"I don't really need this in my life... Why don't we forget about it? (Go and take your soul...) (Go and take your soul...)
Thing is -- (Thing is -- ) Time was -- (Time was --) Part of me used to love you: Part of me still does... This light here -- Some become strangers..."
~"Some Become Strangers" by Stevie Nicks
x~x~x~x
Carewyn's dress inspiration // the other main song I listened to while drawing this
x~x~x~x
So I thoroughly blame @dat-silvers-girl for this...but while talking with her about my recent Evan Bach post, I mentioned that since Evan and the remainder of his family is in Westminster, just south of London, and Carewyn ends up settling in London to work for the Ministry of Magic, there would be a very good chance that the two could cross paths, even unknowingly.
When Evan was taking the Tube to work one day as usual, though, he did cross paths with Carewyn -- and on his end, at least, it was very knowingly. What first caught his attention was the teenage boy in his train car talking to someone on his other side.
"Ms. Cromwell? You okay?"
It was the name "Cromwell" that caught Evan's attention. He'd heard it more than once before, of course -- it was a relatively common surname -- but it still made him start every time, since it was Lane's maiden name. And according to that frankly kind of meddlesome witch Donna, Evan knew that his children had gone back to using that surname too, rather than his. When he looked up this time, though, he was confronted with the sight of the teenage boy standing on the train talking to a well-dressed young woman with ginger-red hair, sitting down a short ways away and holding her forehead in her hand.
"Mm...yes," she said lowly, after a moment. She forced a small ruby red smile as she looked up at him. "I just haven't...been in such tight proximity with so many people, in a while. It's...louder, than I remember it."
Evan blanched when he took note of the woman's eyes -- a bit sunken-in, but almond-shaped, and bright blue. However shadowed, they were Lane's.
Evan very quickly turned away, his heart racing. God, why -- why here, why her? Why his daughter? Why here, on his daily commute, right now...?
Was Lane here too? Jacob? God, the thought of seeing either of them almost made Evan feel more nauseous. Seeing Lane after so many years was a prospect that daunted Evan, but seeing his son was almost more terrifying. Jacob had always had a temper, and he'd so strangely latched onto his sister even as a baby that Evan thought it'd be likely he'd have to physically defend himself, if Jacob caught sight of him...that is, if Lane wasn't there to diffuse things. Lane had always been the one to try to calm things down...
Despite himself, Evan scanned the train car, searching for his ex-wife. When he didn't see her or Jacob, he felt the faintest flicker of disappointment, and then a wave of overwhelming relief. Not only did he hate the thought of his estranged family causing a scene...but he didn't think how much more strain his heart could've taken, seeing Lane again after so long...
"Do you not take the Tube much?" asked the teenage boy from behind Evan.
"Well, no. As you know, there are many other ways to get around. But well, considering where we're going, I figured those methods wouldn't be as ideal."
"You can Apparate with other people too, right?" said the boy mischievously. "That sounds fun."
"Mind what you say in public, Erik," said Carewyn, before adding something a bit quieter under her breath. Evan just barely picked out the word "Muggle."
Evan's lips came together tightly. So this boy was like Carewyn and Jacob, then? He was part of that...freak world of theirs too? To think that such a promising young boy would be molded in their image rather than live a normal life, same as Jacob was...
A thought occurred to Evan that made him straighten up sharply. Was this boy -- ?!
When Evan looked at the boy called Erik, though, he found he didn't resemble Carewyn much at all. Plus he looked to be 13 or 14, at least...Carewyn couldn't be his mother: she would've had to have been a mere child herself when he was born, if she had been. And Erik had called her "Ms. Cromwell" -- he couldn't be related to her by blood. If he was her son, he'd have called her "Mother," and if he was her sibling through another marriage (this thought made Evan's stomach squirm), he would've just called her by her name. And yet the way Carewyn spoke to him...it wasn't just platonic, there was something almost maternal there...
Was this boy her stepson, perhaps? Evan wondered. Had Winnie married an older man -- someone already married? She was a young adult now, it wasn't out of the realm of possibility that she'd be married...she was probably the same age Evan was, when he married Lane. But to marry someone who had a son this old already... Evan couldn't help but frown disapprovingly, imagining his daughter marrying a man a good twenty years her senior.
"Anyway...thanks for this, Ms. Cromwell," said Erik. "Coming with me to the cinema and all."
"Well, I could hardly just drop you off and leave you there," Carewyn said with a wry smile.
"I told you you could."
"You can tell me whatever you want: it doesn't mean I'll agree with it. And besides...this clearly means a lot to you. I want to be there with you for it."
The way Carewyn spoke to Erik startled Evan yet again. It certainly didn't sound like how he expected a mother to speak to her son -- Lane certainly had never sounded so casual with Jacob, and she was always much more coddling of him than Evan himself was. It was almost sibling-esque, the way they interacted -- and yet Carewyn's sentiment still came across as so...maternal, for lack of a better word. So fond and proud...
Evan turned around, just in time to see Erik's snarky expression seemed to visibly soften.
"...Thanks, Ms. Cromwell."
The boy with the curly blond hair then seemed to sober slightly.
"...Ms. Cromwell...I wanted to say I'm sorry. For what I said the other day."
Carewyn blinked, startled.
"To that biddy in Diagon Alley," Erik prompted. "You know, the one who called you my mum."
Carewyn seemed to immediately understand, and her face grew much more gentle. "Erik..."
"I shouldn't have made such a big deal about it," Erik muttered, his eyes awkwardly drifting over to his and Carewyn's reflections in the window. "I mean, yeah, she was stupid to think it, when you're not even that much older than me and we don't look a thing alike -- but well, you do kind of act like my -- like a mum sometimes -- and you were with me while I was getting my school supplies, so it was only logical for her to think it. And well...I don't want you to think I'm ungrateful...you know, for everything..."
"Erik," Carewyn cut him off very firmly. She brought a hand up and took hold of his shoulder, giving it a reassuring squeeze. "That is the last thing I would think."
She paused. Despite himself, Evan couldn't help but listen that bit more intently, even while trying to not draw attention to himself.
"...After what happened to your mother...I understand you being upset about what that woman said," Carewyn said softly. "Of course I don't think it was right for you to have sworn at her...but I know your anger came out of trauma and pain, not anything vindictive or cruel. And the last thing I'd ever want to do is replace your mother...or your father. I know I never could, even if I wanted to."
Her eyes fell on her own hand on Erik's shoulder rather than staying locked on his.
"...I don't want to be your mother, Erik. I'm very happy just being your guardian, for however long you need me. That's all I sought from the court, and that's all I want to be."
"Guardian." Then Carewyn had adopted this boy, as his legal guardian? Evan tried to envision raising Jacob on his own in his mid-twenties without Lane, and the mental image was intimidating. Being raised by his great-uncle more than his own parents, Evan would've been utterly clueless in being a single parent -- even Lane he always assumed did a better job of it than he ever would have...
Erik's face had lost nearly all of its edge by this point -- if anything, his expression betrayed something much warmer.
"You really are smashing, Ms. Cromwell," he said. "I hope you know that."
His smile then grew a bit more devilish again.
"...So...since you're not mad about what I said...does this mean you'll give me some more of those special lessons you promised me?"
Carewyn gave a loud huff. "Those 'special lessons' are supposed to be to help you defend yourself -- they're not a reward to be taken away when I'm unhappy with you. But I could very well withhold some of the rather nice Christmas presents I've set aside, if you don't learn to clean up your language."
Erik gave a loud, cackling laugh that prompted Carewyn to smile a bit more wryly herself as she got up.
"Well, come on, then -- here's our stop."
Her sparkly starred heels clapped against the floor as she crossed to the closest door. Evan watched his daughter go, wrapping her arm around her ward as the two climbed off the train and into the crowd of the underground station. Then, silently shifting his gaze out the opposite window, Evan watched the wall fly past him as the train picked up steam and sped off toward the next stop.
Because Carewyn had been focused so tightly on Erik and his mind, so as to quiet the thoughts of all the other people on the train she could've picked up, she'd had no idea that she'd been sitting mere feet away from her father. Even if she had chosen to look anywhere besides Erik, it's likely she still wouldn't have noticed him -- for she had no memory of the man's face and would therefore have likely only seen him as a stranger. Which, sadly enough, he practically was, even while they still lived together...
Carewyn was a stranger to him. Evan knew it, and he'd known it, even when she was small. He'd never "gotten" her, largely because part of him had been afraid to -- failing so badly to connect with Jacob had been so painful that the thought of messing up again, and worse, with Carewyn had made him withdraw from her, hesitant to let her in. But there had been moments, here and there, where he'd deeply regretted not knowing her. Times when she -- strangely enough -- almost seemed more like him than Jacob had been. More respectful of the rules -- more interested in pleasing others. And yet Evan knew he truly hadn't known Carewyn. How could he, when it was so blatantly obvious to Lane that she had magic, same as Jacob? And now it was all the more obvious that Carewyn was nothing like Evan. The way she talked to her adopted son -- her "ward"...it was nothing like how Evan had ever talked to Jacob, let alone her. She sounded gentle, affectionate, playful...
She sounded...happy. Raising Erik in her strange World, on her own...Carewyn was happy.
"Are you okay, mister?"
Evan looked up, startled, to see a little girl with cornrows and a sunhat sitting across from him with her mother, who had looked up from her purse with muted concern. It was only when Evan looked up at the two that he saw himself reflected in the window behind him -- and the tear that had leaked out the side of his right eye down his face.
He quickly swept it off his face with one hand.
"Ahem -- yes, I'm...fine."
Feeling embarrassed, Evan turned his focus back out the window, away from the girl and her mother.
Carewyn was happy. It was a thought that was a wave of grief that drowned Evan's soul, and yet...that wave felt strangely comforting, all the same. He stayed floating in that feeling for the rest of his commute, until he finally reached his destination, at which point he walked to work.
Once he reached his office, Evan closed the door and put on an Elvis record as he got to work. It was something he often did, to help pass the time when the day was slow and his depression made it hard for him to soldier through -- and, unbeknownst to Evan, was also what Carewyn herself did, whenever she had trouble focusing on what she was doing.
"Today I stumbled from my bed With thunder crashing in my head, My pillow still wet from last night's tears... And as I think of giving up, A voice inside my coffee cup Kept crying out, ringing in my ears...
'Don't cry, Daddy... Daddy, please, don't cry... Daddy, you've still got me and little Tommy, And together we'll find a brand new mommy... Daddy, Daddy, please laugh again -- Daddy, ride us on your back again -- Oh, Daddy...please, don't cry...'"

