walburga straightened sirius’ crooked tie and tucked his hair behind his ear.

“your hair is getting too long again.”

she looked at the boy in front of her, who was more man than boy now. the fruit of her womb, the son of the stars. he now stood taller than her, his face almost exactly the same as hers, except for the mischievous, adolescent twinkle in his eyes, that had started dimming the moment they left king’s cross.

“you’ve already told me that,” he said, as she ran a hand over his stiff jacket.

“you should cut it.”

sirius shrugged. “maybe. i like it this way better, though. it gets in my face when it’s too short.”

“oh, and it does not get in your face when it’s,” she said, twisting a lock of sirius’ hair around her thin, gloved finger, “this long?”

“no,” he chuckled, “because it comes down my shoulders. it’s awkward when it’s cut and it starts growing out again.”

walburga looked at him, unimpressed, yet said nothing.

“you are going to have to present yourself a certain way when you will start taking on the responsibility of this house.”

sirius cocked his eyebrow. “who said i will?”

his mother’s eyes met his. “don’t be silly, sirius. you will be the heir you are expected to be, whether you want that or not.” she smoothed an inexistent crease on her sleek, black dress. “you don’t have a choice. you never did.”

just imagining kevin and riko being normal kids makes me feel so sick. they were KIDS. those tattoos started off as two little kids drawing silly numbers on their faces and they never washed them off. i just want you to picture for a second riko's reaction to kevin covering up his tattoo, after everything. after all those years of hurting his brother, his best friend, his biggest competitor, those two seven year olds sitting across from each other scribbling 1's and 2's on their faces every other day, he's ruined it all. just like that. the bedroom he kept safe and tidy for him worthless.

seven year old riko who's picked up cursive writing like it's natural to him. kevin who has the worst handwriting in his class. kevin's number always looks perfect, like a real tattoo on his cheek, the same every day like it's always been there, while riko's is a shaky line, in a different position every day, but he doesn't care. it's him and his best friend kevin pretending they're superstars. they played pretend, pretending to be famous, pretending to accept their olympic medals, pretending to be the best in the world.

and then kevin walks onto the court and he's covered it up.
