@codebestowed - starter!!
He didn't have any memories of falling asleep, but he knew that he must have; there was no other way that Riku could have found himself slowly coming to and waking up on the hard ground. It was cold and dusted with a thin layer of snow that must have started falling after he had hit the ground judging from the light dusting that covered his hair and jacket. His sneakers crunched against the dead leaves and twigs that were scattered about as he pushed himself to stand, and he couldn't help but dimly note the way his breath puffed out in front of him.
Funny. It was cold and he could feel it was cold, and he could see it was cold... but it didn't really... it didn't feel right. The unpleasant sharp sting that should have come with it, the feeling of something harsh snapping at his ears or fingertips just wasn't there.
Cerulean eyes slowly panned across the area he was in. It looked like a small garden, complete with a well and a stone path that ran from one large and ornate doorway to another. The architecture was old and reminded him of a place he had once been, a world filled with warriors and dragons and-
"Nnn." A sharp stab of pain ricocheted through his skull, immediately ending and erasing that thought.
-- no, it reminded him of... pictures he had seen of Shinto temples. That... that was it.
When he glanced do at himself, Riku could see he was wearing dark boots, blue pants, a pale shirt, and a jacket that tapered off into a strange plaid designed complete with yellow accents. It was wholly unfamiliar to him and a thought that had been circling in the back of his head started to slowly cement itself into certainty. "Am I... dreaming?"
"Riku..."
The voice was unfamiliar and was coming from behind one of closed doors. Despite being unable to put a face to the voice, he stepped forward and stretched a hand out as if he could grasp hold of the unseen speaker. "Hello?" There was no answer, of course. There was no one there.
"Because this is all just a dream."
If this was all just a dream - and most certainly it had to be - then there wasn't much else for Riku to do aside from just explore. It seemed like a logical enough conclusion to draw out of an entirely illogical situation and he started forward, heading in the direction of the voice he heard.
Before reaching the door his foot connected with something hard buried beneath the fallen snow. The kick didn't hurt, but the near-stumble had him looking down. It was something black and square-ish, and after reaching down to grab it he could more clearly see that it was a camera. An old camera.
"Okay." Something close to a laugh escaped him as he straightened and held it up in front of his face, peering into the shutter eye as if expecting to see someone staring back. He had never seen anything quite like this in person before, and it looked like it should have been in a museum. It didn't seem to be in bad shape, just old... which made the fact that he had found it on the ground even... odder.
Dreams never make any sense. With that thought he pressed down on the shutter, camera held out so that he could snap a picture of himself.