listening
listening to a lot of pete seeger, for my health. there are about one zillion recordings of Old Man Atom, all ever so slightly different. it starts off as a perky gee-whiz-science! tune and continues frog marching the listener along in an increasingly jaunty manner. it's
Then the cartel crowd put on a show To turn back the clock on the UNO To get a corner on atoms and maybe extinguish Every darned atom that can't speak English Down with foreign-born atoms! America for American atoms! I hold this truth to be self-evident That all men may be cremated equal!
youtube
it's very depressing to listen to early anti-nuclear protest songs and realize they hold even more true today! song's a bop tho!

continuing noirvember with The Maltese Falcon (1941, dir. Huston).
The Maltese Falcon is a 1941 American film noir in which a San Francisco private detective deals with three unscrupulous adventurers, all seeking a jewel-encrusted falcon statuette.[3] Written and directed by John Huston[3] in his directorial debut, the film was based on the 1930 novel The Maltese Falcon by Dashiell Hammett and is a remake of the 1931 film of the same name.[4][5][6] It stars Humphrey Bogart as private investigator Sam Spade, Mary Astor as his femme fatale client, and as villains Peter Lorre and Sydney Greenstreet.
i have two really snotty thoughts to get out of my brain: the modern letterboxed reviews like "i liked this but the homophobia ruined it" weak. all of you are WEAK.
and
i appreciate the work of the tumblrinas trying to queer this story in a more 2020s friendly way. however. sam spade canonically calls someone a slur for using cologne that he deems too feminine. the noir detective series you want is Philip Marlowe, who is at least homophobic in interesting and less physically violent ways.

anyway! gorgeous gorgeous movie. mary astor goes toe to fucking toe with bogey in every scene. a very frantic and frightened woman who is one jump ahead of the pathway crumbling behind her at all times. but she takes the jump and makes it! every time! except for the most important one!!!

I…can live with that, I guess? Thoughts on Evil’s final episode under the cut (aka SPOILERS)
-I’m sad in general that this show is ending and it will take me forever to recover from this show in the best way
-I guess my dream where I shoved Leland into a bathroom to keep him alive kinda worked???
-the main trio reliving their cases as they burn them was fucking adorable
-I’m gonna miss those girls so much
-the fuck are we gonna do about Lexis???? She seemed normal this season but, like, she had fangs and a tail and was born from a place tainted with demonic stuff. I wanna know how that resolves.
-okay so I guess since Timmy was baptized he can’t be the Antichrist? They were just gonna pivot and make another one? That’s fun.
-the sheer bureaucracy of the online meeting of the 60 had me cackling. “Norm. You’re muted.”
-NORM. IT’S THE BUTTON SHAPED LOKE A LOZENGE poor Leland has to deal with so much shit with these incompetent demons
-“you’ve protected Kristen for four years, Leland.” Uhm. What? He’s been protecting her? Why????? I NEED MORE OF THIS EXPLAINED TO ME????? It can’t just be the whole mother of the Antichrist thing, right???? THERE’S MORE TO IT.
-all things considered, I firmly believe Leland would not have actually killed Timothy. I dunno why; I can’t explain it. But I don’t think he’d do it. Not after that nice little drop of David’s goodness in him.
-Leland putting in earphones while creeping into the house to murder Kristen?? And singing and bopping along in the basement? Iconic. Iconic and adorable. I love him. I have a problem, I know.
-I WAS TRYING NOT TO FREAK OUT WHEN SHE CAME AT HIM WITH THE CORD (“oh shit, guess the bathroom didn’t work after all” was what I told my husband)
-but also the hilarious irony of Kristen strangling him with a red cord like that when that’s how Michael Emerson’s character kills John Locke in LOST???? Like I was stressing but also giggling like a psycho
-the reveal of the meaning behind the countdown was so on point for this show. This fucking show. (What about the bricks, though? Why did they want people to remove the bricks in Kristen’s basement?????)
-DAVID I DON’T THINK LOCKING HIM IN A CABINET IS ANY BETTER THAN STRANGULATION WITH A CORD???? IS HE JUST GONNA ROT IN THERE????
-(okay but all things aside, Leland technically didn’t die on screen and I love to imagine that he was released somehow) (o shit did I just come up with another fic idea????)
-FENNA!!!!!! FENNAAAAAAA!!!! THAT LIL SHOULDER BUMP!!!!!!!
-Kristen’s Dutch counterpart convincing her to move???? Wonderful
-Kristen and David in Rome??? With the girls and Timmy? And cool Italian sunglasses? Wonderful. 10/10. They get to be together but David doesn’t have to choose between her and God. Sure, there’s still sexual tension, but, they’re TOGETHER and not all meaningful relationships have sex as an active component
-BEN SHOULD HAVE GONE WITH THEM AND I STAND BY THIS
-THAT ENDING???? And the fact that Katja decided that was how Kristen should react on the fucking day of filming???? 10/10 no notes, only undeniable curiosity as to what would happen if we miraculously got a season 5
-that cliffhanger is satisfying but also I need a season five. And six. And seven eight nine.
Anywho. That’s, uh, about where I am right now. I’m extremely sad. I ate sushi and ice cream and it helped until it didn’t. I’m gonna continue rewatching the whole dang thing. I’m gonna finish rewriting my Leland fic. I might actually make the shirt I was joking about in an earlier post. Hell, I think the idea of a circle skirt with the map of the different demonic sigils would be amazing. And then I’m probably gonna wanna write more fanfic because I’m still in denial that it’s actually over.
But hey! In my head, Leland is not dead! That’s a win!!! Good job, Dream Kate! You sorta succeeded in protecting your favorite character!

