Here’s my rendition of the Homestuck kids as trolls. I used preexisting canon (or postcanon) trollsona sprites as a jumping off point, though for some I couldn’t.
(Here’s the trolls as kids!!)
Design explanations will be under the cut.
Jake English: I chose to make Jake burgundy due to the Hiveswap description. I personally am not too much of a fan of these descriptions, as they really only apply to the main twelve trolls, if even that, but I was otherwise lost on Jake. His socks are indigo to reference the Alternian idea of wearing the blood color of someone you share a quadrant with, especially as a lowblood, to signify that you shouldn't be messed with. His horns are taken from Calliope's trollsona, as Jake is the closest relative to Lord English, and there's probably some symbolism there. As for the name "Jaking Enlish", I simply scrambled his original name a bit to make it fit the 6x6 naming conventions.
Dave Strider: I chose to make Dave gold due to his early shown proficiencies with tech. The horns are taken from his canon trollsona, and them having two starting points before merging into a single horn at the tip is similar to that of a few background Hiveswap trolls. His name is a reference to Davesprite, being a crow.
Roxy Lalonde: She is very connected to cats, even down to her human symbol, so who am I to get rid of that connection? Her horns are meant to look both like cat ears as well as hearts, and her hair was reshaped a bit for a spikier appearance. Her dress is her party dress, and, as seen in Jake's trollsona, Roxy too wears the blood color of someone she is in quadrants with. Her name isn't too much of a change.
Jade Harley: I made Jade jade because I thought it was funny, that is literally it. Her original trollsona was pretty good, and I replaced her god tier fit with a sort of horrid amalgamation of some other fits. Now that we've seen Fiamet with a tail, I figured I could give Jade one as well as ears, and I figure her working in the brooding caverns gives her a much lower likelihood of early culling. She also does breed the frogs, so that's got to be worth something. Her shoes are red because red seems to be one color which numerous trolls of all castes accessorize with, and her name is a combination of - you guessed it - the words "Jade" and "pup", with her last name remaining the same.
John Egbert: John gets to be a tealblood almost entirely due to his father. He's an unassuming guy from the suburbs who does menial officework. This also seems to be the fate of many tealbloods, so boom. Teal John. His horns are similar to those of Xefros, as, again, unassuming protagonist guy. I did give him sharper teeth, though, as burgundy bloods are the only caste with dull teeth, and I also fixed up his hair a bit. His name comes from a combination of "John" and "June" because I am a fan of both, and again, his last name remains the same.
Dirk Strider: The ties between Dirk and Equius are unavoidable, of course Dirk is going to be indigo. His horn is taken from his trollsona. His name is just "Dirk" but fancier and longer.
Rose Lalonde: Violet because of the horrorterrors. Took her original trollsona and gave it piercings because she's simply too goth not to. I also changed up her original dress a bit, made it more vibrant and closer to violet. Her name follows Roxy's pattern, but now with a closed consonant to end it off.
Jane Crocker: If you didn't think I was going to make her fuschia, you don't understand the depths of my autism. Her entire family line is fuschia, what other color COULD I make her?? Her trollsona is so baked into her appearance here, alongside her crockertier form. Still, Jane is butch in my heart of hearts, so she got to wear a suit instead of a dress (taken from Dave's sprites) and her pair of shorts and slippers(?). Her name is taken from her friend's nickname for her, "Janey".

The day has come!!
I present to you, my Killjoy oc (not a self insert) - Jane Doe*!
[separate images will be under the cut]
"Working" for Bli in Battery City, she believes that system can be destroyed only from inside. The Draculoid position allows her to go to the Zones on a regular basis, so she takes this opportunity to help others. Of course, there is not so much people, that trust her. A white suit and a black tie don't make the situation any better, especially when it comes to Killjoys. But those who knew her for a while, could sure tell that there's no better allie than Jane. If you have enough carbons, she will get anything that you want. Will it be a pack of fresh water or some car spare parts, she doesn't care, as long as you pay for it and behave well, she will get it for you.
Sometimes, she also helps some bullet children to escape the city. Or the zones if some wishes. But mostly, she cares about ones that stuck in the Lobby. They're nobody for the city, not even a number in the weekly report in the office.
Her nature is cheerful and funny, she loves hard drinks and dirty jokes. If she ever made any joke towards you, don't be much offended, that means, that she considers you as a friend!
She never takes her mask off, for the sake of own safety, tho she knows every blind spot in the desert. Oh, and about a mask. Many 'joys tell her things like "hey, if you consider yourself as a killjoy then look like one, spit some colour on self" but she believes that the main thing in a desert fashion is to be different, to stand out. And she stands out pretty much. So in her opinion the mission accomplished successfully.
She wants to bring the Bli down as much as any other Killjoy. She knows that there's people out there in the city, that need to be saved, not to fell down with Blis empire. She doesn't want to make it loud. Her war is silent. Her fights are almost invisible. But some stolen docs, clean water for the kids in the desert and food for Lobby rats just for them to stay alive a little bit longer, this is all her fights. And even if one day she's got caught, she will remain loyal to the ideals of freedom.
Full body and portraits of Janes office hairstyle, killjoy look and fake drac look in order
Ray guns and concept of emblem patch (it's useless tho, she doesn't use any patches, but it's still pretty)
*Jane Doe used when there's a need for a placeholder name in legal cases — and sometimes people use the term Jane Doe to mean "an average, ordinary woman," or an unidentified patient or crime victim.
Anyway, something like this. I am very happy about how she turned out, and if you read till here, then thank you, it means very much to me🤍
Also let me know if you'd like to know more about her!
That's all, have a nice day, 'joys, and keep running⚡⚡

Bengiyo's Queer Cinema Syllabus
Oh hello again everyone! Apologies to the three people who are probably interested in this syllabus journey for falling off the face of the earth for the last few months. Had a lot of life changes and travel going on and have not been falling desperately behind in all of the things I have been watching. Now that I am back home for more than two days at a time, I figured I should get back into the swing of things with @bengiyo’s queer cinema syllabus.. With this post I am officially wrapping up Unit 4: Heartbreak Alley and will get to reap my reward with Lesbians and Gems for Units 5 and 6. As a reminder the films in Unit 4 are: Bent (1997), Strange Fruit (2004), Boys Don’t Cry (1999), Brokeback Mountain (2005), Parting Glances (1986), Philadelphia (1993), The Living End (1992), Holding the Man (2015), Jeffery (1995), and Boys on the Side (1995)
Today I will be talking about:
Boys on the Side (1995) dir. Herbert Ross
[Run Time: 1:55, I watched it through Plex, Language: English]
Summary: Robin shares a ride in her car with Jane from New York to Los Angeles. They stop at Jane's friend Holly's place in Pittsburgh and take her with them west, making a long stop in Tucson. The three very different women become close friends.
Cast: - Whoopi Goldberg as Jane - Mary-Louise Parker as Robin - Drew Barrymore as Holly
___
OKAY. Shout out to me for getting through the final film in Heartbreak Alley without crying!
A trend I have noticed throughout the sad films in this section is that the vast majority of them hold the sadness until the end, which is super fair, but also something I would consider to be rather kind. Maybe it’s just me, but seeing Mysterious Skin so early on in this syllabus really altered my perception of what a difficult movie looked and felt like. The movie that compromised me the most in this unit was far and away Strange Fruit, which sits in the Mysterious Skin camp of being great and also something I will struggle to ever watch again. By comparison, a lot of the Heartbreak Alley films were fine.
