— i used to be a fanfic writer that wrote primarily on w.attp.ad. one of my works got A LOT of hits after i stopped writing,,, i mean like 350k views last time i checked. my goal back then was to hit 1 mil but ofc i don't have the time now — i'm also a published author but only for like one book — i have a pet cat that was given to me when i was in middle school. i actually have... no idea how old she was when we got her. i still don't know how old she is. but she still looks & acts young,,, she also acts so sophisticated/stuck up so i've been convinced that she's an immortal being that is just here for the free snacks and a nice home

EXPERIENCE

HOW LONG — i've been writing ever since i was in middle school (6-7th grade) but that was for fanfiction. i joined my first ever tumblr rp community i wanna say like... freshman/sophomore year of high school? it helped me get through a lot of rough times as it was like a form of escapism for me. i believe the first community i joined was the d.etroit b.ecome h.uman rpc. i stayed in that for a FAT minute before i was into the o.verwatch rpc and then the d.ragon a.ge rpc. if you wanna check out my really old blogs (they aren't active anymore, but i kept them up so i can look at them here and there) here they are: @ask-the-rk900 , @fen-dwxller, @bxckle-up @luridhearted @scxrred-prince (luridhearted was an attempt at a multimuse HAH) WHAT PLATFORMS — primarily tumblr, before i shifted over to discord for a couple years as i only had time to rp with like one person. afterwards, i ended up coming back to tumblr. if you're talking about now, i only rp on tumblr because i have too much fun with formatting my posts BEST EXPERIENCE — i had an rp partner that was like my bestie throughout my highschool years. we had our own ocs and they were always sad and depressed because we were too LMAO. but during that time, i absolutely LOVED our rps and our own characters. we drifted apart because of our own differences, but i hope they're doing okay now. they still influence me heavy to this day, and every now and then i look back at our stories that we made together. always missing you, ash.

FEMALE OR MALE — i've never really written female muses, unless they are older..(?) an example of this is a.na a.mari from o.verwatch. i've always loved writing male muses. a niche that i'd like to say that i'm particularly good at is the closeted bisexual that always believed they were straight and is in constant denial. oh, and rockerboy. i take a lot of inspiration from a fanfic for that sort of portrayal and it's so heavily ingrained in my brain. astarion is so not that but it's a nice change of pace. his rockstar AU helps me go back to my roots though. FLUFF , ANGST OR SMUT — i LOVE angst. angst is my go-to thing-- i feel like i'm some kind of sadist that loves seeing my muse get hurt????? is there something wrong with me???????? an example of this is fluff masking the angst underneath. ORRRR smut masking the angst underneath. it's been years since i've written anything remotely smutty and i have no idea if i can still write it hahaha PLOTS OR MEMES — i prefer a little bit of both. send in a meme, maybe even plot about how to go about it? or vice versa. those are SO yummy LONG OR SHORT REPLIES — depends on the mood of the day. most of the time i love making long replies because the muse tends to get carried away (he's very talkative, as you all know) but i know that a lot of gems come from short little banter-like threads so i love those too! BEST TIME TO WRITE — whenever the muse lets me. sometimes astarion gives a little pouty face and tells me he's too tired and doesn't wanna interact. sometimes astarion is bursting with energy cause he needs someone to fuck around with. sometimes... astarion is full of himself and wants to stare at pictures of himself. the muse wants what the muse wants, and if i force it, it's the first step to losing my muse ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S) — on a trauma level, me && astarion are very similar. both of us felt like we needed to overly-sexualize ourselves to people who we deemed worthy of protecting us, so there is a sense of performance that we need to bring to every relationship. it's hard for the both of us to take off that mask since it's so second nature to us. i haven't been physically scarred by another person like astarion has, but i do have my own scars for other reasons. to me, astarion is essentially an embodiment of my past trauma that i can express in a healthy way. i guess that's why i've stuck with him longer than i have with any other muse---because of how familiar he is. (also, back with my rp partner i had on discord, neil was their faceclaim as well so that's a double whammy)

hohoo you are enabling me I mainly talk about my ocs on my art/oc blog, @god-mouths !! i can show you some of my absolute faves rn tho

louis :] toh oc, he's a grimwalker who fell through a time pool. currently acting as kikimora's assistant in an infiltration effort of present day bonesborough. he has uhh (counts on my fingers) 4 adopted sisters. very quiet, loves mysteries. He's struggling a little in his efforts rn because zina usually talks for him & she's not there rn, but he's doing fine.

