Musical Munday
//This week's ballad is called Frankie and Johnny, although it goes by numerous other titles, including Frankie and Albert. It is about the 1899 murder of Albert Britt by Frankie Baker. Contrary to the lyrics, Frankie was never tried for the crime and lived out the majority of her life in a psychiatric facility. This is a rare instance of a published song with a known composer becoming a folksong. There are over 300 documented variants of this ballad.
Some things may be lost on a modern audience, so some clarifications:
1.) "Paid out $100 for a suit of Johnny's clothes." $100 in 1899 would be the equivalent of $3591 today. So that is definitely noteworthy.
2.) "A bucket of beer" does literally mean a bucket full of beer. Not bottles, just beer. This was actually incredibly common at the time. In large cities, drinking water was often hazardous. But the process by which beer is made kills the organisms that cause various water-borne illnesses. It was also much less alcoholic than beer today.
3.) "Bring out the rubber tired buggy, bring out the rubber tired hack." These are both types of horsedrawn vehicles, although the rubber tired buggy may also refer to a horseless carriage. Cars as we know them did not exist at the time. In the song, the speaker means these to refer to a hearse and police vehicles.

— WHO IS CARSEN MUN TAEJUN?
he's a NINETEEN year old wannabe, born MAY 5, 2005. he's currently undecided and lives by the words “in my dream, i am the president. when i awake, i am the beggar of the world.”
maybe you should learn more or ask him a question.
▶ PLAY THE CLIP [ audition_tape.mp4 ]
[ RECORDED MARCH 20, 2024 ]
The small dorm room was dimly lit by the late afternoon sun filtering through vertical blinds, and casting zebra-striped shadows across Taejun's face. His phone balanced precariously on a stack of textbooks - his makeshift recording setup. The then 18-year-old's fingers fidgeted with the hem of his oversized white t-shirt, a nervous habit he developed during his countless hours of practice. Taejun made sure that his room was meticulously cleaned for this recording. Even his bed had been made with military precision - a fact his navy admiral father would be proud of.
Taking a final deep breath, he reached forward and pressed record. His hands trembled slightly, but his eyes were bright with determination. This wasn’t just another YouTube cover for his JudeSound channel - this was his shot at something bigger. A chance to show Studio Delta what he was made of. As the familiar opening notes of Bruno Mars' "It Will Rain" began to play, something in Taejun's demeanor shifted. The nervous teenager transformed into a performer, his posture straightening as the melody flowed through his body.
His tenor voice emerged, starting soft but clear and grew in confidence with each lyric. Years of listening to his father's collection of Motown records blended seamlessly with a smidge of Korean ballad, creating a unique vocal color that Taejun often was told set him apart.
As he approached the chorus, his voice soared effortlessly into his upper register, the high notes rang pure and true. His hand gestures were minimal but purposeful, adding emphasis but without appearing rehearsed. The inflections of R&B in his voice become more pronounced, showing of his musical versatility as he added subtle runs and grace notes that weren't in the original.
He then  brought the one minute cover to an end with a controlled vibrato showcasing his raw vocals skill, the final note hung in the air. Then without missing a beat, he transitioned into his introduction, with a genuine and engaging smile.
** ”안녕하세요, 저는 카슨 태준입니다," he said before seamlessly switching to English, "but you can call me Jude. I'm 18 years old, from Chicago and my dream is to become a singer, and someone who can create and produce music that touches people's hearts. I want to learn everything about writing and producing.” His rehearsed delivery struck a perfect balance - confident enough to show he believed in himself, but humble enough to show his willingness to learn and grow.
With a final smile, Taejun leaned forward and stopped the recording, releasing a long breath he didn’t realize he’d been holding. His shoulders relaxed as the performance tension began to melt away. Playing back the video, Taejun’s expression cycled between critical analysis and hopeful optimism. His fingers drummed against his knee - another nervous habit - as he watched himself on screen. Despite his perfectionist tendencies, even he had to admit: this might be the one. This might be the video that changes everything.

//So we know Angel writes his own music. Or appears to, at least, based on Addict. Which leads me to wonder at his musical background. I'm sure he was around music growing up. He lived in NYC in the 1910s to the 1940s. There was a lot going on musically in New York at the time. Jazz in Harlem, all sorts of swing, big band, what have you. And I wonder, too, if he learned any traditional songs from his family. When did he start writing music? When and how did he learn to do that or was it just something he discovered he could do? How has that progressed and developed over the years to the point of what we see (and, more importantly, hear) in Addict? I have many questions, which I intend to suss out answers for. But as a last note, holy god, singing and pole dancing simultaneously. This boy's got some stamina.

hey, everyone!! i’m super late but here i am (: i’m lana, and i’m seho’s mun. i’m really excited to be here with you guys, and also ready to get things running. sorry it took me a day or so to login and see all your lovely messages (which i am going to reply to very soon!!!), but now i’m here to stay. without further ado, let’s talk about my boy!
- nam seho, 23, trainee since 2012 - his main thing is singing. my hc is that he has a very low, soft voice, something around the lines of kyuhyun or even jinyoung himself! a ballad singer is coming to the house, ladies and gentlemen! - personality wise he is very outgoing, very friendly, enjoys being the life of the party. ppl seem to either love him or hate him. he’s not the sort to take things lightly - ends up in lots of fights, lots of arguments. seho is always 100% which can be very tiring at times. his main trope is asshole with a heart of gold, but my main goal is to make him get worse and worse as time goes by haha. because i suck. - stubborn, open minded, determined but also lazy idk if that makes sense, still has a lot of maturing to do, but also loyal af and bscly a guard dog to the ppl he loves. flirty, doesn’t want to be tied down due to some difficult relationship from his high-school years.
some ideas for connections:
- the high school girlfriend haha! what are the odds you both ended up in the same company?? great! messy exes, lots of push and pull, but they’re not good for each other. you try to stay friends, but fight a lot. complicated. difficult. not over yet. no closure. - fwb that gets messy. lines get blurred. you both start to catch some sort of feelings, and you shouldn’t. lots of wtf are we doing etc etc. - the bro!!! his companion!! his best friend!! the kenan to his kell! the ron to his harry! you got the idea pls a good friend. someone who has the same mindset, who gets into trouble, who fucks shit up, who gets ugly. - the brain!!! please a friend who has actual brains and helps him out, or at least try to. i love the whole opposites attract sort of ish, some it’d be cool if he was super close to someone who is more focused and serious. pls let seho make jokes at you while you just look at him all “can you stop” - enemies. i love fight plots so let’s fight!!! another singer. or even someone he said some backhanded shit at some point. he called you out, or at some point you couldn’t take him being loud anymore and called him out. you both can’t stand the sight of each other tho.
i’m sure we can work even more things out and i will, i swear, think of more ideas and put them in a proper plot page. i love brainstorming tho so hmu!!

