noah had done a good job of seeming fine. he was strong, he was a business owner, and he couldn't afford to fall apart the way most of them did when dakota and his troop didn't return from their last job. noah felt the pain, he felt the loss, and it killed him to lose dakota. they'd spent so long dancing around their feelings for each other, and when they finally decided to give things a real shot, he lost them. he'd spent the time waiting for dakota to come home, holding on to hope, praying to whatever god would listen to return his love to him, but it didn't happen. he tried not to lose faith, noah knew what was waiting for him on the other side of his faith, of his hope, and he couldn't bring himself to face it. there were times when he slipped, of course, when he cursed himself for not telling dakota how he felt earlier, for not kissing him more, for not doing more, for not being more. but life goes on. that was the crushing reality. days turned into weeks, weeks turned into months. he'd lost track of how long dakota had been missing, of how long he'd been bearing the weight of that loss without fully accepting it. he had to get by, he had no choice. so he worked in his restaurant each day, he plastered on a smile, he thanked people for their prayers, thier well wishes, their apologies, their sympathy, and then he went home and dreamed of being with dakota again. today was another of those long days. noah closed the restaurant early, finding the burden particularly heavy that day, and was in the process of clearing up after sending his staff home. he heard the door open but was busy restocking underneath the counter, " we're closed, sorry, " he called, before slowly rising from his spot. noah stopped, staring back at the man on the other side of the counter. silence hung between them for a beat longer than it should have before either of them broke the silence, " dakota? "

it was right about now that sully was starting to remember why he had considered moving into a shitty studio apartment instead of continuing to live with noah when she was determined to be the bane of his existence. somehow he'd been blinded by half-decent conversations and about five minutes of peace when their other roommate had left but now it was just them. "did you move things in the fridge again?" he called down the hall from where he was in the kitchen, fridge door open in front of him as he looked and looked for his leftovers from the weekend. "noah!" he called out for her, assuming she hadn't heard him.

"it's been....quite the day. we have a biter in our midst. not eden, not jude either, but it's caused quite a scene this afternoon." not that it was the first time and noah knew it wouldn't be the last time, either. one of the parents was pissed about it and whilst he couldn't blame them, it wasn't as though he hadn't tried his utmost to prevent it from happening.
