❝ — again. ❞
calloused palms push against the grass as she refuses the outstretched hand and scampers to her feet again. if there was one thing the young assisstente hated more than the training, it was the losing. that feeling of helplessness had been her driving force ever since she accepted the recruitment. what else did she have? where else could she go?
that didn’t mean she made it easy - for herself or for federico. the florentine sun beat down on them and obstinately she refused to wipe the sweat from her brow, her hands rise at the ready for his next assault. certainly there were better ways to beat the heat away, better than this. she could be tucked away in the auditore library, or helping petruccio with his secret project, or even sneaking somewhere she shouldn’t be with ezio. but she had made a choice, and it was one she needed to honor. for her father, at least.
that is where they agreed. honoring their fathers. it’s why spending most of her time with federico was not the worst. it could be .. but he wasn’t. it was almost irritating how he understood without asking, and her without speaking. when they sparred, she learned, ( she would never admit it out loud ) and she got better. rose higher in the ranks. though it seems, not high enough to beat him. she couldn’t have that.
this time she would win.

𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄: 𝐕𝐈𝐓𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐈𝐀 𝐀𝐆𝐋𝐈 𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐀𝐒𝐒𝐈𝐍𝐈 ( assassin’s creed: renaissance )
born into the creed, lara’s only memories of home are of the disappearing manor as her father took her far, far away. the safety of the english countryside could protect them no longer after the french templars hunted down her mother and eliminated her for her betrayal. seeking asylum in italia, aided by the brotherhood there, lara grows up the daughter of an english scholar hidden within firenze’s luscious noble class. for the longest time, the truth was kept from her. but in secret the templars had began carefully breaking up the brotherhood in italy, one by one, and starting by the fringes. the english scholar, so far away from home.
at age eleven, lara finds herself orphaned and alone. fallen off the grid, it’s believed the last of the crofts has been eliminated as well, when in reality her sponsorship is taken on by the auditores. at first, she’s reluctant to accept their help and kindness, reticent and cold to all their advances, except maybe for the youngest of the household, claudia and petruccio who were very little at the time. soon, her assassin training is undertaken by the auditore patriarch, again despite lara’s reluctance. all she’s ever known from the creed was pain, and it continues to be so as she watches in horror as the family who’d taken her in in her time of need is brought down by templar conspirators, and lara must once more disappear into the crowds, to become once more a ghost of the crofts haunting the streets and cities of italia.
in italia, lara is a member of the theives and mercenaries guild most notably, but also finds herself entertaining patronage of arts both conventional and otherwise. she’s also a known ally and protector of the courtesan guild. eventually, lara’s role in the reestablishment of the brotherhood in roma is notable, and she fully takes on her role as an assassin to build back the brotherhood in england and return home once and for all.