Some good quality Icelandic Eurovision entries
(As typed by a native Icelandic teen)
Gleðibankinn - Icy
The first ever Icelandic entry & a forever nostalgic bop. The lyrics are sweet (it's not a love song!) & it gets you in a good mood
Draumur um Nínu - Eyjólfur Kristjánsson & Stefán Hilmarsson
A treasure of a song. If you dislike it I will be forced to fight you as a matter of national pride. The lyrics are the sweetest (this one is a love song) and are about a man who's missing the love of his life, roughly speaking. Played as a slow dance song in a lot of school balls.
Þú og þeir (Socrates) - Beat'hoven
A bop. It's mostly just listing of famous/influential people (all men, sadly) but it's great fun.
Nei eða Já - Heart to Heart
It's just such a fun song that you'll feel peppy just listening to it. It is a love song but its not sappy which id a good thing in this case. Just overall a feel good bop.
Minn hinsti dans - Páll Óskar
This entry was a daring one, not gonna lie. The singer is one of our biggest stars & almost his entire discography(?) is amazing. This is kinda of a dark disco track & while not my favourite of his is still good. ( @ clown squad; he has a v sexy bdsm song called Bundinn Fastur (bound tight) that u should check out ;))
Congratulations- Silvia Night
One of my personal favourites. The entire song, performance (u should check it out) & character was a joke but the dear people of Europe took it completely seriously. It's a glorious listen.
Is It True - Yohanna
Our well deserved 2nd place from 2009. The song is beautiful, her voice is breathtaking & the performance was so stable for such a powerful song.
Coming Home - Sjonni's Friends
A wholesome song with such a touching story. The song was originally sent in by the musician Sjonni Brink but he unexpectedly died of a heart attack I think. His friends then got permission from his wife to send the song in together under the name Sjonni's Friends. The song is cute & gets you in a happy mood.
Mundu Eftir Mér - Jónsi & Greta Salóme
In the semi-finals it was performed in English but honestly I prefer the Icelandic version. It's super dramatic & epic and has a sort of fantasy feel to it. The singers are great & the lyrics are really fucking cool.
Ég á líf- Eyþór Ingi Gunnlaugsson
The song is rather simple but the lyrics are so beautiful & his voice is honestly breathtaking. One of the greatest ballads of Eurovision & you may quote me on that. I honestly get chills listening to it.
Hatrið mun sigra - Hatari
Need I say more? Just look at my fucking blog

Tel Aviv 2019: Straight outta Finland to Eurovision with a meme icon and his side-kick
youtube
“heeeeeey what is that song on that video???” Definitely not Darude - Sandstorm. Grow the fuck up.
I mean that they basically threw off the open call for songs from Finnish artists, instead opting for having one artist national final, usually one very known but very gettable-bored-of name so that they could get some more viewership rather when they pick a random nobody from a bunch of other random nobodies. Last year YLE got themselves an artist whose Eurovision ticket was long overdue, but this year they went the extra step and brought us HIM.
Tumblr media
No, not that HIM. They can't go anyway as they've already disbanded. I'm talking about HIM.
Tumblr media
Yes, THAT HIM. Meet Toni-Ville Henrik Virtanen, which thankfully has a pseudonym to publish his music with - Darude. Almost 20 years ago he published this beautiful techno single "Sandstorm" with lyrics like "du du du du du du du du du du du du". And now it's become the big-ass target of memery for the past few years on the Internet, with Darude being very well aware of it all - I don't think he has escaped questions about "Sandstorm" now that the Eurovision interviewers media is on horizon and interviews literally every single representative, no matter if they're shy or unpopular with the bookies at all.
And even if "Sandstorm" was the only thing to shake his tiny little Finnish world, it did not break Darude to be just a one-hit wonder (well he still looks like one but yeah) and he's got more music out ever since. And it probably sounds a little too tragic when YLE resorts to just nagging and begging Darude to represent their nation, even kinda secretly hoping that thanks to him Finland can have a qualification just solely for the meme factor. Darude even said so that he at first rejected their calls, but this year became THE year for him to go, and he's not alone obviously - his credited vocalist friend for this ride to Tel Aviv became Sebastian Rejman, a bit washed-up media star who already did some collaborating with Darude.
So the format was basically the same for this year's UMK - artist announced separately, then each of their 3 songs gets published every week on a specific weekday, with single cover art and a music video already, and the Finnish people together with international juries vote for the best track. Simple as that. Unlike with Saara Aalto though, all Darude & Sebastian songs were barely even distinct from one another in sound - just techno songs that have a piece of "Sandstorm" with themselves. Well only 2 do anyway. But still, techno/house songs to listen to on the radio when you're driving and minding your own business. And I had hard time picking favourites but all of them were alright I guess. Yet somehow my least favourite happened to win... and that was "Look Away", very much so inspired by natural disasters and how do we all ignore everything around us. No matter if it's a storm or hurricane or tornado or wind throwing sand at our eyes.
I don't know why the song didn't click with me all that much at first, I suppose it was because it's just a mindless gloomy techno song that raises global awareness (we already have Denmark talking about that, but they're insisting that "love is forever", while Finland is just... getting up more seriously in all this), and besides that, it's just incredibly repetitive. It consists more of the pre-chorus-ish chorus (I mean the line "is it in my head? Am I the only one?" and that other line preceding) and the actual chorus that mostly goes like "look away, look away, look away...". Even to the point when the song ends with some additional “look away”ing but under a different drum beat. What's it with Finns having a passion for the word "away"? We already had seen them sending a "Sing It Away", which was basically a cheer-up tune telling you to sing your problems off... while this year? We're trying to NOT look into the problems dead in the eye. We're looking... erm, uh, away.
