There’s so much to enjoy about 1.1.2 but here are some of my favourite things:
The immediate contrast we get between the lavish, detail-ridden, paragraphs-long description of the palace versus barely even a sentence about the hospital. I know we mock Hugo a lot for his digressions but the man DOES know how to be concise! He uses short sentences for effect all the time and this is one of my fave examples because it’s also just very funny in its bluntness.
The Bishop questioning the director of the hospital and saying some variation of ‘I know’ after every response. We saw it in the last chapter as well with how he addresses Napoleon but again, the sheer confidence!! The boldness!! Bishop M does not fuck around!!
“There is some mistake, I tell you; you have my house, and I have yours. Give me back my house” ICONIC ENERGY, ABSOLUTELY UNMATCHED
The Bishop filing absolutely everything under household expenses to the chagrin of Mme Magloire. On that note, the extent to which that house would fall apart without her and Mlle Baptistine because the Bishop is determined to give absolutely everything away (’and still I am cramped with it all!’)
’Expenses of carriage and circuit’ *goes on to list things that have nothing to do with carriage and circuit to the value of 3000 livres* this part always cracks me up there’s just something about the way Hugo writes which is almost tongue-in-cheek during these chapters, especially with the set up beforehand where the rich senator rants about how Bishop M is swindling money he doesn’t need for his own selfish gain. Once again, Les Mis is a comedy!!!!!!
“As there is always more wretchedness below than there is brotherhood above” what a raw line. And we’re only in the second chapter!
Also, whilst we’re here: this is the point!!!! I know we all joke about the ‘the following has no direct bearing on the story’ thing but these first few chapters do such a good job establishing the thesis of the novel. Bishop M is literally the most altruistic guy ever to the point where it borders on parody and there is still more ‘wretchedness’ than he can ever possibly solve as an individual, even just in the small town of Digne, even with donating the majority of his income to the poor and taking the principle of abnegation to the extreme. It feels like Hugo is anticipating criticism to the tune of ‘we don’t need structural change we just need more charity/inidividual change/philanthropy/etc!’ and immediately rejecting that as a solution before the novel even gets properly underway by showing how no amount of selflessness will ever overcome the power of systemic violence. (Also for more on this here is a really good post by @secretmellowblog about Bishop M but do be aware it has small spoilers for future chapters if you’re doing a first-time read and want to avoid those!)
In summary:
#les mis letters#les mis#bishop myriel#i remember reading the brick for the first time and i always just really liked this chapter#it's so rich with detail but in a way that provides so much extra context outside of the bishop himself#we're setting the scene we're delving into the social the political the economic!!!!#this is a book on an epic scale and hugo is not going to let us forget it!!!!#'give me back my house' is still my favourite bishop moment i need all future adaptations to include that bit thanks#1.1.2

GET YOU THE MOON.
Obispo “Bishop” Losa x Reader
Song-fic: “Get you the moon” by Kina (cover)
Anon asked: could you write an imagine with bishops where you are curled up on his lap, your face buried in his neck while he is working for something for the club on templo
Word Count: 1.3k
Thanks to my lovely beta reader @chibsytelford 💘
Author comments: I hope you all enjoy. Gif credits to the author.

You gave me a shoulder when I needed it.
💬: “Mommy, daddy is having a mental breakdown”.
When your phone dings with Taza’s notification, you pause the movie to hold it and read the message. This is a red code. And doesn’t matter how far you are, nor what are you doing.
You showed me love when I wasn't feeling it.
The blankets tangled on your feet fly off of the bed, jumping your body out of it to find some clothes to wear. Of course, using one of his shirt. Bishop sees it as a way of marking his territory, so you grab his favourite one. His smell on it almost dizzy you. You’re obsessed with it, and you’re not even ashamed of recognize it. Your legs move faster than usually, putting your sneakers on while you’re trying to walk towards the entrance. Helmet on and keys in your left hand, you keep the phone inside a pocket, closing the door by your back. It’s cold. It’s raining. But you could cross swimming the ocean, if he needs it. That’s love. The purest one.
You helped me fight when I was giving in.