ryker! this guy is a BIG comfort oc. nothing too special about him, he's a college student with problems. its not very clear but he's an object head with a recycling basket for a head. said basket got cleaved in with a sword so there's now a giant gaping wound in his face that acts as an eye/mouth. The hair is actually like thrown away paper

betty!!! she is a dream god who used to be worshipped by a pretty well known cult before everything died out and humans went extinct. She used to be able to see the dreams of people using the stars as her eyes, but with the industrial revolution causing air polution and blocking out the stars, she slowly just...couldn't see anything. This understandably makes her insanely angry as for demons, I got plenty of those but the first one that comes to mind that would probably be the funniest to interact with AG is Eros, a gameshow host in hell.

Even visibly pregnant she felt like the wait staff were still judging her. "And umm..." she paused as she narrowed her eyes to think, "oh! A piece of cake?" She asked with a grin. "Pleeeease?"

Tony stepped behind his sister, hands ready to use either his bow and arrow or his magic, though for now he was content to stay behind his twin. "Alright I take that back apparently he does understand us." He laughed nervously. "Sorry, uh... dragon? I didn't really mean anything by it, it's just been awhile since we were here and I was not expecting to see a dragon today." He admitted.

"You are a such a baby." Effy rolled her eyes, though she didn't avert her gaze from the dragon in front of them. As her eyes darted around the dragon, she took in more of his injuries. "Because we're good people. My brother is definitely more used to our realm but we're finding our footing here." Effy lifted her right hand as it glowed a warm off-white colour.

"We've been tracking ogres and that led us to you. Was it them who hurt you?" The ogre war had started again after being at a standstill for nearly three decades and they had devastated many towns just outside their families kingdoms. "Can we help?"

Jaw slammed shut, he shifted to the side as his wings folded half-way. His gaze switched between the two strangers, a guttural sound ticked in his throat as he stared at the man who seemed to question his intelligence, and stopped as he then looked to the woman who defended otherwise.

His pupils dilated, but when she stepped forward, his maw parted with a low hiss. The dragon brings his head down, nostrils flared as he breathed in their scent. A wing twitched, the injured one. Ogres were blind but once they've discovered you, they were tough, especially in groups.

Rex turned his head abruptly to snarl at the man, his teeth snapped at the air. Only a tease, he really wasn't so fond of his earlier comment. This aggressive display ceased when he returned his attention to the girl. ❝ Why help? ❞

Girl, So Confusing - Charlie xcx (Featuring Lorde)

(The Original)

Girl, So Confusing is a song featured on Charlie xcx's 2024 Album, 'brat', and it sparked mass popularity online for its theorised alluding towards another female pop artist, Lorde.

This was put together as the pre-chorus of the song mentions that people say that her and this girl 'have the same hair'*, and that they both talk about making music together.

Despite this, Charli has her doubts.

She cites that she's not sure if this girl actually likes her, or if any of their interactions together are genuine, prompting her to question if she hates her.

The second chorus mentions that the girl is 'all about writing poems', where Charli prefers to throw parties, and fans have pointed out that this could be an indirect mention towards MARINA (And the Diamonds).

As of 2024, MARINA has been updating on her social media that she is releasing a book of poems titled 'Eat The World', so this could be where the writing poems comes in.

*The quote about 'having the same hair' requires some context, and this goes back quite a long way.

Charli and Lorde have been enduring the comparisons between them for years, likely from once they'd both debuted, but in 2014, Billboard did an interview with Charli addressing the joke by mistaking her for Lorde.

She does so by mentioning that her favourite Charli xcx song was 'Royals', which was Lorde's breakout song in 2013, released when she was only 16.

Charli then goes along with the bit, explaining 'her' inspiration behind writing the song.

The reason being for these comparisons between Charli and Lorde is that... They've got the same hair!

It's been the punchline of many jokes that the way Charli styles her hair looks extremely similar to Lorde, along with her overall appearance seeming close to hers.