But now I do have to say that I somewhat like it. Tell it to ya - the B minor chord is possibly one of my least favourite music keys, so I might as well be a little bit more negative on it if takes the song with itself to sound incredibly dull and painfully meh. So thankfully we'll be hearing it live half a step lower (idk if that's what it is with most EDM singers in Eurovision that shit like this can be possible, as well as idk why are they allowed into Eurovision in the first place. But seriously, why can't you just choose the same key you sang in in studio for Eurovision...), which made the song sound better to me - as a Nightcore junkie, I am passionate about hearing songs in different keys all the darn time, to see in what key would a certain song sound the best. It's usually the song's key that makes me like a song better or worse live rather than a live performance itself (though in some NFs I can see which of my favourite acts are DoA by not even emoting towards them - my emotion has to be evoked, and if I evoke it on purpose, well then, I'd just rather stay motionless completely on anything and only yelp if a song causes me to do this unexplainedly). We'll see how Sebastian will execute his singing live. As for now, he's the captain of this sinking ship that hit a small iceberg (another one of the disasters we usually "look away" from until it's found in our history books). Not Darude. Darude's just merely a musical hold-up of the disaster. It all has to depend on the vocalist and if the staging clicks with the audience. Sure, Darude can put on a red wig and green sunglasses so that he could click with the meme audience, but that won't get the Finns far.
So I like this song, it actually has some cool musical moments thrown in (I like the piano for one), I can enjoy this off my free time. But Estonia does it better at the "Finno-Ugric EDM-ish entry about Mother Nature's tantrums" category and I ain't even sorry for saying this. But I gotta be sorry for Darude. This year's UMK had the lesser care about it because... well, these songs weren't exactly inspiring or anything, and with people wanting something groundbreaking, their hopes kept on vaning away with each and every song release of the UMK entries': "oh so the next 2 two songs will be good right?" "oh so then the last one will be the best one, yeah right?" "...oh, okay then .-." And him, as the Finnish meme king, should have deserved a better year for a better Eurovision stint, so he could have become something à la Epic Sax Guy. Right now I mostly see a middle-aged DJ with 2 kids, not a redhead dude with green sunglasses looking shadily on us. And that's okay sometimes because memes don't necessarily need to be remembered for memes (just like I mostly remember Kanye West for music, and then memes come second), but Finland's gonna take a miracle to get through, and I hardly see any. That's an aina mun pity.
Approval factor: Eh, it's alright, but I would certainly not hold it up to high regards post-contest? lol.
Follow-up factor: it's kiiiiinda bleak knowing that after giving us probably one of the most favourable dark horse efforts for Eurovision they're now going down the dancier route, with one entry after being a banger, the other being a dad banger. Ah well. It doesn't flow so neatly in my eyes, it seems.
Qualification factor: almost dead in the tracks. Finland flows anywhere they can, having a lot of bad luck for 3 years this decade, and I doubt that the juries will be supporting this heavily, considering they are better at rating good vocalists over bad ones, so I don't think this will sail through. But I secretly have hopes in this. It's not that bad, but Estonia is in this semi too, and it's a friendlier EDM track, so I don't quite think that repetitive will out-compell the good formulaic. Plus, Sebastian has a lot to fix vocally, and I doubt that he will carry Finland any further if he doesn't fix anything, so so far the chances of Finland aren't looking up imo. Bottom 5 at the semi is more likely if not already the actual outcome. Maaaaybe 10th in the semi at best, but I doubt it.
NATIONAL FINAL BONUS
The more this section pops up in my works, the less I wanna recap national finals anymore. I hope there’s more breather moments with me having to review a lot of internal selection songs in between the ones from NFs, because this whole season was an utter disaster, and it’d help if the next one isn’t. So let’s check in on Finland's selection’s best:
• But seriously, did anyone ever see Darude as a Finnish representative coming??? No??? Me neither. I was just sitting there, waiting to see if there's a hope for Mikael Saari (you know, that balladeer guy from previous UMKs - I do believe some audiences love him just as much as Saara Aalto, who only was on one UMK and one Euroviisut) to be announced on this special separate programme. Nope - the trilingual hosting trio of the programme that included Krista Siegfrids in it as the token Swedish speaker just happened to happily proclaim Darude as THE Finnish hopeful... and the world was s h o o k e t h. Just look at him go. His smug grin is still iconic on here.
Tumblr media
• During the wait for all the UMK songs to pile up, the excitement for Darude faded away and everyone moved on to support other countries. I can't blame them, because I have found like one decent song this UMK that's still worth listening to twice a year or so - "Superman". Where Darude becomes the everyday hero for ordinary people that have difficulties in live to do mundane stuff. Maybe this song would have made him look like a better meme than his current entry would have? Just watch him go on his DJ booth dressing like a knock-off superhero because EBU doesn't allow blatant advertising. A way better gimmick than Gromee's snakey hands. Alas, no one will have to hear "Superman" anymore. Granted it's just an EDM song just like any other, but somehow I liked it best, end of.
youtube
• There's at least one memorable screenshot from UMK as well, so I'm happy with that. I saw this pop up on my Twitter time line and I could not stop laughing inside. Seriously. Krista and this other guy should host ESC provided Eurovision is ever coming back to Finland. They had a lot of iconic outfit changes during the NF itself (and the NF itself had "Look Away" with some dancer on a cube but they scrapped the tall cube for Tel Aviv entirely), but those floral onesies are my favourite.
Tumblr media
Now I kinda hope that there’s something that will alarm YLE in the meantime that Finland needs a better approach for Eurovision and we’ll see another fully-fledged UMK in the works next year, and then Finland can be great again. For now, I’ll just wish “onnea” to Darude and Sebastian, with hopes that people don’t look away from their song at all! (but most likely they will so what’s the point.)