On moments like that, you usually remember the day you met. It was a summer night in Playa del Carmen, part of the Riviera Maya in México. You found him sitting on the beach shore, with a leather kutte over the sand, by his side, drinking from a tequila bottle in complete silence. His gaze was on the horizon, watching the moon glowing in the dark. It was almost half past three am, and you went out for a walk after a long and dire day. For some reason, you felt the need of sitting next to him, taking off a cigar packet to offer him. Without looking at you, he grabbed one giving you the tequila in somekind of exchange. Looked like you were on the same orbit of tiredness and stress, so you didn’t need any words. After seeing how it dawns, he took you home. Three months passed before you saw each other again. Since then, Bishop only has left your side for a ride out of Santo Padre.
And you made me laugh when I was losing it.
The road looks shorter than other days, driving as fast as you can, to reach the clubhouse. The crew is sitting on the porch with gloomy looks on his faces, but that change when you finally come. Taza gets up from his seat, leaving away the beer he was drinking, walking towards you with open arms a little bit confused with the situation.
“I don’t know what happened. He just… collapsed”.
“How bad is it?”
“We came four hours ago and he got locked in the Templo”. He sighs rubbing his forehead somewhat desperate. “He’s with the head on the table, in his arms. No beer, no tequila, no cigars. Nothing. I don’t even know if he’s awake, sleeping or dead”.
You nod in silence cross-armed, taking off your phone of the pocket, so you can purchase for two plane tickets. When it’s done already, you raise your eyes at his face.
“Call the charters, tell them that Bishop and I have to go for four days. He’s not even taking his phone with him, and I don’t give a shit about the club while we’re out”.
Taza doesn’t need to say anything, seeing you turn over your feet and walking back to your bike. You know exactly what you have to do and what he needs. You could rip off your heart to give it to him, if he asks you to do it. He saved you that night without knowing it. There’s nothing you wouldn’t do for Bishop. And you’re probably gonna get a cold because of the rain in your way back home, but this is on the background. Reaching your house and parking the motorbike inside of the garage, you walk to the main room putting a suitcase on the bed. Keeping there clothes for both, you hold the passport and some money from the safe box to put it inside your bag. Once you’re ready and sure that you are carrying everything you could need, you continue your steps to the black Mustang parked in front of your house.
‘Cause you are, the reason why I'm still hanging on.
The crew is waiting you to leave the clubhouse, so you can have the loneliness Bishop truly needs at this moment. All the bikes roar at the same time, passing you away and parking your car where they were. Chucky palms your shoulder, walking to the car scrapping to stay in the office, till you leave. With calm steps, you go to the Templo, opening the glass door slowly. He’s there almost in the dark. And he don’t move a single inch even knowing that it’s you. He can smell that jasmine perfume he bought you as the first present, ‘cause you were wearing one of its flowers on your hair the night you met. You only use it with red codes. Taking off your jacket and leaving it on a chair, you put a hand on his nape to caress him softly with your fingertips.
“Muévete, mi amor”. (Move, my love) Whispering it, he takes it as a command.
Then, you sit on his lap curling against his chest.
‘Cause you are the reason why my head is still above water.
Tangling your fingers with his and surrounding your body with his arms, you sink your face on his neck. He sighs somewhat comforted. Your lips kissing his skin so gently and slow that you can feel his carotid beating by the pulse. His whole body starts to get relaxed, closing his eyes and focusing in every touch of your fingers caressing his, without caring about the time, the place or of the people around you. As if you were alone in the world and there wasn’t any trouble, nor danger, that could hurt him.
And if I could I'd get you the moon, and give it to you.
You don’t need to ask what’s happening to him. He’s human. He has a lot of weight above his shoulders and, sometimes, he feels weak. He needs to be saved too. So you do. Your presence is all he ask for, even if he doesn’t use any words. Sometimes he feels that he’s not good enough for anything that surrounds him. Sometimes he feels lost, blind, tired. Sometimes he just need a hug, ‘cause he’s not a superhero. He’s just a man fighting for a future for his family. Maybe, not in the correct way, but who cares? Not you. Not even when he comes home and you’re waiting him to take care of the wounds on his skin and on his soul.
And if death was coming for you, I'd give my life for you.
“¿Crees en el destino?” (Do you believe in destiny?) Another whisper comes out of your lips, getting somewhat comfy against his body, but raising your gaze to the dimmer one.
“Empecé a hacerlo cuando te conocí”. (I started to do it, when I met you). He nods leaving a soft caress on your cheek, resting it on his palm before kissing it with all the love you can feel for this man.
