Your boyfriend blows the candles out on the birthday cake you baked for him, his face illuminated by the warm glow. There’s a mechanical click and sudden flash as you capture the moment. Yeonjun seems startled for a moment, and you giggle at his surprised expression.

“It’s your present!” you smile, holding up a vintage Polaroid camera. “I hope you don’t mind that I didn’t get to wrap it.” You handed him the black device, the photo slowly being deposited from within. “It’s great; I love it.” He smiled and kissed you.

You wanted to get Yeonjun something that he could explore his burgeoning love of photography with. Something that would drive his fans crazy when he shared it on Instagram. Yes, even though Yeonjun was your boyfriend, you loved every opportunity for a “boyfriend photo.”

And Yeonjun did like the camera.

He never posts them of course, the pictures he takes of you. They’re just for him; special, secret photos that only the two of you will ever see. They start out innocently enough: pictures of you smiling at his birthday party, pictures of your fingers intertwined with his. But from there…

They’re faceless at first, the pictures of you in his bed. Your hair splayed out messily across the pillow, your neck and chest covered in dark hickeys. Your nipples, puffy and swollen after he tugged them into his mouth. The hazy quality of the film camera in the low light of his bedroom makes everything seem like it was taken in a dream.

The photos print instantly from the camera, a mechanical whirr as the paper releases and the wait as the image slowly, slowly comes into view. He saves each one in a photo album he keeps hidden away in a drawer.

At first, you’re shy around the camera, not used to a camera being out during intimate moments. But soon enough, Yeonjun’s habit of snapping a pic becomes comfortable and routine. You gasped, inspecting the high-quality device. "Seriously? You didn't have to."

"It's a flex, and you get to use it," he teased.

The following week, you both set out on another impromptu photo expedition. Suna's new camera captured the world with stunning clarity, and you couldn't help but marvel at the difference.

"This thing's a beast," you remarked.

Suna nodded, looking at you with a soft expression. "Gotta keep up with the times, right?"

Soon enough, your sneaky photo escapades turn into little trips around town, exploring new places solely for the purpose of filling random albums with your captures. Suna, analytical as ever, provides insights into the art of photography, surprising you with his depth of knowledge.

As the year winds down, you both compile your best shots into a photo album, a collection of stolen moments that tell a silent story. The Miya twins feature prominently, their ridiculous expressions and mishaps immortalized in glossy prints. Suna's snarky remarks accompany each photo, creating a narrative that makes you laugh until your sides ache.

"You've got a talent for this, Rin," you comment, flipping through the album one last time.

The VJ visuals for the Dusk + Blackdown song The Drumz of Nagano, by myself, Jonathan Howells. This was created as one of a series of stage visuals for Dusk + Blackdown's live tour called Margins Music (named after the album of the same name) way back in 2010, which I performed live as the songs progressed. The fun thing about these visual sequences, is that they weren't just 'hit play''. As I said above, I actually "performed" these visuals (well, some parts) along with the live band that was performing the songs. I had 2 VJ decks (Pioneer DVJ-1000), so I could cue every other track's visuals. And these decks actually had turn tables on top, allowing me to "scratch" the visuals! I had a lot of fun with this, because while most of the visuals were painstakingly prepared ahead of time (read: months of work), there were a few sections where I could improvise, and play around with these super cool decks. So I could mess with time, repetition, and controlling forward/reverse playback of my own visuals, very precisely, as much as I pleased. Was amazing. We had a n MC called Trim turn up (rather late) for one of the shows and I reprised one of the visual sequences that featured an enormous mouth. I scratched the mouth open and closed, back and forth, along with Trim rhyming on stage - sick.

Below are a couple of frames or that mouth. And further down, there's a shot of Trim performing during this very moment, but we can't see the screen (damn!)

The original videos were all made in SD (Standard Definitions) so pretty small and low-res. This Drumz of Nagano video has been up-rezed using the amazing Topaz Labs Video AI. It did an amazing job of interpreting the slightly fuzzy original, that was created with old film footage that was also probably SD. Topaz has enlarged it cleanly, making a few slightly weird AI guesses at what's what, but it's also given it an almost painterly quality, that I think I like. I added some film grain to soften it all a bit.

While this and the other videos from the time are almost 15 years old, I recently decided to take another look at them, and to my surprise, I still kinda dig them! Unfortunately, I can't find all of them - only a few. They must be on a hard drive somewhere, and I will try to uncover them, and Topaz them all up to HD or 4K.

Brian once again does the For Your Love reference in the breakdown, and Freddie sings his usual Back Chat improvs. Liar and Freddie's strong improvisational abilities (no doubt fueled by his love for r&b music) are a winning combination in 1982. After Under Pressure, the audience chant for Mustapha. Freddie enthusiastically responds, "Ok, we'll do that," and then sings the intro before introducing Fat Bottomed Girls. Freddie must have missed playing Somebody To Love at the last couple shows, as he performs the intro before Bohemian Rhapsody. It was his favourite Queen song, one which he always sang passionately. Bow Wow Wow (probably best known for their cover of "I Want Candy") are the support act for a few nights, and the Queen fans do not take kindly to them. The band members spent their set dancing around and ducking to avoid flying beer cans, and the drummer and guitarist were soon hit in the face. They left without finishing their set. Ten minutes later the guitarist, Matthew Ashman, returned to the stage with an assortment of beer cans and proceeded to throw them into the audience in retaliation. Fan Stories

“In 1980 my parents asked what I would like for my 13th birthday. I said that I wanted either a Kiss-LP or a Queen-LP... They gave me the Game album and the funny thing was (although I didn't think of it as "funny" that moment) that they had wrapped it in giftpaper and wrote "Harry" on it with a pencil... I remove the paper, saw the cover with in the right-upper corner "Harry" IMPRINTED in the aluminium-like material!!! Great, thank you guys...

