That catches her attention. “How about we do something that doesn’t require thinking? Do you want to go get drinks?” Jadzia perks up, not having partied or doing anything particularly festive in a while. She’s hoping her pitch will work, finding it relaxing for herself.

“We can sit around and people watch, chat a bit about unserious things. Something to keep your mind off of work!”

Well, at least he felt confident enough to say his work was good.

It was a start, if a little stiff. But who was she to judge someone’s answering ability? She was sure others had considered her too stiff before, or too playful in other times. Jadzia simply waves off the concern, not bothered in the slightest about the question. It seemed like an important one to Nero, after all. Instead, a smile grows across their face, finding him to be amusing.

“They’re just not used to you,” they pointedly shake their head, “but they’ll eventually warm up, and I think you’ll find yourself fitting in nicely. I think they’re misunderstanding your tone, but I also think you’ll grow into yourself. Give it some time.” She gives a casual pat to his shoulder, trying to come off as comforting. “I hope it’s not rude to ask, but… do you remember how long ago it was that you were augmented?”

With his statement about moisturizing, she can’t help but let out a giggle. It was humorous to her, him coming to that conclusion. Either way, she believed he’d come to be respected eventually, even if she had to start off being the one to do it. It wasn’t a problem in the first place, anyways, as she liked the guy. He was interesting! Cocking their head, they earnestly look at him.

“Anyone ever tell you that you’re funny?”

"Adequately. I perform my tasks to an acceptable level."

Nero had his hands behind his back, before thinking to offer a thumbs up in order to better convey himself. The lab-grown 'template' still found wisdom in Jadzia's words, even if it was just in the moment. It wasn't so much a mentor the synth sought, as much as a desire to better understand his fellow crew and officers for as long as he was assigned to DS9. Nero himself was somewhere between engineering and security when extra hands were needed.

"Thank you, Lieutenant-Commander. The question must seem abrupt: Earlier I was questioned in regards to my own opinions. Although I answered clearly, those I addressed said I had no 'skin in the game' and my answers lacked 'commitment' and 'moxie' I believe. Confusing..."

For a moment, Nero slowly raised a hand, waving it around to observe how the light bounced off the back and palm each. To think, his flesh was artificial. Stimulated by radiation to mutate from pools of randomized traits into a wholly 'original' lifeform-- no origins to really connect with, made them popular inhabitants closer to the Ferengi Trade Alliance. And his skeleton augmented with bionics when he was still doing industrial work between studying to enter Starfleet Academy. Sort of like another type of cyborg, or android.

"Perhaps I do need to try to moisturize more frequently. Hm."

Jadzia can’t help but smile, grateful it wasn’t too serious an injury. “I’ll be more careful next time. You expect me to make a full recovery?” She’s joking, knowing she’ll be just fine. They just wanted to clear the air of any seriousness. It wasn’t that she was reckless, but she didn’t want anyone to worry over her too much.

“I guess I won’t do too much with my hand for a little while,” she murmurs, looking down at the redness upon her skin. “It doesn’t hurt too bad, but I thought it smart to get it looked at anyways. Never know what’ll happen, right?”

“You’re right,” Jadzia admits, staring down at her now slightly burned uniform top. She runs her hands over the singed fabric with a sigh. She could easily find a replacement, thankfully, but she was a bit shaken up by the possibility that it could’ve been worse. Even then, she gives a short chuckle, trying to lighten the situation and calm her nerves.

“At least I didn’t lose any hair! Now that would’ve been a problem. Are you alright, though?”