'Cause you…
“La maleta está en el carro y los billetes en mi celular”. (I have the suitcase in the car and the plane tickets in my phone). Those words make Bishop draw a fleeting smile. “Si salimos ahora, aún tenemos tiempo de cenar en el aeropuerto de San Diego. ¿Qué dices?”. (If we go now, we have time to have some dinner in San Diego’s airport. What ‘you say?)
“Contigo hasta el fin del mundo”. (With you till the end of the world).

I Love the Elite Kings Club, but... Part 2: Everything else
This week I have been reading the Elite Kings Clubs and I loved them, they are quite addictive, but at the same time I had some issues with the storylines. Surprise… surprise. It is going to be a bit of ramble. And SPOILER warning ahead, because I don’t know what I am going to write. This is going to be part 2 or 2, because it became really long. I am not trying to be mean, I promise. It is just when you have such a great story, the bad looks way worse in my brain and I am not actually hating on the series, it is more a therapy session for me after finishing the five books in two days so that I can move on for now and if you haven't gotten the idea I tend to overanalyse books and TV shows (I may overanalyze The Society in the future).
About the trigger warning in Malum P1, I think it was a good idea to have it and I fucking hate trigger warning, because I was really sad reading about that and from mbti I am a thinker, so it is difficult to make me feel for characters. The issue with the trigger was that, if someone decided to skip it, they basically had to skip the rest of the book and then what is the point of reading thus far? At the start of the book I though that, the trigger is about a very graphic scene where Tillie is beaten up by her father and that would have been a chapter and skippable, but what happened is not exactly skippable and a reader would not understand why Tillie and Nate are at their lowest. Having that in mind Malum P2, I think handles the possibility to skip parts of Malum P1 very well.
Deaths does not feel permanent, because with only one exception they always come back. The first time when we learned that Elizabeth and what’s her name were not actually dead was shocking. Then we had the Daemon’s chapter in the third book, which was believable enough when Nate and Bishop’s mother were the one’s hurt, but the moment Bishop was hurt, it became very unrealistic and I was sure that was simply happening in Daemon’s head. In Malum, then the sad thing happened (I don’t know why I am keeping this part as spoiler free, it just feels wrong to spoiled it) and I read what it happened, my reaction is “k. Everything is going to be fixed in the next chapter”, then Nate’s chapter which is basically the spoiler warning??? I was still “That doesn’t mean anything. Everything would be fine” and then it wasn’t. And then it was when her body came back to the house and the kings came and I am “see. Everything is going to be fine, they are just now going show Tillie that she is alive” and that never happened but I still keep expecting it and at the end when we learn that Daemon is alive surprise… not, I am still expecting she to be alive (I am currently reading Malum P2 at least while writing this part. I should be finished with it by the time I publish this) and before what’s her name is killed, she asks Tillie if she wants to see her mother or something in those lines and if Katsia is also alive I am so over the death scenes in this series, they don’t have consequences with the exception of one and that is bullshit. Malum P2 update: alright that was interesting way to deal with Daemon, but my point about the deaths not being permanent still stands.
The alliances between the characters is difficult to grasp. I think if we had more chapters from the kings, the plans and alliances would be executed better. One character is working with another, and the another is working with a third, but the third is working against the first one and at the end of the novel it would be like “JK, the two of us were working together the whole time, to screw over the second character actually and that was the plan from the very beginning and you did what we expected”, but instead of three characters, we have between 30 and 40 named characters.
While reading the second part of Malum, my heart is breaking for Bishop and Madison. I just want them happy. Is it too much to ask at this point? I know that people still have problems after they get their happy ever after, but at the same time as a reader I just want to know that they are functioning adults afterwards (I know that the last book is going to be about them, but I am just not fan of those). Examples of other series doing the same are (Michael and Erika from Devil’s night (that has not officially happened, but it looks like set in stone), Jared and Tate from Fall Away, and Abby and Jake from Runaway) feels cheap and milking it. The only time, I haven’t been pissed of when the starting couple has been fighting in the letter books is in Marked Men, with Shaw and Rule, because it sounded like they have problems, but old enough to try to fix them rather than sit around until it is so bad that you can only break up.
