literally sharing the same body and have them not interact at all. I don't even know how he did it. He deserves an award. How does Isabel feel about this arrangement? How does Essence feel?? Like Issy you chose on purpose to pick up the sword again and keep letting Essence use your body in RH:O #49. Let's talk about that--no we're not going to? We have to move on and do Duela's arc and Red Hood: The Hill now? Oh. Oh okay. That's fine then.

Anyway I think they could turn the bodysharing into a beautiful symbiotic relationship if they tried. Essence/Isabel as a ship is slept on I swear.

Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character

Jerboa III/Boa from Wings of Fire. Her mother (Jerboa I) was an animus (basically a dragon that can do whatever magic except raise the dead) who created her and then basically kept editing her personality and existence for like 2,000 years so she could have the ideal daughter. Obviously this is very fucked up. Eventually Boa catches onto this, betrays Jerboa I and kills her, but not before Jerboa I curses her. We don't talk about what happened to Jerboa II. (We know that she "went wrong" and Jerboa I "disposed of" her.)

Do you see the vision. Ducra implanting "pure life" in Essence's body. Banishing her when Essence railed against what Ducra wanted for her. Essence's entire life being dedicated to this fight against the Untitled. Like we are very much getting into headcanon territory with Essence when I make this connection but Boa manages to escape her mother and also the entire fucked up legacy of animus magic and I think that is lovely for her. Manifesting that for Essence.

She's also Hornet from Hollow Knight just a little bit. To me.

A headcanon about that character

She is more headcanon than actual canon substance to me at this point. Um. She has mommy issues re: Ducra. Her banishment from the All-Caste was because Essence refused to purge the "dark magic" (The essence of the Well of Sins she carried in her, the bond that tied her to the other Untitled that Ducra had long cleansed from herself.) They'd been having disagreements since the beginning of time that just happened to be what finally made it boil over. I'm still a little vague on this but I think Ducra setting up the All-Caste and the truce with the Untitled had some long term negative consequences for the world (like how in RHatO #5 the Untitled in Middleton, Colorado had the townspeople under its thrall). Essence doesn't want to spend the rest of eternity waiting for the day the Untitled inevitably decide to take over the world, but Ducra is all 'this is your duty' about it. Also remember that the Untitled are Ducra's siblings and Essence's aunts/uncles.

Anyway Jason's admittance into the All-Caste was the trigger for Essence acting out against Ducra properly for the first time. Him being this fresh new perspective so hellbent on vengeance really helped her realize that she wanted more from her life than to be another soldier in Ducra's war against her siblings.

Do you see the parallels I'm shoving in here between her and Jason. I am just saying.

Honestly I don't think anyone cares about her enough for there to be popular opinions but uhh. I think this panel is incorrect about her and Jason's relationship.

I think Essence building the All-Caste was actually the most boring fucking direction to take her character but I can't even be that mad because she was barely a coherent character to begin with. However, her recruiting for the All-Caste... where the fuck is she gonna get these recruits for this secret old as time warrior monk sect?? Why exist at all when all the Untitled are allegedly wiped out (i.e. the entire reason the All-Caste existed in the first place)?? Escape from the shadow of your family's legacy come onnn Essence you can do it I believe in you!!! AUGH.

anon i will take any chance to talk about rebecca lewis <33 yes, i know there are more inlaws in question, and i will get to them, but i have been dying to talk about becky hehe plus there really is so much more to explore on the lewis side--naturally, since neither elaine nor rebecca have interacted with izzy in canon (insane btw).

sidenote: i kinda love how izzy only ever grew up with brothers, but gained a sister through simon (or two really, since we really must count clary, but you know, we're talking technicalities here), and that for simon, it's the opposite.

anyway, speaking of sisters hehe i genuinely think izzy and rebecca would get along well. i think iz would be a good source of.. fun i guess? for becky. like a good reminder to let loose. and i think becky would be a good resource for izzy, someone with a bit more age and wisdom that she can go to, someone who isn't maryse. and it's not like becky would be the only one offering advice. i think izzy would remind her to put herself first sometimes, to chase what she wants and to be kinda.. undeniable i guess. and i think they would laugh together and i think they would go shopping together, despite their very different fashion senses, and i think becky would maybe make some clothes for izzy and i think they would bond over the matching simon-shaped swell in their hearts.