I liked how much Boys on the Side was about the bonds between women and the importance of found family. I love a movie where the premise is: girls do crime and then hit the road together. I like how expertly this film was able to pull back the layers on Robin, until you hit the reveal of her HIV diagnosis. When we first meet her, she’s just a kind of put together, somewhat annoying and anal white woman that wants to hit the road for god knows what reason, and you (and Jane) roll your eyes a little at how often she is sanitizing things.
And then she vomits, and you can kind of just dismiss it as the allergies she says it is.
And then Jane leaves the car to go see Holly and Robin uses that moment alone to take some medication, and things start to unravel. She goes to bed really early, she looks haggard the longer they are endurance testing their driving on the road. Something is definitely wrong with her, and BOOM, she’s collapsed and is hospitalized, and you find out she’s HIV positive.
I liked how distinct all three of the main characters felt, and I liked their friendship with one another. The full blown, silent conversations that can pass between them. I like the little moments in a slice of life, the birthday parties, the dancing, Jane making Robin shout “Cunt” because she feels uncomfortable referring to her vagina. I liked that having HIV was just a detail in her life, and that the movie itself didn’t feel like An AIDS Movie.
Even though Robin is surrounded by red the whole time, something which I usually associate with AIDS itself because of blood and red ribbons. Robin’s car is red, the lighting in her first hospital room is read, the list of plumbers and landlords she leaves on the fridge at her old apartment in New York is red, they settle in Tuscon, they live in a house made of red clay. But she is never the one that is painted in it. She never wears red, she is not the one painted by it. Jane is the one that bleeds in this film, Jane is the one washed in the red lights of the hospital. But the bigger instances of red: the car, the house contains an entire life inside it. A friendship. Happiness, sadness, anger, joy. You barely even notice that it’s there.
When Robin’s initial case of pneumonia was resolved, the doctor wasn’t worried about it, and even though Robin did pass by the end of the film, the movie itself wasn’t about her dying of AIDS. It was about the friendship between Jane, Robin, and Holly. At least that’s how it felt for me.
Definitely my favorite part of this film was that Robin was allowed to be absolutely pissed and to kick Jane out of the house when Jane revealed her status to the man Robin liked. Jane was just trying to be helpful, and the man himself was very chill and totally fine with her status. But Jane didn’t have a right to disclose that information.
I want to know more about the writers of this film, because I liked that the person in the movie who had AIDS was not the former drug user, or the queer person, but the heterosexual, cisgender, white real estate agent. That it seems to have been a little bit of time since she got her diagnosis, and she’s got a handle on how she is dealing with her grief. She doesn’t pity herself, once Jane and Holly know about it, she’s very casual with her references to the blood tests she needs, etc.
Even if AIDS is a death sentence still in a movie like this one, I still think the film itself is kind about how they portray it. Robin can still be there for the people she cares about. She can get a very violent situation under control, she can fly across the country and testify to try to help Holly, she brings Jane happiness, music, fun. She doesn’t want a funeral, she wants a big party in the house they shared. She makes it long enough to tell Jane she was loved, to go home and meet Holly’s baby.
We don’t have to watch her die, and even though the last scene of the film itself is an empty house, the understanding that Robin is dead, we don’t have to see her mother, who already lost her husband and her son, mourn her, we don’t have to watch her die. And we are immediately handed the end credit title cards that are just a compilation of the happy moments between Jane, Holly, and Robin. They don’t make you sit in the emotions there for very long. You get the sad scene of Robin seeing the visage of her dead brother, telling Jane what she wants to happen after she’s passed. And then it is immediately followed with a birth, with happiness and humor. You get the happiness of the baby shower when Holly gets out of prison and then the sadness of a shared song and an empty house, and Jane painting her nails in the car as she continues on her journey. And then you get Robin’s face, smiling away, laughter, chaos, joy at all these little moments in the film.
A good movie to end this section on, both as a wind down piece and as an appetizer for Unit 5: Lesbians.
Favorite Moment
I think my favorite moment of the film was when Jane and Robin meet Abe for the first time. Mostly because it is absolutely fucking hilarious to watch the paragraphs of silent, judgemental conversation they are having with each other while simultaneously trying to process that Holly who accidentally murdered a guy is dating a cop. It was truly such an expert portrayal of the psychic connections you forge between close friends.
Favorite Quote
“Everyone go potty, we don’t want to have to stop,”
I know what you are thinking. “Wen, why the fuck is that your favorite quote of the film?” It’s because of the context. Picture this, you have entered an apartment that is not your own after seeing through the window that the person who responded to your newspaper ad looking for a road trip buddy is in a fight with a random guy. The apartment you enter is a mess and your road trip buddy and her friend are bleeding at the hands of an abusive, drug dealing, asshole. You have managed to get the situation under control once already through sheer force of reasonable suggestion, only to have it ruined when this woman you do not know hits the abusive fucker over the head with a baseball bat.
THEN because you don’t want to murder him, but you also don’t want him to catch up to you, you and these two women you barely know, tie this man to a chair with rope and duct tape. You have thought through the timing of how long it will take him to break through the binds and have thought about the noise and found a music disc that will last long enough to give you one hell of a head start. You are standing next to this guy who just beat up two people you barely know, who you have hog tied, and who is bleeding from his temple, and in the flattest, most mother telling her child to do a simple task way, you suggest that everyone uses the potty before they essentially enter a getaway car and escape from the scene of this assault. It was just so fucking funny to me.
Score
8/10
I enjoyed the movie, but I think I wanted a little bit more attention and depth on Jane and less on Holly. I think there were a few too many threads going on, and that some of the set up was unnecessary. But I had a good time.
And that’s it! I have finished Unit 4, I have so many more films to watch, but I inch ever closer to getting to rewatch Big Eden so onward I charge!

John Doe (Malevolent) Propaganda:
Spooky gay eldritch disaster (am I doing this right?)
Could have chosen any name for himself and picked John because a kind person called him that :)
fractured piece of an eldritch god that shares a body with a private eye after being fractured. chooses the name John Doe after said private eye goes into a coma
Because he’s an eldritch god who wants to feel human and who overcame a lot of obstacles and dangers!!! He sincerely cares about the main character!!! And he chose a name himself! Isn’t he cute??? He lost his body, he almost lost his memory, he fought for his right to exist, he loves animals, he loves his friend Arthur and I love him!
Being an ass, friendship, spooky supernatural stuff, he’s got it all
My man heard the name John Doe, realized he didn’t actually have a name, and just. Took it for himself.
