Sorry to burst the bubble for the comedy of Jumin not being able to decide whether to be polite, but in this case, it isn't so. Although polite, Jumin always speaks informally to everyone in the group since he's the oldest one, hence the 어서와 (eosowa). This first bit is also directed at the MC, someone he's already familiar with, so it's natural for him to speak informally.

It's important to note that Jumin has an uncommon speech style in Korean. The closest thing that I can describe it is that it's polished and elegant. In one of the free talks (I forgot which), his VA talks about how his manner of speaking feels unnatural at first since that's not how Koreans speak in their everyday life. So when Jumin uses the formal 군 (gun) here, it's not because he sees Saeran as an unmarried man in an accidentally condescending way. Jumin would be the last person to make that manner slip because he's well-versed in Korean formality. Rather, it's a combination of Jumin's unique speech style, how young Saeran is to Jumin, and that he's still a stranger so he has to be polite to him.

I understand all of the names and add-ons the characters call us and themselves, but this was what I was confused by

Zen, Yoosung and Saeyoung usually add an 'i' (ee) to eachother's names when referring to eachother, and that's because it's a sign of affection or closeness

And they also are able to do that because their names end in consonants (eg something ending ah or oo or ee already couldn't just get ee stuck on the end because it wouldn't sound right...right?)

Well, I was confused because there's...Saeran.

...nobody calls him 'Saeran-ee'...?

I think they call him 'Saeran-ah' instead.

이 - 'ee'. This ending is not used in direct address, but when speaking about a third party, and it implies a certain level of familiarity or affection for the person in question.

아/ 야 - 'ah/yah'. The 'ah' ending follows a name that ends in a consonant, and the 'yah' ending follows a name that ends in a vowel. You use this with people you are familiar with and who are the same age-group as yourself or younger, or if you are just so superior to the other person in the hierarchy that you can speak to them this way.

V refers to Saeran specifically as Saeran-ah, since that's the most often you've probably heard that in use! That's used specifically in reference to age in this case. Saeran is one of the youngest characters. So, you're going to see people speaking to him and about him as a younger person.

Whereas the (ee) is used when you're talking in reference to someone you're close to, like a friend! In this case is Saeyoung about Yoosung or Zen, vice versa.

Online Concert Review: MAP OF THE SOUL ON:E

Welcome to my first online concert experience! 

어서와~여기는 처음이지?

2020 is a year that gave us unforgettable memory to everyone. This Covid-19 pandemic put us through in a difficult situation. Go outside, meeting with other people, go for a vacation and many activities are halt for a moment, and almost a year just passed by. Who had thought that 2020 would become like this, when everyone have their resolutions, their plans to achieved before 2020 ends suddenly gone with just a blink. All plans need to be revised, we need another plan to survive in this pandemic, how to survive fighting the crisis, and it’s still happening.

Like us ordinary people, BTS also just an ordinary people who can’t beat this pandemic. They need to cancel/re-schedule their tour this year to undetermined time and make a new plans because Life Goes On. The fans also frustrated how they desperately wanna meet them in person and must be postponed until we don’t know when. So they made a new plans, they decided to make an online concert for ARMY. It’s such one of good news that I can take from 2020. Finally there’s a good news between all the news are talking about this pandemic, economic crisis, just bad news everywhere. BTS held a 2-day concert in early October before they released a new album in mid-November. One thing that we must thankful for, that all of this happens in 2020. We can make everything possible as technology growing so fast. Everyone can work from home, school from home digitally, we still can see each other faces thanks to technology. Likewise this concert can be held because of the technology. It’s not just us who can see them perform again, but BTS also can see us cheering for them. Eventhough the price isn’t cheap, but I think it’s really worth it looking all the props, stages, technology, and all the effort that Bighit team and BTS gave to make this concert happens. 

To enjoy this online concert experience you need to prepare a few things. First, you need a internet connection. It’ll really great if you have an good network, you’ll never suffer from buffering or poor quality image for the concert. Next, you’ll need a smartphone or laptop that meet their specifications. For additional like me, I used HDMI cable and connect my laptop to my television so I can see BTS much better, bigger, and clearer on the stage. Thankfully, all worked well until the end of the concert. No technical problem and internet problem. I think they’re already prepare well for this concert. They already expected all the traffic they need to prepared. They started with an incredible performance of ON.

It’s amazing. They started with an energic performance and all things are perfect. The props, stage, their back dancer and marching band, it makes me missing real concert really much but happy at the same time to be able see them again in a concert. Besides their group performances, they also gave us a subunit performance from vocal line and rap line, also their solo performances. It’s a meaningful concert because they’ll perform songs from their MOTS:7 album that never been perform live before so ARMY also really looking forward for this concert!! Not just that, but they also give us an unique moment in their solo performances.

Overall I really like this online concert and enjoy it. Eventhough we only see each other from screen, but we need to believe that we’ll see each other soon. Thank you for making a good concert and I really enjoyed them.🤍

2020 Kpop Recap

This year was really so strange for music too. I think everyone’s gotten used to promoting during the pandemic now, but at the beginning, it was a little bumpy.

Personal Picks

All of GFriend’s releases were incredible this year, but nothing compares to the feels of watching Feel Good for the first time after 15 months of waiting. If it weren’t for bias groups, I’d probably go with Reveal - The Boyz because I haven’t heard a song that addicting in ages (most played on my iTunes by a mile). All the tracks on My Little Society were fantastic but I feel like I have to be in a certain mood to listen to the last three tracks. I could jam to everything on Walpurgis Night anytime though. Here We Are gets my spot because the track is so well produced, their voices make me melt, the lyrics are so meaningful, and if you watched GCON, you’d be crying too.

If I’m going to remember 2020, I’m going to think of Any Song. It’s such a good track and tells the story of 2020 so well (introverts staying inside doing their own thing). Maybe I have a bias for songs released earlier because I’ve listened to them for longer, but Any Song was amazing. I also can’t think of a single album that beats #. So What was only okay, but all the b-sides were insanely good (a special shoutout to Number 1 and MinGtion)

I think the year started off slow, but there were tons of bangers released in the second half. Everyone’s probably adjusted to promoting during the pandemic. I still can’t believe we got three GFriend releases this year. After Apple, I was totally ready to call it a year once Feel Good was released but they dropped a FULL ALBUM comeback that late into the year. I bring it upon myself trying to watch all the content, but it was so worth it in the end :)

Now that fromis_9 is back, I’m really hoping 2021 can be their year.
