I’m thinking a lot right now...

Lupat finale is this weekend...

I know the final episode will be so emotional. I'm already crying thinking about Kairi, Touma and Umika reunion with their loved ones... their faces full of happiness and emotion and maybe we are going to see tears in their eyes...

Who knows? Maybe Keiichiro would be looking at Kairi and his brother with a smile, the same with Sakuya and Tsukasa with Umika and Touma. Noel also would get a happy scene...

The Global Police would get praise of all the people for defeating the most dangerous Gangler and for always protecting the peace. They would appear in all the media & newspaper as the heroes and the GSPO would be happy to have these three amazing police officers.

Maybe we would get a scene with Kairi/Shori, Touma/Aya and Umika/Shiho in the Jurer, all of them are smiling... then the open doors and the three Lupins would see the Pats, they would smile at each other... Kairi would say: Kei-chan!! and he would invite him to take a sit... or maybe he would introduce Keiichiro to his brother.

I don't know what kind of finale we are going to see but I'm excited and I know a lot of emotional things will hapen. I just love this series so much. Probably in my top #5 of Sentais... I can't believe it's been a year.

Do not try to make Kairi into something he isn’t.  That is just a mess waiting to happen hell by forcing himself to emulate Shori it just grew to resentment that lead to his brother’s capture by Zamigo. It applies to anyone really so do not expect him or force to be your visioned perfect person and hero. All it’d do is make him hate the person trying to manipulate him

As a former yankii he despises being to fit into any kind of box so do not dictate to him what he can’t or can do

favorite thing about them: UGHHGHHGHHG he's so good but my FAVORITE thing about him is his cocky attitude and the fact that he's a total softie under all that slyness

least favorite thing about them: he's so mean to my baby (kairi)! i need him to give himself one-sixteenth of a break already damn

favorite line: when k-chan was like "whatcha playing there sporto?" and kairi was like "i'll tell u for ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS," i felt that. (also when he later was like "gimme ur phone, i'll waive ur fee this once" i felt that but in a whole different way)

The ship ask for Kairi/Umika and Kairi/Keichiro

I’m unfortunately someone who doesn’t ship Kairi/Keiichiro, meaning that (in the same fashion as Sougo/Geiz), I have a hard time envisioning ship-related headcanons and whatnot. Even so, I do feel bad for having to turn down some ships, so here’s a link to my tokusatsu ship list for future reference. I do hope someone else will share their W Red headcanons for you to enjoy!

But as for Kairi/Umika, I’m very happy to oblige! This ship was my first love for LuPato, after all ^-^

Gives nose/forehead kisses:

Forehead kisses courtesy of Kairi Yano. Lately I’ve been thinking a lot about Kairi/Umika, and I came to the conclusion that Kairi has experience in relationships, even if they were flings - and that means he is an experienced kisser. Okay, this has no relation to him kissing Umika on the forehead but nevertheless it takes her breath away. Kairi doesn’t show his deeper, more “vulnerable” emotions as much, so these hold a lot of value

Gets jealous the most:

Kairi. Not that it happens a lot, but pre-relationship he’s wedged himself in between Sakuya and Umika when the former gets a bit too strong, and he might’ve split some actual salt as a male customer attempted to get Umika’s phone number

But seriously speaking, he wouldn’t interfere if 1) he knows Umika can handle it 2) Umika has feelings for the guy and 3) Kairi wants to be a troll

Once they do enter a relationship, they’ve got nothing to worry about in terms of romantic rivals

Takes care of on sick days:

They interchange. Kairi will crack a couple of jokes but he gets medicine and water and some pudding for her to have so she can get better. Umika focuses on bringing down his temperature via ice packs on the head and warm blankets

Drags the other person out into the water on beach day:

Kairi. He will splash her to provoke her and/or picks her up and throws her into the sea. She will try to water slap him afterwards XD

Brings the other lunch at work:

Kairi, albeit Umika’s in university. Kairi’s just starting to figure out what he wants to do with his life (in my personal canon I’m thinking of photographer) so he still has a lot of time on his hands

Embarrassingly drunk dancer:

Kairi has the third highest alcohol tolerance in the main crew so he will take videos of people’s drunk antics - yes, of course that includes Umika. She doesn’t dance as a commonplace drunk antic (that’s for Noel and Sakuya) but she does whine and ramble. Whether she’s calmed down or not, Kairi will get her to go home by taxi - or by his motorcycle if he remained sober

Firmly believes in couples costumes:

Not costumes but couple items - that’s Umika. Just small things like a matching jacket/hoodie and some similar accessories. Kairi doesn’t voice any complaints about that

Breaks the expensive gift rule during Christmas:

I envision that Kairi comes from a “poorer” family (middle class poor) while Umika is from a slightly richer family as part of my headcanons, though she seems conscious of financial management if her shared episode with Noel was any indication. Umika at least did this once by getting Kairi a high quality camera and he ended up using it all the time :)

He repaid the favour by getting her actual jewelry and not the kind from cheap street stalls later on