I LOVE HIM. MY SON. HE’S TRYING TO CHANGE AND BE BETTER AND :(((( He’s a fragment of the soul of the King in Yellow (god of trickery and suffering iirc??) that gets trapped in a book in our realm while the rest of the King stayed in his own separate realm. When a human named Arthur Lester opens the book they get linked and John gains control of Arthur’s eyes & kills his partner (oops!). They proceed to go on a quest to find a way of separating them because neither likes the situation, and at first John (or The Entity, which is what he’s called at first) just wants to trick and use Arthur, and control his entire body (through the first season he also gets a hand & a foot) even though he doesn’t remember being The King In Yellow at the time, but Arthur makes him change and become more human. His turning point is when Arthur is shot and falls into a coma for a month. They get treated at a hospital and while John waits for Arthur to wake up so they can carry on, the body itself still gets taken care of. The time John spends alone, contemplating on humanity & everything he’s seeing and learning from Arthur, as well as the way a certain nurse speaks to him every day (specifically, she greets him good morning and good night, despite the body being unresponsive, John still hears because he is an entity linked to the body) and calls him John (they didn’t have ID on when they were found so they were classified as John Doe), changes his outlook and plans for good, and he asks Arthur to call him John; from this point on he admits he cares for Arthur, looks for his wellbeing too, and in general attempts to be a better person and to live for himself. The rest of the podcast (ongoing!!) explores Arthur & John’s relationship, struggle to survive, adventures in the eldritch… All while tackling each of their issues with themselves and each other and watching them both grow. John in specific learns to be the person he wants to be, how sometimes you’ll take a step forward and two backwards; he can be cruel and manipulative sometimes but he still tries. Personally I love his journey, it’s very realistic and you can see he is trying his best, and how he wants to be better than he was as the King In Yellow, and how much Arthur has changed him and how much he cares about him because of that; and how he’s slowly growing into being his own person :) if it ends badly ill cry so hard but!!! he’s John Doe because that’s the name he was being addressed as, and he’s made it his, and being John means he’s no longer the King and that he wants to be different, and John can fail or make mistakes but it’s part of who he is now, and that’s what matters. I am So Normal About Him
JOHN DOE (Malevolent) SWEEP
Jane Doe (Team Fortress 2) Propaganda:
Soldier’s name, Jane Doe, emphasizes the core aspects of his character. We’re given sparse, mostly comedic, details about Soldier’s past, having been rejected from every branch of the U.S. Military. Soldier represents this parody of the idea of a U.S. Soldier. He’s taken every trope to heart and blown it up, but gotten it slightly off. Hence, his name is a reference to an unidentified person, someone without a real identity, but skewed slightly to the left from just being your standard John Doe.
Rejected from every branch of the military. Used sour-cream to found a racoon sanctuary in his ex-roommate's new castle. Has lead poisoning. Him and his fiancee are like if Gomez and Morticia Addams were meathead jocks. Strips naked and douses himself in honey in order to fight things like bears and killer robots. Collects severed heads. I love him.

Thanks for the tag @firawren & @glassslippers-n-cowboyboots
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 45
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 208,023. And that's a bit surprising because a bunch of my longer fics are only on AHA or my website.
3. What fandoms do you write for? Mostly Jane Austen, all novels, Elizabeth Gaskell (Wives & Daughters), and Anne Bronte (The Tenant of Wildfell Hall). I have also technically written Oscar Wilde and My Happy Marriage, but those were very transformative.
I also have written some fics based on Kdramas, mostly for Alchemy of Souls.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
A Ride to Netherfield - Jane breaks her leg on the way to Netherfield and must stay for a month. Short one-shot (6k) and the first Pride & Prejudice variation I wrote.
Of Every Elizabeth - short and sweet Pride & Prejudice fluff, Darcy has nicknames for the plethora of Elizabeth's he's met over the course of his life (it was a super common name at the time)
Carry Me! - three vignettes of Jang Uk and Cho Yeong from Alchemy of Souls after they are married
The Fourth Bennet Sister - long fic (30k words), Pride & Prejudice variation where Kitty Bennet becomes aware that she is in a novel. She desperately tries to protect her sisters from harm.
All's Fair in Love and War - short Pride & Prejudice variation. Mrs. Bennet has weaponized compromise, men live in constant fear of being forced to marry.
5. Do you respond to comments? Yep. Every time.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Umm.... I'm not good at writing angst. I don't like characters to suffer for too long.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? All of them?
8. Do you get hate on fics? Yes, because I dared to write Mr. Darcy marrying Anne Elliot. People get more angry about that for some reason than Elizabeth Bennet marrying Captain Wentworth in the same fic. Someone even told me Darcy would rather "throw himself off of Pemberley" rather than marry anyone other than Elizabeth. (Fic is called One Week Late)
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I have written smut a few times, it's pretty vanilla because I am pretty vanilla. I was reading Victorian erotica when I wrote my longest one, A Little Before Their Marriage (Jane & Bingley fic).
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? I constantly write crossovers, my first published novel is a massive crossover, Prideful & Persuaded. One of my fun shorts is Fall on the Sword, where every canonically single woman in Austen's novels decides if they want to try for the recently divorced Mr. Rushworth.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? Not as far as I know.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? No, though someone did translate one of my meta posts from Tumblr. That was cool.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes, The Marriage Contest with Branch Cloudsky and two with Amelia Marie Logan, Poor Caroline and Inferior Connections. All Pride & Prejudice fics, all funny. (You need an AO3 account for that one, the other two are on my personal website)
14. What’s your all time favourite ship? Catherine Morland & Henry Tilney. They are the only Austen couple I cannot bear to break up.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? I am writing a queer retelling of Emma called "Different Ways of Being in Love", where Jane Fairfax and Emma were lovers as teenagers, Jane is bi, Emma is a lesbian, and Mr. Knightley is ace, but I got stuck on the middle part. Someday hopefully!
16. What are your writing strengths? I'm told I write some pretty hilarious farces. I am told I do characterization well, which is my main goal when writing fan fiction. I try to stick as close to canon as possible.
17. What are your writing weaknesses? I don't write enough filler or develop things well enough. I like writing action.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I would possibly try my hand at French, but probably never. I also have a lot of trouble reading accented speech (looking at you Wuthering Heights), so I'd probably never write it.
19. First fandom you wrote for? I am fairly certain I started writing a fix-it fic for Nineteen Eighty-Four after I read it in high school. Not sure I would be able to locate it but it did exist. The first since I started writing again was a sequel to Pride & Prejudice.
20. Favourite fic you’ve written? Probably Unfairly Caught (my other published work) or The Fourth Bennet Sister. I NEEDED to write a Mansfield Park fic because I hate the ending, so it fixed my dissatisfied feelings. My goal is to edit The Fourth Bennet Sister and get it published sometime this year.

I liked the ending of the trainee.
Maybe an unpopular opinion by what I've read in this website?
I really liked that this series didn't focus on the romance but rather on the chemistry of the whole group of trainees. We got to see how they all evolved, how they all got tangled up with each other and how they all became friends. Of course that means that when it came to the relationship of the main characters, maybe a bit was left to the imagination.
______________
But let me start with Tae and Ba-Mhee. I am so happy that they decided to keep them together. I would hate for the start of a GL couple to be cheating... And to be honest, I saw Ba-Mhee and Judy's relationship more like one of adoration and admiration other than them falling in love. Not to say that I don't think Ba-Mhee is bisexual, she FOR SURE IS. But I like that they didn't go there just for the sake of "having lesbians in the show". I also love that they didn't solve the conflict in 2 seconds but rather showed us the characters slowly realizing that they forgave each other and missed each other.
