distrust continued to ring through his interactions with american hunters and their contacts. as far as his interactions with castiel and the winchesters, toni going off script with sam had really scuppered any chance at not needing to throughly prove their trustworthiness. while mick had tried to prove over and over that he was there to be of assistance, his eyes had been opened to the kind of organization he had dedicated his life to. upholding the code was not always the right move and his interactions with sam and dean had led him to make a different decision when renny was killed.

he knew that decision would have cost him his life so he went into hiding. when he got word that the american hunters had rallied against the men of letters, he felt safe enough to come out of hiding. the winchesters and castiel were the only ones he could begin to trust. hands in the air as a voice rang out below him, mick's wary eyes met castiel's below his current stance on the balcony at the entrance of the kansas bunker. ❝ they told you i was dead didn't they? i'm not. i have been boarded up in a bunker in montana to keep it that way. ❞

he still wasn't quite used to being an ally, out of the open and out of the british men of letters. though he had proven to himself through his time since then that he was equipped to be a field agent, it nearly felt like an episode of the twilight zone to have a case being brought to his attention. ❝ alright then. you have any news articles that support your suspicions? what are the charmed college students doing? ❞ witches were not his favorite, particularly after getting hexed himself. as the master of sleight of hand, it was rather humiliating that he hadn't noticed. ❝ or is this one of those, i'll fill you in on the way situations? ❞

hunting since azrael had lost her powers had been much harder than they anticipated. now that azrael and mick were officially dating, he knew that her anxiety of him getting hurt on the job was through the roof. many nights had been spent assuring her that she wasn't any less valuable or important without her powers. they weren't able to be healed immediately, but with three of them the majority of the time, he assured her that hunting related injuries were far less likely and they would always find a way to the hospital if needed. now, they were trying to infiltrate a rich witch party and were nearly caught snooping upstairs for more information on the coven's seemingly ritualistic killings.

pulled in for a kiss, mick returned it in earnest, his hands finding purchase around her waist. they were easily ignored in the dark hallway as a pair of clearly drunk partygoers passed them on the way to the expansive upstairs bathroom. always impressed by her wit and quick thinking, azrael was met with a look of awe and adoration when she pulled back. hands remaining on her hips, he tried to strategize their next move. ❝ check your purse for a hex bag. there's a couple more rooms for us to check out. i'll text jessica to see if she's overheard anything in the ballroom yet. ❞

while he could try to deny that her words melted his heart, his cheeks were telling a different story. with a gentle smile, his hand took hers with a reassuring squeeze. ❝ and i'm better now that i'm back. why don't we go do something around town? take our mind off of what's going on. the bunker air can feel... suffocating. ❞ though it had a great circulation system, especially since he had worked on upgrading it, nothing beat the fresh air and the warming sun.

he would have never guessed himself to be ticklish, but he could feel the sensation as azrael's fingertips gently traced along his chest. this kind of intimacy and vulnerability was something he'd never allowed himself to have. mick hadn't been celibate for his life by any means, but relationships had been off limits in his mind. gentle moments weren't present in a life within the men of letters either.

a gentle smile played at his lips. here in the bunker with her, he felt at peace for what would truly be the first time in his life. his fingertips caught hers as his breathing slowed, but his heart was kept racing with the gentle movements of her fingers. once their fingers were interlocked, he brought them to his lips and pressed a couple of soft kisses to her knuckles and then the back of her hand. his bright green eyes never leaving hers. ❝ i'll be kicking myself for the rest of my life that we didn't do this sooner. ❞

❝ Except that it is terribly personal. ❞ Mick's worst nightmares were coming true when he came face to face with this man. He hadn't needed to confess to Mick that he was part of the organization he had left behind because he had seen firsthand that their rules did not contribute to the right thing. He should have known that back in the academy, but learning to be a good person was definitely one of those better late than never scenarios.

Powerful women whose determination will see to it that your head is on a pike as well... ❞ While he was terrified that he had been found so soon after going on the lam after Renny's death, he was hoping he could talk his way out of this. shoot first, ask questions later. it was a mantra that he'd had drilled into his head since he had been enrolled in kendrick's academy. one that he thought was absent from the american hunters, but more time among them had made it rather clear that wasn't the case. annihilation of the american hunters was a topic of discussion shortly before he had made his departure from the organization. killing sam and dean winchester had been his mission if they refused to cooperate with men of letters standards. ❝ you're right. but that doesn't change the fact that some of them deserve the chance to do the right thing... or have a chance to get back to britain before sam winchester nukes the place. ❞ negan could have an in. mick knew that doctor hess had her eyes on the saviors, but maybe they were on the chopping block now too. even with a surrender.

mick had developed a little more of a taste for some limited contemporary music from azrael and jessica, but he was more interested in classical and jazz music himself... sometimes the occasional actual classic rock song, the eighties hair bands did not fit into his definition. praise from chuck was interesting and mick was overall unsure of how to act around him. he of course knew that it was common to not get along with in-laws but there was certainly an added layer of worry to be impressive enough when her father was literally god. ❝ i think an appreciation for instruments has really been getting lost in modern music. ❞

it had become quite clear to mick as of late that he was a terrible judge of character and nearly brainwashed into forgetting the line between right and wrong. now, he was grown... and hopefully learned from his mistakes. though, he doubted the woman in front of him was talking about any of that and unless he was off base, mick detected a little bit of a flirty undertone to their exchange, which he had been far too invested in his work at the men of letters to ever develop any confident charisma in that department.
