🇺🇸🇺🇸 I turn 11 tomorrow?? Yep! On the Fourth of July each year, my mom and I celebrate the day we declared independence from the tyranny of evil and lies and received a fresh start through Jesus Christ. We joke that it's our new birthday. 😆 This year, my dad won't be with us in person to celebrate the birth of the United States. On the 7th, it'll be 10 months since he passed away. He didn't even get to see the fireworks last year because he was stuck in bed. :( I hold the memories even dearer now, of watching fireworks from our driveway while eating popcorn with him, my mom, my brother, and my grandmother. Every year we lit sparklers, and went through every single one. We sat and watched and simply shared the time. How precious time is. 11 years ago, when I said "I do" to Jesus, it was my dad who baptized me. For the first time, being underwater didn't scare me. I didn't even feel the pressure of being cut off, for a moment, from oxygen. I was swallowed, whole. He lifted me back up, and I pumped my fists in the air in victory. Nothing can take that victory away. And I'm forever grateful. Thank you, Jesus. Thank you, Dad. 90% of my dreams are almost always action/adventure and involve chase scenes, both real and fictional allies, and me doing something brave I probably would never do in real life. (Maybe God's telling me I could if I had to?) The other 10% of dreams are just... weird. Like ceiling fans made of sand on the floor that I have to jump over while talking excitedly about peas weird. Have you ever fought your own protagonist? Yeah. It's a thing. Haruka, despite being the namesake and main character of #missingharuka, has been a challenge. It's been ridiculously hard to pin down her motives, her personality, and even her backstory. Worse, I'd want to write her acting one way, but then she'd go and act totally differently! So figuring out all of that is important. Especially if I want anyone at all to care what happens to her. I've been going through a course on novel writing and the instructor keeps hammering the "whys" and the "wants" of the main character. Beyond the obvious "Haruka wants to escape," I had nothing. It wasn't moving enough. So the other day, I sat down to deal with it and I asked God to help because I have no clue what I'm doing. And then things started to click. I FIGURED IT OUT. 🙌 (I'll tell you about it on Patreon!)

#DTIYS Every month on Patreon, we have a community event/challenge!
