hey i’m sorry for bothering you with this question but i can’t remember where i read this scene… it’s one where remy is in jean-luc’s study after he k*lled belladonna’s brother; jean-luc is very mad breaking the news to remy he’s being exiled. then remy asks what he would do if he couldn’t find a way to survive — something like that — and jean-luc replies something along the lines of “then my son… you steal from faith”. i thought it was from HOC trilogy but i can’t find it! maybe it’s in coda? (i’ll definitely reread everything when i have the time)
Okay, I had to check this one too! It's in chapter 20 of Arrow of Time, The Reconciliation. It's on p. 347 of the print version. And the quote is 'you steal from fate'. Which is... I know I got that from somewhere, but I can't remember where. Was it from Gambit (1999)? Or from X-Treme X-Men? For the life of me, I can't remember now. Anyway, I think Remy says to Rogue, 'Let's steal another one from fate', and I took the line from there, but it all escapes me now. 🤔
And can I just say how wonderful it is that you connected with all Remy's childhood moments, the ones with his father. I'm so happy they resonated with you. I have ... thoughts and feelings about father/child relationships. They always touch me in some way. Glad you felt the same way too, through my words. 🫶🏼

one day I might do some little drabbles with the characters here and @whatevcr-us , or at least little studies on how they'd interact. I personally love the different between Crystal and Arktos; the latter is an ancient, evil being, the embodiment of the darkest side of winter, the other is a humble, fairly new spirit created literally from love and community.
there's also XL and X-Treme; back in the day, when I really got into BLoSC, I wanted to explore how the little menace would come back into the show. I noticed at the end of 'Clone Ranger's they make a point to have the now-aged clones acknowledge that X-Treme is gone, and I figured they left it open-ended in case they ever wanted to bring the character back. I do like the idea of X-Treme and XL finding some common ground.

So normal about the fact that X-Treme is not only designed as a young child that’s a replication of someone else but is a robot and will no doubt get mistreatment for being a clone of XR, being a child, and being a robot all at the same time even if he converts to a more morally correct side. I’m so normal

Opel Astra X-Treme Concept
The Astra OPC X-Treme is a racing car for use on normal roads. It was developed and built under the supervision of Opel Performance Center GmbH (OPC), a subsidiary company, estab-lished in 1997, responsible for the Opel European motor sport activities and the de-velopment of exclusive Opel-based high-performance automobiles. The X-Treme not only became one of the fastest sportscars when it first turned a wheel, but even prior to this, in terms of rapid development work. Come the end of the first DTM race season the OPC engineers and Opel’s designers needed only seven weeks, in close cooperation with the International Technical Development Center (ITDC) in Rässelsheim, to create a ready-to-run car based on the DTM Astra CoupéThe high-tech sportscar’s overall concept is based on the DTM car: the safety bodys-hell has gull-wing doors, a spaceframe and various exceptionally rigid components reinforced with carbon fiber. Its 4.0-liter V8 engine, with four valves per cylinder, drives the rear wheels through a sequential-shift six-speed, transaxle gearbox. The wheels are suspended on double wishbones and there are carbon-fiber disk brakes at the front and rear. In the course of development work, however, at least half of the cars compo-nents were either modified or redesigned for road use. The metamorphosis from racer to road car can be studied in detail on the restyled and more harmonious outer skin, which was the work of body designer Ulli Hochmuth. In-stead of the DTM cars, double-wing front spoiler, the X-Treme has an integrated single-section version flush with the body. Similar modifications have been made to the rear end of the Astra OPC X-Treme. The tail, with its built-in diffusor, is smoother and has a restyled spoiler. Similar rounding-off work has been performed at the body panel joints, the outside mirrors and the side panels, while the two twin ex-haust tailpipes add symmetry and visual balance. In place of the 18-inch wheels called for by the DTM championship regulation, the X-Treme runs on 20-inch wheels of new OPC design; like their counterparts on the competition car, they have central fastenings. An equally dramatic visual aspect of this new high-performance car is its specially-created fiery red eight-coat paint finish.the engine, with its dry sump lubrication, doesn’t have to withstand thousands of prac-tice and race miles without any attention; as a result it is allowed to run up to a maximum speed 850 revolutions a minute higher than its competition counterpart, yet de-velops a maximum power output only 18 horsepower lower, namely 326 kW (444 hp) at 7350 rpm, more than enough to catapult this red-painted rocket’s to a place among the extreme high performers’, as its name implies. Acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h takes no more than four seconds, and the top speed is beyond the 300 km/h mark.

for harringsmith prompt how aBOUT amusement park shit?? like the food, the rides, the whole summer vibe ykno :)?
oghghg hello there fella ty for the prompt!! this works out so well bc i miss the vibe that stranger things s3 summer had… just the aesthetics of it all :’) i hope u enjoy !!
It’s horribly arid today. Steve shuts his eyes against the sun, and lets out a low, obnoxious whine as he drops his head against Quentin’s shoulder, as they are both slumped against a stroller-stand, frozen lemonade making their hands sticky with condensation.
Quentin tries to shrug him off, “Dude, you’re sweating on me.”
“Why don’t you love me?” Steve pouts, before pressing a kiss to Quentin’s lips, who grimaces at both of their combined sweatiness, but kisses back nonetheless, fond.
They were at some amusement park, lured in by the promise of deep-fried food and rides tall enough to touch the stars in, plastered in bright neon lights. The sun was beginning to sink, but had a ways to go, and the air was beginning to go from just hot, to hot and muggy, to both boys’ exasperation. Quentin, moreso than Steve, who was smart enough to don a cropped tanktop. Quentin had insisted he’d need his jacket along, and looked more miserable for it.
Steve almost kisses him again, the pout on his face simply too much, but Quentin stops him with a firm hand against his mouth, a sick glee in his baby blues. Steve’s scared.
“Steve.” Quentin starts, “We’ve been here.. how long?” He yells as Steve licks his hand, making a disgusted face as he goes to wipe his hand on his pants, with a little, “You are so gross.”
“Like, hours.” Steve answers, to the best of his knowledge. He slurps the last dregs of his frozen lemonade, while Quentin divulges his master plan.
“We need to ride the Gut-Puncher.” His lovely, horrible, adrenaline-junkie boyfriend enthuses, “C’mon, don’t tell me King Steve’s scared of heights.” He’s smiling at Steve, small but still there, nudging his arm and ok, no, he can not pussy out of this now. He is not admitting that he’s never ridden anything higher than a baby, itty-bitty dragon coaster when Quentin is looking at him like that.
“Of course not.” He scoffs, like the suggestion is ridiculous. “Bring it on, Smith. Let’s see you walk the walk.”
Quentin studies him for a moment, mischief still dancing in his eyes before he rises to his feet, tugging Steve up as well. They walk side-by-side, hands interlaced between them as they navigate through the hordes of people leaving the park, as closing hours drew nearer and nearer. The line for the Gut-Puncher is small, and the worker is clearly fatigued and snappy, which does not help Steve’s nerves.
‘People go on rides like these all the time! I’m totally fine!’ He psychs himself up as Quentin and him move further up, behind a gaggle of school-age kids. The worker pops his bubblegum obnoxiously, eyes half-lidded in boredom as he runs through his safety introduction.
“Welcome to the X-Treme Gut-Puncher Slingshot, I’m Danny, I’m your ride operator. Please keep all extremities inside if you value them, please don’t puke, and the louder you scream, the more I get paid,” He bares his teeth in a faux smile that looks more like a grimace, “So. Please. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the show.”
“Where.. where are the buckles?” He asks finally, confused as they slide into the neon seat. Danny grins again, and slams the bar down across their laps. “No buckles, big boy. Just the lap bar.”
‘Oh fuck.’ is Steve’s only coherent thought for the next minute. There are sharp twists and turns and snaps, and the wind is whipping his face in a way that makes it seem cold, for the first time since entering the park. It’s terrifying, it’s exhilarating. Quentin is whooping next to him, arms high in the air and with Quentin’s arms in the air, Steve’s are as well. His hair is going to be fucking ruined after this, but for that blissful minute, he doesn’t care.
They hurtle up, up, and up. From here, Steve can see the whole park, almost. He sees where Quentin and him had gorged themselves on deep-fried Oreos and hot dogs, the funhouse they’d quickly gotten lost (and Quentin had bumped his head) in, and it’s all lit up in the fading daylight. He feels himself audibly gasp and Quentin laughs at him. When he looks back self-consciously, he finds Quentin smiling at him with fond, crinkled eyes.