______________
When it comes to Ryan and Jane, I fell in love with them. I think that there were some communication issues at the start but I also feel like they improved on it so much. By the end, Ryan is very vocal and Jane keeps asking him "what do you want to know?" or "what do you want to ask?", even with the mv incident. Plus, it kinda makes sense that they would start like this because Jane is in a position of power over Ryan, so both are scared of crossing that line and saying something wrong.
I love that they also didn't go for the trope where one of the members of the couple drops all their dreams and opportunities to BE in a relationship. I love that Jane actually pursued his dream and is now a director and how Ryan just supports that. Of course Ryan could have forgotten all about him in the years that Jane is out and of course people fall out of love sometimes.
But isn't it more romantic that Ryan trusted Jane to come back other than Jane just dropping everything to be with Ryan?
Plus my final thoughts on this couple is that what we saw in the series were just snippets of the start of their relationship. We see Pie at some point talking about how Ryan and Jane talk for an hour every single night and how their conversations through the printer just got longer and longer. And you can't tell me the kiss on episode 11 didn't evolve to something more.
Though we get confirmation that they didn't talk for the whole time Jane was out, I still think the way it all played out wasn't rushed or problematic. Jane didn't show up and demand to be in a relationship with Ryan, they had lunch and Jane asked if anything stayed the same. That's how nervous one can get. You know he's wondering if Ryan still feels the same, if he stopped loving him.
______________
And I LOVED IT SO MUCH THAT THEY SHOWED JANE TALKING TO JO AT THE END, MY BOY WAS TRAUMATIZED BY A FEW COMMENTS (can relate) AND I LOVED HOW THEY GAVE HIM CLOSURE.
If it's the best gmmtv series I've watched? No, not really. But I laughed and cried watching it and at the end of the day I think that's what you want from a series? idk I'm rambling now

ooooo can u tell us about ur AU??!?!
Dont think I've spoke about my Creepypasta AU (not the British school one) and it's still a pretty big WIP, But I am down!!! I've been considering writing some fics for it so ;)
Okay! So the main thing is that Slenderman "feeds" off of the fear of people. Serial killers like Jeff, Nina, Liu, Jane and Natalie help him without realising it. When they become infamous enough, Slenderman proposes to them a level of supernatural support in exchange for them occasionally killing certain people of his choosing.
Meanwhile the proxies (Toby, Kate, Tim and Brian) are stuck in a more abusive relationship with Slender, where he's engineered their situations so they have to rely on him. He keeps them around in the mansion for when he wants to do an organised attack and also because their direct fear of him is pretty powerful.
The Serial Killers can enter the mansion, be that to hide, gather supplies etc... but only as long as they're following the deal with Slenderman. They don't have access to it in the same way the proxies do (I'm thinking the mansion is kinda like a haunted house. It's hierarchy is Slender -> Proxies -> Serial Killers -> Normal people) but their also not aware of the more sinister parts of the house.
Gonna put more individual character thoughts under read more :)
Toby has the most positive relationship with Slender. Primarily because unlike the other proxies he doesn't a) remember what happened pre-Slender. So he's his only frame of reference. b) know there's something wrong with how he's being treated because his brain is still affected by the abuse he faced from his dad.
The other proxies try to explain why it's wrong but it normally falls flat. They try to use their relationships with as a basis (Kate would never hurt him. Tim and Brian would never hurt each other) but Toby's like: yeah. That's because we're forced. Don't wanna know the punishment for killing one of you fuckers.
Tim and Brian are by the far the most defiant and like their life style the least. If it weren't for the fact that they saw they know if they run away, die or kill other proxies or even caused too many issues they'd just be replaced, they'd still be fighting. They plan to take advantage of all the weakness of Slender that they know. But they don't really have a solid plan. They also push the rules to their limits. Slender wants a random guy to die? Well they're gonna choose the worst guy in town.
Tim is more accepting of their situation than Brian. Tim's been dealing with Slender for a lot longer and has a bit more of a defeatist mindset between the whole thing. He settles in easier. Brian still thinks there's a life for him after he escapes, that he can get out.
I need to refresh myself on Kate but I think she's the most neutral of the 4. She goes along with what she's told to do Beyond making sure nothing bad can be linked back to her, she lets the other three do as they like.
Clockwork is the most outwardly hating of Slendy. She signs up to the deal one year after her story and already has a sort of civillian disguise set up (a normal looking prosthetic eye for example.) and was mainly living in motels and doing odd jobs to get by. While she likes the perks, such as having a place to stay and a network of people who get her, she has hard limits she won't cross. If Slenderman tried to push her past them, she'd pack up and leave. When this inevitably happens, she breaks up with Toby and goes no contact with everyone besides Jane.
Jane mainly uses Slender for his network to other killers. While part of her deal is that she can't go after those also "protected" by him, through Liu is how she first hears of Nina. Clockwork knows a couple of killers she's willing to rat out for Jane. For Jane, money and the resources to escape the police is less important because the government already provided that for her. Jane has the most neutral relationships out of everyone but she and Natalie get along well. When Natalie leaves, Jane pretends she doesn't know where she is, as long as the Clockwork killer doesn't start striking again.
Jeff and Liu have the worlds most toxic co-dependency known to man. Jeff cares a lot of Liu and attempted murder thinking it would be worse if he knew what he became. (As he gets older and can think of his life better, he only gets more firm in this decision.) Meanwhile, Liu is pacing around the hospital after being stabbed worrying about his police being too harsh on his brother and how is Jeff gonna get food? He can't exactly hide. Liu himself isn't homicidal per say but it's his way of trying to show Jeff that he's still on his side. Eventually, he just turns to murder when in tricky situations but he doesn't find enjoyment in it.
Jeff was initially offered the deal with Slender because simply hearing he might be in a nearby state is enough to make people panic, a lot. Liu's offer came after the two brothers meet and Jeff threatens to get his life together if Slender doesn't extend the deal. Liu's under no deal himself, as long Jeff is in Slenders debt, so is Liu. They never really get a reputation as a duo though.
Nina's story's basically the same. She's elated that the deal with Slender let's her meet Jeff. Or at least, get closer to meeting him. Jeff's a bit of an ass and she refuses to accept this. She slowly starts to kind of get her own identity as a serial killer while literally everyone besides Jeff tries to convince her to give up this life if it's not what she wants. Nina kind of takes it to heart.
This was going on way to long without the more detailed relationships :sobs: so I'm gonna leave it here. As mentioned, I plan on writing some fics for this AU so feel free to send me requests/prompts in my asks. Or ask me anything else about the AU.

How 911 7x04 supports four different readings
A long term, a short term, a canon and a subtextual one and all of them are valid
Just as a short reminder. In 7x03 Buck meets Tommy for the first time and instantly smitten by the cool hot pilot. Turns out the hot pilot and his best friend are best buddies. Buck feels left behind. So 7x04 lets us believe he tries everything to get Eddies attention. Turns out, he actually wanted Tommys attention. So, thats the narrative we are working with
Canon and short term narrative
So on a canon level we have Buck meets a cute pilot, tries everything to get his attention, breaks his best friend foot, gets rewarded with a kiss, a boyfriend and a coming out. A clear BuckTommy narrative.
