The exceptions to the “Main Character’s first love” cliché that I usually hate:

Yeah, surprising based on how much I despise a certain example.

Marinette DuPain-Chang/LadyBug-x-Adrien Agreste/Chat Noir (Miraculous: Tales of Such and Such): It’s the driving force of the series.

Donatello-x-April O’neil (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2012-2017): The first time I took an actual turtle romance seriously. There were rough patches (i.e. April “quitting” the turtles, the Capritello triangle, and the mixed-signals), but it seemed like it could have worked, even though the show didn’t end with anything definite.

Marco Diaz-x-Jackie Lynn Thomas (Star Vs. the Forces of Evil): At first, I thought very little about them during season 1; season 2 made me a believer (then backstabbed me), and season 3 poured salt in the wound. I’m pretty sure that Jackie’s next appearance would be used to drive the point that she ain’t going to take Marco back (bonus points if she’s with someone else).

Timmy Turner-x-Trixie Tang (The Fairly Oddparents): The early seasons was more open to this, but Trixie was flanderized and then turned into a non-entity.

Lee Ping-x-Tina Kwee (Detentionaire): They had a good rapport outside of their romance issues with other people. They finally got together when there was an absolute certainty that no one else was in the way.

Mason “Dipper” Pines-x-Wendy Corduroy (Gravity Falls): I still like the idea of the two, especially after the hat-swap.

Gumball Waterson-x-Penny Fitzgerald (The Amazing World of Gumball): Their relationship changed the status quo, and they’re so sweet! If only the show decided to show them more often...