As he opens his mouth to ask him what he’s smiling about, his stomach falls out of his body, and probably out of the ride. They are suddenly hurtling down the track at what feels like light-years, Quentin puts his hands up again, theis time grabbing Steve’s before he does, moving it from where it was clenched around the lap-bar. They yell in unison, until their lungs are sore, eyes squinted against the rushing wind.
Steve never understood why people loved these rides so much, but now he thinks he does. for that moment before you fall, truly suspended, and how it almost feels like flying.
As he screams himself hoarse, he thinks, maybe it’s also just fucking fun.
When the car finally rolls to a halt, back where they started, the ride operater bows with a fancy flourish, stepping onto the platform to free the poor kids who looked like they’d all seen ghosts, before he gets to their row.
“Repeat riders?” He asks, expectantly.
Quentin’s about to move to get up, but Steve tugs him down, “Fuck yeah we are.” He says, raising his chin in that ‘bring-it-on’ way. Quentin laughs at him, openly, and Steve chooses to ignore it.
“Yeah, I guess we are.” Quentin answers, before he’s turning to Steve, watching Danny fiddle with the ride’s control panel. “You didn’t tell me that you’d never ridden a rollercoaster before.”
“What?” Steve laughs nervously, “Baby, no, of course I have.”
Quentin holds out his hand, where there are tiny crescent indents from Steve’s fingers, and watches him flounder for an answer, snickering.
“It was kind of a lot-!”
“Because it was your first time on one-!”
Their bickering is swept up in the rush of the ride starting back up again.

X-Treme X-Men #7
I love that Ali chooses the kids instead, I mean it’s probably what any decent person would do, but she doesn’t even hesitate when she see’s the kids in danger.
Also, at this point in the story she thought Johnny was trying to make her his sidechick but still. I don’t think that kind of thing would go through Ali’s mind in this situation. EDIT: Also she’s under the impression that this is just some alternate dimension, she’s not aware they’ve hopped back into the 616 universe.
Howlett ends up saving Johnny in the next panel.

Snapshots from Detention
DETENTION NOTICE
NAME: Jackson Overland-Frost
HOMEROOM: Bunnymund
REASON: Ran down the hallway during study hall with a bluetooth speaker blasting "I want to break free", thus disrupting other students
There are two seasons in Scotland. June and Winter.
Jack hums as he sets down a single foot on the cold cobblestone of the DunBroch gatehouse. Even with a guard in front awake and alert, Jack slips past him into the daunting castle easily.
Check Yes Gnomiet
There weren't really many extensive circumstances that led up to this point. You could say it started when Merida first began indulging the boy's whims, or maybe pin it as early as when she met Frost, but no. Jack's shenanigans were typically independent of one another. Whether that was a good thing or a bad thing…
Seen and not heard
When Amity was eleven years old the twins wanted absolutely nothing to do with her for nearly two years.
They had gotten to the exact age where they were comfortable meeting up with friends all by themselves but Amity still legally wasn’t allowed to be by herself in the house. Given how both of their parents were constantly out for work, Mother and Father had set the rule that one of the twins could make plans as long as one of them stayed behind or they brought Amity along.
 Rendezvous
An ethereal being with immense amount of power, say an archangel, is not confined to limitations of miracles and physics the same way humans and lesser angels are. Their bodies are both real and untrue to the laws of the universe at the same time, so travel can be done with a single thought, if one thinks hard enough.
Welcome you home
Realistically, Catra’s world should have come to an end when she pulled the lever. That was when everything fell apart, when she was split and corrupted between herself and the unknown that had seemed familiar. When she turned into the nothing of another reality. Catra remembers that, that life in the back of her head like a recent dream. But that dream was not what happened. Adora got involved, everyone became themselves again, and Catra’s livelihood sputtered out and died on a much more anticlimactic note.
the WIP title for this one is: Merida’s HARDCORE X-TREME DOPE birthday EPIC spectacular
no title for this one but its just a giant indulgent costume party w queerplatonic jarida and merida bonding with elsa bc i said so. and mavis is there.
Queen Elinor of the DunBroch Kingdom means well. She does.
She does, Merida scolds herself. The nerves in her hands constrict like they
disagree but Merida negates that by slamming one of her swords into her bed frame for good measure.
“Awh you guys are so cute!” Mavis slightly slurs around her plastic neon pink vampire teeth. They are the only hint Merida has that Mavis actually wore a costume to the costume party, because the gothic cape and acrylic claws on their own wouldn’t be too out of the ordinary for Mavis’ style.
This one’s a giant big four project where i really thought about the worldbuilding i would go with if i wanted to make a whole overarching story where they met. but its again, a giant story.
Jack never learns the names of where he goes and here is no exception. It’s not for a lack of trying but usually the denizens of the lands he visits are always too busy rushing into the warm indoors to just namedrop much of anything. If Jack had to come up with a name for where he roamed now though, it would probably be something like Greenland. The real Greenland he had visited was more his ‘style’ but wasn’t deserving of the name. Here, everywhere he looked there was something green or just about. Green trees, green hills, green thickets.
It was his job, then, to change that.
and thiiiiiis is a piece about modern hiccup coming to terms with being touch-starved and what that means for his overly-touchy friends :V
Stoick was many, many things, but you couldn’t quite call him affectionate. Not with Hiccup.
The last time Stoick had picked Hiccup up was when he was four years old. It was finally time to plan a funeral for Valka. He’d been putting it off for three years but Stoick knew that even with the slim chance of her being alive somewhere out in the world, there wasn’t going to be any closure for them. This would be the closest they could get. When the casket finally arrived it remained empty and Stoick picked Hiccup as though he was hoisting an anchor, squeezing tight enough to burn. And that was that.
What I notice off the bat? Rotbtd obsession and inside of that a smaller, more intense jarida obsession. Seriously its bad. But more to the point I tend to have a lot of stress when it comes to first lines so I’ll compensate for that by just deciding to start where I’m most interested in. So sometimes I jump in with dialogue, or a framing device, or i put forth a ‘fun little factoid’ for the reader that if I stretch it out enough will give me enough mileage for the rest of the concept. you can see that last bit especially in here i think.

May I present
Sonic Adventure (1998)

Writer: Akinori Nishiyama
Composer(s): Jun Senoue, Kenichi Tokoi, Fumie Kumatani, Masaru Setsumaru
Inspiration
Due to the cancellation of Sonic X-treme on the SEGA Saturn, Sonic Team immediately went about trying to develop the first 3D Sonic game. With the release of Sony's Crash Bandicoot and Nintendo's Super Mario 64, they needed a killer app to sell the Dreamcast and tension was high. Production started in 1997 where Sonic Team famously traveled to Latin America to study on the culture and architecture of major cities like those found in Cancun, Guatemala, and Peru to use for the environments in-game.
Story
In this game (a first for the series), you have the option to play six different stories of six different characters: Sonic, Tails, Amy, Knuckles, Big, and E-102 Gamma. When a mysterious humanoid monster made entirely of water shows up out of nowhere, Sonic and the gang team up to retrieve the seven Chaos Emeralds and use their power to halt Dr. Eggman's plans of summoning an ancient water monster Chaos to unleash havoc. Throughout each of the six quests, the characters uncover clues about the origins of Chaos and how Chaos became the most feared monster.
Gameplay
Sonic Adventure is a 3D platformer spread across multiple environments from Station Square to Windy Valley. In between the various maps are hub worlds (like Station Square) where you can talk to NPCs and TV screens to learn tips and tricks. Although the characters differ in story progression, the tracks for the platforming segments are times and your final score is ranked on how fast you complete the track as well as your number of rings and how many enemies you attacked. When you want to take a break, there is a separate hub world called the Chao Garden where you get to raise cute little creatures called Chao and take care of them.
Reception
At the time of release, it was well-received by critics and gamers alike, making it the best-selling title on the Dreamcast. Particular aspects that were praised included the music and the visuals as Sonic Team strove to create the most realistic visuals possible to showcase what the Dreamcast was capable of. Some drawbacks, however, were just as noticeable with the weird camera angles and glitches that were present. The reactions to the voice-acting were mixed.
Legacy
Although the game has received less positive reviews over the years due to it aging poorly, it is still considered one of the best Sonic games to date for its high replay value, music and other extras. It even received a Gamecube port known as Sonic Adventure DX: Director's Cut a few years later that improved the original version. It is still remembered fondly by Sonic fans to this day.