On my birthday in 1982 my parents made that little miss up with a ticket to a Queen-show in Leiden on the 24h of april. Needless to say that I was thrilled... They brought me with their car, dropped me off at the entrance and treated themselves to an evening at the local cinema. I remember wearing this red and white Queen-shawl and a lot of buttons on my jacket, whatever happened to the shawl and buttons I don't know, but I often regret losing them in time.

Anyway, first on the stage is Bow Wow Wow. I really liked them (I had their album at home) but I think I was the only one... While they were playing the audience began throwing all the beercans they could find (back then you could still buy beercans instead of these plastic cups with low-alcohol beer nowadays) and they didn't miss!

The four members of Bow Wow Wow were dancing and ducking and running to avoid the beercans, but at some point both the drummer (who couldn't move too much) and the guitarplayer (with the mohawk) got hit right in the face! I think they never finished their original playlist because it was a quit short performance. 10 minutes after the band had abandoned the stage, the guitarplayer with the mohawk comes walking back on stage with his arms full of beercans. He walks to the front end of the stage and start throwing these beercans back in the audience... Hard!!! I remember Roger Taylor being pissed off at us for never giving these musicians a chance...

After half an hour or so, Queen came on... I was overwhelmed by what I can only remember as one great wall of light, heat and sound... I had never heard so much noise before.... and I loved it!!! The Flash-intro was enough to give me goosebumps, Tie Your Mother Down overwhelmed my ears, Love Of My Life was as beautiful as on the Live Killers-album and Get Down Make Love made me go "High" on the psychedelic synthersizer sounds...

I also remember hoping that David Bowie would come walking on stage to sing his part in Under Pressure, but I realised that that was just the hope of a 15 year old boy on his first concert ever...

In the end of the show, after a short retreat, Roger began playing his drums for We Will Rock You and the crowd went crazy again and so did I... I don't remember all the other individual songs very well, it seemed to me One Great Song of 100 minutes...

Back outside I discovered my parents' car, opened the cardoor, stumbled in and I could see my mother's lips move but my ears were ringing too much to hear her. I wanted to say that but I found out that my voice was gone as well! So I just fell asleep in the back of the car, "drugged" by this future addiction called Queen... Needless to say that the ringing in my ears only wore out after a couple of days. I took a few photographs that night, but unfortunately, after developing, they turned out of poor quality. Oh well, nothing can erase the memory of my first concert ever, that of Queen...” - Harry Lassche

Louie tag game

I was tagged by @allwaswell16​​ Thank you darling! I’m going to answer this even though my anons can’t agree whether I’m a Harrie or Louie. I feel like answering it so I am. 

When did you become a Louie? Ehh it’s hard to pinpoint. It’s either from the start (2013) or just somewhere along the road the first couple of years. I was always Louie Harrie Larrie before we even used those words exactly. But often times felt the need to give more love to Louis because of the circumstances he was in to balance the unfairness. 

Why did you become a Louie? He’s just so fiercely loyal, protective and throughout a good fucking person. He’s so vocal and loud about loving his fans, without it ever feeling contrived or put-on. I think people like him are few and far between, especially in the industry. Also his buttersoft voice and the way you can hear his emotion through song has always been special to me. Not to mention he’s so tough and strong after it all, and still not afraid to show emotion and be vulnerable. He’s someone to look up to on that account. Oh, and when he’s happy you become happy, it’s basic science! You need a Louis in your life. 

One thing that drew you in specifically? His voice. I remember watching the “talk dirty to me” and his voice in that, and the subsequent interviews I consumed, drew me in. And then very quickly after that: his humor and sharp quick wit. 

Favorite song on walls? Defenceless. It resonated with me even when we had those low quality sound clips, and even more so when we finally heard the album. 

Who would you want Louis to collab with? Idk I’m not big on collabs and don’t really have any personal wishes. But would be nice if he’d collab with someone big who suits voice and style. And like Anitra said, maybe Sam Fender since he likes him so much. 

Favorite hairstyle? I’ve liked artfully messy quite a bit, also known as the hedgehog hair? And the peaky blinders cut from a few summers ago was amazing.

Back to you, just hold on, or miss you? I love the sounds of all these, but JHO just hit differently. Remember we got that one like a blessing. I think I randomly play them on spotify the equal amount though. 

Louis in suits or sweaters? I often tend to miss the things we rarely see, so I’m going to go with suits. I think it’s nice that it’s not too often so I don’t get spoiled and stop getting excited about it haha. 

Favorite tattoo? I’ve always had trouble deciding between the stag and the “it is what it is”... I think I switch between every question thingy, so this time I’m going with the It Is What It Is. I just really like the placement too. 

Favorite Louis photo (currently)? Usually I’d pick a crinkly-eyed happy Louis pic, but it’s actually this one from on stage in Barcelona, which is my phone background:

Random extra? I won the TOU hotspot thing in my city, so I was going to have a skype convo with him, but it didn’t happen to neither of us winners :( Was a very sad night. But I got a signed Rovers shirt :)