Long Term narrative
And now it gets compliacted. Is Bucktommy a long term option? Is this a) "we see you read Buck as queer AND you ship Eddie and Buck... but the network says "no" to canon Buddie, but "yes" to bi Buck, so we give you everything we can"? We saw similar things in The Witcher for example, where people read Jaskier as pan and in love with Geralt and season 3 made really clear: "Yes he is pan, but we will never make Geraskier canon. BUt here: Jaskier now has a boyfriend."
Which btw doesn't make the queer coming out arc and the queer relationship less important or valid. I think the storytelling couldn't be more clear how much it cares for BuckTommy.
Or is this b) slow burn? Introducing: Marcus Pike aka Pedro Pascal in season 6 of The Mentalist:
For those of you who have never watched The Mentalist (have you been living under a rock?!) . It is a typical (and extremly good) crime show, 22 episodes each season, and one episode: one case
The main couple, Lisbon x Jane (Jisbon):
These cuties here. Six seasons of slow burn and pining. And the moment they nearly got together this show did what every good show did back then. They introduced a new love interest, and one half of the main couple falls for him:
Even though everyone knew that Jisbon was endgame it added even more tension, made the pining and slow burn even longer.
So what of those two options is Tommy? Someone to make the pining even longer? Or a compromise because canon Buddie is not possible?
Only time will tell and I am super curious for your opinins, Because i Think this is also where the ship war comes from.
Because Tommy could be both and it is aboslutly not clear if Tommy is here to stay or only a plot device
This is also where the subtextual narrative kicks in
If you see it from a long term POV this whole "i try to get your attention" could have second level... which eventually could be about Buddie again. From a long term POV. As in: "I wanted Tommys attention because I really liked him and because he helped me realize my true feelings... and I realized I could never have your attention." something like that.
What I want to say is: 7:04 is written in a way that the canon narrative we have today can be changed easily later without destrorying the legacy it has: canon bi Buck. Or it will be forever a Bucktommy ep... which is also amazing! (I am here for both ships! Multishipping yay!)
It is so so hard to tell and I want all your opinions in my inbox. Is Tommy a plot device that leads to canon Buddie or here to stay? Keep in mind this show could go on for ten more seasons...
And leave me alone with ship wars. If i get too many hate messages I will write a meta why Buck x Eddie x Tommy will be endgame, I swear

Twenty Questions for Fic Writers
Thank you so much dear @nocompromise-noregrets 🤗
1. How many works do you have on Ao3? 45
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count?
2,842,840
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Tolkien. The Silmarillion.
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
Fragments of Fate and Fire (This one, I don’t tend to count, as it’s mostly art. It’s much easier to look at an image than devote time to reading).
Dark Prince,
Magnificat of the Damned Book III: Fire.
A Far, Fierce Sky
Magnificat of the Damned Book II: Resurrection.
5. Do you respond to comments?
Of course. 😊 (I am grateful for them).
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Magnificat of the Damned Book IV: Anvil.
And I got some incredible comments on the last chapter that I still cherish. (It was not the end, but it was the end of that series).
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
I don’t believe in endings. Stories always continue and mine are mostly part of an ongoing series. But I have written a couple of one-shots and Requital did have a much more positive ending.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Never have, no. Or if I have it must have been mild and I’ve forgotten. But then I moderate my fics on AO3 and people usually can't be arsed to type a raging comment that won’t get published. Also I’m just not read that much. I write a lot of OC’s and people tend to scroll past, I’m sure. (I never had negative comments on LOTRFF.com or Faerie, either, and one couldn’t moderate, but again, I think it was because that kind of person just didn’t bother with them and the atmosphere was more polite on those archives).
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Sometimes. M/M. These days, it’s when it comes up, which is not so often. I find (after a particularly horrible fandom experience) that it’s like salt: you don’t need to pour it over everything. Anyhow, I’m interested in stories which have everything in them, not just sex.
10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?
No.
11. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I wrote Dark Prince and Dark Lands with Annwyn (back in 06/07) who I’m still in contact with but is no longer in fandom. She was lovely to write with.
13. What’s your all time favorite ship?
Fëanor/Fingolfin.
14. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
I want to finish A Far, Fierce Sky. I was writing that in tandem with one of the Magnificat stories and as A Light in the East and A Far, Fierce Sky, it’s sequel, were AU’s to my main arc, I had to drop one of them when I became self-employed.
I no longer have the time to write very much so I hope to survive long enough to retire and be able to do much more
15. What are your writing strengths?
Probably perseverance. I can hack through blocks and I completely ignore fandom fads so I can concentrate on my writing without dashing after the next hot take. If I get an idea I’ll follow it through.
16. What are your writing weaknesses?
Take your pick! 🤪
17. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
If used sparingly it can be effective.
18. First fandom you wrote for?
Tolkien. I’m monofandom.
19. Favourite fic you’ve written?
I think of fics in terms of how I felt when I was writing them, and if I was in the ‘zone’ so it is a tie between Dark Prince and Summerland. Tagging @cycas @ettelene @nuredhel @naryaflame @pinksiamese @crowandmoonwriting @jane-ways @antares0606 @independence1776 @lucifers-cuvette @minquelie @grundyscribbling @thenookienostradamus @swanfloatieknight @geneeste @auntieaugury @blue-istari-stars-of-the-south @feedthefandomfest and really anyone who sees this and would like to do it.

Gryfflepuff in the Tardis' Masterlist
All my Works, characters are colored by which Hogwarts House I think they're in. I am a Primary Hufflepuff, Secondary Gryffindor and I genuinely think Hufflepuff is the best and most underrated house. (Since Tumble removed the yellow color, Orange will represent Hufflepuff, except in the condition of Good Omens' Crowley who I am stuck between Gryffindor and Hufflepuff. If you disagree, please give me your best argument and I'll offer my insight of David Tennant's Crowley... Since I have nothing written for Crowley and I'm still conflicted about the news on the new "season" (THERE SHOULD BE SIX EPISODES, NOT ONE!) I've added him and other characters I haven't written for YET to my "Who I'm Willing to Write For" post.
I don't do reblogs, just because I feel that when you're searching through the posts, the reblogs clutter up the blog and get mixed with original posts but I am willing to do fan fic recommendations if requested.
You can call me either Gryfflepuff or the Eccedentiast (Not to sound by Lemony Snicket but "a word that means 'someone who hides their pain and tears and sadness behind a smile'.").