Thoughts from the Head
Although I didn't play SA1 until recently (I played SA2 first on the Gamecube), the influence that Sonic Adventure had was immense, even a decade later thanks to the Internet. The soundtrack alone is one of the best-remembered OSTs in gaming history and its staying power is a force to be reckoned with in the gaming world. Has it aged poorly? Yes. Is it still worth playing? Also yes. Sonic Adventure is a fascinating game in terms of development history and scope. Sonic Team really did try to show what the Dreamcast was able to do graphically and, while it may have aged, it also carries a certain charm as well that you really can't be mad at it. That all being said, if you have a Dreamcast, Gamecube, or Steam, I would encourage you to give the game a chance. Personally though, it's better to play it either on the original Dreamcast or Steam as the Gamecube version, while improved on the mechanics, is horrendous graphics-wise. Best bet? Play the Steam version as it doesn't require a lot to power to run it and the graphics and glitches have been fixed.
I actually do a Dreamcast copy in my possession, however it is in the dorm so I don't have immediate access to it. I also have the Steam version I bought from a sale a few years ago (as of this post, it is on sale for $1.19 and the sale is good until January 5th. The normal price is $7.99).
Check it out!

Keto Burn Xtreme Review - 6 Things You Need to Know
Tumblr media
1. What is Keto Burn Xtreme?
Keto Burn Xtreme is an exogenous ketone supplement that promises to suppress your appetite, burn fat for energy, and increase your weight loss potential. Ketone bodies are compounds that are produced when fat is metabolized. There are endogenously produced ketones that are made by your body, and there are exogenous ketones that come from an outside source. A journal article published in Regulatory Toxicology and Pharmacology suggests that exogenous, or synthetic, ketones increase ketone blood levels. This mimics a state of ketosis and causes the body to begin burning fat for energy
2. Who Makes Keto Burn Xtreme?
Keto Burn Xtreme is made by a company located in Tampa, Florida.
According to the Better Business Bureau, this company is known by several names:
Keep Healthy Nutrition LLC
Detox Burn Xtreme
Keep Healthy Detox
Main Line Fitness LLC
Keto Supplement
Keto X-treme
Main Line Detox
Just Healthy Slimdown
Keto Research Labs
Keto Slimdown
Healthy Life Detox
Keto Detox
Keto Diet Research Labs
Grennaturalsbrands.com
Keto Burn
The Better Business Bureau (BBB) issued two alerts regarding the makers of Keto Burn Xtreme. The first alert warned consumers of unauthorized credit card charges involving this company. The second alert alleges that this company uses fake celebrity endorsements for marketing their products.
The company that designed manufactures and sells Keto Burn Xtreme has an “F” rating from the BBB.
Scroll below for one of the best products we’ve seen over the last year.
3. Most Common Keto Burn Xtreme Claims
The company behind these weight-loss supplements claims that they:
Improve metabolism
Boost energy levels
Curb appetite
Maintain lean muscle
Reduce fat in problem areas
Use premium quality ingredients
There are also claims about Keto Burn Xtreme appearing on Shark Tank. This product was never featured on the hit ABC show Shark Tank, and it has not been endorsed by any Shark Tank judges. The BBB is investigating these claims.
4. Keto Burn Xtreme Ingredients
Sodium β-hydroxybutyrate
Magnesium β-hydroxybutyrate
Calcium β-hydroxybutyrate
MCT Oil
7-Keto DHEA
L-Arginine
keto burn xtreme reviews   These three BHB salts are commonly used in weight-loss supplements to induce a state of ketosis. An article published in the Journal of Nutrition and Metabolism found that BHB salts are not well tolerated and may cause abdominal distress. Researchers concluded that a high dose of BHB salts is necessary to achieve a therapeutic effect. This high dose likely increases the risk of side effects.
5. Does Keto Burn Xtreme Work?
There are mixed results associated with any weight-loss pills, but even more so with keto weight-loss pills. There is limited evidence to suggest that exogenous ketones may improve metabolism while decreasing appetite.
A study published in Obesity concluded that a beverage containing ketone esters can reduce appetite by lowering ghrelin levels. Ghrelin is a hormone responsible for promoting fat storage and increased appetite.
6. Keto Burn Xtreme Benefits and Results
Our research team took into account dozens of Keto Burn Xtreme reviews during our investigation. Some users reported that they lost weight when they took this product in addition to following a keto diet. Other users claimed they didn’t lose any weight.
keto burn xtreme side effects One of the biggest complaints surrounding this product is that there is no Keto Burn Xtreme free trial. This keto diet supplement costs $59.99 for a one-month supply, and some dieters won’t spend that kind of money unless they know a product works.
How to Use Keto Burn Xtreme
Take two capsules on an empty stomach. For best results, the company suggests you take with two Detox Burn Extreme capsules.

Behind the Curtain: Interview with Romy Writer Ludi-Ling
House of Cards actually started out as a random smut scene that burgeoned into something far, far more.
@ludi-ling goes meta in our final interview about her writing process; how the Romy fandom’s changed over the years; alternate universes (AU); and the role of smut for Romy fans. (Spoiler alert, our heroes are hot.)
No surprise that it’s a pleasure interviewing Ludi. I kept sending her more questions (25 total!) because her responses fascinated me and inspired me to ask more. It’s a rare person who writes visceral, startling prose and can also talk about her work with clarity, intelligence, and an affection for her characters that doesn’t occlude good writerly judgment.
The superlatives don’t end there. Anyone who knows the community knows that Ludi is a friend to her readers and to her fellow writers. As we all enter a heady 2019, reading Mr. and Mrs. X together, Ludi is someone to cherish.
If you haven’t read our other interviews, please check out: Part 1 of interviews: X-men Origins Part 2 of interviews: Going Dark
Tumblr media
As a scholar of fan studies, do you believe Romy fanfiction fulfills needs that Marvel never can? What needs might those be, for Romy fans?
Certainly I think that fanfic is built on the premise of filling in the gaps, scribbling in the margins (to quote the seminal fan studies scholar, Henry Jenkins!) and fixing perceived wrongs. Comics are unique in that regard because the characters and stories within them continue for years and even decades. Comics continuities are convoluted and complicated, and there is a constant churn of writers working on them. Many fans have followed characters for far longer than the writers, and may know the characters more intimately than the professionals. Comics are full of retcons and contradictory takes on the characters. And I think fanfic is an important medium for allowing fans to “fix” that, to negotiate it. Because of the ongoing nature of comics, and because the futures of the characters are always going to be nebulous and subject to the whims of Marvel and the writers indefinitely, I think it’s going to continue to be important. Romy may be married in the comics, but there will still be plenty to write about—kids, divorce, a reconciliation . . . who knows? ;)
What do you think Romy readers seek out when they read fanfiction? If it’s wish fulfillment, what kinds of wishes are being fulfilled? If it’s looking for “gaps” that the comics skip over, what have you found to be the most common sorts of gaps?
I think Romy is a very interesting example of the “wish fulfillment” function of fanfiction. Because part of the mystique of that ship (no pun intended) is that they can’t touch, they can’t consummate their relationship . . . And fanfic is a way that fans can get them to touch, to work out that angst. I think that one of the staples of Romy fic is the sexual tension between the two, and how they resolve that; the push and pull between them. Sometimes these take place in epic, superheroic backdrops, sometimes in AUs, where they have no mutant powers and where the tension between them is born from other factors (such as already having significant others, or being enemies, or in illicit lines of work).
What draws you to AUs? Your stories aren’t a case of fanfiction filling what’s “between panels”; you tend to shift characters and relationships to entirely different settings, whether it’s a Strange Days–like world or another genre, like a Southern gothic procedural. Can you talk about AUs and how they play out in your imagination?
What I’ve always liked is world-building. One of my first large-scale writing projects was a fantasy trilogy called The Legend of Elu. Most of the fun I got from that was actually building the world, the kingdoms, the mythology, the theology, the languages, the history of that story. That definitely bled into my fanfic.
Now I tend to write canon stuff as one-shots, and novel-length stuff as AUs, because they give me more space to play with world-building. That was something I realised I enjoyed more when I wrote Threads. Writing all those little worlds in a series of one-shots felt too “small.” HoC was originally an expansion of the Threads tale Touch and Go, but it grew into something else, and since then, I’ve preferred to go the AU route for the longer-form stories. :)
We’re living in peak Romy times—I think we’re still reeling from the wedding! Let’s say you had the power to go back in time and drop a pin into an earlier moment in the Romy timeline that you felt truly represents what Romy means to you (which isn’t the same as when they’re happiest!). When and in what universe? Why this choice?
