If a tv show is affecting a weak individual they should not watch said tv show. Just like when a black person robs you we don't go exterminate blacks, you protect yourself or stay away from them.

Don’t agree.  Its not like we’re literally killing someone.  Its also not something that had the proper warnings before it aired.  A lot of films and tv shows depict suicide and I know a lot of people who, even though they’ve been suicidal or suffer from depression, are able to handle it.  Netflix isn’t supervised like regular cable television.  Its harder to keep kids from watching shows that aren’t for them on Netflix.  Parents don’t always know that.  Kids hear about the show and want to be able to find characters they connect too not knowing what they’re going into.  I said in my post you can say well they just shouldn’t watch it.  But thats not realistic and we know that.

I didn’t mind the show.  It didn’t really effect me.  I’ve suffered from depression for years but luckily for me I have a great support system and I’m on a good combination of medication.  If this show is negatively effecting people, and it is, then it should be taken down.  Its not just effecting young kids.  Its effecting people in their 20′s and 30′s.  People who thought they could handle it.  People who thought they were in a good place.  This show is not worth more than their lives and their well being.  I understand that people will say Well maybe they shouldn’t watch it.  But people are desperate to connect to something that they go through.  Many people thought this would be that.  But this would never be allowed on a cable network.  People often think they can handle more than they can.  And we live in such a world now where saying you were “triggered” by something is opening yourself up to being mocked.  I love Netflix and Hulu but perhaps this should never have been made.

So my boyfriend’s school district had to put out a statement about 13 reasons why because there has been a significant increase in students cutting themselves and attempting suicide because of that show. Like when you talk to them about it, they specifically reference that show. Students are telling each other that they’ll be “one of the reasons.” School counselors a have been booked solid for weeks. So what can we do to get Netflix to take down this shitty shitty show.