But for 2019, it’s Touma’s wedding so the two of them go out of their way to get him something good because he deserves it and as much as they tease him/argue with him/etc., they’re happy that he can be with Aya again

Makes the other eat breakfast:

Umika. I figure that Kairi often skips breakfast. She did this more when they lived in the bistro together

Remembers anniversaries:

Both, though Kairi looks at the bigger ones (birthdays, the day he lost Shori, the day he found his brother again) while Umika looks at the big and small occasions (Shiho’s manga debut, Kairi coming back from his trip round Japan, etc.). They start doing this properly after they assembled the Lupin Collection and their lives return to (somewhat) normal + they now know when the other person’s birthday is

Brings up having kids first:

The farthest I’ve envisioned for these two is dating…which is kinda funny to me, because Keiichiro isn’t as forthright as Kairi would be in terms of physical affection, and yet both of my Keiichiro ships already have him thinking about marriage

Basically nope, we don’t need to think about this yet

Kills the bugs:

Kairi. I bet he’d do that annoying thing where he picks up the bug and waves it in front of Umika’s face. It’s the kind of behaviour my dad engages in and he’s got the prank level of Kairi

First to define them as a couple:

Umika figures by the second kiss they share that Kairi isn’t going to openly say “we’re dating” - but that doesn’t mean they’re not dating. Their first kiss was probably the first step into their official relationship

I’m pretty much writing a fic about this so that’s some self promo ^w^

Who hides their guilty pleasures longer:

Kairi is a complicated case because he’s transparent but at the same time, he’s got a lot underneath the surface. I guess I’d have to hand this one to Umika, but I’m not sure what she’d hide

Snorts while laughing:

Kairi, mostly when someone is doing something ludicrous and/or stupid

I’m saying that this is a continuation of the last drabble you wrote for me and nothing will change my mind XD (and yes, I love this one just as much <3 <3). I love writing about this love triangle and reading about it, especially from someone with the kind of writing I adore, is even better!!

I always headcanonned(?) Kairi as someone with high alcohol tolerance but as they say, headcanons differ from person to person, and that makes things more interesting because drunken confessions by Kairi Yano YES IT MUST BE A THING IT HAS TO BE I LIKE THIS INTERPRETATION TOO BHJSDSJH

I was feeling downtrodden about my ships and stuff - lack of content, some other things - but you dropped this and things got brighter <3 <3

She should have known something’s up, because Kairi is laughing at absolutely nothing and she’d be giggling along with him if she isn’t worried about him first.

“Kairi,” she calls him, taking the almost-empty bottle of beer away from him. Who knew he’s such a lightweight when it comes to alcohol? “Come on. Let’s go home.”

“Why?” he asks, peering closer at her face. “Getting rid of me already?”

“That’s not–”

“You have another date?”

She doesn’t understand how he can make that question seem like an insult, but that’s Kairi for you. Umika sighs. “It’s late. We have work tomorrow.”

“Work-shwork,” he says, waving the words away. “No one cares about that.”

“Still–”

“Just go if you want. I’ll manage.”

“Are you sure?”

He pinches her nose and grins. “You worry too much.”

She swats his hand away and goes to her feet. “Call me when you get back to the bistro?”

Kairi nods and turns away from her.

She hasn’t yet taken a step when he grabs her hand all of a sudden.

“Are you–” 

Kairi keeps looking away from her when he continues, “–are you happy, Umika?”

“W-What?”

He squeezes her hand once, twice, before letting it fall. “If you’re not… at all. Just… just call me.” 

And she doesn’t know how to respond to that.

The third edition of ideas to the LuPato inversion!!

Satoru lives. I’ve got three other LuPato “AUs” and they all have dead Satoru, so this time he lives because why not

He’ll chip in as background support for the Patos every now and then + serves as a mentor to his successor aka Sakuya

His presence should assist Sakuya in undergoing his development from an eager but insecure newbie to an energetic yet capable officer assured in his own abilities

I don’t want Satoru’s presence to be another case of “I was only here because my senior failed” tbh

If I featured a main ship it’d be Keiichiro/Tsukasa but that’s just something that gets hinted every now and then

No ships on the Lupins’ end, and no LuPato romances - 95% LuPato friendships!

Tsukasa should get adequate interaction with both LuPato girls/women since the main series didn’t take full advantage of that

Tsukasa is the one who begins the actual investigation into the bistro trio’s alibis. As much as I love Keiichiro, I didn’t like how his status as a Red Ranger gave him credit for looking into the case (but to be fair, in the original series Tsukasa deduced this at a point where they didn’t have enough concrete evidence)

Even though Sakuya is the one with the positive view towards the Lupins, Tsukasa will get along with the Lupins in their thief guises the best, even if she has some trouble along the way

She’ll even let them take some Collection pieces if they did the brunt of the work during a one-to-one team-up

Noel, as per the original series, is the literal bridge between the two teams. But this time the effect of his presence is more obvious because I’d like to make use of his two motives

I suppose another theme of this version would be that you can have goals for yourself and for the world