Eurovision 2019 my top 41 after show
Tumblr media
Hello!!! And welcome to another episode of this ESC top series, and we go to May 14, 16 and 18, when the 64th edition of the contest was held in Tel Aviv after Netta’s victory in Lisbon. Before the live shows I posted a provisional top and many things have changed so I’ll mark them. Sadly we had to say goodbye to Bulgaria and Ukraine because they withdrew, Bulgaria because of financial reasons and Ukraine because of some problems regarding the selection of the artist (MARUV NOOOOOOOO, still hurts). The winner this edition was The Netherlands with Duncan Laurence and the song Arcade, making this the 5th time they won the contest and the first one after 44 years!!! So let’s go in this musical adventure.
1st Place: THE NETHERLANDS/Duncan Laurence-Arcade (Real Placing: 1st-498 points) (Before the show: 1st place)
I think I manage to guess the winners in odd years, and ladies and gentleman, THIS IS SUPERB, the perfect winner for this year, simply staged, beautiful performance, stunning voice and Duncan is such a cute person, and I’m so happy this won this year, and what a win!!!!!
2nd Place: ITALY/Mahmood-Soldi (Real Placing: 2nd-472 points) (Before the show: 4th place)
SOLDI SOLDI *CLAP CLAP*. Simply one of the best songs this year, this has a lot of quality and it would’ve been an amazing winner, the music is so unique and beautiful and also the lyrics are amazing, maybe the performance wasn’t as spectacular as I thought it would be but it works.
3rd Place: SWITZERLAND/Luca Hänni-She got me (Real Placing: 4th-364 points) (Before the show: 2nd place)
AAAAAAAA FINALLY THEY FINISHED TOP 5 AAAAAAAAAA. I’m so glad because this is one of my fave songs this year and it deserved top 3 tbh, also the staging is so amazing, he managed to deliver an amazing performance while dancing and I enjoyed every piece of this performance. GO SWITZERLAND.
4th Place: AZERBAIJAN/Chingiz-Truth (Real Placing: 8th-302 points) (Before the show: 3rd place)
Whoa, this was lifted to the sky with the performance, Chingiz has an amazing voice and the song itself is very good, it’s catchy, enjoyable and it worked so well at the end, a very good result for them after 5 years of not so great results.
5th Place: ALBANIA/Jonida Maliqi-Ktheju tokës (Real Placing: 17th-90 points) (Before the show: 5th place)
I can’t describe how crazy I’m about this song, her voice is something awesome, the music is epic, and this was stunning, the staging was simple yet effective and I can’t believe it finished very low, I hope Albania keeps sending quality entries like this and Mall.
6th Place: ICELAND/Hatari-Hatrið mun sigra (Real Placing: 10th-232 points) (Before the show: 6th place)
The power this song has is amazing, and the performance is so enchanting and mesmerizing, time passes and I enjoy this song more and more, maybe this is what my life needed, this is an epic song and I’ll always remember this, and it’s a good song when you feel angry.
7th Place: SPAIN/Miki-La venda (Real Placing: 22nd-54 points) (Before the show: 11th place)
ARE YOU SERIOUS THIS FINISHED 22ND???? EUROPE PLS, this was the perfect way to close the show and I was expecting this a bit higher, Miki’s voice was way better than in OT and he carried a fiesta on stage, it deserved like 10 more places.
8th Place: MALTA/Michela-Chameleon (Real Placing: 14th-107 points) (Before the show: 8th place)
The best Maltese entry in years and it finished outside the top 10? Maybe she wasn’t very energetic on stage but everything else was so good, her singing improved from the semi and maybe performing first wasn’t the best idea, still a very good song.
9th Place: POLAND/Tulia-Fire of love (Pali się) (Real Placing: 11th SF1-120 points) (Before the show: 7th place)
WHY EUROPE WHYYYYYYYYY, NOOOOOOOO. This was so good and deserved the final, they were amazing, on point and it was a nice performance, this had a lot of energy and it will remain as one of my fave entries in recent years, I never stop listening to this.
10th Place: NORWAY/KEiiNO-Spirit in the sky (Real Placing: 6th-331 points) (Before the show: 9th place)
NORDIC REALNESS SERVED IN THIS SONG, and I’m so glad this did better than people thought, they sing well together and I enjoy the jojk part so much, this is everything I like in a modern schlager ethno Nordic song, and I’m so happy they won the televote <3
11th Place: NORTH MACEDONIA/Tamara Todevska-Proud (Real Placing: 7th-305) (Before the show: 18th place)
CONGRATULATIONS NORTH MACEDONIA!!!!!!! You finally broke the barrier of the 12th place, and with a hell of a song, Tamara is such a wonderful singer and when she got her 12 points she was so surprised, but with this performance you can understand her placing, also I loved the dress (unpopular opinion) A well deserved score and well done finally NM!!!!
12th Place: AUSTRALIA/Kate Miller-Heidke-Zero Gravity (Real Placing: 9th-284 points) (Before the show: 36th place)
Where is my clown wig? Remember when I said I didn’t like this entry, it took me 3 months to like it kskkskks, Kate is such an amazing singer, the staging surprised me so much and it’s beautiful, I really thought she was flying around the world, Australia, I’m so sorry for mistreating you before.
13th Place: RUSSIA/Sergey Lazarev-Scream (Real Placing: 3rd-370 points) (Before the show: 10th place)
Again Sergey Lazarev finished 3rd lsskskks, but seriously his voice is very impressive, the staging was nice, and the song is great also, maybe it needed a bit of an oomph or something like the music video but I enjoy this.
14th Place: SWEDEN/John Lundvik-Too late for love (Real Placing: 5th-334 points) (Before the show: 15th place)
Again Sweden delivers a lot of quality on stage, John is such a good singer, his voice is flawless and I love The Mammas, they sound so great, and the staging is perfect for the song, the song is also very good and catchy, another nice entry.
15th Place: ISRAEL/Kobi Marimi-Home (Real Placing: 23rd-35 points) (Before the show: 28th place)
They revamped the song!!!! AND THEY MADE IT 1000 TIMES BETTER, also Kobi’s voice is so stunning and the staging was beautiful, it moved me so much and I thought this was going to score very well, a pretty performance and I hope I can listen more of Kobi in the future.
16th Place: PORTUGAL/Conan Osiris-Telemóveis (Real Placing: 15th SF1-51 points) (Before the show: 16th place)
Another one of the NQ’s that I’ll never forget, maybe the staging wasn’t the right one but Conan’s voice is amazing and the music is hypnotic, it certainly deserved more love.
17th Place: CZECH REPUBLIC/Lake Malawi-Friend of a friend (Real Placing: 11th-157 points) (Before the show: 23rd place)
AWWWWW YEEEEES THEY DID IT AGAIN, this song it’s so wonderful, it puts me in a great mood and they’re so charismatic, I loved the staging and finally they got their first 12 points ever!!!!
18th Place: SLOVENIA/Zala Kralj & Gašper Šantl-Sebi (Real Placing: 15th-105 points) (Before the show: 17th place)
This song is like a trip to another dimension, so calm, intimate, and everything is good and pleasant, I’m so glad this song did it to the final and the performance was so good, it’s one of those songs that’s perfect for a rainy day.