i think becky is a common presence at the sizzy household. movie nights or game nights, or becky-cooked dinners (she might also try train some better cooking instincts into izzy while she's at it hehe), at least for a while until life things happen etc. i also think, and i know this is thinking a decent way further down the line, but i also think she'll be one of their go-to babysitters, since i don't think she'll get settled with her own family until she's in her 30s, and because i just know she'll want to be part of every second of that.

okay okay i think i need to stop talking about rebecca now or i will end up writing a novel..

i think their relationship with elaine is a lot more.. delicate. they don't see her nearly as often. because they can't be honest about the shadow world, for one, but also because i think she still has a little bit of.. not exactly loose canon, but something akin to that, in her. i think she wishes she got to see her son and daughter in law more, but i think there's this underlying anger for izzy any time they go to elaine's place, because even though it was years ago, izzy's first introduction to her personality was still through the lens of her condemning her son and kicking him out of the house at 16. and i also think izzy's seen how that reaction has affected simon, both in the direct aftermath, and in the years after he got his memories back.

i know levi is dead and wouldn't have any sort of relationship with izzy, but i do think simon would have taken her to levi's grave at some point to introduce them anyway. maybe around their wedding?

i really don't feel like there's much to say about the lightwoods that we haven't already seen, or that can't be easily extrapolated, but in spirit of fairness..

jace and simon are very much jace and simon. it's kinda hard to imagine their relationship changing much more than it already has. the comfortability and familiarity between them, the playful jabs, etc. i do think jace has probably begrudgingly gone to simon for a second (or third after clary, ig) opinion on some plans or strategies etc. he's having to make as an institute head. and i definitely think simon has tried to teach jace dnd, and had him over to play video games more than once.

i think simon and alec's relationship goes through more change than what we've been privy to. i think they have their bonding time doing target practice or over coffee after putting the kids to bed. they talk about politics and work and the sda. they also definitely talk about jace being an idiot lol

when it comes to maryse.. bro maryse is so hard for me. their relationship with her would be much closer than that they have with elaine, of course. and i think in maryse's effort to be more present with her family, she also makes a point to have a personal relationship with simon. they don't really have all that much in common, but simon has always seemed like something of a mom charmer to me. he's funny and smart and knows how to be polite. plus he really really cares about izzy. and i think it means a lot to maryse to see that. call it projection or mother's love or a little of both, but it's nice to have that reassurance that her daughter won't have to go through what she did.

eiffel in relation to hilbert is so interesting because he is both similar to first mission lovelace in a lot of ways so its his past AND the culmination of his lifes work. hes a living reminder of hilberts past not even on purpose but that makes it so he cant compartmentalize his previous mission and move ahead and not think about is because eiffel is right there and alive and so familiar but also eiffel is the carrier and guinea pig of his work and hilbert is nothing but his work its the reason he wakes up in the morning do you think about this? this thought is half finished but my brain is turning into mush good luck with your illness feel better soon!

Ive spent months rewriting why the dynamic of hilbert and eiffel with eiffel/lovelace parallels and Lovelace and hilberts previous dynamic in mind makes me insane and you pinned it down perfectly in one paragraph. That’s what it’s about. Eiffel’s too familiar to hilbert to let an open wound heal and that open wound is more dangerous left open because eiffel is also everything Hilbert works for and lives for. Normal style.

Ah number one, in which buck is a chaotic menace (aka nora verse). I have shared many many words of Nora verse and I haven't had much time to write this week so I don't have any new snippets, so I'm going to give you a tidbit instead. I haven't figured out how the scene works yet, but Buck and Tommy, before they figure out Nora's name, decide that they're going to call her ladybug, because they can't just keep calling her the baby. It's very simple and a little silly.

"It's pretty miraculous, you know."

"Yeah, it is." He agrees, looking down at the baby cradled in their arms. "We should call her ladybug."

"Oh, and why is that."

"Well, you said it. It's miraculous. She's miraculous. And, well, she's tiny, like a ladybug, and Jee is really into this show, Miraculous Ladybug?"

Number 7, single dad! Buck is the single dad!

