“Lost Trust and Shattered Promises.” (spoilers for hsr 2.1, mentioned death, I think that's it - wc: 731, angst/platonic, gn reader)

Aventurine. He was a mysterious person who worked for the IPC. You were really the only one he was close to on a different level other than coworkers. Why a teen worked at the IPC was unknown, but Aventurine helped you out either way.

So the news of his Grand Death hit you hard. You went to Penacony with him, reasons unknown, but he left you alone and broke a promise he knew he could never kept, but he hoped he could have.

It was when you two were back at the IPC in his office — he had promised you that he'd do what he could to stay with you. You were like his younger sibling, and he loved you more than he did himself, the same as he did with his blood family.

So when he performed this Grand Death of his and you got news of it, you just stood there in Penacony. You told yourself that you had prepared for this, but apparently not enough. You were left shattered.

Walking Penacony after all that's happened — it was nostalgic in a way. The memories with Aventurine you had, they were all very dear to you. You just wondered..

“Why, Aventurine, was this the one bet you lost? Maybe it wasn't a loss for you, but it was for me.”

You knew Blade when he was Yingxing, when you were just a teen. You were old in human years, but that's beside the point. You now stood face to face with Blade, face contorted in slight anger and irritation

“Blade,” you seethed, pulling out your weapon and pointing it towards him. “You dare show your face here in the Xianzhou? After all you've done?”

He kept eye contact with you, seemingly unphased, but you knew that searching look in his eyes. He was thinking, trying to look through his muddled memories of his past as to just who you were.

“I know you don't remember me, but I still struggle to forgive that promise you broke all those years ago.”

Ah, that's why you were so familiar, yet also not to him.

“Yingxing!” you call out. He looks up to you, away from the weapon he was welding.

“Yes, [name]?” Yingxing replies.

“Can you promise to never leave me?” coming from a teen, it was quite the surprise to the man. He smiles slightly as he walks over to where you sat and ruffled your hair.

“For as long as this old man can, sure.”

It seemed you both were remembering the same memory as you stared into his eyes and he stared into yours. You put down your weapon with a shakey sigh, being the one to break the eye contact as you looked to the floor.

“Blade?” you question, still having the Hunters attention. “Why did you do that? I know it's silly to ask but..” you look up and he was gone. You sigh, looking to where he was before walking off.

This troubled Blade for some reason. Why did he break that promise? He doesn't know, and doesn't care right now.

Jing Yuan was never one to go back on his promises, especially with [name] and Yanqing.

He had promised the both of you to stay with you through your younger years, but his job made that rather difficult.

Jing Yuan stuck to that promise with Yanqing — but for some reason, it wasn't quite the same with you. Maybe it was because you had different interests than Yanqing and Jing Yuan didn't have much expertise with it, or was it just because you weren't his apprentice?

You didn't know, but he didn't keep his promise to you. That's what you did know.

You sat on a bench, looking up at the sky as you swung your legs slightly.

“Ah, [name],” you hear him call. You look to him, deciding to ask and discuss the broken promise.

“General, can I ask something?” Jing Yuan quirks an eyebrow and tilts his head slightly.

“Of course, go on.”

“Why did you break our promise?”

“..What?”

Jing Yuan was definitely taken aback by your question — the promise? Ah, that one. As he thought under your questioning gaze, he felt the guilt building up.

“[name], I apologize, it's-”

“Jing Yuan, I just want to know why you did. That's all.”

He's a traveler of sorts, and Monsieur Whiskers' guess is that he's immortal, but he's ok with that as long as he'll be able guide Readers like you.”

“Now with some context out of the way — to answer you're question, Reader Zee, we met out of chance. This empty world full of clouds and Stars isn't exactly big, but it's not small either. You have to do some walking around to find something (something?). The Stars and I taught him the Language of the Stars, so he can now communicate with us.”

“Yoo Joonghyuk, Just Why?” (extreme blood, death, offing oneself, hinted spoilers but not rlly? - wc: 540, heavy(?) angst/romantic/platonic, gn reader)

You don't quite understand Joonghyuk and the concept of Regression, but you understood that concept seemingly all too late. You only had a mere grasp of it, and now you feared what would happen to your very existence.

“Joonghyuk.. what are you doing?” you ask as you grip your weapon. You two had been through so much together including the others — just what was he planning?

All you wanted to do was go with Joonghyuk to get some needed items and maybe complete some sub-scenarios for coins. What happened?

You walk up to Joonghyuk, his blood staining your hands further and mixing with the blood of your now defeated enemy as you grasp his shoulder. He only shrugs you off, not making eye contact.

Your brows furrow as you hold your own side wound, though less severe then his. The battle didn't seem like it would be hard, but you suppose you should be more careful. “Hey, what's up. You're obviously thinking of something,” you try to urge him to talk, but get a groan in reply.

Joonghyuks wounds were severe, but you could get him back to the others and they'd know what to do, right?

“[name]..” comes a gurgled, weak call from him. Blood has only just started to drip from Joonghyuks mouth, dripping onto the ground. Your eyes widen slightly.

“Hey, hey, you'll be ok, right? No regressing?” the silence that followed only sent you further into despair. “Joonghyuk, look at me,” you say firmly, grab this shoulder again.

He doesn't look, and only grabs his sword.

“Wait, Joonghyuk? Joonghyuk, why are you..” he pushes away again, though gently, and brought the blade close to his throat.

Mortified, you ignore the pain in your side as you grab into his wrists, desperation growing by the millisecond as you look his in the eyes. His hair was all disheveled as he finally looked at you, the blood of his still dripping.

“Hey, Joonghyuk, remember that promise you made to Dokja? Not to regress? Come on, we can still-”

“Stop.”

“Remember that promise you made to me? Joonghyuk, please,” your desperate attempt to stop him seemed to make him freeze up, remembering just what you were saying.

But it turned out futile as he impulsively drove his blade into his neck, coughing up and spitting out even more blood.

“Joonghyuk!” you yell, grabbing him. It was a horrific sight, really. “You.. why?! Why are you breaking the promise you swore not to? Why!?”

It hurt Joonghyuk to do this, but his wounds were too lethal (to him). Who knew if he'd see you or the others in his next regression. “I..” he garbled, spitting out more blood. “Sorry, [name]. Maybe.. next regression. Couldn't be helped..”

You don't know what will happen to your existence now. The desperation of yours made it even worse for him to do what he did. You still wonder as you can only watch as Joonghyuk dies before your very eyes, in your own arms.

“Yoo Joonghyuk,” you sob, the wound in your side forgotten. “Just why? Why do you want to regress so badly when you leave so much behind?”

He hates how that was the last thing he had to hear before regressing.