Hey Bloz! How r u? I cannot even begin to express how fun it’s been to see ur Beatles posts on my dash. the minute I saw the Real Love demo I was like ok… she’s fallen down the rabbit hole XD I was fixated on them last year for a good few months. It was a lot of fun reading about them, watching their movies, and reading fan analyses online. There’s so much out there! And Beatles rpf is a whole world unto itself lol at first I was skeptical of it but then… I was intrigued haha
Do u have any fave songs or albums? :)
Omg hello Jess!! I miss you and it's so nice to hear from you 🫂
Hahaha YES I'm pretty deep into The Beatles lore rabbit hole already, it's been my main fixation for entertainment for the past month or so. You're right, there's just so much to dig into. Caught me totally by surprise, I feel like I'm so late to the game to just be having a Beatles phase now... I never felt extremely interested in learning about them before, but a randomly recommended YouTube video (x) about how it's reductive to blame the band's breakup solely on Yoko Ono drew me into this whole fascination a few weeks back.
😆 And hah, you must have sent this ask to me right before I deleted that "Real Love" demo reblog, because I thought I'd better delete it after I looked in the notes of the post and saw the OP wasn't taking kindly to anybody questioning if John was actually giggling instead of sobbing there (which is what I think he was doing, personally... but it still sounded like he was writing something about Paul? 🤷‍♀️ idk, doesn't need to be crying for it to still be a bit of an eyebrow raiser, imo)
I haven't actually really looked into any rpf yet, just digesting the "canon" material and whatnot (listening chronologically to their discography and not completely finished with that yet, up to halfway through the White album rn). Been watching their movies and behind the scenes stuff and documentaries (the Get Back one by Peter Jackson was fascinating even for a relatively new fan to watch, imo), reading a bigass biography about them (Tune In by Mark Lewisohn, it's like this great slowburn real-time mosey through the band's childhoods and earliest days together), and watching the occasional YouTube video deep dives (this one series in particular is p beautifully made and impressively researched and really got me in the feels regarding the shippy theories about J&P: [x])
As for my faves of their music, I haven't finished listening to 100% of their albums yet, BUT right now I'm actually very partial to some of their earliest records. I feel like some of their more normie stuff from the early 60s is actually the most fantastic fun to listen to, and Please Please Me and A Hard Day's Night might be the two albums with the most bangers that I never want to skip so far. Their more experimental and psychedelic and surreal later stuff is also interesting and arguably more unique and groundbreaking or creative or whatever, but I'm not as familiar with them outside of the main extremely famous tracks on them yet, and I'll need to finish listening and let them grow on me a bit before I can probably say for sure. However I think so far my faves from their later stuff would probs be Magical Mystery Tour, Abbey Road, and possibly the White Album (once I actually finish listening to it).
John is definitely my favourite Beatle, which was actually a complete surprise to me, I thought he'd be my least fave. And there are so many good bops that it's hard to narrow it down, but some of my personal faves so far are I Saw Her Standing There, I Should Have Known Better, I Want to Hold Your Hand, It Won't be Long, A Hard Day's Night, Do You Want to Know a Secret, Oh! Darling, I Want You (She's So Heavy) and If I Fell... hmm, I think maybe I'm just kinda a sucker for their simple and enthusiastic and joyful love songs the most, usually?
Thank you for sending me this sweet ask! I'd love to hear what some of your faves are too 🧡

Hi! I'm not sure if somebody asked you this before, but what types of music do you think the Reds are into? Maybe you have some examples of artists you think they like?
Sarge definitely likes a lot of country-western and classic rock/folk rock, but surprisingly loves more soulful music as well, jazz and blues (he wishes it wasn't called that, but oh well), and isn't afraid to give any musical genre a listen, which leads him to liking many songs that are funk/hip-hop/rap (he's also secretly a huge fan of Stevie Nicks and Dolly Parton). Some of his favorite songs are "Fortunate Son" by Creedence Clearwater Revival, "War" by Edwin Starr, "Ring of Fire" by Johnny Cash, "I Won't Back Down" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, "Twilight Zone" by Golden Earring, "Lean on Me" by Bill Withers, "99 Red Balloons" by Nena, "September" by Earth Wind and Fire, "Country Roads" by John Denver, "The Gambler" by Kenny Rogers, "The Devil Went Down to Georgia" by the Charlie Daniels Band, and "Hit 'em High" by B-Real/Coolio/Method Man/LL Cool J/Busta Rhymes
Simmons tries to play-up being a fan of classical music to seem impressive... and he DOES like it, but he's also a big dork who loves songs that are specifically made for movies (Ghostbusters, everything Will Smith did for his films, etc), and collects soundtracks for whatever he likes (he really digs musical scores, like Jurassic Park and such). He also really likes 80s bops and techno/synth music, but doesn't want to admit he's into "nerd music". He also likes oldies and "soda fountain hits" from the 50s and 60s. Some of his favorite songs are "Take on Me" by A-ha, "Mad World" by Tears for Fears, "Sh-Boom" by the Chords, "Get in Line" by the Bare Naked Ladies, "The Impression That I Get" by the Mighty Bosstones, "Rocket Man" by Elton John, "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)" by the Proclaimers, "Yoda" by Weird Al Yankovic, "It's the End of the World as We Know It" by REM, "Carry On" by Kansas, "Weird Science" by Oingo Boingo, "Johnny B Goode" by Chuck Berry
Grif will just say he likes "whatever", because he doesn't focus too much on one genre (and he doesn't want to admit he likes a lot of "oldie" rock, some pop and hippie music), and plays up liking chill zone-out songs more. He does enjoy a few weird/experimental/alt music (grunge and what-not). Some of his favorite songs are "We're Not Gonna Take It" by Twisted Sister, "Baba O'Riley" by the Who, "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane, "Sweet Dreams" by Eurythmics, "Stay Home" by Self, "I Get Around" by the Beach Boys, "I Wanna Be Sedated" by the Ramones, "If I Had a Million Dollars" by the Bare Naked Ladies, "Here I go Again" by Whitesnake, "Rock and Roll All Nite" by Kiss, "Headstrong" by Trapt, "But Anyway" by Blues Traveler
Donut does indeed love a lot of pop songs/dance music, but randomly likes more edgy stuff, but usually not too dark (some hip-hop in there, some alt rock, punk, and glam metal). Basically anything really catchy, which he WILL play over and over again when it is his turn to control the radio. Like Grif and Simmons, stuff he enjoys were in the soundtracks for movies he watched, and he has an appreciation for disco. Some of his favorite songs are "Cele-B-R-A-T-E" by Russell Velázquez, "Shake Your Groove Thing" by Peaches and Herb, "Car Wash" by Rose Royce, "Barbie Girl" by Aqua, "Dancing in the Street" by Myra, "Cherry Bomb" by the Runaways, "Walking on Sunshine" by Katrina and the Waves, "Wanna Be" by the Spice Girls, "Foot Loose" by Kenny Loggins, "Changes" by David Bowie, and "Ballroom Blitz" by the Sweet, "Baby One More Time" by Bowling For Soup
Lopez mostly enjoys more serious music, soulful love songs, and the occasional power-ballad... but he is not immune to a catchy tune with fun lyrics, including pop and salsa, and electronic music (though, he'll probably lie and insist somebody ELSE put it on the radio, and he just hasn't bothered to change it). Some of his favorite songs are "I'd Do Anything for Love" by Meat Loaf, "You Sang to Me" by Marc Anthony, "Bailamos" by Enrique Iglesias, "On Melancholy Hill" by Gorillaz, "Harder Better Faster Stronger" by Daft Punk, "Should I Stay or Should I Go" by the Clash, "Radioactive" by Imagine Dragons, "Satellite" by Smash Mouth, "No Children" by the Mountain Goats, "The Final Countdown" by Europe, "I Will Survive" by Gloria Gaynor, and "I Love You Too Much" by Diego Luna

I honestly couldn't help thinking that if your 90s anime version of Batman had a theme song, it would probably be something like "Justice" from Vandread. I never seen the anime myself, but the song I KNOW is a bop, the lyrics would make sense I think, and it just feels like it would fit the vibe? Then again, probably somthing that leans a bit more into Jazz would fit better... But anywho! I just wanted to know if you had a theme song in mind when thinking on if your AU was a real anime.
Oh my goodness, the guitars in that song? Bop. ALSO:
Tumblr media
Something, something, anger as a feeling is justice, something, when we feel angry, we know something is wrong, something, anger is the shield we use to protect ourselves from injustice, something, Jason and Harvey both struggle with anger, something.
OMG... so many bangers to choose from though. Hm. I've thought about the soundtrack I'd have for it and I think I'd definitely lean into 80s/90s rock/synths, with some 50s/60s thrown in there.
Ahhhh, it'd definitely have things like Erasure, AC/DC, maybe some Queen, Billy Joel, Elvis Presley, Nina Simone... (basically the same sort of soundtrack as Nobody, which is a great film and everyone should go watch it RN). OH, and definitely Fire Inc. who did some music for Streets of Fire (thank you to @about-faces for sharing that soundtrack with me because it's a banger).
I can't really think of one for an overarching theme, RAH. Some contenders: Hearts On Fire by John Cafferty - Like, c'mon:
Tumblr media
Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young by Fire Inc. - Yeah, it's in the context of a romance but it's also an uplifting song about rebellion and getting through darkness and inspiring hope and it's just a banger, I can't get tired of it.
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap by AC/DC - A more sinister song in regards to living a life of crime and helping people with their problems more nefariously. Also it's a banger.

