@kuronekomama can speak to temmie and bo’s friendship a lot better than i can so maybe ask her or check the comments bc she might explain a bit there!! i know there’s a whole backstory of how they met and how they grew up together & i couldn’t do it justice tbh. they’re both just incredibly amazing and wonderful and so full of life!! the kind of best friends you always wanted to have, friends that grow into family, that give each other a hard time but love each other fiercely

beach au! angst

ok SO YEAH there is angst involved in this au ): i’ve described it a bit here

essentially, i have to go home at the end of the summer and bo has to leave for competitions before then

we have a rly amazing and beautiful time together and i feel so sure about him, but we don’t know what to do about the distance

eventually we decide that we shouldn’t commit to anything serious, and he leaves for his competitions

i watch them all on tv and cheer him on, wanting to contact him but also not wanting to distract him from what i know is a rly important season and a rly important time in his life (ALSO! there is some temmie and ushijima angst going on during this too!)

ofc there’s an interview where he’s a this rly amazing and beautiful person who i don’t know (it’s a former friend and they’re totally platonic BUT it’s hard to tell bc ive been stressing)

so i convince myself that there isn’t anything and he’s moved on

i go back to school and he goes back home and we sort of try and text and keep in touch but it’s so painful

we both pretend everything is okay to each other when we do interact, but there are a lot of late nights with typed messages that go unsent

we both have photos of each other as our phone backgrounds and still have each other listed as sunshine

eventually i decide to apply for an internship back in that small beach town, even though we haven’t rly talked about it? whether we are going to get together or not, etc

but i just take a leap of faith

so one day as he’s out on the water he thinks he sees a familiar figure in sundress (yess the one from when we met) but he just shakes his head bc the sun is probably playing tricks w his eyes

when he gets back to the shore though, i’m waiting for him with a smile and some rainbow sherbert

general beach au hcs

bo and temmie are locals, best friends who have lived in town their whole lives

they own and operate a surf shop together, and both of them teach surfing lessons down at the beach

also both are professional and competitive surfers who travel for competitions and do VERY WELL

i work at the ice cream shop in town, around for the summer

next door to the ice cream shop is a flower shop, heavily inspired by my florist!ushijima hcs and florist!ushijima drabble (in my head anyways)

i spend a lot of time just hanging out w the quiet florist next door on lunch breaks, etc and we like to gossip

so i eventually surmise that he has a thing for temmie and!!! start to scheme about how to set them up

next time i see bo, i go up and ask him about maybe setting our two friends up and he gets HYPED

we get too excited in the planning and hanging out aspect to actually excite anything (“should we go to the beach to plan?” “yeah that’s sounds likr s great idea!” and then we spend the whole day at the beach and do absolutely ZERO planning)

ushijima sets up a plumeria display & temmie sees it and goes in and tbh the rest is history! (they’re married now ksjsj and i believe @kuronekomama has some posts abt her and ushijima falling in love? or first meeting?)

i spend a lot of the rest of my free time watching bo surf down at the beach and he always gets so excited knowing i’m there, maybe showing off a little more than he should

it always ends w him running up to me and scooping me up, getting me soaking wet

bo and i have each other listed as “sunshine” in our phones

his favorite thing to do is pick me up and spin me around

there’s a restaurant in town that always teases bo (and temmie) about their new partners when they go in with us

a fun couple rolls into town and befriends us all rly quickly ( @strawbirb & kuroo 👀) especially kuroo and bo

we all go to a festival one night before splitting off into pairs

that’s the night bo and i have our first kiss! it’s late at night and in the water and he yells in excitement loud enough afterwards for people on the beach to hear

there’s a bunch of kinda angsty stuff for the beach au too ksjsjs

tbh i can’t remember if i’ve answered this somewhere or if i’ve just spammed @kuronekomama ‘s messages w it,, (we developed this whole au together! along w @strawbirb ) but i’m going to write it again regardless hehe

first meeting with surfer!bo

in this beach!au, i work at an ice cream shop and spend a lot of my breaks either hanging with the florist next door or down at the beach, usually just watching the surfers

there’s one guy there that i just can’t take my eyes off. yes bc he’s INCREDIBLY HOT but also because he always seems so full of life? so excited and enthusiastic? like when he’s around the sun shines brighter and i can’t help but smile?

he’s always w this rly loud and beautiful girl ( @kuronekomama ) and one day this girl (temmie) comes into the ice cream shop while i’m working. she greets the owner, jumps over the counter and then pulls me outside for a break

we end up talking and bonding and gossiping abt how she has a crush on the florist (ushijima hehe) and how ive been basically lovestruck by this guy down at the beach.

in her head, she’s like WAIT THATS MY BEST FRIEND and then immediately starts scheming about how to set us up

cut to a few days later when i’m working in the shop, temmie comes running and ofc i’m rly excited to see her but hot on her heels is THE HOT GUY FROM THE BEACH

he careens in expecting the older lady shop keeper but instead is greeted by me, in a sundress and scooping ice cream for a customer

glancing up at the noise i did NOT expect to see the hot guy from the beach with temmie, and my eyes widen for a moment before i recover and give them both a wave and a smile

“temmie! how are you today? it’s nice to see you again! who is uh,, your friend?” i glance over at the man next to temmie who is looking a little dumbstruck himself

temmie gives bo a punch on the arm as she smirks, “i think he can introduce himself” before jumping over the counter again and heading to grab her pre packaged pint

the tall man in front of me rubs a hand at the back of his neck UH ARM MUSCLES??!!! before bringing it down beteeen us and offering it to me

“i’m bokuto, but you can call me bo,” he says, smile growing wide as i take his hand and offer him a smile of my own

“i’m kayla, it’s nice to meet you! what can i get for you today?”

his hand is dry and warm, and removing mine from his feels like moving from direct sunlight to the shade

“suprise me,” he grins at me from across the counter as he rests his head in his hands and waggles his eyebrows

i quirk an eyebrow at him but smile, bc i know exactly what to get for him

as i work, he just watches me, the way i smile at every customer that comes in and the way i bite my bottom lip trying to hold back a smile bc i know his eyes are on me

a few moments later, i hand him a cone of rainbow sherbert with a smile, “what do you think?”

he grins at me, his large fingers resting over mine for just a moment too long before he grabs the cone from my hand

“honestly, whatever you picked was going to be my new favorite,” he says, his golden eyes trained on me, shining and bright

and somehow, i feel like i’m back in direct sunlight, but i wouldn’t have it any other way