Charli has gone on the record, interviewed by Zane Lowe of Apple Music 1, citing that she was 'fully ready' for Lorde to never speak to her again following the song's release.

Along with speaking to 'Rolling Stone', admitting that she was jealous of the success Lorde had gained from her song, 'Royals'.

Quote: 'You piece all this stuff together in your brain, like: "She was into my music. She had big hair; I had big hair. She wore black lipstick; I once wore black lipstick." You create these parallels and think, "Well, that could have been me."'

Along with that, before the scheduled release for 'brat' in America, Charli had called Lorde to explain the song to her, likely in an attempt to lessen the blow the song might have.

With Lorde having responded that she already guessed what song it was, as the album had been already released in New Zealand (where Lorde is from.

But then Lorde would note that it would be cool if she had released a response to the track, and the next Monday, Lorde had texted her own verse of the song to Charli.

And just like that, history was made.

On June 21st, the world completely shifted on its axis, as Charli xcx had released the 'Girl, So Confusing Version Featuring Lorde', and it had sparked the massive amount of popularity and memes alike, coining the term "work it out on the remix", which is to apologise and make it up with someone.

Originally being a standalone track, Girl, So Confusing featuring Lorde would then be able to be featured on an album, along with the Guess (featuring Billie Eilish) remix and Von Dutch (featuring Addison Rae and A.G Cook) remixes on Charli's new album,

Which was a remixed version of the album, featuring popular artists like Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande, continuing on the brat legacy.

Lorde has gone on record, citing that: "I love that we truly did work it out on the remix. There’s something very brat about that, something very meta and modern. Only Charli could make that happen. She had opened up a channel between us, and it made me say things that I had never said. I was articulating things I’d never said or maybe even things I’ve never even heard said. This whole thing has been such a huge honour."

I will be linking this post in my rules, but since the new dra.gon a.ge game is out and I suspect people will be playing it & roleplaying characters from it... here are some things I'd like to disclose / discuss to prevent any issues for myself or discomfort for others going forward. please bear with me, I was very anxious writing this.

please tag your spoilers & anything relating to gameplay, choices, etc. this isn't just for my benefit but for the benefit of others who may not have the ability to purchase the game or play it frequently enough to avoid spoilers. in general I feel pictures of player characters & NPCs are okay, but use your best judgement regarding context and whether the screenshots include dialogue.

I will not follow dra.gon a.ge roleplay blogs first. I had bad experiences in the darpc and while I will not transpose the blame of my previous experiences on those who choose to write in the fandom currently I do still have a lot of anxiety about engaging with the fandom that I hope others can understand and respect. I make exceptions for folks who I am currently mutuals with and/or have been following on other blogs. I will follow multis with da muses on a case by case basis, mostly defined by what muses are available for interaction. the only reason I can foresee having for not following a blog back, beyond anxiety, is a lack of verses outside of da / if I feel there is no interaction potential. but speaking to anxiety, I reserve the right to block (or softblock, as I will do my best to respect folks rules / preferences in this regard) blogs at any time if I become overwhelmed or feel anxious. please note that this, especially in terms of being involved with the darpc / da fandom, is NOT PERSONAL and if folks have other blogs that aren't strictly related to da I'm happy to follow / interact with those.

in general, I don't care if you have da muses on your multi or a da verse(s) for your character(s). all I care about is having the ability to opt out of engaging with da content should I choose to or feel the need to. in general I have a vast variety of tags blacklisting the game and spoilers, a list I am adding to as I see people post; it would be incredibly amazing if folks could utilize a tag, whether for a verse, a gameplay tag, or a spoilers tag in general so I can blacklist it and avoid seeing da related content on my dash (giving me the option to opt into viewing the posts or not). this is NOT a requirement of following me or being a mutual, its just a nifty thing I would appreciate if folks could try to do for me. again, I'm not going to be angry at folks for talking about the game, posting about it, or roleplaying da stuff. I'm not going to block folks, stop talking to people, or stop interacting with people because they choose to play the game and roleplay in the darpc.