How would each character react to their s/o biting them? [ Like In a silly affectionate way ]
MONCH
Peppino: Hey! Ow... He didn't like that... Why did they do that? Please don't do it again.
Gustavo: No! Bad! If he doesn't let Brick do it, he won't let his s/o do it. No exceptions!
Mr. Stick: That was weird for him. He didn't really like it.
Pepperman: OH MY GOD!! THEY'RE TRYING TO EAT HIM! HE THOUGHT THEY LOVED HIM! HE IS HEARTBROKEN!
The Vigilante: What... What the hell was that? Are they trying to eat him? Please don't. He didn't like that.
The Noise: He loves biting to show affection. He has to be careful, as sometimes he bites a little too hard. He also likes being bit. He has no idea why. He's just a little gremlin.
Noisette: She doesn't mind when The Noise bites her. However, if he bites her too hard, she'll bop him on the head (not super hard, of course). She only sometimes bites back.
Fake Peppino: They bit him! He's not allowed to bite, but they are?! Unfair! Please do not bite the frog.
Pizzahead: What the [TAUNT SFX]?! Don't do that! He hates it!
Pillar John: Whyyyy?! He didn't really feel it, but that had to hurt their teeth! The thought of the tooth pain makes him cringe.
Gerome: That was funny. He'll pat them on the head. He's not the biggest fan, but every once in a while while make him laugh.

mega projecting rn, this is
PERCY JACKSON CHARACTERS AS SONGS FROM MY PLAYLIST
aka what I think they would do for karaoke, what’s they like, and what song is them coded
PERCY
What he’d do karaoke to: Beyond the Sea by Bobby Darin. Son of Poseidon thinks water songs are funny.
What song he’d like the most: either Angry Young Man or Allentown, both by Billy Joel. Hard hitting lyrics and instrumentals to match.
What song he has the vibes of: Kodachrome by Paul Simon. Silly, jaunty, but kind of soothing at the same time. Reminds you of your childhood, almost.
ANNABETH
What she’d do karaoke to: Stand by Me by Ben E. King. She’s a romantic lady, what can I say? She’d totally be winking at Percy when she sings the chorus.
What song she’d like the most: Arthur’s Theme (Best That You Can Do) by Christopher Cross. She has classical vibes and this is the closest thing to classical as I have on my playlist. Also, I feel like she’d love jazz and this is jazz-adjacent.
What song she has the vibes of: She’s Always A Woman by Billy Joel. Sentimental, cool, but still oozing with emotion.
JASON
What he’d do karaoke to: Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler. Boy puts on a performance.
What song he’d like the most: My Way by Frank Sinatra. He feels good about himself and all the stuff he’s been through while listening to it.
What song he has the vibes of: Out of Touch by Daryl Hall & John Oates. Edgy, cool, and a bop.
PIPER
What she’d do karaoke to: Lovefool by The Cardigans. Daughter of Aphrodite thinks love songs are funny. She’s a really good singer though, so she can choose any song and still knock everybody’s socks off.
What song she’d like the most: Yesterday by the Beatles. I think she’d like sad songs (not breakup songs, more like “wallowing in self pity, wondering what happened to us” songs).
What song she has the vibes of: Thank You For the Music by ABBA. Self worth problems, putting all your value in one ability? Piper coded.
LEO
What he’d do karaoke to: Let’s Hear It for the Boy by Deniece Williams or Thank God I’m A Country Boy by John Denver. The first because he’s some sort of LGBT+ and thinks it’s funny, the second because he’s Texan and thinks it’s funny. Also Fernando by ABBA.
What song he’d like the most: Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go by Wham! He identifies with it. Also he loves the dorky Just Dance for it.
What song he has the vibes of: Telephone Line by Electric Light Orchestra. Hopeless romantic vibes right there.
HAZEL
What she’d do karaoke to: Fly Me to the Moon by Frank Sinatra. She’d eat any jazz song up, really, but this one’s got her name written all over it.
What song she’d like the most: Bad, Bad Leroy Brown by Jim Croce. It’s got that school house rock vibe that you know she’d love. And also, bar fights! Yay!
What song she has the vibes of: Put Your Records On by Corinne Bailey Rae. Happy, sends a message, gives off sunny day and Hazel vibes.
FRANK
What he’d do karaoke to: Delilah by Tom Jones. He’s belting this shit in the shower at 3 AM.
What song he’d like the most: Oh, What A Beautiful Morning by Gordon Macrae from the musical Oklahoma. He’s embarrassed to admit it, but this boy loves old Roger’s and Hammerstein musicals (The Music Man, Carousel, etc.) that go on for too long and have unnecessary songs. He thinks they’re pretty.
What song he has the vibes of: Everybody Loves Somebody by Dean Martin. Gentle giant vibes.
NICO
What he’d do karaoke to: So Long, Mom (A Song for World War III) by Tom Lehrer. He’s a sucker for old satirical songs and loves watching his friends react as he sings them.
What song he’d like the most: The Vatican Rag by Tom Lehrer. Again, because he likes satirical songs. He cried laughing the first time he heard it, having grown up in the Catholic Church (of Italy, no less).
What song he has the vibes of: Carry on Wayward Son by Kansas. Stark contrast from the earlier songs but it’s just… so Nico coded. The type of stuff you can head bang but also perform ballet to.
REYNA
What she’d do karaoke to: We Didn’t Start the Fire by Billy Joel. She memorized the whole thing and likes flexing on everybody else about it because they don’t have the guts nor the dedication.
What song she’d like the most: Fame by Irene Cara. She unwinds to this in her room after a long day. She also totally does embarrassing dances to it.
What song she has the vibes of: Leningrad by Billy Joel. A song about war, seemingly endless cycles of violence, but small victories and reconciliation.

Sam Campbell's 2016 show 'Zanzoop'.
"Kind of like Dr. Phil but hosted by a funny naked party-alien."
'Zanzoop' was a comedy show in (April-May) 2016 performed around Australia (Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Sydney). Created by Sam Campbell, Aaron Chen and Tom Walker in the collective 'Feeble Minds', Tom Walker directed and won Director's Choice Award at Melbourne International Comedy Festival in 2016.
Sam plays an alien called Zanzoop, a "semi-naked space alien, hosting a sort of chat show in an attempt to fix humanity’s problems and prove himself a worthy heir to the throne of Zymbalnation. And this is one of the more sober premises of the hour." (Steve Bennett, Chortle).
Craig Anderson, Sean Conway and Cameron Whiteford also made appearances on Zanzoop (the latter two appearing in Perth shows).
Tumblr media
The show received 4 and 1/2 stars from Herald Sun. Here are some quotes from the Herald Sun article to get a sense of the show:
'Campbell began the show by saying "there’s a lot of reviewer c--ts in tonight. Oh, Steve from Chortle is here, it’s not as funny as a picture I once saw of Stewart Lee’s elbow!!"'
'“Youth culture baby” (Campbell does the Shaka sign)'
'Autism joke, well handled.'
'King Baby (actually played by a sunscreen-smeared Tom Walker who got a Best Newcomer nomination yesterday for his Beep Bop show, 6pm each night at Tuxedo Cat).' See picture below for King Baby on the far right.
Tumblr media
'“I didn’t pay my rent because I bought too many props.” - Campbell breaking the fourth wall for the umpteenth time, he’s the John Conway of this year.'
This show also included the dip and vegetables gag, which Sam has done before: you can watch it in this video: Live at Comedy Central's 'A Night of Stand Up' at the 2016 Sydney Morning Herald Spectrum Now Festival and and on this Instagram post via thecomedyloungesydney.
Reviews of the show, I recommend reading if you want to know what the show was like (there's no videos of the show as far as I know):