19th Place: GREECE/Katerine Duska-Better love (Real Placing: 21st-74 points) (Before the show: 14th place)
This song didn’t meet my expectations live, the performance was a bit too much and I was expecting something else, also her vocals were a bit restrained, I’ll stay with the studio version.
20th Place: SERBIA/Nevena Bozović-Kruna (Real Placing: 18th-89 points) (Before the show: 26th place)
STUNNING!!!! Her voice is so good, the staging is beautiful, this is amazing and also she delivers a lot on stage, I missed a good Balkan ballad in the contest, I love the spiral and the smoke with the vents, everything here works perfectly.
21st Place: DENMARK/Leonora-Love is forever (Real Placing: 12th-120 points) (Before the show: 19th place)
Again a very lovely song that I can’t resist to, even if it fell in my top I’ll always like this song, and I was so surprised when this qualified, the performance remained simple and yeah, she sounds great.
22nd Place: SAN MARINO/Serhat-Say na na na (Real Placing: 19th-77 points) (Before the show: 20th place)
San Marino again in the final!!!!! How amazing, and this song will always have a regard for me, even if Serhat wasn’t so good live, this song is catchy, and it makes me happy, i’m so happy for them!!!!
23rd Place: LATVIA/Carousel-That night (Real Placing: 15th-50 points) (Before the show: 22nd place)
Awww this song is lovely, the performance was so intimate and her voice is stunning, also the music is calm and this give me chills, a very guilty pleasure this year.
24th Place: BELGIUM/Eliot-Wake up (Real Placing: 13th SF1-70 points) (Before the show: 21st place)
Another one of the disappointments this year, I was expecting so much more of this one, and the performance was so dull, the outfit, the drums and overall everything was so poor, also he was so nervous, again Belgium, you did it, you crushed my dreams.
25th Place: CYPRUS/Tamta-Replay (Real Placing: 13th-109 points) (Before the show: 12th place)
WHAT’S WITH HER VOCALS AND THIS PERFORMANCE, everything was a big letdown for me and I felt so uncomfortable with her vocals, they weren’t good, at least Eleni slayed her vocals last year but this... is... so disappointing.
26th Place: HUNGARY/Joci Pápai-Az én apám (Real Placing: 12th SF1-97 points) (Before the show: 24th place)
One of the biggest shocks to me is Hungary not qualifying with this beautiful song, the staging was very simple but good and his voice is perfect, so... I’ll never understand why this didn’t qualify.
27th Place: ARMENIA/Srbuk-Walking out (Real Placing: 16th SF2-49 points) (Before the show: 13th place)
What a sad sad performance, this was so empty and she was very nervous, also the running order killed this song, I was expecting so much more and AGAIN THIS IS ARMENIA’S WORST RESULT WHY???
28th Place: ROMANIA/Ester Peony-On a Sunday (Real Placing: 13th SF2-71 points) (Before the show: 27th place)
ARE YOU KIDDING THAT THIS IS ROMANIA’S WORST RESULT???? THIS IS UNFAIR, this song is very very good, and the performance was perfect and flawless, also her voice was on point and... why this didn’t qualify.
29th Place: FRANCE/Bilal Hassani-Roi (Real Placing: 16th-105 points) (Real Placing: 34th place)
A very big leap, even if I don’t dislike the song as much as I did on January, I still think this isn’t special enough, the music is quite generic and Bilal’s vocals are still bad even with the lower key, still the message is very powerful to me and I love the performance.
30th Place: IRELAND/Sarah McTernan-22 (Real Placing: 18th SF2-16 points/last) (Before the show: 29th place)
Oh Ireland, you knew your fate and you tried to save you, but in the end you finished in last place and with a lovely song, pleasant song but sadly this wasn’t going anywhere.
31st Place: BELARUS/ZENA-Like it (Real Placing: 24th-31 points) (Before the show: 25th place)
A very very very suprising qualifier and I was happy, but now I realize I don’t like the live performance and the staging, she sings nice but still everything seems out of place for this song, this was better on studio and in the NF.
32nd Place: MOLDOVA/Anna Odobescu-Stay (Real Placing: 12th SF2-85 points) (Before the show: 31st place)
Whoa Ukraine 2011 2.0 Electric Boogaloo, as I said many times before, I like this song but it’s there, they tried to lift it up and it was a bit ridiculous, also her voice wasn’t on point here.
33rd Place: GEORGIA/Oto Nemsadze-Keep on going (Real Placing: 14th SF1-62 points) (Before the show: 41st place)
This is what I call a revival, the staging was so powerful and his voice here sounds great, even if the song isn’t still my cup of tea, I must admit it has a good message and you can feel it.
34th Place: UNITED KINGDOM/Michael Rice-Bigger than us (Real Placing: 26th-13 points/last) (Before the show: 33rd place)
Poor Michael, another case of a good singer with a mediocre song, and it paid off in the results, another last place for the UK, surely his voice was good but it was so plain... nothing remarkable about it. Never do a two artists-one song NF.
35th Place: CROATIA/Roko-The dream (Real Placing: 14th SF2-64 points) (Before the show: 40th place)
The fact this song rose it’s because the other ones fell a lot. This is way cheesier than a pizza, the angel wings... I thought they would get rid of them, again his voice is good but I can’t stand this song.
36th Place: LITHUANIA/Jurij Veklenko-Run with the lions (Real Placing: 11th SF2-93 points) (Before the show: 32nd place)
Poor Jurij, a victim of the juries mistakes... Anyway this song is pleasant but it’s a bit forgettable, also with the staging I was expecting so much more, his voice is perfect and he’s charming, but he deserved a better song.
37th Place: ESTONIA/Victor Crone-Storm (Real Placing: 20th-76 points) (Before the show: 35th place)
Wow I never thought this would finish so low in my top, my biggest problem here is his voice, in the final he was better but it was a big shock for me when it qualified.
38th Place: MONTENEGRO/D Mol-Heaven (Real Placing: 16th SF1-46 points) (Before the show: 38th place)
HIGH SCHOOL MUSICAL ON STAGE, oh wait, uhhhhh... yeah... this song is... here... and yeah, FALLIN. There’s nothing else to say about this.
39th Place: FINLAND/Darude ft. Sebastian Rejman-Look away (Real Placing: 17th SF1-23 points/last) (Before the show: 30th place)
The person that decided the staging needs to be fired, everything was so out of place here, also sadly this became a sad EDM song because of the key, and Sebastian wasn’t very good, also what’s with the boots.
40th Place: AUSTRIA/PÆNDA-Limits (Real Placing: 17th SF2-21 points) (Before the show: 37th place)
The only remarkable thing of this song is the performance, is stunning, but the song is very flat, nothing special tbh. Lovely staging though.
41st Place: GERMANY/S!sters-Sister (Real Placing: 25th-24 points) (Before the shows top: 39th place)
If a song begins with a glockenspiel and the words “I’m tired” you can’t expect so much, the performance was so boring, the song is dull and this is just there, nothing special and Germany, did you miss being bottom 5? You had a lot of better songs in Unser Lied, I’m sorry, sorry for the drama.