Some characters storylines don’t go anywhere unless they are revived in the future instalments. Aly (not sure if that was how it was spelled in the novel) kind of did go somewhere, but not fully. All we know is that Bishop killed her, and it is implied to be because of the video, but here really being told much more about the situation. The same goes for Madison’s fuckboy (Carter??? I really cannot remember his name and I don’t care enough), we learned that he was the one to send the video, He hated Madison for Aly’s death (then why send the video??? Beforehand) and then it is revisited again when Nate kills him because he didn’t like fuckboy and that entire plotline is dropped.
The generation’s thing does not work. In THE book, Madison reads that a new generation is every 4 years, but current generation were seniors in high school (18 year old), the previous generation are 6 year older (some character said that Saint is 24) and then the new generation are 16 during Malum, but at that point wouldn’t they already be high school? and the difference would be two years with the kings. And how exactly Madison fits in the generations? She and Daemon are twins, but Hunter is the same age is her (both being seniors in high school and for sure they were not triplets.)
Some other minor inconsistencies that bothered me, because I just hate myself. When Bishop gives Madison her car in book 3, it is a Lamborghini, and then in Malum P1, it becomes a Ferrari. And again, in Malum, Tillie talks abought Madison killing Lucan, but it was Bishop shooting him and then Madison and Brantley cut him a bit (to say it in the nicest way possible).
I struggled keeping track of all characters. I would try to list them now: Bishop, Jase, Jesse (why are you doing this to me), Katsia, Katsia 2.0, Madison, Nate, Tate, Tillie, original Katsia’s husband, Brantley, Bailey, Abel, what’s her name (the one that had feeling’s for Bishop and was sleeping with his father), Hector, Skylar, Saint, Saint 2.0 (next book that is going to be difficult), Gabriel, Elena, Joseph, Elizabeth, Lucan, Max, Cash, Phoenix, Chase, Raguel, Ace, Eli, Jonah, Hunter, Daemon, Madison’s biological mother, Micaela, Jessica, Payton, Carter??? (at this point if that’s not his name I am renaming him), then the four new gen kings, Spyder, Ollie (was it ollie the name of Nate’s cousin that he doesn’t like), Bishop’s lost boy cousin, Bailey’s hacker of a brother , Aly/Allie, Allie’s bff and that’s is almost 50 character (count them if you don’t believe me) and it feels like it is game of thrones, with the difference that these books are about three hundred pages and it is difficult to keep track of every single one of them. If it is made into a TV series, it would be amazing. I think that’s the positive note that I am going to end this with.
This is really long, and I honestly love this series, but these points really bothered me. In order to end on a positive note, Bishop, Nate and Brantley are amazing and I cannot wait to read Brantley’s story and the book of fixing Bishop and Madison (let’s hope that she would grow a few braincells for her sake). One of my favourite dynamics between character has been Nate and Madison, but I have been missing it during Malum P1, but there is one moment between the two in Malum P2 and I was there for it. As you can guess I loved Madison and Bishop and I also loved Tillie and Nate, all of them are so broken, but they somehow work.
I am not sorry about the swearing in this post, it needed to be said that way. I also know that it looks really bad, writing this long thing for a series that I love, but I recommend for everyone to read it and not listen to me.
... Until the next romance book

REVIEW
My rating: 4 of 5 stars ☆☆☆☆
*** This review is purely my thoughts and I did not gain any monetary incentive nor was I specifically requested to review this book, its just my thoughts and I hope you enjoy what I thought of the book***
OK I have read most of Nalini's books, I am sure if I found some of her earlier published works I would read them also, I love her voice, whether its PNR or Contemporary, her words create a world I would love to visit (and I have lived in NZ so it's like a return holiday)
so I met the Bishop family in Nalini's other Contemporary series Rock Hard, and in this new book, we meet Sailor Bishop who has goals in creating a successful landscaping business.
He is not wanting a relationship, nothing is to get in his way UNTIL one day while working on a job he gets pashed (kissed) by a redhead that 'kissed and ran'.
The redhead was Isa who after a lifetime of being put second needs a man who will cherish her.
She dreams of one day having a loving family of her own.
Shocked at her mad moment in the school parking lot one she works as a teacher is not how she envisioned meeting her match...
Thinking she will never have to face the gardener again, she is dragged into a summer job by her dragon mother, she goes from shy Poetry teacher to having to take on the role as corporate VP for her mothers business. Her main task? Yep you guessed it...Working closely with a certain hot gardener. "Swoon - Oh my Nalini does know how to write some hot yet funny scenarios.
