the absolute last thing jude ever wanted was to deal with warren. he’d done his time, this was supposed to be over and yet, in a city of eight million people, who did he happen to bump into? it’s not like they wouldn’t be thrown together by the sanctum anyway, he wasn’t supposed to have to see him when there was a way out of it. but this was a game of chicken and jude didn’t move first, not to duck away, or hide down an alley. he kept head up as he walked, the black eye being worn as a badge of honor.
at the very least, he didn’t have to speak to warren to let him know that, yes, jude did still hate him. as he passed by, he shoved warren’s shoulder with his own, not slowing as he did.

bringing a swimsuit was the last thing evie expected for the middle of march, still much too cold in new york and she doubted that stockholm was any warmer, but hey. there was a spa and a pool, so why the hell not? now, she was in that pool, heated, indoors, and utterly empty besides her. she didn’t have a problem with the rest of the untouchables, but things could be loud and eventually grind on her nerves. this might be just what she needed. an endless week of partying, drama she could safely observe from the outside, and a flowing supply of alcohol. this was where her new album would be composed in no time.
when the door to the pool opened, evie resisted the urge to groan, to roll her eyes, and closed her ever present notebook. she pushed it away, far away from where the water could make the pages swell and the ink run. when she saw who it was that had come in, she sighed, squeezing her eyes shut. don’t look in the notebook. hopefully she’d cultivated a reputation that anyone who looked in her notebook might not live to tell the tale.
she didn’t speak right, sticking the pen she’d been using into the bun in her hair and leaning back. “hey,” she hummed, closing her eyes.

okay, so maybe evie hadn’t been invited to kai’s place but she never needed an invite before, so why start now? don’t wanna set the expectations too high or else kai would start expecting that from her and she really couldn’t be bothered to text every time she wanted to hang out on a whim. it’s always last minute that she goes over, when she decides that the day, or week, or two weeks without seeing him is too much to bare, even though they’ve been apart longer before. kai when he was deployed and every time evie goes on tour.
so she makes her way over, a bag of chinese food in one hand. it feels familiar, the food is from the same place her mom used to splurge on when they were kids and kai’s mom was working one of her three jobs, so he was camped out at her house. her mom had made it fun for them, she remembers laughing and sharing fortune cookies, but looking back at her old house as she often did just led to evie feeling shameful. hana had grown up there, but it wasn’t where evie came to be. and no one needs to know her as hana.
through the door to his place, evie calls, “kai! i brought food and if this door isn’t open within the next thirty seconds i’m absolutely not sharing any of it with you.”