There are so many iconic moments from Romy’s past, but, for me personally, I always go back to their time in Valle Soleada (in X-Treme X-Men). That’s not because they’re happy per se, but because I think that that period was the perfect example of how great they worked together on every level, and was proof positive that they were a good match. I often say it, but I will say it again here, because it’s the truth, and y’all can fight me to the death over it—if there was a time they would’ve got married and I would’ve bought it 100%, it would’ve been in Valle Soleada.
On Tumblr, it seems a large contingent of Romy fans are women in their 30s who discovered Romy at a tender age, thanks to the animated series. This includes you and me! There are exceptions, of course. What’s it like for you to have been in the fandom from the early aughts? What changes in the fandom have you noticed between 2003 and 2018?
I really joined the fandom at an exciting time for Romy—they’d just got back together properly after all the turmoil of the Trial of Gambit. X-Treme X-Men was a treat for Romy fans, and Claremont wrote such a great dynamic between them. As fans we were all excited and happy and well-fed on all that Romy goodness.
So it was weird (not to mention disappointing) when the 2004 reboot happened, and Marvel did everything they could to tank Romy. Which is one thing, and I can stomach it if [it were] logically and well written, but it was just so terribly done that I think many of us just tapped out of the fandom completely. I’d say 2005–2018 were fallow years for the Romy fandom. Most (if not all) of the fan friends I made at that time completely left the fandom. For myself, as someone who enjoys writing AUs, it was the perfect time to branch out from writing in canon and fitting Romy into my own world.
Who are your influences? What writers do you feel a particular affinity for? Are there writers whom we might be surprised to discover informed your work, but you feel have, despite appearances?
I was heavily influenced by the dark, modern fairytales of Angela Carter about the time that I was writing Queen of Diamonds and Threads. She had a really magical way with words—her prose was lyrical, sensual, and unbelievably rich. She was a huge inspiration, but later I moved away from her tone, firstly because I felt I was doing a poor imitation of her, secondly because it wasn’t really appropriate for the direction I wanted to move my fics in, and lastly because I was becoming self-conscious of my insane verbosity and wanted to pare down my prose. That’s something I’m still working on!
At some point during the writing of House of Cards, I finally got round to reading Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and I think it was Douglas Adams who convinced me to move away from Carter’s beautiful but too-flowery prose. I loved the way his narrative just sizzled. I’m bad at capturing that energy—but I do think that from HoC onwards, I’ve tried to learn to be more economical with my words—which is hard for a florid soul like mine.
Threads—structurally at least—was influenced by Italo Calvino’s If On a Winter’s Night a Traveller, and later, by David Mitchell’s Cloud Atlas.
Let’s say you can pair your fiction with other works of art—of all forms, films, paintings, music, etc.—as if you were pairing wines to foods. What other pieces of art might you say go along with yours?
Wow! OK—that’s hard. Threads I’d probably pair with Cloud Atlas (the book, not the film, which I haven’t yet watched). HoC—I don’t know that there’s any one thing I would pair it with, but you can bet a load of post-apocalyptic stuff was thrown into that stew, along with a bit of The Matrix and probably some Inception.
52 Pickup was influenced a lot by Asmus’s Gambit run, cos I really wanted to write a heist fic with Remy and Rogue rather than Remy and Joelle (who I freely admit kicked ass). But if I had to pair it with a piece of media, it’d be with the video game Remember Me, which dealt a lot with themes of how memories inform our identities, and the ethical concerns of having memories essentially become “documents” that are uploaded and shared digitally through the cloud.
This is a good segue to talk about high-low culture. We may not want to believe in a hierarchy of culture, but we can certainly talk about the differences between fanfiction and “regular fiction.” When you read fanfiction, do you approach it differently than you would regular fiction? Are your expectations for form, reading pleasure, or anything else different? If so, how so?
Interesting question! I don’t know whether I approach it differently per se, but I think that readers have different expectations of fanfic. Hopefully we all read “regular fiction” for the same reason we read fanfic—for pleasure. But I don’t think there’s really a binary between regular and fanfiction. I think both exist on a continuum. There is a lot of “regular fiction” (I prefer to call it “profic” or “professional fiction,” because I think that’s where the binary between the two exists) that is actually very close to fanfic, and vice versa. By that I mean that there is plenty of fanfic that is epic in scope, deals with serious themes, and might be considered “classics” if they weren’t fanfiction.
And there is also profic, like romance, that is more similar to fanfic in terms of the kind of functions that it serves. There is an illicit pleasure to reading romance—for example, it’s not the kind of thing you’d openly read in public! There’s a similarity between that and fanfic, and I think, as readers of fanfic, we anticipate some level of illicitness when we approach it—even if the illicitness is only in the format (i.e., it’s fanfiction!), not in the content.
Fun question: What role do you think explicit smut functions in a fic? How do you deal with smut in your work? There’s an interesting moment that’s not in HoC, in which you write about Gambit and Rogue’s first time having sex in his point of view. It’s a separate chapter that exists as its own entity on your fanfiction.net page. Notably, it is much more explicit than the scene in Rogue’s perspective. Can you talk a little bit about this decision?
Well, I do think that fanfic is a safe space for writers to explore their sexuality (and I think that’s a huge part of the reason why fic is looked down upon), and smut plays a significant role in that. And smut certainly plays a part in my own fics. HoC actually started out as a random smut scene that burgeoned into something far, far more. Generally, I do try to make the sex scenes have a purpose in the plot (’cos I’m kind of anal about plot structure!), but in the particular case of Slow Burn and the other HoC vignettes, those are more self-contained one-shots where I could explore things that I couldn’t explore in the main story. So I could indulge in the smut a bit more! And let’s be honest—Gambit’s dark sexuality makes it thrilling to write smut from his perspective—of course his “thoughts” are going to be more explicit! ;)
But I also think that it’s interesting to write their individual perspectives on their sexual encounters, because of that tension between their characters. Rogue is the quintessential virginal Southern Baptist gal who’s inexperienced; whereas Gambit is the sexually aggressive alpha male who’s probably never had a woman turn him down in his life. That makes for a very combustive love affair between the two, and makes it fun to write that love affair (and all the smut in-between) from both their points of view.

I'm just surprised the worm survived at all. I know most annelids have tastebuds all over, but I can't imagine one of them having a yen for the sweet, sweet taste of Gin-U-wine Japanese Transistors...
My own experience is kind of analogous. I have an uncle who, before a chronic injury, weed and the bottle turned him into an invalid, collected old beige tower PCs from former colleagues of his. His basement had a wall of unplugged and stacked ATX cases from the halcyon days of Windows 98. Realizing his hoarding was getting out of hand, he asked me to take a look at a few of them and to figure out which were resellable - either as-is or in parts. As you can imagine, a Pentium III from 1999 wasn't worth much in 2003. I didn't have the heart to tell him he was hanging onto e-waste (he had little to no personal projects and very little drive), so... I sort of gave it my best shot.
A few check-ups in, I bring down and open an old Cooler Master case straight out of the "I'm beige as fuck, but I'm fucking X-TREME, my dudes!" school of design. I unseat the baby GPU from the AGP slot (yes, I'm that old), remove the sound and network cards, unplug the IDE ports and the CPU fan ports, effectively free the motherboard from the case, and lift it out to take a closer look.
The case's opposite panel was a study in fungal development. The underside of the PCB is discolored to shades I've never seen in even the most "Designer" of boards, and the mold colony is almost looking like a timid shot at impasto, in modern art. For context, impasto is what you get when you add paint to a canvas thick enough to create tactile ridges, or literal buildups of paint. Imagine that, but with some sort of organism that probably thrived in the darkest recesses of the Charles-Lemoyne Hospital's old call center, as of 2003. I've briefly worked there as a teen and, well - it was a dark and damp pit with AC that wasn't worth crap and doors that could lock you in if you weren't careful.