Okay. Here we go. 🚀

(If you need a bop refresher)
Also, anon, you’re welcome for the fucking banger from Mrs. SquarePants.
We’ll call this the Pony AU.
You’ll see why in a minute.
Curtis had found his way, against all odds, in a city that could have swallowed him whole if he didn’t find the right people to lean on. He’d chosen his own family, his own destiny, and made his own money the only way he knew how without a diploma or a degree.
Curtis was smart. He knew how to flip tricks just like any other good street boy did — though, after a round or two of some unfavorable clients he stood firmly on his rules.
His clients needed to be handsome, or he simply didn’t want them. They needed to have nice, perfect teeth. No rings on their fingers, (though the best ones always hid them away in their pockets.)
Bonus points came into play for nice aftershave, and if they were still wearing their suits from the office.
John had aced every test, passing with flying colors.
With him, Curtis had won the jackpot.
“Ah, look at you.” Bucky whispered, eyeing Curtis who slipped delicately into a barstool beside him, late as could be, but stunning as ever.
“I’m sorry I’m late.” Curt pushed his hair out of his eyes and sighed, looking disheveled but trying his hardest to hide it. He’d ran blocks just to get there, the bar of the Plaza Hotel where he and Bucky would meet once, sometimes twice a month — depending on his travel schedule. “I had to make it home for dinner, or mother would have lost it — woulda thought the Pony killer got me, or- or somethin’. Shit, who knows. All she does is worry about us-“
“Hey,” Bucky placed a hand over Curt’s wrist, his brows narrowed. “S’alright, honey. I’d wait until the coroner came.” His tone was light, his skin just as glowy and gorgeous as it always was. He’d been drinking, so it seemed, but Curtis always liked a looser Bucky who didn’t check his watch every minute, counting down the hours until a phone call home was due to send the kids off to bed. “What’s the Pony killer?”
Prostitutes of New York.
“Exactly what it sounds like.” Curt turned back to Bucky once he’d greeted the bartender with an ecstatic chirp and his signature nose-scrunching grin.
Hey, Mikey! It’s good to see ya. I’ll have a rye manhattan please. Up. Oh! And can I have extra cherries? Like last time?
Anything for you, Curt.
He turned back again, leaning closer to Bucky. “He’s after the girls, anyway. You don’t gotta worry.” Curt squeezed his knee beneath the bar top and pretended not to notice the flinch it’d caused. “Don’t act like I’ve hit ya, man.” His hands picked at his hangnails in his lap again, feeling small. “Geez.”
“No,” Bucky turned, pressing his knees into the side of Curt’s left thigh. “It isn’t like that. It’s just been awhile since I’ve see you, is all. When you touch me — it’s just — it’s-“
“C’mon, John.” Curt shook his head, lowering his head to sip at his Manhattan without using his hands. “Don’t get all sappy on me again.”
Bucky nodded slowly, denying himself the pity party and forcing his head not to hang. “Just missed you.” He drawled, pressing his knuckle into Curt’s side. “Am I allowed to say that?”
Curtis chuckled, plucking one of his cherries off of the silver cocktail pick with his mouth. “Yeah.” He whispered, “You’re allowed to say that.”
In Bucky’s presidential suite, he knelt in front of Curtis and held him by his midsection, breathing him in, holding him by the back of his thighs, his ass, anything he could grab from his position. “I worried when you were late.” He confessed, his voice muffled into the shirt he shoved his face into.
“Why’s that?”
Curt ran his fingers through Bucky’s buttery, chocolate curls, tugging gently to pull him from his hide, their eyes meeting again instead.
“Thought maybe you got tired of me.”
“John,” Curtis warned, his tone carved with a jagged edge. “What did I tell ya about gettin’ sappy?”
Alcohol was one hell of a thing, and it seemed, just like most of the general population, the consumption of it had caused Bucky to grow more raw and honest.
“I know what you told me.” Bucky breathed, his neck craned when Curt tugged again at his scalp. “But I’m beginnin’ to care less and less what you say about it.” He blinked slowly, staring up at him from where he stayed knelt on the plush white carpet beneath his knees. “I’m a man, Curt. I’m human. I have feelings. Is it a crime to express them?”
“A married man.” Curt barked.
It seemed alcohol had a whole different effect on him.
“I — it’s —“ Bucky whined, feeling pathetic. There was little he could say back to that, because it was the damned truth. However, It wouldn’t stop him from trying. “We met in high school, Curt. We aren’t the same people we were back then. We’re from totally different planets, her and I.” He pulled Curt closer, pressing his chin to his stomach, his eyes staring upward. “She eats breakfast without me. Makes coffee, drinks the whole pot. I’m a burden to her, you know? And I’m lyin’ if I say I don’t feel the same.”
“But you got kids together, Bucky.”
“Exactly.” Bucky squeezed his eyes shut, wanting nothing more than to forget the image of his children lying in bed while their father kneels at the feet of a beautiful, charming, angelic call boy. “And at this point, it’s like playin’ house, you know? We pretend to be normal for ‘em.”
“Until when? Until they’re old enough to see the two of ya can’t stand the sight of one another?” Curt released his grip, touch trickling down further to caress the softness of Bucky’s cheeks and his pillowy lips stained a light shade of red from an entire bottle of Cabernet. “What happens then?”
Bucky turned his head, trying to kiss the pads of Curt’s small, stubby little fingers. “At least then maybe they’ll be old enough to understand, baby.” He reasoned.
“Understand what?”
A silence crept between them, only the sound of the city sirens and beeping cars zipping by muffled in the thick, heavy oxygen they shared.
“That sometimes love just isn’t enough.” Bucky kissed Curt’s sternum against the fabric that separated lips and skin. “But other times, it’s everything.”
Love isn’t for boys like Curt.
And this kind of love, if you asked him, wasn’t for men like Bucky.
Proprietors, the owners of major businesses.
A successful man.
He worked for everything he had, but had felt like nothing but a fraud for most of it. This very thing was the type of scandal that could burn everything he’d ever known to the ground.
Johnathan Egan, sole proprietor of Harmony Pharmaceuticals seen with PONY in Manhattan.
“If anything in my life feels real. Anything. I just want you to know — it’s this.”
Curt wanted to push him away, dart through the door and into the elevators that would spit him back out into the hotel lobby where he’d run into the street until his lungs bled.
But, he didn’t.
He froze instead, holding John by his cheeks, his blue eyes meeting the pair of green ones that stared at him as if he’d created this little universe of theirs.
And in a way, he had done just that.
Curt had taught Bucky so much about a world he never knew existed. Ballrooms, houses, mothers. Chosen family, love that ran deeper than blood or genetics. He learned about fashion, and what Curt would wear and what he wouldn’t be caught dead in.
He’d been exposed to a vast and beautiful night sky, having felt as though for the majority of his thirty years of existence he’d been stuck inside of a black hole — not one star in sight, until he met Curtis.
“What are you saying?” Curt whispered, his thumbs caressing the soft skin beneath the eyes that never dared to look away from him, and wouldn’t, if he had a say in it.
“I think you know, Curtis.”
“No.” He shook his head, though he knew exactly what Bucky was trying to tell him. “I don’t think I do.”
Once more fell the silence until Bucky spoke again, his chin tilted, the heat between them blazing. “I’m saying — all you need to do, Curt… All’s you gotta do is say the word.” His jaw clenched but immediately relaxed again once he continued. “We can have it all. The life we’ve always wanted. The life we both deserve.” He held Curt closer. “Just say the word.”