Musical Munday Sunday: Christmas Edition
//Merry Christmas to those of you who celebrate it! Happy Sunday to those of you who don't! I've been slacking on the "Musical Munday" thing, but I'm planning to get back on track, starting with a special Christmas post. I don't celebrate Christmas as such, and therefore I've never bothered to learn many songs about it aside from the ones I've learned by osmosis from living in the US and being raised in the Church. However, there are some interesting - and very old - Christmas carols out there. You can sort of tell by my voice that I recorded this at 4am, but oh well.
The Coventry Carol dates back to Coventry, England in the 16th century. It was composed as part of a Christmas pagent, which portrayed the story of Christmas as told in the book of Mathews. The song appears in the part of the pagent wherein Herod orders the death of all male infants in the city of Bethlehem. It is a lullaby sung by the mothers of the infants condemned to death by the king. While the rest of the pagent has sort of fallen out of general public awareness, this one song has endured for nearly half a millenium.

so I’ve just spent several hours compiling my eurovision top 41
it will probably change but bc i’ve done that, its going on here bc what else am i meant to do with it?
it also contains more words than i’ve written for the essays ive got due in soon but oh well
1)     10 – Norway – Spirit in the Sky – Norway have written themselves into song. I love this song so much. When the beat drops I’m never ready for it, so it always blows me away. The joik part is exceptional. Alexandra has the most beautiful voice. The northern lights aren’t the only things dancing. I could, and I have, listen to this song on repeat for hours. Every time it has the same effect as the first time.
2)     9.5 – Iceland – Hatrid Mun Sigra – this is funky from the outset. It makes me wish I spoke Icelandic. I love the juxtaposition between the rough growl and the almost angelic singing. I love the lyrics to this, I think they’re a very bold message.
3)     9 – Spain – La Venda – Whenever this starts, I automatically start smiling. This is happiness in a song and I’ve loved it since I first heard it at the national selection. I love the way he performs, you could see and hear how happy he was to be singing it. I’m not too impressed by the revamp but I do like the emphasis they’ve added to the drums.
4)     9 – Switzerland – She Got Me – this has got me dirty dancing. I love the way this sounds. I love practically every element to this song. I like the little echoes and repetitions of lyrics. I also enjoy how it is stripped back before there is a clapping section.
5)     9 – Malta – Chameleon – this is funky, and I love it. I’m not quite sure what she’s saying for most of it, but it doesn’t matter, I’m too busy dancing to it. I like the noise of the muted trumpet. I like the clapping bit.
6)     8.5 – Greece – Better Love – this is great from the start. I love her voice. I love the almost whispered backing vocals juxtaposed with an almost choral sound. This is a really good song.
7)     8.5 – Russia – Scream – another powerful ballad. He has a great voice. It’s a very dramatic song, which I can appreciate. I like how it builds as the song continues.
8)     8.5 – Albania – Ktheju Tokes – this is a very powerful song and I love the use of language in it. I really like the message behind it. It’s very intense to listen to but all the elements mesh together well. Her voice is so strong. I like the backing singers that were added in the revamp.
9)     8.5 – Israel – Home – he has a strong voice and it really fits this song. You can feel the power of the emotions behind the lyrics and I love the background singers harmonising with him. I like it.
10)  8.5 – Belgium – Wake Up – I like the tambourine. This is a nice pop song but its not exceptional. I like the way it builds through the verses. He has a nice voice. The variation between the verse and the chorus is quite nice. You can clap to it so that’s good.
11)  8.5 – Denmark – Love is Forever – I love this song – its so catchy and I love the use of language – she has a very nice voice – I also like to sing along with this one. I like the use of pizzicato in the music. Its nice to see Denmark back on their favourite song topic, love.
12)  8 – Italy – Soldi – clap clap. I like the speed with which he sings and that he varies it throughout the song. Its not as good as the last two years’ Italian entries but its still strong.
13)  8 – Netherlands – Arcade – he has a nice voice. The song sounds nice but its not especially special. His voice sounds right for the song, unlike others. I like the different levels of sound. It’s a very dramatic song. I like the clapping bit.
14)  8 – Azerbaijan – Truth – I like his use of falsetto. I also enjoy the emphasis put on ‘shut up’, that sounds really nice. It has a really good beat. I like the pause before the chorus begins.
15)  7.5 – Poland – Pali Sie – I love this song. It’s funky and I keep getting it stuck in my head. It’s a shame that they made it bilingual for Eurovision. I like the way their voices interact with the music before coming into a sort of unity for the chorus.
16)  7.5 – San Marino – Say Na Na Na – this is funky from the start. It makes you want to dance. I like all the small references to other Eurovision entries ‘love all colours of this life’ and ‘say yay yay yay’. It’s very hopeful and uplifting and I hope this does well.
17)  7.5 – Ireland – 22 – this is funky, and I’ve enjoyed it since it was released. It makes me want to dance, and I really like her voice. I like the background string instrument. The background singers are used well.
18)  7.5 – Cyprus – Replay – this doesn’t do much for me. Its fun to listen to but it reminds me too much of last year’s entry. I don’t feel anything special when I listen to it. Yes, I can, and do, dance to it but its not really for me.
19)  7.5 – Hungary – Az En Apam – He’s back! This has a cool chill feel. I like the use of language here. The whistling fits in well too. I like the unity between Joci and the backing singer for the chorus. Na na na na na…
20)  7.5 – UK – Bigger than Us – a strong power ballad. It needs a bigger start to get it away but once its going, does it go. I like the choral sounding backing vocals. I keep hearing ‘cry no more’ in it but I think that’s also just me.
21)  7.5 – North Macedonia – Proud – powerful ballad, meaningful message, great voice. I can get this stuck in my head
22)  7 – Romania – On A Sunday – it’s a chill song and I like listening to it. It has a good beat that comes in. her voice fits well with it. I like the use of echoing in the song.
23)  7 – Czech Republic – Friend of a Friend – its funky and you can definitely dance to it. I like the woman saying, ‘I’m only a friend’, I think she’s the best part of this song. It’s catchy and I think it will quite well at Eurovision.
24)  7 – France – Roi – its grown on me, but he needs to work on his live singing. It’s a shame its not all in French. This has a great message and I do like to sing along to it. He’s clearly very emotionally invested in it and the crowd love it, so good luck to him.
25)  7 – Serbia – Kruna – I like the use of Serbian in this. She has a very strong voice and I like how she alters it through the song. I like the use of the guitar to build up to the chorus.
26)  7 – Germany – Sister – I like their voices but they sound rough sometimes. I do enjoy this song though and frequently find it stuck in my head. I like the way it builds as well as the twinkly music box instrument noises.
27)  7 – Armenia – Walking Out – She has a strong voice, but I feel like this song doesn’t go anywhere. Its excitement is wasted. Even the strong chorus is futile, the song finishes and then I instantly forget it. The parts don’t feel entirely unified. But I do like the choral feel to the later parts of the song.
28)  6.5 – Austria – Limits – she has a very unique voice. I like the quiet start to the song. I like it when the background music comes in and the song begins to build, before dying back down. It puts a lot of emphasis on her voice. I would prefer if the song built up to something bigger. The small climax is nice, but is it big enough for Eurovision?
29)  6.5 – Australia – Zero Gravity – this is an interesting song and its grown on me. But the high note, for that high note she’s just screaming, and I don’t like that at all. It’s catchy and I can sing along but I’m still not attached to it. Its weird and I’m not sure if it works.
30)  6.5- Sweden – Too Late for Love – fun pop song – format feels overused Sweden – please get a new one, I’m finding it hard to differentiate between your songs – he sings well though – I like the backing singers
31)  6.5 – Slovenia – Sebi – I like the use of language but the song doesn’t really do anything for me. It has an interesting sound. It doesn’t feel like the singer particularly cares about the lyrics. I could get this stuck in my head though.
32)  6 – Finland – Look Away – I’m not sure about the singer’s voice. It just doesn’t sound right for most of the song. It’s a funky and catchy song, though, so I enjoy listening to it. Darude’s bit is very good, so that brings this song up.
33)  6 – Moldova – Stay – she has a powerful voice. I like some of the notes particularly. It builds up quite nicely.
34)  6 – Latvia – That Night – I like the melody of ‘lo-o-o-o-ve’ but some of the vocals are rough. Nevertheless, some of it is catchy – I keep mishearing ‘there is a house in New Orleans’ from the house of the rising sun in it but I think that’s just me. Quite repetitive.
35)  6 – Lithuania – Run with the Lions – weird falsetto singing in parts – catchy in parts – it’s a nice pop song but doesn’t really go anywhere
36)  6 – Croatia - The Dream – I like his voice and the bit in Croatian but he’s always singing flat out – it would sound better with variation – I do like to sing along though, which I don’t do for other songs
37)  6 – Estonia – Storm – this is quite a generic pop song. It reminds a lot of Sebalter’s song ‘Carry the Light’ and it just doesn’t do much for me. It’s more a piece of background music for me rather than a song I’d actively seek out.
38)  6 – Belarus – Like It – lots of ‘oo’. Slightly repetitive. Its an ok party pop song. I’m not enamoured with it. The chorus is quite catchy however. I’m not sure about her voice.
39)  4.5 – Portugal – Telemoveis – discordant and fragmented. I don’t understand it. It doesn’t come together as a whole for me. The pizzicato strings are interesting, but this song is just not for me at all.
40)  4 – Montenegro – Heaven – its much better with the revamp but this song still isn’t great – the new instruments move it always from the realm of total generic-ness but it’s still not ideal
41)  2 – Georgia – Sul Tsin Iare –I like the use of language but I just don’t like this song. It feels very clunky and forced – that one judge seems to love it though