Past that, I've also got what looks like an incongruous blob of rubber shielding on the board's chipset. Even back then, I hadn't seen that many boards with blobbed-up chips and most that were were red flags. Most USB controllers are expected to be able to handle their own voltage and dissipating heat, and they're just not a part of common boards that you shield at all. The MOSFETs matter more in the grand scheme of things if you're talking about heat dissipation and cursory amounts of EMF shielding, so I first thought the hospital had gone for El Cheapo parts after some sort of deal with IBM for the call centre fell through. I pull out my phone and start looking for lookalikes.
A few minutes later, I find the exact same board, screenshotted by the manufacturer. There's no blob on the chipset.
I go back to the board. I lift it up, and notice that the blob is kind of brownish and vaguely transparent - and dread starts to mount.
I turn to my uncle. "Hey Joe, that was one of your personal rigs, right?"
He nods. "Yeah, why?
- Did you leave the case open for a while?"
He looks confused. "Maybe, the fans weren't working well and I needed to wait a few days for the paycheck to clear, so..."
Joe's a smoker. As in, an unrepentant chain-smoker who hops over to the Mohawk reservation for illegally-sourced carts of coffin nails, to skip on Federal and Provincial taxes.
I'm looking at a nicotine buildup on the chipset. No wonder his ports were fried, it's no surprise he had to go back to PS/2 keyboards and pointers!
Disgusted and concerned, I pull out a small plastic spudger from my kit - barely more than a toothpick - and I try picking away at it, thinking that giving that poor controller a decent shot at heat dissipation after six years of suffocation will at least confirm my theory. By my standards, this is a dead board. By his, he won't want to hear it.
He sees me working. "Hey, don't do that! I've tried removing it and the board just doesn't run unless there's something on there!"
Dread turns to disgust. The board probably had a litany of controller-related issues, and Joe had accidentally discovered that the more he smoked next to the build's open case, the more reliable his USB ports were. That means the gunk was probably isolating a flaw in the board, cutting off a short-circuit of some kind, until the buildup was too thick for any sort of accidental benefit to be maintained.
The final whammy comes when he tells me, completely straight-faced, that this shielding blob is made of an old bit of gum he stuck on there, and of the last several years' worth of nicotine buildup.
By this point, I'm pushing myself away from the table and wishing I had a flamethrower to take to his build and his Wall of Computing Horrors.
i miss when everyone had a giant, ancient family computer that required family know-how to operate. like you’d go to a friends house and you guys would try to play club penguin or whatever and before you turned it on your friend would be like “oh, before you start up, unplug the mouse four times and kiss the top of the monitor, or the screen will only display in black and white” and you’d just say “ok” and try to pretend their computer wasn’t some kind of evil death machine that smelled like smoke when you ran too many programs

(Just a little Valentine’s day Romy fanfic with accompanying fanart done during my commute today. Happy Valentine’s!
PS: It’s set after the current Rogue & Gambit miniseries. Even if I don’t know what the hell is gonna happen in it XD).
***Valentine’s Day***
She didn't often take time out.
There was always something occupying her, teaching or superheroing or mentoring or shopping or organising or hanging out with friends... Training and sparring and conferring with teammates over strategy, policy, PR and legal issues… And then tied up with that was study, keeping up with case law, preparing the classes she'd taken, marking assignments and doing student benchmarking...
Really. It'd been a long, long time since she'd had some downtime, since she'd found a moment to wind down. Honestly, she was wound up so tight these days, she was beginning to fear she was on the verge of losing it.
"Take some time off," Kitty had said to her. "Go on vacation."
And she'd scoffed and said:
"But I'm needed here."
"Rogue," Kitty had said in that headmistress voice she was becoming so accomplished at using, "you're no good to us on the verge of a mental breakdown. You need some time to relax, to reset yourself. When was the last time you took a holiday?"
She'd stared blankly at the wall. For the life of her she couldn't remember.
"See?" Kitty had piped up pointedly. "Look. Take a break. Go somewhere nice. Somewhere you can relax. Bermuda. The Seychelles.  I went to Lisbon last summer. It was gorgeous. And everyone speaks awesome English. You'll love it!"
She'd frowned. Somehow she didn't feel she was allowed to relax. How messed up was that?
"I dunno, Kit-Kat..."
"Rogue," came the severe reply, "Go. That's an order."
"Oh yeah? Or what?"
"Or I tell Gambit you need some time off, and get him to book you both on a dirty weekend away."
Well, that had sealed the deal.  She stomped off in a huff, and once she’d got back to her room, she booked herself some holiday.  Three days – not too long, but enough to keep Kitty from making good on her threat.
A few days later and here she was.
Valle Soleada, standing in front of the house Irene had left her.
It was a long time since she'd been here. She'd half considered selling it, or renting it out, but for some reason she never had. Standing here, on this lazy California beach with the sun pounding down on her, she was reminded why. There were few places she'd truly felt at ease, at peace. Some of the happiest moments of her life had taken place here, moments that now seemed so bittersweet. It was that bittersweetness that had made her reluctant to return, that had kept her away so long. But now... She was glad she was back. She felt liberated, free from all the cares and responsibilities that came with all the superheroics that were her business.
She gave a little smile to herself and walked the wooden steps up to the veranda. She felt in the pocket of her denim cut-offs for the keys and unlocked the door. When she stopped inside the vestibule she was surprised at how fresh and inviting everything seemed. She paid a maid to come and take care of the place every week, just to keep it in a liveable condition, with the intention of spending more time here than she actually did. She didn't regret the decision now.
She dumped her bags in the hallway and immediately went straight out the back door and onto the beach. A warm sea breeze hit her, the sound of the waves washing over the shore a glorious soundtrack that she realised she'd missed. How many times had that sound lulled her to sleep at night as she'd lain in the warmth of his embrace?
She half frowned, half smiled. The memories were pleasant yet... irritating. Irritating because they were so damn perfect, and she'd been stupid enough to let perfection go.
Things change, gal, she told herself sternly. But some things didn't, and trying to make sense of the stew left behind was something she'd never been particularly good at.
She gave a sigh and headed back indoors. She was wondering now whether she could brave heading into certain areas of the house, but she figured she was a big girl and if she didn't face this now she never would.
So she picked up her bags and climbed the stairs up to the bedroom, and gently opened the door.
She'd slept in here once since they'd left. She'd taken some time out after the whole Legacy thing, trying to re-orientate herself. After one night she'd moved to one of the guest bedrooms, finding the ghost of his presence a distraction from the purpose of her visit. It hadn't changed much since then. The maid did a great job keeping everything dust and dirt free. A light fragrance filled the air and she realised her housekeeper had left a cute little bowl of pot pourri on the dresser. She laid her bags down on the bed and peered into the closet. Her leathers were still hanging up in there, and she gave a wry grimace. Somehow, it felt like a different person had worn them.
She wasn't sure where his old X-Treme uniform was. She'd definitely seen him wearing the boxing boots once or twice since, but the rest...
She shook her head and closed the closet, moving on.
The curtains were closed and so she went on over and opened them up, throwing the window open too while she was at it. The room was suddenly filled with light and air and the scent of the sea, and she breathed it in with relish.
That was when she heard a sound. Floorboards creaking down the corridor.
Her senses were immediately alert, and she crossed the room back to the door, the adrenaline kicking in, her muscles getting ready for a fight. The footsteps were suddenly right outside the door, and she was just about to yank it open when it swung right open and slammed into the wall with a bang.
She gaped.
In the doorway was Remy LeBeau.
"R-Remy?!" she exclaimed ; and she might've believed this was all just a dream until he cried in exactly the same tone of voice:
"Rogue!"
"I thought you were in intruder!" they both said at the same time, which shut them up for a few seconds.
She glared at him. Standing there in sweatpants and a T-shirt with bleary eyes and a bedhead. It was clear she'd literally just woken him up.
"What are you doing here?" she asked him testily, cross that he'd spoiled her vacation yet again.
"On vacation," he answered in an equally sour tone - he was probably thinking the exact same thing.
"So am I," she huffed. "And this is my house."
"So?" he grumbled. "I got here first. Got everything unpacked and I stocked up the fridge and all. So I ain't goin' nowhere, if that's what you're suggestin'."
She growled. There was no way in hell she was leaving now, not for his benefit.
"Fine," she said. "Just... Just don't ... Get in my way. Okay?"
He quirked an eyebrow at her.
"Oh right. I'm the one should be sayin' that to you, chere. You're the one goin' round makin' noise and spoilin' my beauty sleep."
"It ain't my fault you're such a light sleeper!" she groused. "I could drop a pin and you'd hear it! Remember that time when--"
She quickly caught herself mid-sentence. He saw the look and smirked.