in general, understand that if I am following you and you are posting da content, writing predominantly da muses / verses, etc then I am comfortable with having you on my dash & the amount of content I am seeing related to da, tagged or not. if that changes I will do what I need to preserve my space, but in general I do not appreciate people assuming about my intentions or wellbeing. if you have concerns about me following you / what I am exposing myself to then I encourage you to talk to me about it, but in general know I have my best interests in mind and know what I am doing, making conscious decisions. again, I'm not aiming to control or censor anyone, I'm not expecting anyone to accommodate me, and I take responsibility for what I choose to engage with.

please understand I am doing my best to overcome my anxiety through slow exposure therapy. I am genuinely hopeful that by playing the game and engaging with people whom I feel safe with will help me build confidence and feel safer with da content in general. however, I will say that as of now I have zero interest in returning to the da fandom or involving myself with the darpc. only time will tell if I eventually feel comfortable enough to return, but for now I would appreciate folks patience and respecting me / my decisions through this process.

This blog features a world and character of my creation. Maedi is a former naval officer who has turned to piracy, along with her crew, in the aftermath of a war. More information can be found on the relevant pages, including overviews for quick reference.

This character is very crossover friendly. I will have several verses available including: St.ar W.ars, Ma.ss Eff.ect, DND / BG.3, and Dra.gon A.ge. I'm always happy to do some plotting to make things work!

INTERACTING.

Interactions are currently dependent on memes and plotting. I will only rarely post starter calls. However, I encourage my partners to send in memes and continue my responses as threads! I will also continue meme responses my partners have written unless they have specified otherwise.

As a note, when I say plotting, I don’t necessarily mean detailed, expansive, complex plots. I am very much open to that, but plotting can also be as simple as establishing a setting or inciting incident. Whatever gets the ball rolling!

Behavior & Ecology: Activity/Movement Patterns & Territory

The risk of interspecific predation is, by definition, absent for apex predators living within a natural system. Once that system has been significantly and anthropogenically altered, this will not always remain the case. Various studies [1-2] have determined that apex predators are capable of perceiving and responding to anthropogenic risks and will do so in ways akin to those exhibited by natural prey species. Like other canid species, coywolves will exhibit altered activity patterns, shifting away from areas and/or times of increased human presence [3-6], therefore decreasing the risk of potentially lethal encounters with people.

Activity patterns—ranging from movement to foraging to grooming [4]—allow an animal to efficiently exploit its environment while minimizing risk and are influenced by a variety of environmental and individual factors [3]. Movement patterns are a subset of activity patterns and significantly impact home range and territory sizes, habitat utilization, and population density [7].

In altering these patterns, coywolves have increased their odds of successfully living alongside humans. Studies of their activity and movement patterns throughout various (sub)urban areas show little to no diurnal movement, moderate amounts of crepuscular activity, and high rates of nocturnal activity [4-8]. High rates of diurnal activity are only typical of populations that either (1) live farther from humans or (2) face lower rates of persecution [3-6].

In forested and largely undisturbed areas, for example, activity is usually spread equally throughout the day [4-5]. Possible explanations for this include differences in the availability of cover, prey activity patterns, and human-coyote interactions. It may be that these differences are also reflective of sex differences in mate search and parental activities. Males have been found to travel the farthest, and their mean daily distances are markedly greater than those of females, especially during the breeding season [4-6]. This increase in movement has been attributed to either (1) unpaired male coyotes traveling farther to find receptive mates or (2) increased territoriality.

Home range and territory are synonymous. While the first refers to an area regularly visited in search of food or mates, the latter expands on the definition by implying a level of protectiveness against outsiders—in other words, they become territorial. Most wild canids exhibit a high level of territoriality, so most of their home range will also be their territory. In coywolves, this will equate to between 5 and 10 square miles (12.9–25.9 km^2) in (sub)urban areas and 15-20 square miles (38.8–51.8 km^2) in rural areas [5]. Because they can travel long distances quickly (usually 10-15 mi [16.1–24.1 km] per day) [5; 4, 6-7], they may be located anywhere within their home range at any given time.

Because "older, well-established individuals effectively guard considerably larger areas from other packs" [5, p. 83], coywolves as a whole are likely to stabilize—or even decrease—their own numbers without the aid of hunting and trapping measures. The typical pack size falls between 3 and 5 members, consisting of the breeding pair and their offspring [5]. It is common for people to overestimate the size of a pack; when howling, changes in intonation, pitch, and volume can easily make a pack of 3 sound like a pack of 10 [5].

