Have you ever had so much fun watching an anime that you can’t wipe a stupid grin off your face the whole last episode?

Seikai Seifuku: Bouryaku no Zvezda is basically a chuuni show, except all the chuuni delusions are 100% real and taken seriously (but not too seriously). The plot is surreal and ridiculous but you somehow end up caring about the fate of a “terrorist organization” made up of “Professor Um”, a Ukrainian teenage genius who talks in a heavy Hiroshima accent voiced by HanaKana, “Lady Venera”, an immortal loli bent on “conquering” the world by being a nuisance, Roboko, a very normal robot girl, “General Pepel”, a gigantic but Nice man, “Lady Plamya”, your classic eyepatch-wearing delinquent, and even the Vanilla Boy Protagonist who runs away from home and finds the family he never had in all of them. That’s not to mention the magical girl organization that fights them (because in this show the magical girls are the enemy) and all the weirdass supporting characters, including the kurukurus. And, of course, a fake city called West Udogawa that was built on ancient extradimensional ruins and runs on “udo power” (udo is a vegetable), itself trying to resist being conquered by the city of Tokyo (which has already conquered most of Japan).

It’s really unlike anything I’ve ever seen. Is it good? Well I mean, it’s not perfect. There’s obviously a lot of skin showing type stuff, and it gets episodic and slow at times. But it does wrap itself up properly, even managing a rare “this is what’ll happen next, even if we don’t get a sequel” that actually felt good and natural. Overall, I loved it.
