サーニー家の人もここ20年くらいのアニメはだいたい網羅しているほど観ていたので、3時間ぶっ続けでアニメについて語り合いました。私よりも少し上くらいの同世代だったこともあり、アニメ談義が白熱したのですが、そのなかでちょっとしたハプニングが起こりました。 『スレイヤーズ』という90年代のアニメ作品の話になると、私と王族の方とで『スレイヤーズ』の続編である『スレイヤーズNEXT』と『スレイヤーズTRY』のどちらが良い作品か、という議論が白熱し、お互いの服を摑み合いながら激論を交わすことになってしまったのです。私はNEXT派で、王族はTRY派。 私 「貴様！　NEXTのゼルガディスのカッコ良さがなぜわからんのだ！」 王族 「なに！　貴様こそTRYのヴァルガーヴの良さがなぜわからん！」 　と、お互いの推しを叫びながら取っ組み合いになり、これには秘書もボディガードも我々2人が何やら喧嘩していることはわかりますが、話している内容がまったくわからないので、我々が喧嘩しているところを止めにも入らず、「この人たちは何を争っているのだろう」とポカンと見つめていました。 　王族と『スレイヤーズ』がもとで摑み合いの喧嘩をすること自体、信じられないことでしたが、��がそれほどまでにアニメ好きだったということでもあります。ひとくちに王族といっても何万人もいるので、彼のようなオタク王族がいてもおかしくはありません。相手が王族であろうがオタクはオタクなので、私も気軽に話せたことが印象的でした。オタクは国境だけでなく、身分も越えた一例です。

Duty

You can enjoy your job. Most assuredly, you can enjoy your job.

Say, for instance, that you've been ordered to kill someone if they don't join your organization. So long as you kill them, does it matter how you do it? Of course not! You can give them the death of a thousand cuts, if you like.

Toy with them. Draw out all their pain and fear and anger—that's fine. It's beneficial, even, since all those negative emotions will give you power. Have fun! There's no reason you shouldn't.

But.

Whatever you do, don't get so caught up in self-indulgence that you abandon the job—even for a moment!—to preserve an especially tasty treat.

Yes, I understand. It's delicious to have someone around who hates you so much. It's fun to play with someone like that, to fill them with anger and rage and then turn all that around on them and evoke guilt by making them wonder whether perhaps they're wrong to hate you; it's tremendously enjoyable!

But you mustn't abandon your duty for it.

Even if you think the one you've been ordered to kill isn't powerful enough to be any sort of threat to your job's completion... don't step away! It’s a matter of commitment.

Side note: "Both of us are hated by our own races"? An odd translation. Surely "共に同族からいにきわれた" makes more sense, in context, as "I'm hated by both my races"?