Ninth Doctor - Brooding Time Lord Who Tries To Hide His Light with Darkness
Supernova Series/Season One Masterlist (Ninth Doctor/Tenth Doctor) (Delilah "Lillie" Tyler/Princess Supernova played by Katherine Langford)
Campbell Bain - Bipolar Nineteen-Year-Old Walking Ray of Sunshine That Somehow Doesn't Do Well With Girls
Sweet Jane Masterlist (19-year-old Campbell Bain x 18-year-old Traumatized Reader)
Steve Harrington (Stranger Things) - The Hair; Nomenee for Mother of the Year
Killer Queen (Cassandra "Cassie Dare" Henderson played by Zoey Deutch; Pan Henderson played by David Tennant)
Trauma (Emilie Henderson played by Hailee Steinfeld)
Devil Town (Imogen Henderson played by Katherine Langford)
Isaac Lahey (Teen Wolf) - The Abused Puppy With a Heart of Gold Who Only Wanted the Power to Defend Himself and To Not Be Scared
Embers in the Sky Season One (Milo Stilinski played by Katherine Langford)
Spencer Reid (Criminal Minds) - The Genius Pretty Boy
(I have created so many ideas for the initial character, Zoe that I may have to split them up among Spencer Reid main character love interests and because of more complicated reasons I will explain in Valentía)
Valentía (Zoe Noble-Valdez played by Selena Gomez)
Valentía Season Masterlist
Valentía Season One
--------------------
I have created an OC to be the Henderson!OC and Dustin's father and I always choose David Tennant, he just really gives off protective I-will-kill-anyone-who-hurts-you dad vibe and I have a soft spot for an overprotective dad for his daughter (I never had that. My dad wanted a boy--granted the disapproval that's implied is possibly because my mom told me this--and he is ADHD and was always sleeping and then he moved two towns over which was an hour's drive but seemed longer in my ADHD mind but so he could sleep and I could play video games on the Xbox that's memory wouldn't save the game so I continuously had to start over. Oh, and also, there's the fact that a TV fell on me when I was five/six because I didn't understand gravity and I locked myself in the dryer when I was seven/eight. What, is that not normal? 🙄) I'm not a big crier but a father that's willing to do anything for his daughter is your best bet. Sorry for this rant.

Hi! Question for you once you've had a chance to finish S3 of Ted Lasso: I'd love to hear your perspective on how S3 could have unfolded in a more fulfilling way. No pressure, of course, but I enjoy reading your insights. :)
Okay! I am rolling up my sleeves.
EXPRESSING-OPINIONS-ON-THE-INTERNET CAVEAT: I am not a media critic, and not everything in this post will be cohesive, well-thought-out, and non-contradictory. I do not for a moment pretend that my opinions are Correct, they are merely my own.
SECOND CAVEAT: At this point, with where they left arcs, I'm about 80% sure that depending on how the WGA strike goes (crossing my fingers for them) and any corporate retaliation for that, there will be a spinoff or continuation sans Ted. More of their choices make sense if that is true, even if I don't love the thought (let shows end!!!), so this is all changes I would make assuming s3 is the final season.
The thing about this season, for me, is that any given episode or moment was largely really enjoyable for me! Sure, a few quibbles, and the whole Roy and Keeley thing we will get to in a moment, but if I ignored the fact that I was watching a season, most things worked for me. Looking at it as a season, though, it was too busy, in a way that meant the show dropped a lot of things I wanted to see more of.
So, when pondering this question, I think that there's no way to keep everything I love while getting rid of only the things that annoyed me or that didn't feel right to me. And in the end, I'd rather miss things that weren't there than be annoyed with things that are present, so my take on s3 would streamline a lot of things to engage with others.
Oh boy, this is already long, time for a cut.
Change #1: Roy and Keeley do not break up. There was simply no reason for this, and especially no reason for it to happen off-screen. They can still fight and have difficulties, and Roy can deal with his mental health, but it's just unnecessary drama and I never understood it. This also prevents Roy and Jamie's weird last-episode regression to fighting over her and forcing her into shitty positions.
Change #2: Most of Keeley's plotlines change. All of the KJPR plots and characters were interesting, but they also busied the season up too much. So I'd have her actually building up a one-woman business without Jack (or, tragically, Barbara), maybe doing the Shandy thing and grappling with that for longer, or her dealing with the Establishment the way Rebecca does so often, trying to make them see her as a businesswoman and not a footballer's girlfriend.
Change #3: Beard and Jane break up. We get to carry over the threads from s2 from the Beard episode and from Higgins expressing his concern, instead of treating the way Jane treats him as comedy. We also get to counteract this show's everyone-deserves-not-just-forgiveness-for-everything-but-also-to-be-in-your-life-again message with one instance of someone setting out a boundary and sticking to it.
Change #4: Many of Nate's plots change. As with Barbara, I would really regret losing Jade, but I think there are better uses of Nate's screentime--he was set up to be a real main character in s2 and I felt like I hardly saw him in s3. What I really wanted was for Nate to learn how to have power over people responsibly, I think? I'd have chosen either for him to grit his teeth and stay at West Ham (perhaps while joining the conspiracy to overthrow Rupert) or, when he left, for him to somehow end up coaching a kids' team, and learn gentleness in authority that way. It would pick up this show's really genuinely cool theme of "once one person makes a point of stepping out of the cycle of abuse and trauma it can ripple out around them" in interesting ways.
And while there are many other tweaks I'd make (more Sam, his last focus plot was SO goddamn miserable; eliminate everything about the psychic; goodbye to Rebecca's boat stranger), I'm going to finish with the last big one, which is
Change #5: Ted gets to do something besides reinvent total football, pine for his son, and make speeches that should have been edited down to a third of their length tops. He just seems so checked out this whole season, just talking about how none of the work he's done is on him, all focused on Henry in the wrong ways, so that going back to Kansas felt more like a horrible sacrifice than a choice that will bring him fulfillment or contentment. He was always going to go back to Kansas and his son, much as I wasn't wild about that, but it doesn't feel like a new beginning for him, just like he's going back to his old life with a little more knowledge of football and more knowledge of how to model good parenting and relationships for his kid (while not, from the way I interpreted that last expression, dealing any further with his own mental health). It felt weirdly dark for this show.
(Also I know this show loves its book theming, and I know it's The Wizard of Oz (see: a song from The Wiz playing over the credits to the penultimate episode), but have they considered that in subsequent Oz books Dorothy and her family move back to Oz? Things to consider.)
#anyway this is purely about changes#not about complaining about some other things that bothered me this season#so hopefully it is not too negative for anyone who's feeling good about where things ended!#poetryincamelot#answered asks#ted lasso spoilers#i super do not want to get into Discourse please let's not#mostly people do not do that over here#but recent and divisive show finales can be touchy subjects

hi hello
I'm here to write about my experience while reading the latest writing of wanderer. (it shall contain what I'm doing as I'm reading and my reactions - so if you don't wanna read it - that is a-okay!)
I'M STANDING IN -3°C OR EVEN LESS ON A TRAIN STATION FREEZING. I'm reading this by taking a glove off of my hand to scroll and then switching it to the other (taking the other glove off putting this one on) - pain fr, and then smiling to myself like a love struck idiot at 6 FUCKING AM. ON A FOGGY CROWD FILLED TRAIN STATION.
you did say in the a/n that the first part was "unnecessary" but I enjoyed the potrayal of friendship - it fleshed out the mc fr. also didn't except Heizou to be so touchy bUT THEN I gave it a second more of thought (lol) and I can see it. wanderer wearing all black is fucking canon in my eyes in modern!teyvat/world/somewhere.
the flashback was written really cutely, managing to catch the good vibes and capture, in a quite the short amount of text, the history the two have. (except like why does he think he hurt them-myb he thinks it is cos they left? idk listen I'm still sleepy if I missed something dO NOT HATE ME I WILL REREAD LATER TODAY)
next, I manage to find a spot in the train to sit, now nice and warm, chuckling at the boys & mc interaction in the hotel room
takiNG PAUSES - TURNING MY PHONE OFF AND LOOKING OUT INTO THE DARKNESS OF THE MORNING WHEN THEY KISS???? WHEN HE SAYS ANYTHING? I'm out here yet again smiling to myself and looking out of the window before continuing my reading
little love confessions cute! cute! cute!