Get To Know Your Eurovision Entries: Semi 1, Part 2
Welcome back to Get To Know Your Eurovision Entries! Let’s continue with our analysis of the 2019 Eurovision songs. Next up, the remaining eight acts of the first semi-final. (If you’re curious about the others, check them out here.)
Belgium: “Wake Up,” Eliot
youtube
The last time Belgium did well at Eurovision was in 2017, with a young lady named Blanche. So this year, Belgium has teamed up the writer of that song, Pierre Doumoulin, with singer Eliot Vassamillet. Much like 2017′s “City Lights,” “Wake Up” is modern, moody, and cool.
Georgia: “Sul tsin iare,” Oto Nemsadze
Well, let’s be honest, this is a rough one. Georgia doesn’t have a great track record at Eurovision; they’ve haven’t made the final since 2016. Singer Oto Nemsadze sings with passion, but his vocal stylings are jarring. “Sul tsin iare”means “Keep On Going,” and while the performance is powerful, it lacks universal appeal.
Australia: “Zero Gravity,” Kate Miller-Heidke
youtube
After several years of internal selections, Australia decided to open things up this year and had their first ever national selection show, Eurovision– Australia Decides. Kate Miller-Heidke, a classically trained singer and actress, was declared the winner, and this is an entry you have to see to believe. The giant platform dress– yes, we’ve seen that all before (here, here, and here). But the dark creature behind her on a pogo stick? That’s supposed to be a physical representation of “depression.” Rehearsals in Tel Aviv have just started, and rumor has it the Australians are changing things up a bit for the big show. They promise something even bigger and better.
Iceland: "Hatrið mun sigra,“ Hatari
youtube
Only Iceland could give us a performance like this. They’re a techno-punk-metal-BDSM-anti-captialist group with an uplifting message behind their song: "Hatrið mun sigra” means “Hate Will Prevail.” An usual sentiment for Eurovision, until you realize Hatari are… 90% not serious. Let’s call them an art school project all grown up. You see, when they get out of the leather and latex, they really seem like pretty nice guys! If everyone in Israel’s in on the joke, then they’ll succeed at doing Silvia Night better than Silvia Night.
Of course "Hatrið mun sigra” has created quite a stir among fans. But this is the kind of absurdity that could win Eurovision (remember 2006?). Apparently in Iceland, some of their biggest fans are toddlers and grandmas– so it would seem they appeal to a wide audience. Iceland is the only Nordic country who’s never won Eurovision, but they’ve come second twice, first in 1999. And then again, in 2009. Maybe 2019 will be their lucky year.
Estonia: “Storm,” Victor Crone
Estonia outsourced this year by selecting Victor Crone of Sweden to represent them at Eurovision. You may remember Victor from Melodifestivalen 2015. This time, he went to nearby Estonia, got himself a song co-written by Estonian superstar Stig Rästa, and won Eesti Laul. “Storm” is a country-twinged pop song, catchy, although a little generic.
Portugal: “Telemóveis,” Conan Osiris
youtube
Portugal, true to form, is sending us something completely different. But this year, it’s quite captivating. Conan Osiris (real name: Tiago Miranda) is an ARTISTE, darling. “Telemóveis” is a song that combines elements of traditional Portugese fado music with Asian influences. It’s extremely experimental, and will definitely stand out. Which is a risk, but one that will probably pay off.
Greece: “Better Love,” Katerine Duska
After failing to qualify for the final last year with a Hellenic ballad, Greece is back to their normal form by sending a party song. Katerine Duska is a native Canadian, of Greek ancestry, and has a very Florence Welch vibe. “Better Love”is cool and current, and it’s likely the Greeks will give us a very polished performance.
San Marino: “Say Na Na Na,” Serhat
youtube
Serhat, who previously represented San Marino in 2016, had one of the surprise hits of that year with his song “I Didn’t Know.” He came 12th in his semi-final, so he just failed to make the final, but a star was born that day. He went on to record a disco duet of the song with Martha Wash(!), of The Weather Girls(!!), that popped up on the US dance charts. So it was inevitable that Serhat would return to Eurovision one day. “Say Na Na Na” continues with the disco theme. It’s one of the year’s most joyous, and also, most stupid, songs. Serhat was chosen to close out first semi-final, which means we can probably expect a high-energy, fabulous performance. San Marino has only made the final once in its decade of Eurovision participation, so hopefully Serhat will give us something spectacular once again.
That’s the first semi-final for you! Tune in on Tuesday, May 14th to see for yourself how things pan out. Get To Know Your Eurovision Entries (GTKYEE) will continue next week.