Sailor feels a connection with that the Hot Curvy teacher he got hot and heavy with but he knows that he doesn't have time for a relationship if he wants to make a go of his business.
Both Isa and Sailor have issues of abandonment and the consequences of those feelings has them both being cautious - but at the same time, the spark they feel for each other is too strong to ignore.
As Ísa's feelings have her wanting to throttle Sailor one moment then pounce on him the next.
Will either of them open their hearts to the possibility that they have a future together or will the past get in the way?
Nalini has written a charming love story that I couldn't put down, with both the characters family situations gives an insight into how our upbringing affects us. The story is a journey of how we must risk our hearts if we want to grasp for happiness. Isa was a very complex character, she was on the one hand very naive, conscious of her looks and wary of letting people in, and Sailor who on the face of things seemed to have his life in order had deep issues that clouded his judgment.
With the supporting characters Nalini has introduced I know that this companion series to the Rock Hard books will be a favourite for years to come. I can't wait for the next book to be released!

Excerpt from CHERISH HARD by Nalini Singh ÍSA WONDERED WHAT THE HELL she was doing.
Being a devil woman, she reminded herself. Having fun for a change. Not being a grandma at twenty-eight years of age.
Still, she couldn’t stop second-guessing herself as Sailor led her out of the house through a side entrance that opened out into a small, manicured garden. “I’ll have to take off my heels,” she whispered when she saw the pebbled path snaking through the garden.
“Want a piggyback ride?” A playful grin. “I promise not to molest your thighs.”
Goose bumps broke out over Ísa’s skin, her nipples tight. Reckless as she was feeling tonight, she might just have taken him up on his offer if she hadn’t been worried her damn dress would split in two. “Maybe when we’re naked,” she said instead, Devil Ísa in full flower.
Groaning, he doubled over as if she’d punched him.
Her lips twitching despite the melting sexual heat liquefying her bones, she leaned down to slip off her heels.
Sailor waited, his hand firm around hers, until she was done. Taking the heels from her, he carried them in his other hand as Ísa padded beside him on the grass that lay on this side of the pebbled path. The path ended at a weathered wooden gate, which, when opened, put them at the top of a narrow walkway that led down onto a beach Ísa couldn’t yet see but could hear.
Her heart crashed in time with the waves as they made their way down to the beach while the mansion behind them pulsed with light and music. But she didn’t turn and run away, she didn’t stop and talk herself out of it, she didn’t attempt to be a sensible adult. She followed a gorgeous, blue-eyed man down a dirt pathway to an effectively private beach.
The sand that had been tracked onto the path was gritty under her feet, the air coming off the sea cool but not cold.
“The water’s going to be icy, isn’t it?” she whispered to his broad back.
“Don’t worry, spitfire. I’ll keep you warm,” was the deep-voiced response. “Stop here.” Jumping down to the beach, he reached up to grab her by the waist, swinging her down as if she were a featherweight.
Something fluffy and mushy came to life inside Ísa. “Here?”
Shaking his head, he said, “Raj told me there’s like a little cove area—not a proper cove, but caused by— There.”
Ísa saw it at once. A huge tree had fallen into the water at some point and smashed up against some rocks where it appeared to be stuck. Between the jutting rocks on either side and the fallen trunk was a naturally created pool. The water within it was pretty calm, and it looked as if they could get to it by clambering over some rocks that didn’t appear too sharp or slippery.
Of course, she’d be walking over those rocks naked.
Ísa looked up at the moon. Imagined it shining on the stark white of her body. Gulped. “Will you close your eyes while I go in the water?” Even Devil Ísa wasn’t up for blinding him with her glow-in-the-dark form.
A glance back. “What’re you going to bribe me with?”
Ísa scowled. “Not pushing you into the water right now.” It was a toothless threat given his muscles and her lack of them.
Rubbing his jaw, he said, “Three tongue kisses. That’s my price, and I’m not budging.”
Ísa wanted to pounce on him all over again. “Two,” she countered.
“Nuh-uh. Three. Or I’m keeping both eyes wide open.” Leaning in, he pressed his nose to hers. “I really want to keep my eyes wide open.”
And Ísa really wanted to kiss him and run her hands all over that sculpted chest. “Three,” she whispered.