"No need t' say it, petite. I know what you're thinkin'."
She blushed. The only things to come out of that little incident had been the discovery that Gambit could not be handcuffed to a bed without being woken up (one accidental little jangle of the chain had had him sitting bolt upright in a flash), and a couple of days worth staggering around because all sorts of unmentionable muscles were unbearably sore.
"Look," she began, chastened out of her bad mood by the memory. "Truth is, I came here to unwind, to have a little space to myself for a couple of days. I was kind of expectin' to be on my own... But I ain't gonna throw you out on your ear, Cajun, and it's nothin' personal. Just... lemme have my own space and we're good. Okay?"
With him, honesty was always pretty much the best policy - ironic, considering the trouble he had with it himself. He put up his hands with an agreeable little smile.
"A'right. I'll keep outta your hair, if that's what you want.  Don't wanna get in the way of your 'me time'."
He backed off slowly, but the smile on his face told her he wasn't being sarcastic. After the turmoil and angst their relationship seemed to have been in recently, it was a welcome relief.
"Thanks," she said softly.
"No problem." He half turned to leave, before adding with a pointed look at her: "Yah need anythin', I'm in the guest room down the hall.  Where Sam used t'stay."
And with that he left.
-oOo-
After that it was useless to have any ‘me time’.  Not because she found his presence off-putting per se, but because she was trying to analyse everything.
She wondered why he was sleeping in Sam’s old room and why he was even here at all. She wondered why seeing him here had rattled her so much and why she’d been so defensive.  Since their time in Paraiso things had been… good between them. The last thing she’d wanted to do was spoil that.
It was just that he had endless ways of catching her unawares, of getting up under her skin without even meaning to.
Truly, she’d come here to be by herself.  But she felt guilty now for insinuating that him being here offended her.  She didn’t want him to think that, because it wasn’t what she felt.  The past few weeks things had changed between them, for the better… And she didn’t want to lose that.  It just felt… weird… not to be slapping away his affection at every corner because of her own fears, her own inadequacies, and really… He hadn’t even offered any affection.  Even if she secretly knew that he was always offering it, with a simple glance or a smile.
Besides, she couldn’t stay cooped up in here like this, not in their old room.  It was only bound to make things worse.
So she sighed and left, headed out and down the corridor to the guest room.  She gave a knock and when she heard his “come in!”, she entered.
She was surprised to see he was packing.
“You’re leavin’?” she asked.
“Yeah.” He didn’t look put out by it, contrary to expectation. “Figured it’d be best.  You’re here for some space, and I’d just get in the way.” He folded up a shirt and put it inside his duffel bag before standing straight and glancing at her. “Don’t look at me like that, chere. I ain’t angry ‘bout it.  Just don’t wanna mess up your vacation.  Or mine, neither.”
That stunned her.
“You think we’d mess up each other’s vacations?” She couldn’t help looking a little hurt at that. “Remy, honestly… You don’t haveta go.  I’m sorry I sounded so… pissed off back there.  I didn’t mean it.”
He regarded her a moment, apparently turning her suggestion over in her head.
“Rogue,” he finally spoke with sincerity. “We can both kid ourselves that you and I are gonna stay in this house and not disturb one another, but seriously.  You and I both know that ain’t gonna happen.”
She chewed on her lip.  After what happened in Paraiso, he was probably right.  The only thing was, she didn’t think she’d mind so much anymore.
“Well, where’re you gonna stay then?” she asked him.
“Oh, Paint and Jack’ll let me sleep on their couch, if I promise to babysit their kids.” He paused and glanced at her. “You remember Paint and Jack, right?”
This time she was really offended.
“Of course I do!” She pouted. “Yah mean you’re still in touch with them?”
“Well, yeah. I pay ‘em both a visit every time I’m down here.  They always ask after you.  Keep on goin’ on about seein’ you on the TV wit’ your Avenging friends. I tell ‘em you’re doin’ great. Although most of the time, I don’t really know.”
There was a little bit of bitterness in that statement, but in truth she’d barely heard it. Something else he’d said had caught her attention.
“Wait… … You said ‘every time you visit’… … How often do you actually come down here?”
He shrugged, going back to his packing.
“Once every couple of months…  For the same reason you’re here.  To get some time out.  To be alone. To get a little perspective.  To remember.”
The last was lightly delivered, but said a lot more than any of the other stuff. She swallowed a breath.  She was both touched and humbled to hear him admit that he came here often, and that a part of him came to remember what they’d shared here.  She was affected even more so that he’d maintained a life here, kept their old friends and probably hung out at their old haunts.  It made her feel like she’d run away from just another good thing in her life, like she’d thrown away yet another something that could and should have made her happy.
“Okay,” she finally said in a small voice. “Well, I’ll feel better knowing you’ll be stayin’ with friends… I don’t wanna turf ya out…”
“Rogue,” he spoke firmly. “It’s fine.  Don’t worry. Take some time out, relax.  God knows you need it.  Just promise me you won’t do no work, okay?  I jes’ know you brought those kids’ assignments wit’ you.  If you take ‘em out, I’m gonna steal ‘em and hide ‘em somewhere you can’t find ‘em.”
He’d said it to make her laugh, but all she could manage was a faint smile.
“I won’t, Remy.  Promise.”
Her ears were starting to rush and her heart was starting to pound, and it was becoming way too much for her to process, so she left.
-oOo-
She stood at the window of her room, their room, and struggled with herself.
Why had she walked away?  Why couldn’t she be brave enough to open herself up to him and let him in?  Still, after all this time and all the ground they’d recently covered?
You love him, she told herself helplessly. So go back and tell him.  Tell him you don’t want him to go.
The thought had her trembling, had her stomach in knots.  She squeezed her eyes shut and breathed.  She tried to talk herself into the thing she wanted most in the world. How hard can it be to reach for the thing that you want?
She’d almost psyched herself up to just go and do it when he got there before her.  The door to their room opened softly, and quietly he crossed the floorboards and came up behind her.  There was nothing so sweet or so comforting as the way his arms wrapped round her, the way he held her tight, the way he pressed his face into her hair.
And suddenly it was all bleeding out of her, the tightly coiled knot inside her was unwinding, and she was herself again, even if only for just a moment.
“D’you really want me to go?” he asked her, and she leaned back into him, shook her head.
“No.”
And they stayed just like that for a while, watching the seagulls circling the sky and listening to the lullaby of the sea, just as they’d always done.
“You do know what day today is, chere?” he murmured, brushing his lips in her hair. For a second she was nonplussed, until she remembered.  February 14th.
“Aw, geez,” she muttered humorously. “Fate sure has a way of kickin’ me in the ass.”
“I dunno,” he chuckled. “I think fate brought us here, together, on this very special day, for a reason.” He propped his head on her shoulder. “Y’wanna work out what that reason might be?”
She twisted her head and gave him an arch look.
“Neither of us needs a reason, sugah,” she bantered back. “Except that I love you; and I’m pretty sure you love me.”
“Amen to that, p’tite,” he grinned; and they both laughed lightly before sharing the first of many kisses that night.

I do some fan-fac short stories from time to time. Wrote this a LONG WHILE ago to address something that before the #Rogue & #Gambit mini had not even been brought up before. References stuff from the last arc of Chris Claremont’s X-Treme X-Men. In it, Gambit and Storm made out. It was random and pretty provocative and came out of left field. All the times that several years after that Rogue had gained control of her powers and began borrowing abilities from those around her on a regular basis. What if after one of these instances accidentally took too much from #Storm and got whiff of that kiss? Let me know what you think.
TOTAL RECALL
It’d been weeks since she’d spent more than a few hours at the mansion. Being an Avenger had taken over her life so much, it barely felt like home anymore. She’d been aimlessly wandering the halls for hours. Rogue wasn’t lost, per say, she was trying to make sense of some images in her mind. Not too long ago she was forced to absorb Storm’s powers, but the situation was so frantic she didn’t have the presence of mind to not take anything else. Something, other than the Weather Witch’s powers, had come along for the ride. A single memory of her closest friend and debatably the love of her life, passionately kissing by a waterfall while said friend lacked any bit of clothing. It didn’t compute to her. There wasn’t a timeframe in which she could place it happening that she and Remy or Ororo and T’Challa weren’t together in some fashion or another.