But the characters and their personalities will probably effect how this is played out

i.e. Keiichiro develops a personal goal of wanting to help the Lupins, but his desire to keep the public safe prevents him from fully committing to that. And that frustrates him more than anything

i.e. Shori’s desire to save his brother often clashes with how he cares for others. His frustration can stem from how he needs to prioritize a Collection piece over saving someone, even if the Patos are there to do it in his stead

This is what makes the unification of the teams so important

Shori doesn’t take long to deduce that Keiichiro’s a nice guy. Of course, he’s a little stunned at how extreme Keiichiro can go for his beliefs (aka being a large ham when fired up). On Keiichiro’s end, he thinks highly of Shori for his kindness, cool head, ability to keep the peace in his team and for being the oldest of the main cast. Put together, they get along really well.  A little too well. I mean when Keiichiro finds out about Shori’s true identity he ends up asking if he can help both Yano brothers (even though he’s only heard stories about Kairi) 

I personally headcanon that Shori is ten years older than Kairi, and going by canon ages instead of the mistake I made for 40+ weeks, he should be twenty nine (whoa)

Essentially the ages are:

Shori: 29

Noel: 26

Tsukasa, Aya, Keiichiro: 24

Sakuya: 22

Shiho: 18~19

a thought process about Umika’s age, extending into the LuPato cast’s ages | basically, useless mathematical thinking

I thought Kairi was 20 years old for ten months - and therefore two years older than Umika - but turns out he’s 19 during 2018? How on earth did I read the numbers wrong even though I watched episode 8 twice when it first aired

It’s possible the profile the police took of the bistro trio was from 2017 because Kairi and Umika are wearing school uniforms respectively in the profile shots - but that wouldn’t be logical even if the police were given artistic license. It’s probably just the photo that’s ‘outdated’ since it’s the last profile photo they took before becoming Lupinrangers.

Umika celebrates her 19th birthday twenty episodes after Tsukasa first suspects the trio to be the Lupinrangers, leaving the possibility that

Kairi and Touma had their birthdays off-screen; meaning they’ve aged one year from the ages given on their profiles in episode 8. That would make Kairi 20 and Touma 25 as of December 2018.

This means Umika is one year younger than Kairi and six years younger than Touma

I roughly estimate Keiichiro and Tsukasa to be the same age as Touma, while Sakuya is 22/23. Umika would be six years younger than KeiTsu and three to four years younger than Sakuya

The Lupinrangers don’t really celebrate birthdays, since Umika talking about her 19th birthday in episode 28 sounds like it’s the first time Touma heard of it

Basically, Kairi is one year older than Umika...not that it bothers me. I haven’t really referred to Kairi’s age in fics as much as I do with Umika, Keiichiro and Tsukasa. But if I do continue my ‘two years older than Umika’ belief

Kairi would be twenty one in 2018; making him twenty when he lost his brother. But that wouldn’t make sense since it’s explicitly side in episode 8 that he finished high school in 2017 and no mention of a university was made. People usually finish high school at 18-19 (or 17 in my case, due to my early birthday) and while Kairi was a delinquent and a slacker, I don’t think he’d be that behind in his studies? Unless that’s what Big Bro Yano wanted to talk about in the flashback that started it all, and that’s left up for headcanons

I was simply thinking that Umika would continue being 18 years old in LuPato - or would turn eighteen - until episode 28 came along. That means, as stated above, Kairi would have to be twenty one in 2018

If I go with canon ages + what I thought Kairi’s age was, that means Kairi turned twenty off-screen. Unless the lack of Kairi’s birthday being mentioned shows that he’s still 19 as of December 2018, making him the same age as Umika. He probably has a birthday earlier in the year, allowing him to finish high school at 18.

...I think I’ll stick to my original perception of their ages. I’ll say that Umika turned eighteen in episode 28, which makes her six years younger than Touma, Tsukasa and Keiichiro (but say that she’s 19 and he’s turned 25, it still stands as correct), two years younger than Kairi and four years younger than Sakuya.

To summarize the above

Touma, Tsukasa, Keiichiro: 24

Sakuya: 22

Kairi: 20

Umika: 18

At the time of 2017 aka the Zamigo attacks

Touma, Tsukasa, Keiichiro: 23

Sakuya: 21

Kairi: 19

Umika: 17

In Japanese media, a character having blond or light brown hair can also be used to indicate they are foreign. Kairi seems to have had naturally brown hair when he was a child and we don't know how / where he learned French (which is not taught as standard in Japanese schools). Maybe Kairi is mixed or just wants to look sophisticated and French as well as being a delinquent? XD

That’s very true! Foreign characters do typically get brown or blonde hair in Japanese media, but I think there should be some Japanese people who have naturally brown hair? I’m going off the fact that I’m a Korean with dark brown hair so I’m not completely sure about that

I think learning French was something he picked up as a Lupinranger? Who knows, maybe canon will give us a reveal or we can come up with our own headcanons :)

Ooh Kairi being mixed race would be really nice! But if it’s the other option, combining deliquency, sophistication and French would make him the archetype of a phantom thief - wow, he’s taking his job super seriously XD but of course he would Big Bro Yano is a top priority
