OH OH OH! This is a topic that I've thought about extensively!

So we've established that AuRa hear by picking up vibrations from their horns, and they're made to be extremely sturdy because of the fact that they're what enables them to hear things and also protects the nerves within, what would essentially be their ear drum.

That being said, if an AuRa somehow damages or even loses a horn entirely, they can be prone to 'ear ache' or any number of infections, and would also be considered deaf on that side. As such is my OC Ryce's case, where his left horn was severed during the events of ARR. He's considered deaf on that side, even after having a prosthetic horn made, because the prosthetic isn't made of the exact material needed to carry the vibrations properly. The prosthetic was mostly made for balance purposes (and because I'm too lazy to edit his left horn out for gpose things).

Additionally I headcanon that AuRa have better hearing than most races, except maybe Viera, because of the fact that they can pick up vibrations. This however makes them sometimes easily overwhelmed in loud or crowded places, because there's just so much going on.

And because they hear by the vibrations coming from the originating sound, many are capable of 'blind fighting' and so long as they can hear where their enemies are, they can pinpoint direction and distance pretty accurately.

Anyway I'm obsessed with AuRa and thank you for coming to my ted talk. Also bear in mind that these are my personal headcanons and are not to be taken seriously lol

Man, how do au ra hear?

Is it lore compliant to say they have ears? Some googling says their ears are their horns. But whispering into someone's horn sounds ridiculous. Or is that how people write it? Lizards do have ears so it's probably not biologically incorrect to say an au ra has ears of some kind. It just feels strange. If you take the more reptile path, whispering into someone's ear hole sounds even less appealing than whispering into a horn.

The fandom had to have discussed this before right? Probably at length. I'm just too new to the fandom to have seen the lore debate. Can an au ra get an earache? Do their horns just hurt? Is it understood that if you say someone is whispering in an au ra's ear, they're murmuring close to like the base of their horns?

But listen!!! Hawke DID matter!!!! Hawke saved people, not everyone but they’re only one person they shouldn’t have to save everyone. The fact that they did as much as they did in the broken down to its bones city of Kirkwall which was just barely functioning on the life support of Hawke’s Fucking Backbone is a testament to their strength.

Hawke isn’t the savior of all, like the warden or the inquisitor but they are a savior of the small. The few still matter, the few are still living and breathing and that’s because of Hawke. Every sacrifice Hawke made for those around them might not feel worth it to them but to every person they saved it was everything.

Hawke is the hero in a Greek tragedy, they were always built to sink but they made damn sure they got as many people off the ship as they could. They couldn’t save everyone but they were one person who did more than those around them. They saw a broken city and they didn’t run, they didn’t give into despair, the fought until they couldn’t anymore. That matters.

Hawke Matters.