Todays rip: 07/05/2024
Rooftop Bop
Season 4 Episode 1 Featured on: SiIvaGunner's Highest Quality Rips: Volume AI
Ripped by Mitchell
youtube
Requested by InitialDDD! (Request Form)
Man, Scatman John...what an interesting relation he has to the internet, huh? For whatever reason back in the early days of YouTube, his titular hit song Scatman became really prevalent to use in amateur comedy videos, most notably with the "Super Mario 64 Bloopers!"-genre of video. These are actually videos that I have memory of watching - people just playing around in their childhood 3D game and making up their own little stories and sketches to the tune of silly music. But Scatman, and its less-viral sibling Scatman's World, are more than just nonsense, there's an emotion to John's two legendary songs, a distillation of raw nostalgia - one that the internet suddenly rediscovered back in 2019, and one that SiIvaGunner itself celebrated in bursts throughout the whole year, with Rooftop Bop being an absolute standout example.
Like with most memes, its hard to really trace down a logistical reason for their upbringing - check any KnowYourMeme page, and its bound to just say something along the lines of "on this date, this video/image was posted, and gained tons of attention". The Scatman-posting of 2019 was a pretty interesting case on top of that - the "AWESOME - HE FINALLY" memes that initiated it all were like a big mishmash of memes old and new. Part of the joke was in using nostalgic pieces from the old internet, the music and the "black border" template, over clips from Vine or elsewhere edited to have a positive, borderline innocent outcome, as if to intentionally turn the "Loud equals funny" format that so much of Vine fell under on its head. It's like three layers deep into irony, to where it loops around into finding sincere happiness funny - but it is genuinely still just a really good bit, the perfect kind of stupid comedy that's at once unexpected yet also brings its audience together over the nostalgia it evokes - nostalgia for two different eras of the internet, even! Despite being so core to the old internet days, Scatman wasn't very prominent on the Unregistered Hypercam 2 takeover of 2018, taking a backseat to other internet anthems like Never Gonna Give You Up in Never Gonna Give Up Mahjong and Dreamscape in How 2 Do Anything. But, as if it was fated to be, just a few months later in 2019 Scatman John would once again be made relevant - and the SiIva team was right on top of things.
A lot of Scatman John's prominence on SiIva in 2019 was, of course, on the legendary Not Funny Didn't Laugh day - on the 10th of September (whats 9 plus 10?), a series of shitposts intentionally drenched in as much irony as possible were featured on the channel, the depths of which I explored back in Sex - Steve Harvey. But beyond giving us all brain damage, the event was like a huge shot in the arm for Scatman Stocks - and just two weeks later, we would receive perhaps the best Scatman rip yet. The guy had been lurking as a meme on SiIva before, notably being in some Season 1 rips here and there - and so his return on Not Funny Didn't Laugh day felt like just one more piece of internet history to be nostalgic for. Early YouTube, Vine, and the very first months of SiIvaGunner - all rolled into two songs filled with such whimsy, yet also filled with pure emotion. Now: Does that ring a bell to anyone else?
I feel like Rooftop Bop is the definition of a "more than the sum of its parts" rip, if that makes any sense. It's an excellent melody swap/mashup no doubt, the kind that almost makes you wonder how it was even done with how authentic the violin's lead melody sounds, and the chorus returning to the original Rooftop Run: Act 1 theme with Scatman John's vocals hits oh-so-hard - its an amazingly paced out rip throughout, ping-ponging between melody swap, mashup and both at once throughout - but like I said, the rip is so much more than all of that. It feels almost like a universal experience (at least, for my generation) to have an attachment to Scatman John - but more than that, we all have an attachment to the very thing his two hits represented. Because his balance of silliness and genuine heartfelt emotion is the exact thing that made SiIvaGunner so special all the way back in Season 1, the kind of balance that has made us all smile, laugh, empathize and outright cry, althewhile never losing its core of pure whimsy. Be it The Paragoomba and the Wiggler, Aphex, Planet Wisp Mashup Medley, Turnabout Fishters, or indeed Rooftop Bop - SiIvaGunner, very much like Scatman John, has gotten so many emotions out of us, and made us all too attached to an entity others may consider naught but a silly gimmick.
It's a fantastic listen - but more than that, it's an incredible experience. The latter half of Season 4 Episode 1 of SiIvaGunner was perhaps the most exciting period to ever follow the channel during, and Rooftop Bop's unprecedented ability to unite us all through a raw dosage of nostalgic memories couldn't have come at a better time.

Hiya, I like your blog and your overall style. What music do you listen to?
Hey there! Thank you so much!! This is such a good question, and a hard one to answer at that. Good job ;)
I listen to a little bit of anything and everything. For context, I grew up in the deep south and lived in a jazz city for some time, so... some of these things are not like the other (lol).
Hozier, Sleeping At Last, and Richy Mitch & The Coalminers are my all-time favorite music artists.
Indie folk/rock, like forest ranger in the mountains vibe, this is definitely my biggest category (Hozier, The Paper Kites, Fleet Foxes, Richy Mitch & The Coalminers, Lord Huron, Gregory Alan Isakov, Caamp)
Calm indie alternative in a poetry-writing and introspective mood (Sleeping At Last, John Vincent III, Novo Amor, Amber Run, Radical Face, Daughter)
Alternative rock/indie alternative rock (flipturn, Rainbow Kitten Surprise, Florence & The Machine, Fleetwood Mac, The Orion Experience, alt-j, Greta Van Fleet)
Modern-pop or 2000s pop (MARINA, Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Imagine Dragons, Lady Gaga, Glass Animals, BøRNS, Fall Out Boy, Lorde, Chappell Roan, Macklemore, Pitbull, Rihannna)
Folk country or bluegrass (Watchhouse, Jimmy Buffett, Zac Brown Band, Johnny Cash, Zach Bryan, Colter Wall, Tyler Childers)
Female rage and hyper-pop mania vibes (also MARINA, Paris Paloma, Olivia Rodrigo, Mother Mother, AURORA, The Crane Wives, Grimes)
"I grew up in jazz culture" (Count Basie, Stevie Wonder, Sonny Rollins, Caro Emerald, Miles Davis, Weather Report)
2000-2010s radio EDM/Dance (Calvin Harris, Martin Garrix, Caravan Palace, Axwell, Empire of the Sun, David Guetta, Swedish House Mafia)
Orchestral or soundtrack for when I'm writing in my fantasy series (John Powell, Woodkid, The Amazing Devil, Hans Zimmer, Two Steps from Hell, The Oh Hellos, Cody Fry, The Family Crest)
60s/70s/80s pop bops (ABBA, Elton John, Queen, Franki Valli & The Four Seasons, Indigo Girls, Glen Campbell, The Dream Academy, Bob Dylan, The Cranberries)

Hello!!!! Feel free to answer any one/combination of these questions that you want you. I'll be excited to see your answers. Hope you're having a good day!
Reynie, Sticky, Kate, and Constance
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
5. What's the first song that comes to mind when you think about them?
20. Which other character is the ideal best friend for this character, the amount of screentime they share doesn't matter?
23. Favorite picture of this character?
Quincey Morris
22. If you're a fic reader, what's something you like in fics when it comes to ths character? Something you don't like?
25. What was your first impression of this character? How about now?
6. What's something you have in common with this character?
2. Reynie - I love how relatable he is, especially when he doubts himself, such as when he worries he's a bad person for liking the Whisperer (never mind that it operates similar to a drug) or when he fears he is bad for thinking they should cheat on tests. I also LIVE for his unhinged moments, like in TPJ when he yeets Noland's radio and later, Risker's diamond into the water. Like, Reynie, you absolute cinnamon roll, what are you doing??????
Sticky - that he's canonically very HandsomeTM and can pull anyone he wants!!! I love that for him, he deserves it. They just have to understand his love language of obscure words first...(oh and also he's braver than he thinks but you asked for my personal favorites and that's definitely mine)
Kate - Basically everything -- she's my favorite character overall -- but I think it's her positivity in the face of danger, her ability to bounce back from everything she's faced in her life. One line that still sticks with me is when Reynie says "'It's not funny, Kate.' For a moment - a fleeting moment - Kate looked desperately sad. 'Well, of course it's not funny, Reynie Muldoon. But what do you want me to do? Cry?'” It could come off as a little toxic positivity, but I feel like it's done in a way where that's just her personality, where she's not trying to influence others to act the same way, and I love that!!! I lean towards the optimistic side like her and it makes me happy to see someone like that in a book series I love so much.
Constance - definitely her sass and that one monologue in Riddle of Ages where she finally snaps after feeling excluded the whole book...not to mention feeling hurt Reynie thought she was annoying (even though she knew that was a temporary thought and NOT his true feelings)...oooof...that hurt, I can relate Connie girl :(
5. This is actually super hard!! I love music and I love MBS but for some reason I've never really associated the two together. Weird right? Here's my best shot!
As a group - Right Back to Where We Started From by Maxine Nightingale (because they need a feel-good family bop)
Reynie - Under Pressure by Queen ft. David Bowie (to describe his pressure as the leader)
Sticky - Lonely by Imagine Dragons (to describe his anxiety)
Kate - I'm Still Standing by Elton John (to describe her bouncing back from hardship)
Constance - I Don't Care by Fall Out Boy (to describe her stubborn nature -- plus I like to listen to this when I'm mad so it fits lol)
20. Reynie - if we're talking show, definitely SQ!!! I feel like they're both introspective and kind-hearted, and they would've made great bffs had things been different. In the books, to spice things up, I would've loved to see a young Nicholas and Reynie meet up -- they definitely would have been besties since as an adult, Nicholas always seems to know what Reynie is thinking. I do think they would still need someone like John to stand up for them since Nicholas had that gaggle of bullies on his back and he didn't Home Alone them/somehow persuade them to back off until later.
Sticky - For the books, a young Number Two. They're alike in a lot of ways and it just makes sense :) (not that they can't be besties at their current ages, but this is for adventuring possibilities, like with Nicholas). As for show Sticky, I think it would be highly entertaining if Jackson and Jillson had taken a liking to him while he's at LIVE. They find his intelligence and wit interesting and he's a favorite of Curtain so they start following him around too. At first, Sticky hates this but with time he starts to enjoy their harmonious presence, and how they seem to know what he's thinking. An ideal friendship? Maybe not. But certainly unique. I’d also love to see how this affects season 2.
23. Kate and Constance - the very talented @magic-swords-art drew this image of Kate and Constance after I asked and I can't stop thinking about it!!! 🥹🥹🥹❤️❤️❤️
Now you wanted to hear about my boi QUINCEY “THE COWBOY” MORRIS!!!
22. I actually don't read fics of Dracula (even though I know I should) but I guess something I don't like in actual movie adaptations of the story is when they leave him out, which is unfortunately most of them. Like hello????? You're leaving the most fun character out????!!!!! What's wrong with y'all?!?! I know it's because it's a Serious Story and they think having a cowboy will ruin that but newsflash: comedy can exist in a drama, it's been done before. Plus, the Dracula musical made it work. I don't see the issue here.
25. I saw the musical my freshman year of high school and one of my friends played Quincey. My first thought was, “there’s a COWBOY?!?!!?!?!?!” They definitely made him even more of a comic relief in the musical so that was fun to experience, but he didn’t get much more than that, iirc. Then, years later, I would read Dracula Daily and get to Quincey introduction. My first thought was, “THERE’S A COWBOY?!?!?” That’s right, I forgot this fact! Though as I read the book, I totally love what Stoker did with his character. For Quincey being a total stereotype of what a Texas cowboy is, Stoker still gives us ways to follow this character’s growth in an interesting way. Sure he starts as another suitor of Lucy, but when things get serious, Quincey does too. He actually knows what to do to hunt Dracula down (he is a cowboy after all and they did have to defend their cattle from various predators) and his role as comic relief gets pushed to the wayside so it doesn’t change the tone too much (see Dracula adaptations?!). You really feel for him and love him as the book goes on and you don’t want to see anything bad happen to this character. So tl;dr my impression is rootin’-tootin’ cowboy with a heart of gold. 🤠💛
6. So I feel like I am also the Comic ReliefTM in my friend group (though they’re also funny, I’m usually cracking jokes 95% of the time) and while that’s great, it can lead to outside people underestimating me or seeing me as frivolous/ditzy. I feel like that’s why Quincey keeps getting pushed to the wayside by movie adaptations— they see his character as not worth the trouble, even though I think audiences would absolutely love him given the chance. I mean look at Dracula Daily!! There were so many Quincey memes and love. In fact he’s in my top three fave characters (I’m sorry, he’s beat by Mina the train fiend)! So I guess we kind of have that in common. On a more fun note, his proposal was S-Tier and I hope to propose to someone, or be proposed to, with that same level of goofy sincerity. :P Oh, and I say “y’AlL” so we have that in common as well.
Thank you for the ask, Sophie, this was super fun!!