It starts with Buck finding out that one of his hookups ended up pregnant. She had the baby, she doesn’t want it, Buck can have it if he wants. Like your basic baby acquisition plot line. Buck obviously races to the hospital and falls in love with the baby. He wants to keep her. Abby wants nothing to do with a baby she’s just here for a fun time (undecided on if this is before or after her mom passes but that’s irrelevant). So she breaks up with Buck. And he’s like hurt but this baby is more important. Only- he realizes that he can’t take her home. He lives in a glorified frat house. That’s not an environment fit for a baby. He doesn’t know what to do he has to make a decision soon, there’s no way he can find a new place to live before the baby gets released. And the 118, they're not a family yet, they still view him as a dumb kid, so he can't go to them for help, they'd probably tell him it's better to let the kid go into foster care. But he can't that's his baby. But what's he going to do? So he’s like sitting on a bench outside of the hospital and like crying.

And then in comes Isabel Diaz, she’s at the hospital for an appointment and she sees this distressed man crying on a bench so she goes over and talks to him and asks him what’s wrong. He tells her. He wants this baby but he doesn’t think he can provide a proper home for her. She listens to him talk and an idea forms in the back of her mind. Pepa has been on her lately that her house is maybe too big for just her to take care of. So she says to Buck ‘you know, I have a spare room I’m looking to rent out, I was going to post a flyer at my church, why don’t you come take a look at it?’ And Buck is like well I don’t know if I can afford it and then Isabel tells him not to worry, he can do work around the house and the yard. And he’s like but what about an infant and she just waves him off. She’s a grandmother she’s been around loads of babies and her grandchildren never come and visit her anymore.

Buck reluctantly agrees and Isabel knows she made the right choice but boy is Pepa mad when she learns what her mom did. ‘What if he’s a serial killer?’ ‘He’s a firefighter, I think I’ll be safe. He can change the lightbulbs and the batteries in the smoke detectors and the things from the high shelves so I don’t have to climb the stepladder anymore. You always get on me about that, you know?’

And Pepa is of course skeptical of this man and his baby moving in and taking advantage of her mom but she quickly realizes that it’s probably the other way around and she comes to adore Buck too

Also during all of this I think Buck is like keeping it a secret from the 118 what’s going on bc it’s still early-ish days, right, like they’re not the Fire Fam yet. So he just uses a bunch of sick time and vacation days. Sheepishly comes in to file a change of address form and Bobby frowns and asks if everything is okay and he’s just like yeah it’s fine.

And then some time passes and Eddie is calling Abuela and saying hey Chris and I are moving to LA can we stay with you for a bit? And she’s like sure but you’re going to have to share a room/the couch (I haven’t decided on how many spare rooms she has) and Eddie is like huh?? And she’s like oh Buck is in the spare room I can’t kick him out and he’s like WHO IS THAT? And then he gets so mad when he sees this stranger calling his grandmother Abuela and she’s teaching him how to cook and knitting blankets and hats for his baby.

I think the most prominent theory I’ve seen is that it’s because one of the TMI characters die. I AM a believer that none of them will die in TWP! Call me delusional but I have valid reasons!!

Clary —> Cassandra Clare’s baby girl

Simon —> Cassandra’s self insert of her husband (his last name, lewis is literally Cassandra’s married name… I’m onto u Judith)

Magnus & Alec —> people will literally burn her house down

Jace —> without him = no Clace, Cassandra sad.

Izzy —> uhm I don’t rlly have a valid reason for her, only that she doesn’t rlly have an relationship with any of the TWP for her death in this series to be impactful.

So yes I am a believer that no tmi cast mates are dying!! Stop this nonsense! No one jump me, but Cassandra never kills off REALLY main characters. Max, didn’t rlly get anything of him. Kit?? Ehhh kind of, but again, not a lot of page time for him. LIVVY is where things start to shift- but again- not a main character. And Nate & Benedict died in TID like who even cared

Okay but onto what I think it could mean. I don’t have a prominent theory with evidence or anything if such BUT I don’t think it has something to do with hell in particular. The last TEC book we got was also set in hell for a bit, and was a main focus. And we also know TMI gang LOVE hell in general (yeah… I know what you did in that cave.) and since we know in TWP Lucifer is meant to be a main villain of such —> we can deduce that something will happen in hell during twp.

The TMI cast is like the avengers of the shadowhunter universe. We know if anything bad happens there on it. So yeah, I do think whatever she’s implying it’s because there going to hell!! Bit because of any deaths <3333
