usually-- ruins whispered far more secrets than humans ever did, architecture crumbling away baring their history as they returned to the earth. there’s faded information here. amami’s familiar with the language, but the voices of the past had faded away too long ago. what was left could only be told down by human record and human memory now-- of what Was, of what Had Been.

bias sneaks into human records, of course. amami’s never been an avid reader just for the sake of reading. while he understands it necessary to sit down at a library with a book or two, he finds it best to let his surroundings do the story telling. so far, it’s been tough luck-- nothing had been left. humans had smeared all information and looted it of its stories.

until now. the research facility towers above them, old yet unyielding, holding resolute against the test of humanity. amami rubs the back of his neck, backpack slung over his shoulder. no doubt there was a reason why it was still standing, even if abandoned. was it safe? 

his hand slips off his neck to look at his companion.

“Holding up alright, Momota-kun?”

amami himself seems unfazed by the catastrophe that seemed to have taken place-- crouching down to pick up torn documents on the ground to see if he can glean any information out of them. that doesn’t mean his movements aren’t careful-- he’s still alert for any signs of danger.

“Can always take a breather before we go in deeper.”