Prologue v1 - BroZone Flashback (a Trolls fanfic)
Summary: BroZone perform for an excited audience, debuting their little baby bro Branch for the first time
A/N: I am very excited about Trolls Band Together, and as I was writing a post about my predictions for how I think some scenes in the movie could happen, it ended up turning into a fanfiction! So anyway, enjoy if you read, I've got several ideas that I'm going to be writing oneshots for :D I have also cross-posted this Archive of Our Own, Fanfiction.net, and Wattpad.
The Trolls movies have so far started with prologues before we see the main characters. I'm going to kick things off with one version of that, featuring BroZone :)
__________________________________________
“Bro-Zone! Bro-Zone! Bro-Zone!”
The sound of the crowd chanting out the name of their band made four little Trollings fill with joy. This was what they lived for – singing, dancing, and sharing their talent with everyone. And so, without further ado, the quartet made their way out onto the mushroom stage, and the crowd went wild with claps and cheers. Not too long afterwards, the music started, and the four Trollings began to sing.
Taking the lead vocals was the aquamarine Troll John Dory, who wore a vest of the same color of his hair and a pair of sunglasses above his head all the time. With him were Spruce, Clay, and Floyd – purple, yellow, and magenta haired Trolls respectively who sang and danced alongside him. Those who knew them knew that the four of them were great friends, and that was a good thing, given that they were also all brothers. Everyone in the crowd clapped and sang along with them, knowing very well the lyrics of the song.
“Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk.
I'm a dancin’ man, no time to talk
Music loud and women warm, we’ve been kicked around
Since we were born,
And now it's alright, it's okay,
And you may look the other way,
We can try to understand,
The New York Times' effect on man,
Whether you're a brother or whether you're a mother
You're stayin' alive, stayin' alive,
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive,
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' aliiiIIIIIiiiiiIIIve!
Yeah we’re stayin’ alive!”
Suddenly, John Dory stepped up to the front of the stage and bent down, clapping hands with some of the nearby fans who stretched up to him. “Ladies and gentletrolls!” he announced. “We wanna introduce to you another little bro to our band!” He ran back up the stage to join his other brothers as they danced some more and continued. “You know him! Okay, well, maybe you don’t know him yet, but you’ll love him! Please, give a warm welcome to the small, the cute, Baaaaaby Braaaanch!”
In a skilled move, John Dory and Clay stepped aside to reveal a small, bopping blue baby Troll with round white glasses. He hip-hopped with his small feet and struck more than enough cute poses to make nearly all the girls faint. He was a huge star already – and he wasn’t even old enough to sing yet!
Pleased by the positive reaction of the crowd, the brothers continued to perform, making sure that each of them had enough time in the spotlight and an equal chance to sing. The crowd roared with glee by the time that the song had finished and they struck their final, signature pose with an exclamation of “Bro-Time!”
Bowing and giving their thanks, the Trollings dismounted the stage and huddled together in a quick group hug.
“We nailed it!” JD exclaimed, beaming. “What did I tell you? I knew that show was going to be our best one yet!”
“You say that about every show we do, JD,” Spruce pointed out.
“Lighten up, Spruce!” Clay piped up. “Every show is the best show if it’s done with you guys!”
“He’s right,” Floyd agreed. “It really is something great to be singing with my bros,” he said. Then, suddenly, the brothers saw him tear up, and knew where this was heading.
“Uh-oh,” John Dory mumbled.
“Here he goes again,” Spruce muttered.
“The waterworks are coming!” Clay said, right as tears spilled out of Floyd’s eyes.
“I’m sorry,” the magenta Trolling whimpered, “I just love you guys so much!”
“Yeah, well,” John Dory said, “while you’ll never see me get all blubbery about it, I love you guys, too,” he admitted to them. Then he put his hand in the middle. “Bros forever?” he asked.
Spruce, Clay, and Floyd immediately understood and placed their hands in the middle, too. Baby Branch, giggling and following his older brothers’ lead, also placed his hand in the middle with theirs and happily swung it up in the air. “Bros forever!” they cried.
They knew that nothing, not ever, would tear them apart.