thE FUCKING CUDDLES THE CUDDLES THE. CUDDLES. as a deeply touched deprived person with main love language being physical affection (with only selected few I care for, otherwise I hate any physical contact) my reaction is - YES. tysm. bless, thank you for your service.
it warmed my heart, perfect perfect perfect. ALSO THE LINE - I JUST RECALLED, THE LINE "You think I'd settle for less than you" - screenshoted, screamed internally, felt special, felt pain no one in this bitch ass world has me yet like that - no one ever will prob let US BE REAL (I'm mentaly dating all of them fictional mfs) , looked out of the window, paused, thought about stuff, leaned my head back to reimagine the scene as I try to also nap and fAIL cos I'm too hyped to read it - like man! 5k words - a LOT (it indeed was not a lot, I forgot how fast I read even when I reread lines and pause, and that I finish a thick ass book in 2 hours.)
it was slow burn without the slow but you worded it so nicely, paced it out, captured the essence of the thought proccess of a "crush" and stuff. also heizou being mentioned so much DOES make sense in the way - that ofc you'd think to tell your bsf this shit and chat with him DUH.
the detail of Aether texting his sister warmed my heart.
roll back a bit earlier - did I mention my train arrived late to my station - and in the freezing dark cold morning I smile and was like "ehe" cos I get to read this in PEACE for 15 mins longer - cos of the late train.
roll back to the present. after the kiss someone sits next to me so I'm putting my phone away, like I'm reading straight up smut of some shit, yet again rethinking everything you wrote.
then I see "a/n" - cut to me screaming, yelling, crying internally for more - feeling like it just began - I need the two days, I need more of the kissing, I need how they solve the end of vacay, and how they work all of it out - ALSO WHERE IS XIAO AMONGST MY ANEMO BOYS
on the topic of xiao I do understand it would be difficult for me as well to put the two boys I love the most in the same fic and just not have anything with one of them. furthermore, I understand one of your notes on a Xiao writing you did as a Xiao main. Listen me too, I could not write about my beloved. it would be a struggle just like it is for you but I KNOW WHY LET ME TELL YOU WHY - to quote Jane Austen "If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more" I rest my fucking case.
I CAN FURTHER SUPPORT MY CLAIM WITH THIS - I'm talking to my friend the other day about genshin and he's like tell me about you favorite character, I say a bit while also trying to keep it spoiler free but I struggle so much, because my mind just fills with everything about him, every single thing Xiao has been through and dear gods how do I say it all, how to get across everything he is, has been through. yeah. the quote is true.
I beg on my knees for somehow another part of this wanderer writing I'm just gnawing at a train plush soft cushion (not literally).
every timE I READ ONE OF YOUR THINGS ABOUT THE SHORT SNARKY BOY I'M ALWAYS SMILING TO MYSELF ALWAYS PAUSING LOOKING AWAY, WHAT DO YOU PUT IN THIS WHAT IS THIS SORCERY?
I am very aware of how long this is, hope it wasn't boring - but HEY it is an ask, so technically you can ignore me
I probably didn't manage to caputre all my thoughts while reading it cos I'm just still very tired - hope you have a great day
ps. I could very well write an ask about how I started enjoying (read: liking) Wanderer + how the pulls went (it would be more put together than this ask honestly lmk)
pps much love, keep writing stuff x
hi hello! of course id love to read. i love the trend of sending long asks like this!! the only time i dont like long asks is when readers are requesting something---i dont like that at all :/ but youre not doing that!!! youre talking about your experience in reading my works and it really really warms my heart reading through it
OH NO T__T i cant even imagine. my countrys temperature never falls below 25-30°C so i cant even imagine surviving outside when the numbers are NEGATIVE T__T
the first part was absolutely unnecessary HAHA but thank you for justifying it. My hopeless crush wormed in and i wrote too much to just delete it sigh…
now for your question--scara moved out and essentially left the reader. it was more of a reference to scaramouche's canon backstory. he felt hurt that ei left him! and now, he's leaving the person he cares about. of course, in my head, he would assume that you'd feel what he felt. its why i put scaras mommy issues in the tags hahaha
im glad you like their interaction!! i loved writing their banter so much. i love writing scara talking to anyone in general because the way he talks is the way i think irl LOL
im so glad you also like the "you think i'd settle for less than you" line!!! ill tell u a secret. a few minutes before posting the fic it wasn't even there, but after reading through it i thought it would fit perfectly with the way i wrote scaramouche's character :D
and im so glad u pointed out the pacing!!! in all honesty i am far from confident with my pacing. i never know if im doing it right so thank u so much for saying that!!!!!!!! T__T <3 i dont know if i should clap for the late train for letting you read in peace? ??
LMFAOOO IM SO SORRY. this is exactly why i avoid reading fanfiction out in public even if i dont read smut. these strangers cannot know that i read about scaramouche kissing me.
and also fun fact!!!!! in the previous author note, it was not written that way. let me show you proof!! i cant find it rn but ill go into the version history version of my docs :D
AHHH that quote is so real im stealing that sorry. Everytime someone brings up why i dont write xiao enough ill pull that up !!!!! i know exactly what u mean :/
and about a part two… some people are already asking for it but i just don't do part twos T__T unless its stated in the fic that there's another part coming--it means that that's it…… your imagination will probably do better than whatever i can cook anyway !!!
#i rlly rlly do appreciate long asks when u guys talk abt ur thoughts ab my stuff :(#thank u again#606:inbox#606: iamjustaslytherinrose#long post

Because he's an eldritch god who wants to feel human and who overcame a lot of obstacles and dangers!!! He sincerely cares about the main character!!! And he chose a name himself! Isn't he cute??? He lost his body, he almost lost his memory, he fought for his right to exist, he loves animals, he loves his friend Arthur and I love him!
Being an ass, friendship, spooky supernatural stuff, he’s got it all
My man heard the name John Doe, realized he didn’t actually have a name, and just. Took it for himself.
I LOVE HIM. MY SON. HE'S TRYING TO CHANGE AND BE BETTER AND :(((( He's a fragment of the soul of the King in Yellow (god of trickery and suffering iirc??) that gets trapped in a book in our realm while the rest of the King stayed in his own separate realm. When a human named Arthur Lester opens the book they get linked and John gains control of Arthur's eyes & kills his partner (oops!). They proceed to go on a quest to find a way of separating them because neither likes the situation, and at first John (or The Entity, which is what he's called at first) just wants to trick and use Arthur, and control his entire body (through the first season he also gets a hand & a foot) even though he doesn't remember being The King In Yellow at the time, but Arthur makes him change and become more human. His turning point is when Arthur is shot and falls into a coma for a month. They get treated at a hospital and while John waits for Arthur to wake up so they can carry on, the body itself still gets taken care of. The time John spends alone, contemplating on humanity & everything he's seeing and learning from Arthur, as well as the way a certain nurse speaks to him every day (specifically, she greets him good morning and good night, despite the body being unresponsive, John still hears because he is an entity linked to the body) and calls him John (they didn't have ID on when they were found so they were classified as John Doe), changes his outlook and plans for good, and he asks Arthur to call him John; from this point on he admits he cares for Arthur, looks for his wellbeing too, and in general attempts to be a better person and to live for himself. The rest of the podcast (ongoing!!) explores Arthur & John's relationship, struggle to survive, adventures in the eldritch… All while tackling each of their issues with themselves and each other and watching them both grow. John in specific learns to be the person he wants to be, how sometimes you'll take a step forward and two backwards; he can be cruel and manipulative sometimes but he still tries. Personally I love his journey, it's very realistic and you can see he is trying his best, and how he wants to be better than he was as the King In Yellow, and how much Arthur has changed him and how much he cares about him because of that; and how he's slowly growing into being his own person :) if it ends badly ill cry so hard but!!! he's John Doe because that's the name he was being addressed as, and he's made it his, and being John means he's no longer the King and that he wants to be different, and John can fail or make mistakes but it's part of who he is now, and that's what matters. I am So Normal About Him
JOHN DOE (Malevolent) SWEEP
John Doe (Ace Attorney) Propaganda:
technically John Doe is the fake name he uses to hide his identity as an assassin but uh, that's still the name he goes by. its because his real surname is literally "de killer" so.