Politics and tensions between Ukraine and Russia caused the withdrawal of Ukraine from the Eurovision Song Contest 2019. Neither Maruv, winner of Vidbir, nor the other participants accepted the Ukrainian conditions to cancel their concerts in Russia and to be spokesman of the Ukrainian policy. So, the favorite Maruv will not go to Tel Aviv. She was one of the favorite of the contest this year.

After a long hesitation, we have decided to talk about the winner of the Sanremo festival 2019, who will represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 and is clearly a favorite this year. Some people and media think he's gay because of a past interview in a gay magazine about gay rights in Egypt last year and a concert at Bologna Pride in 2013. But he never came out, saying that coming out is a step back because his generation doesn’t make differences about color or sexual orientation.

Italy - 2018
This song came second in the first part of the Sanremo Giovani 2018 Music Festival for emergent artists. The lyrics talk about a love relationship badly judged by the entourage. If the lyrics aren't specifically gay, the music video is, with the portrayal of a young man who comes out to his father who rejects him in return. So, the young man can only be reconforted by his boyfriend and his friends. Until... Beautiful.

#rkfifth
As I've did some tagging and mentioning a few months ago (and I am not very good with that, I apologize big time!) with my muses anniversary's I thought of a different way to celebrate #rkfifth. The suggestions of rkfanfic sounded like a lot of fun, so I decided to use some of the questions for a "quick" round of reminiscing in old memories of the years I am part of ROOKIES. In the following paragraphs I will be picking up old posts and anecdotes I might didn't shared so far, but before I do that, I would like to thank everyone who plotted and threaded with me until now. I know I am not very fast with replies, but I hope we can continue on having fun together and share love and peace in our beloved ROOKIES! And here I would like to give a special thanks to our wonderful Admod team who created this whole universe for everyone of us to relax and enjoy our big and little bonds together. Thank you a lot!!
QUESTION TIME:
What was the most memorable moment of your muse? Rkkanggary/Rkgray: How he became the MVP in Taeyeon's team during MGA3 and reached the finals and even, when he didn't received a contract right away, I was really happy for him to get a contract offer from KT (despite being Gary at that time) after the KT & ROYAL Contest. Another really memorable moment involved a rknetizen: rknettissen. This was the first time for Gary to be recognized and I have to confess that I've read the few lines about him and his offbeat rap over and over again. Whoever is the typist of SSEUNNIE, bless your soul. Rkkangjoon: Of course the most memorable moment of Kang Joon is a negative one so far, lol. It was the first day as ROYAL trainee, when he and his now ex-girlfriend Rose (@rkrose) were called to the office to be remembered about the dating-ban. Not the best way to start a musical career, I suppose. But oh, well, this played a big part of his character development. Positive memories were the positive family article in MGA3 (from which I never expected that Kang Joon would be mentioned at all) and the chance to Co-Host Royal Survival together with Baekhyun (@rkbyunbaek).
What did you never imagine your muse to do? G: To have a crush on a OLDER man. Saranghae Huidong hyung :* (@rkhuidong). Long Life the old man ship ~. I never exptected him to climb on his neighbours balcony to get into his apartment (@rkyngsun), to get annoyed by a fellow trainee (@rksungho), to form a "colour line" with a sunbae (@rkxblue), to give his jacket to a stranger (@rkjinhwan94), to catch a thief for a stranger(@rksxngji), to find a dance rival with chocolate abs (@yubinrk), to have a snowman faceoff (@rkxminhee), to meet a female dj (@rkkaeun), to find a muse (@rkseolhyun), to fight over a cabbage for kimchi (@rksohee), to cry over The Lion King (@rkohsehun), to be a snail oppa to a supportive little sister (@rksoojung), to be attracted to a sunbae (@rkariel), to have a rapper buddy (@minhyukxrk). KJ:To date a girl for only two weeks in summer (@sujirk), to let someone touch his dimples at the first meeting (@rksohee), to climb out of a broken elevator with his ex-girlfriend to get her to the job interview (@rkrose), to smack a female stranger's ass in public (@rkchungha & he should really stop do buttsmacks and gropes as greetings), to send a stranger a photo of himself halfnaked (@rkjimin), to vent on a female (@rkyena), to have a wingwoman (@rkcheri), to fancy PrettyLegWoman to the point he starts dating her (@hyunark), to brotect the broknae (@aronrk), to have a cute fangirl (@rksoohyun), to meet his first boyfriend at a swing (@rkseokwoo).
What do you wish your muse to do or take part in in the future? G: Appear in a variety show like Running Man or a music show like Show me your money. KJ: Acting in a drama like School 2013 or be in a variety show such as Roommate or We got married.
Most memorable event? For both definitely MGA3!
Which muse do you think developed more? As Gray is characterwise basically the same as before (just more deep and poetic), I would say it is Kang Joon who developed more. Brosquad did a great job to shape him from the character which was inspired from Cheese in the Trap to a real bro. Originally he was supposed a bit of a fuckboy and a player but with Rose’s help, the first real KJ ship I came across with in Rookies, he became a romantic and loyal and devoted to someone other than his squad members. At the same time the idea of a real angsty muse grew on me which turned out to be the recipe for me to get my muse running on rkkangjoon. Due to his unpredictability it was fun to explore difficult situations, and even when he have been through some sh*t (ic and ooc wise) I think it was important to go through every single moment for me to create the kind of muse he is today. Nonetheless Gary/Gray as well developed, though in a different way than Kang Joon. For him it is more like he received more depth to be true to himself. And he turned out to be exactly how I imagined him and how I love him.
Tell about a precious memory within your years in Rookies. I always like to remember how the Brosquad began. At that time most muns were still using Aim and Jen (@yujurk) as well had introduced me to this app. As Jenn had left the rp with Jimin, the KangJi ship was done for which was why Kang Joon was a little down for a while. I am not sure how things escalated that fast but I do remember I began talking to Lyn (@rsxnn) when I met her through Jen, since she wanted a best buddy for Minsoo. Minsoo and Kang Joon became highschool buddies and the chemistry between them exploded. So Minsoo became Joon’s first bro, and soon after Lyn and Jen started to discuss ship partners for Kang Joon which was how I came to meet Clara (@rkwendy) as well (can you believe there was a time, when Jen wanted Wendy and Kang Joon end up together? XD). Somehow former Hyuna and Minju got thrown into the ship discussion as well and things got messy. Emily and Bora as well as Nana (@hyunark) and Elly got added in the female squad which let to the idea that Minsoo, Kang Joon and Gary needed another addition. At that time Maddie @aronrk) had Aron post a tweet in which he asked for #justiceforgary as he didn’t received a contract despite being a MGA3 finalist. This touched me so deeply because Kang Joon received a little more attention during the MGA3 and I was so happy to propose to ask Aron join the squad. As I am a great fan of Barney Stinson from HIMYM “The Brocode” soon became the male squad’s bible from which we derived the name Brosquad. And as the girls were like babysitters sometimes and had to give their VETOs about a whole list of activities they still have to do and try we named the girls the Antisquad. The original squad was born. And even when the squad was mixed up after muns and muses left, this special bond with its new additions of Sammi (@rkxminhee) and Minhee and Clara’s Johnny as well as Roe's Yooa (@rkyooa) is my forever favorite relationship. Big shout out to all squad members, thank you for accepting and loving my guys. Thank you for giving me a place in Rookies, I love you all. PS: Special shout out to Phani (@rkxjiyoon) (even when she won’t read this), thank you for willing to slow burn ship with KT’s ahjussi, even when he had Gary’s face back then. PPS: As you can see, this whole squad thing originated from Jen’s magic to connect people. It’s all your fault! Without you, things would have turned out differently for my boys, especially for Kang Joon who wouldn’t have a loving noona who beat reason and rationality into him during Highschool. Thank you! ♡
Predictions and wishes for 2019 Since I am a mun of two males (another quick prediction for myself: I can’t hold back during my holdidays and apply for another rkthirdmuse with Kikwang) I of course wish to see more chances for boygroup debuts to occur. The only project which I do remember that could involve a possible boygroup would be KTrookies 2nd round… so who knows what the future holds. Another wish of mine are shows solely for dancers and rappers, so we will have a bit more variety aside from the MGAs or other shows or contests that seemingly focus mainly on singers.
Favorite performance of your muse? G: The first original song performance for the MGA3 auditions: Who are you living for? and the MVP stage I was talking about earlier: Angel feat. Coach Taeyeon, as well as one of my all time favorites: Pursuit the Happiness which he had performed during the Star-Bright-Casting for Sphere in 2015. KJ: I have a soft spot for sad, fragile voices and piano music: Tame Me. Acapella Pop Medley Squad Power! Highlight was of course Kang Joon as Britney Spears ;)
Favorite quote? G: "To forget… to heal… to live… that’s why I make music." KJ: " Heroes, Aren't those who withstand fire; No, They are the ones who can burn down and rise up, strengthened by the ash."
Favorite graphics/ moodboard? Of course this one here! And on each muse following: G: Moodboard |x||x| KJ: Moodboard |x| Graphics |x| |x| |x| SHOUT OUT TO RAZEL@rkcheri

📻 🎸
📻  | What music genre do the mun and muse listen to? Any favorite bands?
M U N : I’m a sucker for ballads and song with a slow, yet forceful beat - so Indie, then, I guess? Hozier is probably my all-time favorite single singer and Banners is my favorite bands. Lately I’ve been getting more into R&B, though, thanks to my co-workers.
M U S E : Marlene grew up listening to Wrock with her brothers. They would dance around the house with the music vibrating the walls, none of them knowing the lyrics very well but singing along nonetheless. Lately, due to her brother, Darius, who is integrated into the muggle world, and her muggle-born best friends, she’s fallen in love with rock. She’s a big fan of The Kinks, Pink Floyd, and The Beatles (and has recently acquired a record player.)
🎸 | Can either the mun or the muse play an instrument? Which one(s)?
M U N : God, I WISH. I played piano and the clarinet when I was a kid, but I’ve since forgotten - not that I was very good in the first place.
M U S E | All respectable pure-blood families enroll their children in music lesson, the McKinnons being no exception. Marlene chose to learn how to play the piano, which she still can. Instead of reciting the classic ballads she was taught, however, she’s learned how to play some of her favorite songs instead. She’s currently trying to get her brother Kieran to teach her how to play the guitar as well.

Musical Munday
//This munday I have for you a ballad that is thought to have originated in 18th century Scotland. It is written in Scots and thus may not be entirely intelligible to those listeners not well-versed in such. The song recounts a conversation between two crows regarding the body of a knight.