Pt2 of Day 12, 1986
It was currently 11:10 of the night as Y/n and John walked their way to this party John had been non stop talking about.
To her surprise, Duff and Mandy never came back home. So Y/n left a note for her brother, telling him she was ‘sleeping over’ at Johns, which wasn’t really a lie, she was gonna crash at his place after the party anyways.
“You keep talking about this party, what’s so special about it?“ Y/n asked John.
She looked around to where they were heading, and they were getting frighteningly close to the hell house, Y/n prayed that this party wasn’t gonna be there.
“Its a metal mania party, a band named Metallica” John said
“Metallica? Holy shit I know them!” Y/n exclaimed as she turned to look at him.
John turned to look at her, surprised “You know them?”
Y/n corrected herself, “No not like i know them know them, but i know their music, they’re fucken sick”
John hummed, “Oh right, hey look we’re here!”
Y/n looked to the house John was motioning to, almost shitting herself as she saw that it was two houses down from the Hell House. She could only hope the guys wouldn’t be there.
John took her by the hand as he guided her into the house, heavy music blasting through her ears, the smell of beer filling her nose. I wonder what else they have in here, she wondered.
She quickly lost sight of John, internally cursing him out for leaving her alone.
Y/n tried to be as sneaky as she can, scanning the room to see if she could catch a glimpse of any of the five men she was trying to avoid. Specifically Slash and Duff, no explanation needed.
She finally felt safe enough to go wander around, maybe she could find the girl with the blue pills, then her night would go much smoother.
She roughly made her way to the kitchen, grabbing a beer from a concerningly dirty cooler and practically chugged it. The girl repeated this motion with three more beers.
Hearing one of her favorite songs come on, she bopped her head and mumbled to herself “Fucken love rem”
“Me too” said a voice next to her
Caught off guard, she looked to the person standing next to her, the girl smiled and responded “They’re a great fucken band. Surprised to hear them playing here”
The long haired man chuckled “Almost had to fight someone to play them”
Y/n laughed and raised her eyebrows “Jesus you must love them”
And when she said that, she realized who the fuck she was talking to, Cliff fucken Burton. Okay, she thought, keep it cool.
“Hell yea I do” Cliff smiled, “Plus this is my party, I could play whatever I want!”
Y/n laughed once again, “You’re in the band right?” she asked
“Well yes I am” He drunkenly said, his smile remaining on his face
“I fucken love your band dude, Ride The Lightning is my shit” Y/n said as she cracked open a beer, offering it to him.
“Why thank you, for the compliment and the beer” He said
“Well of course my good sir” She answered as she was now opening herself a beer.
“You’re pretty cool girl with no name” Cliff said smiling at her
“Thank you, Cliff” She looked at him, putting a little emphasis on his name, “My name is Y/n by the way, though girl with no name sounds sick”
Cliff laughed at her comment “Wow, look at me, already being recognized” He joked as he pretended to wipe away a tear.
Y/n smiled and rolled her eyes, “Seems like your song is over, Cliff, what's next on the menu?”
And just as Cliff could answer, Iron Maiden started to blast through the house, Cliff widened his eyes and laughed, “Well I guess that”
Y/n laughed as she heard a familiar voice in the distance, looking over her shoulder, she saw her brothers gold locks heading towards the kitchen. Fuck. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck. She thought.
Looking back at Cliff, she asked “Do you wanna go sit down or something?”
Cliff smiled “I’m so glad you said that, my fucken legs hurt”
“Alright then, lets go” she said as she grabbed her beer and walked out of the kitchen, turning her head to see Cliff following closely behind.
They sat down on a couch which was quite literally in the middle of the room, and Y/n hoped that with as many people as there were, she wouldn’t be spotted by her brother.
As they sat down, she saw John and some dude talking (they were also sitting on the couch).
John noticed her and smiled, “Lars, this is my friend Y/n” he said pointing at her, Lars turning around to look at her.
“I’m Lars, You guys know each other? Wait are you guys dating?” Lars said with his little danish accent. He spoke very quickly, Y/n noted.
“No not dating, just friends” Y/n said
Lars smirked at her, “Well in that case-”
“Don’t start pulling your moves on Y/n Lars” Cliff said as he looked back to the girl “I’m saving you, he’s a bit of a fucken chatterbox”
“Hey- Cliff! I heard that! Why are you always trying to-” Lars started as John cut him off
“Lars what was it that you were telling me about? Some chick you met in New York?” John said, giving Y/n a ‘Thank me later’ look as Lars put his attention back on John.
Y/n smiled at him as she turned her attention back to Cliff, “How was opening for Ozzy?” She asked, feeling a bit drunk
“It was so fucken cool, greatest time of my life” Cliff said as he smiled, laying back on the couch.
Y/n smiled along with him, she really couldn’t believe that she was right here, talking to Cliff on this old dirty couch, what fucken luck.
She turned her head to look at the crowd, and right when she was going to turn back to Cliff, she had to do a double take to see if her mind was fucking with her. But it wasn’t, Slash was staring at her as he stood behind Steven (Stevens back was facing Y/n, just for a little clarity), his eyes burning as they looked back and forth to her and Cliff.
“Shit” Y/n said aloud
“Whats wrong?” Cliff asked her, his eyes following to where Y/n was looking.
The pair on the couch looked at eachother again
“Boyfriend?” Cliff asked
Y/n sighed “Nope”
“Ex boyfriend?“
“Nope”
“I don’t believe you” Cliff sang to her as he smiled
Y/n smiled and rolled her eyes “You should, theres nothing going on”
“So why is he coming over?” Cliff told her, nodding her head towards the curly headed man approaching them.
Y/n looked ahead, seeing Slash walking over to her and Cliff. Shit the girl thought.
Cliff smiled at her before looking at Slash, “Hey man”
Slash nodded his head at him before looking at Y/n, “The fuck are you doing here?” He asked
Y/n rolled her eyes “Don’t start Slash”
Slash looked at Cliff and smirked, “Don’t waste your time on her, she not worth it”
“Well i wasn-” Cliff said, being cut off by Y/n scoffing and walking away.
Y/n pushed her way through the crowd, her frustration flowing through her body as she felt her throat closing up.
Making it to the hallway, she felt someone roughly grab her arm and pull her into a room. Hearing the sound of the door close, this someone turned on the lights.
Y/n’s face turned angry at the sight of the curly head in front of her.
“Fuck you Slash” Y/n said to him, turning around to leave. But Slash quickly closed the door back up.
Y/n scoffed as she looked to him “What? What the fuck do you want” she said, impatiently.
Slash stared at her, no words coming out of his mouth.
“You drag me in here and say fucking nothing” Y/n said, narrowing her eyes at him.
“I fucken hate you Slash” Y/n said “Why can’t you just leave me alone? Stop fucken tormenting me”
“Is that really how you feel?” Slash said, smirk on his face.
“Yea, it is. I don’t know what kind of sickly obsession you have over me, but you have to leave me the fuck alone.” Y/n said, staring right into his eyes
Slash could laugh, “I don’t really think thats what you want me to do”
Y/n could slap him, anger rushing through her body she said, “It is. Leave me alone. Everything you and I did meant nothing to me.” And Y/n meant it, this was just supposed to be some fun little thing between her and Slash, but he turned it into something fucken ugly.
“What the fuck do you mean it meant nothing?” Now Slash was the one becoming angry.
“Figure it out yourself dumbass” Y/n said as she finally made her way out the bathroom, walking to the living room.
She stopped at the couch she was on earlier, seeing John she spoke up, “Hey, I’m leaving”
“You’re leaving? Do you want me to go with you?” John asked her
“No its cool, its not far” Y/n said as she hugged him, “I’ll catch you later alright? Call me when you get home”
“Okay, get home safe” He said, sending her a little smile.
Y/n returned the smile, walking out of the house she came across Cliff.
“Leaving already?” He asked her
“Yea, gotta get home, it was cool meeting you” She smiled at him
Cliff drunkly smiled at her “It was cool meeting you too” He said as he bought her into a hug.
Y/ns smile remained on her face as their embrace ended, “Bye Cliff” she said as she finally left the premises (they were outside, like on the lawn or something).
The girls smile faded as she made her way home, tears filling her eyes at the anger she felt towards Slash. Fucken asshole.
She sniffled and wiped her eyes as she walked down the streets of Sunset Blvd, wanting to get to Duffs place already.
Y/n felt someone following her, her head turned to look over her shoulder. She sighed and closed her eyes as she continued to walk, recognizing the silhouette behind her.
“Y/n” The man called, Y/n gave no response as she began to walk faster.
“Y/n i swear to god” The voice called to her again. And again, Y/n didn’t say anything.
Y/n was close to her destination, if she could get to Duffs place fast enough, she could lock the doors.
And Y/n almost ran to get to the door, and just before she closed it, Slash’s hand slammed against it, opening it back up. He made his way inside and closed the door as Y/n walked towards their room.
“Y/n” He said
“I don’t wanna talk to you Slash” The girl said as she began to take her jacket off, looking for her pajamas.
Slash sighed, “Look im sorry”
Y/n scoffed, “Like thats gonna fix anything”
“I know its not, but i really am sorry” Slash said, his voice becoming gental
“Okay” Y/n said, pushing him away as she tried to make her way into her bathroom.
“Y/n comon just hear me out, look we can make this work” He said
“Make what work?” She asked, turning back around to look at him
“This” he motioned between them
“I- I don’t know. Slash” The girl sighed
“Just give it a chance, look I’ll take you out on a date tomorrow” He desperately said
“I can’t tomorrow, i’m already hanging with Duff” She said, trying to make an excuse
“Lets go during the night” He quickly responded
“Fine.” The girl said, turning around and walking to the bathroom, closing the door.
“Yes!” she heard Slash say from outside the bathroom, the walls were very thin here.
“Better be a good fucken date Slash” Y/n mumbled to herself.