His real name is Shelly de Killer, but he uses the pseudonym John Doe. Does that still count?

Reading This Week 2024 #46
Good morning everyone! After this post goes up I'm booking it to get to an a capella performance I'm in
Finished:
Shadow by Anne Logston This was an absolute delight to read, and makes me really glad that I pick up random fantasy paperbacks in used bookstores whenever I can. the protagonist Shadow is so endearing if you love bold messy women, and the action/mystery plot in it was gripping enough, without drowning out my enjoyment of Shadow as a just a fun little blorbo to follow around. great and entertaining
sturm und drang by spit_kitten on ao3 a little hobby of mine is wading through the muck of ao3's Original Fiction tag to find whatever gay romances are being posted there. This is an old favorite histrom of mine from doing that: incredibly earnest young man gets irony-poisoned painter to Feel Something. I especially love the side character Harry with all of my heart. go check it out if you want something light and sweet
Blue Box, Vol. 5 by Kouji Miura, translated by Christine Dashiell Blue Box continues to really scratch that high school romance itch.I love seeing Chinatsu's like style sense being so casual. I like that a not-very-feminine girl is just casually the main love interest (without Chono the more girly girl in the love triangle isn't given shit for being very fem)
"Monstrous Fantasies: Reinforcing Rape Culture in Fiona McIntosh's Fantasy Novels" by Lenise Prater I am so glad I found Prater and all the people she's citing so I can cite her and them in my own MA paper, and also so frustrated that she slipped through the cracks of my initial search! I really only have myself to blame bc I checked and a different article of hers to cited in an article I already found, but aaaaaaaaaa. because I'm so late in the semester I mostly skimmed this for what I could immediately quote and incorporate into my paper
Introduction & Chapter 1 from Between Men: English Literature and Male Homosocial Desire by Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick I've been meaning to read Sedgwick for a while, and I'll definitely read more, but for now I just got this so I could cite its direct relevance to my paper on my advisor's recommedation
"Medievalism and the Fantasy Heroine" by Jane Tolmie found through some citations, has some great bits to quote in my own work
The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Díaz, audiobook narrated by Jonathan Davis and Staci Snell read on the recommendation of Hope in my grad program (thank you Hope for gifting me a copy). Honestly i find the way it engages with pop culture/nerd culture a bit abrasive and name-drop-y, but so it goes. I guess that is the way of love of nerds engage with nerd culture
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, Vol. 6 written by Kanehito Yamada, art by Tsukasa Abe I continue to not be all that impressed with the first-class mage exam arc. It's way longer than basically any previous arc in the manga, and I think that really bogs it down. A lot of the charm of Frieren for me was it's shorter more self contained adventures, so having this multi-volume long Thing that basically ignores one member of our core three is very tedious for me
Until I Love Myself: The Journey of Nonbinary Manga Artist, Vol. 1 by Poppy Pesuyama, translated by Emily Balistrieri This is a manga about the artist's experience with sexual harassment through their life and how that has often coincided with and worsened their gender dysphoria as a nonbinary person. Pesuyama really excellent captures the transmasculine feeling of like the trauma of sexual violence getting muddled with already distressing feelings of dysphoria to create a very powerful self-loating and blame for having the body you have. Very well done, but I actually found it more triggering to read than I expect, and had to go play video games for the rest of the evening instead of reading the second volume
Started/Ongoing:
Magic's Price by Mercedes Lackey I'm kind of obsessed with the romance between Vanyel and Stefan. go wizard go! Have a kinda problematic age gap relationship, where the younger party is the active pursuer because you, a sad gay wizard, have committed yourself to celibacy because of your fear of emotional intimacy! this is like a gift to me specifically I'm really vibing with it

Get To Know Me!
Tagged by @justafoxhound
• Do you play an instrument?
Musical, no (I trained in singing though). The only "instrument" I regularly play is a game controller, lol
• Favourite book characters?
I love books as a whole so individual characters rarely stand out much for me. I related to the main character in Barbara Kingsolver's Bean Trees, and love the characters in Bleak House and many Jane Austen novels. The main characters in The Southern Reach Trilogy are iconic to me, and the characters in We Have Always Lived in the Castle spoke for me in many ways.
Book characters often feel like they are me, so having a favorite book character would be like having a favorite limb or internal organ. I love all of me, so I love all those characters. The only times where I've had "favorites" is when the books get adapted to TV/film and feel separate from me.
Got real deep there, but best way I could explain it.
• Favourite colour schemes?
Currently I'm a sucker (and i mean sucker) for that iridescent, anodized titanium look. I bought these in 2022 and I LOVE them:
This color scheme mixes well with the Miami Vice colors I am into atm. I'm also easily drawn in by the trendy emerald/black/gold look:
I have many opinions on interior design...
(PREV MENTIONED COCONUT ICE OMG I LOVE COCONUT ICE but i haven't had it since i was a kid and never knew what it was called and omg thank you i can finally make it or buy it myself with this knowledge *kisses you on both cheeks*)
• Naps or long sleep?
Long sleep! I am at peak performance in the 8–9hr range, but any excuse to sleep in longer is lovely. Naps rarely refresh me, and I miss parts of my day. To really know me in this respect is to know I am an irresponsible night owl who will stay up all night if I have no morning obligations.
• What languages do you speak?
English and paltry Spanish. I practiced Spanish more at my old job than I ever did for school or with Spanish-speaking family, but still am not fluent.
• Dreams/aspirations?
Move somewhere beautiful with someone wonderful and do good work there, but have a vacation home in another climate. Funny how dreams/aspirations change depending on your age/situation.
• Long hair or Short Hair?
Short, please. I've had long, heavy hair all my life and it gets into everything. I like having flippy hair though, so shoulder-length probably better describes my preference.
• Tea or coffee?
COFFEE. Have finally achieved "cup a joe in the morning" status because it's helpful for me.
• Bring a book character to life or go into a fictional world?
Go into a fictional world. Just to study it so I can portray it accurately in fanfic ;)
Tagging: okay, i forget who I follow for writing and who I follow for fandom, so this isn't easy to tag but I will at least tag @insanitysilver @jfictitional @kirarahu and @evelynmlewis
Literally anyone who wants to do this, you are officially tagged by me.