Lost in thought, she snapped back to her senses in time to see she was about to cross paths with Gambit in the hallway. Every fiber of her being wanted to corner him and drag the truth out. But she hesitated. They’d barely spoken in weeks and he’d been so involved in his own world it felt out of place to go at him in a hostile manner over something that could have happened years ago… or last week. Besides, she thought, he’d probably charm and snake his way out of it, probably calm me down in the process. She didn’t want that. Rogue wanted to preserve the rawness of it all. This first had to be between Storm and herself before anyone else, even Gambit. It was late though and she thought it best to address it come the morning. So she decided to get a quick bite and then hit the sheets.
As she turned the corner into the mansion’s obnoxiously large kitchen she quickly realized fate had other plans of how she’d spend the remainder of her evening. Storm sat alone at the breakfast nook’s table nursing a cup of tea. The beautiful Nubian X-Man ran her hand through her wild, white, Mohawk and nonchalantly turned toward the kitchen’s threshold as Rogue sauntered in.
“Good evening, child…” Storm sang in the calming way she’s known for.
“Ro…” Rogue responded almost curtly. She couldn’t believe how hard it was to be angry at Storm, but she still found herself sizing the woman up.
“I see you are having as much difficulty finding sleep as I am” she assumed, as she casually crossed her legs. She then pulled the string of a soggy tea bag from her cup and laid it on a small saucer that rested underneath.
“Ah guess so…” Rogue walked across the room and sat in the nook’s window seat and starred out of the window into the night sky.
Storm knew her friend all too well and had become accustomed to picking up on Rogue’s mannerisms when something was bothering her. Her body language was stiff, but the fact that she chose to sit away from her and avoid eye contact threw her for a loop. If she didn’t know any better, she’d swear they weren’t talking to one another.
“Is something bothering you, Anna?” Storm asked cautiously, just slightly cocking her head to the side as she studied her fellow X-Man.
For the second time that night, Rogue hesitated. She wanted to get right down to it, but in a way, she also didn’t want to know.
“If ah’ asked yah a question…” Rogue paused. “Even it’s crazy, or perhaps none of mah business… would yah answer me straight, Storm?” Rogue turned and looked her friend straight in the eye.
Storm immediately felt her guard go up. She didn’t do it consciously, but she definitely felt backed into a corner, and this was just a lead in question. She figured it was of a personal nature, perhaps about her divorce from ‘Challa, or goddess forbid, having to do with Rogue’s “Ex”, Magneto. Reluctantly, Storm took a long silent breath and smiled. “If it would help put whatever is bothering so to rest… yes, Rogue, I would… I will”
Rogue almost regretted hearing those truthful, painfully sincere words. She swallowed and hugged herself in a way she hadn’t in a long time. Not since she’d been in control of her powers. She felt her throat tighten and her eyes burn just slightly as her resolve began to crumble, but before that happened she thought it best to spit it out.
“A couple days ago, when ah’ absorbed yah powers… Ro’ ah’ took something else with them.  A memory, maybe a dream, Ah don’t know how old it is but...”
Storm involuntarily raised a single brow. She couldn’t think of anything that could disturb Rogue like she was seeing. She wasn’t the saint most people make her out to be, she knew that, but there were only a few issues that could shake a woman that had fought and beaten gods.
“Ah-Ah took a really vivid image of yah and Remy… kissing”
And that was one of those issues.
If it were a button, it was a big red one that had the words “DO NOT PUSH” printed in bold letters across it. What made it all the worse was she knew exactly what kiss she was referring to. She and Remy had kissed plenty of times in the past but that was one that if they weren’t interrupted, may have turned into something more, perhaps much more. Her feelings for Remy weren’t inherently sexual or wholly romantic. It was a relationship of familiarity. She felt as comfortable kissing him as she would her husband, but Storm held him in the esteem of her most trusted confidant. Their relationship was platonic, but always held a spark of ‘what if ‘ within it.
Storm’s posture changed from concerned to flattened to ashamed in a matter of seconds. The back of her neck was burning and her throat had all but dried. She unconsciously took a sip of her tea, almost afraid to break eye contact with the other young woman. “Anna…”
“Ah mean really kissing… kissing yah, like he’d kiss me.” Rogue continued, almost mechanically. “Yah was near a waterfall, ah think?”
She wasn’t a fool by any measure. Rogue noticed the shift in Storm’s demeanor and through that knew what she was saying held some kind of validity. This made her a bit more desperate, and oddly enough wanted to deal with it even less. What if more happened? What if it just wasn’t a kiss? The sheer idea of it horrified and terrified both at the same time. “Can ya, help me understand it, Ro’… this was before me and him, right? Ah’m overreacting, aren’t ah?”
Storm looked downright sheepish. She knew how to lie, but how do you mislead someone that you knew, knew the truth and even had proof. Even worse, she owned it. If they shared the same memory, then Rogue had seen the whole thing through a first-person view, her view no less. No. She wasn’t going to lie to her friend.
“Rogue… it was not- it did not mean anything”
“Yah were naked…” Rogue leaned forward with her hands placed on her knees for support as she looked at Storm with suspiciously narrowed green eyes. “Ya were naked as a wet bullfrog on a log in the middle of summer, sugah… and as for it not meanin’ nothin’ for yah, ah’m rememberin’ a whole lottah emotion from yah but indifference wasn’ once of em’, hun. Concern? Maybe” she leaned back with her arms crossed across her chest. “But more excitement, enough to override any unease, at least.”
Storm had recovered from the initial shock of it all while Rogue spoke. She had the time to regroup her emotions and she found that she wasn’t in the mood to explain herself to Rogue on the matter of Remy, especially with the track record she’d had with him as of late.
“Rogue, I apologize for it happening, but it was some time ago.” Storm began as she moved her eyes up to meet her friend’s own. “However, I do wholeheartedly regret it happened while the two of you were still together…”
“While we were together?!” Rogue exclaimed.  “Just when do-… yah mean when me an’ Remy had lost our powers an’ the two of yah met up while he was away?” Rogue started putting the pieces together. Mostly due to the nature of her powers and the way they worked in terms of recalling foreign memories. The more Storm spoke, the clearer the memory got for her. Rogue closed her eyes and grasped her head. More and more of the moment began to flood into the forefront of her mind.
Concerned, Storm stood up and stepped toward Rogue placing her hands on her shoulders “My friend, do not torture yourself with-”
“Shut up!” Rogue snapped, pushing Storm away. A long time ago, that same reaction would have put Storm through a wall and in the ICU for weeks, if not killed her outright. “Ya betrayed me! Ah- Ah know how ya felt when ya kissed’em, don’t try n’dance around it, Storm”
Storm kept her composure and her distance from Rogue. She understood that Rogue had grown and matured since her younger years, but she also knew her well enough to realize that this could escalate into more than a war of words if not handled cautiously.
“I betrayed you? Child, not to sound insensitive-… no, I will if it is necessary.” Storm took a step forward and calmly crossed her arms in front of her. “You aren’t the impertinent child I once knew. It’s far past time someone spoke to you without fear of hurting your feelings”
“About what exactly?” Rogue asked with a sarcastic smirk and matched her friend’s demeanor.
“Magneto.” Storm spat. “I did not think that would be much of a surprise, to be honest.” Storm took another step forward.
“What are yah- No! That’s none of ya damn business, Storm!” Rogue shouted and stood. She then cautiously scanned the room. She didn’t realize how loud her voice had gotten. The last thing she wanted was to have her personal life become ‘the talk of the town’, again. “Mah personal life, is mine, yah got that?”
“Not when that personal life includes one of our oldest, tried and truest foes, child.” Storm curtly retorted, emphasizing on the word ‘child’. “I understand why he was on Utopia with us. We needed his might, his name. But I cannot for the life of me comprehend why you chose to be with him. Did you ever stop to think what that would mean to us, to the X-Men, or for that matter, to Remy?”
The mention of his name made Rogue break eye contact with Storm.  Out of all the reasons she named, that was the only one that held real weight with her. Of course, she thought about Remy and but she rationalized that away with the need to think about what her heart wanted… or was it more what Legacy wanted? “And what does it matter any? Erik and ah’ are over, Storm... Don’t try tah change the subject!”
“And what is the subject exactly, Rogue?” Storm asked with an arched brow, shifting her weight onto her heels. “Your precious feelings?”
“Feelings? An’ what exactly do you know about feelings as o’late, Ro? You've been colder than Bobby since you and T’Challa separated…” Rogue snarled. “But since you ask me about Remy, let me ask you a question … Since he came back to the X-Men, have you once talked to him about what happened with Apocalypse? Or were you too busy running around ya’ palace, and ruling ya’ country with your king?”