Identity Crisis: Forever War Edition

Of course no one is truly surprised at the collapse of authority in Afghanistan, as the fall of Herat today caps off a 2+ week push by the Taliban that marks their control of about a third of the country at this point (EDIT: Whelp Kabul fell like 2 days later, makes all this particularly apt). The speed of the advance shows exactly how little US forces were doing in the country, not how much - this was a timed advance, waiting for the inevitable US withdraw, and their capacity to maintain strength during that wait shows how ineffective military operations over the past decade have been.

But of course how much strength is needed for such a push is open to debate - reports show towns “falling” to groups of only ten soldiers, and the fall of Herat seems to have begun with government police leaving the city before the attack and the Taliban taking the police station unopposed. For anyone who has been around for this whole sorry affair, it can’t help but bring up memories of the fall of the Taliban 20 years ago: 

(Northern Alliance fighter) Khan captured his first city, Taloqan, without firing a single shot. He did it by persuading the local Taliban leader, a man named Abdullah Gard, to switch sides. Gard was no dummy; he could see the B-52s. I guessed that Khan had probably used a lot of money, but he never allowed me to sit in as he worked the Taliban chieftains on the radio. The day after Taloqan fell, I found Gard in an abandoned house, seated on a blue cushion on the floor, warming himself next to a wood-burning stove. His black Taliban turban was gone, and he had replaced it with a woolen Chitrali cap just like that of Ahmad Shah Massoud. “All along, I was spying on the Taliban,” Gard said, his eyes darting. No one believed him, but no one seemed to care.

(from The Forever War, if you care) Foreigners like Americans and Al-Qaeda care about “the cause” but for the local Afghans like the Taliban its a game of survival, and dying just means losing; when a new wind blows no reason not to bend in its direction.

I don’t want to get into the Afghan side of things too much though, but instead of the interaction of this reality and the US’s operational understanding of its war and aims. America’s adventures in Iraq & Afghanistan have been ruinously expensive, but not in the ways commonly understood. At the peak of “nation building” the US was spending over $100 billion in Afghanistan, but the basic military expenditures in FY2020 amounted to only $17 billion - and there are a lot of luxury items on there still. You will often here statements like “the US can’t afford to be in Afghanistan forever” but at $17 billion they absolutely could. Oh they shouldn’t, they shouldn’t have invaded Afghanistan to begin with, but on terms of practicality its affordable. The idea of a Forever War makes no sense when you are Vietnam-style drafting entire age-cohorts to get shot at in a jungle, but to station a few thousands guy and an air base overseas? Its so doable we even had a word for it: Empire

Which gets at the crux of America’s failure - its steadfast refusal to *be* an Empire, at least self-described (yes yes A.G. Hopkins & co., I hear your howls of rage). If you tell a group of self-interested warlords you are hear to stay, this is going to be a client state and you have the guns to Make It So, so its join up or get blown up, that can...actually work, for a time at least. Its exactly how the British played India - perpetually vastly outnumbered by actual armed Indian troops in the country, but with the locus of power centered on them and local stakeholders in their pocket who were better off with the British than without. If you want to build a lasting regime aligned with your national interest, you need to commit. The British Civil Service in India during the height of the Empire had a minimum service term of 25 years, and about 20,000 British citizens lived more-or-less permanently in the country supporting this mission - that is a wind that keeps on blowing.

Meanwhile the average commander of US operations in Afghanistan over the past decade has served in the post for about 2 years; Americans do deployments, rotate out, live in bases, then leave. We have far more people per capita than the British ever had in Afghanistan, have spent ludicrous sums on development, and yet our actual presence is a ghost - why would any local stakeholder buy into our mission? Why would you pick “our side”? Instead you wait the US out - they are duty-bound to leave.

Thus the contradiction - the US goal was to nation-build. But nations are *built* from stakeholders, people with vested interests in the outcome. The US vision of the future of Afghanistan had no stakeholders, including the US! There was just an unwillingness to admit that this mission was an “Empire” mission, and required the tools of Empire, which as a matter of identity the US is completely unwilling to use, its not “who we are”. 

Which is why it should never have taken on the mission at all, of course.
