@double-knots​​ sent: Emerald green eyes narrow, white fur shaking off the remains of ash, and leaves; eight tails swaying as the Fox finally comes to a halt about three yards away from Raine and Eda. The tails wrap around the fox’s frame; hiding the shift from beast to human. The woman, however, takes no steps forward. Her eyes dart from them to the owl-beast and back again. It was clear how afraid she was: a predator unsure how much pressure to use in its fangs. As though she knew how fragile Raine was now, as though she had an idea of what had happened to them, and she wasn’t sure if she would just make it worse.

However, Xia slowly closer, and opens her arms to Raine. Allowing them to decide if they wanted to run into her open maw or retreat towards something less eternal than she.

Everything within them seemed to a c h e.

As the filth of Belos continued to disperse, either in billowing clouds of rotted dust or washed away by the searing waters of the Isle’s boiling rain, the moment of calm after the storm had given their exhaustion the opportunity to sink it’s fangs into their very core. Limbs felt heavy and movements sluggish even with Eda’s assistance at their side. Raine would have done anything in that moment for a moment to simply rest.

But, Eda’s steps slowed to a stop, halting their own as heavy footsteps seemed to shake the ground beneath them. Blinking behind cracked lenses, tired forest green eyes rose up to look at the large white fox.

Xia.

Before she even began her shift, Raine lightly straightened themself up, hand grasping tightly at Eda’s shoulders to further assist them. If they were honest, the bard had wondered where she had gone, wondered briefly during their time pinned to the wall of the once Emperor’s Castle what she would be doing. It had been such a brief time since they had left her side to search for a way to help the others from the Collector, and yet so much had happened. So much had changed.

A tightness pulled at their chest as the smaller woman held her arms out to them. But, it wasn’t a demand. It was a gentle invitation, a tentative question if they wanted to return to her... They could see it in the flickering of those stunning green eyes they had always admired, in the way she held herself as if her confidence was cracked yet still only just balancing together to stay in one piece.

For a moment, Raine held on to Eda a little bit tighter, their weight shifting onto their feet. They knew if they so chose a life of familiarity, Xia wouldn’t have stopped them... So, that’s what they chose. Glancing up at the witch beside them, the bard offered a small, reassuring smile, releasing Eda as they took an uneven step forward. Each one following were just as clumsy, just as unsteady, but Raine hardly cared. Quickly closing the space between them, arms tightly wrapped themselves around Xia.

She was their life of familiarity, their path of comfort and security. She was the one they wanted.

@double-knots​ sent: Xia simply taps Raine's tail, with a small smirk. "Still can't get rid of it, hm?" She teases, "Should I expect the kits to surpass your ability before long?" ( hi take a teasing wife <3 )

As light and gentle as the woman’s tap had been, it still conjured a faint jolt through their spine, startling the former bard. Pointed ears lightly droop at her teasing, their tail in question flicking ever so slightly. “Dear, I’m sure the kits have surpassed my abilities the very moment they opened their eyes.” Raine tossed back, their own playful smirk curling up the corners of their lips.

Although, despite their shared, teasing remarks, they were certain the two of them both new it was hardly far from the truth. Even in the time they had to discover their new abilities after accepting Xia’s tail to forever live at her side, Raine still struggled to harness their full potential. Of course, after a life time of performing magic as they had, could anyone really blame them? It was, in a manner of speaking, unnatural to them.

But, on the other hand, it certainly the worst thing to have a tail.

It wasn’t something uncommon or even unusual for Xia to take the lead in these situations, yet it always managed to caught the bard by surprise no matter how often it occurred. Lips grinning as her hand pressed against their chest, Raine made no effort to brace for the gentle push nor try to resist it. A soft grunt slipped through them as their back pressed into the wall, head lightly thumping against it. But, the witch paid little mind to that.

There were far more important matters to be concerned off than a light bump to the head. Like the soft yet eager touch of Xia’s lips against their own, drawing out a tender sigh as an arm slipped around her waist to hold her close, the other gently cupping her jaw. It’d felt like eons had passed since they had been able to feel her warmth, to allow their thoughts to be wholly consumed by the mere presence of her with them. It was comforting as it was exhilarating. Like a breath of air after days spent in a smothering cave. It was familiar and loving; It was h o m e.

A small tear gathered at the corner of their eye as the feel settled on their shoulders, their lips curling ever so slightly against Xia’s in a barely contained smile as Raine melted into her kiss.

A soft smile accompanied by an equally soft chuckle left the former head witch, a warm fondness apparent in their features. “Ha, where to even start with those three,” Raine hummed, fingers lightly scratching at the underside of their chin. “Well, there’s Jade, Bao, and Yue-Yan; triplets that, I admit, I hadn’t really been expecting.” A sheepish confession made by the bard, for despite the discussions shared between them and Xia when they had been little more than a thought, Raine still hadn’t truly been expecting the two of them to end up with three little ones.

“As much of a surprise as they all were, though, I wouldn’t change a single thing. I really couldn’t be happier with our three little kits.” With their shoulders back and their chest nearly puffed out, every word was spoken with pride and love for the family they had with Xia.

But, for a flickering moment, with a quick glance to the side, Raine leaned forward ever so slightly, voice lowered into hushed tones. “Although all three are about as much of a handful as their mother. Don’t tell her I said that, though,” they grinned, a faint wink offered in jest.

"Mine~" She purrs, her muzzle nuzzling into the space between their chin and shoulder as her arms wrap around their middle, and legs too just for good measure. A sharp gasp falls from the bard’s lips at the sudden sting of teeth at their shoulder. A sound that’s chased after by a soft, strained groan. Even after they were released from the demon’s biting hold, the small indents in their skin burned, soothed for little more than a moment at the soft kisses that brushed over the tender spot. It brought a shiver that crawled down their spine, a quiet whimper from their throat.

An addicting sensation of pain that sat at the very cusp of discomfort, yet not so much so that it took away from the trembling pleasure that twisted their senses. A pointed ear flickers ever so slightly at the purring words of their beloved, throat lightly bobbing as Raine attempted to clear their throat. “Y-Yours,” they rasped out in agreement, head tilting to the side and eyes sliding shut as Xia nuzzled against their neck, wordlessly asking for more. “Always yours.”