 That stung. She hadn’t spoken her ex-husband’s name aloud to many people since the annulment. Storm looked past Rogue into the darkened heavens and then with an uncharacteristically malicious smirk she responded;
“My marriage was probably as distracting for myself as much as the view of Magneto’s room's ceiling was for you…”
Rogue didn’t expect something so coarse from Storm. But nothing as of late had been overly typical of Storm’s behavior. She had a bitterness to her that Rogue had never seen in her before. But truth be told, Rogue didn’t mind going tit for tat.
“Ouch, Stormy. Didn’t think ya had it in yah…” Rogue said with an exaggerated ‘hurt’ facial expression and her right hand faintly land upon her chest “Did Logan teach you that during pillow-talk, or was he too busy-” Rogue’s comeback was interrupted by Storm’s fist striking her jaw.
The young woman stumbled back against the wall paneling that separated the breakfast nook window another large pane of glass and slide down it, stunned. Rogue was genuinely surprised. She’s heard villains, racists, bigots and everything in between say and do far worse without her losing her composure. In a way, it made the strike hurt even more… but not so much as to let it go unanswered.
Rogue blinked looking up at the Amazon. Storm’s eyes were on fire and at the same time in pain. Rogue swallowed and wiped a tiny trickle of blood from the corner of her mouth with the back of her hand. Then all in one motion she sneered, turned onto her side and swept Storm clean off of her feet. She fell to kitchen’s warm wood paneled floor with a “thud”. Before Storm could gather herself, Rogue had scrambled back onto her feet and dove onto her teammate. Once she pinned Storm’s left arm down with her leg, Rogue delivered solid blow across her once perfectly smooth cheek.
A flash of blood and saliva escaped Storm’s mouth as her head snapped to the right. Years of combat training allowed the weather-witch to respond near instinctively. With her free arm, she pushed Rogue back and then contorted her body enough to reach forward with both of her legs and wrapped them around Rogue’s head. Then like a rubber band, slung the younger woman backward and off of her. By time Rogue had been able to look up, Storm was already in an all-fours crouch, a manner that reminded her of the Black Panther. With speed Rogue could compare the same to, Storm landed a stiff kick across her teammate’s face sending her careening into the table where she once sat.
With a loud crash, the table flipped over sending everything upon it into the adjacent wall and shelving. Rogue lay shaken amongst the rubble of broken wood for quick a moment, then launched her into the air with a roar. Storm matched her howl as they collided and fell to the ground once more, both with hands firmly clasped around the other’s throat. They exchanged wide-eyed, enraged glares with one another just before either realized what they were doing. At that moment, both women seemed to experience an epiphany. Grips loosened. Breathing resumed. Tension plummeted.
“WHAT IN THE HELL IS GOING ON IN HERE?!” The outraged shriek of Kitty Pryde echoed throughout the room. The combatants broke their gaze on each other to notice Kitty, half their teammates, and even several of the students were standing awestruck in the kitchen doorway, among them, the topic of the night, Gambit, who was as confused as anyone.
“Wouldn’t we get detention for this?” Quentin Quire rhetorically questioned. “The hypocrisy…”
The two women then looked at one another again and then broke out in hearty laughter that frightened and confused the crowd even more. They helped each other up, shared a long hug and strolled out of the kitchen together arm in arm. Rogue broke her laughter long enough to glare at Gambit just for a second as she bumped past him. The stare was long enough and the bump hard enough for Wolverine, who was amongst the gathering, to pick up on. He jabbed Gambit in the ribs with his elbow.
“What the hell did you do this time, Cajun?” Logan probed. Gambit, however, responded with a simple shrug.
“Dunno…”

Hey, I'm pretty new to xmen, but Kurt is 1000% my fave. I was wondering which comics I should read to get more of his story! I love your blog too great stuff
Okay, first of all: there are too many books he appears in, so I just tried to list some important ones (and this not even close to listing everything!) And if you want to simply read books he is in, you really need to go through many team books.
The easy part, Nightcrawler series:
- Nightcrawler (1985-1986) - 4 issue- Nightcrawler Vol 2 (2002-2002)- 4 issue- Nightcrawler Vol 3 (2004-2006) - 12 issue- Nightcrawler Vol 4 (2014-2015) - 12 issue
- X-Men: Manifest Destiny Nightcrawler #1 (May, 2009)- X-Men Origins: Nightcrawler #1 (May, 2010)
———————————————————————————
Some important appearance/story from the beginning until now:
- Uncanny X-Men: start with his first appearance in Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975) but I’d say read UXM of 80’s.(AND/OR read Classic X-Men, which is a reprint of uncanny issues, but with new panels/stories!-Classic X-Men #1-45,-X-Men Classic #46-110)
- Excalibur (1988-1998) - a must
(After Excalibur he’s in Uncanny X-Men again - from 1998, so you can continue here )
- in 2003 he gets an origin story ‘Draco’ in Uncanny X-Men by Chuck Austen (but you need to know, it’s one of the most hated X-Men stories. For reasons.)Chuck Austen’s run on UXM: #410-441, and Draco: #428-434 (2003)(And before Chuck Austen, the priest story happend.)
- Uncanny X-Men by Chris Claremont from #444 (2004) (better story, good art)
- X-Men: Second Coming related books (2010) - (he dies here)
- Amazing X-Men (2014) 19 issues (resurrected) - a must( the last solo series begins in 2014 too)
- Extraordinary X-Men (2015) -  (it’s not the best Nightcrawler story again…)
- X-Men Gold - current X-book  - (it’s ok so far)
——————————————————————————
Significant Issues: (by marvel universe wiki)
Killed foster brother (X-Men Annual #4, 1980); first joined X-Men (Giant-Size X-Men #1, 1975); first used image inducer (Classic X-Men #4, 1986); first blended with shadows (X-Men #102, 1976); first encountered Mystique (X-Men #141, 1981); injured by Marauders (Uncanny X-Men #211, 1986); co-founded Excalibur (Excalibur: The Sword is Drawn, 1988); regained full powers (Excalibur #37, 1991); formed N-Men (Excalibur #45, 1991); learned Mystique is mother (X-Men Unlimited #4, 1994); rejoined X-Men (Uncanny X-Men #360/X-Men #80, 1998); first seen studying for priesthood (X-Men #100, 2000); first encountered Supreme Pontiff (Uncanny X-Men #400, 2001); quit priesthood (Uncanny X-Men #419, 2003); learned Azazel is father (Uncanny X-Men #432, 2003); died (X-Force #26, 2010)————————————————————————
A few issues I can think of and recommend:
(there’s definitely much more!)
- Amazing Spider-man 161 & 162  (1976)- Guardians Team-Up #6 (2015)- Deadpool/Spider-Man  #14 (2016)- Deadpool (2012) #27 (wedding)- Nation X #1 (2009) - (road trip)- Wolverine (2003) #6 - (I don’t need to say anything here :D)- Axis revolution #2- Classic X-Men #4 - The Big Dare! - Male Bonding (Marvel Comics Presents, #101 - 108) (with Wolverine)- Wolverine weapon X #16 (2009) - Death of Wolverine: Life after Logan (2014)- Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur #17 (2017)- Exiles #28-30 (2001) - (meets his daughter from another universe)- Bizarre adventue  #27 (1981) (mentioned in his first solo series)- What If? Vol 2 #98 (if Mystique had raised Kurt)- Uncanny X-Men #204
—————————————————————————
A comic made exclusively for the movie: X-Men 2 (2003):
X-Men 2: Nightcrawler - Official Movie Prequel
—————————————————————————
Alternate univers Kurt
(this is not in order)
- Kurt Darkholme / Age of Apocalypse Nightcrawler (Killer version of Nightcrawler): Uncanny X-Force Vol 1 , X-Calibre, X-Termination 1 & 2, Age of Apocalypse Vol 1, Astonishing X-Men Vol 3
- Kurt Waggoner (Kid version of Nightcrawler): X-Treme X-Men Vol 2Astonishhing X-Men Vol 3————————————————————————
And lastly here’s another longer list of important issues about Kurt that are worth a read:
https://uncannyxmen.net/characters/nightcrawler/checklist————————————————————————I hope it helps. If anyone wants to add something to the list, please do!I might’ve made mistakes; in that case let me know.
